- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And it's Yvonne, too.
- 0:15It's Friday, it's the 10th of April, and hello and welcome to
- 0:19the microphone. Oh, thanks so much.
- 0:21Great to be back. Yeah, you, you kind of got
- 0:24dissed over the Easter break. Sorry about that.
- 0:27That's OK. It was for a very important
- 0:29reason. Oh.
- 0:30Yeah, Good Friday kind of trumps everything, doesn't.
- 0:32It absolutely. But we're back, and we are
- 0:35reading Proverbs again, and today we're going to be
- 0:38finishing off Proverbs 22. There are some long proverbs
- 0:43here. There are a few, but we are now
- 0:45into the sayings of the wise. So this is like a specific
- 0:50section of the Proverbs. It sure is.
- 0:54And so we are going to read them over these two verses, but
- 0:57rather than you do the first half and I do the second half,
- 1:01we will just each read the two verse proverb.
- 1:04That sounds very complicated. It does, but if you're following
- 1:06along in your Bible, it will make sense.
- 1:08Absolutely. All right, Well, shall we dive
- 1:10in? Absolutely.
- 1:12All right, let's do it. Let's read Proverbs 22, verses
- 1:1622 to 29. Don't rob the poor just because
- 1:30you can, or exploit the needy in court, for the Lord is their
- 1:34defender. He will ruin anyone who ruins
- 1:38them. Don't befriend angry people or
- 1:43associate with hot tempered people or you will learn to be
- 1:47like them and endanger your soul.
- 1:52Don't agree to guarantee another person's debt or put up security
- 1:56for someone else. If you can't pay it, even your
- 2:00bed will be snatched from under you.
- 2:04Don't cheat your neighbour by moving the ancient boundary
- 2:08markers set up by previous generations.
- 2:13Do you see any truly competent workers?
- 2:16They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary
- 2:20people. And again.
- 2:26Don't rob the poor just because you can, or exploit the needy in
- 2:30court, for the Lord is their defender.
- 2:34He will ruin anyone who ruins them.
- 2:38Don't befriend angry people or associated with hot tempered
- 2:42people or you will learn to be like them and endanger your
- 2:46soul. Don't agree to guarantee another
- 2:51person's debt or put up security for someone else.
- 2:55If you can't pay it, even your bed will be snatched from under
- 2:59you. Don't cheat your neighbour by
- 3:03moving the ancient boundary markers set up by previous
- 3:06generations. Do you see any truly competent
- 3:13workers? They will serve kings rather
- 3:16than working for ordinary people.
- 3:28I really liked those beginning verses where it says don't rob
- 3:33the poor just because you can. It's we can all take advantage
- 3:38of people, but that's not what we're meant to do and it's just
- 3:41for the Lord is their defender. Just I love it.
- 3:45That's beautiful and I really appreciate how it talks about
- 3:49not cheating your neighbours by moving those ancient boundary
- 3:53markers that are set up by previous generations.
- 3:56It's like don't forsake the the wisdom that's passed down to us
- 4:01or or turn it against people. I also really felt in that verse
- 4:1024 and 25 when it's talking about associating with hot
- 4:14tempered people, but it just warning us to make sure that we
- 4:18don't become like them. I don't think it's calling us
- 4:22not to be in the world, but just be aware that we need to also
- 4:25make sure that our shaping and our biggest influence is Christ.
- 4:31Like is godly. Yeah, to keep that balance.
- 4:35Yeah. And be aware that we are shaped
- 4:37by what happens around us. Yeah.
- 4:40Oh, thank you for your wisdom so much.
- 4:43Thank You that you are the defender of the needy and the
- 4:47vulnerable, that you don't leave us in our most vulnerable state
- 4:52to our own devices or to fend for ourself.
- 4:54But you are our defender when we are weakest.
- 4:59And that Lord, you want us to be shaped by you and your
- 5:02character. Even though we live in this
- 5:05world surrounded by sin and challenge.
- 5:08You want us to be your light, shaped by your Son.
- 5:14So Lord, I pray that you shape us, that you lead us into these
- 5:18places where we can uplift the vulnerable, that we can speak
- 5:23your truth and that we can share your love with the world that so
- 5:27desperately needs it. We love you and we thank you
- 5:30that you first loved us in Jesus name, Amen.
