- 0:01Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Well, thanks for those who listen to
- 0:07my Saint Patrick's Day, Saint Joseph's comparisons and Synchronicity, if you will,
- 0:13and I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoy the Lace edition
- 0:18of Mario Galucci's Mister Acquitto. What happens when your client makes a boneheaded move
- 0:24within his case while trying to become acquitted and has Mario himself as the criminal
- 0:30defense attorney to overcome that. We talked about it in episode three of Mister
- 0:35Acquitto, which you could find in the description below. Now it is March
- 0:41twentieth, so a little bit of today's going to focus on the fact that
- 0:46we are another month away from January twenty twenty twenty five. We are,
- 0:54what is it now like eight nine months away from January twenty twenty twenty five.
- 1:00So we're gonna go into the road to two seventy, if you will,
- 1:04and how the electoral college has changed from twenty twenty. We'll get into
- 1:10that with Lisa dayser Dan's article in a moment, But yesterday I mentioned I
- 1:14wanted to play this audio from the Hoytchemmer Horn subway shooting in which an EDP
- 1:19pulled out a gun on an instant bysenter who was just being money his own
- 1:26business and being harassed by said EDP, and then in self defense, the
- 1:33guy took the gun and shot him. And I think he made the subway
- 1:38safer because of it. And he's not been charged by the way. But
- 1:42during this standoff and altercation, if you will, here's what one stapanger said
- 1:48in that adrianer Hoychjremmer Hoard's great question. And you know what's interesting is are
- 1:57we starting to see the city want more cops on the streets? I mean,
- 2:01when you hear a comment like that, don't you think it reflects everybody
- 2:06who's seeing some of the subway shottings that have gone on, this shooting in
- 2:14Brooklyn, some of the other even you know, midday stabbings and other horrors
- 2:21that the city does endure. And while I still believe we can be and
- 2:32we typically are the safest city in the world, these crimes start to add
- 2:38up. But I do want to tell you what the NYPT is saying.
- 2:42And we've had Kat's Daughtry on the radio before with Arthur Right Dalla. Here's
- 2:46what he said about that shooting. We all heard about what happened yesterday.
- 2:53Well nobody's talking about the millions and thousands of people that got to their destination
- 2:57safety. And I agree with that, And maybe a younger me would be
- 3:02like, well, what do you mean, why are just cutting this?
- 3:05But having worked with you know, Chief Kemper, and having even seen Blue
- 3:09Bloods, it all culmulates to that this is a tough job for the NYPD.
- 3:15I think we can all agree with that. And it's it's more unbelievable
- 3:22it's happened the week that the National Guard was deployed, though this was the
- 3:25whole point was to prevent such trauma in the subway, such as shooting in
- 3:30the subway. I I just think it shows New York. Anything happens on
- 3:38a dime. But the more people feel like they can carry even without a
- 3:44license and a permit, the more we're gonna have situations like we had last
- 3:49week. Thank God, a good Samaritan took it into his hand in the
- 3:53hands and got rid of the DP that was causing trouble. I'd say it
- 3:59so aggressively, but that's what I feel in self defense. But watching Blue
- 4:06Bloods having this scene happen in real life. Also, it does keep and
- 4:13in perspective how we shouldn't be blasting our headsets in the subways, How we
- 4:17shouldn't be on our cell phones all the time in the subways. Even sleeping
- 4:23could be a risk on the subway. Now do I still do all those
- 4:26things sometimes? But I'm working on it. I'm working on it. But
- 4:30when you say, hey, where's the NYPD, doesn't that make you feel
- 4:34like on a larger perspective with twenty twenty four year On March twenty, twenty
- 4:42twenty four, when President Trump touted He's gonna have a better play in New
- 4:46York because of situations like this, because of questions like that. Don'tly want
- 4:51someone who's going to stand behind law enforcement and what they do in the Oval
- 4:57office? I think that's what we're seeing in that question. In that question,
- 5:11I mean, it's quite an amazing statement because the four years ago,
- 5:15how many people wanted to defund the police, and some still do. But
- 5:18luckily the rhetorics died down because we're seeing how heroic cops are being in our
- 5:27city. I mean, the other day in Brooklyn, mid daylight or mid
- 5:30evening, the guy was targeting a Brooklyn couple and then if you didn't shot
- 5:36him down. And for those who want to read the headlines, I would
- 5:42encourage you to see Blue Bloods because you'll understand the rationale. You'll understand the
- 5:47day to day experiences of these cops better than the newspapers will tell you.
- 5:55To be very honest, To be very honest and listen, are there Ideala?
- 6:01You know he has Chief of Patrol, John Shelley has a chief Kemper
- 6:05sometimes mayor Adams. I mean he gets the pulse of the city. But
- 6:13I digress. I think that question of law enforcement in our subways, where
- 6:18are they clinging to them? Is the general sense of where we're at right
- 6:26now. Who will keep us safe? And if it's going to be each
- 6:34other, the innocent bystander who gets an altercation because the EDP is egging him
- 6:41on harassing him, then we need more of those heroes as well, and
- 6:46we can't prosecute them while a Cello Basher goes free. Alvin Bragg, how
- 6:54is it possible that Daniel Penny is still being prosecuted? Once prosecuted, but
- 7:00you let it chell us out and the judge let the cellis basher out doesn't
- 7:08make sense. So yes, I think whoever swears on the Bible January twenty
- 7:18twenty five, on the road to two seventy, this question here in New
- 7:25York is going to be a big one when it comes to the presidential election.
- 7:30Now, I want to get to Lisa days our Dan. She wrote
- 7:33this article in previous News hour, why just nine states may win the election,
- 7:41may decide the election. Lisa days our Dana correspond for O PBS Rights
- 7:47that the census reallocated the twenty twenty sentence congressional seats and electoral votes based on
- 8:01population shifts. Turns out Biden had won California, Illinois, Michigan, New
- 8:09York, and Pennsylvania. But each of these states, New York lost an
- 8:15electoral vote due to population shift because they're all moving to Florida. Isn't that
- 8:22insane that we've lost a vote in the election because of policies in this state
- 8:28which have caused people to move out, so we lose an electoral vote.
- 8:33It's all connected here. It's all connected. When you have high taxes,
- 8:39you couldn't really recover from the pandemic as you could have five hundred and forty
- 8:45six thousands people have moved out of New York since the pandemic, and because
- 8:48of that shift, we lost a vote in our elections, while Colorado and
- 8:56Oregon gained. This math, according to Lisa desert Day, breaks down that
- 9:05Democrats start down three electoral votes compared with twenty twenty. Based on these new
- 9:13districts, the twenty twenty electoral college, according to Washington Post, would be
- 9:18Biden three h three Trump to thirty five. That means, according to Lisa
- 9:26des are a Day in the Washington Post and the new calculations, Trump would
- 9:30need to gain thirty five votes to earn the two seventy to uh win the
- 9:35White House. Thirty five votes on the table. Can they come from New
- 9:41York? Will they come from New York and even Pennsylvania where Philadelphia is not
- 9:48all uh sunny? If you will. I'm not saying either way who you
- 9:56should vote for. I'm just telling you the facts of where we're at right
- 10:00now and maybe speculating a little bit these er Dain goes on, seventy two
- 10:09electoral votes are at stake. Seventy two in what they're calling the Squeaker States,
- 10:18five states forming the core battleground which are no longer you know, the
- 10:22Michigans and the and the Pennsylvanias and the uh Florida's even Here are the battlegrounds
- 10:31that Lisa Dayserdan says are at stake. Arizona eleven electoral votes, Georgia,
- 10:39oh Georgia sixteen electoral votes, North Carolina sixteen electoral votes, Pennsylvania typical battleground
- 10:48nineteen electoral votes, and Wisconsin ten electoral votes. Those are the seventy two
- 10:56Arizona eleven, Georgia sixteen, North Carolina sixteen, Pennsylvania nineteen, Wisconsin ten.
- 11:03She then breaks down the next tier of potentially persuadable states in which in
- 11:11twenty twenty three and six percentage points made the difference last year last time around.
- 11:20These days, I'm about to talk about make up for ninety one electoral
- 11:24votes ready for him, Florida thirty fifteen electoral votes for Michigan, Nevada six
- 11:35electoral votes, and Texas forty electoral votes. That's always one of the biggest
- 11:43states because it is the biggest state in the Union. She's predicting that of
- 11:48the core four battleground states lost in twenty twenty, Trump would need to flip
- 11:54at least two and possibly three of them in the Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania,
- 12:00Wisconsin category to win in Donald Trump's favor. Biden's winning margins were smaller
- 12:13in twenty twenty than Trump's were on average. Trump has more states he must
- 12:18win, but he may have less work than Biden. But you know,
- 12:22Trump's gonna go all over the place in twenty twenty four, I mean,
- 12:26you know, and Biden, I guess walked off the stage. Look whoever
- 12:31touches the Bible and swears himself swears in with Justin Stroberts January twenty twenty five.
- 12:39No one said this Roads to seventy was gonna be easy. No one
- 12:43said this Roads to seventy was gonna be fun. Typically maybe for the media,
- 12:50but these candidates, and if Biden's stamina could keep up, he's gonna
- 12:54have to keep up with Trump. Then it goes beyond that. The road
- 13:03to two seventy, the road to Januaruary twenty twenty five, twenty twenty twenty
- 13:09five, will get messy. There will be trials that might influence all of
- 13:16this. There's right now less than a week to secure a half billion dollar
- 13:24bond before Trump's buildings are seized. So there's a lot going on in the
- 13:28moment right now. Biden's competence, Biden's age, Biden's you know why,
- 13:33it keeps wandering off, and then Trump's legal woes that still might might sway.
- 13:41Where we are at July around the convention time, I think the Democrats
- 13:50are waiting for a moment. This is opining here for Biden to really slip
- 13:58up, and then they pull the twenty fifth Amendment while they hope the trials
- 14:07are in their favor against Trump and legislation that they're trying to put through.
- 14:18They're trying to put through to take him off the ballot for real, that's
- 14:24not legislations and Senate in Congress's position, they should let the voter decide the
- 14:33roads to seventy. But there you haven't the electoral college breakdown. I'm gonna
- 14:37put it all in the uh in the description below, but thirty five major
- 14:50delegates needed for Trump and listen back for the electoral vote breakdown per state.
- 14:58I love the way list these are day and did this why just nine states
- 15:01may win? You may decide the twenty twenty four election. Read it inform
- 15:09yourself that way, on election night you might be able to be a little
- 15:15bit nerdy with your friends. Ho did you know how many votes he needs
- 15:18here? Needs here, as the totals come in, as italies come in
- 15:24on election night twenty twenty four. But where we are in March, nothing,
- 15:35nothing feels as locked in as the media says. That's where we are
- 15:41at on the road to two seventy
