A high-speed chase in Placer County ended tragically Friday night when a driver fleeing deputies in a Chevy Tahoe crashed into a field at nearly 90 mph, dying at the scene after medics arrived. The brief pursuit, triggered by excessive speed near Gladding and Riosa roads, concluded when the vehicle veered off-road — later spotted by helicopter — and the driver was pronounced dead before help could be fully administered.
