- 2:52brace for a 13 % property tax jump on single
- 2:56-family homes, as Mayor Wu contends with sliding
- 2:59commercial real estate values. It is the second
- 3:03year in a row that Bostonians face a double -digit
- 3:06residential tax increase, as commercial property
- 3:09values dropped 6 % and residential values rose
- 3:132%. This means the tax burden shifts from businesses
- 3:18to homeowners. Average single -family homes will
- 3:21see a $780 annual increase, according to Wu.
- 3:27The city is still determining how much multifamily
- 3:30home taxes will rise. Commercial properties will
- 3:34see a 4 .4 % decrease, saving typical office
- 3:37buildings $210 ,000. Now on to sports. The early
- 3:49signing period for college football kicked off
- 3:52yesterday as teams build their 20 -26 rosters
- 3:55and prepare for conference title games and the
- 3:58college football playoff. Despite predictions
- 4:01that name, image, and likeness compensation would
- 4:05consolidate talent, nearly 20 schools have signed
- 4:08or received commitments from five -star recruits
- 4:11this year. Programs like Notre Dame, Alabama,
- 4:15and Oregon are tied for the most five -star players,
- 4:19while Vanderbilt flipped top -ranked quarterback
- 4:21Jared Curtis from Georgia. USC holds the nation's
- 4:26top recruiting class with 31 signatures, while
- 4:29the Big Ten struggles with quarterback recruiting,
- 4:32securing only one top -ten prospect. North Carolina,
- 4:37led by Bill Belichick, signed 39 players, ranking
- 4:4117th nationally. The Celtics have listed Jalen
- 4:47Brown as doubtful for tonight's matchup against
- 4:50the Wizards due to a non -COVID illness. Brown
- 4:54has participated in all 21 of the Celtics games
- 4:57this season, scoring a season -high 42 points
- 5:00against the Knicks on Tuesday night. If he misses
- 5:04the Washington game, it will mark the first time
- 5:07these young Celtics play without Brown this season.
- 5:12Baylor Shireman and Hugo Gonzalez have been competing
- 5:16for minutes on the wings, providing an opportunity
- 5:19for extended evaluation. After losing their first
- 5:23three games, the Celtics have won seven of their
- 5:25last nine games. Boston faces a quick turnaround,
- 5:29traveling to Washington before hosting the rival
- 5:32Lakers on Friday night at TD Garden. Tonight,
- 5:36tip -off is at seven. In top news, Anthropic
- 5:42Chief Executive Officer Dario Amade stated that
- 5:46as artificial intelligence technology transforms
- 5:49the economy, the government will need to step
- 5:52in and retrain the workforce. He emphasized that
- 5:56while some business leaders downplay the job
- 5:58loss risks, it is crucial to expect such changes
- 6:02and for the government to facilitate the transition.
- 6:06Amade remarked, I do not see retraining programs
- 6:09as a panacea. but I think we are going to need
- 6:12some form of that." He also expressed concern
- 6:15that some view this technology as similar to
- 6:18past revolutions, asserting that those familiar
- 6:21with AI do not share that perspective. He warned
- 6:25that in the next five years, half of all entry
- 6:28-level jobs could vanish, pushing unemployment
- 6:30rates to between 10 % and 20%. In business news,
- 6:37New Yorkers are now seeing warnings about stores
- 6:40using personal data to set online prices, thanks
- 6:44to new consumer protection legislation that took
- 6:47effect in early November. This law, already subject
- 6:51to lawsuits, requires companies to disclose when
- 6:54they use surveillance pricing, potentially raising
- 6:57costs for some while lowering them for others.
- 7:00During Black Friday sales, shoppers notice messages
- 7:03stating, This price was set by an algorithm using
- 7:07your personal data. Surveillance pricing remains
- 7:11legal, enforcing transparency rather than banning
- 7:14the practice. Other states are also considering
- 7:17similar legislation, though pushback from industries
- 7:21remains strong. The implications of personal
- 7:24data usage for pricing raise significant privacy
- 7:27concerns. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is unchanged.
- 7:32at about $94 ,000. Ethereum is up 4 % to just
- 7:39over $3 ,200. And XRP is down 1 % to $2 .19.

- 8:32back to the show. Let's talk science. Earth's
- 8:37hidden eighth continent is no longer lost. Researchers
- 8:41have finally mapped Zealandia, a landmass predominantly
- 8:45submerged under the sea. This underwater region
- 8:49spans nearly 2 million square miles. Using rock
- 8:54samples from the seabed, scientists analyzed
- 8:56North Zealandia's geology, completing the mapping
- 8:59process. The research, led by Nick Mortimer,
- 9:03revealed geological formations dating back up
- 9:06to 130 million years. While most of Zealandia
- 9:11is uninhabitable, its status as a potential eighth
- 9:15continent is now recognized. This groundbreaking
- 9:19study changes our understanding of Zealandia's
- 9:22geological history and its connection to the
- 9:25ancient supercontinent, Gondwana. And in entertainment
- 9:32news, Boston Blue and Sheriff Country have been
- 9:36renewed for second seasons on CBS. These dramas
- 9:40are the top two first year network shows of the
- 9:43season so far. CBS has placed its first two renewal
- 9:48orders for the 2026 to 27 season. Both series
- 9:52are spinoffs of other CBS shows, Blue Bloods
- 9:56and Fire Country. According to Nielsen's ratings,
- 10:00Boston Blue averages 8 million cross -platform
- 10:03viewers, while Sheriff Country has 7 .6 million.
- 10:08CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach stated,
- 10:12These early renewals reflect the power of character
- 10:15-driven storytelling and compelling narratives.
- 10:19Both shows have quickly embraced audiences across
- 10:22broadcast and streaming. Well, all righty, folks.
