- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: with current, bubbling hand.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, a sub, good to see you guys.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_03]: Popcorn's very buttery.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Bubba, Bubba, we've got to get your camera fixed.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think your kid like ran out of the lens on your iPad here.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got to get your camera fixed and get your back on space.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's because the popcorn is stuck to his hairy chest.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: I was listening to that episode on a drive that I had.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I was just picturing that, and I mean,
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: It had me laughing actually, I mean laughing you got me yeah, be good guys.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's actually I'm actually have a Brazilian wax chest if you can imagine Brazilian wax that babies like it's like a baby's bottom on my chest.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: You could eat your lunch today off of it current did they do the whole body Just the ass crack in me Yeah, you boys I cannot I would just sitting on is just laying on his back with his legs up in the air
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is straight but to the blacksmiths.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is too much for my cup of coffee this morning.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think for our listeners as well Do not do not get us put on hide as far Cancel us.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we don't need cancellation from YouTube here.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well boys.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: It is always good to be with you guys and
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've got just some good catch-up here.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a minute since we've all three been on.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: And Jekyll and schedule is in all the details and we're still in summertime, but Bubba, go ahead and leave off a little bit.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: What's your last week been like?
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: And in our house, I'll square away and then Colonel Fincher.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, kind of more of the same for me, week two of school for the kids, kind of nice getting that routine.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know, football is rolling down here in Georgia.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_03]: Game one was completed.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_03]: And so now we're on the game two tonight.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: So stay in busy with that.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_03]: Catching the kids in football.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_03]: My son did play in the Georgia all state game.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_03]: This last weekend at 12 of you.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of put the wrap on our baseball season.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: Kids gets kind of put the bats down now.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it gloves down here for kind of a fall.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: We are gonna take the fall off for the first time ever.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: as a family and baseball we always play fall baseball we are going to take that time off this fall and
- 2:57[SPEAKER_03]: really just go and enjoy our fall on our winter as kind of like the last summer that I feel like my 13 year oldie just turned 13 and still strange to say, I feel like it's the last summer him being a kid.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_03]: So really going to try our last fall and winter as well.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to try to really just take that in, especially with him talking to you this last week with
- 3:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I just started to hold on to time and spend that time with them, but that's really the main thing.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: I know we talked about last week, you got into talking, you know, I don't know that it was the plan, but we got into talking about anxiety and stuff and I've had multiple people reach out about that episode that they enjoyed that and they related to it.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, I think any time we can do that on the show, you know, what have told some people like anything, we can impact one person like that is the goal.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_03]: you know, for helping any person with that situation and being vulnerable times, but I think again for me, that's the that's where my life is right now.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to take things off the play every single week and I feel I don't know if you'll ever feel this way.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_03]: No matter what, whenever I take things off the play, it's like 15 more things want to get put on it.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm just juggling right now, trying to get things off the plate and I'm hoping to
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: word is funny.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: I always like laugh when I'm recording this podcast because I do not feel like the old man on the pod.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I am, you know what I mean?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like I have the oldest kid on the oldest person.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of look at like our tiered level of life like, you know,
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: My boys are 16 and 14 and then Bubba, you know, your oldest is like in that 13 and then current your oldest is how I won't hold on nine 9 this like we got this tiered kind of thing and I had this weird perspective is like the older guy like, oh I remember what that season was like.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I remember what that season was like, you know, and it's hard because sometimes you get in your own rhythm and you're like, you know You forget, you know, those the oldest of us
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is, this guy.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_03]: Ham, can we get, can this episode go that or what is it like life after 60?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_03]: Can you tell us what it's like?
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's a nice to get like discounted due to the early blue plate special right at the restaurant You know you get 10% off the buffet No fault and pepper in the beer, you know, but no, it's it's funny.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be 45 in December and It's wild like halfway to 90, you know, here's here's the question.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: Have you had a call and ask me yet
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: I have not, nor do I think I'm, I don't know, we've never gotten into that on this show, but you know, when it comes to traditional medical perspectives, I would say that ham bone is probably a little bit off the reservations.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: Let's all do get them at the same time.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on with joint colonoscopy?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, at the same time.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that the CEO's going to go do a podcast that day before while we're all
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: I love your break.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love where it goes.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: It is just fascinating to me.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: But no, it's been interesting.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like we just got back from a few days away in the mountains and, you know, same thing.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Man, just recognized me.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: The kids are growing up and it happens so fast and just embracing those moments, timled my family, you know, my mom and dad or in their early 70s and just spending time with them has been so great.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: We did, we did that up in Banner, Elk North Carolina and just loved it, you know, the weather was,
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic, a lot less humidity in down here at the coast and did rate a ramp up sophomore year for Matthew, the twins are heading in our freshman year high schools.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've got three high schoolers starting to cheer.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so yet that whole season is kind of shifting, but above to your point, one of the things has been going on in cards lately is the twins who are 14 going to be 15 this fall.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: They've been wanting to get into cards.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: And their idea of getting into cards is running what not shows and buying on what not to have inventory for those shows.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the most stressful thing in the world for me.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: At, you know, me, I like to manage everything.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: I like to know what we bought.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: I like to have it in hand.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like to spread sheet it or whatever.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: And like literally this morning, I woke up.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting ready for the podcast.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I get three notifications that they bought into like a top-scrown basketball break for like $8 for a spot.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I got VJ Edskum.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if I hit a red white and blue, it's worth $30.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I paid eight for the spot.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, stop it now, that's your nightmare.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: Please stop it now.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: But to the point is, it adds so much like, there's something to be said for me about staying in your lane.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I've always been somebody who's done a lot of different things, and quite frankly, done a lot of different things well.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm also this pressure here over the last little bit of like having too much there.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: And part of that for me is just understanding what my capacity is and, you know, over the past, like this summer I have realized that I'm kind of at capacity, you know, like with the card business stuff, with doing the pod, you know, with running the agency, with being a dad, with doing the nonprofit work, like I'm at capacity.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: And so trying not to put anything else on my plate, it's like a little little matters that I dab on about this card and I'm like, no, he's like, why not?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, because I just don't want to.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, it's free money.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't care if they're putting money on the tree out front.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't even want to walk outside and pull it off the tree.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I need to just breathe and just chill.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm in that mode right now.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: which is not the best version of myself quite honestly but it is honestly where I am and so I am excited to have the kids back in school so that I feel like I can get into a rhythm and take a deep breath and kind of hit reset on you know where I want to go because I'm very also to like vision driven and so I have to know where I'm going
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: But what direction I want to head in is if I don't have that, I just kind of like stay busy and flounder.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so I want to have like a specific target to kind of aim toward, and you know, I'm really looking forward to getting into a rhythm so I could do that.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, that's where that is.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Card front was, we've had some massive personal sales, just some PC inventory that we had held for a while that turned around like a Michael Jordan, you know, card, we made like 10 grand on that.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of that comes to a little mat like seeing the market a year ago and grabbing a Michael Jordan scoring Kings.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's just gone ballistic, but we felt like it was time to kind of move into some different stuff.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, if I had a really big month on a personal side, on our business side,
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: really trying to figure out that strategic next step.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: We had some nice options that ended last week.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: We've got some other cards that are kind of coming in.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: We've got some solid inventory right now, but it's just about being strategic about when to liquidate it.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because some of the stuff when we get into lower population, you know, talk about reds and blues or suddenly reds and, you know, supers in the bone in the world, talk about inserts and stuff in the, you know, 90s world.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be strategic because sometimes
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: You throw it out there and it goes great, but if you're not smart about it, you can get blistered on it.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: So that's kind of the assessment from Hamhouse.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Garnie.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go to colonoscopy.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: That kind of won't want to know.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: You're feeding for one?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm feeding for colonoscopy.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm on my front.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm where you guys start school a lot earlier than we do out here in New York.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: We could start school after Labor Day.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: So we're still out in Southampton until then.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: So we could kind of feel the summer coming to an end.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: But I've been working from home and I've been working on a lot of stuff, obviously.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: The business part of it is one side and it's tough working from home.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's not as efficient as I am in the office, but I've had my mind's been all over the place.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, talk about being at capacity mad.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm at the same right now.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: Anything new that comes into my life.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: Something else got to go out.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: I got to give up something because there's a lot going on.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: But all good stuff right now.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not doing any buying, I'm bought a card and I can't tell you when.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I just haven't held, I just haven't felt the need to, you know, like I'm from a, but, you know, I talk about sticking in your lane, I tend to stick in my lane, right?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: I stick in my Bowman lane and, you know, since 26 Bowmen, you know, I haven't really gotten anything.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't had the interest to.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'm strategically liquidating when I can when it makes sense.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: I sold the George Lombard Super.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was perfect timing, great timing, after his hot start, you know, and I'm kind of just, I'm good kind of just going that route, you know, so I'm selling things that I have extra copies of Walcott's back, he's playing well, you know, I had literally 19 blues, so I've sold a few of those.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm just kind of, but I am keeping up with the market.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously prospects wise.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing my due diligence every single day, because that's just naturally, that's just what interests me.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: But other than that, man, I'm just, I'm trying to get by every day.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: Gotta let go on.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: How about, how about, well, we're talking about prospects.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: What about by as boy?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: Did you all see that?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, incredible.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: Bubba was eating what I want to start that guy had, man.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: That was nuts.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Was he not stashed away in your closet?
- 12:34[SPEAKER_03]: I've got a, think I've got a few somewhere stashed away.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, I got maybe three of the five ribs.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I got to just end up that too bad.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: But we can check the funny things.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: The funniest thing is,
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: The funniest thing is, you don't have to hear how stupid people are, especially stupid methods.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: The match traded a guy named, I think he was Haseus bias and to the Cardinals, he's in the Cardinals system.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_02]: And so when Josh bias went off and hit those three home runs,
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: only stupid med fans are like fuck you David Sterns you suck you're the worst bubble blast like dude the wrong jay bias it's the wrong bias he didn't trade Josh piers that's that's that's what yeah
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the wrong the wrong by as boys actually had a really interesting conversation Kirm with a guy this week.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's a mettsin nix fan and he does like on card art like not actually on card art he creates like art pieces and he did an initial when it was spikily and it was like a mettsin now a mettsin but a nix thing and it kind of got spikily's attention.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: Who is it is it?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: Who is it?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who is it?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: Something
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, it may be think about connecting him with you because it's like I'm a Metz and Nick's fan I was like, oh, you need to make current because you've got the very best of times and they're very worst of times right now Yeah, it's like super polarized, but
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, so boys, we wanted to dive into day and talk a little bit about a couple of things.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, currencies have got you on.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we can we can dabble in on some prospects stuff and then talk a little bit about wins and losses.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's specific to prospects.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think Bubba, you and I had mentioned how it's
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: helpful to be vulnerable.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of times the internet allows you to just celebrate your wins.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so people don't see necessarily behind the scenes when you got punched in the teeth.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's helpful for people who might be walking through a difficult time or not had a good experience with a player or whatnot to let them know that like wins and losses, you know, that they're all the time happening.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: So all that being said, I let you boys kind of lead off the conversation there.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that's where we're going to start.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean,
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody, I think everybody has their losses for the most part, right?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like kind of being at the casino, and everybody always talks about their wins, but they never talk about their losses, right?
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: And with prospects specifically in that game, it's, you know, you'd be lying if you say there's no losses whatsoever, right?
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: From my perspective, you know, most of my actual realized losses, honestly, have been pretty nominal.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: you know i've been lucky with a lot of guys i bought but i also think keeping it to a relatively small group of prospects instead of spreading it across fifty different prospects has helped help the misses there definitely some that could turn into losses right but i'm still holding on to them because the whole reason i bought them so young was knowing it could take years to really know how that plays out you know like a guy like um
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: I got like Roderick Areas, right?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I paid a premium for that card a couple of years ago with high hopes, will it end up being lost?
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: Likely, right?
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: Do I think I'll get absolutely crushed?
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, but it's gonna be a lost, but I'm still holding onto it.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not a realized loss yet, you know?
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I have a couple of guys like that, but honestly, and I'm not just saying this, like I don't have any, there's not any huge losses that come into my mind.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: I've won a lot of these times, like the guys that I've went big on,
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: i mean from a super perspective my whole strategy was to get in really early like right when the card is hit right like i've always had my finger on the pulse and i've gotten in that a good entry price and so i've been able to move on at you know at a at a nice and i like to get them when they're young so they don't necessarily have to become a star but if i sell them at the right
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: hype cycle then I'll make money, you know, in the guys that I've went all in on like I don't typically choose like 25 guys or 50 guys And I'm like I like this I like I like that and I'm gonna buy I would lose my ass that like the guys I've chosen I've got lucky and like right like jet Williams
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: I got it in him so cheap, okay?
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: Is the guy a star?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: No, is he gonna be a star?
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely not, right?
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: But like I have three reds left in his and his super, but I could sell those at a loss and still make and still have made money overall in jet Williams.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: I could probably sell those at zero and still be up on jet Williams because of the amount of low end golds, oranges, blues, blacks, and all that stuff that I bought were fractures.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I guess another guy would be walk-out, right?
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like I got in walk-out very early, too.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like the blues I'm selling, I'm making money on, and the oranges that I bought are much less than what oranges are doing now, like so,
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Connor Griffin, like obviously we're free role in that, right?
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: You and I above are free role in that.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: We got in so early on him.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of the stuff that sticks out of my mind aren't the losses, because I do think the losses for the phenomenal, but it's the meat I left on the bone on some of these guys.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's what stands out to me in my mind.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a different story.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: But like, you know, I left money on the table.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: I have money on the table with the Roman Anthony Super, right?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: I left a lot of money on the table there.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: There's some other cards that I left me on the bone when selling.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: But like sometimes that's part of the game, right?
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and some of it is intentional in that you want to sell to somebody that's a big buyer.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_02]: You want to sell to somebody for them to have a little room to make money as well.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: So they keep coming back, and that's worked.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, that repeat buyers that come back for super is that if you leave a little meat on the bone, they're gonna come back to you when they have those wins.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but I don't know, I don't want it to sound like bullshit, but I'm just being honest that like my losses have been nominal.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: And when I say nominal, I mean like, I like lose 500 bucks in a car, like I really have not had big losses.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: So it's it's an interesting kind of perspective because you talk about having a car that you paid 10 grand for it My just really fucking good, I guess And so hey, Bubba, what you weigh in on this, I want you to talk about this a little bit Yeah, so I mean, I think it's I think I mean, I think current nailed it from the perspective of
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, if you're in early enough, you have, you have, like, in the current, I talked about this even a couple, like maybe a week or two ago, we hit the Bowman game and we were so all, I mean, I don't think people maybe even realize.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: What the last three or four years look like for he and I how much work?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, in time went into it I talked about it.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know a ton I mean I I I mean it's a full-time job.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean Yeah, yeah, and it went I mean it literally I had so many numbers running through my I feel like the gap in the hangover The casino like I mean the numbers were flying everywhere across my head and current was the same way and I I will say I think when we're talking about losses
- 19:49[SPEAKER_03]: You know, one thing that's kind of opened my mind.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_03]: This has been, you know, two years ago.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: I knew I was doing it wrong.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: I went the wrong way.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: At the beginning, I'm the opposite of current.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_03]: I bought everything.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I bought every freaking card that you can buy.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: I can tell you that I hit some absolute home runs.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: Absolute smashed it out of the park because when you buy everything,
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: uh... guess what some are going to hit you're gonna hit some absolute bombs and then you're gonna have other ones when you're gonna absolutely take it to the bottom like the titanic and i think for me i think now realizing that over the last year
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: I've worked very, very hard on trying to improve my game, probably over the early the last two years, and I think that's, I think a lot of that has been kind of learning different strategies being willing to learn.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: I learn from current, I learn from ham,
- 20:44[SPEAKER_03]: I've learned from others, I've learned from my own mistakes, and now who I am as a collector is a very much a hybrid of what I used to be.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: I love to, I still love to collect, I still love to prospect, I'm not doing it the same way that I was.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not, I'm not doing a full-time job, I'm prospecting more, that's the truth, I'm not.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: Do I still look at box doors?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: Do I still look at prospects?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: I do do I still continue in my mind Making my own Bubba's top 25 bone and list.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: I do I do it because I enjoy it and then if I see that the market is wrong Then I'll dab as how I play it now.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't but I don't I'm not forcing it like I used to I used to force things These divorce purposes.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but now
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: And then people are going to get tired of hearing this and I'm going to get a hat in the shirt made.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_03]: I have, I literally on any deal I do now, I do not tolerate an option where I can lose.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, I don't, I don't tolerate it.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: I look at it and I go, if I'm going to make this purchase, what is the path to making money?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_03]: What is the path to doing well?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I tell you the answer to that is not holding a card.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: And if you, if you, and you hold a card, it doesn't mean and current your debt on.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: Think you got like Roman Anthony, right?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's all about time.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_03]: If you sold it, when you sold it, then you could've sold it maybe six months later.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_03]: But now look at the guy.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: Now the only reason Roman Anthony's prices are where they are is because I hate it for the you guys that are about to hear him up to say, the guys that own him are propping him up.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't own him.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: So it's not me, but people are propping and keeping his prices up.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: A guy doesn't play the way Roman Anthony started this year and then not play the rest of the season and his prices stay about the same.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_03]: So that's inflated.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: I, so I think it's a very interesting topic because timing is everything in this game, but I can tell you if you want to win, time in, and time out is keeping your focus, very laser focused on what you understand, and then in my opinion,
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: Go in for the home runs is fine, but understand that 90% of what you should be doing should not be the home run.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: The singles and the doubles are what allow you to go for the home run.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I have a couple of thoughts here.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: So it's funny, man.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: You look at, I look at hobbies, right?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is called the hobby, and we've talked about this.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's not the hobby, it's a business.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is a business, but it's also a hobby.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it is something that a lot of people, you know, I like, so I'm thinking about two things, golfing and fishing, okay?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Golfing and fishing are businesses for some people, but it's also a hobby for most people.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I live at the coast.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of people who fish recreationally, and they spend a lot of money to do that.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Just gas in the boat makes you nauseous.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention, you're like $10, $15, $20, $30 for every single lure that you throw into the ocean that gets cut off, you know?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: And you have people spending
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: literally thousands of dollars to go out there and fish.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what, you catch a fish?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have some mahi for dinner.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there are guys that enter into king macro tournaments or marlin tournaments or whatever.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, they might win some, but I can promise you the amount of money they spend on it far, far outweighs the amount of money that they've won.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: And so when you look at cards that way, like
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: part of this is like it's just a hobby like I'm spending money on it because it's something that I enjoy doing and I'm going to dabble in it and if I can limit my losses and make money while doing it I can't think of another hobby that allows you to do that because I can tell you like when you get into golf, I mean your country club membership, your lessons, your clubs, your balls, your whatever like you ain't making money.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: You were spending money to do something you
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: The sports card industry is so unique because it allows you to spend time and resources on something you enjoy, and I promise you, like, you almost have to be ignorant to not do it and do it smart so that you can make money.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but to your point, like, you don't go out and buy everything, but an understanding of the market.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: to be able to do this and for it to be quote-unquote free-found money, like, at silly.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I think so many people are diving in because there's so many different perspectives.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, y'all talk about Bowman, there's guys that hate Bowman, but there's guys that are in the basketball.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's guys that hate basketball.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: There's guys that are in the soccer.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's so many different fields of clay,
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: where you can go and play along with others and make money.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I love the hobby for that reason is that it is a hobby that can pay for itself if you do it wisely.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's very rare in the world around us today.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Amen.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: that might be the most profound thing that's ever been said on the sports car CEO and I've really honestly never thought of it that way until you just said that I'm being honest like four fanatics in the card industry as a whole that is true because if you're into golfing it costs money if you're into anything
- 26:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, there's not another hobby that I can think of.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_03]: If it's out, you're not doorsman or you like to hike or you bike.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_03]: Everything costs money, you know, this day and time.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_03]: And to be able to do cards, that is what makes it special.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I've talked about it before.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_03]: Just collecting cards, I guess, can be fun for someone.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: But knowing that your cards are making money, or are increasing in value, is a dopamine hit.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that is like hell, yeah, that feels good.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so, I 100% agree that, and I've never thought of it that way, that that does make this a special hobby, the only other hobby that comes to mind where someone can make money is something like only fans, where, you know, something where you can spend your time there and maybe make some money.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Don't even go there.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't know anything about that shit.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Don't go there.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about colonoscopies and stuff.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going there.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: So think about this thing about the hobby, going back to, I look at and think about, those I was just getting ready to say, you mentioned outdoorsmans, Bubba, like people who hunt.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: The only other thing that I thought about that is a hobby is like an artist.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: right like somebody who creates art like my wife like paint okay what do you what do you laugh in it I just picturing I was just picturing the hamhouse crew starting in holy fans daddies here y'all are super on every work let's bring the twins in y'all are so wrong go on
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I think about like an artist, right?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there are people who love art.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: They love to paint.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: They love to create musicians, et cetera.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: But how many of them are actually like, they might love doing it, but they're not making money at it.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so there's this tension that exists between is the thing that I love to do, but it doesn't really make me money.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I've got to go over here and do something I don't enjoy to be able to fund this thing that I do enjoy.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_03]: Well, let's, let's, I'm to complete that thought.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_03]: So my dad has said this for years.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_03]: My dad's race since he was 18 years old.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: Most people that get into racing these days are pretty wealthy folks because it cost money to buy the car, cost money to get the car to the track, cost money to enter the race, cost money to put tires in the car, it just cost money to maintain the car is an expensive sport, right?
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: And my dad has told me he said, you don't know how many guys racing has chewed up and spit out rich guys they come in they thought it was fun and then guess what they looked down and they're spending so much money it's not fun.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: Bate sports cards can be the exact same thing if you don't know what the hell you're doing right because it almost chewed me up spit me out right and
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: Use what we're kind of telling you right now I think and understand be very targeted on study the hobby study what you're wanting to buy go in and buy the things that you understand
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then my best piece of advice is take the singles and doubles when you can and then hold the cards that you're willing to go to zero and I said that I don't know if I said this publicly, but the new strategy for me is every time I make profit in this game if I'm not going to read and put it back into the another card that that's there I'm just using the same capital but the new capital is coming in I am not buying grail cards with that money.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: That is what I'm doing.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going and taking that money, intruding it like it's a stock that I just picked up from the gain of the card I just made.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'm compiling that money, let it sit there, when it hits enough, I find a card I want to buy a sweet baby roof vintage or something.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: I buy it, I put it in the safe, and it's like a bar of gold.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and which I love the reinvestment of profit into, I mean, that's basically the hobby paid for it.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like think about if you're golfing and you're sponsored and they give you golf clubs and golf balls.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like yep, thank you.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to buy another golf club.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: I can just play for free.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Current.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know you've got a hard stop here, Bubba, and I are going to carry on.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to give you the opportunity to kind of weigh in any thoughts before we jump off the episode.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: You jump off the episode today.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know,
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a really interesting conversation, so I wish I didn't have to jump off, but, um, yeah, I don't really have any thoughts.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, I wish I wanted to hear about Bubba's losses.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I really want to hear.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: Stay tuned.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_03]: Stay tuned.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_03]: Stay tuned on a, uh, when you want your hop off, listen to the rest of the pod.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'll share those really quick.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: Eric, we, we air every Wednesday morning at like 7 a.m. sports cards to get a podcast.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: So you can find it there.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate that reminder, and I can find you at only fence.com slash Hamhouse Sports.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: That was your game.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: You will not be able to find me there.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: And not that anybody ever do not go there.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: Love you guys.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was great chatting with you.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: I encourage you appreciate your current later.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: Be good.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, Baba, you know, I thought about this and then we'll talk about the lost thing.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: But like, you know, it's interesting we were talking about like,
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: the idea of timing is what led us to the point where you said basically like the singles and the doubles pay for the home runs.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was thinking about current is he was big on Camino early, you know, and Camino had this peak.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Right, then he had this kind of dip.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's had this like resurfacing.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: Remin' Anthony, we talked about him.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: Bobby Witt Jr's been the same way.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, your gunner Henderson's is probably going the other direction right now.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's so fascinating to me at the ability to understand the market and people's natural inclination of like fear of missing out.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: of like how to be able to leverage stuff.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's a segregation in my mind of true assets, versus perceived assets.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, Bowman is perceived assets.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas 90s Jordan,
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: is true assets.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: And now, Bowman can move from perceived assets to true assets.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: But what does it take?
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: It takes that guy becoming one of 10 players.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: And until that point in time, it's all perceived assets.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I have another thought to say, somebody was flaming me personally on social media because I make a statement, I've set a
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that guy said, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: And you don't want to say to him, you've obviously never gone broke because I have.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you never go broke, taken profit.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: You go broke by having these wishful dreams and holding on to stuff too long and not having any revenue or any income and it's all fairy tales and, you know, the main pixie dust.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: your ability in this hobby to make small wins and then have assets.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's an entirely different game.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: You never go broke taking profit.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: So if I bought a card with profit and I have conviction to hold on to it for 10 years,
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: and it goes to zero.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still in the green.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: If it goes to a million dollars, well, then guess what?
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's all found money.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, I just wanted to say that about the timing thing and then also tie it back to Bowman about perceived value versus actual value and I want to let you throw any faults in on that because I want to say something else about like like cards as art and collectibles.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think, I mean, I think you're spot on as far as
- 34:04[SPEAKER_03]: the losses that I have.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: E dad is the hard part about prospecting.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_03]: uh... because there is nobody really telling you there until a guy is flat out released yet that it's time to move on you know what i mean like there's still like you can have a prospect and i've got a stack of them sitting on the desk in front of me here that i still wish to hope the whole time that i bought them on like do this still got this guy still has talent he can still make it he can still do it he's going to get an opportunity is going to get the call
- 34:35[SPEAKER_03]: and then you hope and you hope and you hope and the price continues to drop and they drop and they drop.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_03]: A guy like an Elijah Green has all the tools, the dude is huge.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: I went all in on Elijah Green.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he is one of the biggest swing investors I've had in the hobby.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: The dude is toolsed up.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_03]: He's like six foot.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: Six foot two, two hundred and thirty pounds.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: They're just pure muscle.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_03]: Speed coming out.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, first round draft pick, everything to be the guy and the dude cannot hit Kerbal's he just can't he can't do it and he's shown some flashes of life at time and then he doesn't flash it and then he does have it and the bottom line is that I had gotten in and out.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what I bought him early on, I would have made money on him, you know, I would have ridden the wave of Elijah Green and I could have kept a couple back if I wanted to and gone for the home run, but I didn't because I wished and I hoped and I dreamed of him being what I thought he was going to be.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: And in reality, I was wrong.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: On the flip side of that.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: Connor Griffin, I had convinced that is what I will tell you.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: If you have conviction and you go down with conviction, you can keep your head high.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: Just sometimes you're just gonna be wrong, but you can't have conviction on 100 gods.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: Or you're going to lose money, and I can continue with those names.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: A guy like a deal, Armadore, okay, from the Rockies.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: I own a ton of a deal, Armadore.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_03]: I still do.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_03]: Guess what?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: he's giving me a little hope right now they called him up this last week ham and the dude is batting like 400 and it's like he's back you know he's still 23 years old i think 24 years old and he's come up and he's ball it out now but there's a lot of those examples where you just hold on to this guide you just hope for that glimmer and
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: hoping does not make you money in the sports card game.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_03]: Knowing what you're buying, understanding the trend of a car, knowing what your in and out opportunity is is the way you make money.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: And then sometimes knowing when to hit the deck, but losing 10 to 20% on a guy instead of losing 80%.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: allows you to stay in the game.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Bubba you know a thousand percent on what you said there But I'm curious to know what this the rest of your list is like who whose Bubba's list of wannabes well, I mean the list is too long to we'd have to have a whole episode here
- 37:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think, but I will share I've got some cards just sitting here on my desk in front of me.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so again, this list of cards, some of these guys, are they done for, are they never going to be?
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, but I mean, it's still yet to be said for some of these guys, because they're still young.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_03]: But we're coming to that window where a lot of these guys are now getting their first cups of coffee, something to go through this list.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: One of these guys will start off with a guy that's in the pros and now he's actually
- 37:36[SPEAKER_03]: sitting on my desk.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: Well been, Francisco.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: Isaiah Drake, the brave.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: Don't, man, this one hurts right here.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_03]: This guy hurts because I went all in on this guy.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: I owned the super of this guy.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that, I mean, this guy was sort of killed it in double in AAA.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: He just hasn't, he's been, he's become a quad A player and it hurts my heart to say it.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: Thomas the jazzy for that for the he got traded from the Rangers to the Cardinal got him No, they marked that same thing.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_03]: I love that dude.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: I love no, they marked that love his ability will he ever become what I hope to you is gonna be Johnny from mellow Braden Taylor just got traded Paulino Santana
- 38:25[SPEAKER_03]: Brandon Maya for the Yankees guy went all in on here's a guy that's in the pros.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm still on the fence with this guy.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: I own a fair amount of him.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of his good stuff really good stuff.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_03]: Julio Rodriguez, right?
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: There's an tricky one.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: Guy that's in the pros.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: He I thought legit was the next kid, kid kangaroo junior, right?
- 38:45[SPEAKER_03]: But he's he's kind of like,
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: Not doing that.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, Brady House, a guy I've been being on.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_03]: He's now back in the pros.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_03]: He's playing well.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: He got a second opportunity.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: I talked about Amador, Chase Davis, another toolsed up guy for the Cardinals.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_03]: Big dude owned a lot of him.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_03]: Tommy Troy.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: Aiden Smith just got traded to the man.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: I could go on and on Tyson Lewis.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_03]: Jason Cherio.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: I've even got a Jackson holiday that I didn't sell one of the Jackson holidays that I can't a blue sitting right here in front of me.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: One of the ones I sold most of him, but I did keep one.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_03]: Here's one, a fun one.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: Drew Jones.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew Jones is good.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: Remember when he was the the big
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: So I could continue on with this stack of cards in front of me.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: And that's why prospecting can be this mind-effet times because all of those guys, there was a reason I was buying them, right?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: There was a real, there was a real hope of what they could become.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_03]: And they showed at some point or another that they could do it.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: and then something changed, or they just haven't gotten the opportunity to show it.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's where you brought in the prospecting game.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_03]: You've got to make those decisions.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like a guy like Brady House, we will know about Brady House.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: I believe in the next year.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_03]: Because look at a guy like Cal Raleigh.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'll use an example of Cal Raleigh.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_03]: If you had owned Cal Raleigh cards four years ago, he would have had no value.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, with berserk.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: If you had taken your opportunity to finally exit calmer, like Raleigh, when he went berserk, you're going to capitalize and make money.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_03]: Now, boom, on the flip side, he's batting 150.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: Look at a guy like Jordan Walker.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody got out of Jordan Walker.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_03]: They sold too soon.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: Look at Jordan Walker, right?
- 40:53[SPEAKER_03]: Well, now is the time to get out while you're on top.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: Probably.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and so I think sometimes that's what I have learned on this stuff when you've got as many cards as I can.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes, when you're committed,
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm willing to write it to the bottom of some of these guys because I mean, who knows if they do hit?
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: They go up 10 times.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's the thing about hitting.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to bring this up.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: So this is the current statistical rankings and major league baseball.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: most of those guys are unknowns, like they're not restores, like adult, right?
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: Then you got Freddie Freeman, who is just amazing that he continues to do it, but look at Freddie Freeman's pricing.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: compared to this next guy.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: Show him time, right?
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: Which the fact that show hey still top 10 and batting in the league like it speaks to who he is as a player, then you got all Josh John.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was the guy, McCarthy for Colorado Lee with San Fran, Rumpfield with Colorado Burlison, then Jordan Walker, then Rafael, then Michael Harris.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's another name Bobby Witt at 18.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Aronda Xavier Edwards, chased a lawyer, Kevin McGonagal.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: I bet if you took and you did a quick AI of all of their first boom in prices, my point is performance does not necessarily drop value.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: It does, but it doesn't.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's all hype.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you can have a guy like Louis Arias, who has been consistently one of the best hitters in baseball, you know, over the last five to seven years.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: And nobody cares.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: And nobody cares, I don't know what his cards do, but I can't imagine that they do the kind of stuff that people get excited about, you know what I mean?
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's where this prospect game is, you have to recognize this.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: It is solely hype driven and it is all about perspective.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: and perceived value, and so to be able to get in and out of prospects and move along those trends is how you win in the prospect game.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: Having this long-term strategy, what yeah, you might be the guy that bought, you know, like Shivhaio Tani for example, back in 2018 after he had a surgery and everybody else bailed on him, you might have held on to that guy.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to tell you this is the
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say I bought a card.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take a Michael Jordan card for example.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that's not used Jordan.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Let's use a Prospect card.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: If I bought a Prospect card for $20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: right?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: So why would I not take double my money on a statistical probability where the payout is probably like 90, I don't, I don't get it.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so when it comes to prospects, that's the game plan.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the flip side of this conversation, Baba, is the other part of this that I want to talk about on today's episode.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that is when we talked about it last week on the on the pod,
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Pards as collectibles, okay.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Now, a number to five show, hey, of Tony, absolutely a piece of art.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, there's probably a lot of number to five, but it's still show, hey, of Tony, and when you're talking about early Bowman stuff, like it's a super rare asset.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Versus a number to five to tell Marte, you know what I mean?
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Not an art piece because he doesn't have the sustainable performance that warrants it.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: But when you get into some of these Jordan cards,
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: When you have a Michael Jordan card that they only made 300 of, I honestly believe that the valuation of some of these rare Jordan cards is still low compared to the market, because if you have a Shomeo Tani number to five, right, that's going to do a million dollars.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: And again, you have a micro Jordan insert that's numbered to 300 that you can buy for $10,000.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at a cross-thub spectrum, you look at Mickey Manals.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think 52 Manals, there's like 383,500 or whatever.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine if there was a Mickey Manal card that they only made 300 of.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: you know, back in 1953.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that that thing survived this long, when you look at long-term sustainability of some of these assets, I still think there's so much room for growth with some of these really, really rare cards.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: And the beauty is, is with the market being dominated by flippers and repackers or whatever, when you can get your hands on some of these things, like you should get your hands on some of these things.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: Because these were cards that were not meant to be transacted in the open market, this is a rare piece of art that I think should stay off market.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: And again, that's where you have to have the strategy about securing assets in actual real tangible assets versus this, you know,
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: perceived asset thing.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of where my mind has been lately.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a lot of this stuff is just perceived.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 46:35[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of the modern stuff especially is perceived value and it's the latest and greatest and it's the new trend that's the new product.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you can make money but get in and out.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: But when you get something that's like a true
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: art form or art piece like don't be I like my mindset shifts with that.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to say that to our listeners because it's not like if if you know if hand makes money.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's out.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: I look at a cross section.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: So a little Matt and we're talking about this idea of the day bubble.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Say right around the show.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: What if we could create a resource that took into consideration?
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: the card, the grading sensitivity, the population, how difficult it was to hit back in the day, and you could almost, instead of classifying cards based off of like the market's perceived value of them, like for example, Carrot con Jr. rookie card.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: The market would stay the 82 top-straighted Carrot ripkin as a better is the best card.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue that the PMG ripkin is the
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: or the 101 from the Masterpiece Collection or whatever.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: It would be really interesting to kind of have like an approach where you could rank these assets, not based on marketability, that would be one factor, but rareity, scarcity, grade, grade sensitivity, path difficulty, all of that, to actually determine a hierarchy of card value.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to see what that look like.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, man, I mean, I think have you ever thought have you ever looked and just when you had time on your hands, have you ever just started to look at the population of some of these older cards, these really like the real old stuff, the roofs, the if you ever just sat there and been like, how many of these cards are they're actually yeah.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: But you five 15, number 47, Hancut.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_03]: You know the card?
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: Not a fan, no.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a bay booth and it's like he looks.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a cartoon looking card.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: Do that, yeah.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_03]: Hancut.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_03]: There is only 21 total that I see great at all time.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, 21.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_03]: The card is selling.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, how is a card of Babe Ruth, which 21 in existence selling for $5,000?
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I see right here.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: Do you see that?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you see that.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: And they're all SGC graded for whatever Ruth.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: That I see I say, well, great.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm yeah.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_03]: So, all as she's see graded, 21 of them total.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_03]: How was that card $5,000 bucks?
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's the kind of stuff I feel like when you look at value of these things we're talking about.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about it before time and time again.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_03]: What is going to hold value over the long term?
- 49:42[SPEAKER_03]: it's going to be this stuff that they're not very many of.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's not going to be this card that 20,000 other people have.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's not, it's not, it's going to be this card that somebody wants and they can't get their hands on.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's what drives value.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: And well, just to interject real quick, so there was a Spider-Man rookie card PSA 9.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think last night that sold for a couple of days ago,
- 50:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, again, from a cultural perspective, Spider-Man's pretty popular, like Babe Ruth is pretty popular.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: But to your point is, you've got a Spider-Man card that's doing $175,000, and a Babe Ruth card that's doing $5,000, you know what I mean?
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: It shows you the potential of assets like this that just don't exist.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, versus, I was looking up the other day, a Nolan Ryan rookie, a 1968 Nolan Ryan Jerry Coosman Topch rookie.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: Take a guess, Baba.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: In 1968, how many graded copies of that card do you think exists?
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now for context, okay, there are 50,000 I think Jordan rookies and there are 3,500 mail rookies.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that's like 80s to the 50s.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: How many would you think in 1968
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: $1,500?
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: $2,500?
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: So again, you think, oh, I said no one Ryan Rookie, it's a rare, there are 33,000 copies of that card.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: 33,000 copies of that card.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: So when you start to look at it and you go, okay, no one Ryan, like there are 33,000 copies of his rookie card.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like there has to be a lot of money in the market for no one Ryan to be able to drive that value up.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: That card is very rare in a high grade because of the sinnering in the cut, which is why I think a PSA non's the highest graded card and it's probably 150,000 our card.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: But when you start to kind of understand the nuance of actual value versus perceived value, I think that's really when you win in the hobby because you have to play the perceived value game and get your capital, but you have to store your capital in actual value.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: And that to me is the difference in what sustains somebody in the home versus somebody who puts all their money in actual value and they never want to sell it and it just sits there.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: versus somebody who's just constantly playing the perceived game, hoping that the valuation on these things long-term will be sustainable.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: Does it make sense?
- 52:13[SPEAKER_03]: 100%.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_03]: So to tell, kind of move back, if we may, back to what we were talking about in losses and modern cards.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_03]: I have three thoughts I want to leave you with with this.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody asked me yesterday, him.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_03]: They said, what, all that's in cards and they were asking me, what should I do with them?
- 52:32[SPEAKER_03]: What's about this card?
- 52:33[SPEAKER_03]: What about this card?
- 52:34[SPEAKER_03]: In junior caminero came up, okay?
- 52:37[SPEAKER_03]: Junior caminero, I think we can both agree.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's very polarizing.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_03]: He's a heck of a player.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, would you agree?
- 52:44[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's a superstar, right?
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, top in the league in home runs he's got the Swagger International, yeah.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_03]: Is he the best all-time third basement in your mind?
- 52:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's trading right now.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: His orange BSA stands for almost trading it almost $30,000.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_03]: His red is probably worth 75 to 100 at this point, okay?
- 53:07[SPEAKER_03]: BSA 10.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_03]: There is no other third baseman in the history of the game.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_03]: That trades like that.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_03]: And this guy was asking me, what should I do with it?
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: I said sell because at some point you have to also understand when a prospect gets to superstar status at what point does that number continue to propel itself.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_03]: There's got, and I'm not saying that a player like a Tony can't set new standards because they can't.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_03]: He has, he's reset a market but third base
- 53:42[SPEAKER_03]: as a history.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_03]: Look at no one there and not out.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_03]: A hell of a player, no one there and not out is going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_03]: Look at Manima Chata going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_03]: Look at where their charge straight today, a fraction of where his dude.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_03]: And the junior caminero today was told he was going to be Manima Chata.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_03]: are told he was going to be no one there or not, I think he would take it as far as their career.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_03]: And so my point is when you get to a certain point, the hype is there, you ring the register and you move on to the next thing.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so I go to say that to go to the kind of the next thought, which is,
- 54:24[SPEAKER_03]: we talked about it earlier and you were taught you brought up a rise.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_03]: What drives a market is always going to be when you've got someone that's like a dead card, okay?
- 54:33[SPEAKER_03]: Or someone that's kind of, so we'll go to, we'll go to Cal Raleigh again.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_03]: Cal Raleigh had no card value.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_03]: He was very similar to Luis Aras.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_03]: He might have been a pretty average or a league above average catcher before last year.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_03]: But all of a sudden, in everyone's opinion, even my own last year,
- 54:53[SPEAKER_03]: he became something had changed.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: When that thing changes, you ring the rest.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: You packed it.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_03]: You ring the register.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so when you're holding these prospects, most prospects have a moment in time where something's changed in the people's eyes.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: They have a hot streak.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_03]: They get a promotion.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_03]: They get they get the
- 55:19[SPEAKER_03]: you're going to get that window in time on most prospects.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_03]: Some guys like Elijah Green, they just never do it at all, right?
- 55:26[SPEAKER_03]: Drew Jones, for example, he doesn't know.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_03]: Well, now I looked at his dad's other day.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_03]: Well, maybe he's showing signs of life.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he does have that moment.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_03]: Some guys never have it.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_03]: Those are the ones you're discreet on.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_03]: But everybody else will have a moment.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: You'll have that moment to exit if you're smart.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_03]: And you gotta take it.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know,
- 55:49[SPEAKER_03]: And it gets harder and harder and harder once the average MLB fan has watched a player play It takes a hell of a performance or something like a team's performance a guy like Michael Harris Michael Harris with their people realize that or not having one of the best seasons in this league right his the way he's hit all years back in 290 he's having he's gonna break career home run record
- 56:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to take for Michael, his prices have gone up, but not much.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not like that, crazy.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's for him now to get, he's going to have to do this year after year after year to get that value up or he's going to have to do something polarizing in the playoffs.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: and everybody goes, wow, look at that Michael Harris, he jumped over the wall and he caught a ball and he went four for four with two bombs and then the price just kind of goes to that new trajectory.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_03]: So a guy like array, a rise.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: I guarantee if you look at his prices over the last month he got traded to the fillies, that's an opportunity.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_03]: He got traded to a new fan base, more people want his cards because now he's on a new team and guess what he's been balling out.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: He goes to the playoffs.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_03]: He balls out for Philly.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to go higher.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: So that is the thing.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think with all players, you're going to have opportunities.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_03]: You've got to be aware.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_03]: And you can't sit there hoping for more once you get that opportunity.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_03]: Once you know you're in that moment of it.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, I'm looking for the opportunity to read the register.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_03]: But the last game I want to play with you, Ham, because I bet this has been on me and Jack or I done the road for baseball the other day.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_03]: I had to his tournament.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_03]: And he loves looking at batting averageers.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_03]: He loves looking at stats.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_03]: He's just like me or stats guys.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_03]: And we were looking to do it or updating it on the stats.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_03]: And you started hitting this early.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_03]: Without looking at your computer, how many major league baseball players right now are over 300 this season?
- 57:52[SPEAKER_03]: seven.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_03]: How many players pound in the league this year are over two 70 batting average.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: 28.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: 46.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: 46.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_03]: How many are over two 80.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: 20.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_03]: 24.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_03]: So you think of think about that for a second.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, dude.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_03]: That means like every team.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_03]: If every team in the league, almost every team, they'll only get one guy, almost.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_03]: One guy that's batting over two 70s.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, over two 70s.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the thing that gains change so much.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where like you see these pictures, like Jacob Miserowski's numbers are just to the moon on his card values.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_01]: because it's a pitcher dominated sport right now.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's not a hit or dominated sport.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hitting is the sexy part of baseball.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's what everybody sees, the home runs, the averages, or whatever, but like, statistical, like reality is, is that like, those kinds of statistics that we all got used to batting 300 in the major leagues with, you know, 30, 40 bombs, whatever it is.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's just not happening.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not happening.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: Because the pitching's gotten so good.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's gotten so targeted.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, dude, it is fascinating
- 59:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's crazy.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I mean, we go down the list.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_03]: There's only 60.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_03]: There's only 64 people that are adding over to 60.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: And the whole that means that means each team would have two guys.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_03]: that were over 260.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_03]: And so when you look at the game, not only has hitting change, but what's changed, pitching change.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_03]: Pitchers don't get the wins.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_03]: Guys can be, you know, guys can be, have a two-ERA and have seven wins.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, a guy because of the game has changed with the bullpins and the bullpin arms and how far they go in games, hitting has changed because the pitching is so dominant.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_03]: It the starters are really good and then the bullpins are lead.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's when a guy like James would, who's 23, 24 years old, he doesn't get the credit that he deserves to be James would, and to have 30 bombs.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_03]: For 30 bombs, 73 RBIs from the lead off spot.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_03]: And he's going to hit 35 or 40 home runs injured with almost 30 steals leading league in runs and walks like.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_03]: doesn't even get in the attention any man.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's crazy too.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then because of that, the market and a card hype doesn't respond to it.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just it's fascinating.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, just it's it's kind of like buyer beware.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: You can be convicted about a guy's and he can be really good.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: And his card value can still be flat.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and that's where this whole game with like cards and perceived value.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think it just matters tremendously.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_01]: So like again, just a final food for thought for our listeners, like you're going to have losses, but you can also limit those losses by not being tied up in perceived value and really securing your assets into more true value, you know, to mean true rare stuff.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: So there's been a lot of nuggets today, but like this is a super, like,
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_01]: information full of information episode for people and we kind of went all over the place, but I think ultimately a lot of value here.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we could we could honestly have a 2.0 on the whole vintage conversation about low pop and all this like to me, that's where it's so fun to play this game of what the future is going to look like and where to find value,
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: No, it totally does, and I think it's moving in that direction.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think the buyers are getting smarter.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_01]: The capitals getting smarter and people are going into more.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to get to a point where people are always going to play the game with modern and making money and flipping and stuff, but then you're going to get people who are truly locking away assets that you're not going to be able to put your hands on again.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when there's, when there's very little supply and a ton of demand, I mean, that's what causes, you know, values to raise significantly.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's not about what it, what, what, what, what did it so for last?
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not about cops.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's about, oh, no, I want that.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_01]: I want that asset.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: you know, and I have to cash to pay for it.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go buy it.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll probably appreciate you today, man.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_01]: Always good to jump on and chat it up for our listeners.
