- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, right now, I'd like to take the reins here
- 0:02Speaker 1: because we're transitioning to covering the ACC. Yes, this is
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Power 2, and we like to focus predominantly on
- 0:08Speaker 1: the top two conferences in college football, the Big Ten
- 0:11Speaker 1: and the SEC.
- 0:11Speaker 2: But every once in a while, we wade into the.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Waters of the Big 12, the Pac-12, Group of Six,
- 0:16Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. But let's talk about
- 0:18Speaker 1: the ACC because this Friday night, the time slot champions,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Florida State, will challenge Louisville at 6 p.m. Central Time,
- 0:25Speaker 1: the greatest time zone known to man. I'm going to
- 0:28Speaker 1: defer to our local Florida State expert and beloved T.J.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Pittenger.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This segment is presented by PrizePix. Florida State versus Louisville.
- 0:36Speaker 1: What does Florida State have to do to win this game?
- 0:40Speaker 1: What's the path to victory?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Replicate the performance against Virginia and make Louisville one-dimensional. Now,
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'll say this. Making Louisville one-dimensional... with the running backs
- 0:51Speaker 2: that they have, is not going to work the same
- 0:55Speaker 2: way that it did against Virginia, because they don't have
- 0:57Speaker 2: the same horses. But it will give you a chance
- 1:00Speaker 2: in this game. I think what made Florida State so,
- 1:03Speaker 2: so successful against Virginia was that they made, they said,
- 1:09Speaker 2: you're not running the ball on us. And if Bo
- 1:11Speaker 2: Pribula can beat us with his arm, so be it.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Lincoln Kienholz, despite the lower body injury that had his
- 1:18Speaker 2: ankles taped up like he was Rocky Balboa after his
- 1:21Speaker 2: sixth fight. Like, despite that, I think Jeff Brown would
- 1:26Speaker 2: welcome Florida state trying to, uh, you know, trying to
- 1:31Speaker 2: let keen holes throw it, but you got to pick
- 1:34Speaker 2: your poison on this. You've got to, are you stopping
- 1:37Speaker 2: the run? You stop in the past. Obviously, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: your goal as a defense is to stop everything. But
- 1:41Speaker 2: if you're being realistic, are you really able to do
- 1:43Speaker 2: that against an offense that doesn't often get one dimensional? Um,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I think offensively Florida state will continue to roll. I've
- 1:51Speaker 2: talked about this and as down as I am on
- 1:53Speaker 2: Mike Norvell, he's called really good offenses. The, the last
- 1:57Speaker 2: three games, um, SMU is, is the outlier where I
- 2:01Speaker 2: think he was pretty bad. And looking at the last
- 2:03Speaker 2: three games, I think Mike Norvell certainly cost Florida state
- 2:06Speaker 2: in that game, uh, by not trusting Ashton Daniels to
- 2:08Speaker 2: do a little bit more, but talking about a kid
- 2:10Speaker 2: that went on the road and put up 377 yards
- 2:13Speaker 2: up against a team that we're all very sold on
- 2:15Speaker 2: in Alabama. Um, That's really good, and I don't have
- 2:18Speaker 2: a lot of bad things to say about the offense
- 2:20Speaker 2: in that situation. You scored 36 points against Alabama. Your
- 2:23Speaker 2: offense had the ball for 19 minutes against Central Arkansas
- 2:26Speaker 2: and still was able to put up, what, 34 points?
- 2:29Speaker 2: They had one turnover, an errant Ashton Daniels throw, and
- 2:34Speaker 2: then they punted once with the backups in. Outside of that,
- 2:36Speaker 2: Florida State scored on every single possession they had in
- 2:38Speaker 2: that Central Arkansas game in 19 minutes of possession because
- 2:42Speaker 2: their defense couldn't get out of the field. And then
- 2:43Speaker 2: you put up 38 points against UVA. The offense is
- 2:46Speaker 2: not the problem, and I think that they will have
- 2:48Speaker 2: some success on Friday night. Florida State has not won
- 2:51Speaker 2: a road game, I think, in 1,046 days. Last time
- 2:55Speaker 2: was in the swamp against the Florida Gators with a
- 2:58Speaker 2: backup quarterback, I will remind you. But if the offense
- 3:01Speaker 2: doesn't just go completely brained out on the road like
- 3:03Speaker 2: they have the last couple of years, I think the
- 3:05Speaker 2: offense will put up points. The defense has to find
- 3:08Speaker 2: a way to hold Louisville, I think, under 28 points.
- 3:15Speaker 2: that's where I would put your litmus test for this.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I have enough confidence in Florida state's offense to get
- 3:19Speaker 2: to 28. I think that any more than that, you're
- 3:23Speaker 2: asking a lot on the road. So can the defense
- 3:25Speaker 2: hold them under four touchdowns? If so, I think they
- 3:28Speaker 2: can win.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Well, let me ask you, do you know how many
- 3:31Speaker 3: times that they have scored under four touchdowns, the Louisville
- 3:33Speaker 3: Cardinals this year?
- 3:35Speaker 2: I would imagine zero times. Cause they did it on
- 3:37Speaker 2: Saturday twice.
- 3:39Speaker 4: They've been held under 30 points.
- 3:40Speaker 2: They lost.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 3: 30 to 27. 31-28 to NC State. So again, it's possible.
- 3:50Speaker 3: My big question is, which are you willing to give
- 3:52Speaker 3: up on? Are you willing to go ahead and sell
- 3:54Speaker 3: if you are this Tony White defense on stopping the
- 3:57Speaker 3: ability of Lincoln Keenholz and the combination of Brown and
- 3:59Speaker 3: Brown in the backfield? Or do you want to make
- 4:02Speaker 3: sure that you force some turnovers and allow those explosive runs?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Because if you go ahead and wait, There's McCoy downfield for.
- 4:08Speaker 4: A gain of 15. There's Trey Richardson for a gain
- 4:10Speaker 4: of 22.
- 4:11Speaker 3: There's Skinner that's involved in the pass attack, who's been
- 4:14Speaker 3: probably the most underappreciated tight end in college football this year.
- 4:17Speaker 3: They can move the six through the air. And the
- 4:19Speaker 3: thing that you also got to remind yourself of is
- 4:21Speaker 3: that Lincoln Keenholds likes playing this backyard BS football, where
- 4:24Speaker 3: he is waiting behind the line of scrimmage as it
- 4:26Speaker 3: breaks on down for a receiver to get on open.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So there's been busted coverages, and there's been busted coverages
- 4:32Speaker 3: in every game so far for... Florida State, minus the
- 4:37Speaker 3: Central Arkansas game that you can allow an explosive player to,
- 4:40Speaker 3: is there an opportunity to where you maybe sell out
- 4:43Speaker 3: on the run, but now here comes a Trey Richardson
- 4:46Speaker 3: 67-yard house call because we're not in place.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I think that's more so my concern. But on the
- 4:50Speaker 4: flip side, think about this.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Louisville's defense was a big question mark we all had
- 4:55Speaker 3: after the SMU game when we were saying that they
- 4:58Speaker 3: belonged in the top tier of the next teams in
- 5:00Speaker 3: the ACC.
- 5:01Speaker 4: And what do they do?
- 5:02Speaker 3: They let it down against Wake. They let it down
- 5:04Speaker 3: against C.J. Bailey and NC State. I understand that weather
- 5:07Speaker 3: conditions were a factor in one of those games.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Doesn't matter. The explosives are there. The explosives can be had.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Do you also trust, though, Ashton Daniels to be the
- 5:15Speaker 3: guy to get the explosives in the passing attack? Because
- 5:18Speaker 3: part of the reason why you won against Virginia is
- 5:21Speaker 3: because of you won with the legs of Ashton Daniels,
- 5:24Speaker 3: not the arm.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Zero passing touchdowns, one interception.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I'll get right back to this clip of the Power
- 5:29Speaker 2: 2 here on College Football Addiction. But first, I want
- 5:31Speaker 2: to give some love to our friends over at PrizePix.
- 5:34Speaker 2: This weekend, game of the year. Alabama-Georgia vibes are high
- 5:39Speaker 2: in Tuscaloosa and in Athens. The game will happen in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And we are taking Keelan Russell's passing touchdowns more than 1.5.
- 5:48Speaker 2: We're also taking Gunnar Stockton's passing total more than 209.5.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I feel really good about those. You can go check
- 5:56Speaker 2: out the full episode of The Power 2 to get
- 5:58Speaker 2: everybody's picks for this weekend's game of the week. Maybe
- 6:03Speaker 2: game of the year. Again, use the PrizePix app. Code
- 6:06Speaker 2: is HMA. Play $ 5. Get $ 150 in lineups instantly if
- 6:09Speaker 2: you win on the PrizePix app. Now back to the clip. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think they will be able to run the ball
- 6:15Speaker 2: somewhat effectively in this game, which will open up everything else,
- 6:18Speaker 2: whether that's Daniels or Cromaw, who I think is elite
- 6:24Speaker 2: or close to elite. I think that word probably gets
- 6:25Speaker 2: tossed around a little too much, but I'm fine saying
- 6:28Speaker 2: close to elite. Yeah, I think they will be able
- 6:30Speaker 2: to run the ball somewhat effectively in And you do wonder,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, is that kind of what, you know, talking
- 6:38Speaker 2: about being one-dimensional? Is Florida State a little too one-dimensional? Well,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I think Daniels has shown that he can go on
- 6:42Speaker 2: the road and not be impacted by a raucous crowd
- 6:44Speaker 2: in Tuscaloosa and throw for 377 yards. Florida State's going
- 6:48Speaker 2: to live off the explosives. They're going to try and
- 6:50Speaker 2: run the ball effectively. And then they're going to take
- 6:53Speaker 2: shots down the field to Danzy, who has track speed.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And they're going to take shots to Deuce Robinson, who's
- 6:58Speaker 2: a matchup nightmare. Um, so yeah, I think it's a,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I mean, in Vegas would tell you this too. What's
- 7:02Speaker 2: the spread five, five, five and a half points.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Five and a half, I believe.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 2: You take away three and a half. It's three and
- 7:07Speaker 2: a half Louisville. Okay.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It opened at seven and a half. Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So Vegas is telling you that's a coin flip and
- 7:13Speaker 2: they've got the home field advantage. Right. And so I
- 7:16Speaker 2: think Vegas might be buying a little too much of
- 7:18Speaker 2: what Florida state sold on Saturday, but maybe Florida state did.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I mean, there, there are chances that like turnarounds are
- 7:24Speaker 2: real and, Maybe they figured something out by putting four
- 7:27Speaker 2: down linemen on the line of scrimmage a little bit
- 7:29Speaker 2: more than they have with that crappy 3-3-5 defense that
- 7:31Speaker 2: they've played forever under Tony White. So, yeah, if Florida
- 7:36Speaker 2: State plays 40% as well defensively as they did against Virginia,
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think they'll win the game. The problem is if
- 7:45Speaker 2: they play anywhere to the level that they played against
- 7:49Speaker 2: Bama or Central Arkansas, they'll lose defensively. I mean, that's
- 7:52Speaker 2: just how straightforward it is. I think the offense will
- 7:56Speaker 2: probably be fine. The defense is the entire key to
- 8:01Speaker 2: the engine at this point. They give up nine straight
- 8:03Speaker 2: scoring possessions against Bama. They give up over five, even
- 8:10Speaker 2: with all the turnovers, they give up 500 yards of
- 8:12Speaker 2: offense against SMU. They give up 40 minutes of time
- 8:15Speaker 2: of possession to Central Arkansas. Virginia is the outlier defensively.
- 8:20Speaker 2: If you play Anywhere close to that, 40% of that,
- 8:25Speaker 2: you'll probably find a way to sneak out with a
- 8:27Speaker 2: win because I do have a lot of confidence in
- 8:29Speaker 2: this offense. You'd be remiss if you didn't have the
- 8:33Speaker 2: bigger picture conversation. Do you want to win this game
- 8:35Speaker 2: or not? I don't know. I think half the fan
- 8:38Speaker 2: base is split on that. People will say, somebody brought
- 8:41Speaker 2: this up to me this morning. This was an interesting conversation.
- 8:43Speaker 2: People will say, you're not a real fan if you
- 8:45Speaker 2: cheer for Florida State to lose. And then others will say, hey,
- 8:49Speaker 2: what I cheer for doesn't matter. but I want what's
- 8:51Speaker 2: best for the program, and Florida State losing is what's
- 8:53Speaker 2: best for the program, so here we are. I think
- 8:56Speaker 2: people would change their minds on that if the administration
- 8:59Speaker 2: came out today and said, which no administration has ever
- 9:03Speaker 2: done this, I'm not expecting it. I think if the
- 9:05Speaker 2: administration came out today and said, hey, if he gets
- 9:07Speaker 2: to eight wins, we're keeping him. If they set that
- 9:09Speaker 2: hard line, or seven, or whatever the number is, I
- 9:12Speaker 2: think you would see more fans, maybe not openly. I
- 9:14Speaker 2: think more fans would in their mindset.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 2: God, I hope we don't win this game. Like I
- 9:18Speaker 2: do not like go ahead and take the L it's
- 9:21Speaker 2: a shitty situation for your fan, for your administration to
- 9:23Speaker 2: put you in that position to ever have to cheer
- 9:25Speaker 2: against your own team. Again, what TJ Pittenger or Tom
- 9:28Speaker 2: Hannafin or Cole Thompson cheers for really doesn't matter. We're
- 9:31Speaker 2: not the ones making tackles or blocks or catching touchdowns,
- 9:34Speaker 2: but yeah, the bigger picture conversation does come into play.
- 9:37Speaker 2: If they win this game, certainly they have had late
- 9:41Speaker 2: season collapses before. And so don't underestimate how that could happen.
- 9:46Speaker 2: If they were to win this game, you're going to
- 9:47Speaker 2: play pit without a quarterback. You're going to play NC state,
- 9:50Speaker 2: who I don't think is very good. Um, you're going
- 9:53Speaker 2: to play at Boston college. You're going to play Clemson
- 9:56Speaker 2: who that should be a good game just for all
- 9:58Speaker 2: intents and purposes. Um, going to play Florida, who I
- 10:01Speaker 2: think is still better than you, but has shown some vulnerabilities.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And if you could get anywhere close to shutting down
- 10:06Speaker 2: that run game, certainly you could win that game too.
- 10:09Speaker 2: So Missouri showed you that. So yeah, I think Florida State,
- 10:13Speaker 2: big picture, this game would do a lot for Mike
- 10:15Speaker 2: Norvell's tenure. I think if he won this game, he
- 10:18Speaker 2: would he would most likely be coming back.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Let me ask you, just humor me, because you just
- 10:22Speaker 3: said they have to get a certain number of wins
- 10:24Speaker 3: to guarantee that he's back. What if the fan base
- 10:26Speaker 3: was told tomorrow there's an announcement made, Mike Norvell is
- 10:29Speaker 3: not getting fired this year even if he were to
- 10:31Speaker 3: go 3-9? Is that when you say, okay, now we
- 10:33Speaker 3: need to start winning because I'd much rather watch winning
- 10:35Speaker 3: football than losing?
- 10:38Speaker 2: If that was like Etched in stone, like the 10 commandments?
- 10:41Speaker 4: Yeah, like the same thing. He has to get to
- 10:43Speaker 4: eight wins for him to be back.
- 10:44Speaker 3: He is guaranteed 2027, he will be the head coach
- 10:47Speaker 3: of the Florida State Seminoles.
- 10:49Speaker 4: At that point, you want to win.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Correct, yeah. Last year, they made the announcement after he
- 10:54Speaker 2: lost to NC State, and then you knew he was
- 10:57Speaker 2: coming back no matter what the result of the Florida
- 10:58Speaker 2: game was. Everyone wanted to win against Florida. Now, that's
- 11:02Speaker 2: a rival, so it is a little bit different. But, yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 2: I think most people would probably say, well, then if
- 11:07Speaker 2: that's the case, let's go try and get to Let's
- 11:10Speaker 2: try and get to 10 wins. Let's try and go
- 11:11Speaker 2: upset Miami. Let's get there, right? So yeah, I think
- 11:15Speaker 2: most people would say that. There would be a subset
- 11:18Speaker 2: of this fan base, and I'm not saying I fall
- 11:19Speaker 2: within this category. There would be a subset of this
- 11:21Speaker 2: fan base that says, I want it to get as
- 11:25Speaker 2: hellacious and bad and embarrassing, and I want no one
- 11:28Speaker 2: to show up to the games. If that's the decision
- 11:31Speaker 2: they're making, I want it to get so untenable that
- 11:35Speaker 2: next year is just miserable. I want Samson.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Pure hell.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Bringing down the temple on himself yeah that's what that's
- 11:43Speaker 2: what i think there would be a portion of the
- 11:44Speaker 2: fan base that if they were willing to make that
- 11:46Speaker 2: statement right now at three and two there would be
- 11:48Speaker 2: a portion of the fan base that would be like
- 11:50Speaker 2: nah like f them all you know like if they
- 11:53Speaker 2: don't care why should i care is probably the way
- 11:55Speaker 2: that could be interpreted a little bit nicer so yeah
- 11:58Speaker 2: but most people yeah if you're bringing them back they'd
- 12:00Speaker 2: say come on let's go let's go win games you
- 12:02Speaker 2: know let's let's try and hope that this turns around
- 12:04Speaker 2: the big problem for florida state is Norvell could legitimately
- 12:07Speaker 2: get to eight wins this year. I don't think it's likely,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but he could legitimately get to eight wins this year.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Do you feel any better about the future? Because you're
- 12:14Speaker 2: going to have a new quarterback next year. You're going
- 12:16Speaker 2: to have new wide receivers. You're going to have a
- 12:17Speaker 2: new offensive line. You probably should have a new defensive
- 12:20Speaker 2: coordinator because Tony White's just been complete ass. So there's
- 12:23Speaker 2: so much change that needs to happen. They're recruiting at
- 12:26Speaker 2: like 30th in the country right now. So it's not
- 12:28Speaker 2: like you're getting an influx of talent there. You need
- 12:30Speaker 2: to go big in the portal. Once again, hope that
- 12:32Speaker 2: works out. It's been mixed results. So that's the problem
- 12:36Speaker 2: is eight wins is going to save his job, but
- 12:39Speaker 2: it gives you no better feeling about the future at
- 12:42Speaker 2: Florida State. Same thing with Penn State last year, right?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Like James Franklin could have scraped his way to eight
- 12:47Speaker 2: wins last season. Would they finish with seven anyway? Like
- 12:50Speaker 2: maybe we could have gotten to eight. You wouldn't have
- 12:52Speaker 2: felt any better about the future. So it's the same
- 12:54Speaker 2: situation here at Florida State, in my opinion.
- 12:55Speaker 4: All right, let's make some predictions. Tom, what do you got?
- 12:59Speaker 1: Pick Louisville I think this is a situation where Braum
- 13:01Speaker 1: and company need it they need to stop the bleeding
- 13:03Speaker 1: not that they have you know grand aspirations we've said
- 13:07Speaker 1: it before they would pretty much have to you know
- 13:08Speaker 1: win out in their ACC schedule to get themselves to
- 13:12Speaker 1: Charlotte to get themselves to the playoff so I'm not
- 13:14Speaker 1: even thinking about that with either of these teams in
- 13:16Speaker 1: this game but I think Louisville needs to get this
- 13:19Speaker 1: one a little bit more than Florida State does give
- 13:21Speaker 1: me Louisville 41 27 oh I like that.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Score I just don't trust right now that you're going
- 13:27Speaker 3: to be able to win with the rushing attack of
- 13:29Speaker 3: Florida State enough to where you can say that Ashton
- 13:32Speaker 3: Daniels doesn't have to throw it. So eventually Ashton Daniels
- 13:34Speaker 3: is going to have to throw it. And as much
- 13:36Speaker 3: as I do think that there is just holes all
- 13:38Speaker 3: over this Louisville defense, it's a turnover and that turnover
- 13:42Speaker 3: can lead to points. And you still have one of
- 13:44Speaker 3: the more explosive offenses in the ACC with really good
- 13:46Speaker 3: weapons on the outside and a quarterback that I still
- 13:49Speaker 3: think he's playing at a high-end rate, despite the fact
- 13:51Speaker 3: that he hasn't been able to win. I think he
- 13:54Speaker 3: is a reason why the games have been close. If
- 13:56Speaker 3: you don't have a league of keynotes out there, I
- 13:58Speaker 3: think Wake Forest blows you on out. I think NC
- 13:59Speaker 3: State blows you on out. So this is a get-right
- 14:02Speaker 3: game back at home Friday night. I'm in agreement with Tom.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I go 38-20. I think that you're just going to
- 14:08Speaker 3: get a little bit more explosive plays from Trey Richardson
- 14:11Speaker 3: and company for the Cardinals to be able to win,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and they get back to 500.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I'll tell you, I have liked Louisville a lot all week.
- 14:19Speaker 2: That line moving the way that it is right now
- 14:22Speaker 2: very much worries me. If I'm Louisville or if I'm
- 14:27Speaker 2: Florida State, anti-Florida State. Because that line is stinky as heck.
- 14:31Speaker 2: As somebody who follows this program way too closely, I
- 14:36Speaker 2: don't know why that's three and a half points. And
- 14:39Speaker 2: Vegas is very good at what they do. That worries me.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I think this is closer. I'll give Florida State's offense
- 14:45Speaker 2: a little more credit, and I'll say this is like 34-28.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I do think it's a close game. I think it's
- 14:50Speaker 2: a good game on Friday night. But I don't have
- 14:53Speaker 2: enough confidence that Florida State wins their first road game
- 14:55Speaker 2: in three years. Maybe I'll be wrong, and then maybe
