- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, and welcome to another edition of the 9-Renoise podcast parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: He can ship you here at 9-Renoise.com.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: And here with me, fellow contributor.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to instruct us to do a little exercise.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about you, but where I am, it's starting to be spring slash summer already.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's very strange.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure what's happening, but how are you?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm good Robert, we have had in Chicago what they have liked to term the false spring, which is not.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: So it was really, I mean, was it really nice?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know objectively, it was fine, it was good.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: But it's,
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: it's not to last the weather has turned on us as always so we are we are back to normal now back to misery now it's nice for a week yeah it's almost aided degrees here today uh oh my god and uh all signs we might get like a we might get back into the forties a little bit but
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: like as we get closer to March, like it's pretty much it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but that's the South for you.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what else to tell you, but anyway, you did not come here for weather reports, and so we will not to bore you any further with that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is the off season, obviously.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: And we have,
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: some angles that we want to take.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: So what what we are going to do over the course of the next couple of weeks as we approach for agency, as we approach the draft, that have to be a little bit of a different animal that will take like after the initial pre-agency period gets rolling.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Although the NFL combine does start next week so that could be something that we'll we'll talk about a little bit in the lead up.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: The plan over the course of the next four episodes as we basically get into free agency is to talk about a couple of different angles.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Today we're going to talk about some trade possibilities.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Both big and small that the 49ers might be able to to make this off season to improve their team.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Next week we'll talk about internal free agents.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: So the people who players who are potentially on the way out.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about who we think should stay, who we think should go.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: and then sort of the other conversation about who we think will stay and go which could be two different lists.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: We got to that.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about external free agents, so players of the 49ers could go get given their current cap-room situation.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're not in a bad spot as of right now.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're like in top 10 I think in the league in in space and then after that we'll we'll take a look at the at a recap of for agency once it gets rolling initially that first wave is up into the middle of March
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that will take us right into draft season and then we'll roll right into that.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: So that is what we're going to do with the podcast over the course of the next couple of weeks.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Before we do that, we have some things that we need to talk about generally speaking.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oxia as we missed a sort of key bit of news that happened.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: I know we talked about a lot of different things last week, but we did not mention the key on white shooting.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: kind of a key thing, speaking of players who could have an impact on next year's team.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: So he was in a nightclub, was it the night, both after the Super Bowl or the night of the Super Bowl or something like that, gotten to an altercation, got shot in the ankle, which sounds like particularly painful.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not a lot down there, it's pretty much just like your bone.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: He seems to be doing fine, but, um,
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: gosh, like that's like real unfortunate and you've got to hope that it's not going to impact his long-term future with the team.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: I would think that this given the timeframe that he'll have plenty of time to recover, but not an ideal start to the offseason for the 49ers just by any stretch.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: No, not at all.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Not at all.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a bit of a scary situation, hopefully, seems like he's doing
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, weird.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Just, just weird.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw like one of those, um, I was like a joke sort of chart and I was like numbers of players shot on the team.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers have the most of anyone in the NFL.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Just crazy.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: But, um, you know,
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, I feel like, you know, of all the places to get shot, not like you want to get shot anywhere with the ankle feels like particularly bad, like that just goes right into your bone basically seals really like it would hurt a lot getting shot in general would probably have hurt a lot, but you don't know me.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that's that again, well, which is to key on and hope that he will be good to go, hope no long, long term repercussions there for him.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: The other bit of thing we talked about this last time in that it was.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: Suspected to be the case, but the Mexico City game has been confirmed.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Really just in terms of the fact that the forehand is giving up one of their nine home games next year.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: to host a game in Mexico City at the newly refurbished as tech stadium down there.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: No word yet on when the game is happening, I think Roger Gaddell intimated that December is the most likely outcome.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like closer to the end of the year for sure, no word yet, of course, on who the
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: who the opponent is, although we we speculated last time it seems also pretty likely that it's going to I would imagine this is probably a prime time game opportunity I believe it was Monday night the last time they went down there is that sound right.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think I think that's right, but so it seems like that's a likely outcome depending on who the Who the opponent is and all that kind of stuff, but we talked about it before Obviously this means another extra bit of travel because it's a home game that they're losing
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: there was something I think Peter Panesee posted, post an article, the Niners are set to like shatter the record for most miles traveled in the season.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: The number of the team thrown around I think is somewhere between 36 and 38,000 total miles of travel because not only did they have the Australia game, which is about 16,000, the losing a home game and going on the road, essentially even though it's a neutral site.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: That means that's more travel and then they're flying.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: They play in Atlanta.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: I know they play in New York.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Is that right?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's that's correct.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: They just have a bunch of like East Coast trips on top of everything else.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a lot.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like the the week the Australia game is happening week one.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: So you just hope that that doesn't have any long term impacts on the team, but it's certainly something to watch out for as the year goes along.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing about the Mexico City game that doesn't always get mentioned is that the elevation is insane.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: So like that impacts a game, but to some extent, you also worry about like, oh, like, how's that going to impact players the next week, you know, they're conditioning stuff like that.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a lot.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's, it is by no means like an easy season in that regards.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think,
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: One thing that if that would be really funny, I don't think that if I was going to do this.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: But it would be super funny to me if, um...
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: the seahawks off winning their Super Bowl don't get to start the season off because they're two division rivals right get the first game of the season in Australia that would be that would be hilarious to me I think it's not out of the room of possibility actually um because they what what was it they can't play on Friday right because of overlaps with college football or something like that at that point is that
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's high school football, but yeah, basically they have to play it's going to be I think I saw this was confirmed like a Wednesday Thursday game right and it's not clear yet who's playing on one day and who's playing on Thursday.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean like objectively you want I think it makes sense that the
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: The Super Bowl winner, so it'll be interesting, but I do think that, I don't know, just a little funny to me, if yeah, I'm here for it personally, but I'm the same, same here, I mean, and of course it will be.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: a day like if they play on Wednesday night it will be what Thursday afternoon or Thursday morning there right something weird like that or Thursday the whole day it's like it's what is it like it's a full day isn't it like almost exactly I think we should know this we've had Jeremy on the podcast multiple times we've had to face it out it's like it's more it's like 18 hours or something like that 15 yeah it's a lot it's a lot yeah
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: I imagine their training, if it is week one, and it seems like that's the way it's going, that their training camp will probably get cut short a little bit, you can imagine them leaving after the last preseason game so that they're out there for a extended period of time to get ready.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, at least give themselves what's the last preseason game preseason game was like what 10 days before the season starts usually.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: So you could imagine them like leaving as early as possible
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: you know, four or five days before the game is.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: So that way they have time to acclimate.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: But more on that soon, we'll talk to schedule.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be out in mid-May and we'll know specifics of it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: I imagine we'll know more about the Australia game.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: sooner than that, but we'll see how it goes.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: The last two bits of news are coaching related.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: One is incoming coach and one outgoing situation.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to the incoming first, and that is that Jerry Gray has reportedly joined in the team as the defensive backs coach.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Randy Bullocks, of course, was in that position for the last several years, and he went to Green Bay.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: For reasons, I guess.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And Gray joins the Marine Morse's staff there.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that they were both in Atlanta recently.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: So there's an experience.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like Gray is a pretty well-known and well-liked guy.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, I would say, the defense of back room has been kind of middling to, but it has its bright spots from time to time, and it's probably good to get a new voice in there and let this group of still very young players
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: like see if they can get another shot with a new guy.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I agree.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think I don't think there's any position outside of like running back and especially on the defense, like even defensive line, like Chris Coriseck gets something out of nothing, but by and large, I don't I don't think the defensive back room
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: You would think, oh, man, there's no way that like a fresh voice can be here, like, this is what works.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: So, make sense.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think it also makes sense.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: And so far, is where he Morris probably getting a little more say over deciding what the what his defense of staff will look like gets a chance to bring to the guy knows.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really see how this will be so much of a negative.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully, fresh voice, some fresh technique can re-vitalize a position group that I think has been very inconsistent for the 49ers the last few years.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's some players in there, I think, but they just need to, the youth, I think, has really hit them.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you think about it, Diamond Orlanor is the oldest guy in that group, and he's,
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: been in league with five years, something like that six years, so it's not, he's not, in the rest of them are either heading into your two or your three, I will drive around the thing is for, but not not long.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're still relatively young guys, so something to watch there for sure.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: The other bit of news is that the Seattle Seahawks have coached a coach from the Niners staff to be their new offensive coordinator and that.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: is kind of surprising.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think Brian Flurry, who's been the Titan's coach for the last couple of years, will be heading to Seattle to run their offense after Colint.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: I got the right.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: Clint is the one that went to the narrator's right.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: I get them confused.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Clay is in San Francisco still.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: Clint Kuviac goes to the head coach of the Raiders, and so he's being replaced by Brian Flurry.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: very interesting move right flurry has been I think done a good job with a tight in-room that outside of George Kittle has been a bunch of guys that have in some ways not been terribly successful but I think last year was a pretty good pretty good step up for him you got a lot out of Jake Tondis and which is not something that we've seen that secondary guy really step up and be a big contributor like that.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Some of it was because Kittle was out for extended periods.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so he kind of had to.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: But Nana, a guy with any play calling experience.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to step pretty big step up from running a single room to running a whole offense.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: It will be very interesting to see what his philosophy is.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would imagine.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: if he's going up there that he that that might McDonald sees some connection between what Kubieck was doing and what he expects Flurry to do with the offense kind of maintains some
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: some consistency with that group for Sam Darnold and them.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so, interesting move.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little surprised that they're going that direction and not with somebody with experience having done this.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, does it, it feels a little bit like what the Eagles did after they won.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: They are super bowl where they were forced into a change and made a move for a guy who didn't really like elevate the offense.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be interesting to watch how that turns out.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: And just I actually have a very different perspective.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think this makes total sense.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think McDonald poached the Shanahan tree.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the answer you want to run, right?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in that way, given the fact that like, there wasn't really other Shanahan coordinators, I think out there to hire.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right, let's see what I want to go to Kubiak to Kubiak.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: Well, no, right, but the Niners wouldn't let.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's true.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's an officer.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think they would have hired clay if they could, but they couldn't because clay was not allowed to to interview for offense, coordinating positions, even where he could play call.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think in that sense, it makes a lot of sense for them in terms of getting the scheme.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can imagine they could have theoretically wanted to get Matt LaFlor, which one is Arizona's head coach now?
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: Matt.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: Matt.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: So they could have like the mats now ahead coach, you know, like there's such a loss of talent and so far as like all the people who have play calling or getting like post type of killing head coaches.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: that this, like, this really makes sense to me.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think Flurry got more involved and sort of like game planning.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much the loss it is for the 49ers, but I'll be interesting.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think all the things you mentioned are right, like you don't know what he's gonna look like and sort of like how that offense is gonna adjust.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't, I'm not expecting to see any major differences.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think Seattle's offense was like fine to good
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: It has, it'll be stylistically very similar, but it'll be interesting for sure to see how it plays out.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think I definitely agree with that portion.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's more of the, how does he move over from a guy who hasn't had any responsibilities on, in terms of play calling to the guy who's responsible for that, will be very interesting to see.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that was more of the, like, the Eagles comparison.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know that was more of a bigger, like,
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: C change in terms of what they wanted to do offensively, but still, like moving, giving a guy his first play calling opportunity in a situation like that where expectations will be high, like coming off the Super Bowl championship, it's just very interesting something to watch for sure.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I also say like, I'm also with you like, I mean, George Kittle, uh, I don't know if you saw he says, uh, one, one word response to the to him leaving was sad, uh, uh, never changed George, never changed.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but yeah, I don't, I don't know if this is like a, you want, I mean, who knows?
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not an NFL locker room.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the, what the impacts of us of a special, or of a position to coach our,
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: in some cases, but I have no doubt that the Kyle Shanan will find another guy to run that situation.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, there's anything that we missed in terms of set-up stuff before we get into the trade nonsense.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, I guess so.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not really, no sort of sort of just uh, mentioned this only in passing,
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, thinking about trades and like free agency like Miami, cut bait with a couple veterans, you know, you know, teams are gonna, I think the landscape is gonna change a lot from when you listen to this app.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: When we like talk about this, to when you listen to this episode, to when the Niners actually start making moves.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I think, I don't know, just flagging that.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think they'll be really interesting to see.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's just that there's a lot going on in terms of,
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, how our team is going to change sort of like who's going to be available?
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Who's not?
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's neat.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Just like I thought it was a pretty big it was like an expected thing that Miami would cut Tyre Kill and Bradley Chum.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's still surprising when you see it happen because it's like whoa, like that's not no one, right?
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: These are like, yeah, those are both players who like, if you can like,
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: things aside right with like the question the questions of signing them like they're going to make an impact for any team in the NFL so I don't know just like that not really trades but that was pretty
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, but also, I mean, also good things to keep in mind that depending on when you're listening to this, like things change pretty rapidly in the NFL, the good news about this particular episode is I don't think any of these things are going to go down in the next couple of weeks because I think there's going to be a
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: People start going, hey, what do you think about this?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: Or, hey, what do you think about that?
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that will begin.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's usually when we see like the conversations around trades begin to kind of percolate.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: But, and then even then, it's just like the frameworks of trades can be worked out that can actually be finalized until the lead gear kicks in.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: But, all right, so let's go ahead and get into it.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to start with a big voice first, or should we start with smaller stuff?
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go small to big because I think,
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the bigger names we have in mind, it's really like you're only going to get one of them, but I do think the Niners will be able to like swing a trade for some of these smaller names we have, while still potentially trading for a bigger name that we have on the list.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all right.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll notice this is pretty defense heavy.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: That should come as no surprise.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Given the state of the defense, just as an explanation.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: So what I did, so this is, I'm really like buying from, this is something you'll see in other sports like in international soccer, baseball, teams will do this a lot where it's like a big deal about like expiring contracts or a pretty big deal.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: And teams are all about getting value for players and they paid X for this and they want to get something back in return.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And football, you don't often see value returned obviously because value players changes in the way that trades work is usually like draft picks for players and it's hard to really judge that.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: but it is something to kind of think about there.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: So what I did was I went into over the cap and I look at guys who will be heading into the final years of deals.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: So this is not like there's plenty of guys who will be on void years next year that means that they're not gonna be on that team.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: So they'll already be available in for agency.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: But these are guys who will essentially be heading into their final year of their contracts.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: on the current team.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start at the bottom, and this guy is mostly interesting because he has a remorse connection, and really there's a need at this position to kind of solidify some things here, and that's a divine Diablo linebacker for the Falcons.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: He will be turning 28 in August.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Just sort of a
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Not a superstar by any stretch in the imagination, but a decently solid inside linebacker, somebody who could potentially slide in next or Fred Warner or possibly be the third linebacker.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: in based-down kind of situations.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: I can't imagine that he'd be very costly, like I said, he's gonna be 28 in August for the season starts was a Seahawks draft pick.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Only been in Atlanta for one year, and so I don't know how much more us really got to know him, but that is something that's there, and I think certainly a position of need for me.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gonna like,
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: blow the roof off the thing, but I think the kind of move that you were talking about like an on the edge type of not literally, but on the on the on the fringes type of player who could come in and upgrade a room, but not be terribly costly.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think I think one of the things that we're going to expect to see different
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: with morse's defense, then the way solid does defense is that you're going to see a lot more linebackers coming up to the line of scrimmage and Diablo sort of really helps you with that aspect of it.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big body.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's athletic and he sort of lets you sort of fit runs and passes in that way that he more likes to do.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it makes total sense.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it'll be too expensive
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's a couple players in free agency who might also fill this role.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think Kate and Alice is the main one people are like talking about, but by and large, like I think we're going to get one Raheem Morris fan like type line back her on this team and I think Diablo could totally be that option for this team.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you think about if there's a characteristic to the line backing group that's going
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: names are totally escaping me.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: D-winters and Nick Martin.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: Not the biggest group.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Not a lot of size there.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure the tune was a converted.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Defense it back is that that sounds right to me and that's kind of their embo.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like smaller quicker guys And I think he's gonna like Reemorce is gonna want somebody else who's just like a thumper There's just like a bigger guy and I that that's why Diablo kind of jumped out of me like here's a guy He could who could definitely be that not that he won't appreciate Nick Martin or D Winters I think he'll appreciate there, you know, especially Winters the hair and fire thing, but
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: you could certainly see a position there.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that isn't necessarily have to be a trade, but this is the type of move that they tend to make, especially as the season goes along.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this won't be something they do immediately, but you could imagine camp opens, and they say, oh, we need some depth here.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go get a guy and Raheem Morris knows him.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, next name on my list is a, well, actually I'm going to skip to the other line back in the other word,
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: inside linebacker is Jordan Brooks from the from the dolphins.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: He will be 29 and October so about halfway through season, but boy howdy this boy this guy is a tackling machine.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: He had 183 tackles last year, which led the league.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's not even his career high access in total tackles was an all first team all pro last year pretty notable.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: And if you just
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: player like he's played pretty much every game that he's been in the league for missed much time.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's been consistently a 120 plus tackle guy.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: This might be a little bit more expensive, but I think the age and the expiring contract might help the forehand is a little bit.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a move that if you're going, if for he Moore's walks in there and goes, I don't want any of these other landbackers except for a friend Warner, like get me somebody else, like who can be a guy next to him.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: I can see them making a big, a slightly bigger splash here
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: like a conditional seventh rounder type of six or seventh rounder.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be a little bit costly or maybe like a third or fourth rounder.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just just spitting here.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to be, it's going to make some noise.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think it would be a bigger, bigger style move.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I hear what you're saying.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: I however am not on the Jordan Brooks train.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: So like
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's an example of like tackle inflation in my opinion, essentially wearing like you get a guy who's like he's good right don't get me wrong.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great player, but he like mostly is like wraps plays up and I like I don't know.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think linebacking has advanced from there to the point where that's not really what you're looking for part of my like hesitation is that you know,
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: Mike McDonald and the Seahawks cut bait with him.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think in Lars Park to get Ernest Jones and you can just see the defense change when they made that change.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: So like I do think the reasons why the Niners might get him, I totally agree with.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right, for he Morris is like, this lineback in group doesn't work for me and we need a different like face and different like personality, essentially a different style.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: makes sense, but I don't think the draft capital unless it's really incidental, which I don't think it will be like you mentioned, it'll be slightly more expensive, doesn't feel worth it for me, because I don't think, like, tackling the victim, don't get me wrong, but I think a guy of more like D winters and so far as you have a little more of that opportunity for those splash big plays in the vein of trade green law, like that's a little more for
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: to me.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I also think that like his value is inflated because of that all pro.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: And those tackle numbers and like it's not really commiserate with his play in the way that um like well, two things.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: One like a Fred Warner was healthy, right?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be a 17-year-old pro player.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: And butter.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: So like in that, well, so, and I'm not taking anything away from Jordan Brooks.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a great player.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think like he's a very important part of the team.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: At that cost, that's the player who, like, really helps change this defense.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather spend that they're going to pick elsewhere around the team.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately, just like flagging him as if if this is a if they if this is a position, they decide to make a splash on and I I'm not sure that it should be as we'll get into in just a little bit.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: that would be a direction they could go for sure.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm not sure that the the the off ball linebacker guys are really the main area.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can live with the group that you have if you shore up the guys in front of them and the guys behind them that what they have is probably solid enough that you could bring in a guy like Diablo or another free agent guy that can do very similar things and probably feel pretty good about it generally speaking.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so let's talk edge wrestlers.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: There are two slightly lesser names.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, lesser in terms of production in maybe cost.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then one other bigger name, but that probably has some red flags on it.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: The first name that I meant that I'm going to go with is Nolan Smith from the Eagles has been decent.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: option for them, definitely similar to just kind of a depth guy, he had six and a half sacks and 16 games, two seasons ago, and then three sacks in 12 games last year.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: He is only 25, which is a great benefit to him, but you gotta wonder what their interest in keeping him around is.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: They seem to like turn out these guys on the regular and then
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: eventually they flame out and we end up with like a briself type of situation and you wonder if that's what they're looking to do because it doesn't strike me it's like a guy they're going to pay a lot of money to.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah so that's exactly sort of my question is like is this like a briself sort of deal?
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like I will say I thought briself was fine.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he got cast in a position he's like clearly not.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah for sure.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know and that like it like
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: You have to sort of, you have to know what you're getting into when it comes to like getting these guys.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he, no one Smith would be a guy who you rotate in and they need that right.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we were literally, we spent most of if not all of the, of the season talking about, wow, they really need like, capable NFL bodies on the defensive line.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm just like,
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: the age, the fact that like Philly does not really have a need to get rid of him, you know, they can always like keep that death themselves.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: It makes me worried that
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: again, like the price would be too high for the role he could really fit.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm and also like, I do think, obviously, you can't, you can't like guarantee any player any snaps, but I think it's important that Michael Williams gets on the field, you know, and like, yeah, you get him past research opportunity.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not so sure.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: I like, but I think the sentiment is right, like a player like a rotational edge rusher in the vein of Brice
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: who like act, you actually keep as a rotational adressor.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think is an important fit for this team.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, an ideally Bryce Huff actually just becomes that guy next year that Bosa and Williams are healthy enough that Bryce Huff can be the guy that they anticipated he was going to be when they traded for him.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: But again, just like with the Diablo thing, this feels like the type of move that they're not necessarily no one's myth, but the type of player they're going to almost
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: certainly grab somewhere even if it's in free agency.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: The other name on this list before we get into those sort of slightly bigger names, we're going to take a bigger step up.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: This would have been, I think, a bigger deal last year, but that is Germaine Johnson, the second, another address here from the Jets.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of talk at the trade deadline or leading up to the trade deadline.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't make it that far.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: or he did not survive the entire season with some injuries.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Only had three Saxon-14 games, he had seven and a half and 17 games in 2023.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: He is going to be 20, or you just turn 27, so a little bit older.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think this made a lot more sense when Robert Solow was around because he knew him.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm this feels like a classic.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to cost them too much because the name recognition.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not sure it's the, I mean, and he would have to be willing to accept a very rotational role if he came.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's exactly right.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think it's, you're not like at the, like so, you know, it's hard to compare it, but like let's just like the 49 Australia second round pick for D de forward right back in 2018, 2019.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like that sort of my, like if you're trading a third round pick, you know, like you're stepping down a bit from like D4, but that still should be a starter for you and I'm just not so sure that like German Johnson would start for this on this defensive line and is at that level impact for team that, you know,
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: Depth is important for this team, but as we're gonna, I think get to when we talk about some of these bigger names, they really need like a couple more difference makers, right?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like guys who move the needle, particularly at, like Ed's Russia too, you know?
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I so, I totally agree with you, I think it's an interesting name, it's someone who, like, if the price is right, I mean, for all of these guys, if the price is right, you make the deal,
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I have a hard time seeing it happening.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now I do think out of the names we've mentioned, he might be the most likely to move because the jets are horrible.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: The jets are a mess, and therefore, like, who knows who they're keeping in, well, who's part of the Exodus, but I'd still think, I don't know if the Niners are the ones to hop into that, per se.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the one other thing that I would say specifically about Johnson is the situation the trade, specifically the jumps out to me is the chase young deal.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's a situation like that, now I know that happened at the trade deadline.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: That would be the kind of thing where you bet low on a guy who has some skill, and hope that you can get the best out of him, obviously, that did not work out with the Chase Young Situation, but that's the little one that jumps out to me.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that doesn't happen till the trade deadline, but if you can talk the Jets into something like that, then I think that's a different kind of talk all together.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the right way to think about some of these
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: What's the best case of the guy you're getting in like what's the worst case and you kind of just balance it out from there and I think with Johnson it's just
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not super clear to me at like what I expect the jets to want to get for him.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: That that best case is like good enough.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that you're going to say it's not super clear what the jets are doing.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: But that's been.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's been the case for a long time.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: That is definitely true.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: But well, but in this case, like,
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's also not clear, like, do the jets are the jets really trying to re-bent.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be bad.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be bad again.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just be clear about this.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: Aaron Glenn, we hope you survive as long as you possibly can, man.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's all we got to say.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how you survived the off season frankly with all the coach coaches like I fired but not the nonetheless Speaking of the New York teams, the next name on the list is when we're starting to up the ante a little bit in terms of names.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he I guess those those four guys that we named first are like the the third tier I think this guy kind of exists on a second tier all by himself probably you can
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: You can correct me if you think that's incorrect.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: But that is Kavon Tivoto, the addresser from the jet still be entering his fifth year in the NFL, which means he is going to be on that fifth year option.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: This season, his year last year was cut short with a shoulder injury.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: He also missed five games in 2024.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: Production has been, you know, pretty, you know, he had a kind of slow rookie season played in 14 games at four sex.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Big breakout year in 2023 set play the full season 11 and half sex.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, five and a half sacks and 12 games in 24, just two and a half in 2025.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: It was a lingering shoulder issue that kept him out of the game.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise known as we are terrible and are not going to push it any further for the jets or for the giants at that particular point.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, an interesting name to watch.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was in conversation last summer as like a guy who could be traded from a bad team to help a good team out.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: You got to think with a shoulder injury, that's certainly something to watch, especially for an eddresser, but if they've set up down 10 games in the season last year, you got to hope that whatever issue has been resolved.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: But again, in maybe a second tier all by himself, in that he's probably not going to be guaranteed to be the game-changing guy that you think.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: The question is, is there value to be found in making a move for a guy like this?
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: So to answer the question, I don't know, the answer the second question, yes, 100% 100% they should make a move for him.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the reason being that this is where upside kind of plays in.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the thing about the giants that they have three edgebrushers now, Brian Burns is phenomenal.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know,
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: The nanners totally like that was a just a no swing in a miss on that one.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, by not I'm going for the anyway Brian Burns really good not going anywhere Abdul Carter who's had some like I don't know there have been claims that like he misses practice In people like you know who knows I think, but they have three people who can start in two starting positions and I really do think they're going to sort of figure out
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: separate the week from the chat, so to speak.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the case.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: You can get this opportunity to sort of buy low for what is only like one year essentially, right?
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's one year, then you reassess.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think Tibido has that upside you mentioned his great year.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: you get him into a system with a coach who can coach him up in Chris Corsek where he's surrounded by, you know, Nick Vosa, and I think there's a lot of opportunity here.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it really depends on what the giants are looking for for him, right?
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is where third round pick, pull the trigger, like, but if they're looking for out of note, like a high two and a three, like something,
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like something that's a little more indicative of like his future potential and not his current performance, then you start to get a little worried, especially because as we'll get to some of the names later down, I think they're players for whom you can justify that because you know they're going to produce no matter what and that's not like you don't have that luxury of assumption with tip of those so I don't know, but I really do think.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: At the picks and things we've been mentioning right now, you make that trade because there's there's so much here right there's so much opportunity that it's like this is like the chase young trade I think in so far as oh what is the like what is the chance that we'll get someone you know big we can get like a real difference maker.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he and Germaine Johnson came out of that same draft.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: Tip it, it was the number five overall pick for the Giants.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Germaine Johnson, number 26, both have had their fifth or options picked up.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be about $16 million for the 49ers if they were to make that trade.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's, they got room, like the brand-new contract coming off the books and some other things, some other dead money things that will be coming off.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not an inordinate.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: amounts.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, I think you're right, like the difference between Tibbito and Germain Johnson is we saw him be dominant granted for one season.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other in the two seasons since then have been a little little injuries, little underperformance.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: But you saw it.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like right, like it's it's clearly there.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: Germain Johnson kind of makes you got your head and go, why hasn't he ever been better than he had than he should have been?
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think to me that's the big difference.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: He could be a guy that you slot in to where they wanted Bryce Huff to go and then all of a sudden Bryce Huff is your fourth guy on the edge and you're like, okay, now we're cooking, right?
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh yeah, and I think so.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think like, I don't know, I think it's a different class of player really.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that to me, that's enough to be like all right, time to like time to really reconsider what,
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: what like how much you're willing to give up because I really do think it'll make a huge difference for this.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: I just think the upside is so much higher and like the downside is not nearly as high as some of these other names we've we've yeah we've mentioned yeah also just turned 25 and December so on the younger side as well so I mean I imagine this is not a sign-in trade or a trade-in sign situation I think you have to let him play out the option
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: and see if the fit works and if he's, if he's, like, motivated by not playing for a team that's terrible, for example, I don't know, like maybe that would help.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right, speaking of big compensation pieces, it's the last defense of Guy on our list and it's the big, the big name.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that's Max Crossby.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Max with two X's because
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: I guess he'll he'll be 29 before the season starts turn 29 and August has been with the Raiders' entire career was a hold on a fourth round draft pick from the Raiders in 2019 has been very productive six and a half sacks roughly ten and a ten twenty seven sacks per season.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: for 17 games, is how the football reference is marking it, has been five times a proble or was second in defensive rookie the year voting has been a second team all pro twice one and then defensive player the year voting fourth and sixth in consecutive seasons
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: four years where he's had over ten sacks of the rest of the seasons his lowest output is seven.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I mean, everybody knows the name.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: He has pretty much made it clear that he is not planning on playing for the Las Vegas Raiders ever again after they basically shut him down last year.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they said it was an injury.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: He said there wasn't an injury.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it feels like that relationship is pretty well fried.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he, um, yeah, it's, it's a, it's a, it's an interesting situation.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's obviously not a, not a good, good football team.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they're at the number one overall pick for a reason.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he has, I was just going to look at this up.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, one more year left on his deal.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: He'll also, well, technically he has, um, several,
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: uh... let's out his guaranteed money is done after this year which of course might change uh... the situation with with that uh... in terms of what that trade looks like but uh... yeah just signed a a new deal in twenty twenty five uh... it's interesting uh... or he they they extended him in twenty twenty five sorry uh... it's an interesting situation um... what do you think i'm sure
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think there's a report from Adam Shefters sort of saying that the price for Crosby is two first-round picks and like a premium player.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's not unreasonable, right?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is like a top low-ass estimation.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this is probably like an under sale.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: Top 10, um, adrossier than I found, right?
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: So that makes perfect sense.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: However, that's,
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's not nothing.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's really the issue here is that, um, like he's phenomenal, right?
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: He is one of the few players in the league who I think you could really potentially argue is as good if not better than Nick Bosa.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as that's good if not better than Nick Bosa, and you added to your team on the defensive line.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big deal, right?
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's, that's a game-changing adjustment.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think every team at the NFL wants and the
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it's really a matter of, are you going to pay him, you know, the contract that he desires?
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because, you know, as you said no guaranteed money, there's probably going to be a renegotiation and extension.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to have to pony up.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then the second question is, can you afford that biggest swing?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm I'm really split.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think at two firsts in the premium player, he's worth it, but are the Niners in a position where that second Ed rusher is going to be the thing that helps them the most.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not so sure.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think it might be true.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: I like.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's really where I get a little like, oh man, I'm not I'm not 100% so, but it's not it's not because of the player,
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: Because this is that like is that move right in this player on this team is that the next is that the final piece.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I mean, I think it would help.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like you get, yeah, okay, those two micro Williams in your down there as a, you know, as you're like rushing defensive tackle, maybe even like, like, yeah, there's a lot of that can be.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: one of the best pass rushes and that level of password can win super goals.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: That just goes without saying.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: As you can see, I'm a really torn.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's the one.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's a place.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Micaparsons deal, essentially what they're looking for.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is this is the Micaparsons is three years younger than then the max
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: And, and to be fair, slightly more decorated, now some of that is difficult to tell, like, Krauseby has been on some really bad, Raider's teams, and so probably doesn't get quite the attention that he should be getting.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that Michael Parsons wasn't on, like, the Dallas teams that he was on were not great, but it's still the Cowboys.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Regardless of if I look at it, um,
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm with you on that, like this, like the defense clearly needs a massive jolt and the thought of like Matt Scrosby and Nick Bosa on the same defensive line and then Fred Warner behind them and then
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you just coach up the defensive backs a little bit like we know this that's this team's ammo right like this is get the defensive line right and if not that it doesn't matter who your secondary players are but you're less concerned about who your secondary players are because frankly your defensive line is kicking everybody's butt and that's the way to do it and it you know it is proved to be to be a solid plan just look at Seattle now they have players
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's there's something to be said for you make this defense of line that formidable and it's going to and you could do get by with even if your offense takes a dip.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's concerning I to be frank I'm not I'm not sure I think the only thing that gets that would get them this deal is is the fact that he has years left on its contract.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: If I remember correctly, Michael Parsons had to, like they extended him immediately because of the nature of his situation.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: The packers did.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: He was heading into your five, so they kind of had to make a deal.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: Max Krausby will probably get an extension slash rework of the deal that will get him some guaranteed money.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: It will be a different situation.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, is it, well, one, I'm not sure the 49ers have a player.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, that's really what it is.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they get two ones.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think, if it were a one and a two, I think we're talking, but I also don't think they have a player that's going to be interesting to, like if Brandon and I equire tradable at this point, I think that's a conversation you could start to have.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: But there's just no way, like the Raiders are just not going to do it.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like he can't be trusted.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the guy.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like if he used the Parsons deal, right, Kenny Clark is like a phenomenally good defensive tackle.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like that's a probal level player that the Packers traded along with two first.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: For Parsons, who's like as for all the reason you said is a bit different in terms of what
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: what the requirements would be and sort of like, why is Valley might be higher?
- 50:54[SPEAKER_00]: But like, yeah, like I don't see the 49ers hit.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have someone like that who you wouldn't think that like is already too important for this team.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like, I mean, really the only guy in the defensive line who gets you even remotely close to that.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: is um, isn't it supposed to, but it doesn't.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: So like, and then like after that, it's just, this kind of goes to the point we've been, they just like, they don't have those like difference makers in the same way.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think because of that, it's, there's not enough of like, oh valuable youthful town that you like,
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: You can sort of swing this on or like establish bets who are like really good, but not quite good and not, I don't know, I just, I don't see it.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I just don't see them being able to make a trade that if it involves players as well.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, I'm with you, it's certainly if the player thing the player thing is going to be the hold up I'm not sure that I would do to first either I think you have to factor in his age a little bit and be like it's this is not like a Parsons like no offense to max grass, but he's not like a Parsons.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't, he hasn't quite had had quite the impact.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's a very good player and he would make a, there's an excellent player and he would make a massive difference on this team, but it's a little bit of a different situation.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, the last name on the list is one I was told that I'm not allowed to talk about by some random,
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: Minnesota Vikings fan on the internet because he's not going anywhere guys so that's what I was told.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: I've given it away of course by now and that of course is Widersever Justin Jefferson.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: Jefferson currently in the midst of a contract extension that he signed back in 2023 I believe.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: 2024, sorry.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: that pays him, he just like Max Crosby will be out of guaranteed money after 2026.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: He has a $25.75 million guaranteed, nearly $40 million against the cap, $38 million, $39 million basically against the cap in 2026 and then some ludicrous numbers,
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then one void year in 2029, he is 27 years old, just will be 27, sorry, in June, so nearing that number.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we need to say a whole lot about how good Justin Jefferson is, but the one thing that jumps out to me.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: is the fact that he had JJ McCarthy playing quarterback for him last year and still had 84 catches for a thousand and 48 yards.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: It is his second worst season in terms of receptions.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: He had 68.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: That was in 10 games in 2023 by the buy.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: Played all 17 games this year and that is his lowest yardage outcome was the thousand and 48 and also just two touchdowns for a pretty
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: bad Vikings team, specifically on offense last year.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oksha, should we save Justin Jefferson from the Minnesota Vikings?
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's really a question if the Vikings are willing to move in.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think if he is on the market, it is like malpractice for the 40 minutes, and I get it.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he is
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: everything that they want to bring to now you to be, which goes without saying because they want to bring to now you to be a phenomenal receiver and Jessica Jefferson is the best one in the NFL.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: I like he's he's he's game changing.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's game changing in every way possible.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: I there's no world in which the 49ers should not try to make that move.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think the real
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I start the conversation, like, two first and Mac Jones and then from there, you start, like, you start, like, haggling a little bit and seeing what, but like, you, I, I would kitchen sink this really, like, he, um,
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: This offense, right?
- 55:27[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers' offense, the defense was whatever, right?
- 55:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, but there's a lot of problems there.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: But the reason why we were optimistic at the end of the year was because we thought the 49ers' offense put like make a run.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what Seattle rudely showed in two games is that the 49ers didn't have speed and didn't have someone who stressed the top of Seattle's defense.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: So Seattle just basically could crash down
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: and do whatever they wanted, and that's what they did, and they completely suffocated the 49ers.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: Now you put Justin Jefferson there, that's not happening anymore.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: He like, he makes this entire, he would make the entire offense make sense.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, like, you know, hopefully,
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones and you you get you like it's really a question of what what the Vikings be looking for because I think the Niners should absent Bosa Warner perty kiddo rationale Bosa Warner perty and Trent Williams There's not a person on this team who I would say you don't like
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: you don't consider trading for just Jefferson.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: If that's part of the deal necessary, like it's, he's one of one in a way that like, those guys just don't come on the market very often.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was trying to look and see like what the last major trade for a wider silver was
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's some names on here.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: that will, that, that kind of jump out of you, like last, last year, DK Metcalf was traded to Pittsburgh, he went from, from Seattle to Pittsburgh for a six round pick and a 20 in a, in a second round pick and a seventh round pick.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a lot of picks, but nothing like terribly like that deal, which would obviously never happen.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: But you like run, run to the airport and try to see if you can beat
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: whoever it is to Minnesota to get that deal done.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: George Pickins was third round fifth round six rounds.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, sorry, a third round and a fifth round for Pickins and a six round.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, sorry, the Metcaptic was Metcath and a sixth round pick for a second round and a seven
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like you have to, like I'm just kind of like searching through names here and like even the names that jump out to you like nothing like Devante Adams was shaded from the jets to the Raiders for a third round pick.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody, obviously, those players, well, they're not all of them.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think Devont Adams is a very good player.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: Probably in his prime approaching what Justin Jefferson is.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: But like a guy like Justin Jefferson just doesn't get traded so much to the point that there's nothing, I can't comp it with anything, right?
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like we have no idea where this conversation could start.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: And of course it has to start with
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: Minnesota being like, you know what, Jason McCarthy actually not good.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and so we're not going to link let Justin Jefferson language here for while we figure this out.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's where it had where it had to start right.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's just it's not going to happen.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like the reality is not going to happen.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you're crushing your dreams here, actually.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I wish it were, but like.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I don't know, like, the problem is like, divante atoms, Hall of Fame receiver, not treated in this prime.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Julio Jones, Hall of Fame receiver, not treated in this prime.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: Take a Metcalf in George Pickens, very good receivers, not at the same level.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, and both kind of locker room cancer guys.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, exactly, right?
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the other big thing, right?
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, you know, the AJ Brown trade, I think, you, like, there's just not good comparables, like you said,
- 59:52[SPEAKER_00]: like I thought so I think the answer is yes, right?
- 59:56[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever, by the other percent, whatever the Vikings want.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you trade.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_00]: But like you don't use you down, it's not the comparables is just so like we don't know what that would take, but if they were like, hey, like we want this, I'm almost saying like almost universally, be like, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, that's side of the guys that you that you listed for sure.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think the question then becomes, oh, um, you know, what, what, what, what, would they trade them?
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's just what they trade them.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't, I don't, I don't think so.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_00]: I hope so, but I don't think so.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, again, I think if the, the difference between this and the cross be thing to me, um,
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're both guys that are under contract that are massive benefits, I think the age thing obviously is the big difference there.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_01]: And just, you know where the Raiders are and they're in their rebuild situation, their number one overall pick, Max Krausby is pretty much made a clear he doesn't want to play for them anymore.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_01]: Justin Jefferson too, he's great credit, in spite of how
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_01]: like poorly last year went has been and he's really been a pretty like a good soldier with them regardless of what the situation has been, you know, and they were really good 24 wasn't talking wasn't making a big stink out of last year either.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it would be like absolutely the most exciting thing to happen to this team in like non-superbowl addition in the decade probably.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it like immediately, because there's still problems on the defense that need to get fixed, but it's certainly catapult to them into a different stratosphere of this league, and they're already pretty good.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it takes the defense from being like, oh, the defense needs to like, do stuff, right?
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you can't have the, like, it like, it makes what they were doing to like,
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_00]: Philip reverses cults and like, I don't know, another team they played around them.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're just like, why are these nissor pretty pretty this pretty good.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_00]: But like, it makes that like you kind of almost expect that and that's really 2023 and sort of how it looks and like that that's good enough.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_00]: That puts you at the ability to compete with the powers that be in the NFC on a more consistent basis.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think the reality was the Niners just didn't have the horses to compete the way that they needed to at the end of the day with all the entries and defense.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then just offensively like it was a good offense.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't a great offense in larger than it because they didn't have like a game-changing receiver.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, I, I really, like, it's, I, it's, I, I, I'm speechless because it is exactly what this team needs and there's no way of never going to be.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's, I don't think it's never going to happen.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think this is the year that it happens.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think the Vikings need to tremendously fall on their face again.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think it starts to go, oh, okay.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_01]: This is really not working.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: I fully anticipate them letting JJ McArthur get another run, like because they were so adamant about the fact that it was gonna work.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then it really didn't, but you can also be like, well, we kept getting hurt and it wasn't a great, it's just like, okay.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like if, I feel like this conversation could happen again next year,
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_00]: If they're bad again, yeah, that's probably right.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably right, but, um, although the division's no fun for them.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it's, it's a, I like, I don't know what, like, I don't know.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I, there's a world in which, Justin Jefferson gets treated.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just not so sure if the 49ers are on.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's going to align with the 49ers, like what I feel so really I think they need to like kill this draft right like the 49ers do and they need to like and like a much better way frankly than they did last year last year was a bad but like they need like superstar star level players out of this draft because that gives them so much more like leeway to like move these picks.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: I still think the depth of this team.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's not at a level high enough to justify some of these traits right now and like just in Jefferson, you sort of get okay with it because he is so much better than anyone you're going to draft those picks.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like if you're drafting a wide receiver you're drafting a wide receiver to be as good as Justin Jefferson and I think given the way that the cap is now sort of cleaned up for this team there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to, you know, make this like, you know, make this
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_00]: make this make this like make this commitment to him.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, I hope it happens.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it will last, but I hope so.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_01]: Here's how we can stream.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, according to over the cap at this particular past juncture, 40 just over 41 million dollars in cap space.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think the number is going to be higher than that in the end.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they'll move some money around it on that kind of stuff.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_01]: But, um, yeah.
- 1:05:33[SPEAKER_01]: Brock pretty is money really starts to kick in next year.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit, he jumps up to 20, he's a 24 million dollar cap, cap hit, Brock pretty after being nine last year.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_01]: So really fun stuff.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, yeah, I think all all those things are right.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk more about all those things in the coming weeks.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, next week, we're going to get into the internal free agents of which there are many and talk about what the 49ers should do with their utils and possibly gobs of cap space.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_01]: And how they could maybe make this team better by bringing some guys back.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oxa doesn't any final thoughts on this one before we wrap it up.
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_00]: I hope one of these trades happens.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think they need to trade for someone.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_00]: Get the first blood on this team.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully it's JJ.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it'll be a reward.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say, if you had to pick one of those top two guys, what do you think is the more?
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's what you want.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_01]: Which one do you think would be more likely?
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_00]: So likely, why, as I think it's cross-be just because I think he's getting traded this year, and then I think the miners can be involved in the process.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_00]: Really, I think the question just becomes like, what position do the miners think they can better sort of solve on the fly?
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're okay with the receivers they have, but I think they need, and I think, I mean, I think that's wrong, right?
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's a view that way, but I think they do think that way.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so you get that feeling go like, oh, I think they would rather trade for another elite eddresher.
