- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush. Sorority houses
- 0:16Speaker 3: are known for sisterhood parties and NonStop chaos, But what
- 0:20Speaker 3: happens when something way less fun starts spreading.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We are talking about the grossest, the sicknesses, the nasty diseases.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Jesus is right, the dirty diseases that start to spread
- 0:34Speaker 2: through the house.
- 0:35Speaker 3: The worst, Yes, the outbreaks no one wants to have
- 0:39Speaker 3: or ever know about. I'm honestly on this episode, I
- 0:42Speaker 3: feel like I'm probably going to learn about some that
- 0:44Speaker 3: I don't even know.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, Yeah, I don't remember Daisy, like really
- 0:49Speaker 2: looking back getting sick in the house, I really don't.
- 0:54Speaker 2: But I mean there's a long time ago, but I
- 0:56Speaker 2: know that you actually got really sick.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah, living I got so sick. It was my freshman
- 1:03Speaker 3: year and living in the dorm. I actually got meningitis
- 1:06Speaker 3: and I was a meningitis like outbreak at my school.
- 1:09Speaker 3: If you google like SCSU meningitis twenty seventeen, like there's
- 1:15Speaker 3: a bunch of articles and it was like me and
- 1:17Speaker 3: one other girl, and it was like all over the
- 1:20Speaker 3: news on that time when we got like admitted to
- 1:23Speaker 3: the hospital, and it was crazy. And then literally so
- 1:26Speaker 3: many girls from SCSU, especially in my sorority, even if
- 1:31Speaker 3: they had a headache, because that's one of the signs
- 1:33Speaker 3: of meningitis, would go to the hospital and the only
- 1:36Speaker 3: way to test for it is to get a spinal tap,
- 1:38Speaker 3: So like all these girls were showing up getting spinal taps.
- 1:41Speaker 2: My god, yeah, wow, later a second, So how did
- 1:45Speaker 2: you figure it out? Do you? Just like what happened
- 1:47Speaker 2: with the symptoms the symptoms.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I was in the library studying with my roommate and
- 1:53Speaker 3: then we went back. It was probably like midnight, and
- 1:57Speaker 3: I was like, my head's kind of hurting, but I
- 1:58Speaker 3: used to always get headaches. I took some advil or tylenol,
- 2:02Speaker 3: fell asleep, woke about like three, and I was like, oh,
- 2:04Speaker 3: my gosh, it hurts so bad. So it took more
- 2:06Speaker 3: of whichever one I didn't take, and then I woke
- 2:09Speaker 3: up in the morning and I was like, I cannot
- 2:10Speaker 3: go to class, and she was like you have to,
- 2:12Speaker 3: like we're gonna have a quiz today, and so then
- 2:15Speaker 3: I went to class. And I was like sitting there
- 2:17Speaker 3: and it was like biology went class, yeah, and it
- 2:20Speaker 3: was like biology World of Animals. I had a hat
- 2:23Speaker 3: on and my sunglasses and I just like was not
- 2:26Speaker 3: paid attention, and all of a sudden, I like turned
- 2:28Speaker 3: to look at her and there was just a shocking pain,
- 2:31Speaker 3: like it was the worst headache I've ever heard, and
- 2:33Speaker 3: it just like went down my spine, and I just
- 2:35Speaker 3: got up and I walked straight to the doctor on
- 2:37Speaker 3: campus and I was like, something's really wrong. And then
- 2:40Speaker 3: they were like, we think you might have meningitis. And
- 2:43Speaker 3: so then Wow sent me to a hospital. And then
- 2:48Speaker 3: that hospital said I just had a migraine and to
- 2:50Speaker 3: go home. So then I went home to my dorm room.
- 2:53Speaker 3: When I was sitting there and all of a sudden,
- 2:55Speaker 3: like this was probably like a couple hours after I
- 2:59Speaker 3: had left the first hop hospital, and I was sitting
- 3:01Speaker 3: there and I was like, I all of a sudden,
- 3:03Speaker 3: I couldn't feel like I couldn't move and I was
- 3:06Speaker 3: like laying in bed. See it was crazy. So then
- 3:09Speaker 3: a guy that lived down the hall came to our room.
- 3:13Speaker 3: He was like one of my really good friends. Picked
- 3:15Speaker 3: me up, like carried me downstairs. My roommate's brother was
- 3:20Speaker 3: a senior at the time when we were freshman, and
- 3:22Speaker 3: so he came and picked us up, drove me to
- 3:24Speaker 3: like a different hospital that he knew was like a
- 3:26Speaker 3: better one. I think we were at scripts there, but
- 3:30Speaker 3: then they like right away, like they took me back
- 3:33Speaker 3: right away, and then I like budget the whole like
- 3:37Speaker 3: everyone in the yard line, and they just like brought
- 3:40Speaker 3: me back. And then we were in there and it
- 3:43Speaker 3: was like my roommate her brother, and then a nurse
- 3:48Speaker 3: and then a doctor came in. He's like and they
- 3:50Speaker 3: were like, there were a couple other nurses in there.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He was like, everyone needs to get out. Besides like
- 3:54Speaker 3: my roommate and the nurse, they were like, you.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Like, everybody has to put on a right It's.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Like, yeah, everyone that came in was in like full on,
- 4:04Speaker 3: like covered and every second nobody could come in and
- 4:07Speaker 3: see me.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yet I can't even imagine being a frooutd glitch. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: I and get an aingitis. My husband got meningitis and
- 4:17Speaker 2: it was bad. I didn't actually man, but he talks
- 4:20Speaker 2: about it how it's really it's not fun at all,
- 4:25Speaker 2: horrible and scary. So yeah, I can't imagine a little daisy,
- 4:30Speaker 2: little freshman daisy getting.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I know, it was crazy, and then my mom came
- 4:34Speaker 3: out like right away because you can like die from it.
- 4:38Speaker 2: So I know. So, was it your first semester? Do
- 4:41Speaker 2: you remember?
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it was my first semester. It was end of
- 4:44Speaker 3: October because I remember being so bummed that I missed Halloween.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like the worst. I just can't imagine your brand.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Everything is brand new, You're trying to have a good time,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you're trying to acclimate, and then this. I'm surprised you
- 4:58Speaker 2: went back. And if I was your mother, I probably
- 5:00Speaker 2: wouldn't let you.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I know, it was crazy. I went home for like
- 5:03Speaker 3: a good amount after because I was like so weak
- 5:06Speaker 3: and I had lost so much weight and so I
- 5:08Speaker 3: like needed to like get healthy.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Well, listen, we're going to bring in our first caller
- 5:13Speaker 2: to tell us another crazy story. This is like I'm
- 5:16Speaker 2: feeling like, I'm glad we scheduled it now because I
- 5:19Speaker 2: haven't had anything to eat a couple hours and I
- 5:22Speaker 2: probably won't. I'm also a hypochondriac. Well, we can talk
- 5:24Speaker 2: about that. In college, whenever anyone got anything I thought
- 5:28Speaker 2: I had it. If I was sick in college, I
- 5:31Speaker 2: get oh my god, I would lose my mind, like,
- 5:34Speaker 2: oh my god, this is it. This is you know,
- 5:36Speaker 2: this is the big one. Yeah, And I'm.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Like, yeah, well, good thing you're not. I can say
- 5:42Speaker 3: you're not going into college right now after talking about all.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Thank you, while I still probably going to be busy
- 5:47Speaker 2: to night thinking like oh I think that headache went
- 5:49Speaker 2: right down to my spine.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Yeah right, okay.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You guys, So we are going to welcome in Rebecca.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Hello, Rebecca, Rebecca. I feel like so many weird things
- 6:02Speaker 3: happen in college, So tell us about what you experienced.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I feel like I definitely got a fair share of
- 6:08Speaker 4: diseases while I was in college, from black mold into
- 6:12Speaker 4: my dorm to also handfut no, yeah, handy.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Now if my kids got that, that's I thought that
- 6:19Speaker 2: was like just a little kid's disease. Not to see them.
- 6:23Speaker 4: It's from preschoolers actually. And it was crazy because I
- 6:29Speaker 4: was still living in the dorms. So I was in
- 6:31Speaker 4: a triple and it's kind of one of like the
- 6:33Speaker 4: nicer ones, like all the other ones have communal bathrooms,
- 6:36Speaker 4: but ours bathroom was inside our dorm, which I was
- 6:38Speaker 4: like thank goodness, because I was already so nervous about
- 6:41Speaker 4: going and like having communal bathrooms. But I had two
- 6:45Speaker 4: other roommates. We were in bunk beds and we were
- 6:48Speaker 4: going out. It was post initiation. I think this was
- 6:51Speaker 4: like this was Fashian year, so twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 4: it had just been initiated and we were like going
- 6:57Speaker 4: out and it was like the pre parties in Exchange
- 7:00Speaker 4: and our motherhood. I know, the best time. Our brother
- 7:05Speaker 4: frat was Sae and they had done like an event
- 7:09Speaker 4: with the local preschool and we had kind of heard
- 7:12Speaker 4: that maybe hands, foot and mouth is going around, but
- 7:15Speaker 4: in order to go out at school, you have to
- 7:18Speaker 4: go to the pre party in Exchange. So we were like,
- 7:21Speaker 4: what if we get it, Like we have to go
- 7:22Speaker 4: out like us freshman, like following all the rules right,
- 7:26Speaker 4: like we have to go to the pre party and
- 7:27Speaker 4: then after like we'll just go out, we'll have fun
- 7:29Speaker 4: and do whatever. And so we're obviously like all sharing
- 7:33Speaker 4: drinks and blah blah blah, and the next week I
- 7:36Speaker 4: am so sick. And for me, I'm one of those
- 7:39Speaker 4: people like my like spot that I is, like my
- 7:41Speaker 4: weakness is like my throat, like I will get strapped
- 7:44Speaker 4: throw a terrible like sore throat and that's when I
- 7:46Speaker 4: know I'm like sick. And so I was going in.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I was like, Okay, maybe it's just strup, like we'll see.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And like my roommates was a doctor, so we were
- 7:55Speaker 4: facetiming him and he was like here, like open your mouth,
- 7:58Speaker 4: like let me see, Like what are you feeling.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Like before I was.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Going to like the local like school nurse like pall
- 8:04Speaker 4: POOLI I was like, please if anything, rather than going there.
- 8:09Speaker 4: So He's like, you have like all these like red
- 8:11Speaker 4: dots like in the back of your mouth. And I
- 8:13Speaker 4: was like, oh my gosh, I feel like that's not strap.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I feel like maybe it could be mono. But like
- 8:17Speaker 4: I had it once like in high school. So I
- 8:19Speaker 4: was like, I feel like you only get that once, right, Yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 4: And so anyway, I it was like stat in our
- 8:26Speaker 4: group me like a hundred times, like all the guys have.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Hands foot the mouth.
- 8:31Speaker 4: And so I told my roommate that and I told
- 8:33Speaker 4: her dad and he was like, didn't want to say
- 8:36Speaker 4: it to me, like on the FaceTime. So he was
- 8:38Speaker 4: like texting her on the side like I think she
- 8:40Speaker 4: has that like.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Why because it's just like you think that he thought
- 8:44Speaker 2: you were going to think it's so grosser, Like.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Who was like, I don't want to be the barrier
- 8:49Speaker 4: of bad news, Like you can tell her. Yeah, it's
- 8:52Speaker 4: like me telling my mom. I was like, Mama, handswood mouth.
- 8:55Speaker 4: She's like you're lying, like that's a joke, like preschoolers
- 8:58Speaker 4: get that, Like how did you do that? And I
- 9:00Speaker 4: was like no, like seriously, I haven't. And so I
- 9:03Speaker 4: went to the doctor like the next day, and like
- 9:05Speaker 4: it kept getting worse, like I had it all over
- 9:07Speaker 4: my hands.
- 9:08Speaker 3: It looked like it's like blisters, right, yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 4: So it starts in your mouth, I guess like depending
- 9:14Speaker 4: on the person, it starts in your mouth and then
- 9:18Speaker 4: like goes to your hands. And then my roommates were like,
- 9:20Speaker 4: you need to like leave, like it's like such a
- 9:23Speaker 4: tight area in there. You feel like you're in like
- 9:25Speaker 4: one little small like cubicle. And it's like yeah, And
- 9:30Speaker 4: so luckily I told my mom. I was like, mom,
- 9:32Speaker 4: like I think I need to fly home because one
- 9:34Speaker 4: I don't want to give my roommates this, and two
- 9:36Speaker 4: I'm literally thought I was going to die because it
- 9:38Speaker 4: was so bad. Were itching, they were hurting. It was
- 9:41Speaker 4: like blisters, and it was like my freshman year.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I was like, I class, that's horrible. I know, how
- 9:50Speaker 3: long did it last for?
- 9:52Speaker 4: It honestly lasted like a good chunk of time. They
- 9:56Speaker 4: put me on like antibiotics, and it like started to
- 9:58Speaker 4: get better. But then I had like these weird like
- 10:00Speaker 4: scarring on my hands and.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so you still you're not still scarred from it?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Are you?
- 10:06Speaker 4: No? Thank gosh, imagine I was four years later, five
- 10:10Speaker 4: years later, yeah, And then in my mouth it like
- 10:13Speaker 4: started to get better, but it like honestly felt ten
- 10:16Speaker 4: times worse than strap throat because I think like bumps
- 10:20Speaker 4: in there, Like it's so funny. I literally found a
- 10:22Speaker 4: picture the other day, like came back in my flashback memories.
- 10:24Speaker 4: It was like, please never show me that ever again.
- 10:28Speaker 3: So it's still like traumatic.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Was your roommate freaking out, like don't give it to me?
- 10:32Speaker 2: Or did they handle?
- 10:33Speaker 4: They were very sweet. It was like me and one
- 10:37Speaker 4: girl that like chose each other from like Instagram and
- 10:39Speaker 4: they are like our like random roommate who was the
- 10:43Speaker 4: sweetest girl ever. But she like did not rush a story,
- 10:46Speaker 4: like she didn't understand the concept of like going out
- 10:48Speaker 4: and like doing all that stuff. So she's like this
- 10:50Speaker 4: like I think scared her even more and like validated
- 10:52Speaker 4: her decision why she did not want to rush and
- 10:55Speaker 4: like go through any of it, even like go out.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I was like, you have to sell, like this is
- 11:00Speaker 4: just like the most extreme thing ever. But I was
- 11:03Speaker 4: more at the beginning, like what is this? Like I
- 11:06Speaker 4: had not really even heard of it, like seen it.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Oh for sure, I don't think I knew what that was.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I actually learned what it was last year because I
- 11:13Speaker 3: was watching this Netflix show what is it called. It's
- 11:16Speaker 3: called like receivers about like different NFL receivers, and it
- 11:19Speaker 3: was like alm and ros Saint Brown had it during
- 11:22Speaker 3: one of the games and he was like it was
- 11:24Speaker 3: the most painful thing, like catching the ball.
- 11:26Speaker 4: I feel like it spread so easily too, especially with
- 11:29Speaker 4: it being on my hands.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, did all the boys know, Like were they were
- 11:33Speaker 2: they all getting sick?
- 11:35Speaker 4: Yes, they were, like all six. So like after it
- 11:37Speaker 4: was like probably like a week since they had done
- 11:40Speaker 4: like the like little charity like event. I think they
- 11:43Speaker 4: had to go like and like read books to like
- 11:44Speaker 4: the little kids, which was so peper, Like, oh my god,
- 11:47Speaker 4: how sweet of them? And then bring us this like
- 11:51Speaker 4: nasty thing. But I mean like I feel like that's
- 11:54Speaker 4: kind of like what you get from like sharing things
- 11:56Speaker 4: that like preprising exchanges and stuff for sure.
- 11:59Speaker 3: And I feel like out in college, everyone's just like
- 12:02Speaker 3: they're just going out and even if they're sick, people
- 12:04Speaker 3: still go out.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Still go out, and like just like don't even think twice,
- 12:08Speaker 4: which I feel like, yeah, you didn't really even think
- 12:11Speaker 4: about that. But it honestly lasted for them like a
- 12:14Speaker 4: good period of time because it was like all of
- 12:16Speaker 4: them living in the chapter house and then it was
- 12:18Speaker 4: like some of them had it, and then like another
- 12:20Speaker 4: group people have had it because like they didn't know
- 12:22Speaker 4: they had it and they just kept spreading it all over.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Your friends have it, Yes, they all stay in one
- 12:30Speaker 4: room together. I'm like, no, I need to go home.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Like I am like so like gross sad about that stuff.
- 12:35Speaker 4: And I like couldn't even believe I had it. I
- 12:38Speaker 4: was like I need to go home and be nurtured by.
- 12:40Speaker 3: My mom and like yeah, yeah, oh my gosh, for sure,
- 12:45Speaker 3: that sounds so painful.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it was definitely painful, one of like the most
- 12:49Speaker 4: painful like sicknesses I've had.
- 12:51Speaker 5: You know.
- 12:51Speaker 2: It's funny because I remember, like I don't even remember
- 12:54Speaker 2: that my kids had it, but I know all there
- 12:56Speaker 2: are so many little ones that got it, my kids.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I didn't even realize it was so painful. I thought
- 13:00Speaker 2: it was just like you would all of a sudden
- 13:02Speaker 2: see like a rash on the bottom of their foot
- 13:04Speaker 2: or something that. But I can be remembering it wrong.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. Maybe like as you get older,
- 13:11Speaker 4: it's like either like more intense less intense, like who
- 13:13Speaker 4: knows or if I've had it. But I am was like, yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 4: you didn't get this in preschool. Now you're getting it
- 13:18Speaker 4: your freshman year of college.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Right right, Yeah, it's so crazy. Okay, we have our
- 13:37Speaker 3: next collar in and it is Savannah. So Savannah I
- 13:43Speaker 3: heard a little bit prior only like the name of
- 13:46Speaker 3: what it is. But what is norovirus?
- 13:50Speaker 5: Yeah? So norovirus was something that I think spread through
- 13:54Speaker 5: my school last year in the spring. It was spreading
- 13:59Speaker 5: around the US and a lot of people had really
- 14:02Speaker 5: really crazy cases of it. But basically picture like the
- 14:05Speaker 5: absolute worst stomach bug, stomach flu like food poisoning times
- 14:11Speaker 5: a million. Unfortunately, it's extremely, extremely contagious and living in
- 14:17Speaker 5: a story house obviously is probably the worst place to
- 14:21Speaker 5: have something like that spread.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Definitely, Yeah, I was.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I was just thinking, I don't even know. I'm fifty seven,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I don't really even know what it is. I don't
- 14:30Speaker 2: remember ever having it or my kids having it. But literally,
- 14:34Speaker 2: weirdly today I was with this woman and she was
- 14:36Speaker 2: carrying something called like prequil and her car was like, oh,
- 14:40Speaker 2: what's that? She said, It's to prevent neurovirus, and I
- 14:43Speaker 2: am constantly putting it on my hands because I'm so
- 14:46Speaker 2: paranoid about it. I'm thinking, what is the big deal about?
- 14:49Speaker 2: I don't I never really like, I never really heard
- 14:51Speaker 2: of it, had you.
- 14:52Speaker 3: J Zy, No, I haven't. Intel Literally right before that
- 14:56Speaker 3: we got on this, right, it had a.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Sim spread in terms of the spreading of it. I
- 15:02Speaker 5: think honestly the closest equivalent would be COVID just in
- 15:06Speaker 5: terms of how quickly and how easily it can spread.
- 15:10Speaker 5: But it's it's just effects a very different part of
- 15:13Speaker 5: your body. In affects, right, Basically, if you were to
- 15:16Speaker 5: get food poisoning, that's exactly what would happen to you.
- 15:20Speaker 5: So it's the full like throwing up issues were ye, Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Oh, do you know, like I mean, it was I
- 15:29Speaker 2: know you said it's so contagious, but was there one
- 15:30Speaker 2: person who or would you the first person you knew
- 15:33Speaker 2: that got it? Did you spread it funny stories?
- 15:36Speaker 5: I actually didn't even know I had it, which I
- 15:39Speaker 5: think might be the worst part, because I genuinely thought
- 15:43Speaker 5: I had food poisoning. And when you have food poisoning,
- 15:45Speaker 5: obviously you know you are personally affected and it's awful,
- 15:48Speaker 5: but at least you know, yeah, saying you're right. I
- 15:53Speaker 5: thought that I was like just dealing with a really
- 15:56Speaker 5: bad bout of you know, some sort of expired berea situation. Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 5: But it turns out I actually was basically bedridden for
- 16:06Speaker 5: seventy two hours. The only time I got up was
- 16:10Speaker 5: to use the bathroom, and it was always in a panic.
- 16:13Speaker 2: It was always in a rush.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Oh for sure, Were you like so dehydrated?
- 16:17Speaker 5: Oh my god, I remember like uber eats sing like
- 16:21Speaker 5: uber eatsing, that's not even a term, but like I
- 16:23Speaker 5: just remember constantly having to have gator ead in my
- 16:25Speaker 5: room and the only thing for seventy two hours I
- 16:27Speaker 5: could stomach with saltines. But I really just thought that
- 16:31Speaker 5: I had some sort of bad food poisoning. And then
- 16:34Speaker 5: the next week, I ended up going to my story
- 16:36Speaker 5: house for dinner and I sat down with three of
- 16:38Speaker 5: my friends and they were all chat chatting, and I
- 16:41Speaker 5: was late to the conversation, so I didn't know what
- 16:42Speaker 5: they were talking about. And they were saying, Oh my gosh,
- 16:45Speaker 5: like I'm so glad, I'm better. It was so hard
- 16:47Speaker 5: last week to be in the guest room. And I'm
- 16:50Speaker 5: listening to them, I'm like, what do you mean? And
- 16:52Speaker 5: they had said that multiple of the girls in the
- 16:54Speaker 5: house had to quarantine in guest rooms of our storty
- 16:58Speaker 5: house because it had spread and we got change side effects.
- 17:04Speaker 5: And it turns out all of us had the exact
- 17:06Speaker 5: same experience and then all been feeling the same way
- 17:09Speaker 5: for at least three days straight.
- 17:11Speaker 3: And when my sorority, we like all had like everyone
- 17:14Speaker 3: kind of like shared like the bathroom, and it was
- 17:16Speaker 3: like stalls, Is that how yours?
- 17:18Speaker 2: Was?
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah, So our our bathroom situation is each bathroom has
- 17:22Speaker 5: like three not really stalls, but each has like three
- 17:26Speaker 5: private bathrooms in the same area as like the showers
- 17:29Speaker 5: and stuff. So there's just like absolutely no like there's
- 17:32Speaker 5: no way to avoid cross content or anything like that.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's test like if you go I mean, you thought
- 17:37Speaker 2: you had food poisoning, do you go to does a
- 17:39Speaker 2: doctor I don't know, like take a swab or to
- 17:42Speaker 2: even know that you have.
- 17:43Speaker 5: So it is like a similar it's a similar process
- 17:45Speaker 5: to COVID, I don't Yeah, it's a similar process to
- 17:48Speaker 5: COVID in which, like you can go to the doctor
- 17:50Speaker 5: and ask for a test. Most of the time what
- 17:52Speaker 5: they'll tell you is simply to quarantine, and it's just
- 17:55Speaker 5: something that as soon as you get it, like there's
- 17:58Speaker 5: kind of no hope to avoid it. It's like if
- 18:00Speaker 5: you're exposed to it, you're gonna get it.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's awful. So, like you're in the house,
- 18:05Speaker 2: it was about getting it to other people. Did it go?
- 18:08Speaker 2: Did it just spread so quickly?
- 18:10Speaker 5: Yeah, So honestly, people started dropping like flies. I remember.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I mean, since I didn't live in the house, I
- 18:16Speaker 5: didn't even realize like how bad it was until the
- 18:19Speaker 5: next week. I literally was off the grid for like
- 18:21Speaker 5: a week, Like I swear my friends were like where
- 18:23Speaker 5: are you or you okay? Like I am bedridden, like
- 18:25Speaker 5: I cannot move. I had to obviously email professors, let
- 18:30Speaker 5: them know, I couldn't come to Like I literally didn't
- 18:32Speaker 5: go to class for three days because I was worried
- 18:34Speaker 5: if I wasn't next to a bathroom, like something was
- 18:37Speaker 5: it was.
- 18:38Speaker 2: It was bad.
- 18:40Speaker 5: In terms of it actually like spreading through my Storty house.
- 18:43Speaker 5: I think it was a bit of a similar situation
- 18:45Speaker 5: because two years prior in my Storty House, we had
- 18:48Speaker 5: a different chef and apparently he was unfortunately known for
- 18:51Speaker 5: oftentimes giving like uncooked chicken, and yeah, girls were used
- 18:57Speaker 5: to getting food poisoning, and so I think it was that.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Before you fired a guy.
- 19:05Speaker 5: I know he fired and the new chef is awesome,
- 19:09Speaker 5: but I think some of those older girls were like,
- 19:11Speaker 5: oh my gosh, the new chef is also yeah, it's
- 19:15Speaker 5: from that, it's from that. And so again, no one
- 19:17Speaker 5: really knew because I think kind of similar to what
- 19:19Speaker 5: you guys are saying, like who we've I like, who
- 19:21Speaker 5: knows what nora virus is? Like, I don't think I
- 19:23Speaker 5: didn't have the same sort of effect as COVID in
- 19:26Speaker 5: terms of like everyone knowing about it. So a lot
- 19:29Speaker 5: of people just assumed, like, oh, it's not anything like
- 19:32Speaker 5: super crazy.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Did anyone have to go to the hospital.
- 19:35Speaker 2: One girl had to go to the hospital.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Yeah, okay.
- 19:38Speaker 5: One girl was in the hospital for a week, and
- 19:39Speaker 5: I think it had more to do with dehydration and
- 19:42Speaker 5: a lack of fluids that she had to be pumped
- 19:45Speaker 5: up to an ivy, oh for sure.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And everyone had like the worst stomach stuff, nausea and
- 19:52Speaker 2: throwing up. To me, that's the worst. I mean, yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 2: there are things are worse, but like worse than a
- 19:58Speaker 2: throat thing, worse than like yeah, it's just like that.
- 20:02Speaker 2: The nausea is so horrible. I can't imagine it going
- 20:05Speaker 2: on for that many.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Days, right, yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Bad.
- 20:08Speaker 5: It's also bad because even for me for three days
- 20:10Speaker 5: to not have proper food and not have proper nutrients
- 20:14Speaker 5: to notice it, right, you genuinely can tell like oh this,
- 20:17Speaker 5: like I don't feel myself and I can't imagine. Like
- 20:21Speaker 5: my friend who was in the hospital for a week.
- 20:23Speaker 5: I remember she came back and everyone was like just
- 20:26Speaker 5: feeling super like are you okay? Like are you yeah?
- 20:29Speaker 5: Just because it's it is scary. It's also scary to
- 20:33Speaker 5: think it's something that you'll pass in like twenty four
- 20:35Speaker 5: hours and then sticks with you for a while.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I was crazy because how long did you say it
- 20:39Speaker 3: was like three days.
- 20:40Speaker 5: I had it for three days, and I think I
- 20:44Speaker 5: had it Honestly, three days was insane, But I think
- 20:46Speaker 5: I had it better than most because I was in
- 20:49Speaker 5: my own quarantine. I lived in a like a small room,
- 20:55Speaker 5: and I was able to just kind of hunker down
- 20:56Speaker 5: for a couple of days and just like literally talk
- 21:00Speaker 5: to no one, do nothing like being sick.
- 21:02Speaker 2: And then the girl next to you was puking next
- 21:04Speaker 2: to you.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, yeah, feeling sick like that is like horrible,
- 21:10Speaker 3: like right when you're like like until you're like right
- 21:13Speaker 3: about to throw up, just like sitting there, you can't
- 21:16Speaker 3: think of anything.
- 21:17Speaker 5: The nausea was so honestly, was so bad, and unfortunately
- 21:20Speaker 5: I don't know what I did to deserve it. I
- 21:22Speaker 5: had more of the stomach rather than the nausea, so
- 21:26Speaker 5: like I'm like, I had like cramping that I cannot
- 21:30Speaker 5: even explain the amount of pain it was. Oh my god,
- 21:35Speaker 5: it was so bad. It was genuinely the type of
- 21:37Speaker 5: like the only thing you can do to have any
- 21:39Speaker 5: sort of relief is like fetal position, like that's your Yeah.
- 21:43Speaker 3: At any point, did you think about going to the.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Hospital, Honestly, I made a mental note. I said, if
- 21:50Speaker 5: this goes past seventy two hours, I need to like, yeah, Walter,
- 21:54Speaker 5: because it was at the point where like I was
- 21:56Speaker 5: more so worried about not getting proper nutrients and like
- 21:59Speaker 5: being able to I don't like anything.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I mean, that's a long time about having any food
- 22:03Speaker 3: or did your mom freak out?
- 22:06Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I tried well.
- 22:07Speaker 5: I tried to explain it to my parents, and they
- 22:09Speaker 5: were more My mom has like the craziest like god reflex.
- 22:12Speaker 5: She's just like no, she literally didn't let me explain it.
- 22:16Speaker 5: She's like, I am so sorry you're going through that
- 22:18Speaker 5: and hung up the phone. I can't I can't listen.
- 22:22Speaker 5: I can't listen. So I think they didn't really get
- 22:24Speaker 5: how bad it was, because I almost I don't want
- 22:27Speaker 5: them to take out. They're not, like they don't live
- 22:30Speaker 5: in the city with me, so like there's something they
- 22:32Speaker 5: can really do about it. And honestly, I think my
- 22:34Speaker 5: mom was grateful. I didn't get for more details.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yeah, did they ever even sent her the podcast? Did
- 22:41Speaker 3: the school ever send out something like on campus, like
- 22:46Speaker 3: saying this is going around?
- 22:48Speaker 5: To be honest, my school sends things like that all
- 22:51Speaker 5: the time. It's not just like health wise, but they're
- 22:55Speaker 5: just constantly sending news blasts, constantly sending like yeah, safety
- 23:00Speaker 5: updates and news about the local area. And I think
- 23:03Speaker 5: if anything like that was actually sent, no one would
- 23:06Speaker 5: have even like read the email. Like it's like, I
- 23:09Speaker 5: don't think anyone would have would have kept kept an.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Eye out for any sort of art.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and I.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Think the same thing happened in a different sorority like
- 23:18Speaker 5: weeks later, and so it was crazy that it just
- 23:20Speaker 5: like managed to make its way through and just like
- 23:22Speaker 5: take it out.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Well, I mean, listen, it's something to remember. Maybe it's
- 23:28Speaker 2: a great memory that you can commisery with all the
- 23:32Speaker 2: other girls, Right, I think I ever got anything when
- 23:34Speaker 2: I was in living in the sorority house. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 2: think I did, but yeah, I mean it just sounds
- 23:40Speaker 2: so miserable.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it's definitely a fun Maybe not something i'll remember positively,
- 23:45Speaker 5: but it's definitely something i'll remember.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Exactly I remember it about it.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Sorry. Yeah, our next caller is Charlotte, and I think
- 24:09Speaker 3: she has quite the story for us. Hi Charlotte, Hi Daisy, Hi.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Jen that I'm a little scared of what's to come.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yes, I went to a big party school and there
- 24:23Speaker 1: was a lot of herpies that went around both and
- 24:28Speaker 1: down there nasty yoh. So for the oral story I have,
- 24:35Speaker 1: we obviously went to fraternities all the time, and this
- 24:37Speaker 1: was before COVID, this was before people cared about germs,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and we would share a like, you know, fifth of alcohol.
- 24:45Speaker 2: We would all pass it around and drink out.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Oh, for sure, that's what we did all the time, right,
- 24:50Speaker 3: did important cups or anything.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And there was a guy in the fraternity at the time,
- 24:57Speaker 1: my friends and also I was there that night, none
- 24:59Speaker 1: of us, but he had a active cold sore herpees
- 25:04Speaker 1: scab on his lip, and we were all sharing and
- 25:09Speaker 1: I somehow got lucky and some people did not. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: my friend woke up like a couple of days later
- 25:14Speaker 1: and she had a herpie on her mouth, as well
- 25:17Speaker 1: as four other girls we know in different sororities who
- 25:20Speaker 1: are also there that night.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And is it like, once you get it, you have
- 25:24Speaker 2: it for life. Yeah, so it would like flare.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's flared up ever since then. They will continue to
- 25:30Speaker 1: get these herpees. I don't know if like I don't
- 25:34Speaker 1: know the details, but they still have issues with it.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Oh, it's so sad. Can it show up down there
- 25:40Speaker 3: if you get it up here?
- 25:41Speaker 5: Now?
- 25:41Speaker 4: You can't.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I don't think it can.
- 25:43Speaker 1: But I do have friends as well in college who
- 25:45Speaker 1: would hook up with guys who would have a like
- 25:49Speaker 1: a scab, a flare up like down there.
- 25:51Speaker 3: And wouldn't do anything about it and wouldn't wear a condom.
- 25:54Speaker 1: So I've had multiple friends in my sorority who also
- 25:58Speaker 1: have gotten herpes down.
- 25:59Speaker 3: There and now have forever.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Because these guys wear condoms more than.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Girls like I have. You have to give me their
- 26:06Speaker 2: phone numbers. I'm furious. I know, I don't understand. Where
- 26:10Speaker 2: are their mothers?
- 26:11Speaker 1: I know you should not be sharing drinks and you
- 26:14Speaker 1: should be wearing condoms.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Amen.
- 26:16Speaker 3: It's like, oh my gosh.
- 26:20Speaker 2: You probably learned that lesson. If you get herpes sexually transmitted,
- 26:24Speaker 2: you probably, like from the probably will wear a condom. Then,
- 26:27Speaker 2: I would think for the rest of your life.
- 26:30Speaker 1: So did were herpes a big thing when you were
- 26:32Speaker 1: in college?
- 26:33Speaker 3: No?
- 26:33Speaker 2: At least, I mean I didn't get it. There was
- 26:36Speaker 2: a lot of crabs. I mean, do you guys have crabsnea?
- 26:43Speaker 2: But not? Yes, you know, yeah, there was crabs was huge,
- 26:47Speaker 2: and crabs. I don't know if there are some girls
- 26:51Speaker 2: listening who are freshmen or whatever. Just just be careful
- 26:55Speaker 2: because in your pubes oh my god.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Also like college guys like they they get around.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, but listen to condom can't save you
- 27:10Speaker 2: from crabs. I even think you can get it. This
- 27:14Speaker 2: is a lot, you guys. But like bugs can jump
- 27:17Speaker 2: off onto a toilet. Oh my god. I've even heard
- 27:21Speaker 2: of pubic lce and that's what I think. Guess what
- 27:25Speaker 2: it is the same thing I think. I don't know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: not to mention so many of these things are sexually transmitted.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I mean, like the HPV of it all, you guys
- 27:34Speaker 2: probably got guard to sel. I would think, yeah, right,
- 27:39Speaker 2: so there's no guard to cell when yeah, you know,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and HRV is serious and it's so Yeah. The moral
- 27:47Speaker 2: of the story, listeners is Daisy be safe. Where safety girls.
- 27:55Speaker 2: That's awful.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I just had to share that with you guys,
