- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the I'm team series and your daily influence and today we are going to be talking about well feeling on or underappreciated in some steps that you know we can take to ship the narrative.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: in our own minds about those feelings and what they're doing to influence us in a negative way and get in the way of us being our best self or continuing to try to be our best self because that's often times really, you know, what happens when we feel unappreciated as we stop trying.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: We stop being our best self.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: We stop being that positive or responsible influence.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: We pivot into something
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: different in its frustrating.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things I think that's most important is that if you're going to work with yourself to be your best self, then you need to recognize and appreciate your own value.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't value yourself, even though you're striving to be your best self, how can others value you?
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: How can others recognize your value?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't even recognize
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: day in and day out.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's important to do that by starting to appreciate yourself.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're doing things that chip away at that ability to appreciate what you do for you, then change those things.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: Identify your strengths.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Look for those things where you contribute to your well-being.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: And when you buy those things that aren't contributing in a way that you would want
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Reflect on how you might improve those areas in your life and if you can't do it on your own, you can reach out.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: You can get help to do that.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: But you can't always rely on external validation to feel valued.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's so important for us to literally look at the mirror and say, you matter.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: You're important.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: what you do is important and if you're not doing it to the best of your ability that you will try to in the future and by the way, this internal acknowledgement that we're talking about actually sets the foundation for others to see that you do matter that you have that worth and if you are
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: feeling under-appreciated in areas of influence you have, where you're close to others.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: You need to articulate your feelings and needs haven't opened dialogue with those around you.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Not everybody requires validation for what they do.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: some of us just don't feed on that thing that we don't we don't need that to keep us motivated but others do and that's okay by the way it's okay whatever it is that you need to motivate and move you forward and if external validation is part of what keeps you going letting people know that that's important to you
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: is part of who you are and it's important for you to share that.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: And it is okay for you to share that.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't matter if it's at work or a personal relationship.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to ensure that your efforts and contributions are visible and understood and appreciated, bring them up.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: But be honest about that need.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: Don't surprise people with it.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: People can't
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of times, they're so caught up in themselves.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: We do this all the time.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're not really taking you for granted.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't realize it.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: But if you share it and you share it in a way that's positive and responsible, the influence you have, what result in being more appreciated primarily because they understand you better, they'll actually appreciate the fact that you're being honest.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: And if you really
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: want to elevate yourself.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you really want to take yourself to new levels, new levels aren't about change.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're about improvement.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Be that improvement.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Identify within yourself through that self-reflection, those areas where you can elevate improve yourself, where you can
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: model new behavior.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, it is okay for you to model behavior of others if that behavior is positive and responsible.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: And when you do that, you actually show them appreciation for doing good things for modeling the behavior that you want to emulate, that you want to be like, that you want to do.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: And when other people do that from your behavior, that is a form of appreciation.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing, there's not much that can make you feel better than when you see others doing things because of how you do things.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great form of appreciation and gratitude is contagious.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want people to be thankful to you for what you're doing, be thankful in your areas of influence.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: profusely.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes, to a fault, but there is nobody who ever interacts with Renee, my wife, when she is appreciative who doesn't understand that she has gratitude.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: She and my mind is the
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: continuously trying to be that way in every situation that I can and you can do that too.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't not just talking about gratitude, it can be any area of influence that you have.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: If it's positive or responsible people want to emulate it and take it for themselves and make it better.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: And what I'm saying is that can be your appreciation too.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Look, inspiring your culture to be amazing, inspiring your area of influence, to be positive, inspiring them to be responsible is appreciation and understand and reflect on your life where those things happen.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I promise you that you will begin to feel that appreciation
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: and help you to feel better about where you're going and how you're getting there.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Have a nice one.
