- 0:05Speaker 1: Hi, and welcome back to the Zillennial Cinefiles with Jordan
- 0:08Speaker 1: and Alexis. We're back for season two.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Finally.
- 0:14Speaker 1: A little delayed, but we made it happen. What's our
- 0:17Speaker 1: theme this week?
- 0:18Speaker 2: It's monsters.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Creature features, creature features.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We did the mash. They did the monster mash.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And what movies did we watch?
- 0:31Speaker 2: We watched Lake Placid and Trick or Treat.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Let's go. Fun picks. I half enjoyed it. I know.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I can't wait to talk about that.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I know. I have a lot of opinions I can't
- 0:45Speaker 1: wait to share. But we're going to dive in with
- 0:48Speaker 1: my pick, Lake Placid. Mm-hmm. Hit us with the synopsis, Jordan. Okay.
- 0:57Speaker 2: This movie is about... A giant crocodile that terrorizes, well,
- 1:03Speaker 2: he lives in the lake and terrorizes some people who
- 1:05Speaker 2: come into the lake, but he's just living in his lake.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And we have a paleontologist. She's a paleontologist.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:12Speaker 2: A paleontologist, a sheriff. What's Hector's thing called?
- 1:16Speaker 1: He's a professor. Professor of mythology.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Mythology professor and a game warden who come together to
- 1:22Speaker 2: try and get rid of this scary crocodile.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Perfect synopsis. Loved it.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Let's start with the quick facts. Release date, July 19th, 1999.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Director was Steve Miner. He was distributed by 20th Century Fox.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Had a budget of $ 35 million. Box office of 56.9 mil. Cool.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'd call that a success. Genre is horror comedy. And
- 1:47Speaker 1: it's starring Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, and Betty White. Everybody...
- 1:54Speaker 1: Clap for Bill Pullman for giving us Lewis Pullman. We
- 1:56Speaker 1: love to see it. Yes.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Is Bridget Fonda Jane Fonda's daughter? They have the same
- 2:02Speaker 2: last name.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Her aunt is Jane Fonda. Okay. Her grandfather was Henry Fonda.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Her father was Peter Fonda. So I guess that her
- 2:09Speaker 1: grandfather and dad are also legendary actors. I don't know
- 2:12Speaker 1: anything about them. Me neither. So it's her aunt that's
- 2:15Speaker 1: Jane Fonda. Okay. Iconic.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Cool. Good to know.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Also, Oliver Platt is like one of my favorite actors
- 2:20Speaker 1: that I forget is my favorite actors. Like every time
- 2:22Speaker 1: I see him, I'm like... Yes.
- 2:25Speaker 2: He looks crazy different here. I guess I've only seen
- 2:27Speaker 2: him in recent things. I was like, this guy looks familiar.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And then like when I eventually saw the cast, I
- 2:32Speaker 2: was like, oh, yeah, I know him.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's in The Bear. He's in Dear Mr. Gacy.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Very scary movie. He's in The West Wing. West Wing
- 2:41Speaker 1: fans out there. Love you. Of course, icon and queen
- 2:45Speaker 1: Betty White. Stacked cast, guys. We got a stacked cast.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Do you have any opening thoughts, things you'd
- 2:52Speaker 1: like to say? What do you think? Did you know
- 2:53Speaker 1: anything about the movie before you watched it?
- 2:56Speaker 2: But I saw that there's like a bunch of sequels
- 2:58Speaker 2: on Netflix. It was recently added to Netflix and there's
- 3:01Speaker 2: like a bunch of them. At least the second and
- 3:03Speaker 2: the third I saw pop up.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Spoiler alert, the ending leads us to that. Okay, let's
- 3:11Speaker 1: jump in. Opening credits, what were your thoughts?
- 3:14Speaker 2: That was at the trees and stuff, overview.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It was pretty. I liked it. Yes, there's a lot
- 3:20Speaker 1: of good nature shots here.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And the music was really good. Orchestra music, that was
- 3:24Speaker 2: all really good.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, the score. Score.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The score is excellent. It's a good monster score. It
- 3:32Speaker 1: gives you a lot of suspense. It's super fun. I
- 3:34Speaker 1: love the music. So yeah, we get going through the
- 3:37Speaker 1: pretty nature shots. And our first scene is our sheriff,
- 3:41Speaker 1: who we will learn to be Hank, and official wildlife
- 3:44Speaker 1: guy going out to tag beavers. Hank doesn't want to
- 3:47Speaker 1: be there. He's like, this is kind of dumb. But
- 3:50Speaker 1: the beaver guy's like, whatever, I'm going to dive in,
- 3:52Speaker 1: do my stuff. Yeah. So he's like swimming around and
- 3:56Speaker 1: he thinks he's found what's like a beaver dam. But
- 3:59Speaker 1: while he's investigating this dam, something gets him. And we
- 4:03Speaker 1: get one of my favorite things for Creature Feature, monster POV.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So like we get to see him swimming in the
- 4:09Speaker 1: water from the monster's eyes.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I did like that.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And he starts just getting dragged around until he's dragged
- 4:16Speaker 1: up to like the surface. And he begs the sheriff
- 4:19Speaker 1: to help him get on the boat. And once he
- 4:20Speaker 1: finally pulls him in, his bottom half is missing.
- 4:25Speaker 2: That was when I was like, oh, this is going
- 4:27Speaker 2: to be a good movie. Like the kills are going
- 4:29Speaker 2: to be good.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I loved that. I knew you were going to like it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I was like, Jordan's going to love this.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I loved it. I was like, this is serious.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yes. He's a real monster. He's a real monster. So
- 4:40Speaker 1: then we get title drop. Lake Placid. So good. We
- 4:43Speaker 1: bounce around a little bit the next scene. So part
- 4:45Speaker 1: of the time we spend in New York City. This
- 4:46Speaker 1: is where we meet Kelly, our paleontologist she's having a
- 4:50Speaker 1: bad time her boss who is also her boyfriend broke
- 4:53Speaker 1: up with her and she finds out that it's because
- 4:55Speaker 1: he's been hooking up with her friend and co-worker and
- 4:59Speaker 1: she's like fuck this but her boss is like we're
- 5:01Speaker 1: gonna send you out into the field to Maine and
- 5:04Speaker 1: she's like I'm not even a field worker what do
- 5:05Speaker 1: you mean like don't make me do this yeah she
- 5:07Speaker 1: was mad and she was like I'm not going up
- 5:09Speaker 1: there spoiler alert she goes up there and then the
- 5:13Speaker 1: scenes we're shifting to are on the lake with our
- 5:16Speaker 1: gay morden.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Jack sheriff's there. Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: The sheriff is just kind of telling Jack what's happened
- 5:22Speaker 1: and he's like kind of getting into investigator mode. This
- 5:25Speaker 1: is basically our intro. This is the main character.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And they all kind of hate each other a little
- 5:30Speaker 2: bit when they're all introduced. It's so funny. They're mean
- 5:32Speaker 2: to each other.
- 5:34Speaker 1: The tension. I love it.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I love it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I love it. So once Kelly arrives to Maine, the
- 5:41Speaker 1: first place she goes is the morgue with the sheriff,
- 5:44Speaker 1: because what they think is happening is they got a
- 5:47Speaker 1: tooth that was found in the body. And they're like,
- 5:50Speaker 1: we think that this might be an artifact. This is
- 5:52Speaker 1: a crazy tooth. And she gets there and she's like,
- 5:55Speaker 1: this is not a dinosaur tooth. It's definitely reptilian. She
- 5:58Speaker 1: was like, there's something going on, but it's not a fossil.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And I would like to see the lake that this
- 6:03Speaker 1: came from. The sheriff does not want her to go there.
- 6:06Speaker 1: He's like, why? Why do you want to do that?
- 6:09Speaker 1: And she's like, bro, just let me go. And then
- 6:12Speaker 1: Jack is like, we don't want this girl to go there. Like,
- 6:15Speaker 1: what is she going to do there? And she basically
- 6:17Speaker 1: just stands her ground and she's like, I'm going. So
- 6:21Speaker 1: they head out to the lake where they're going to
- 6:23Speaker 1: be camping. And Kelly is very much a city girl.
- 6:26Speaker 1: She did not realize what camping would entail. She's not
- 6:30Speaker 1: staying at a hotel. She's bummed. Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 2: At least she gets her own tent.
- 6:34Speaker 1: She does. And the girl deputy is very like nice
- 6:37Speaker 1: to her. She's like, I can tell this isn't your vibe.
- 6:40Speaker 1: but like we're girls girls here not a hater so
- 6:44Speaker 1: once we go to the lake we meet the only
- 6:47Speaker 1: person who lives by the lake and that's mrs bickerman
- 6:50Speaker 1: she used to live there with her husband her husband
- 6:52Speaker 1: has passed away and they're like have you guys seen
- 6:55Speaker 1: this crocodile at all what's the vibe and she's like
- 6:58Speaker 1: i don't know what you're talking about my husband died
- 7:01Speaker 1: two years ago she's like i killed him he was
- 7:05Speaker 1: sick and he didn't feel well and he like asked
- 7:07Speaker 1: me to kill him so i hit him in the
- 7:08Speaker 1: head with a pan And like they kind of don't
- 7:11Speaker 1: believe her. They're like, we don't know what's going on here.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But like confessing to murder is crazy.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And she's even like, you want to dig up the body?
- 7:19Speaker 1: I'll take you to it. But they're like, one thing
- 7:22Speaker 1: at a time. We're not dealing with this right now.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And then that scene ends so abruptly. And I was like, oh, OK, next. Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 1: They were like, we just got to introduce her real quick.
- 7:33Speaker 1: This is Betty White, by the way, everyone.
- 7:36Speaker 2: On her little farm, they've got horses and cows and stuff.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yes, it is a little farm. It's not just like
- 7:41Speaker 1: a house or like a shack in the woods. They
- 7:43Speaker 1: have a little farm. They took care of animals.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Chickens.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Cows being the big one. She loves the animals. Once
- 7:50Speaker 1: they get out there, they're like, we should do a
- 7:52Speaker 1: little bit of a boat ride, see what's going on,
- 7:56Speaker 1: driving around. And what do they find in the water floating?
- 7:58Speaker 1: A moose head. if you don't know moose are big
- 8:03Speaker 1: those are big boys kelly's not a fan of that
- 8:05Speaker 1: she's like bro what did i get myself into she's
- 8:09Speaker 1: got good screams she does have good screams she's a
- 8:12Speaker 1: good horror movie girl honestly so they go back to
- 8:15Speaker 1: the campsite jack's pretty annoyed at this point because he's
- 8:18Speaker 1: like bro this girl's pissing me off i just want
- 8:21Speaker 1: to get my job and get it done And at
- 8:23Speaker 1: the campsite, they're all kind of talking about what are
- 8:25Speaker 1: they going to do. They aren't even really sure what
- 8:27Speaker 1: they're looking for either at this point. Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And they go out on the water so many times.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, you guys aren't scared of nothing.
- 8:34Speaker 1: No, they're just looking. And I guess at this point,
- 8:36Speaker 1: because they aren't diving yet and they're just like driving around,
- 8:40Speaker 1: they're like, we got to find evidence of something. Also,
- 8:42Speaker 1: I do need to mention, I think right now the
- 8:44Speaker 1: leading theory is bear. Yes. They're like, I kind of
- 8:47Speaker 1: doesn't make sense with the water, but what else would
- 8:50Speaker 1: it be? You know? Yeah. Yeah. So right now, leading
- 8:53Speaker 1: theory is bear. But even that, I'd be like, a
- 8:55Speaker 1: bear is not going to decapitate a moose. They're all
- 8:58Speaker 1: just kind of talking about how are we going to
- 8:59Speaker 1: find this bear, which is also why I think they're
- 9:01Speaker 1: not scared of the water is because they're like, rare situation,
- 9:04Speaker 1: bear being in the water, you know? So they're at
- 9:07Speaker 1: the campsite. They're all talking, trying to figure out what
- 9:09Speaker 1: the next course of action is. And all of a sudden,
- 9:12Speaker 1: a helicopter is coming in and nobody knows who this
- 9:17Speaker 1: is except for one person. And that's Kelly.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And she's like, ugh.
- 9:22Speaker 1: This guy, they're all like, what do you mean? Who's
- 9:25Speaker 1: this guy? And she's like, this is Hector. He is
- 9:28Speaker 1: a professor of mythology and he swims with crocodiles. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: they're like, what do you mean there's no crocodiles here?
- 9:34Speaker 1: And she's like, he seems to think otherwise. Yeah. One
- 9:38Speaker 1: thing I love about Kelly, Hector's a kook. You know,
- 9:41Speaker 1: he's a funky little guy. He believes in things, in mythology.
- 9:45Speaker 1: He's very spiritual. But literally, as soon as he shows up,
- 9:49Speaker 1: she's like, we got a crocodile. Yeah. He knows his shit.
- 9:53Speaker 1: We're going to be annoyed with him. He kind of
- 9:55Speaker 1: sucks a little bit, but we got a crocodile.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And who tipped him off? Because they were trying to
- 9:59Speaker 2: keep this quiet the whole time. So the news wouldn't
- 10:02Speaker 2: catch it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: There has to be like within like the forest and
- 10:06Speaker 1: wildlife community of a word spreading situation where somebody was like,
- 10:10Speaker 1: low key, I should tell Hector about this. I wonder
- 10:11Speaker 1: what he thinks. Because like he's got to have connections
- 10:14Speaker 1: because he's like traveled the whole world to swim with crocodiles.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So I have to assume. But Hector runs up after
- 10:21Speaker 1: getting off the helicopter. He is delighted to see Kelly.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He's like, ah, you beat me to it. I'm excited.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Let's go catch this crocodile. And who immediately hates him? Hank,
- 10:31Speaker 1: the sheriff. The sheriff hates him a lot. Their beef
- 10:34Speaker 1: is one for the ages. We love to see it. Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He immediately wants to go out. He's like, we're looking
- 10:41Speaker 1: for a croc. We need to go scout. I'm trying
- 10:43Speaker 1: to figure out what's going on. So this is when
- 10:45Speaker 1: they go out in the canoes. Crazy choice.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I was like, are you serious?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Because they're both not that much bigger anyway. No.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I guess like maybe to keep the noise down, they
- 10:56Speaker 1: were like trying to be discreet. Like this is the
- 10:58Speaker 1: only time we see them on the canoes.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They learn their lesson at least.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah. There's a lot of banter going on. We're starting
- 11:05Speaker 1: to really see the tension between Hank and Hector. One
- 11:09Speaker 1: thing about this movie, it's from the 90s. So Hector
- 11:11Speaker 1: be fat shaming. He's making a lot of stereotypes, cop jokes.
- 11:16Speaker 1: He is like, he's a little brutal. He's coming for him.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And like Hank is doing the same thing to him.
- 11:21Speaker 1: He's like, bro, two can play this game. And the
- 11:24Speaker 1: other two kind of just ignore him. But like Jack
- 11:26Speaker 1: and Kelly kind of just bicker about her being from
- 11:28Speaker 1: the city and not capable of being out in the woods.
- 11:30Speaker 1: That's really what they're bickering about. Mm hmm. The sheriff
- 11:33Speaker 1: and Kelly are thrown into the water. Their canoe is capsized.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So they have to scramble onto the boats. They are successful.
- 11:39Speaker 1: There is no monster scene. They are like, this is
- 11:43Speaker 1: clearly the wrong situation to be in. We got to
- 11:45Speaker 1: get back to camp. Once they get back to camp,
- 11:48Speaker 1: there is a lot of tension. First of all, they
- 11:51Speaker 1: find a human toe.
- 11:52Speaker 2: They do.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And they're like, what's this about? Not sure what's going on.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Hank and Hector are fighting a lot. Hector is like,
- 12:01Speaker 1: Playing loud music and like kind of doing a little
- 12:03Speaker 1: bit of a party at night. And like the sheriff
- 12:05Speaker 1: is like, go to bed. Stop and stop flirting with
- 12:09Speaker 1: my deputy. Get out of here. And then we see
- 12:11Speaker 1: Kelly and Jack getting a little closer. Kelly gives a
- 12:14Speaker 1: lore drop. She tells him about her cheating boyfriend who's
- 12:19Speaker 1: her boss who sent her out there and how she
- 12:21Speaker 1: is trying to lock in. Yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 2: She doesn't want to go back yet.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I also have noted here that Kelly is wearing a
- 12:27Speaker 1: great sweater in this scene. So keep the sweater. Hector
- 12:32Speaker 1: sets a trap in the night and while he's setting
- 12:34Speaker 1: the trap, the sheriff is peeing and he thinks that
- 12:36Speaker 1: something is out there. So he runs over with his
- 12:38Speaker 1: gun and then him and Hector get in this really
- 12:41Speaker 1: big fight about the trap. But Kelly comes to Hector's
- 12:43Speaker 1: defense and she's like, hey, he knows what he's doing.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: He's a pro at crocodiles. We're trusting. And the sheriff
- 12:49Speaker 1: is like, fine, whatever.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And that's the second trap that he put because he
- 12:54Speaker 2: had the other deputies dig a big hole earlier.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yes. Right before the party. He was making them do
- 13:00Speaker 1: that while he was partying, which is so funny.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I'm like, for real. $ 500 is a lot, especially in
- 13:05Speaker 2: the 90s. Yes.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Dude, I'd have taken it.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 13:09Speaker 1: So the next thing we see, they're back out on
- 13:11Speaker 1: the lake. Jack and Hector go on a dive. They
- 13:13Speaker 1: find lots of animal corpses in the water. We're getting
- 13:17Speaker 1: a lot of their POV as they swim. Also, Jack
- 13:20Speaker 1: did not put anything on over his head. And I
- 13:23Speaker 1: feel like that lake was kind of gross. And so
- 13:25Speaker 1: I don't know why his hair was loosey-goosey like that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: That's funny. Do what you want, Jack. They're playing through
- 13:31Speaker 1: a speaker in the water, the sound of baby crocodiles,
- 13:34Speaker 1: to try and get the attention of this crocodile. From
- 13:36Speaker 1: up top, they're controlling the speaker. They're trying to keep
- 13:39Speaker 1: an eye out for the other two, but the water
- 13:40Speaker 1: is really dark in this lake, so they can't really
- 13:42Speaker 1: see them. Yes. Wait. Sorry. To interject, the lake's not
- 13:46Speaker 1: even called Lake Placid. I couldn't believe that. Which is
- 13:49Speaker 1: so funny because there is a real lake called Lake Placid. But, like,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't know if they couldn't get the filming rights
- 13:56Speaker 1: to film there or what the deal was. And so
- 13:58Speaker 1: they were just like, this is a fake Lake Placid. Yeah.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It was like Lake Black or something. I couldn't catch
- 14:04Speaker 2: it when they said it at the very beginning. But
- 14:05Speaker 2: I was like, I wrote that down. It's not even
- 14:07Speaker 2: called Lake Placid.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah. It's so funny. That's one of my favorite little bits, actually. Uh-huh.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But something grabs the anchor chain of the boat. Starts
- 14:18Speaker 1: dragging that through the water. Kelly, as always, falls into
- 14:21Speaker 1: the water. And they turn the boat around to get
- 14:25Speaker 1: to her. And she is saved in time. And right
- 14:27Speaker 1: as she is saved, Jack returns from the water. And
- 14:30Speaker 1: they're like, bro, did you see that? And he's like, no,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I didn't. But I could tell something was going on.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Hector went the other way. And so they're trying to
- 14:37Speaker 1: find Hector. Kelly sees the bubbles in the water. And
- 14:40Speaker 1: they are able... to go and snatch him. And they're like, cool,
- 14:44Speaker 1: everybody's safe. We got to get out of here. And
- 14:47Speaker 1: then we get our first croc sighting. Our deputy named
- 14:54Speaker 1: Burke was driving the boat. And when he leans over
- 14:57Speaker 1: to pull the anchor in, our crocodile jumps out of
- 15:01Speaker 1: the water and decapitates him.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 15:04Speaker 1: So good.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It was so good. I literally went back to watch
- 15:09Speaker 2: it again.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So good. I like the way that Burke's body like
- 15:14Speaker 1: freezes for a second and then stumbles back and falls.
- 15:17Speaker 1: So good. And this death is being kept on the DL.
- 15:21Speaker 1: It's not being released to the media. Nobody's talking about
- 15:23Speaker 1: it because they're like, we want to catch this thing
- 15:27Speaker 1: before anybody figures out about it because this is the
- 15:30Speaker 1: biggest crocodile we've ever seen. There's a lot of tension
- 15:33Speaker 1: at camp. There's always tension at camp as we've learned.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Hector's setting another trap, which really gets the sheriff mad.
- 15:40Speaker 1: He's like, dude, you don't know what you're doing. Get
- 15:42Speaker 1: out of my face. The sheriff is chasing Hector because
- 15:45Speaker 1: he's like, I'm going to shoot you because I hate you.
- 15:47Speaker 1: You're the worst. And out of nowhere, a bear comes
- 15:52Speaker 1: running up on them to attack them. There's their bear.
- 15:55Speaker 1: There's their bear. And they're freaking out. They're right beside
- 15:59Speaker 1: the lake. And out of the lake comes the crocodile.
- 16:03Speaker 1: And he gets that bear and like just pulls him in. Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And they're like, okay.
- 16:09Speaker 2: It is a croc. They believe it now.
- 16:11Speaker 1: It is in fact a crocodile, like full vision. We
- 16:14Speaker 1: saw the whole thing. This is when Hector is like,
- 16:17Speaker 1: this is a 30 foot crocodile, confirmed crocodile. There's something
- 16:22Speaker 1: else they find. A very large footprint. And they discover
- 16:25Speaker 1: another head at camp. And while they're running around finding
- 16:29Speaker 1: all these things on dry land, something is discovered. they
- 16:33Speaker 1: witness Miss Bickerman leading one of her cows, blindfolded.
- 16:37Speaker 2: That poor cow.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Down to the lake. And she feeds this cow to
- 16:43Speaker 1: the crocodile. Yep. So they're like, what the hell, Mrs. Bickerman?
- 16:48Speaker 1: You lied to us.
- 16:49Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 16:50Speaker 1: And they interrogate her. Yeah. And she's like, it's literally
- 16:53Speaker 1: none of you guys' business. Sometimes I feed the crocodile.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It's Fine. And she's like, yes, I didn't murder my husband.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And like basically one of their horses ran to drink
- 17:06Speaker 1: water from the lake. They saw the crocodile coming. Bernie
- 17:09Speaker 1: tried to save the horse. Didn't make it. Snatched.
- 17:14Speaker 2: She's been doing this for six years.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah. So she doesn't blame the croc. She's like, that's
- 17:18Speaker 1: my little guy. He was just doing what he does. Sorry, Bernie. Rip.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And Hector is determined. He's like, I'm going to find
- 17:26Speaker 1: this crocodile. And I'm going to swim with it. So
- 17:28Speaker 1: he goes diving again with the deputy who's in the
- 17:32Speaker 1: helicopter with him. She is mad. She's like, why are
- 17:34Speaker 1: you going into the cove? This is crazy. Don't do this.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And he's like, I got to do it. And while swimming,
- 17:40Speaker 1: he does in fact come face to face with the
- 17:42Speaker 1: crocodile and he regrets everything he's ever done. Yeah. It's
- 17:48Speaker 1: so funny. But he is able to use his life
- 17:51Speaker 1: vest as a distraction to get on the helicopter. The
- 17:54Speaker 1: crocodile does attack the helicopter, but they make it away. Yes.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Right before he got in there with the deputy, he says, darling,
- 18:02Speaker 2: he's not going to hurt me. And then I was like,
- 18:04Speaker 2: oh no, he's toast.
- 18:06Speaker 1: But he was safe. Very cocky of him.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I really liked her. I think she was... My favorite character,
- 18:12Speaker 2: even though she doesn't have much.
- 18:13Speaker 1: The deputy? That's so cute. She's a good side character, honestly.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Even though she's a side character, I fully believe her
- 18:21Speaker 1: as a character. I'm not like, oh, this is just somebody.
- 18:24Speaker 1: And this is something with modern movies that we no
- 18:27Speaker 1: longer have because side characters, I think, don't exist really anymore.
- 18:30Speaker 1: They just throw in some extras for every scene and
- 18:34Speaker 1: side characters never repeat themselves.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 1: This is what we're missing out on. A fun little
- 18:38Speaker 1: flirty deputy who likes the kooky guy. you get a
- 18:41Speaker 1: little bit attached to. Hollywood, take notes. Go back to
- 18:45Speaker 1: Lake Placid.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 1: So most people want to kill the crocodile. Anti-kill are Hector, Kelly,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and Mrs. Bickerman. Mrs. Bickerman, duh, that's her pet. And
- 18:57Speaker 1: Hector and Kelly are like, it's not his fault because
- 19:00Speaker 1: they don't know how the crocodile got there. Right. And
- 19:02Speaker 1: they're like, he must have migrated, which is insane. So
- 19:05Speaker 1: he needs to be studied.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Right. He came so far away.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So far away. All the way to Maine.
- 19:11Speaker 2: At this point, they already know that it's an Asian crocodile.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Is that what they call it?
- 19:17Speaker 1: They're like, we should study it. It's super old. This
- 19:20Speaker 1: is something we need to know. We can learn from
- 19:22Speaker 1: this crocodile. Don't kill it. Jack is like so annoyed
- 19:26Speaker 1: about it. The sheriff absolutely wants to kill it. And
- 19:28Speaker 1: Jack is like, he's already starting to feel some things
- 19:32Speaker 1: for Kelly. You can tell. He never says it, but
- 19:34Speaker 1: you can tell.
- 19:36Speaker 2: And they're like, but how are we going to catch
- 19:37Speaker 2: this thing? It's 30 feet. There's no way.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yep. And so Hector tells them about how they've caught
- 19:43Speaker 1: 20 feet crocodiles before and all they have to do
- 19:46Speaker 1: is shoot it with a dart and knock it out
- 19:49Speaker 1: and then... they can transport it. Yeah. And finally, they
- 19:52Speaker 1: begrudgingly agree to the plan. So like they have to
- 19:55Speaker 1: get all these net traps that Hector does out there.
- 19:58Speaker 1: They kidnap one of Mrs. Biggerman's cows to use as bait.
- 20:02Speaker 2: It's so sad. I was so sad.
- 20:06Speaker 1: That poor cow.
- 20:07Speaker 2: They wanted her to like swim in the water. So
- 20:10Speaker 2: they just put her down a little bit. And then
- 20:12Speaker 2: she got tired.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yes, they just dangled her from the helicopter. Yeah, it
- 20:15Speaker 1: took hours because the crocodile just ate a cow. But yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 1: after hours, the croc is finally coming up to the shore.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And they do dart the crocodile. But a lot of
- 20:25Speaker 1: chaos happens when they lose control of the copter. It
- 20:29Speaker 1: crashes into the water. So Hector is stuck on this
- 20:32Speaker 1: helicopter while the crocodile is kind of trying to get
- 20:34Speaker 1: to Hector. But then the crocodile comes on to shore and, like,
- 20:37Speaker 1: is chasing everybody around. Kelly, of course, as always, falls
- 20:41Speaker 1: out of the car. And, like, there's no way for
- 20:43Speaker 1: her to run but towards the water. And Hector is like,
- 20:45Speaker 1: come get on the helicopter with me.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's chasing her the whole time.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Chasing her the whole time. And she almost dies.
- 20:54Speaker 2: By drowning, not even the crocodile.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Because she protected herself with that. Tree or whatever it was.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yes. Her shoe just got stuck or her pants leg
- 21:04Speaker 1: or something got stuck to a branch. Whenever the crocodile
- 21:06Speaker 1: bites the tree or post or whatever it is, she
- 21:09Speaker 1: is able to swim up to the surface and get
- 21:11Speaker 1: on the helicopter with Hector. The croc has one more strategy,
- 21:15Speaker 1: which is to try and jump through the doors of
- 21:18Speaker 1: the helicopter to get Hector and Kelly, but it gets stuck.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And once they get to the shore, the sheriff has
- 21:24Speaker 1: the gun out ready to shoot the crocodile and kill it.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But he's starting to feel guilt.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Because he's like, are you sure?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah. They're like, he's trapped. Look, he's not even fighting anymore.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Like the drugs are kicking in. Right. Don't do it.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Don't do it. And then Jack gets mad and he's like,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I'll do it. And then Kelly is like, please don't
- 21:46Speaker 1: do it. And he takes a gun from one of
- 21:50Speaker 1: the deputies and he shoots it, but it's just another
- 21:53Speaker 1: dart of the drugs. So he tricks her. Yeah. Very funny.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And then just as everybody's like, we did it. We
- 22:00Speaker 1: have nothing else to stress about. Another crocodile.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Much smaller.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Jumps through the waters. It is smaller, yes.
- 22:08Speaker 2: He grabs Hector, pulls him in.
- 22:11Speaker 1: He does. He grabs his foot and he's like, get
- 22:13Speaker 1: in here. And this time the sheriff is like, Because
- 22:15Speaker 1: even though they fight, that's his man.
- 22:17Speaker 2: That's his bestie.
- 22:19Speaker 1: That's his bestie. And so he shoots it in the
- 22:21Speaker 1: head and he's like, it blows up.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Very funny. And then right after that happens, Fish and
- 22:30Speaker 1: Wildlife from Florida shows up, who they've been waiting for
- 22:32Speaker 1: the whole movie.
- 22:34Speaker 2: They're like, we have to trap this before they get
- 22:36Speaker 2: here or they'll never let us do it.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they wanted to just kill it. So they show
- 22:41Speaker 1: up and they're like, cool. I guess we can keep
- 22:43Speaker 1: the gator since you guys caught it and it's drugged.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Hector has to go in the ambulance. The sheriff goes
- 22:49Speaker 1: with him.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah. But Kelly and Jack are like, um, not us. Yes.
- 22:57Speaker 1: It's so good. And then Jack and Kelly are about
- 23:00Speaker 1: to go their separate ways. And she's like, yeah, I
- 23:03Speaker 1: guess I have to go back to the museum. And
- 23:06Speaker 1: he's like, Oh, you can ride in my car if
- 23:09Speaker 1: you want. And she's like, well, I was going to
- 23:10Speaker 1: stay at the lake a little longer. And then he
- 23:13Speaker 1: was like, bye. So once he gets in his car,
- 23:16Speaker 1: she comes up and she's like, what? You don't make
- 23:18Speaker 1: any moves?
- 23:19Speaker 2: Shy boy.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And then she gets in the car and they go
- 23:21Speaker 1: to a bar to get some drinks.
- 23:23Speaker 2: You see the cow walk out of the water?
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yes. Our cow lives. She survived that. I don't know
- 23:29Speaker 1: where she went while all that was going on, but
- 23:30Speaker 1: she found a safe spot.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Thank God.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, for real. Because dying in a helicopter crash is
- 23:35Speaker 1: way worse than dying via crocodile. But that's the end
- 23:39Speaker 1: of the movie until we see Betty White sitting on
- 23:43Speaker 1: her dock, throwing some stuff in the water to baby crocodiles.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There's like five or six of them.
- 23:50Speaker 2: There's a lot. They were cute.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah. And then we do get a fun little scene
- 23:56Speaker 1: in the credits of the big croc being transported via
- 24:00Speaker 1: semi all the way to, I think, one.
- 24:02Speaker 2: It was giving the full house scene where they're all
- 24:04Speaker 2: in the car on the bridge and it like pans up. Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 1: It like zooms out. There's like all the cars surrounding it.
- 24:12Speaker 1: So good. It's so good. Yeah. But that is Lake Placid, everyone.
- 24:19Speaker 2: What did you give it?
- 24:21Speaker 1: I gave it four stars.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Me too.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Love, love, love, love, love this movie. This was my Meemaw's.
- 24:26Speaker 1: It was one of her favorite movies. She thought it
- 24:28Speaker 1: was so funny. And so it's one that I think
- 24:30Speaker 1: I was definitely a little too young to watch the
- 24:31Speaker 1: first time I watched it. But I think it was
- 24:33Speaker 1: very personality forming for me. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Have you seen the sequels?
- 24:37Speaker 1: I have not. Don't know if my Meemaw watched them,
- 24:40Speaker 1: but if she did, she didn't like them because she
- 24:41Speaker 1: only ever wanted to watch the first one. She thought
- 24:43Speaker 1: it was so funny and Betty White was her favorite character. Iconic.
- 24:47Speaker 1: My review was in my top three creature features, the
- 24:51Speaker 1: haters have no whimsy because a lot of people hate
- 24:53Speaker 1: this movie apparently.
- 24:55Speaker 2: That's crazy. It's so funny.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It's so funny.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I wrote down like a bunch of quotes too.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I was saying then I put my favorite quote,
- 25:02Speaker 1: which is from Hector when he's face to face with
- 25:03Speaker 1: the gator and he says, Suddenly I feel a bit
- 25:06Speaker 1: foolish here.
- 25:07Speaker 2: That's a good one.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yeah. What was your review?
- 25:12Speaker 2: I said a bad time to be a girl with
- 25:16Speaker 2: a cow tattoo.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yes, that is what you said.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I love cows. They were so cute. Some of the
- 25:23Speaker 2: quotes that I wrote down, though, this one happened right
- 25:25Speaker 2: at the end when they get in the truck and
- 25:28Speaker 2: he's like, I'm going to take you to the burn town.
- 25:30Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And she's like, are they clean? Like, are the dishes clean?
- 25:34Speaker 2: And then he says something else and he's like, you're
- 25:36Speaker 2: going to complain the whole time. Like, I feel that.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yes. Honestly, I have faith for them because he knows
- 25:44Speaker 1: exactly what he's getting into with her, you know?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:47Speaker 1: He's witnessed her at her worst.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Their bickering was so fun.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 2: One of my first things I was like, enemies to lovers,
- 25:55Speaker 2: the sexual tension. That's when they all meet outside in
- 25:58Speaker 2: that parking lot.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Bro.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I was like, dang, this is going to be good.
- 26:02Speaker 1: A very funny review I saw was like, waiting for
- 26:05Speaker 1: the AO3 tags to blow up for Hank slash Hector.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And that made me laugh really hard. That's funny.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they were cute. One of my other quotes that
- 26:14Speaker 2: I wrote down was Hector. And he said, am I
- 26:17Speaker 2: foolish to explain things? He had such trouble with my name.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 2: It had a lot of good one-liners like that.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I find the dynamic to be so similar to Jurassic
- 26:30Speaker 1: Park because you do have the paleontologist, you do have
- 26:32Speaker 1: the scientist that's like super whimsical. Hector's the Jeff Goldblum,
- 26:35Speaker 1: you know? But they just mixed it up a little
- 26:38Speaker 1: bit by having Jack and Kelly like did not have
- 26:40Speaker 1: the prior relationship and then they just added the coppet.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It's like literally if everybody in Jurassic Park hated each other,
- 26:46Speaker 1: that's what Lake Placid is. And I love it so much.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, at the beginning I wrote I think it was
- 26:54Speaker 2: during the opening credits. I said, it's giving Jurassic Park
- 26:57Speaker 2: and it was pretty.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yes. I wrote some V pretty nature shots. It's pretty short.
- 27:04Speaker 2: It's not even an hour and a half and I
- 27:06Speaker 2: didn't feel too short. I thought it was a perfect
- 27:08Speaker 2: runtime and like it was straight to the point. There
- 27:11Speaker 2: was never any dull moments I felt.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Oh, it's so good. I had watched it in forever.
- 27:16Speaker 1: It was perfect.
- 27:18Speaker 2: The jump scares. They had good ones.
- 27:19Speaker 1: They had great ones. The head. The fish. The fish, bro.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I have two mini segments, really. Okay. My first one
- 27:32Speaker 1: is I wrote down everything that to me was a
- 27:35Speaker 1: little bit of a plot hole that I was like,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I don't want to remember that. Okay. The first one
- 27:41Speaker 1: is the tooth size. The tooth that they pulled out
- 27:44Speaker 1: and they gave to Kelly was so tiny. It was
- 27:48Speaker 1: so little. It was. I was like, this is supposed
- 27:50Speaker 1: to be a giant crocodile. They called him the paleontologist.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Because they were like, this might be a fault. Come on, guys. Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Well, maybe the back teeth are smaller or something.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Maybe he's got smaller teeth somewhere in there.
- 28:05Speaker 1: My second one is because the crocodile is actually not
- 28:08Speaker 1: seen when eating the head off of Burke. It's just
- 28:12Speaker 1: like a splash of water and then the head is gone.
- 28:15Speaker 1: What you mean they didn't see the head? What you
- 28:17Speaker 1: mean they didn't see the head? Come on. Come on. Also.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Whenever it attacks the guy in the very beginning who's
- 28:26Speaker 1: tagging the beavers, it's like dragging him around at the surface.
- 28:30Speaker 1: There's no way the sheriff wouldn't have seen him. I've
- 28:32Speaker 1: seen alligators at the top of the water. Yeah. And
- 28:36Speaker 1: he's dragging this guy around? No. No. That's not happening. Yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 1: None of the people who are fed to the croc,
- 28:44Speaker 1: the sheriff or the wildlife people, none of them are like,
- 28:47Speaker 1: I wonder if this is this missing hiker. They're all
- 28:49Speaker 1: just like, Yep. That's a head. Yeah. The head. Yep.
- 28:53Speaker 2: The toe. Yeah. That was weird. The sheriff, you would
- 28:57Speaker 2: think he would care about that. Yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I wish he could have connected it to some hikers
- 29:01Speaker 1: that went missing, especially the head because that's a head.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I just thought of one. If you don't say this,
- 29:06Speaker 2: I'm going to bring it up.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Okay. Definitely do. Because my last one is that the
- 29:10Speaker 1: croc can't bite through the tree. Yeah. Crocodiles, their closing
- 29:15Speaker 1: strength Because like crocodiles and alligators, their opening strength is weak.
- 29:19Speaker 1: It's their closing strength is like ridiculous. And you're telling
- 29:22Speaker 1: me that he bit this man in half at the
- 29:25Speaker 1: beginning of the movie. He's biting through bones and flesh
- 29:28Speaker 1: and so much. But he can't bite through a waterlogged tree? Yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 1: What's yours?
- 29:37Speaker 2: Mine was when they took... their truck there but then
- 29:42Speaker 2: they have all their stuff on the boat still so
- 29:44Speaker 2: it felt like they parked their truck in one place
- 29:47Speaker 2: and then had to get on the boat to get
- 29:48Speaker 2: across to where they were gonna set up camp and
- 29:51Speaker 2: then like when they get there everyone else's trucks are
- 29:53Speaker 2: there and they're setting up so i was confused Maybe
- 29:57Speaker 2: it's just more of a me plot hole than an
- 29:59Speaker 2: actual plot hole, but I was confused why it felt
- 30:03Speaker 2: like they needed to take a boat there.
- 30:06Speaker 1: That is true. To give us the lake scene, they
- 30:09Speaker 1: were like, we'll just let them ride the boat over there.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Because their camp was near Mrs. Bickerman's, and she has
- 30:15Speaker 1: to be able to get out to go to town.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you can see part of her driveway, her gravel driveway.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They definitely used her driveway. That was their access road.
- 30:23Speaker 1: There's no way it wasn't. So there are plow holes
- 30:29Speaker 1: for the movie. And then my next mini segment is
- 30:32Speaker 1: Mandela effects because I have two. Oh, okay. That I
- 30:35Speaker 1: distinctly remember when watching this movie as a kid. Like
- 30:40Speaker 1: I remember it so well. The first one is I
- 30:44Speaker 1: was sure that we had a scene of the crocodile
- 30:47Speaker 1: running through the woods. Like them like running on land
- 30:51Speaker 1: from the crocodile. Yeah. I was waiting for that scene
- 30:54Speaker 1: the whole time because I was like, that's such an
- 30:55Speaker 1: iconic scene. It's so good. And then it wasn't there.
- 30:57Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And then my second one is that I can remember
- 31:03Speaker 1: a flashback scene of Betty White killing her husband and
- 31:07Speaker 1: like it being purposeful. And so I was so confused
- 31:10Speaker 1: about that because we see the cow scene and then
- 31:12Speaker 1: like later when they're interrogating her, I remembered a flashback
- 31:15Speaker 1: scene after the interrogation of her leading her husband to
- 31:19Speaker 1: the shore to get eaten. I didn't remember why, but
- 31:22Speaker 1: whenever she said he was sick, I was like, oh,
- 31:23Speaker 1: that's what it was. He's sick. And so she was like,
- 31:25Speaker 1: this guy is going through it. I'm just going to
- 31:27Speaker 1: feed him to the croc. Yeah. But that never happened. Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Well, in the second time they meet up with her,
- 31:33Speaker 2: they joke that she blindfolded him and led him to
- 31:35Speaker 2: the lake. So maybe that's what you were thinking of.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And like you thought that you saw that when you
- 31:41Speaker 2: were a kid, when they mentioned that.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It just like was kind of in the back of
- 31:45Speaker 1: my head.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. You saw a version with deleted scenes, maybe. You'll
- 31:49Speaker 2: have to look it up.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Ooh. Ooh, that's fun. Okay.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Find the DVD or something.
- 31:54Speaker 1: We did have the DVD. Mm-hmm. I'm going to have
- 31:58Speaker 1: to look into that. And if it's not on DVD,
- 32:01Speaker 1: our fans need to comment and tell me if they
- 32:02Speaker 1: also have these Mandela effects. are two fans.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:08Speaker 1: They need to let me know if they've seen this
- 32:10Speaker 1: movie and if they have these Mandela effects. When I
- 32:12Speaker 1: didn't get the crocodile running through the woods, I was baffled.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it. I was so upset. I was like,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you get out of my face.
- 32:19Speaker 2: That would have been a really funny scene.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yes. And it's so good. And he's like whipping his
- 32:24Speaker 1: head around, like hitting trees and shit. It's so good.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Maybe it could have chased Kelly when she fell off
- 32:31Speaker 2: a little bit and then she ended up back in
- 32:33Speaker 2: the water. To go to the helicopter. They could have
- 32:35Speaker 2: put that in there.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I can still see the scene in my head. It
- 32:39Speaker 1: was straight out of the lake. They're running. And then
- 32:43Speaker 1: there's like a path. It's chasing them down the path
- 32:45Speaker 1: and it's whipping its head and its tail around. Also,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I want to shout out because I didn't realize this
- 32:52Speaker 1: when I was younger. But the crocodiles are puppets. Oh,
- 32:56Speaker 1: that's cool. Yeah. I didn't know until I was watching
- 32:58Speaker 1: the movie and they had in the credits was their
- 33:00Speaker 1: puppetry people. And there was like six to eight people
- 33:02Speaker 1: who did puppet stuff. So I'm assuming it's the crocodiles
- 33:05Speaker 1: that are puppets because I don't.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Know what else it would be.
- 33:07Speaker 1: But I love special effects, everybody. I love them. I
- 33:09Speaker 1: love them. I love them. And that was a really
- 33:11Speaker 1: good crocodile because I was wondering how they did it
- 33:13Speaker 1: because I knew it was an older movie and I
- 33:14Speaker 1: meant to Google it, but I'm the worst because I
- 33:16Speaker 1: was like, if this is CGI, it's really good CGI.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I think the bear was CGI because he looked a
- 33:21Speaker 2: little off. Unless he was also a puppet. But that
- 33:25Speaker 2: scene was so fast.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I can see everything else being puppet.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Let me Google so fast. It's a bear prop. Okay.
- 33:37Speaker 1: AI overview. I'm so sorry, guys, because this is a
- 33:39Speaker 1: quick Google. The creature, the giant 30-foot monster in the film,
- 33:44Speaker 1: was a full-size animatronic puppet, a hydraulic model built by
- 33:48Speaker 1: the legendary Stan Winston Studio. along with some CGI work
- 33:52Speaker 1: by Digital Domain. The bear sequence was violent enough that
- 33:55Speaker 1: production had to clarify to animal rights groups that no
- 33:57Speaker 1: real animals were harmed.
- 33:58Speaker 2: That's funny. I wanted to look up the cows for
- 34:01Speaker 2: that website when we watched Homeward Bound. I was curious
- 34:06Speaker 2: about the cows because that looked like a real cow
- 34:08Speaker 2: dangling from a helicopter.
- 34:09Speaker 1: That was absolutely a real cow. It had to have been.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And its moose, those were too real. Those were too real. Mm-hmm.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Especially in the water, too. Kick in.
- 34:19Speaker 1: It looked real. It was so cute. Poor girl. Another
- 34:25Speaker 1: review I saw that made me laugh was they were like,
- 34:27Speaker 1: Betty White was a well-known animals rights activist. How the
- 34:31Speaker 1: hell did they get her in this movie?
- 34:33Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And I was like, because she recognizes good cinema, guys. Because,
- 34:39Speaker 1: spoiler alert, guys, there's a lot of haters on Letterboxd
- 34:42Speaker 1: for this movie. They were saying it was the worst
- 34:44Speaker 1: movie they ever saw. They were saying the plot was
- 34:45Speaker 1: dumb and didn't make sense.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I did see the plot. And I was like, that
- 34:48Speaker 2: there was none. I was like, what?
- 34:50Speaker 1: The whole plot is a monster.
- 34:52Speaker 2: What's the average rating? 2.8.
- 34:56Speaker 1: People were haters, so. Also, fun fact, up until yesterday,
- 35:03Speaker 1: I thought that Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman were the
- 35:05Speaker 1: same person.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Who's Bill Paxton?
- 35:08Speaker 1: He is the lead in Twisters, or Twister.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Oh, that's funny.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I don't know why I like forgot the last name
- 35:15Speaker 1: Paxton and so like I knew Bill Pullman was in
- 35:16Speaker 1: this and whenever it came up I was like that's
- 35:19Speaker 1: not the guy from Twister and so then I had
- 35:21Speaker 1: to look up the cast of Twister and I was
- 35:22Speaker 1: like oh I had no idea I always just like
- 35:26Speaker 1: gave Bill Pullman all of Bill Paxton's credit that's funny
- 35:29Speaker 1: sorry to Bill Paxton letterboxed oh yeah letterboxed.
- 35:38Speaker 2: My first one Betty White is forgiven for all crimes
- 35:41Speaker 2: your honor Yes.
- 35:43Speaker 1: And I love that they were never like, we got
- 35:45Speaker 1: to figure out how to charge this lady. They were
- 35:47Speaker 1: just like, whatever.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yeah. She's like, this is not a crime.
- 35:52Speaker 1: The deputy that has to sit with her at her
- 35:54Speaker 1: house while they're hunting the crocodile, he looks so miserable
- 35:58Speaker 1: to be there. And she's like, what are they going
- 36:00Speaker 1: to do? Arrest me? And he's like, I don't know.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:05Speaker 1: My first one is, what can I say? I love
- 36:08Speaker 1: a freaking creature feature. Nice.
- 36:13Speaker 2: My second one. That chick likes to fall out of
- 36:15Speaker 2: every vehicle she finds herself in.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So true. For real. If you want a new drinking
- 36:21Speaker 1: game for this movie, take a shot every time she
- 36:23Speaker 1: falls out of something. Yeah. My second one. The main
- 36:26Speaker 1: four should all go on a double date together.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Aw. My last one. Thank goodness the cow is safe. OMG.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Crying emoji. Hands emoji.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yes.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Real.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Thank God for that cow, honestly. My last one. You
- 36:43Speaker 1: may not like it, but this is what peak cinema
- 36:46Speaker 1: looks like. Oh. And that's the best one. And that's
- 36:53Speaker 1: Lake Placid. Yes, it is. What movie did we watch next, Jordan?
- 37:03Speaker 2: We watched Trick or Treat.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Scary. That's so funny.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I can't believe you think it's scary.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I think it's so scary.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I can pick out a scene or two that I
- 37:16Speaker 2: think is scary. We can talk about it when they
- 37:18Speaker 2: come up.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I'd be like, is this what you were scary? And
- 37:20Speaker 2: then just interject. And then you're like, that was so scary.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Okay. I can do that for sure. Okay.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Do you want to give us the synopsis?
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yes. Trick or Treat is an anthology and it has
- 37:35Speaker 1: four stories that it is showing us throughout the movie
- 37:39Speaker 1: and eventually they all kind of tie in together. And
- 37:43Speaker 1: there's something in this small Ohio town that is causing
- 37:48Speaker 1: havoc and scares and chaos and death.
- 37:54Speaker 2: And we're trying to figure out what that's good. Spoiler alert.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Its name is Sam.
- 37:59Speaker 1: When did they ever say his name? Um, I don't know.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Now that you say that. Because I didn't think it
- 38:05Speaker 1: was Sam until I looked at the reviews. I was like, Sam?
- 38:09Speaker 1: I was sure. I'm not sure.
- 38:11Speaker 2: I think Rhonda mentions him. The one that gets bullied.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah. When would she mention him though?
- 38:18Speaker 2: He's supposed to be like the spirit of Halloween.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Oh, when she does the Halloween lore drop. Okay. Okay.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I missed that. I was giggling because she's funny. I
- 38:26Speaker 1: like Rhonda.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I'll do my facts. Released October 6th. 2009 in theaters.
- 38:35Speaker 2: But it was actually premiered at Buttnumathon Festival on December 9, 2007.
- 38:43Speaker 2: So it took almost two years for the movie to
- 38:45Speaker 2: come out. It's distributed by Warner Brothers. Shout out. We
- 38:48Speaker 2: like them.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Warner Bros.
- 38:50Speaker 2: It is written and directed by Michael Daugherty. It stars
- 38:54Speaker 2: Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, and Quinn Lord.
- 38:59Speaker 1: It was sneaky. There was a lot of people that
- 39:01Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I know you.
- 39:02Speaker 2: The budget was $ 12 million. The box office, you're not
- 39:08Speaker 2: going to believe it, $ 27, 909. Very limited theater release.
- 39:15Speaker 1: That's so funny.
- 39:17Speaker 2: And then it basically went straight to DVD.
- 39:19Speaker 1: In my opinion, valid box office. It's rated R.
- 39:24Speaker 2: It is a horror comedy, and you can watch it
- 39:27Speaker 2: on HBO.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Let's get into it.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Okay. So the movie starts. It's technically the end of
- 39:35Speaker 2: the movie, which you find out after we go through
- 39:38Speaker 2: all these stories. But there's this couple, they're coming back
- 39:41Speaker 2: from partying on Halloween. The lady, she puts the light
- 39:45Speaker 2: out of her pumpkin and Goes inside. She's literally taken
- 39:49Speaker 2: down all her decorations on Halloween night. That's crazy.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Yeah, like go to bed, girl.
- 39:54Speaker 2: No wonder she gets murdered by Sam in five minutes.
- 39:58Speaker 2: But he hangs her body up in the trees and
- 40:02Speaker 2: then the husband finds her head on a cross.
- 40:05Speaker 1: That scared me.
- 40:07Speaker 2: That scared you? Yes.
- 40:09Speaker 1: What was in her mouth? I didn't like that.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Something in her mouth that was keeping it open and
- 40:14Speaker 1: I didn't like it. I wasn't expecting to see her
- 40:17Speaker 1: decapitated head.
- 40:20Speaker 2: That's funny. And then we get our opening credits.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yes. I liked the opening credits. They were good.
- 40:26Speaker 2: This is also a comic Sam story. Sam as an individual.
- 40:31Speaker 1: So that's why they had a little like earlier and stuff. Yeah.
- 40:34Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Okay. They just released. Well, it's being released in 2026.
- 40:40Speaker 2: More stories, I think, of Sam. Anyway, the movie sets.
- 40:45Speaker 2: In Ohio, it's Halloween night. We're going to experience four
- 40:48Speaker 2: different interconnecting stories. And we're introduced to Lori and her
- 40:53Speaker 2: sisters and her friends. And they're trying on Halloween costumes.
- 40:57Speaker 2: There's a little boy peeping Tom looking through.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 2: That little boy plays Sam.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Oh, that's fun.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Fun fact. She doesn't like her costume. She's Little
- 41:09Speaker 2: Red Riding Hood. But her sister's like, it's tradition. You
- 41:13Speaker 2: have to wear it.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Sorry. Sorry.
- 41:15Speaker 2: We kind of like put a hold on her story
- 41:17Speaker 2: until the very end. You see her in little bits
- 41:20Speaker 2: of it in pauses in the other stories of her
- 41:22Speaker 2: just like walking or talking to her sister, but she
- 41:24Speaker 2: doesn't really have a big role until the end. And
- 41:28Speaker 2: we see this little boy, Charlie. We've seen Charlie before.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Do you recognize him?
- 41:32Speaker 1: Yes. He was unaccompanied minors. Mm-hmm. Beef.
- 41:37Speaker 2: He's walking along the sidewalk smashing pumpkins and he comes
- 41:40Speaker 2: up to his principal's house, Stephen Wilkins. He's like, Come
- 41:45Speaker 2: up here. Eat this piece of chocolate, little boy. And
- 41:49Speaker 2: he's like, don't forget, it's trick or treat. And he
- 41:53Speaker 2: poisoned the chocolate. And he throws up blood everywhere and
- 41:57Speaker 2: kills him.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Rip.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Did that scare you? I felt like that would be scary.
- 42:01Speaker 1: That didn't scare me. Well, because at first I thought
- 42:04Speaker 1: it was the razor blade. I literally wrote, so I put...
- 42:07Speaker 1: Razor blade, classic. Yeah. And I had to do an
- 42:09Speaker 1: arrow and I was like, poison? Question mark? Because I
- 42:12Speaker 1: was like, he would have bombed up that razor blade
- 42:15Speaker 1: by now.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's funny. Which you do see a chocolate razor
- 42:19Speaker 2: blade at the end.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yes. I just also wanted to say I really liked
- 42:23Speaker 1: a line here. Whenever he gets caught, the principal goes,
- 42:26Speaker 1: don't waste a lie on this. Because I thought that
- 42:29Speaker 1: was really funny.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah. He's a creepy looking principal.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:33Speaker 2: So he's bringing Charlie inside. There's a knock on the
- 42:37Speaker 2: door and it's three little kids who are part of
- 42:40Speaker 2: the next story. So you just see them. They're going
- 42:42Speaker 2: around looking for pumpkins for their prank. That's going to
- 42:45Speaker 2: happen later in the night. We have a little scene
- 42:48Speaker 2: of Lori. She's still looking for a date to her party.
- 42:52Speaker 2: They're just like, pick one. And she's like, you're a virgin.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Just pick somebody.
- 42:56Speaker 1: She's like, no.
- 42:57Speaker 2: And then we get the rest of the principal's main scene,
- 43:02Speaker 2: I guess. He is digging a grave. He throws somebody inside.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I will get more into this when we finish his story.
- 43:10Speaker 2: His son Billy's upstairs. He interrupts. He's like, we got
- 43:14Speaker 2: to carve the pumpkin. I need you to help me
- 43:16Speaker 2: with the eyes. And Stephen's like, shut up. I'll get
- 43:19Speaker 2: there in a second. He's making all this noise. And
- 43:23Speaker 2: you see Mr. Krieg, his neighbor, who also has a story,
- 43:27Speaker 2: he's yelling at his dog and he's yelling at Steven, like,
- 43:30Speaker 2: what are you doing? Why does it smell so bad
- 43:32Speaker 2: out here? And so you see him. Billy's like making
- 43:36Speaker 2: more noise upstairs. And then the little boy in the
- 43:40Speaker 2: grave wakes up and he's got to kill him basically
- 43:44Speaker 2: before he makes too much noise. And he stabs him
- 43:47Speaker 2: with a shovel a bunch of times.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Rude. And so after that, he buries it. He's got
- 43:52Speaker 2: blood all over him. Mr. Krieg's now banging on his window,
- 43:56Speaker 2: yelling things.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Help.
- 43:57Speaker 2: It's just help. He ignores Mr. Krieg and goes inside.
- 44:00Speaker 2: He takes a knife from his kitchen. He's going to
- 44:03Speaker 2: go downstairs with Billy to carve this pumpkin. It's set
- 44:07Speaker 2: up like he's going to murder his son because he's
- 44:09Speaker 2: annoyed with the son.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he does not like him.
- 44:12Speaker 2: It's really funny. And so they get down there and
- 44:14Speaker 2: he like stabs something and there's blood on the knife
- 44:17Speaker 2: and you think it's Billy, but it's actually Charlie's head.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yes. Which confused me. I know.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And so part of my segment, I had to look
- 44:25Speaker 2: up something and it clarified. Apparently that was not Charlie
- 44:29Speaker 2: in the grave. That was just another little boy. Some
- 44:32Speaker 2: random little boy he was burying. Because I was like,
- 44:34Speaker 2: he didn't carry Charlie's head in. So how could Charlie's
- 44:36Speaker 2: head be down there?
- 44:37Speaker 1: But I thought that he told Charlie to shut up
- 44:40Speaker 1: while he was like, I thought he said, Charlie, shut up.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Like, I don't know what he whispers.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 44:46Speaker 2: It's either a really bad plot hole or there is
- 44:49Speaker 2: an explanation for some other unnamed little boy in that grave.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Okay. Also, they don't ever do anything with Charlie's head.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't see it.
- 44:58Speaker 1: That annoyed me.
- 44:59Speaker 2: They should have had it sitting in the background behind
- 45:01Speaker 2: Billy at the very end when he's passing out candy. Yes.
- 45:05Speaker 1: They needed to tie that in somehow because I was like, cool.
- 45:08Speaker 1: So they did all this shit to Charlie and for what?
- 45:10Speaker 2: For what?
- 45:11Speaker 1: Like, what the hell? Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 2: That kind of pauses Stephen's story. for the most part,
- 45:17Speaker 2: until the very end. And then we see the kids again.
- 45:20Speaker 2: They go up to another teacher and ask for a pumpkin.
- 45:23Speaker 2: And they pick up who they call the weird girl
- 45:25Speaker 2: of their school, Rhonda, because they're going to bully her
- 45:28Speaker 2: and prank her bad.
- 45:30Speaker 1: They drop some problematic language in here.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It's so evil.
- 45:35Speaker 1: It's so evil. I was really mad. I don't like
- 45:37Speaker 1: these kids.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but they get what was coming to them.
- 45:40Speaker 1: One of these kids is Jean-Luc something. I don't remember
- 45:42Speaker 1: his last name, but he plays Ben Wheeler in Baby Daddy.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And we've seen him before. We have?
- 45:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Which one?
- 45:49Speaker 1: It's a You movie.
- 45:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 45:52Speaker 1: It's LOL.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Oh, he's her bestie that goes to a different school.
- 45:58Speaker 2: That's funny. I knew who he was. I recognized him.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I love him.
- 46:03Speaker 2: We get a little pause on the kids. We see
- 46:05Speaker 2: a girl making out with some guy dressed in a
- 46:08Speaker 2: cloak and He's supposed to be a vampire. He bites
- 46:11Speaker 2: her everywhere. She bleeds out, dies. As she's running back
- 46:15Speaker 2: into the block party where everyone's outside, you see the
- 46:19Speaker 2: couple from the very beginning of the movie who was murdered.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And they're like, leave her alone. She's drunk. So everything
- 46:26Speaker 2: is connected. I really like those kind of movies.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Yes. The interconnection was done very well. That's why I
- 46:31Speaker 1: wanted to give it lower stars, but I was like,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I really can't because there are aspects of this that
- 46:36Speaker 1: were done very well.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. And then we get back to the kids. I
- 46:39Speaker 2: don't really like their story much. I always kind of
- 46:43Speaker 2: skip it.
- 46:43Speaker 1: So mean.
- 46:44Speaker 2: But basically they're going to pay their respects to some
- 46:48Speaker 2: kids from like, they called it the Halloween school bus massacre.
- 46:52Speaker 2: And basically it's a town legend where a bunch of kids,
- 46:57Speaker 2: it's implied that they have disabilities and like their parents
- 46:59Speaker 2: hate them for that. And so they pay off the
- 47:02Speaker 2: bus driver to drive the bus off a cliff into
- 47:06Speaker 2: the quarry. to kill them. And so that's this legend
- 47:12Speaker 2: and they're going to go. And basically what the kids do,
- 47:15Speaker 2: they trick Rhonda into going down there with them and
- 47:20Speaker 2: they like put on zombie stuff to look like real
- 47:23Speaker 2: zombies and they chase her and scare her. And then
- 47:26Speaker 2: she hits her head. They're like, oh my God, did
- 47:28Speaker 2: we kill her? But she wakes up. She's fine. They're like,
- 47:32Speaker 2: oh my God, so sorry. It's just a prank. And
- 47:34Speaker 2: then the boy, baby daddy boy, He stays with her
- 47:38Speaker 2: and tells the other three to go clean up. We
- 47:41Speaker 2: did way too much.
- 47:42Speaker 1: He was the only one that had a conscience there. Yeah.
- 47:45Speaker 2: They're like kicking the pumpkins into the water. You can
- 47:48Speaker 2: see when Rhonda went down there that there's a school
- 47:50Speaker 2: bus in the water. So at least the legend is true.
- 47:54Speaker 2: They start hearing sounds of kids around them. And then
- 47:57Speaker 2: you just hear like their distant screams. It cuts back
- 48:00Speaker 2: to Rhonda and the boy. And basically the three kids
- 48:04Speaker 2: run up to them and they're like, oh my God,
- 48:05Speaker 2: we got to get out of here. It's real. There
- 48:07Speaker 2: are things down here with us. And I don't know
- 48:09Speaker 2: how she gets to the lift before them, the little elevator.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 48:14Speaker 2: The zombies are there. The kids, they come up. Rhonda's like,
- 48:18Speaker 2: peace out. I'm leaving you down here in the quarry
- 48:20Speaker 2: with them.
- 48:21Speaker 1: She goes up.
- 48:22Speaker 2: You can hear their screams and them dying from the zombies.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Yes, the zombies scared me. That was what I figured
- 48:30Speaker 1: would have been scary. I didn't like the zombies. They
- 48:33Speaker 1: were really scary. And I want to read to you
- 48:34Speaker 1: my notes throughout this whole sequence, which is, I don't
- 48:37Speaker 1: like this school bus story. And then I put Rhonda
- 48:40Speaker 1: with a heart by her name because I loved her.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I was like, this is the scene whenever she was, like,
- 48:45Speaker 1: doing the lore drop, I think. And then she, like,
- 48:48Speaker 1: asks the one kid. Because she, like, realizes. She was like,
- 48:51Speaker 1: that was kind of freak behavior of me. So she's
- 48:53Speaker 1: just like... what's your favorite candy or something like that?
- 48:57Speaker 2: She's like, I like your nose or I like your
- 48:59Speaker 2: mustache or something.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Your wig. Yeah, your eye patch.
- 49:02Speaker 2: I like your eye patch. I like your eye patch.
- 49:04Speaker 1: So funny. I was like, the way that she clocked, like,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I was a little creepy just now. And then autocorrected.
- 49:11Speaker 1: And so then my next note is, that bus wasn't
- 49:14Speaker 1: even a little hidden. It was an evil prank. And
- 49:16Speaker 1: then I said, damn, low-key, they deserved it, though.
- 49:20Speaker 2: They did deserve it. That was a bad prank.
- 49:23Speaker 1: That was a bad prank, and I hated that school
- 49:25Speaker 1: bus story. It made me want to peel my skin off.
- 49:28Speaker 1: It made me so sad. I didn't like the way
- 49:31Speaker 1: they were talking about these special needs kids. I was like...
- 49:34Speaker 1: Bad plot. Bad plot line there. Evil. Which I understand
- 49:37Speaker 1: it was because they wanted it to be extra evil.
- 49:40Speaker 1: They were like, also, I have a conspiracy theory that
- 49:43Speaker 1: the bus driver wasn't going to kill them. Oh. Because
- 49:45Speaker 1: why was he giving them all candy?
- 49:47Speaker 2: To calm them down?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but they weren't even stressed out. Only that one
- 49:50Speaker 1: kid was stressed out and they were all already had
- 49:52Speaker 1: the shackles on.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know.
- 49:53Speaker 1: So, like, you would think that he would have just
- 49:55Speaker 1: got off and let it go. But, like, for some
- 49:57Speaker 1: reason he gets up and starts passing out candy to
- 49:59Speaker 1: all of them. Maybe it was drugs. And, like, he
- 50:01Speaker 1: wasn't even. Oh, maybe. Maybe.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Could they do that back then?
- 50:04Speaker 1: He was like, I'm at least going to let him
- 50:05Speaker 1: go to sleep. Yeah, maybe. But he also wasn't parked
- 50:08Speaker 1: directly by the cliff. Whenever that one kid breaks out
- 50:12Speaker 1: of his shackles and then drives it off, he has
- 50:14Speaker 1: to drive a good bit before they go off the cliff.
- 50:16Speaker 1: And he was trying to put it in reverse. It failed.
- 50:18Speaker 1: But I have a little theory that maybe he was
- 50:21Speaker 1: either not going to do it or was maybe going
- 50:23Speaker 1: to do something horrible, but it was a different plan.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, maybe. But I was like, interesting.
- 50:28Speaker 2: That's good to think about. I also should mention that
- 50:31Speaker 2: in the legend, they don't know what happened to the
- 50:34Speaker 2: bus driver. They have no idea if he died or
- 50:36Speaker 2: he survived because he goes off the cliff with them,
- 50:40Speaker 2: which comes back later in the movie. When Rhonda gets
- 50:46Speaker 2: to the top, she sees Sam standing there at the
- 50:50Speaker 2: cliff and they like kind of look at each other.
- 50:52Speaker 2: And then he walks towards the cliff and she's walking
- 50:57Speaker 2: away from it. Yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 1: She's like not scared of him at all.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 2: I might bring this up now. When I was Googling
- 51:02Speaker 2: things about my segment to confirm, it says that he
- 51:06Speaker 2: brought the zombies back to life. Sam did that.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Oh.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Because he's a little trickster.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Killing all these people. So their story's over. You do
- 51:17Speaker 2: see Rhonda at the end, but it's because they all
- 51:19Speaker 2: cross paths. We finally get back to Lori. And then
- 51:23Speaker 2: this is the rest of her story. She's still trying
- 51:25Speaker 2: to find someone. She's walking through the woods. And she
- 51:28Speaker 2: runs into that mask. scary man again, implied vampire. And
- 51:34Speaker 2: then just super quick, he comes crashing in through the
- 51:36Speaker 2: trees and ends up at the party where her sister
- 51:40Speaker 2: and everyone else is. And he's got a broken leg.
- 51:43Speaker 2: The friend comes over, pulls out his fake fangs. He's
- 51:46Speaker 2: not a real vampire. He's a serial killer because turns
- 51:50Speaker 2: out it's the principal.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Yes. Hate him. Yeah. I made Isabel watch this with
- 51:56Speaker 1: me because I was scared I was going to be scared. Yeah.
- 51:59Speaker 1: And she clocked it was the principal before me. She
- 52:02Speaker 1: was like, that's the principal. And I was like, no.
- 52:04Speaker 1: And then I was like looking at him and I
- 52:05Speaker 1: was like, is it? And then I was like, it
- 52:08Speaker 1: is the principal. Yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 2: And he tells Billy that he can't come with him
- 52:11Speaker 2: because he's got a date later.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Yeah. So he leaves Billy home alone. Yeah.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Kid's probably like eight years old. So we find out
- 52:20Speaker 2: it's the principal. He's a fake vampire. And then he's
- 52:24Speaker 2: her date. And the girls do this like sexy ritual
- 52:29Speaker 2: transformation to Sweet Dreams.
- 52:32Speaker 1: It's really fun.
- 52:34Speaker 2: They're transforming into werewolves.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I couldn't watch this entire scene.
- 52:39Speaker 2: It scared you?
- 52:40Speaker 1: I had to cover my eyes and let Isabel tell
- 52:43Speaker 1: me whenever the transformation was done because That's too body
- 52:45Speaker 1: horror-esque for me. Wow. And so like whenever they started
- 52:48Speaker 1: peeling their skin off, I like.
- 52:51Speaker 2: It is gross.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I like physically react to body horror. I can't do it.
- 52:54Speaker 1: It's like one of the scariest things in horror movies
- 52:57Speaker 1: for me. And that's honestly very minor body horror. That's
- 53:01Speaker 1: not even that bad of one. Yeah. But like I
- 53:03Speaker 1: tried to watch it for a second and then I
- 53:05Speaker 1: was like, I can't. And then Isabel was like, I'll
- 53:07Speaker 1: tell you when you can look again. That's funny.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I really like her wolf makeup when she's like, what
- 53:13Speaker 2: big eyes you have. And she's got the. fangs and
- 53:15Speaker 2: the eyes. I really like her contacts.
- 53:18Speaker 1: That was good.
- 53:20Speaker 2: And then Sam is also there at the party. I
- 53:21Speaker 2: think he's like sitting on a log watching everything. Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 1: He creeped me out.
- 53:28Speaker 2: I always wanted to be him for Halloween, but I
- 53:30Speaker 2: think I'm too tall. So I'm going to make my
- 53:32Speaker 2: future child be Sam. Cause they sell kid costumes at spirit.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Hell yeah. And so that is our third story. Technically
- 53:41Speaker 2: there's five. Because they count the couple, but I count
- 53:44Speaker 2: it as four. Yeah. And we get Mr. Krieg back
- 53:48Speaker 2: to the neighbor.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Brian Cox.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Yes, Brian Cox. He didn't look like the same person
- 53:53Speaker 2: in the ring. It was kind of funny. He looked
- 53:55Speaker 2: completely different.
- 53:55Speaker 1: I love Brian Cox. Anyone who's watched Succession knows that
- 53:59Speaker 1: he's one of the best actors of all time. And also,
- 54:01Speaker 1: I just watched Manhunter for the first time. He is
- 54:04Speaker 1: our OG Hannibal Lecter, and I think he's better than
- 54:08Speaker 1: Anthony Hopkins. Don't sue me for it.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Nice. And so this whole movie, things are a little
- 54:15Speaker 2: out of order. And so this happens technically at the
- 54:19Speaker 2: beginning of the night because you see him banging on
- 54:23Speaker 2: his window when we first see Stephen kill Charlie and
- 54:26Speaker 2: bury that kid. Basically, he didn't decorate for Halloween or anything.
- 54:30Speaker 2: And Sam's upset about that. He doesn't give kids any candy.
- 54:33Speaker 2: I think he takes their candy. He uses his dog
- 54:35Speaker 2: to scare them. So he takes their candy. And that's bad.
- 54:38Speaker 2: That's not what the spirit of Halloween is.
- 54:40Speaker 1: That was so Grinch coded, though. You know, the scene
- 54:43Speaker 1: in The Grinch where Max comes out and scares those
- 54:46Speaker 1: kids away from his house. I was like, that's funny.
- 54:49Speaker 2: I'm glad you like that.
- 54:51Speaker 1: I did like that. And I love Brian Cox. So
- 54:54Speaker 1: I was like biased to his storyline until I learned
- 54:56Speaker 1: something terrible.
- 54:58Speaker 2: And so it's a little cat and mouse game of
- 55:01Speaker 2: Sam getting in to his house. He like lights up
- 55:05Speaker 2: a fire in his room. He slashes his Achilles heel.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Mr.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Krieg grabs his gun. He shoot. Also, I think he
- 55:13Speaker 2: kills the dog, Sam, because you don't hear it upstairs anymore. Sad.
- 55:18Speaker 2: And so he shoots Sam, takes off his sack. He's
- 55:23Speaker 2: got like a skeleton pumpkin head.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Yeah. I hated his head. You hated it? That's scary.
- 55:29Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 55:30Speaker 1: He looked like an alien to me.
- 55:31Speaker 2: He did look like an alien. So he thinks Sam's dead.
- 55:36Speaker 2: He tries calling the police. I can't believe he has
- 55:38Speaker 2: a rotary phone. That was so funny.
- 55:40Speaker 1: That was funny.
- 55:42Speaker 2: He doesn't work. Sam's not dead. He uses one of
- 55:45Speaker 2: his hands that came apart to cut the cord and
- 55:49Speaker 2: he ends up on the ground, Mr. Krieg. And Sam
- 55:53Speaker 2: takes out his little sucker and bites it. He's going
- 55:55Speaker 2: to stab Mr. Krieg in the heart, but it gets
- 55:58Speaker 2: stuck on this candy bar that he stole from the kids.
- 56:01Speaker 2: And so he got his candy and he backs up
- 56:05Speaker 2: and leaves Mr. Krieg alone. He walks out. He's like,
- 56:09Speaker 2: I did my job. I got my reward. This is
- 56:12Speaker 2: what Halloween is all about.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Yes.
- 56:14Speaker 2: He leaves. The camera kind of pans out to Mr.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Krieg's fireplace and there's a photo of a school bus
- 56:23Speaker 2: driver with some kids and it is the kids from
- 56:26Speaker 2: the massacre. And it's implied that Mr. Krieg was the
- 56:29Speaker 2: bus driver.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Broke my heart.
- 56:34Speaker 2: You didn't guess that one.
- 56:36Speaker 1: No, I didn't. That was a twist that got me.
- 56:38Speaker 1: And in my notes before I learned that I said,
- 56:41Speaker 1: leave Brian Cox alone. Yeah. I was so bummed. Yeah.
- 56:47Speaker 2: The legend was true. And he did it and stayed
- 56:51Speaker 2: in the same town. That's crazy.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Or unless he left and came back.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Who knows? Well, there were a lot of kids on
- 56:58Speaker 1: that bus. There was like eight to 12 kids on
- 57:00Speaker 1: that bus. I guess back in the day because he's
- 57:03Speaker 1: like old in this. And so like if he was
- 57:06Speaker 1: a younger bus driver, that's got to be at least
- 57:09Speaker 1: at least 30 years ago, maybe more.
- 57:12Speaker 2: I think they say 30. Okay.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Okay. That would be a gross scandal that the town
- 57:16Speaker 1: might have been like, we'll just pretend it didn't happen.
- 57:18Speaker 1: And that's how it became a tale since none of
- 57:21Speaker 1: the parents ever reported their kids missing or anything. You
- 57:25Speaker 1: would think that school, though, would be like, where did
- 57:27Speaker 1: half of our student population go? Well, I think they
- 57:30Speaker 1: went to a special school.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know why they would consider it a
- 57:34Speaker 2: legend and not true. They must not have said anything.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they must have just been a very problematic town.
- 57:40Speaker 2: But the life insurance, they probably had life insurance on
- 57:43Speaker 2: those kids. They would have wanted to get that.
- 57:45Speaker 1: That's true. Hated that plot. Oh, well.
- 57:50Speaker 2: And so it seems like our stories have wrapped up.
- 57:54Speaker 2: But we see Mr. Krieg a few hours later. He's
- 57:58Speaker 2: bandaged up. He's given out kids candy finally. Also, Sam
- 58:02Speaker 2: put a bunch of pumpkins in his yard. It's so pretty.
- 58:05Speaker 2: All lit up.
- 58:06Speaker 1: It is pretty.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Billy is next door on his steps giving out candy also.
- 58:11Speaker 2: And he's dressed like his dad. I don't know if
- 58:14Speaker 2: you noticed it. He had the blood on the side
- 58:16Speaker 2: of his shirt.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I did not notice.
- 58:17Speaker 2: I think he had a button up on too.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:20Speaker 2: Rhonda, she's walking home with her wagon of pumpkins, I
- 58:24Speaker 2: think is what she had. You see Lori and her
- 58:26Speaker 2: sisters in the car kind of drive up and they
- 58:28Speaker 2: have to stop so they don't hit Rhonda. So you
- 58:30Speaker 2: see them. Their story is concluded too. And then we
- 58:34Speaker 2: see Sam watching the couple across the street from the
- 58:39Speaker 2: beginning in the movie. And he sees her put out
- 58:42Speaker 2: the light in that pumpkin. And so it all full circle.
- 58:46Speaker 2: We're back to that beginning scene. And then at the
- 58:50Speaker 2: very end, Mr. Krieg opens his door and it's the
- 58:53Speaker 2: zombies to kill him.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Deserved.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Yeah, everyone gets what's coming to them.
- 58:58Speaker 1: It was so scary.
- 59:01Speaker 2: That's so funny. If you rewatched it, would you think
- 59:04Speaker 2: it would be scary or not because you know what's happening?
- 59:07Speaker 1: Maybe not as much because I do know where all
- 59:10Speaker 1: the jump scares and stuff are at. And I do
- 59:12Speaker 1: know everything that's happening. But I will never be able
- 59:15Speaker 1: to watch that werewolf transformation.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:18Speaker 1: I did have a question. I don't know if I
- 59:19Speaker 1: just missed it. Why is this town specifically being harassed?
- 59:24Speaker 2: I don't think they say, but I bet Sam goes
- 59:26Speaker 2: to different towns.
- 59:27Speaker 1: Did we just pick this one?
- 59:29Speaker 2: This seems like a big Halloween town because they're on
- 59:31Speaker 2: the news. The fact that they're having like whole block
- 59:34Speaker 2: parties for Halloween, like it seems like a Halloween town. Yeah,
- 59:37Speaker 2: their main street was poppin'. But that's trick or treat.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Trick or treat.
- 59:42Speaker 1: My final note for Sam was, this thing is a demon.
- 59:46Speaker 1: I hate him. And then later, alien? Question mark?
- 59:49Speaker 2: That's funny. I would call him a demon.
- 59:53Speaker 1: He was so scary. I didn't like him. That's funny.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Not even a little... I gave it three stars and
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: I said severe misuse of a shovel. And then I said,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I'm a big old scaredy cat.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: I gave it four stars.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: You shaded me in your review. Yeah, I did.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: I said, I can't believe Alexis thought this was scary.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I was scared. I wanted to.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: But I guess we have different definitions of scary because
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: that didn't seem like there were any jump scares. Yeah.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: But like the zombies were scary. The werewolf transformation is freaky.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Anything that's going to linger in my head as like
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: that was freaky after the movie, I count as scary.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Sam, zombie scene. Lady at the beginning with the head
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: on the cross. And werewolf scene.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: But nothing in Lake Placid was scary? No. Like the body?
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: His body coming up?
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: No, that one didn't scare me. But I think that
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I'm very desensitized to Lake Placid because I saw it
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: when I was young.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: You'd think that would scar you more as a child.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I don't know. And maybe it's just because like it's
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: also very funny. Like I can focus on the banter.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: I don't know. Honestly, the most traumatic part of Lake
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Placid is whenever she feeds it that cow for me.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Also the bear scene, Loki, that poor bear.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Should we do my segment? Yes. Because it's slasher-esque,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I have a kill count.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Do you want to guess?
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Okay. Okay. I'm going to assume we're only doing kills
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: we see, yeah? Mm-hmm. Seven.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I got 16.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: 16? Oh, my God. I just realized a few people
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I forgot, too. I did not write down all their names,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: but I can try and go through them. The first
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: one was the girl, then Charlie.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Yeah, girl, Charlie.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: And I guess this mystery person in the grave.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: The girl at the party Stephen kills.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: The friend's. There's four of them. One, two, three, four.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I only counted three.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: And then all the kids in the town legend.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: I think there were eight. I think I counted eight.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: And then there was Steven and Mr.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Krieg. Okay.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: So I Googled the kill count and they said 28.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Damn.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: This is listofdeaths.fandom.com, like a wiki page.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: That's funny. They have 28.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: They said 16 men killed. six victims of unknown gender
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: and six women, but they were also counting all the
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: people at that party.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: They said nine people. I'm not sure where they got
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: that number, but maybe they saw nine different girls in
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: the background and that's how they did it because there's
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: at least four. Lori, her sister, and their two friends.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: So who knows? I also did not take them being
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: sisters as literally. I don't know why, but I thought
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: they were all in a sorority. Oh. And so whenever
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: she was like saying sister, I was like, oh, like,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: She's saying sorority sister. Yes.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: She does say her mom, though. They say mom.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: But I guess they could have been house mom. Because
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: they do mention her being a college virgin.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: That's true. So it could be.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: But she seemed like really concerned. Yeah.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: So it felt like real sister. I think that makes sense.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: And the other two never referred to her as sister.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: So like, that checks out me, thanks.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: So that's all of mine. My kills.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I want to know who that boy was.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: I always thought it was weird that he would come
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: in with nothing and then his Ted was down there.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: But I was like, it has to be somebody else.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: No way there would be that big of a plot hole.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Isabelle and I, we talked about that for a
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: long time after the movie. We were like, what's going
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: on there? Oh, I do just want to say that
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: that movie was a big old bummer. Letterboxd. My first
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: one is... Would recommend to a friend with ADHD.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Because sometimes I got mad whenever it would switch plot
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: lines because I'd be like, wait, with the dad and
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: the jack-o'-lantern, I was mad when it swapped because I
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: didn't realize he was going to be that vampire guy.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: But I was like, yeah, somebody with ADHD would be
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: locked in because they'd be like, oh, what's that? What's
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: happening now?
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that it wasn't chronological.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: That was fun.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: My first one. How do I go about joining the
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: hot girl werewolf gang?
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Yeah. real though my second one charlie brown is not
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: an asshole.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: My second one horny spooky silly halloween medley it's like
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: digging around blindly in a candy bucket you never know
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: what you're gonna pull out but it's definitely candy.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Accurate my last one is that little fuck had no.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Reason Which one? Oh, Sam.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Sam. That's funny. Menacing.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I would say Billy's just as scary as Sam. He's
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: totally okay with his dad being a serial killer and
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: wants to carve out the eyes.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Billy is absolutely going to be a serial killer when
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: he grows up.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Oh, also, I think that Paige counted the wife as
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: one of the deaths because it's implied that she was
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: murdered by him. But like, obviously, who knows how long ago?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Yeah, tea. That's interesting.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: My last one. I need to experience Halloween in Ohio
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: at least once in my lifetime. I thought that was
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: really funny. It's Ohio.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: I'm going to stay out of Ohio for Halloween for
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: the unforeseeable.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: Because my other favorite Halloween movie, Fun Size, glats in Cleveland.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Oh, that's true. I remember that.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: I was like, that's funny. I like two Halloween movies
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: and they're set in Ohio.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: That's funny. So that was spooky week. Yay.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Happy Halloween.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Happy Halloween. Go watch our movies. Yeah.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: We're going to do something different this season and we'll
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: probably release episodes biweekly instead of weekly this time.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: We're busy girls.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: What are we watching next week?
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Next week, we're watching fall movies. November, fall.

- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I hope with the sucker. That was fun.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be very seasonal.
