- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to another Radio Archive Hour from the Radio Hall
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Fame Phil Henry Show and our website philhenryshow.com. From
- 0:06Speaker 1: November of 2000 comes the great Bobby Dooley, a character
- 0:10Speaker 1: that was invented literally as I was driving to work
- 0:12Speaker 1: one night and I heard a woman talking on another
- 0:14Speaker 1: talk station. And I thought, boy, I know who that
- 0:16Speaker 1: woman is. She sounds a little bit like this person
- 0:19Speaker 1: and that person and put it all together.
- 0:21Speaker 2: And what do you got? You got Bobby.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And here she is explaining as the president of the
- 0:25Speaker 1: Western Estates Homeowners Association. why she took down her Jewish
- 0:29Speaker 1: neighbor's blue and white Hanukkah lights and replaced them with
- 0:33Speaker 1: a concrete nativity scene.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Sure, Bobby. Sure.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Okay, from Western Estates, California, Bobby Dooley is on the
- 0:42Speaker 3: phone with us. You're having your annual Christmas decoration contest, right?
- 0:47Speaker 4: That is correct. It is something that we have had
- 0:53Speaker 4: every year for the last seven years, and we're very pleased. Phil,
- 0:58Speaker 4: that the last four years, the Magnolia phase, which is
- 1:01Speaker 4: the phase of the Western States development where myself and
- 1:06Speaker 4: my husband and my three sons live, the Magnolia phase,
- 1:09Speaker 4: has won the most spectacular phase award with our use
- 1:14Speaker 4: of light and our use of motion. The pageant of lights,
- 1:18Speaker 4: as we like to call it, is going to be
- 1:20Speaker 4: coming up. And we're just trying to organize everyone.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I know there are a lot of these Christmas lights.
- 1:26Speaker 3: contests that neighborhoods have. What makes yours different?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Phil, I think what makes ours different is that we
- 1:34Speaker 4: want a uniform, a very uniform and beautiful mosaic, if
- 1:40Speaker 4: you will, of lights and color and pageantry and the
- 1:45Speaker 4: beautiful motion, I think, of many of our decorations. We
- 1:49Speaker 4: did have our weekly homeowner meeting on Friday. You were
- 1:53Speaker 4: referring to Eve Mendelman's and she asked me what about
- 1:57Speaker 4: the white and blue lights that Jewish families sometimes use.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, now, Eve Mendelman and her husband, Don Mendelman,
- 2:05Speaker 2: live there?
- 2:05Speaker 4: That is correct.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean in the Magnolia phase.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Yes, that is correct.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:09Speaker 3: She wanted to put up blue and white lights, which
- 2:11Speaker 3: are traditional for Jewish families?
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yes. She and Don wanted to use them. They are
- 2:18Speaker 4: new to our development. Don and Eve moved in last summer.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So I said, no, Eve, we use only the traditional
- 2:28Speaker 4: Christmas lights, and I thought that that was the end
- 2:30Speaker 4: of that.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah, because was there some dispute? This is not an anti-Semitic.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Thing, right?
- 2:36Speaker 4: No, we made that very clear to the newspaper when
- 2:39Speaker 4: they called. This is not about anti-Semitism. This is about
- 2:43Speaker 4: the uniform look of the traditional Christmas pageantry and the
- 2:49Speaker 4: Christmas lights.
- 2:51Speaker 2: All right, now, what happened? She and her husband put
- 2:53Speaker 2: them up?
- 2:55Speaker 4: Well, the next night, Steve, who is my husband, and Steve.
- 2:58Speaker 5: I'm right here, Phil.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, hi, Steve.
- 3:01Speaker 5: How you doing? We're good.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Steve's here, Phil. He said, I want to tell you something, honey.
- 3:07Speaker 4: And I said, oh, my God. You know, one of
- 3:09Speaker 4: the boys heard, and he said no, but he said
- 3:11Speaker 4: to me, and right now, I can feel my heart
- 3:14Speaker 4: remembering the moment. Hold on for a minute.
- 3:18Speaker 5: You didn't want to get your prodigy?
- 3:20Speaker 2: Okay, Steve, is she all right?
- 3:22Speaker 5: She's got a little asthma.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Oh, God. Phil, it's just that when I remember what happened,
- 3:35Speaker 4: I have a hard time breathing.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Well, what happened?
- 3:40Speaker 3: You asked the Mendelmans to take their blue and white
- 3:42Speaker 3: lights down.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Yes, hold on. Phil, please watch your tone of voice
- 3:46Speaker 5: over there.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Is she having a hard time breathing?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yes, she is.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Get her the mist, then. Is it asthma?
- 3:54Speaker 5: It's asthma. Can I.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Just catch my breath?
- 4:02Speaker 6: Certainly.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Catch your breath, dear.
- 4:03Speaker 3: We're talking with Bobby Dooley from the Western Estates Homeowners Association.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And she's got a little bit of asthma. We're talking
- 4:12Speaker 3: about their annual Christmas decoration contest. The Western Estates Magnolia
- 4:17Speaker 3: Phase has won Most Spectacular Use of Lights in Motion Award.
- 4:21Speaker 4: So my lungs are beginning to clear.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Now, you have a Jewish family on your block who
- 4:26Speaker 3: insist on using white and blue lights.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Well, Steve said to me, didn't you talk to the
- 4:32Speaker 4: Jewish people? I said, yes. And he said, well, get
- 4:35Speaker 4: a load of this. And he pulled the cord on
- 4:38Speaker 4: the curtain. The curtain opened up. Because they live right
- 4:46Speaker 4: across the street from us.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:52Speaker 4: And it was absolutely hideous. They did not have up
- 4:58Speaker 4: the traditional Christmas decorations. They had violated the Christmas decoration code. Oh,
- 5:04Speaker 4: my God, Phil, I have to get my whole life.
- 5:10Speaker 5: All right.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Steve, maybe she can't speak with us.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Well, you know, I can talk a little bit about
- 5:16Speaker 5: it if you want.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Okay, but Bobby, I think, has a lot of the
- 5:19Speaker 2: inside scoop on this, right?
- 5:20Speaker 5: But the point is, the Jews across the street.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And if you wouldn't mind not calling them Jews, okay?
- 5:27Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I mean, the Jewish people across the street.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I said, yeah, look at this. And I pulled the
- 5:30Speaker 5: curtain cord, and the whole thing came open like, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 5: like you're flying on a Friday night. And there it was.
- 5:39Speaker 5: It was the, you know.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It was the blue and white lights.
- 5:41Speaker 5: The blue and white lights, the Jewish family. I took
- 5:44Speaker 5: a look down the street, and they put up the
- 5:45Speaker 5: Jewish lights up and the blue-white light. So we went
- 5:49Speaker 5: down to the Mendelman's home, and if you can imagine us,
- 5:52Speaker 5: there are Bobby and I. Here's Bobby again.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Bobby, you all right there?
- 5:56Speaker 4: Yes, I'm all right.
- 5:57Speaker 3: All right, Steve was telling us you guys went over
- 6:01Speaker 3: to the Mendelman's house when you saw that they had
- 6:02Speaker 3: up the blue and white Jewish lights.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Yes.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And there's Steve and I, and I'm using my primatine
- 6:07Speaker 4: mist going over there because I cannot believe what I've seen.
- 6:11Speaker 4: I cannot believe... Now, keep in mind, Phil, four years running,
- 6:14Speaker 4: we in the Magnolia phase, we have won.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Most spectacular use of it.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Most spectacular use of lights, yes. And here is this
- 6:22Speaker 4: blue and white, and I'm breathing the primatine because I'm
- 6:26Speaker 4: so mortified that I couldn't deliver the mental bins to
- 6:29Speaker 4: the homeowners association. And I got to the house, and
- 6:33Speaker 4: I said, look, Eve, Jesus was a Jew. And she
- 6:37Speaker 4: tells me, yeah, right, right. But that she had the
- 6:42Speaker 4: right to put these lights up. And so here we go.
- 6:46Speaker 4: We need to instruct them in the Western states way
- 6:49Speaker 4: of doing things. So Saturday night, they were out of town.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You said to her, Eve, these are the wrong colored lights.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And she said she had a right to put them up.
- 7:00Speaker 4: She said she had a right to put them up.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And I said, no, you don't. And she said, yes,
- 7:04Speaker 4: she did. I said, no, no, you don't. And she said, uh-huh.
- 7:07Speaker 4: And I said, no, because the homeowners association rule is
- 7:11Speaker 4: very clear. During the Christmas season, the Judeo-Christian tradition is
- 7:17Speaker 4: weighted heavily in the Christian side. The Judeo-Christian side, the
- 7:21Speaker 4: rest of the year, but then you have to be
- 7:22Speaker 4: Christian during Christmas, because guess what? Christmas is spelled with
- 7:27Speaker 4: a C-H-R-I-S-T, and that's Christ. So I told her all
- 7:31Speaker 4: of that, and to make her feel better.
- 7:33Speaker 2: What was this whole Christ was a Jew thing?
- 7:35Speaker 4: I said, Christ was a Jew, so you can celebrate.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And she said, nuh-uh. And she kept her lights up.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And so that's why we did what we did on
- 7:44Speaker 4: Saturday night.
- 7:45Speaker 2: All right, now, you have to tell my audience what
- 7:47Speaker 2: you did on Saturday night, because.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Well, Phil, we want, we believe that it should be
- 7:51Speaker 4: a uniform Christmas demonstration. So Saturday night, they were out
- 7:55Speaker 4: of town.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And you went over to their home, right?
- 7:57Speaker 4: Yes, we did.
- 7:58Speaker 2: What did you do to their front lawn?
- 8:00Speaker 4: Well, I'd appreciate the tone of voice. I don't think
- 8:02Speaker 4: it's very.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Well, what did you do to their front lawn? Didn't
- 8:04Speaker 2: you do something?
- 8:05Speaker 4: Yes, but your tone of voice.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Well, just tell the people.
- 8:09Speaker 5: What are you talking about?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Well, what, is she having a hard time breathing now?
- 8:13Speaker 5: Well, you've got to watch what you're talking about.
- 8:15Speaker 7: Why?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Because I don't... I'm not trying to make her angry, okay?
- 8:19Speaker 5: Well, you're challenging her.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I'm saying, did you guys go over there?
- 8:22Speaker 5: We did go over there, Phil, and we constructed a
- 8:23Speaker 5: manger up there.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Phil, am I right?
- 8:26Speaker 2: I am.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Oh, God, I've opened up the bronchial airways.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Ha!
- 8:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Hold on. You all right, honey? Ha.
- 8:40Speaker 7: Ha.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm all right.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 8:46Speaker 5: I'll tell you.
- 8:47Speaker 2: What happened, Steve?
- 8:49Speaker 5: What we did, we began, we constructed a beautiful nativity
- 8:51Speaker 5: scene with concrete footings. Rick Dubar did the steel, and
- 8:55Speaker 5: John Walsh did the electrical.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Steel and electrical. So you're digging footings on their front lawn.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Hold on.
- 9:01Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I just want to.
- 9:04Speaker 3: You poured concrete footings.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Rick Dubar did the steel, and Wallace did the electrical, right?
- 9:09Speaker 5: We built a gorgeous concrete steel nativity scene in the
- 9:12Speaker 5: front yard. It was absolutely gorgeous.
- 9:14Speaker 2: And a concrete and steel nativity scene.
- 9:16Speaker 5: It was beautiful. I've been proud to have it on
- 9:18Speaker 5: my own front lawn, and I'm thinking about doing it.
- 9:20Speaker 2: But this was on someone else's front lawn, right?
- 9:22Speaker 7: Right.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Well, they called the police... And the whole thing is
- 9:25Speaker 5: that they ordered us to take it down and restore
- 9:27Speaker 5: their yard to its original luster.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Phil, I'm better now.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Bobby.
- 9:31Speaker 4: They told us to take it down. And I said
- 9:34Speaker 4: to the police officer, I said, look, this is a
- 9:38Speaker 4: nativity scene. And this is what Christmas is about. And
- 9:41Speaker 4: they won't help us celebrate.
- 9:43Speaker 2: All right, well, I think where you guys have got
- 9:44Speaker 2: it wrong, if I may.
- 9:45Speaker 5: You're going to tell us where you got it wrong?
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, just hold on for a minute. Where I think
- 9:48Speaker 3: you guys have it wrong is, first of all, this
- 9:49Speaker 3: is a Jewish family. They don't celebrate Christmas. They have
- 9:52Speaker 3: blue and white.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You know what?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Frankly, I think putting up blue and white lights is
- 9:56Speaker 3: too much of a concession at Christmas. I think Jewish
- 9:58Speaker 3: families don't have to put up any kind of lights.
- 9:59Speaker 3: They don't have to put their menorah in the window,
- 10:02Speaker 3: and they don't have to have a Hanukkah bush, okay?
- 10:04Speaker 3: None of those things, I think, are a traditional way
- 10:08Speaker 3: of celebrating Hanukkah.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I could be wrong.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Phil, they are a part of Western Estates, and we
- 10:13Speaker 4: won four years in a row. You know something? We
- 10:15Speaker 4: worked very hard for our Most Spectacular Use of Lights Award.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Well, you've got a Jewish family living on the block, man.
- 10:21Speaker 2: They don't put up lights.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Lighting is a real bad thing. They don't put them up.
- 10:25Speaker 3: And what are you doing putting a concrete and steel
- 10:28Speaker 3: nativity scene, digging footings, running in electrical, and do I
- 10:32Speaker 3: understand that you also ran in gas?
- 10:34Speaker 5: We ran in a gas line, yeah.
- 10:36Speaker 6: For what?
- 10:36Speaker 5: Because it's for a fire pit.
- 10:39Speaker 2: For a fire pit.
- 10:40Speaker 3: So you can go over there, put your feet up,
- 10:41Speaker 3: and look at the nativity scene on their property?
- 10:44Speaker 5: Well, that's what I'm saying. They don't want to do anything.
- 10:47Speaker 4: They didn't want to be a part of it, Phil,
- 10:48Speaker 4: and we wanted them to be a part of it.
- 10:50Speaker 4: I still think that Eve and Don can be a
- 10:51Speaker 4: part of a wonderful Christian Christmas.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, 1-800-449-8686. Talking to Bobby and Steve Dooley. Now,
- 11:04Speaker 3: these two guys are part of a homeowners association. They
- 11:07Speaker 3: put up all the lights, and they do the do.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Not everybody on the street's putting up the lights. The
- 11:12Speaker 3: one family across the street from the Jewish family put
- 11:14Speaker 3: up blue and white lights, and not only do they
- 11:16Speaker 3: want them to take the blue and white lights down,
- 11:18Speaker 3: those people refused, so they poured a concrete nativity scene
- 11:21Speaker 3: in their front yard when they were out of town,
- 11:24Speaker 3: which is against the law. They're lucky that all the
- 11:26Speaker 3: cops asked them to do was take it down. How
- 11:28Speaker 3: do you take down concrete footings and steel-reinforced cement with
- 11:33Speaker 3: a jackhammer?
- 11:35Speaker 2: All right, 1-800-449-8686, Phil Hendry Show.
- 11:55Speaker 6: Phil Henry's show at 1-800-449-8686 with Bobby and Steve Dooley.
- 12:02Speaker 2: On the line.
- 12:11Speaker 3: And they are with the Western Estates Homeowners Association in
- 12:14Speaker 3: the West Valley in Southern California. They have every year
- 12:18Speaker 3: all of the homes there decorate for the Christmas holidays.
- 12:21Speaker 2: They have a Christmas decoration competition.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Not unlike many neighborhoods, there is one Jewish family that
- 12:27Speaker 3: lives across the street from the Dooley's that put up
- 12:29Speaker 3: blue and white lights, which they, I guess, you guys
- 12:32Speaker 3: say are against your homeowner's code or something?
- 12:34Speaker 4: Phil, we are just trying to share the Christmas cheer.
- 12:39Speaker 4: We're doing the Christian thing by spreading the Christmas love
- 12:42Speaker 4: to a lot of Jewish people who hate Christmas and
- 12:46Speaker 4: might be lost. We should have been, you know, we
- 12:49Speaker 4: should have been mean because the Jews killed Jesus, but
- 12:52Speaker 4: we're being nice.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Yeah, because they killed you.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Okay, get off of that kick for a minute, all right?
- 12:57Speaker 3: And just talk to me straight.
- 12:58Speaker 5: What are you yelling at me for?
- 13:00Speaker 2: What am I yelling at you for? I'm asking you
- 13:03Speaker 2: a question. Why can't they have the blue and white lights?
- 13:06Speaker 4: Because that is not part of the home orange. That's
- 13:09Speaker 4: not part of our homeowners association, Christmas light decoration extravaganza code. Now,
- 13:17Speaker 4: we have one most spectacular use of lights in the
- 13:20Speaker 4: Magnolia phase. We have one most spectacular use of moving
- 13:24Speaker 4: lights in the Magnolia phase. Magnolia's won four years in
- 13:27Speaker 4: a row.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I'm very happy for the Magnolia phase.
- 13:30Speaker 3: You went onto somebody's property and you built a concrete
- 13:34Speaker 3: steel with gas and electric manger on their front lawn.
- 13:39Speaker 4: And your point is?
- 13:43Speaker 2: It's against the law, as the police told you.
- 13:45Speaker 4: You know something, Phil? I really believe that we have
- 13:50Speaker 4: a right to have the neighborhood that we want. And
- 13:53Speaker 4: when you live in a gated community... And you spend
- 13:56Speaker 4: the amount of money that, do you know how much
- 13:57Speaker 4: our homeowners' fees are?
- 13:58Speaker 2: What?
- 13:59Speaker 4: $ 800 a month.
- 14:01Speaker 2: That's a lot of money, especially as many homes that
- 14:03Speaker 2: you got there.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Well, we feel it's worth it to keep our neighborhood
- 14:08Speaker 4: looking as, yes, on Christmas, as Christian as possible.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Well, then maybe you shouldn't have any Jewish folks moving in.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Maybe that's what you need to do.
- 14:17Speaker 5: St.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Louis on the Phil Henry Show.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Hello.
- 14:18Speaker 8: Hi.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am.
- 14:21Speaker 7: First of all, I would like to say what they
- 14:22Speaker 7: are doing is discriminatory, and it's grounds for a lawsuit.
- 14:26Speaker 7: Number one, it's also grounds for jail because you destroyed
- 14:28Speaker 7: these people's property, and you also have no right to
- 14:31Speaker 7: discriminate against these people celebrating their religion. As far as
- 14:35Speaker 7: you're angry about them, you should be nice to them
- 14:37Speaker 7: because instead of hating them, first of all, Jesus was
- 14:41Speaker 7: a Jew.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 14:44Speaker 7: The Jews are God's chosen people. They have a right.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Just like you pay your money, they pay their money, too.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Well, we felt that the blue and white light was
- 14:54Speaker 4: wrong for the motif that we picked out for the
- 14:56Speaker 4: Magnolia phase. Our theme this year is explosion of color.
- 15:03Speaker 4: And we wanted to have a beautiful explosion of color.
- 15:05Speaker 4: And I opened up my curtain.
- 15:07Speaker 7: Blue and white are colors. They are the colors for Hanukkah.
- 15:11Speaker 7: That's their religion. And by putting a nativity.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Theme, that's sacrilegious.
- 15:14Speaker 7: That is sacrilegious. These are Jewish people, and they have
- 15:19Speaker 7: Hanukkah during the same time we have Christmas. And you
- 15:22Speaker 7: cannot deny them that.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I'm really having a hard time breathing. Blue and white
- 15:29Speaker 4: would ruin the mosaic that we wanted to establish today.
- 15:33Speaker 7: First of all, you have no right to force your
- 15:35Speaker 7: mosaic on anybody. Those people pay taxes and they pay.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Their own rent.
- 15:38Speaker 7: And they have a right to have on their property
- 15:41Speaker 7: what they want to.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Are you breathing all right?
- 15:43Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 15:48Speaker 7: It's ridiculous what they did.
- 15:49Speaker 5: What they did is wrong. My wife's having a hard
- 15:52Speaker 5: time breathing. Please be nicer to her.
- 15:55Speaker 7: What you did, nobody should have to be nice to
- 15:57Speaker 7: you guys because what you did was wrong. You didn't
- 16:02Speaker 7: think about being nice when you went and destroyed these
- 16:04Speaker 7: people's property and violated their right to free expression. You
- 16:08Speaker 7: didn't think about being nice to them then. Were you
- 16:11Speaker 7: having a hard time breathing then? I feel for you.
- 16:17Speaker 7: But you reap what you sow. Maybe this is the
- 16:20Speaker 7: punishment you're getting for what you did.
- 16:21Speaker 9: They have a right to blue and white lights.
- 16:28Speaker 7: The Jews tried.
- 16:29Speaker 4: To ruin Christmas by killing Jesus, and they're doing it again.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You have no right. And
- 16:36Speaker 3: you know, you really need to get some primatine mist.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I don't want to hear you talking.
- 16:39Speaker 7: What?
- 16:39Speaker 2: I said get some primatine mist.
- 16:43Speaker 5: Why?
- 16:44Speaker 2: Because you sound horrible.
- 16:48Speaker 6: What do I sound like?
- 16:51Speaker 7: Hello? You sound ridiculous.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You sound like an idiot.
- 16:55Speaker 6: An idiot?
- 16:57Speaker 7: Yes, you do sound like an idiot. You need some help.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I am trying to get the people to put the
- 17:02Speaker 4: rent on my truck.
- 17:03Speaker 5: That's their home.
- 17:04Speaker 7: They can do whatever they want to. They don't have
- 17:06Speaker 7: to follow anybody's code and standards. They pay their $ 800
- 17:09Speaker 7: a month just like everybody else.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Are they going to.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Follow my standards? When you guys start paying their rent
- 17:15Speaker 7: and start paying their homeowners fees, then you can decide
- 17:17Speaker 7: what they can do with their home. Until then, mind
- 17:20Speaker 7: your own business. Let me ask you a question. Okay. Okay,
- 17:24Speaker 7: ask me a question.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Are you black?
- 17:26Speaker 7: Yes, I am. Well, there you go.
- 17:28Speaker 4: So you're sticking up for Jews.
- 17:31Speaker 7: What? Excuse me? I'm saying because.
- 17:33Speaker 4: You're black, you're sticking up for them because you're Jews.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Okay, look.
- 17:37Speaker 7: I'm sticking up for them because they are Americans.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They're American people on the right.
- 17:40Speaker 7: In America, we have something called freedom of choice, which
- 17:43Speaker 7: is protected by the United States Constitution.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I have to ask you, Ms.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Dooley, get some primatine mist, okay, and start breathing right.
- 17:51Speaker 7: It wouldn't make a difference what color I was. I
- 17:54Speaker 7: still feel that what you guys did was wrong. I
- 17:56Speaker 7: don't care what color they were.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Oh, God, thank God I can breathe again. You know,
- 18:01Speaker 4: I just, God bless you is all I can say,
- 18:03Speaker 4: and God bless all of the people.
- 18:05Speaker 7: Well, God bless you, too, but you can't go around
- 18:07Speaker 7: violating other people's rights simply because it's something that you
- 18:10Speaker 7: want to do.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Well, that's true, that's true, but I felt like doing it.
- 18:13Speaker 7: No, but how, wait a minute, how would you feel
- 18:15Speaker 7: if they went and ripped your colored light down and
- 18:17Speaker 7: put up blue and white lights because they didn't like
- 18:19Speaker 7: your colored light?
- 18:19Speaker 4: They can't do that because the homeowners association agrees.
- 18:21Speaker 7: And you can't do what you did either.
- 18:23Speaker 4: The homeowners association agrees.
- 18:26Speaker 2: All right, she can't breathe again.
- 18:28Speaker 7: You should be in line with a lawsuit if they
- 18:30Speaker 7: agree to what you did.
- 18:34Speaker 5: All right.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 18:35Speaker 5: 1-800-449-8686.
- 18:40Speaker 3: We're speaking with Bobbi Dooley and her husband, Steve Dooley,
- 18:45Speaker 3: about the homeowners association that they are members of putting
- 18:48Speaker 3: up their traditional Christmas decorations and not allowing a Jewish
- 18:52Speaker 3: family to put up blue and white lights because that
- 18:54Speaker 3: goes against their traditional Christmas decorations. They also went over
- 18:58Speaker 3: to the people's home and put a concrete and steel
- 19:01Speaker 3: manger scene in while they were on vacation. This is
- 19:05Speaker 3: the Phil Henry Show. We'll be back with more calls.
- 19:07Speaker 8: 1-800-449-8686.
- 19:33Speaker 4: 1-800-449-8686.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Phil Henry Show. Okay, we have Bobby Dooley on the
- 19:40Speaker 3: line with her husband, Steve.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Is she all right, Steve? We got some private team
- 19:45Speaker 5: in her, Phil, and I think she's going to be
- 19:46Speaker 5: all right.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Bobby?
- 19:48Speaker 4: Yeah, Phil, I'm awfully sorry. This has really been, all
- 19:53Speaker 4: I can tell you is this has been emotionally draining
- 19:55Speaker 4: for me. It has been emotionally draining for my husband
- 19:58Speaker 4: and my sons. We have been put through living hell.
- 20:02Speaker 4: And all we are trying to do is have a
- 20:05Speaker 4: beautiful Christmas decoration for the entire Magnolia phase. not just
- 20:10Speaker 4: two or three streets, but the entire phase, as well
- 20:14Speaker 4: as the Poplar phase, which has just opened up its three-, four-, five-,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and six-bedroom homes. I would just say that for all
- 20:22Speaker 4: of us here in the beautiful Magnolia phase of Western Estates,
- 20:27Speaker 4: if you're Jewish, try to understand that Christians are really,
- 20:33Speaker 4: you know, as my sons like to say, Christians are
- 20:36Speaker 4: where it's at. And so be a part of our celebration.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And don't be.
- 20:42Speaker 2: A blue loo. Okay, 1-800-449-8686. Riverside on the Phil Henry Show.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Hello?
- 20:50Speaker 2: Riverside, hello?
- 20:50Speaker 4: Hi.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am, go ahead.
- 20:53Speaker 6: I just want to say that I'm an Anglo-Saxon Christian,
- 21:00Speaker 6: and I don't want to be in the same breath
- 21:04Speaker 6: as their description of a Christian.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I think that what they've done... Well, how have I
- 21:08Speaker 4: described a Christian?
- 21:09Speaker 5: Pardon?
- 21:10Speaker 4: How have I described Christians?
- 21:13Speaker 6: Your description, the way you're putting a... Mm-hmm.
- 21:16Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 21:18Speaker 6: I would just... What do you... I think that what
- 21:20Speaker 6: you've done by building that manger.
- 21:22Speaker 7: Is a hate crime.
- 21:24Speaker 6: And everybody's as much as putting a swastika on their garage.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Well, I think that that... What kind of decorations do
- 21:32Speaker 4: you have?
- 21:33Speaker 6: I have Christmas lights.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Okay, what can I do?
- 21:35Speaker 6: But I'm not going to shove my Christmas lights down
- 21:39Speaker 6: someone else's throat.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Are they multicolored or are they the icicle lights?
- 21:43Speaker 6: They're multicolored.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Okay, right there, you see, you blew it. We have
- 21:49Speaker 4: all icicle lights this year.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Yeah, but no, you're blowing it in that.
- 21:53Speaker 4: It's really nice.
- 21:54Speaker 6: But you can't force Christ. and Christmas down people's throats.
- 22:01Speaker 6: That's not what Jesus did.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Well, they're the ones that hate Christmas. I don't hate anybody.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I love everyone.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Not if you built a manger on their property.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Well, you know what? I'll tell you this.
- 22:17Speaker 5: It really makes their property look better. It does.
- 22:19Speaker 4: It makes their property look... I think we've increased the
- 22:22Speaker 4: value of their property by at least $ 30, 000. It's not
- 22:25Speaker 4: your right. It's the spirit of giving.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but you guys ran in a gas line, electrical, telephone.
- 22:32Speaker 3: You've got digital satellite TV in that thing.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Let me ask you something.
- 22:36Speaker 3: You build a manger on their front lawn with digital
- 22:38Speaker 3: satellite receiver.
- 22:39Speaker 4: That's correct. Just so when we were over there, we
- 22:42Speaker 4: could catch some games. What's so funny about that?
- 22:45Speaker 2: In the manger?
- 22:46Speaker 7: Yes.
- 22:48Speaker 4: All right, ma'am.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Thank you for your call. Here's Denver on the Phil
- 22:52Speaker 2: Henry Show.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Hello.
- 22:54Speaker 8: Hello.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 22:56Speaker 8: I cannot believe I'm listening to this. This is unreal.
- 23:00Speaker 4: The manger costs probably about $ 6, 000 still.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like it's more money than that.
- 23:05Speaker 8: You know, they're celebrating in their own way. You know,
- 23:11Speaker 8: I mean, I don't care what color lights it is.
- 23:13Speaker 8: I mean, if you go... There's white lights around all
- 23:16Speaker 8: the city and county buildings at the top of Dallas.
- 23:20Speaker 8: You go from Grand Island, Nebraska to California. I drive
- 23:24Speaker 8: a truck, and you see all-color lights everywhere. People are
- 23:29Speaker 8: celebrating in their own way. You ought to be happy
- 23:31Speaker 8: that they're celebrating.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Well, the colored lights are out this year, though. Everyone's
- 23:34Speaker 4: using the icicle white lights.
- 23:36Speaker 8: It doesn't matter what color they're using. I mean, they're celebrating.
- 23:41Speaker 4: What do you have on your home?
- 23:42Speaker 8: Um, I got white lights.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Okay, see? You have the icicle lights.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Yes, I do.
- 23:47Speaker 8: And I put them up last night before I went
- 23:50Speaker 8: to Grand Island, Nebraska to work. You know, you two
- 23:55Speaker 8: need to get a light. Go down there.
- 23:57Speaker 5: I'm delivering meat.
- 23:58Speaker 8: Down to south central L.A. Go down there and see
- 24:02Speaker 8: how people live, what they have to put up with.
- 24:04Speaker 8: And you're worrying about what color lights somebody has on
- 24:07Speaker 8: their house.
- 24:08Speaker 5: Well, you have to understand, we won the Spectacular Light
- 24:10Speaker 5: Award four years in a row.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Big deal.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Big deal.
- 24:13Speaker 8: Pat yourself on the back. Go down to South Central
- 24:16Speaker 8: LA and see people, how they're living, how people are
- 24:19Speaker 8: living it every day today, and you're worried about winning
- 24:22Speaker 8: an award?
- 24:23Speaker 4: Where did he say to go to?
- 24:24Speaker 5: He said go down to South Central.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Well, what's that?
- 24:26Speaker 5: There's a lot of black people down there.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Oh, my God. It doesn't matter what color.
- 24:30Speaker 8: There's all color people down there. Believe it or not,
- 24:33Speaker 8: that's the meat market where all your food comes from.
- 24:36Speaker 8: But I doubt that you got the idea of where your.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Food comes from.
- 24:39Speaker 4: My food comes from Gelson's, thank you very much. It
- 24:41Speaker 4: doesn't come from the black part of town. But anyway.
- 24:44Speaker 2: He's talking about Central Market, okay?
- 24:46Speaker 5: You know the L.A.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Central Market?
- 24:48Speaker 4: What?
- 24:49Speaker 2: The L.A.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Central Market is where a lot of the farmers drop
- 24:52Speaker 3: off all their stuff. Anyway, sir, look, Bobby, are you hearing.
- 24:55Speaker 2: What this guy.
- 24:56Speaker 4: He said he has the white icicle lights. I don't
- 24:58Speaker 4: know why he doesn't understand what I'm talking about.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Well, he does.
- 25:03Speaker 8: What's wrong with the white icicle lights?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Nothing. You have them, so you should be, you and
- 25:06Speaker 4: I are one.
- 25:07Speaker 8: No, we're not. I wouldn't want to put myself, I'd
- 25:10Speaker 8: rather be down in a homeless shelter in South Central L.A.
- 25:13Speaker 8: than sitting in your house.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Do you have anything moving? Do you have a Santa
- 25:17Speaker 4: Claus that moves?
- 25:19Speaker 8: I don't have, no, I don't have anything.
- 25:21Speaker 4: You should do that. You should put that up on
- 25:22Speaker 4: your roof, like a Santa Claus that goes, in fact, Steve,
- 25:25Speaker 4: what's the one we saw over at Home Depot?
- 25:27Speaker 5: Oh, it's really great. It goes, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
- 25:29Speaker 5: And it goes, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. You know?
- 25:33Speaker 4: Have you seen that?
- 25:35Speaker 8: I just cannot believe you.
- 25:37Speaker 4: And the elves.
- 25:38Speaker 5: You don't have.
- 25:39Speaker 8: A clue about life, period.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Oh, God, I can't breathe.
- 25:45Speaker 2: You have no clue.
- 25:49Speaker 5: I can't breathe. My wife can't breathe because you're yelling
- 25:51Speaker 5: at her.
- 25:52Speaker 2: He's not yelling at her.
- 25:53Speaker 8: Do you realize how people are out here working every day,
- 25:57Speaker 8: worried about What color lights they're putting up on their house.
- 26:00Speaker 5: What kind of award they give. Hey, you've got to
- 26:02Speaker 5: see this. I saw this at the store. It's a dancing,
- 26:04Speaker 5: waving baby Jesus. It gets up out of the manger
- 26:06Speaker 5: and goes, hi, hi, and then lays down. Then gets
- 26:09Speaker 5: up and goes, hi, hi.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 26:12Speaker 7: What?
- 26:12Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:14Speaker 3: That's what the man is saying. South Central L.A.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Where the meat comes from.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah, where the meat comes from. All right, sir. Thank
- 26:21Speaker 2: you very much. Have a good evening. 1-800-449-8686. Here is
- 26:25Speaker 2: Schenectady on the Phil Hendry Show.
- 26:27Speaker 7: Hello. Hello.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am, go ahead.
- 26:30Speaker 9: I'm connected to New York, and I'm just... As a Christian,
- 26:34Speaker 9: I'm appalled by such attitude. Jesus was Jewish, and she
- 26:37Speaker 9: forgot about that?
- 26:38Speaker 4: That's what I told my next-door neighbor, and she still
- 26:40Speaker 4: wouldn't put up the right colored light.
- 26:42Speaker 9: Hey, you know what? Guess what? Jesus is more interested...
- 26:46Speaker 9: Your attitude about Christians is more stinky and more than
- 26:51Speaker 9: any color of light.
- 26:52Speaker 5: What are you talking about? Yeah, because God.
- 26:55Speaker 9: Hey, listen. God came to all people... And, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 9: you should read the book, What Would Jesus Do? Do
- 27:02Speaker 9: you know we.
- 27:03Speaker 4: Built a manger with a satellite dish?
- 27:05Speaker 7: Well, you know what?
- 27:06Speaker 9: Jesus is not in the manger anymore.
- 27:07Speaker 4: He's in heaven.
- 27:09Speaker 9: So you're really worried about things that are just so silly.
- 27:13Speaker 9: You know what?
- 27:15Speaker 5: Check this out. We put up an angel that flies
- 27:16Speaker 5: from the roof to the manger, and there's sparks flying
- 27:18Speaker 5: from the wings and cool pyrotechnics.
- 27:19Speaker 4: And stuff like that.
- 27:20Speaker 9: Yeah, and I think you need to go to some
- 27:21Speaker 9: psychiatric ward. We're supposed to go to a psychiatric ward.
- 27:24Speaker 9: That has nothing to do with Christians. You know, you're
- 27:26Speaker 9: being more of a.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Excuse me, but we have What Would Jesus Do bumper
- 27:31Speaker 4: stickers on our cars.
- 27:32Speaker 9: Well, I bet you have.
- 27:33Speaker 4: We have the Jesus fish. Do you have a Jesus fish?
- 27:37Speaker 5: It doesn't matter.
- 27:38Speaker 9: I have Jesus in my heart. And my attitude is,
- 27:40Speaker 9: you know, I'm really.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Appalled by you.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Look it, man.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Who cares about the ass end of the angel having
- 27:47Speaker 3: sparks flying off of it?
- 27:51Speaker 5: You know, you're not very Christian.
- 27:53Speaker 4: You know what? You really are so unchristian. You're really unchristian.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Are you born again?
- 27:58Speaker 9: I'm very born again.
- 27:59Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 27:59Speaker 9: I've been having Jesus in my heart for 39 years.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I don't think so because you laugh.
- 28:03Speaker 9: Oh, you're of the devil.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Oh, really, am I?
- 28:05Speaker 9: Any kind of person that's more worried about Christmas and
- 28:08Speaker 9: not worried about the Savior himself.
- 28:10Speaker 4: That's the birth of the Savior. No, you're worshiping. It's idolatry.
- 28:14Speaker 4: It's idolatry.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And then the angel comes down from the rooftop and
- 28:17Speaker 5: the sparks come off.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we got that about the sparking angel, man.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Do you know that Christ is the first five letters
- 28:25Speaker 4: of Christmas? Yes, I do.
- 28:27Speaker 9: And guess what else? And I don't have my house
- 28:30Speaker 9: gaudy or anything. I worship Jesus Christ.
- 28:33Speaker 4: And guess what else? I'm born again twice.
- 28:37Speaker 9: Do you need to have an asthma thing now because
- 28:40Speaker 9: you don't get everything your way?
- 28:42Speaker 4: No. Yes, I happen to have a hard time.
- 28:45Speaker 9: I'm sorry you have a hard time breathing.
- 28:47Speaker 6: Yes, I do.
- 28:47Speaker 9: But your attitude towards your Jewish friends, there's no way
- 28:50Speaker 9: they're ever going to become a Christian.
- 28:52Speaker 4: I will tell you this much. I'll tell you this much.
- 28:54Speaker 4: I'm born again twice. And that's two times more than you.
- 28:56Speaker 9: Oh, yeah, because Jesus wasn't sufficient the first time to
- 28:59Speaker 9: save you? What a shame.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Don't make fun of me. Jesus wasn't making fun of
- 29:03Speaker 4: my breathing.
- 29:04Speaker 9: I'm not making fun of you. I mean, Jesus Christ,
- 29:05Speaker 9: when you accept Christ in your heart, he doesn't jump
- 29:08Speaker 9: out of your heart and get born again twice. It's sufficient.
- 29:11Speaker 5: You know, all.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Good Lord. Where's her mist?
- 29:19Speaker 4: Jesus wouldn't laugh at me. I'm not laughing at you.
- 29:21Speaker 4: I'm laughing at the situation.
- 29:23Speaker 9: You're so judgmental towards your neighbor that you're giving a
- 29:26Speaker 9: bad name for Christianity. But I'm not going to continue
- 29:28Speaker 9: this conversation because I don't have to answer full according
- 29:31Speaker 9: to his folly, as my Bible says.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Good night, lady.
- 29:36Speaker 9: And you keep up the good work. Bye.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Hello?
- 29:46Speaker 5: Steve?
- 29:47Speaker 8: Hello?
- 29:49Speaker 6: Steve?
- 29:50Speaker 9: This is Kathy.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Yeah, Phil.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Kathy, I just want to find out, is Bobby
- 29:55Speaker 2: going to be back?
- 29:56Speaker 5: No, she passed out.
- 29:57Speaker 2: All right. Thank you, Kathy.
