Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / My Take On The Bobby Allison 85th Win Controversy
Transcript
- 0:01It's a tea with Kenny on a Wednesday night emergency press
- 0:08conference. So that that's D.
- 0:13That was Kim's mom. Calm down.
- 0:16Who's that Lady? So I'm waiting on Kim.
- 0:20She's downstairs. We're going to go eat.
- 0:22I just got back from Atlanta. I walked in the door and she
- 0:25says I need some white paint. I like let me get in the door.
- 0:31So I washed my own fire suit. So I've got it all put up at the
- 0:37shop. Said hi to Brody, going to
- 0:39interview Kevin Rumley in the morning.
- 0:42I told Brody, I said I've had enough.
- 0:45So I'll see you up at the shop at 11:30 on Thursday morning,
- 0:49wash the dirt car, get everything ready to go for
- 0:52Springfield. And then we got a wedding on
- 0:54Saturday night. So I will not be racing anywhere
- 0:59this weekend. My next race would be
- 1:01Springfield, MO, like November 15th, 16th, something like that.
- 1:07All right, so Bobby Allison. All right, people, I'm reading
- 1:16social media. There are a lot of people that
- 1:22are looking at this as like, what?
- 1:24What do you mean? Oh, now we're going to go back
- 1:26and make everything right. So Mike Helton told me one time,
- 1:35you know, I thought Mike was mad at me when I gave my opinion
- 1:39about Carl Edwards. Well, he really wasn't.
- 1:43But there's a deal like, hey, you know, don't believe
- 1:47everything you read and call me. So I assume I could call Mike,
- 1:54but I'm not going to because it's late at night and I want to
- 2:02give my opinion without hearing any information because I'm not
- 2:07a journalist. So I want to give my raw thought
- 2:11what I think the so the optics, in other words, why did they do
- 2:15that? What's that look like?
- 2:17So I don't want to hear the truth.
- 2:20I want to give you what's called an optical answer.
- 2:23I want to, I want to tell you what the optics are, in other
- 2:26words, what it looks like. Then somebody can call me and
- 2:30tell me what happened. You understand?
- 2:34It's like when something happens and somebody goes, oh, and that
- 2:38ain't really what happened. So what I'm probably going to
- 2:41say isn't really what happened, but here's what it looks like.
- 2:44OK, I know too much. I've talked to Bobby Allison 30
- 2:50years ago and he is pissed about not getting that 85th win.
- 2:55I said it. I said it because Bobby told me
- 3:00he would say I'm irked Kenny because Bobby doesn't cuss and I
- 3:06I learned that in Birmingham, AL at Bobby shop.
- 3:09I was there because I'm that old.
- 3:13Went there with Rusty and Davy Allison was there and Davy was
- 3:16working on his late model stock. And I think Clifford said a cuss
- 3:20word. And Clifford, you really are to
- 3:22me, Clifford. You know, we lost Clifford, but
- 3:26he was a wonderful soul. But he was the rebel.
- 3:29And so I know Bobby a little bit, OK?
- 3:34I know Bobby Allis a little bit. And he was highly pissed about
- 3:38not getting that 85th win. So I'm going to tell you what I
- 3:42think because of the way I think, OK, Now I know NASCAR's
- 3:47watching this, so call me up and tell me really what happened.
- 3:51You probably won't. But I'm going to tell you what
- 3:53it looks like. It looks like Bobby Allison
- 3:59called my brother Rusty, and somebody called Rodger Penske,
- 4:04and somebody got a hold of Mike Elton.
- 4:09And it looks like somebody said, hey, Bobby's getting up in age.
- 4:15This was wrong years ago. You need to make this right now
- 4:19while you can. So everybody heard Matthew
- 4:24Diller as reported by Matthew Diller on Flow.
- 4:29He did a wonderful 3 minute deal and here I am at 4 minutes and
- 4:3330 seconds. So Matthew broke it down and you
- 4:40know, we talked about all the economy is bad, the car counts
- 4:43down. Well, Matthew Diller said back
- 4:45in those days, the car count was way down at NASCAR.
- 4:49So they married the Cup cars and the Grand American division, I
- 4:54believe one of those. Anyway, they married 2 divisions
- 4:57together. And Bobby said, hell, I'm going
- 4:59to run that that car because it's faster.
- 5:02Bobby was a right. Bobby was a racer.
- 5:04Bobby Allison, he Hueytown, AL built, built his cars, had a
- 5:09neat little team. That's where Rusty and all of us
- 5:12get it from. Bobby is a racer, right?
- 5:16He taught, he taught Davey to be a racer.
- 5:19So Bobby's like hell with that. I'm not running a cup car.
- 5:22I'm going to run this car. And he won the race and it was a
- 5:24cup race, but it was kind of like, well, there was 2
- 5:28together, but hey, it was a cup race.
- 5:31So. And here's what Matthew Diller
- 5:33said, Tiny Lun #55 the Pepsi car kick ass like 68.
- 5:39Camaro later on that series become like the Grand American
- 5:43division, something like that. But he won two races.
- 5:48Tiny Lund won two. Well, they gave him his wins and
- 5:51they gave it to him. Tiny Lund two time cup winner,
- 5:54but they never give Bobby his win.
- 5:57So Bobby could never let that go all his life and and and here he
- 6:06was one he was tied with his nemesis, these older drivers.
- 6:10Hey, we're pussies compared to them.
- 6:16Herman, watch your mouth. Sorry about that, but I'm not
- 6:18going to start the video over. I apologize.
- 6:21I never meant to make your daughter cry.
- 6:23I apologize. So anyway, we're wimps, let's
- 6:28put it that way. So instead of using that word,
- 6:31we'll say we're wimps nowadays. Back in those days when somebody
- 6:35hated somebody, they hated them the rest of their life.
- 6:38And that's the way those NASCAR guys were.
- 6:40I talk to Kyle Petty all the time.
- 6:42Kala tell you that Bobby Allison, Richard, all those
- 6:46guys, they still don't like some of each other.
- 6:50I mean, you know, I I'm sure somebody's going to tell Darryl
- 6:54Walter this, but Darryl, Darryl, none of those guys are angels.
- 7:00We we get over stuff and we just roll on.
- 7:02But those guys born back in the what were they born in the 30s
- 7:07or no, I'd say 40s. See, Daryl's in his 70s.
- 7:10My dad, I'd say he's born in their late 40s, early 50s.
- 7:15Those guys hold a vendetta. They hate each other.
- 7:20My Mama taught me, don't use the word hate, but they don't
- 7:24dislike each other. They hate each other.
- 7:27So now I painted the picture for you.
- 7:32Bobby Allison moving 11 win ahead of Daryl Walter.
- 7:38Now he can die at peace. I mean, I just tell him the way
- 7:43I see it. So I think somebody got a hold
- 7:46of NASCAR, maybe not Rusty, maybe not Rodger, maybe
- 7:52somebody. But let me tell you that the
- 7:54optics, the pitcher, Jim France and Mike Helton, Jim France owns
- 7:59a NASCAR. Mike Helton vice chairman.
- 8:05Those two are are pretty much they're NASCAR, OK?
- 8:09So I don't like when people do that.
- 8:11And I don't know why I do that. K, It's like period, K, period.
- 8:16But that's what I think. So now whoever's involved,
- 8:20you've probably got my phone number.
- 8:22Text me and tell me what really happened.
- 8:24But to me, that's what really happened.
- 8:26Somebody got a hold of NASCAR and said, hey, Bobby's getting
- 8:29up there in years and need to make this right.
- 8:31So, you know, all right, I said what I said.
- 8:34Respond right here, Herman. Say what you mean and mean what
- 8:40you say. So I said it, and I'm full of
- 8:43love. I love everybody.
