- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Welcome in, everybody, to episode 30 of Talking Tech Podcast.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Tristan, how are you doing today, man?
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I am doing as well as I can on a beautiful spring day.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Just got to watch my Red Raiders beat that frog booty.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Now I'm looking forward to doing the same to the Cyclones here in a bit.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, what more can you ask?
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: No doubt, man.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: After the week from hell for Texas Tech Sports, we have bounced back beautifully with baseball and basketball, wrecking shop their last few games.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think first we're gonna get into, you know, we've been shouting out the smaller sports at Texas Tech.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I think we should just make a segment out of it to start off every episode.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I think, you know, for right now, tentative name, we'll call it the Talk and Tech breakdown, and we'll break down each of the sports and what they're doing and how it's going.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: So I think we should start our first Talk and Tech breakdown with Dragon Field because Dragon Field, one of tech's finest sports.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, we rock.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: We did, however, finish the men finish second and the women finished fourth at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, shouts out to a few athletes.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Ruth Asorro was named the women's field athlete of the year in the Big 12.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: She had the 11th best long jump in NCAA history at these championships.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: She also had the second best triple jump ever in NCAA history at this event.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, and she was the high point scorer for the Big 12, uh, named to the Bowerman watch list, which is basically the track and field athlete of the year.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: So uh shouts out Ruth Asoro, man.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, even though we're not bringing home those gold trophies right now in that tournament, it it's kind of like a broken record.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Every year we just expect to see these records, you know, all these high scores being thrown up on the board from our athletes.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So just super cool to see.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Um, loving the stuff that our truck track and field does every single year.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And our boy uh uh Takidine Hideli, I'm gonna go with uh on his name, men's track athlete of the year, won the thousand meter in the Big 12 championships.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: A Red Raider has now won that event for the past three years, so we stay slaying.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Um, and then Gabe Oladipo, first ever Texas Tech athlete to win the Big 12 title in the weight throw.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: This man throws heavy stuff far.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: My goodness.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Love to hear it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Like, like, like to hear us dominating something else, so we keep racking them up, boys.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: And then one more on track and field, Wes Kitley named uh the okay, so this is a long acronym.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Uh USTFCCA Mountain Region Coach of the Year.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: That, of course, for the treasured listeners stands for uh uh US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: So shout out to the West Kitley region in the mountain region.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So shout out Wes Kitley, he rocks, he's one of the best uh one of the best coaches at Texas Tech.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: He he's he's got us a national championship.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: So it's he's done a phenomenal job.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And I'm so glad for him to finally get that Lubbock namesake of the mountains and in the hills that is Lubbock, Texas.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad he got that locked down.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: A lot of mountains going on at Lubbock.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: We're not flat.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Whoever said we're flat.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: No chance, no chance.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Um, okay, the next sport, softball.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: They go two and four at the Razorback Invitational, split a home series with Texas State, bring the record to six and seven overall.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: So not fantastic for the ladies, but a lot of season left.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, they have the Texas Tech Invitational coming up this weekend, and that includes uh Abilene Christian and University of Missouri, Kansas City.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: So the Kangaroos come to town.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: A bit of a uh uh disappointment with the double header against an in-state team.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Uh and they're there with the against the Bobcats.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And fun fact for the treasure listeners is if you're subscribed to ESPN Plus, you can actually watch some of these softball games.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I actually uh caught a few bits here while I was working uh of the softball game.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: So it's uh if you're looking for something to throw on, you can sometimes catch some softball, watch our ladies.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think ESPN Plus is a pretty good investment if you're gonna go.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, it they play a lot of Big 12 sports, and you'll see there's they've had track events, they have the baseball games, they'll have uh some of the basketball games.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, I think ESPN Plus, I think I think what is it, five or six bucks a month?
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, it's only like 50 a year for a yearly.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: So if you get the yearly one, it's cheaper.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So that's what I did.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's probably a pretty good investment.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You get to and then I actually kind of almost prefer the stream to some of the cable.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: So sometimes it seems a little more stable, but rambling on about kind of behind and stuff, huh?
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: It's a little behind sometimes, but yeah, a little bit.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: But besides the point, men's tennis swept Utah 7-0 to move to four and two.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Next up, they have a back-to-back at TCU on March 6th, and then at UT Arlington on March 7th.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Women's tennis, six and six-one win over TCU to start conference place.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: So we start 1-0.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, next up, we're at OU and then at Baylor.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: So women's tennis is kicking butt, man.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: I think they've only lost one match this season.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's phenomenal.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And again, another really quietly awesome program on campus.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: So I really like the segment.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: It's just it's a lot of bragging.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: It's a lot of bragging because we're good at a lot of things.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, so we'll move on.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Women's basketball dropped the last two against Kansas State and Oklahoma.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: We are now 10 and 14 overall.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: But next up, we have the Big 12 championship.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, tech is a projected seventh seed, so that's about what we were last season.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: We had a few more wins last year, but you know, with all the stuff that went around the program during the offseason, including COVID, I mean, uh, you know, I think Krista Gerlich is is building something over there.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, she kind of gets a mulligan on her first year.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: And she looks like she's absolutely doing it the right way.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: You know, I was watching uh uh uh the double tee insider today as well, and they interviewed her, and that there's there's nobody on campus that loves tech as much as she does.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: So it's she's I'm really excited to see what she builds there here.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, get the right people in the programs, and good things are to come.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: So it's just gonna take a while to build it.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: So uh hopefully we'll get back to our winning ways here soon.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Volleyball W over Houston, three to two.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Next up, they're at Tarleton on the 11th.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: So, volleyball, uh, do they normally play this time of year, or is it because of COVID that they're doing this?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: You would catch me lying if I tried to say anything about it, but I'm pretty sure that's the standard.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: It's usually like the first collegiate sport of the fall semester.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So I'm a little confused.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: But I don't know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Maybe they're switching it up because of COVID, but uh maybe shout out volleyball.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Hopefully they uh you know keep wrecking stuff.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: So uh Texas Tech Soccer spring season starts uh tomorrow, which is Friday, March 5th, against Southwest University.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: They play uh, I think a five-game schedule this spring.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: They're playing Alabama LSU UNT Baylor after they play Southwest.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: So we got some some good schools coming up.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: So uh shout out to the ladies playing soccer.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Uh they always put together a pretty good team.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: So always high expectations.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: No doubt, no doubt.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And so that's all I got for the first talk and tech breakdown of the you know, shout out to the smaller sports on campus, they deserve love.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: We have a lot of good teams going around uh going around Texas Tech right now.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: We're we're elite, we're elite at a ton of those smaller ones, so they deserve the love.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: No doubt, but let's get into some big sports because we have a lot of dubs this week with both baseball and basketball.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Let's go with baseball first because we swept the series with Houston Baptist and Texas Southern, won all five games by an average of 11 and a half runs.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: So we uh absolutely dominated both of these schools this week.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: This is what exactly what we said would happen, though.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: We said once we get back to the home field and once we get back to the, you know, we're getting ourselves polished with the the the lesser talented teams, we're gonna see some big things.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad to see our team has bounced immediately back.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Obviously, this doesn't say that much, but I'm glad to see that we've at least moved on.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: And I mean, those were three really good teams to start off the year with uh in Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: So uh to get some to get back in the Lubbock at Rip Griffin Park, you know, just just beating the crap out of these teams, it feels good.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, we run ruled two games, so my goodness.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: It it's I and this is what exactly what you want.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It it's not like Houston Baptists in football.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: We're going to the water now with these.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I'm so done with Houston Baptists now.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I like that football game.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Sweet revenge.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: That football game is going to be forever in my nightmares.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: But anyway, just I'm glad to see baseball do what you're supposed to do with those teams.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: So good job.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Back on track.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Shout out to a few players.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Jace, Jace, is it young or Jung?
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I think it's Young, but I still don't even know.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: We should know this because Josh was such a good player for tech.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: But his younger brother, Jace, he leads the Big 12 in home runs and RBIs now.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: So he's got five homers on the year, 15 RBIs on the year.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's awesome.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: So another legacy slugger.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Like this guy is here to just pound the rock.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Love to see it, man.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Love the like the tech legacy like that, too.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: And then Josh, I think, is close.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's not called up to the official Rangers team, but some people are thinking it's gonna happen sometime this season, especially with how bad the Rangers have been.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: So uh, shouts out to the young or Jung family.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go with Young, but uh yeah, we had a couple good pitchers too.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Patrick Monteverdi has yet to allow a run in his two starts this season at 11 total innings.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: So uh he's a he's a stud.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Cal Connolly has six multi-hit games this season so far, which leads tech.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then you know, just other guys just had great games and and great series.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Dylan Noisey, Drew Baker, Micah Dallas, Nate Romback.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, we have so many good players on this team, and uh the 0 3 start just does not show how good this team really is.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: So uh from what you can tell, are the relief pitching starting to shape up a little nicer?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, whenever you're pounding teams like that, it has to be, but yeah, yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, I know I know some of these starting pitchers pitched like seven innings, and so they were only in for the last two or something, but uh yeah, it seems like we're kind of getting our flow going.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think the most runs either of these teams scored these past two series have been like three, three or four in the game.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, we just have like we said last week, there's just a lot of freshmen that are pitching right now, guys that don't have a lot of experience.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: So playing these teams that are not very good, uh, you know, gives them that collegiate pitching experience.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And it's always nice to be back at Rip Griffin Park in in Lubbock.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So they're they're hitting the ball well.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: They're hitting the ball well, you know, we're we're doing all right, Josh or Jace is doing well.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Coach Tadlock is kicking butt.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Love to see it.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Keep it rolling, boys, especially once you get to the Big 12 conference.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Let's let's keep this going.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Let's do it.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: But we are on the closing stretch of basketball.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Um we have Iowa State tonight, so by the time the treasured listeners are listening to this, the game will have been over and hopefully we will have a clear, easy tech dub.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: But um uh let's recap the two games that did happen uh this past week with starting with the big win over Texas in Lubbock.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: We sweep the Longhorns.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, we win on Saturday 68 to 59.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: So what a what a dub for the Red Raiders, man.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Chris Beard refuses to lose to his alma mater, the guy has their number.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: I last I saw the number was that we beat them seven out of the last eight games.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's against the Texas Longhorn.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: It is Texas Tech versus UT, and we have that sort of stat, you know, because UT usually has this weird mumbo jumbo against us, but not not not with Chris Beard's basketball team.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: No, Chris Beard loves beating uh his alma mater, like you said.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: No, he's uh I mean, uh what a bounce back game, dude.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Really.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Uh after losing three straight to West Virginia, Kansas, and Oklahoma State coming in uh to this UT game.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: I was as if you heard if you heard last week's episode, I was not very high on this team.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: I was ranting, I was getting a lot of anger out.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to say that was the reason they flipped the script and started playing well on offense, but you know, it may or may not have had something to do with it.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: I I think uh, you know, I think that was reason number one was Chris Beard, he's a treasure listener, so he he stepped it up for us and the treasure listeners.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Um, but reason number two, man, that crowd was awesome.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: They were, dude.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: You can hear them through the screen.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Some of them weren't so kid friendly, but that's okay.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: But no, man, they did.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: They showed out the love it crowd was loud and they were there, man.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: And they we really had that home field advantage, and you always want and expect that against your biggest rival.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So I'm so proud to see our boys sweep the longhorns.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Already talk mess to my uncle.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Um, talk mess to everybody that's a UT alum.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And if I could slide this in, my first nephew was born right after this epic win.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: So we brought a new red raider into the world over the in the best circumstances.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Shouts out, Fletcher McGonagall.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Austin and Molly.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, congratulations on having a new child, and congratulations to you for becoming Uncle Dumbass.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: I hope he learns absolutely nothing from this uncle.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: So he won't.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: He won't, but uh other than being a hardcore red raider, but his other uncles are too.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: All of his uncles are red raiders.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Hey man, kids growing up in a uh good environment watching uh a good team and definitely a good basketball team.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, because Chris Beard's gonna retire.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: In fact, I'm pretty sure he's immortal, actually, so we'll have him forever.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we will.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Chris Beard will know he's gonna be our coach K.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Please don't ever leave us.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Him and Tim Tadlock and be like, yeah, 80 years, but yeah, I'm 90 years old, but you know, still doing it, still out of your Texas tick.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: But some game notes, we gotta some analysis for the Texas game.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think one of the biggest parts, Terrence Shannon's back, man.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: He looks bouncy as ever.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: It looks like that ankle or whatever his knee or whatever was hurting him is not bothering him much anymore.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: He had three big old dunks in this Texas game.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, he has been a as a spark off the bench like he has been all year.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Um, he's back, man.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, I love seeing the guys, you know, shake off the injuries there.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Um really what stands out to me in this game was okay, we come out of the so we come out in the second half and we turn it on.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: You know, we're beating them by like more than 10 points.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then we let them get back into the game.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Well, what what's what's that about?
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Like, why why can't we just keep our foot on the pedal against you know, whenever we're we have wherever we have the moment momentum, it kind of appears we have a momentum problem.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Well, it's a game of runs, and that's what basketball is.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: UT is a very good team.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're not like you know, none of these Big 12 teams except maybe the bottom three are are bad at all.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: So uh that stuff's gonna happen.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Uh it's hard to put together.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I think we put I think we got our lead up from like three at halftime to about 10, and we were sitting pretty, and then I think they got it back down to three uh at one point.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: But I think the more important thing to look at is how we responded after the big run by UT because you know, normally we've been teetering after they make their big run back, uh, and and you know, either take the lead or get real close.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: But we responded very well.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: We shot free throws great this game.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: We we closed off awesome against them.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, you wish you could avoid those big runs, but uh, you know, sometimes it's just gonna happen because it's basketball, it's a game of runs, and UT's a good team.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: So you're totally right.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I think I'm just speaking from frustration as a fan where I feel like I lose a year off of my life every single game.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Because well, that's what Texas Tech does, man.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: You've been a fan long enough to know that.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: But the theme of every basketball game this season has been like down to the wire almost, except for you know, slugging is the frogs of the next game.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: But um, you you're totally right.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, obviously, it is a game of runs.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: We went on ours and then they went on theirs.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: And these are pretty evenly matched teams.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: I'm just glad that we gritted it out, like you were saying, doing the fundamentals right, like making your free throws to put us over the edge.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: So it was a well-fought win.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: And rebounds, man.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Rebounds was a big thing because UT is a big team, they're probably the biggest team in maybe besides like Kansas or something.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: But uh UT's got the tallest dudes.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: You get Sims and Greg Brown and uh Kai Jones and those type of guys.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Marcus Sanosilva was big this game.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: He had nine rebounds, uh, you know, fighting off the trees at Texas.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Uh Kevin McCullough had a great uh, you know, a lot of effort there.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: And and we just had a great rebounding performance overall.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: We won the rebounding battle as a team against them, and that's something you need to do if you want to beat UT.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: So that was huge.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Um, there was a balanced scoring effort.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: We had five guys and double figures with uh four of our starters plus Shannon.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so and uh you know, we just this was one of the best games of the year.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Defense, we held Texas to 34 shooting as a as a whole, which is fantastic.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: You know, if you can hold anybody 34 shooting, it's you're you're probably gonna win the game.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: So uh we had some we had some good good minutes from from all of our guys uh and just a great overall team performance.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Absolutely so glad that our and I think like it's always said, I think we do circle this game on the calendar.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So I'm sure our boys came out with a real fire, and I'm sure Chris Beard was on it as well.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So they really came out with a great game plan, especially on the D side defensive side of the ball, like you were saying.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: And you're you're harping on rebounds there for a second.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Is this like one of the first games where you saw us actually taking the advantage in rebounds?
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, it's always gonna be a team effort because we're a smaller team.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, with Marcus being our tallest guy at six foot seven, uh, you know, for the starters at least, I think Tyreek's a few inches taller.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: He may be six, eight, six, nine, but uh, we always have to fight and work as a team to get these rebounds over these trees since we don't have really any seven-foot guys to play besides Big Vlad, who we'll talk about him in a second for the TCU game.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, getting Kevin McCullough in there, Marcus has to do a lot of he works down there, man.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: And he was working this game, uh, found himself in great position to get a lot of these rebounds.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: So it's just effort, it's it's really an effort thing because and and if you get Kevin McCullough, you know, Marcus and Kyler and Terrence all all working down low to grab these boards.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a it's a great sight to see.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I think effort is something you can expect under Chris Beard.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: So very pleased with the way our boys performed.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Glad we threw those horns right on down.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: So glad we bounced back.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: We really needed it.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: We were on a bad skid there.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: We were losing hope a bit.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, not losing hope, but disappointment was setting in.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I was losing a little hope.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I mean with that rant last week, I was I was down on this team, so they're proving that they can bounce back.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: And you know, really it it's it's poetic because right as soon as March hits, we start playing good.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And this is March, man.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: This is the time of the year where we got to play real good and and catch our stride.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: So we like to see this.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Last week in uh last week, we said, you know, this is the wrong time of year to trend downward.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad that it went 90 degrees the other way.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: So it literally just takes until midnight on February 28th to go to March 1st, and that's when we just get these superpowers, I guess.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: We start we start drinking the stuff in Space Jam with Michael's secret stuff and uh just start kicking butt.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: So shout out.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: But we did beat, we did beat a second in-state rival as well, TCU.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: We won uh 69 to 49.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Nice, nice a nice 20-point victory over the frogs, and man, you were saying it, your brother was saying it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's just so nice to see a blowout, it really is, especially against a team that you're so much better than.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: You know, we're we're way better than the Horn Frogs, so I'm just really happy to see us finally just throw the pedal down because even in the out-of-conference games, you were seeing some games that are a little closer than he would have liked, um, you know, against lesser opponents.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: But I'm so glad to just throttle a rival, and especially because these have these guys have totally been avoiding us.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Uh just yeah, for sure.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad we finally met the hornfrogs on the court.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: So it's just good to punch a rival in the mouth, and especially when it's by 20 points.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: It's just unfortunate we can't play him twice.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Dang it.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: We that's how it works.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: I know it would have been a great, it would have been a nice sweep and another easy win for us, but we're not gonna have that because of weather issues, COVID issues, whatever you want to call it.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Can we count that as a sweep then?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll count it as a sweep.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: We played him once and we won once.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: So that's a sweep in my book.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: It's one and one.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: But I think the main thing, the main story of this game was Kyler Edwards.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: He was awesome this entire game.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: 17 first half points, 20 for the game.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: He shot seven of eight from the field, and he was aggressive.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: This is what I've been waiting for with Kyler.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Him being aggressive, shooting the ball, and not being so hesitant.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: And I think you can tell with him, he wants to do.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Whatever helps the team win.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And I understand that.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: And I respect the hell out of it.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: You know, he does all the little things.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: He plays great defense.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: He looks for other guys to get easy shots.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: But sometimes he's just got to shoot it.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, sometimes he's got the shot.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: And he's been very hesitant on shooting uh most of this season.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: And to see him just fire off a few threes and knock them down and you know go on that run that he did in the first half, it's it's just awesome.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: The veteran finally steps up, man.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm he we expected him to take the leadership role all dang season.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: And while he probably is, you know, more uh uh um uh morale wise and and and team captain you know esque wise, we were just waiting for him to you know be the guard that was reliable and was a you know a a force to go into every game, and he's kind of he hasn't really lived up to that every single game.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: And I'm just so glad to see him here at the end of the season push it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: So and I and I hope that just kind of spreads to everybody behind him because I'm sure most of the team looks to him as a leader.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: So if he's pushing it, I hope everyone else is pushing it with him, if you know what I'm saying.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Well, and that's the thing, like with this game, Mac's been carrying us on offensively most of the season.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: So to see like the Kansas game and the Oklahoma State game, you could really see the defenses are focusing on Mac.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: So for the other guys to have these big scoring nights when they have their shots, and you know, when they have two guys on Mac, one guy's always open.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: So uh I think one of the you know, Kyler was a fantastic, had a fantastic game, but Mac McClung had six assists in this game, and the team assisted on we had 29 made field goals, we assisted on 22 of them.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So uh unbelievable team ball movement all around.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Real motion right there, huh?
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Seeing us win by 20 points and Mac only scored four of them, uh that makes me so happy.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: And it was a dominant win.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I know it was it was it was great, man.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: And he had to flick the sirens on because the golden Russian saw the courts did that night.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Yes, he did.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Big Vlad showed up and scored a massive two points.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was cool seeing the crowd.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: You know, we we always get hyped up every college, every collegiate team.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: The fans want the big guy that never plays or the benchworm or the white guy, whatever.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: They always want to see them come in and seeing like the crowd chant, Vlad, we want Vlad, we want Vlad.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: It's so cool.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: And he was smiling, he was having a great time.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: He's freaking he's a freshman, he's 18 years old, and he's getting like all these massive cheers from the entire students in a foreign country, you know.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, like he went to high school here, but like you know, he knows uh it was cool.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: It was cool seeing Vlad get in there and be aggressive, man.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: He uh when he caught the ball down low, he was he was he was aggressive and he was strong with it.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: So shout out Vlad, man.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: I'm so ready for this guy to develop his way into the normal lineup in the future so we can have a big man just grab the ball right after touches the hoop, you know.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the last I mean it's nice, it's nice that we have guys that are aggressive down low, but the last two seasons, especially, we've been starting a very small lineup, you know, with TJ Holyfield and Marcus Sanosilvan starting at the at the center position.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: It's it's just tough to grab these rebounds, and you see Kansas and UT and all these guys that have seven footers all the time.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Uh it it just kind of brings you back to the 2019 team, and you're like, oh, Tariq Owens and and Norren Sodiase, two massive dudes are in there grabbing rebounds.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, hopefully Vlad will turn into some in the future.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, we did the same thing with Big Russ last season.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, just awesome to see big dudes coming in.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: And and really it was that whole bench unit against TCU.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I I saw that Chris Beard put in that lineup that had, I think, Tyreek Smith, uh, Vlad, uh Nadolney, Agbo, and Benson.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And you're just like, okay, he's toying with TCU right now.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: That's vintage Chris Beard, though, you know, getting cycling through the bench.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: So that's that's so awesome to see, especially guys that probably work so hard in practice, they deserve some court time.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: So I'm really excited to see Chris Beard do the old cycle and just kind of you know dance all over TCU because I I do not mind leaning into the horn frogs.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Well, and the thing about it, and shout out Ramblin' Raiders for tweeting out this uh at the like when the game was going on, but that bench unit increased the lead.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: So to have you know your guys come in there, Avery Benson, Big Vlad, Nadolmy, Tyreek, Tyreek Smith had a great game, Agbo, those guys increasing your lead.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Like, not you know, getting those good minutes from those guys while also resting the starters.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: You know, we're playing four games this last week of the season.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: And to get these guys rest, get Shannon rest, get Mac rest, get uh Marcus rest, get all those guys uh on the bench, not playing a lot of minutes, it it really helps you out.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: And to see these guys, you know, the future's bright, man.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: And exactly what you're saying right now is what I hope applies to tonight.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: And that's what we need to do against Iowa State, who is I think two and nineteen, uh, not having not having a great season for Iowa State.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Uh let's uh let's just get into it because yeah, let's go ahead and go.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Because you reached out to uh our friend, a friend of the program, um Travis Holm, who is an avid Iowa State fan.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: We had him on for the Iowa State football preview, um, and he did a little write-up for us.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: And man, he is so just upset with with how the Iowa State team is doing this year.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: And uh, we would be to any any fan of any team would be if you're two and nineteen and winless in conference right now.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: That is pretty unacceptable as a power five basketball program, you know.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: And I actually do kind of feel uh feel bad for them because it's I would be so upset, you know.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: That that's that's you have the resources that are beyond most teams in the country, and you have a legacy at Iowa State of being a good basketball school, and this is what you're getting.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: You know, it's that is unacceptable.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: And if if if you're an Iowa State fan, I don't blame you calling for the coach's job at all.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, I I think they're kind of torn between it.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Steve Prom, they think he's a good dude, uh, that, but he just has not done well uh at all with that program, and that's putting it lightly.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think most Iowa State fans would agree with that.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Um, I he's and and Travis brought up a good point in his little write-up.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: You know, early on in his tenure, he had a lot of good players on that team.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, he had guys like Shayog, guys like Talen Horton Tucker.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if he was there.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I I think he was, but uh dudes that are really good.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Halliburton, they had a lot of good players on this team that are now NBA or G League or playing overseas.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, professional basketball players now.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Um, and they just couldn't get those NCA tournament wins.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: They couldn't really, you know, do all that great in conference.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: And the last few seasons have been just absolutely brutal.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: So uh I I completely understand um the uh the the hate that Prome is getting.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm I'm honestly surprised he's survived until now, to be honest.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: But we'll see what Iowa State does.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're I think they're gonna be without Rasir Bolton tonight, who's one of their better players on this you know, bad team.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: So uh we'll see.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, we just take care of business and just win by 30.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh sorry to to our boy Travis and any other Iowa State fans, but I I I I do hope we do another TCU game.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: It's just yeah, I don't want this to be close.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: You still have football, Iowa State.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, you just you won the Fiesta Bowl.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: It's kind of flipping the script.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, we're we're kind of the opposite of what they're doing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, our football program has been teetering the last few years, and our basketball program's been rising.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Well, it's the complete opposite over there, so yeah, we've been mirrored images, so I know, yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: So, you know, just just take in football season.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: We we had to we had to sit through all the football season, so you got to sit through all the basketball season.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Great, great way to put it.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: So, what could you summarize what he had to say about it?
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, that's basically what he said.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: He just he just is super disappointed.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: He says the basketball program is kind of the backbone of backbone of the athletics uh at Iowa State, and that's because you know they've had a long history of being really good.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Um, so you know, yeah, I can understand seeing seeing a program fall like that and being two and nineteen, possibly going two and twenty uh for the season or two and twenty one, whatever it is, uh, and going winless in conference.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's happened since like TCU, their first or second year in the Big 12.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Uh shoot.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: So are they looking at what an 11 seed in the tournament?
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Or what do you mean?
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: They're looking at this.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, two to win Iowa State is gonna win the whole thing, I think.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: They're gonna you know pull off a 14 seed or something.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: No, but no, I mean, I guess there's still a chance if they win.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: There is if they win the Big 12 championship, but uh yeah, we uh you know Iowa State should be a breeze tonight.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: I I'm gonna regret saying this if we end up losing one of the knock on the the desks right now, yeah.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: And like what Travis told you, he said this would probably be the worst loss in tech basketball history if we lost tonight.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, uh knocking on wood, hoping that doesn't happen.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: But uh hopefully by tomorrow this will all be for not and that we just came off a big win.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Let's get a little a little more football revenge on the clones.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Is there any other game we should talk about?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Well, Baylor.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Baylor's the last game of the season.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: We're playing them on Sunday, I believe.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, and it's Baylor.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: They're they're awesome, but not undefeated, but not undefeated anymore.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They lost to Kansas, they are vulnerable, they had two weeks off.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Um, and I uh we do go to Waco.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Not saying much though, because Waco, they the fans just don't show out for Baylor.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: It's the same thing with TCU, the small, uh, the small religious schools, they just don't, uh their fan base just doesn't show out.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: So um it it is still gonna be tough because Baylor's awesome and they're really good and they're gonna be a one seed in the tournament or whatever.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, I think we have a solid chance we're playing our best basketball that I've seen so far right now.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: So, you know, carry that momentum in, maybe get a get a big dub.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, there's a few different scenarios going into the Big 12 tournament.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, the the thing I would stress is we don't want to be a seven seed going into this tournament because that just means an extra game for us.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: And it's gonna be a game against Iowa State because Iowa State is is the is gonna be the 10th seed going in.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: It's just another game that you don't need to play.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: It's it's so uh the scenario situation right now.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: If you're talking tech, if they beat Iowa State and Baylor, they'll definitely be a six-seater better.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: So that's good news.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: We're gonna wait until this I'm right now, it's so tight with everybody.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Um if we drop one of Iowa State and Baylor, we need Oklahoma to lose to Texas in their final game because we own the tiebreaker over OU.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: And if OU gets one more loss and we get one more loss, we're still tied.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: So we would get the tiebreaker and we would be a sixth seed.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Um, also, UT's kind of in the mix as well.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, I I think if they lose a game, and but we would have to beat Iowa State and Baylor to jump UT.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: So uh it's a whole lot right now.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: We just don't want to be the seventh seed because we don't want to play that extra game.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: We've already played so many games in such a tight window.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: We need we need to rest guys, so even that extra day or two of rest helps a lot.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: And uh all that makes tons of sense.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: And the kind of seeding I want to be talking about soon is the dance, baby.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: No doubt, no doubt.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: I think right now we're projected to be a six seed uh in the latest Lenardi uh bracketology thing.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, if we can get a big win over Baylor and if we can, you know, pull out some wins in the Big 12 tournament, I could see us going up to a four, possibly three seed.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, and and that's that's what Kyler said in the press conference after the TCU game.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: He was just like, we're just trying to improve our our our seeding, our tournament seeding right now.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, because you know, the better seed, the better, just the better situation you're gonna be.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: You're gonna be playing worse teams to start off, and then you know, you know how a tournament works.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: So um, but yeah, man, we uh you know, pull out some dubs to end the season and and get a higher just going with momentum into the into the tournament is just good news.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: I'd say we're off with to a good start with that.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: So let's keep it rolling.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: No doubt for sure.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: So I have nothing else on sports.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Do you have anything else?
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: I have no more comments on the sports.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: No more, right on.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Well, then I guess we could just get into song of the week.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Why don't you start us off here?
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: All right, so my song of the week, I I hope it's not controversial with the treasured listeners.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: It's it's a Midland song.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: I know Midland has got mixed reviews in Texas, but um, I you know, even even though they're not the most real group in the world, they do have a nice sound for Nashville.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but I really dig it on their song, Cheatin' Songs, is just sleazy, it's smooth, it's so good.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: It's like just a classic, it's got the classic theme of a country song of like of the other old like 80s or 70s.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and it's just it's like I said, it's a sleazy song.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Is his girl's cheating on him and he's just kind of speculating on it, and it's great, it's a great song.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: So just smooth jam.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: She's bringing back some hurt, it's you singing along.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: South and circumstances, she's lying with him, and she's lying to me.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, so why and why is Midland controversial?
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Well, if whenever they're trying to sell the bands when they're first debuting, they were saying how they cut their teeth in Texas honky tonks, and and and if anything, they came out of Austin, I suppose.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: But you know, it's like, do you remember them going to Lubbock?
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: No.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Do you live?
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: Do you remember them going to like in anything anywhere else?
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: No, it is just that's how they tried to sell themselves, and of course, everyone was like, You didn't come out of the Texas country scene.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: That's what they're trying to say.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: It's a band named Midland, too.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: You'd think they would come out of the Texas country scene, but I know it's they're they're Texas guys, but they're just they weren't they weren't they didn't come out of Texas country scene.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: But I still I obviously that was a mistake in marketing, but I still think they put out a fun sound.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, right on.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: Well, cool.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Song of the week, I'll have to check it out.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Um, my song of the week comes with a little bit of uh frustration on my end.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Uh a little mini rant, not really a rant, but uh my song of the week is other side by the red hot chili peppers.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: I thought that I've been brought up the pale.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: Once you know you can never go back, I gotta take it on the other side.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And my uh my beef comes with it's a great song, first off.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Fun listen.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: The red-hot chili peppers are great.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: My beef comes with the fan, not the fan, the the people that dislike the red-hot chili peppers, and they're out there.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Um, and I understand not it being your sound or whatever, but I think they're kind of getting uh the office treatment or the friends treatment that comes on social media.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: People are pushing back on the office isn't funny, friends isn't funny, the red-hot chili peppers aren't aren't good.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Like, I think people need to chill out a little bit because those shows are great, and I think it's just people that are hating to hate.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: See, there's not, there's there's not, yeah, that's it.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: It's hating them for being popular, and it's the same thing that happens with the office and friends, it's the same thing.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Listen, I'm not like the biggest like friends dude, I'm not going over and buying like a friend shirt or like a jello, uh stapler and jello shirt or something like that for the office, but I like those shows, they are quality and funny shows, and I think they just I think people just hate on them to hate on them.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry you're so upset.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: Damn, I'm upset.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: I don't like it.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: I I can't believe this song of the week turned into a rant.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: It did, it turned into a rant because I've always comp like compared those two because people have been hating on the red hot chili peppers for a while just to hate on the red hot chili peppers.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: So don't like it.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm sure they they appreciate you defending them.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, give me give me uh free tickets when concerts come back.

- 38:47SPEAKER_00: So, flea, what do you say about Texas Tech Sports?
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: He's like, Well, I like the Lakers, I'm big LA guy.
