- 0:21Speaker 1: All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here
- 0:24Speaker 1: at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running
- 0:27Speaker 1: weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over eleven
- 0:30Speaker 1: and a half years strong. And here in week eleven,
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Commanders by a score
- 0:37Speaker 1: of twenty six to eighteen. At the link. The Philadelphia
- 0:40Speaker 1: Eagles now eight and two on the season, their rivals
- 0:45Speaker 1: and for that top spot in the NFC East, the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Washington Commanders now seven and four on the season. I
- 0:51Speaker 1: am Jeff Warren. I'm here at my good buddy Matt
- 0:55Speaker 1: Rogers from the Honorable Mentioned podcast. You can search Matt
- 0:58Speaker 1: out at Politidope on threads and also search out the
- 1:02Speaker 1: Honorable Mention podcast as well. I subscribe on Apple Podcasts
- 1:06Speaker 1: and the Honorable Mentioned podcast is on threads as well. Matt, buddy,
- 1:10Speaker 1: good to talk to you. It's great to get into
- 1:13Speaker 1: this this match up here. Man, Holy cow, I mean,
- 1:18Speaker 1: let's get into our themes right off the bat. Okay,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I think it's safe to say that both teams look
- 1:24Speaker 1: like they were on a short week. Both teams really
- 1:28Speaker 1: looked like get right out of the gate.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The offense is for one more than the other towards
- 1:31Speaker 2: the end. Yes, absolutely than the other.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Offenses on both teams weren't executing well at the start
- 1:37Speaker 1: of the game. Eagles certainly did not play a great
- 1:39Speaker 1: offensive game, but at the end of the day, they
- 1:42Speaker 1: found ways to win late in the game. Here, Matt
- 1:45Speaker 1: so A wins a win. I love it. It wasn't perfect,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but they're now one of the top teams in the NFC.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Absolutely. I texted you at halftime when it wasn't looking
- 1:56Speaker 2: so good seven to three, I texted you that according
- 1:59Speaker 2: to my keys to VIC, we were well on track
- 2:01Speaker 2: to do what we needed to do. My three keys
- 2:04Speaker 2: for the listeners and for you, because I didn't share
- 2:06Speaker 2: them with you, and I wanted to share them for
- 2:08Speaker 2: the people. So I wanted. I wanted twenty seven rushes
- 2:12Speaker 2: from the Eagles twenty seven. We ended up rushing the
- 2:15Speaker 2: ball forty forty times. Saquan himself had twenty six for
- 2:19Speaker 2: one forty six and two touchdowns. Uh. My second key
- 2:22Speaker 2: to victory was keeping Terry McLaurin under one fifty. I
- 2:26Speaker 2: thought he would really be able to have his way,
- 2:29Speaker 2: mister mcla. Mister McLaurin one catch for ten yards. Two targets.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That sounds two targets, oh, I know. And then my
- 2:39Speaker 2: third key to victory was was Robinson under one hundred
- 2:42Speaker 2: and twenty five yards or two touchdowns. He was held
- 2:46Speaker 2: to seventy two yards and one touchdown. I think across
- 2:51Speaker 2: the board short of Jake Elliott's missus and a couple
- 2:55Speaker 2: of you know people shoe string tackles from Saquon Barkley.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, this team looks like a top four team
- 3:03Speaker 2: in the NFL. Absolutely. I don't know how. I don't
- 3:07Speaker 2: know how you argue that they're not a people could
- 3:09Speaker 2: say you're not the best, their top four, top five
- 3:12Speaker 2: team in football.
- 3:13Speaker 1: They absolutely are. And it really is due in part
- 3:18Speaker 1: to not only this Eagles defense, which we're gonna get
- 3:21Speaker 1: into in a little bit, but Saquon Barkley. Week after
- 3:24Speaker 1: week after week, he went over a thousand yards rushing
- 3:28Speaker 1: for the season. It's the earliest that he's reached this
- 3:31Speaker 1: mark ever in his career. Coming into this game, Matt
- 3:35Speaker 1: nine hundred and ninety one yards on the ground, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: he did it in nine games last season. Last season
- 3:40Speaker 1: with the New York Giants, he had nine hundred and
- 3:43Speaker 1: sixty two yards on the ground in fourteen games.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Unbet professional football team, professional football team.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah, professional football team with a professional offense.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Oftensibly yes, ostensibly the New York Giants ostensibly allegedly professional.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Came into this game with eight total touchdowns against the Commanders,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the most any or I should say, the most against
- 4:08Speaker 1: any team in the NFL, and he tacked on two
- 4:11Speaker 1: more to make it ten. Ten touchdowns against the Commanders,
- 4:15Speaker 1: the most by the most against any team in the NFL.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Look this Kwan Barkley, Top three MVP candidate. Absolutely sorry, yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 1: No, absolutely absolutely because this offense, this Eagles offense, they
- 4:28Speaker 1: do not work without Saquon Barkley this season, plain and simple.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You look at the pie, the percentage of the pie. Yes,
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's Jalen Hurts and what he's able to do in
- 4:38Speaker 1: terms of extending plays, extending plays with his legs, finding
- 4:43Speaker 1: open receivers when when he is able to find open receivers.
- 4:46Speaker 1: We will certainly get into Jalen in a little bit,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but it's just amazing to see Saquon Barkley week in
- 4:53Speaker 1: week out running as dominant as he has been. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: what's interesting though, in this game, Matt, is that the
- 4:58Speaker 1: interior run game was no as prevalent and dominant as
- 5:01Speaker 1: it has been in previous games. The outside run game
- 5:04Speaker 1: actually fared a lot better for Saquon Barkley. But then
- 5:08Speaker 1: we then he surprises us. He's got those two touchdowns
- 5:11Speaker 1: that you mentioned, you know, rushing inside, came within a
- 5:15Speaker 1: span of twenty seconds of each other, by the way,
- 5:19Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, and it was because of a turnover.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But man, if it's not for Saquon, I don't know
- 5:26Speaker 1: where this team is at here in week eleven, Matten
- 5:29Speaker 1: not eight and two. No, I'll say that right right,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think that's very fair.
- 5:34Speaker 2: To say they they maybe what six and what six
- 5:41Speaker 2: and three? Six and four team?
- 5:43Speaker 1: It could be that.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the one the one drop. People would say, oh,
- 5:48Speaker 2: he owes us one. Well, he's more than gotten us
- 5:50Speaker 2: back from that drop against the Falcons on Monday Night football. Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean, just for all the fans who like the
- 5:55Speaker 2: hold things, and I mean you'd like to try to go.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Saquon Barkley is having is well on his way to
- 6:06Speaker 2: having the best Eagles running back season of my lifetime.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And I'm and I'm in my mid thirties. I'm not
- 6:13Speaker 2: gonna give all my information out right.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't. We don't need to let people know how.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Sadie's pretty good, Westbrook's pretty good. Saquon Barkley, what he's
- 6:25Speaker 2: doing in this one season is just on another level.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It really is the past his best.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It's on the television, it's in within eyeview of me.
- 6:33Speaker 2: He's already surpassed his twenty eighteen season and cry about
- 6:37Speaker 2: sixty yards.
- 6:38Speaker 1: It's it's incredible. It goes to show. As we have
- 6:41Speaker 1: said time and time on this podcast, longtime listeners are
- 6:44Speaker 1: probably tired of me here saying this over and over again,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but if you have a solid offensive line, if you
- 6:49Speaker 1: have a consistently solid offensive line, you're gonna do really
- 6:53Speaker 1: good things in the NFL. At the end of the day,
- 6:56Speaker 1: they are the foundation for everything. They're the foundation for
- 7:00Speaker 1: the run game. They're the foundation for the pass game.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And or want to get into this pass game, and
- 7:04Speaker 1: I want to get into Jalen Hurts with you as well.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Lots of pre SAT motion in this game, more than
- 7:10Speaker 1: I have seen in quite some time. But Jalen Hurts
- 7:13Speaker 1: was not under center as much in this game as
- 7:16Speaker 1: he has been the previous couple weeks. Matt. Look, he
- 7:20Speaker 1: had wide open receivers in this game, especially on third
- 7:23Speaker 1: down the first quarter, and he's staring at the wide
- 7:25Speaker 1: receivers especially we all know which one it is. It's
- 7:28Speaker 1: the DeVante Smith him just with I don't know if
- 7:33Speaker 1: it was a mesh concept necessarily, but he's coming over
- 7:36Speaker 1: the middle of the field Jalen. He's right in front
- 7:39Speaker 1: of Jalen, and it's just the least is and he's
- 7:45Speaker 1: he's got to get rid of again the theme of
- 7:47Speaker 1: you got to get rid of the ball earlier on
- 7:49Speaker 1: some of these throws, especially earlier in this game. It
- 7:52Speaker 1: just takes him a while to get warmed up. And
- 7:54Speaker 1: you shot a text off to me, Matt that I
- 7:56Speaker 1: thought was just absolutely one correct. It's always AJ Brown
- 8:01Speaker 1: the first option and then the third option that he's
- 8:05Speaker 1: looking at the second receiver. Check on aj Gad. Yes, yes,
- 8:11Speaker 1: I look, this team is winning. This team is now
- 8:15Speaker 1: eating because A. J.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Brown is a top three receiver and top five, top
- 8:19Speaker 2: five easily. I mean, he's pretty much unguardable and Jalen
- 8:27Speaker 2: Jalen missed him on a couple of could have been touchdowns,
- 8:30Speaker 2: I mean just flat out missed him today and Jalen
- 8:32Speaker 2: would say that. I'm not trying to I'm not trying
- 8:34Speaker 2: to kill Jalen because I think overall we'll get into
- 8:36Speaker 2: our grades about how well we thought guys played. I
- 8:38Speaker 2: didn't think Jalen played his best game, not at all,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but he had he had, he had some misses.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely absolutely. Is there any other Yeah? Is there
- 8:48Speaker 1: any other themes you want to get into? In terms
- 8:49Speaker 1: of the offense here, It's great to have Jordan my
- 8:52Speaker 1: lotta back. I'll say that right off the bat, But uh,
- 8:54Speaker 1: in terms of the offense, I don't really have to
- 8:56Speaker 1: too much else. I definitely want to get into the defense.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But do you have any else for the offense?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Matt? Can I just say Saquon Barkley is good at
- 9:04Speaker 2: football again, Absolutely, I love it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Number twenty six is one of the best, and we
- 9:10Speaker 1: got him. We got him. Love it absolutely. Let's talk
- 9:13Speaker 1: about the defense here. Look, you mentioned Terry McLaurin. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: was concerned about him as well. He was not targeted
- 9:20Speaker 1: once in the first half, and he wasn't targeted until
- 9:24Speaker 1: approximately four minutes into the third quarter. What an amazing
- 9:29Speaker 1: job by Quinjon Mitchell and overall Washington's wide receivers, by
- 9:34Speaker 1: the way, gained four yards on five targets in the
- 9:37Speaker 1: first half. That is some shutdown secondary play right there
- 9:40Speaker 1: by the Philadelphia Eagles. Because you know what, Jayden Daniels,
- 9:43Speaker 1: he's a pretty damn good quarterback. He is a really
- 9:46Speaker 1: good quarterback, and he's probably he could potentially be Rookie
- 9:49Speaker 1: of the Year. And this Philadelphia Eagles secondary that has
- 9:52Speaker 1: been revamped and are playing so well in concert with
- 9:56Speaker 1: each other, they absolutely shut down this receiver corps and
- 9:59Speaker 1: j Daniels was not able to really get it done today.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You look at his stats twenty two of thirty two,
- 10:05Speaker 1: one ninety one yards, only six yards per attempt, touchdown,
- 10:10Speaker 1: an interception. He ended with a rating of eighty one
- 10:12Speaker 1: point six. A lot of those passes, I got to
- 10:14Speaker 1: tell you, folks. Though we're in garbage time with less
- 10:17Speaker 1: than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Jaden Daniels
- 10:20Speaker 1: did not have that great of a game. Wide. Receivers
- 10:22Speaker 1: tight ends really were not open in this game. When
- 10:25Speaker 1: Austin Eckler is your leading receiver with eighty nine yards
- 10:28Speaker 1: on eight receptions, it's not the greatest day for him,
- 10:32Speaker 1: exactly exactly so, this Eagles defense especially the secondary absolutely
- 10:37Speaker 1: played lights out in this game. I love what we're
- 10:39Speaker 1: seeing from what Vic Fangio has done since the bye week.
- 10:42Speaker 1: We're all talking about it. It's a huge theme throughout
- 10:45Speaker 1: the NFL as well. The Philadephia Eagles defense is for
- 10:48Speaker 1: real here, Matt.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I can't believe we're saying it because we were killing
- 10:54Speaker 2: these guys earlier in the season. Yes, they are, they
- 10:57Speaker 2: have figured it, and I mean, what the heck? I mean, sure,
- 11:01Speaker 2: as Zach Bond for the real goes out here like
- 11:04Speaker 2: us who like who like football, and you notice random
- 11:07Speaker 2: good special teams players when they play against your team
- 11:10Speaker 2: at least I mean, but I mean for him to
- 11:13Speaker 2: be playing at this level at the linebacker position, I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 2: just Stonewall and Jaden Daniels on that on that key
- 11:20Speaker 2: third down play, I mean, it was an incredible just
- 11:24Speaker 2: and I really, while we're there, another theme for the
- 11:27Speaker 2: Commanders for anybody you know, you know you might have
- 11:30Speaker 2: just been passing by the pop cast. I really do
- 11:35Speaker 2: worry for for Jadon Daniels. I think that he's getting
- 11:38Speaker 2: a lot put on his shoulders. He is and he
- 11:41Speaker 2: and and his ribs are you can already tell that
- 11:44Speaker 2: he's he's hurting. He's a tough young man, and I
- 11:48Speaker 2: kind of feel for him. I think he's getting I
- 11:51Speaker 2: think he's getting whacked out there, and they gotta, you know,
- 11:54Speaker 2: get that guy some peanut butter and jelly or something.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, they do. Look Zach Bond. Everybody's saying it at
- 11:59Speaker 1: this point, Howie, You've got to sign him. He's not
- 12:02Speaker 1: only everywhere in terms of pursuit to the ball, he's
- 12:06Speaker 1: actually playing pretty well in coverage too. Matt. He's playing
- 12:10Speaker 1: very well in coverage. I mean, he's got a pass
- 12:12Speaker 1: defended today, and that is consistent game after game. He
- 12:17Speaker 1: is not playing terrible in coverage. When's the last time
- 12:20Speaker 1: we've seen an Eagles linebacker playing really well in coverage?
- 12:23Speaker 1: Nakobe Dean playing really well in coverage. No, we're gonna
- 12:26Speaker 1: get to our grades in a little bit here, but again,
- 12:29Speaker 1: the linebacker's doing fantastic work and fantastic jobs during these
- 12:34Speaker 1: last few games, and they've been so consistent, and that's
- 12:38Speaker 1: what's great to see. There's one other defensive player too
- 12:40Speaker 1: that I really want to or actually two that I
- 12:42Speaker 1: want to mention here. In terms of our themes, I
- 12:46Speaker 1: think we need to start mentioning and talking about Nolan Smith,
- 12:49Speaker 1: who came up with a big sack force a commander's
- 12:52Speaker 1: punt in the third quarter. He's now up to three
- 12:55Speaker 1: and a half sacks in ten games this season after
- 12:58Speaker 1: only having one sack in sevenventeen games last year. Matt,
- 13:02Speaker 1: he's developing. Yes, three and a half sacks, maybe not
- 13:05Speaker 1: the greatest number in the world, but I like the progress.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I like what we're seeing from Nolan Smith. I like
- 13:10Speaker 1: the fact that he's been able to get into the backfield.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I like the fact that he's part of the pressure
- 13:16Speaker 1: with regard to the to the pass rush. We're seeing it.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Three and a half sacks, a lot better than one
- 13:21Speaker 1: last year. We've still got more games to go. I
- 13:24Speaker 1: think we should start just talking about the fact that
- 13:26Speaker 1: Nolan Smith is developing. Here. May not be the greatest
- 13:29Speaker 1: pass rusher in the world, but he's a contributor.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Man. All you need is guys to contribute the way
- 13:34Speaker 2: that they like to run it. And really they've decreased huffs, snaps,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and he's playing better. He's been more disruptive over the
- 13:42Speaker 2: last couple of games. So you give, you give Nolan.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I mean, Nolan's Nolan's measurable traits are just off the
- 13:49Speaker 2: off the scale. I mean, if he develops according to
- 13:52Speaker 2: his it may not be immediate, but you know, three
- 13:55Speaker 2: four five ears down the line, and he's around with
- 13:58Speaker 2: Brandon Graham, who you know did come around immediately a
- 14:01Speaker 2: lot of other guys who have that kind of similar
- 14:04Speaker 2: career trajectory. So I think Nolan Smith could really be
- 14:08Speaker 2: a player for this team already, you know, causing havoc
- 14:11Speaker 2: and even out there defending passes. I really hate the
- 14:15Speaker 2: d N drop back. They've done it. Vic's done it
- 14:18Speaker 2: a bit with him. He has made a couple of plays.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I do have to say he's made a couple of plays.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, he is developing, for sure. The other defensive player
- 14:26Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about, and I don't think he's
- 14:28Speaker 1: getting as much love as he should throughout the NFL
- 14:32Speaker 1: and even within Eagles Nation, especially over the past four games.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Matt.
- 14:36Speaker 1: And that is one Jalen Carter. Jalen Carter with seven
- 14:43Speaker 1: total tackles in this game, one tackle for a loss.
- 14:47Speaker 1: The way that he has been able to get in
- 14:49Speaker 1: the backfield, the way that he has been learning as
- 14:51Speaker 1: well and continuing to develop even in terms of getting
- 14:56Speaker 1: past double coverage and making sure that he's putting pressure
- 14:59Speaker 1: on the quarterback. Jalen Carter is turning out to be
- 15:02Speaker 1: that very special, very special defensive lineman, and he's only
- 15:07Speaker 1: gonna get better. I think we're continuing to see it
- 15:09Speaker 1: week after week. Jalen Carter is going to be a
- 15:13Speaker 1: top pass rusher in the NFL within the next couple years,
- 15:18Speaker 1: if not sooner. He's continuing to develop it all already.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Has he already on any given night, is the best
- 15:26Speaker 2: defensive player on either side of the field. For stretches
- 15:29Speaker 2: of a game. Jalen Carter just takes over. I mean,
- 15:32Speaker 2: he's just you'll see it. If you guys are again
- 15:35Speaker 2: into sports highlights and everything, you'll be able to see
- 15:38Speaker 2: the film where they're sending double teams and chip blockers
- 15:42Speaker 2: at him and he's just throwing people around. I mean,
- 15:44Speaker 2: making absolutely huge stops on key drives against the Commanders,
- 15:49Speaker 2: pushing them back where they got second and one, and
- 15:51Speaker 2: he pushes them back it's third and two. They end
- 15:53Speaker 2: up not getting it. I mean, just absolutely huge plays
- 15:56Speaker 2: that are creating the opportunities for Nakobe Dean and Zach
- 15:59Speaker 2: Ball to run downhill. I mean him, Jalen Carter and
- 16:03Speaker 2: Jordan Davis are just absolutely huge human beings that and
- 16:06Speaker 2: when they're playing at their best, you got a big
- 16:09Speaker 2: problem in your hands. Absolutely and figuratively.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Absolutely. Look, this is the sixth straight win for the
- 16:16Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, and they are not only on a roll,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but they're continuing from a rush defense perspective to hold
- 16:25Speaker 1: teams under one hundred yards. They held the Jacksonville Jaguars
- 16:29Speaker 1: to only sixty yards rushing, the Dallas Cowboys to what
- 16:34Speaker 1: was it, ninety seven yards rushing. They are continuing to
- 16:38Speaker 1: get the job done. This is what championship teams do.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I hesitate to say it. I mean they held this
- 16:46Speaker 1: this Washington Commander's prolific rushing talent to ninety three yards rushing. Here,
- 16:53Speaker 1: They're continuing to get it done. This is what championship
- 16:56Speaker 1: teams do. And again, I don't want to put the
- 16:58Speaker 1: car before the horse, because we know how things are
- 17:00Speaker 1: within Eagles Nation jinxing things here. But this defense has
- 17:05Speaker 1: also had eleven takeaways in the last five games, and
- 17:09Speaker 1: for most of this game, this Eagles defense held the
- 17:11Speaker 1: Washington Commander's offense. It's only ten points.
- 17:14Speaker 2: It was amazing to watch the garbage time six. The
- 17:17Speaker 2: garbage time six. You're absolutely right. And and and another
- 17:21Speaker 2: key stat here to your to your point. Jayden Daniels
- 17:24Speaker 2: ran the ball tonight seven times for eighteen yards.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 2: So, and he's a he's a mobile quarterback who can
- 17:30Speaker 2: make plays. They absolutely closed to the ball and absolutely
- 17:34Speaker 2: just whacked him. I mean from a from a competitive standpoint,
- 17:37Speaker 2: not hoping that he's hurt. Right, I mean, it was good.
- 17:39Speaker 2: It's it's good. It's good football. I mean I'll probably
- 17:42Speaker 2: watch a couple of those back.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely. All right, Well, buddy, before we take our
- 17:48Speaker 1: break here and before we get to our grades, do
- 17:51Speaker 1: you have anything else, any other themes you want to
- 17:53Speaker 1: get into.
- 17:54Speaker 2: No, we went over at Saquon Barkley and Jalen Carter,
- 17:57Speaker 2: who I would get my game balls to. That's the theme.
- 17:59Speaker 1: All right, very good. Well, let's take a quick break here, folks.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We're gonna be back in just a bit. We're gonna
- 18:04Speaker 1: grade each unit and then the coaching stick with us.
- 18:07Speaker 1: We'll be right back. All right, We are back and
- 18:10Speaker 1: again with our good friend of the pod, Matt Rogers
- 18:14Speaker 1: from the Honorable Mention podcast at Politi dope over on
- 18:18Speaker 1: threads and check out the Honorable Mention podcast as well.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I subscribe on Apple Podcasts. You can subscribe on whatever
- 18:25Speaker 1: podcast platform you're on. Matt's on YouTube as well, doing
- 18:28Speaker 1: good stuff. So let's get into these grades here. Jalen
- 18:33Speaker 1: Hurts here, Okay, not the best game, as we said earlier,
- 18:36Speaker 1: not the best game in the world. Eighteen of twenty
- 18:38Speaker 1: eight for two hundred and twenty one yards seven point
- 18:41Speaker 1: nine yards per attempt. He did not throw a touchdown,
- 18:43Speaker 1: he did not throw an interception. Very happy about that.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Two sacks this week, which I'm fine with considering the
- 18:50Speaker 1: five last week down in Dallas ended within a rating
- 18:53Speaker 1: of eighty eight point five. I'm gonna give Jalen Hurts
- 18:56Speaker 1: this week a B minus. What do you give a Matt.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Give him a bee? I think I think it definitely
- 19:03Speaker 2: doesn't show up in the statistics. For it to show
- 19:05Speaker 2: up in the statistics and people to really feel good
- 19:08Speaker 2: about Jalen and I get it, and I think that
- 19:10Speaker 2: it's fair to grade him because he is one of
- 19:12Speaker 2: the very best quarterbacks in the league. To say that
- 19:15Speaker 2: he should be somewhere in the neighborhood of three hundred
- 19:18Speaker 2: yards that means he's got a hit up over the top,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and we really didn't really get one of those today.
- 19:23Speaker 2: The biggest one of those was the chunk play to
- 19:26Speaker 2: one of those to Saquon, and you got one to
- 19:29Speaker 2: Dallas Goddard. So I would go with a bee because
- 19:32Speaker 2: he absolutely he makes some of those plays that the
- 19:36Speaker 2: a key third and six where he makes a couple
- 19:38Speaker 2: guys miss and he finishes over a guy. It's the
- 19:41Speaker 2: momentum play. You know, he ran ten times for thirty
- 19:44Speaker 2: nine yards. That's three point nine, but you know those
- 19:47Speaker 2: are those are some important three point nine sometimes and
- 19:50Speaker 2: sometimes they're fourteen yard runs. Absolutely, I think the ball
- 19:55Speaker 2: handling between he and Saquon Barkley is just getting so
- 19:58Speaker 2: much better. I mean sometimes they're completely faking out the
- 20:01Speaker 2: cameras and good it's good stuff. There's good stuff on
- 20:06Speaker 2: the way if folks stay healthy. Absolutely, I gotta give
- 20:09Speaker 2: him a B B. But I think you said B minus.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I won't argue too much with that because there were
- 20:14Speaker 2: some misses there too.
- 20:16Speaker 1: There absolutely were. I mean, he's still missing receivers every
- 20:19Speaker 1: now and again. But I'll say this too, and it's ok.
- 20:22Speaker 1: It's okay. I think if We're able to say this
- 20:26Speaker 1: because once again, this team is not winning because of
- 20:30Speaker 1: Jalen Hurds and doesn't have to win because of Jalen Hurts.
- 20:33Speaker 1: They're winning with him, right. He's managing things very well
- 20:36Speaker 1: from an offensive perspective in a lot of different ways. Look,
- 20:39Speaker 1: four hundred and thirty four total yards on the day,
- 20:42Speaker 1: twenty three first downs to the Commander's eighteen first downs,
- 20:46Speaker 1: the time of possession thirty three minutes and four seconds
- 20:49Speaker 1: the Eagles add to the Commander's twenty six minutes and
- 20:52Speaker 1: fifty six seconds. How about this stat which I love,
- 20:55Speaker 1: third down efficiency? The Eagles were nine of sixteen and
- 20:59Speaker 1: the commit three of twelve. I right there, especially in
- 21:05Speaker 1: terms of third down efficiency. Some of those third downs
- 21:08Speaker 1: with Jalen Hurts using his legs as well, but he's
- 21:11Speaker 1: finding either receivers here or using his legs in order
- 21:15Speaker 1: two in order to get third downs. And Saquon Barkley
- 21:19Speaker 1: as well, So B minus for me. Uh, Saquon Barkley,
- 21:23Speaker 1: this he's getting an A plus, A plus? What do
- 21:29Speaker 1: you give him?
- 21:31Speaker 2: I would kind of a little lower, I say, I
- 21:33Speaker 2: think Saquon he's just so incredible. He finished so strong.
- 21:37Speaker 2: The stats look really good. They are really good. Yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 2: he's incredible. He's an MVP candidate. Early in the game,
- 21:44Speaker 2: I think he I think he took a couple of
- 21:47Speaker 2: wrong hold. I think again, if if these guys are
- 21:50Speaker 2: being honest with themselves and looking at the film, I
- 21:52Speaker 2: think that he missed a couple of holes, ran into
- 21:54Speaker 2: his own guy. That happens a time or two. So
- 21:59Speaker 2: I think he cap left a little meat on the
- 22:02Speaker 2: bone early in the game. He did finish incredibly strong.
- 22:05Speaker 2: So if you say a plus, I'm not really gonna
- 22:08Speaker 2: fight you on that, because, Okay, the guy, that's what
- 22:11Speaker 2: he's doing every week. I mean, this is incredible. It's
- 22:14Speaker 2: one of these crazy seasons when a running back has
- 22:16Speaker 2: just taken over the football the entire league.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Exactly twenty six carries, one hundred and forty six yards,
- 22:22Speaker 1: five point six yards for her rush, and two touchdowns
- 22:25Speaker 1: as long was thirty nine yards. I gotta give him
- 22:28Speaker 1: an a plus for that. I really do so, all right. Well,
- 22:32Speaker 1: Receiving the tight ends and wide receivers, AJ Brown, with
- 22:36Speaker 1: eight targets on the day, came down with five balls
- 22:38Speaker 1: for sixty five yards. Dallas Goddard getting five targets, came
- 22:41Speaker 1: down with all of them for sixty one yards. His
- 22:44Speaker 1: long was thirty two yards. And Saquon he caught two
- 22:48Speaker 1: balls for fifty two yards. Davonte Smith, excuse me, targeted
- 22:53Speaker 1: six times, came down with four balls for twenty nine yards.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I just want him to get Smitty involved more into
- 22:59Speaker 1: this offense. I really want to want to see more Smidty.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But overall, the receivers average twelve point three yards per
- 23:06Speaker 1: reception and this team is not not really getting a
- 23:10Speaker 1: lot of receiving touchdowns here. That's not the way this
- 23:13Speaker 1: Eagles offense works. It's a run first offense. But still,
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the wide receivers this week because they
- 23:20Speaker 1: kind of did what they they should be doing. I'm
- 23:22Speaker 1: gonna give him a B plus. What do you give them?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Wow? That was that was That was a grace. I
- 23:27Speaker 2: mean I thought you were going to give him a
- 23:29Speaker 2: rougher grade. I would go more so with the be Okay,
- 23:32Speaker 2: I think uh that that that punch out fumble that
- 23:37Speaker 2: got Goddard had there towards the end, that could have
- 23:40Speaker 2: ended really bad. That's one of those that just you
- 23:42Speaker 2: got to I think.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That was a good defensive play though. I mean he
- 23:45Speaker 1: popped it out right. I mean, Goddard had it up
- 23:48Speaker 1: high like you're supposed to have the ball right to
- 23:50Speaker 1: secure it. He was making a football move at the time,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and the Commander's defender. Honestly, I thought he made just
- 23:56Speaker 1: a really nice play.
- 23:58Speaker 2: It really did. Yeah, you're right, so he said, I
- 24:02Speaker 2: can't go B plus yeah go B, go B. Then yes,
- 24:06Speaker 2: go B.
- 24:07Speaker 1: All right. Well, moving to the offensive line, I thought
- 24:10Speaker 1: there were some ups and downs, especially in the run
- 24:13Speaker 1: game early on, and there's only so long you can
- 24:16Speaker 1: you can protect Jalen Hurts before you got to you know,
- 24:19Speaker 1: break basically, you know, you know break, you know, or
- 24:22Speaker 1: hopefully not hold one of the defenders because look, the
- 24:26Speaker 1: Commanders have a prolific defensive line and they were they
- 24:29Speaker 1: were getting in the backfield first half of this game.
- 24:33Speaker 1: So I mean, I'm gonna it was. It was mostly
- 24:35Speaker 1: a very very good game for this the Eagles offensive line,
- 24:38Speaker 1: so I'm gonna give him a bee. Overall. There was
- 24:41Speaker 1: some stuff here and there where I was a little concerned,
- 24:43Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, they're opening up
- 24:46Speaker 1: holes for Saquon Barkley for him to run one hundred
- 24:48Speaker 1: and forty six yards those two touchdowns on those long runs.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So I'm gonna give him a B. Overall, what do
- 24:54Speaker 1: you give the offensive line?
- 24:56Speaker 2: I give him an A. I think that you've still
- 24:58Speaker 2: got some some some since to go. I really like
- 25:01Speaker 2: the development of Cam Jurgens. I really like that. You're
- 25:04Speaker 2: seeing a lot of pancakes out there. Yeah, Cam Jurgons,
- 25:07Speaker 2: look out for those. I'm starting to see it. I'm
- 25:12Speaker 2: not saying he's gonna be sixty two because I don't
- 25:14Speaker 2: know if you can replace the number sixty two. Jason thinks,
- 25:18Speaker 2: but you can't replace that. But he's looking he's looking
- 25:22Speaker 2: pretty good. Jordan Mylotta is getting back, knocking some of
- 25:26Speaker 2: the rest off. I think this team is rounded into shape. Hey,
- 25:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna give the offensive line of a All.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Right, sounds good. Let's move over to the defense. The
- 25:35Speaker 1: defensive line really getting a lot of pressure on Jayden
- 25:39Speaker 1: Daniels and you know, making making life tough for him
- 25:42Speaker 1: in this game, as they should have. And even though
- 25:46Speaker 1: in terms of the sack numbers wasn't the greatest day
- 25:50Speaker 1: again for Sabby three sacks, but eight tackles for a loss.
- 25:54Speaker 1: We saw, you know it just three quarterback hits with
- 25:58Speaker 1: a very very mobile quarterback. I mean, I'm not complaining
- 26:03Speaker 1: at all about this defensive line. I'm actually gonna give
- 26:06Speaker 1: them a B plus this week. What do you give them?
- 26:10Speaker 2: So I broke it out between just to try to
- 26:13Speaker 2: figure out where I'm at with as far as the
- 26:15Speaker 2: d tackles, I will give them a D A plus okay,
- 26:20Speaker 2: and the defensive ends, I would give them a B plus.
- 26:22Speaker 2: So between them, I'm gonna give those guys at A today.
- 26:25Speaker 2: They absolutely took over the game today, yep, to be
- 26:28Speaker 2: able to keep jayde and Daniels for the most part
- 26:30Speaker 2: in the pocket and not let them just go off.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I mean part of Terry McLaurin. I mean two targets.
- 26:37Speaker 2: That's insane.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It is that.
- 26:41Speaker 2: So I gotta i gotta give them a nay. Okay,
- 26:44Speaker 2: that's incredible, great job.
- 26:46Speaker 1: That's very fair, very fair, all right. The linebacker Zach
- 26:49Speaker 1: Bond na Kobe Dean, my gosh, as I mentioned earlier,
- 26:53Speaker 1: Zach Bond fifteen total tackles, a tackle for a loss,
- 26:56Speaker 1: a past defended. Nacobe Dean ten total tackles, one pass defended.
- 27:02Speaker 1: These guys are are getting stuff done in coverage. Yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I mean, look, it's not the most it's not the
- 27:07Speaker 1: prettiest in coverage, but holy and I love seeing him
- 27:10Speaker 1: at the top of the of the stat sheet here.
- 27:12Speaker 1: That's what should have that you your your linebackers at
- 27:17Speaker 1: the top of the stat sheet here. I love it
- 27:19Speaker 1: consistently week after week, Howie signed zach Bond to an extension.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I'm giving these guys an A plus this week, buddy,
- 27:26Speaker 1: what do you give them?
- 27:27Speaker 2: I only can't give him an A plus because I
- 27:32Speaker 2: know that I'm faster than zach Ertz at this I'm
- 27:35Speaker 2: probably not faster than Zach.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I gotcha, He's not very fast.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And zach Ertz had a ton of catches tonight right
- 27:42Speaker 2: or uh and and some key catches where you know
- 27:46Speaker 2: he's mouthing that they can't f with me, which I liked, good,
- 27:49Speaker 2: good stuff from him. But I I can't go with
- 27:53Speaker 2: a plus because there were a couple of times in
- 27:55Speaker 2: coverage right over the middle they were getting cooked up
- 27:57Speaker 2: a little bit, so I'll go with I'll go with
- 27:58Speaker 2: a but they definitely played really well, and especially zach Bond.
- 28:02Speaker 2: His contributions are huge.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely all right, Well, the secondary I am gonna
- 28:07Speaker 1: give just because you look at the receiving in this game.
- 28:12Speaker 1: When you have your top receivers for Washington in this
- 28:15Speaker 1: game where Austin Eckler, zach Ertz, John Bates, and then
- 28:20Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin again with only two targets catching one ball
- 28:24Speaker 1: for ten yards, and then Alamade Zakayas, Yes, it used
- 28:32Speaker 1: to the Eagles. Absolutely he had. Yeah, he had the
- 28:36Speaker 1: same stat line as Terry McLaurin. Two targets, one catch
- 28:39Speaker 1: for ten yards. It's just it's amazing. It's amazing what
- 28:44Speaker 1: the Eagles secondary did. I'm giving them an A plus
- 28:47Speaker 1: this week. I mean, we even got an interception in
- 28:50Speaker 1: this game. We even got an interception again from Reid
- 28:52Speaker 1: Blankenship for God's sake, you know he was there at
- 28:55Speaker 1: the right place at the right time. A plus for
- 28:59Speaker 1: what they've look Washington is a good team and they
- 29:03Speaker 1: are a good offense, and the Eagles secondary shut them down.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I'm given secondary and a plus.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Absolutely. I mean it's ten to twenty six. They scored
- 29:14Speaker 2: some garbage time points that those points counts count the same, sure, yep,
- 29:19Speaker 2: But this is before tonight, folks. Jaydon Daniels was considered
- 29:24Speaker 2: an MVP finalist. I mean not only just Rookie of
- 29:27Speaker 2: the year, maybe he run away Rookie of the Year,
- 29:31Speaker 2: right and MVP finalists. And so this Eagles team held
- 29:36Speaker 2: that guy to sixteen points and his best receiver two targets.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Two targets.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Says it all incredible? Yeah, it's incredible. All right, Well,
- 29:47Speaker 1: that is gonna do it for the units. Let's get
- 29:50Speaker 1: into some coaching. Let's get into some of what we
- 29:53Speaker 1: saw from special teams. Dear freaking lord, special teams, give
- 29:59Speaker 1: him a give. I'm giving him a d this week
- 30:02Speaker 1: because of Jake Elliott missed two field goals in the
- 30:04Speaker 1: first half, as many as he did all of last season.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Matt He's up to five misses on the season, under
- 30:11Speaker 1: eighty percent of his field goals have been made. Not good.
- 30:14Speaker 1: That's actually really not good. As somebody who has been
- 30:17Speaker 1: clutch for this team over many years. Now, two misses, yes,
- 30:21Speaker 1: they were from forty four and fifty one, but then
- 30:23Speaker 1: he missed an extra point as well. He cost the
- 30:25Speaker 1: Eagles seven points in this game. And yes, I do like,
- 30:31Speaker 1: honestly what I'm seeing in terms of the return game,
- 30:34Speaker 1: specifically from Cooper de jen He was averaging ten yards
- 30:37Speaker 1: per punt return. You don't see that too often in
- 30:39Speaker 1: the NFL, and quite will Shipley having a great return
- 30:44Speaker 1: for thirty three yards as well. I know you don't
- 30:46Speaker 1: like Kenneth gain Well, he had an eighteen yard or
- 30:48Speaker 1: wasn't terrible by any stretch. But still, I'm gonna give
- 30:51Speaker 1: Special Teams this week a D simply because of the
- 30:54Speaker 1: Jake Elliott situation. I hope it's just the fact that
- 30:57Speaker 1: it was a short week for whatever reason he was off,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but because he's been clutched, he's been absolutely clutched. So
- 31:03Speaker 1: I'm giving him a D. What do you give him?
- 31:06Speaker 2: I think you spelled it out very nicely. I give
- 31:09Speaker 2: him a little higher grade. I give him a D plus, Okay,
- 31:11Speaker 2: I think that. Yeah, those big returns and overall the
- 31:15Speaker 2: units played well. It wasn't like they gave up return
- 31:17Speaker 2: touchdown anything like that. It was just Jake. I mean,
- 31:21Speaker 2: it wasn't even like that they were you know, they
- 31:24Speaker 2: gave up a pump block or a field goal block.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Jake was just shaking stuff tonight, and so I don't
- 31:30Speaker 2: want to so I'll go with a D plus for
- 31:33Speaker 2: the special teams.
- 31:34Speaker 1: All right? Cool? Vic Fangio, his defensive coaching and performance
- 31:39Speaker 1: this week, it's A. It's a straight up A for me.
- 31:41Speaker 1: We just went through everything straight up absolutely.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Yep.
- 31:45Speaker 1: All right, I guess we don't need to expand on
- 31:48Speaker 1: it more given the show.
- 31:50Speaker 2: If what if they would have kept him to seven
- 31:53Speaker 2: points or so, we would be in the A plus category,
- 31:56Speaker 2: or if they had a pick six or something. But
- 31:58Speaker 2: A is just five. Yes, let's just keep rolling out
- 32:01Speaker 2: the a's. Let's do it well.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I think this offense, the offensive coaching,
- 32:06Speaker 1: Nick sirian and Kellim Moore. It was another tail of
- 32:09Speaker 1: two halves like it was last week. My gosh, just
- 32:12Speaker 1: you know, there are some plays again. I love the
- 32:14Speaker 1: presnat motion. We saw a ton of it in this game,
- 32:17Speaker 1: as we haven't seen it too too much over the
- 32:19Speaker 1: past few weeks. But why Jalen Hurts not under center
- 32:23Speaker 1: in this game? Not one hundred percent certain. Maybe he's
- 32:26Speaker 1: being asked and when I say he, Nick Sirianni is
- 32:29Speaker 1: hopefully being asked by somebody in the press corps about that.
- 32:33Speaker 1: But another tail of two haves again. Thank god they
- 32:35Speaker 1: have Saquon Barkley because I'm not sure where this offense
- 32:38Speaker 1: would be sometimes without Barkley, I am going to give
- 32:41Speaker 1: the offensive coaching this week a B minus. What do
- 32:43Speaker 1: you give it?
- 32:44Speaker 2: I'm totally with you on the On the B minus,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I mean, I still don't know what the hell the
- 32:49Speaker 2: double the double uh, the reverse hitchback? Yeah to Lord
- 32:53Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts was and then and then what they covered
- 32:56Speaker 2: it up? They they double covered aj over the top.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I mean it was a one man route. Yeah, and
- 33:01Speaker 2: it wasn't very well executed.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Jeff crap the bed in terms of his blocking on
- 33:06Speaker 1: that too. I mean he was just in no man's land,
- 33:09Speaker 1: like what are we doing here?
- 33:12Speaker 2: It was it was an adventure, and I'm glad that
- 33:15Speaker 2: it didn't end up in an interception or a fumble
- 33:18Speaker 2: or it was that was rough. So but once again,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I I the thing that that that keeps waiting the
- 33:27Speaker 2: great up and I got to expand really quick on
- 33:30Speaker 2: it is that at a certain point in the game,
- 33:32Speaker 2: I just love it. It's like when we were talking
- 33:35Speaker 2: Jeff in twenty twenty two, where at a certain point
- 33:38Speaker 2: in the game, the team just says fit and it's
- 33:40Speaker 2: like our guys are bigger and stronger and meaner than
- 33:43Speaker 2: your guys in the offensive line. Yeah, and we're just
- 33:45Speaker 2: gonna We're just gonna bowl you guys over. And now
- 33:48Speaker 2: you add in instead of Miles Sanders, you got a
- 33:50Speaker 2: different twenty six. He got one of the best running
- 33:53Speaker 2: backs of this generation, a guy who is once he
- 33:57Speaker 2: got seven games left too, if he gets if he
- 34:00Speaker 2: averages one hundred yards, he could do two thousand this season, folks.
- 34:04Speaker 2: He's got over thirteen and fifty fifty. So this guy
- 34:09Speaker 2: is incredible. While sharing the rock with aj Brown, Smidty Goddard,
- 34:14Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts is still doing this. I mean it's he's
- 34:18Speaker 2: an incredible player. He is incredible like the Eagles, Yes, Joy.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Exactly, exactly, look an incredible player. This has been an
- 34:27Speaker 1: incredible twenty twenty four twenty twenty five season thus far. Again, folks,
- 34:33Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Washington Commanders by a score
- 34:37Speaker 1: of twenty six to eighteen. Down at the link, it's
- 34:41Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be an interesting NFC as well. Who
- 34:45Speaker 1: is going to be at the top of this conference.
- 34:48Speaker 1: We're certainly gonna be talking about this entire league, this
- 34:52Speaker 1: team a lot more in the weeks to come. Again,
- 34:56Speaker 1: Matt Rodgers from the honorable mentioned podcast Matt Buddy Deevin.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Oh dude, I'd love having you on. It's always great
