- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Of course, I'm your host, play and with me of
- 0:28Speaker 2: course every single week.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Katie, you know I'm doing pretty good. I'm not saying
- 0:35Speaker 3: why just yet. I'm doing pretty good.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I was literally about to say it. That's why I hesitated,
- 0:41Speaker 2: and then I was like, wait, I'm not gonna say it. Also,
- 0:45Speaker 2: there's a lot of things that we can't say this
- 0:49Speaker 2: episode because like the books that we are reviewing today
- 0:56Speaker 2: actually have a lot to do with the their book
- 1:00Speaker 2: that we're currently reading. And so I was thinking about it.
- 1:05Speaker 3: We tried to get these in but andor and or
- 1:09Speaker 3: releasing three episodes a week just through everything off.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but but yeah, Uh, Katie has finished Trials of
- 1:20Speaker 2: the Jedi. I will be finished by Friday, and then
- 1:26Speaker 2: I will have another read by the time we are recording.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So, so, guys, if Clay wants to take his headphones
- 1:38Speaker 3: off for this, I don't know. I'm not you can't
- 1:40Speaker 3: say anything you can at this moment. But if he
- 1:44Speaker 3: did want his vision of the book clouded at this point, Okay,
- 1:47Speaker 3: so he is going to take his headphones off, So guys,
- 1:51Speaker 3: I posted an Instagram story on this Basically I cried
- 1:55Speaker 3: so much, but I also loved it. I loved being
- 1:58Speaker 3: tortured like this. There's heartbreaking moments, but it was the
- 2:02Speaker 3: end of the Higher Republic as we know it, so
- 2:05Speaker 3: it just completely makes sense. That is all I'm going
- 2:08Speaker 3: to say for the moment, because I don't want to
- 2:12Speaker 3: get in trouble, but like, not that I would get
- 2:17Speaker 3: in trouble. I don't know. I but like, I just don't.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I don't want to say anything that I'll regret that
- 2:24Speaker 3: might lean spoiler ish.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so our email leaned very heavy into hey, no
- 2:34Speaker 2: spoiler talk until this date. And I have seen other
- 2:38Speaker 2: people posting non spoiler stuff and they're like, hey, we
- 2:43Speaker 2: can't say anything until the release date. So I'm really
- 2:47Speaker 2: glad everyone is being really cool about this and just
- 2:54Speaker 2: being like, hey, no spoilers now.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I have seen so Buddies review and I bookmarked it
- 3:02Speaker 3: because it was posted on the book the Star Wars Books.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Read it and somebody posted this, and we're like, why
- 3:09Speaker 3: would you talk about this. I hadn't read it, but
- 3:12Speaker 3: I went back and read it after I finished yesterday
- 3:15Speaker 3: and they revealed who died.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Wow, it's just like that's that's messed up.
- 3:24Speaker 3: The whole place. Like, yes, we think that's.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Not a spoiler. Guys, were exactly we we knew, and
- 3:30Speaker 2: we we knew. Let's just say, you know, in our predictions, Hey,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Charles Soul said that, like some shit's gonna happen, so
- 3:41Speaker 2: we assume people are gonna die, So that's not a spoiler.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, So if you were looking for reviews on how
- 3:52Speaker 3: this goes, be careful what you wish for. This book, guys,
- 3:59Speaker 3: is out seventeenth, so just under two weeks now, and yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 3: it's a ride. I hope you're prepared for it.
- 4:11Speaker 2: All right, So before we accidentally say anything else, let's
- 4:16Speaker 2: moving on and jump into it. I was looking at
- 4:23Speaker 2: some of our news talk since the last time that
- 4:32Speaker 2: we were, of course live. I think there's.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Really not news that we would typically talk about. Like
- 4:42Speaker 3: the only thing potentially is that Dark Horse is releasing
- 4:48Speaker 3: the sequel trilogy graphic novel collection. Guys, if you got
- 4:54Speaker 3: stuff from IBW, this is not new material. This is
- 4:57Speaker 3: what IBW published as their graphic novel for the sequel trilogy.
- 5:02Speaker 3: It's just collected into one giant omnibus basically, but this
- 5:08Speaker 3: guy's is a Star Wars NewsNet exclusive, and it looks
- 5:12Speaker 3: like this will be dropping November twelfth.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and I will say this, the art for the
- 5:25Speaker 2: cover for this collection looks amazing. I really like the
- 5:31Speaker 2: cover art for it personally, so this might be something
- 5:36Speaker 2: that I pick up literally just to display on my bookshelf.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I actually have not read the actual I don't really
- 5:46Speaker 2: pick up the comic book adaptations, so that's just me personally.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I have been picking up the Marvel stuff, a lot
- 5:57Speaker 3: of the IDW stuff kind of regret picking up it's
- 6:05Speaker 3: they're all different sizes, And as somebody who like would
- 6:09Speaker 3: like to read everything one day, that's a lofty goal,
- 6:14Speaker 3: but that is a goal that I have. But as
- 6:16Speaker 3: somebody who has collected most of the comic book things
- 6:19Speaker 3: purely for hey, let's complete my collection kind of thing,
- 6:24Speaker 3: they don't look too hot on a bookshelf to say
- 6:28Speaker 3: the least. And maybe dark Horse is going to change that.
- 6:31Speaker 3: But also I bought the IGW stuff already, so like, yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 3: that's my opinion on the IDW stuff. If I hadn't
- 6:42Speaker 3: bought those, I would probably pick this up because it's
- 6:46Speaker 3: a collection. So but it is also it's related to
- 6:51Speaker 3: the to the prequel trilogy, the one they did last year,
- 6:55Speaker 3: So I would imagine we're going to get an original
- 6:57Speaker 3: trilogy collection as well.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very true.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And I'm double checking on Star Wars NewsNet guys, but
- 7:06Speaker 3: there's really nothing.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So yep, very very slow, non existent news week for
- 7:17Speaker 2: sure in Star Wars. So let's jump into Remonition and
- 7:24Speaker 2: Volume four due to the timeline and technically released, we
- 7:29Speaker 2: are going to talk about them in that order. We're
- 7:32Speaker 2: going to talk about Premonition because it released first and
- 7:35Speaker 2: it is technically first in the timeline, and then we
- 7:39Speaker 2: will talk about Volume four and Katie. First things first,
- 7:43Speaker 2: about this book, Remonition. You read it way in advance
- 7:48Speaker 2: before me, because I literally I literally read this this
- 7:53Speaker 2: morning at six am. You had told me that this
- 7:58Speaker 2: is your favorite.
- 8:00Speaker 3: It's one hundred percent my favorite, y'all. This story is
- 8:05Speaker 3: by Daniel jose Older and the art is by Hating,
- 8:10Speaker 3: which is different from uh, the other Edge of Balance
- 8:15Speaker 3: books because like Edge Balance Volume four, the stories by
- 8:19Speaker 3: Shima Shinya and Daniel jose Older, and then the art
- 8:22Speaker 3: is by Mizuki Saka Kipara. Yes, and I'm butchering these guys.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And I will also say Reminition is literally top tier
- 8:40Speaker 2: Star Wars for it being a book about the real
- 8:49Speaker 2: enemy of Star Wars, that being Yoda. This book was amazing,
- 8:59Speaker 2: Like it the tone, the writing style, like it all
- 9:07Speaker 2: felt like this could have been an actual novel release. Yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 2: that's how intense this was.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Daniel jose Older is an art test, and it makes
- 9:21Speaker 3: me wonder, not that I'm all like I want new
- 9:26Speaker 3: people to come to Star Wars, but I wonder potentially
- 9:29Speaker 3: if the collaboration for the edge of Balanced Numerology ones
- 9:35Speaker 3: with Shima potentially held some of the story back, because
- 9:40Speaker 3: that's been our biggest critique of one, two and three
- 9:44Speaker 3: was hey, like this isn't like the best storytelling, but
- 9:51Speaker 3: this is like killer, this.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Was top tier. I've really really dug this, guys. This
- 9:58Speaker 2: literally takes place immediately after volume three, and funny enough,
- 10:08Speaker 2: Volume four happens at the same time as Premonition. Because
- 10:16Speaker 2: how you see the certain characters that are in both
- 10:20Speaker 2: of them, you can kind of piece together the fact
- 10:22Speaker 2: that volume four actually happens at the same time as
- 10:25Speaker 2: volume as Premonition.
- 10:29Speaker 3: But there's a segue in Premonition where Yoda sends the
- 10:33Speaker 3: younglings off, and that's where volume four picks up.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yep, but yeah, Yoda is Yoda and the younglings the
- 10:46Speaker 2: younglings being uh oh, shoot, I know. He says their
- 10:51Speaker 2: name very quickly in the Uh it's Nima, and oh
- 11:05Speaker 2: she has an apostrophe name. What is it? Like it?
- 11:11Speaker 3: I'm googling.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Shoot. He calls them young wings way too many times.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Oh wait, is it on the artwork in the back
- 11:24Speaker 3: of the book.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It might actually be. So it's Nima and Vivi Nia.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Vivnia and Nima are the two young ones. They're being
- 11:39Speaker 2: chased by nameless at the beginning of the book. I
- 11:43Speaker 2: really like the visuals of the nameless effect in this book.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Compared to literally everything visual that we've seen, comics and everything,
- 11:58Speaker 2: I like it here most this has a little bit
- 12:03Speaker 2: more of a like horror esque thing. Uh So I
- 12:17Speaker 2: I really dig that like horror look, yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And I don't consider this spoilery, but so I'm gonna
- 12:25Speaker 3: go ahead and say this. It's older and Soul were
- 12:29Speaker 3: able to mirror what they got out of each other.
- 12:34Speaker 3: So the nameless effects in Trials of the Jedi sound
- 12:39Speaker 3: because it's reading sound very much like this. In premonition,
- 12:46Speaker 3: very drawn out, very fuzzy and stuff. It's it's really
- 12:52Speaker 3: a good connection.
- 12:54Speaker 4: All right, y'all, we're gonna hit our first ad break
- 12:56Speaker 4: and we will be right back in three two one.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I really dug it. But when the one cool thing
- 13:08Speaker 2: that I will say about Yoda, because I don't say
- 13:12Speaker 2: really cool things about Yoda very often, is the fact that,
- 13:18Speaker 2: like this story played upon the fact that like we
- 13:24Speaker 2: always see and hear like Jedi having visions and we
- 13:33Speaker 2: haven't really gotten them a whole lot. The only really
- 13:36Speaker 2: person in the High Republic that we've received it from
- 13:40Speaker 2: is Vernestra. This time we're actually getting it from Yoda.
- 13:49Speaker 5: And.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yoda's getting like these visuals of like this family and
- 13:59Speaker 2: he's not really sure what's going on. He's like, Okay,
- 14:01Speaker 2: there's a servant somewhere else, I need to go help them,
- 14:04Speaker 2: and he that's where he leaves the young lings to
- 14:09Speaker 2: take care of themselves, and then he gets on a
- 14:11Speaker 2: ship and flies off to what he thought was some
- 14:15Speaker 2: sort of abandoned satellite.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's actually like a Nihill hideout where Nive Drindo
- 14:27Speaker 3: is basically setting up different experiments basically, and he's got
- 14:32Speaker 3: this family that he I think one of the kids
- 14:37Speaker 3: is for sensitive, so he's trying to get them to
- 14:41Speaker 3: booll in. So I think this is like taking place
- 14:45Speaker 3: potentially at the same time as like tippest Breaker, but
- 14:50Speaker 3: there's a lot of connection there, and so Nive Drindo
- 14:53Speaker 3: basically ends up being the bad guy along with Marchian Row.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Marchion Row makes another appearance in this which kind of
- 15:00Speaker 3: connects it and precedent because well President has Marchian Roe.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Yes it does, so it kind of connects the two
- 15:14Speaker 3: is like being like siblings almost, and so Marchion Rowe
- 15:20Speaker 3: ends up being like a catalyst sort of thing here
- 15:27Speaker 3: and the Leveler. We get to see the Leveler because
- 15:29Speaker 3: remember the Leveler is the beast that was carried over
- 15:34Speaker 3: from Phase two of the Higher Republic, so he is
- 15:38Speaker 3: like the oldest of the nameless that Marchion Roe has.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And Yoda ends up communicating with the Leveler, and this
- 15:48Speaker 3: is the catalyst that we were waiting for for Trials
- 15:51Speaker 3: of the Jedi. Basically is like, Okay, what is Trials
- 15:54Speaker 3: of the Jedi going to actually be? This tells us
- 15:58Speaker 3: right here.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I really dig this for one I dig it because
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yoda at first when noticing he's getting these like flashes again,
- 16:16Speaker 2: which he thinks are like visions of like his past
- 16:22Speaker 2: or whatever, because of course the nameless is like missing
- 16:25Speaker 2: with his mind. And then while he actually has some
- 16:30Speaker 2: time to get away from the nameless and think about it,
- 16:32Speaker 2: he sees another one and he's like, wait a second,
- 16:36Speaker 2: I've never seen these people actually die. This isn't my past,
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's your past. Because I believe the one to actually
- 16:48Speaker 2: get him to realize this was the fact that he
- 16:53Speaker 2: saw and it actually broke my heart a little bit
- 16:56Speaker 2: because we haven't talked about him since literally the first
- 16:59Speaker 2: book of uh the freaking face. Oh shoot, what's his name?
- 17:13Speaker 3: Is it as?
- 17:15Speaker 2: No? Not as it is this one? No, no, no, I'm talking.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I'm talking Lily's padawan. Uh keV moo. Oh yes, he
- 17:30Speaker 2: sees keV Moo and he's like, and that makes him realize,
- 17:34Speaker 2: oh wait a second, like this.
- 17:39Speaker 3: All the people the leveler are killing basically.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so uh when this when he finally communicates with
- 17:49Speaker 2: him and he finally realizes, oh wait, it's been in
- 17:53Speaker 2: front of me this entire time. It's empathy. It's it's
- 17:57Speaker 2: the great power that Buriaga used in Temptation of the Force, right,
- 18:04Speaker 2: so he has that in mind, and that's when he's
- 18:08Speaker 2: trying to communicate with the Leveler. I love the giant
- 18:13Speaker 2: splash page of Yoda on Planet X realizing, oh, this
- 18:22Speaker 2: is all you want, Like you are in as much
- 18:25Speaker 2: pain as everybody that you hurt, Like I understand now,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I really dug this like this and and unfortunately, like
- 18:35Speaker 2: this is the kind of stuff that I actually wanted
- 18:38Speaker 2: tep Tep to do, m because there was so much
- 18:43Speaker 2: teasing of like tep Tep trying to get in the
- 18:47Speaker 2: head of a nameless Yeah, and they never did anything
- 18:51Speaker 2: with it. This was the kind of stuff that I
- 18:53Speaker 2: was hoping tep Tep was going to be able to do.
- 18:56Speaker 2: But I mean, at least at least we got it right.
- 18:59Speaker 2: We got some sort of realization of like, oh, this
- 19:05Speaker 2: is what needs to move the Jedi to go on
- 19:10Speaker 2: to doing this, Which is why in uh oh gosh,
- 19:21Speaker 2: I guess the timeline is a little wonky, because it's
- 19:24Speaker 2: really wonky because there's other what was the other? Uh
- 19:29Speaker 2: uh uh? Tiers of the Nameless and Valiant val both
- 19:36Speaker 2: mentioned the capturing of Nameless Yep as.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Well as into the lights.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Into the Light Yeah, uh, but Tippest Breaker also did so.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Starting Breaker.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah. So like all of that and and plus this,
- 20:01Speaker 2: like I wonder if this then happens before Tempest Breaker.
- 20:10Speaker 3: This is like the weird part where I wish the
- 20:14Speaker 3: authors or the story group would specify. I think it
- 20:18Speaker 3: would help a lot of things, because I also feel
- 20:21Speaker 3: like the vision that Yoda has. If this happened before
- 20:26Speaker 3: Tempest Breaker, then why did we spend so long with
- 20:33Speaker 3: not necessarily a valiantvout Because a valiant vowve doesn't connect
- 20:36Speaker 3: to anything like we've already discussed. Really yeah yeah, but
- 20:40Speaker 3: like Into the Light, could we not have maybe seen
- 20:43Speaker 3: that a bit differently? I'm wondering if, well, I can't
- 20:49Speaker 3: say that, I can't say that.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Do you think I'll say this because of Into the
- 20:57Speaker 2: Light plays a really big part with fit same thing
- 21:01Speaker 2: for Temptation of the Force. Do you think that it
- 21:06Speaker 2: is possible that the blight was one too many things
- 21:13Speaker 2: for this overall story of the High Republic. Now I
- 21:18Speaker 2: need you to answer this question without thinking of trials.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I know it's super hard because you've already literally finished
- 21:24Speaker 2: the book.
- 21:25Speaker 3: I would say yes, I would say they needed to
- 21:33Speaker 3: pick between the storm Wall and the Blight, And now
- 21:43Speaker 3: I don't know if that necessarily means because I think
- 21:46Speaker 3: both are relevant, is a greater purpose to everybody coming together?
- 21:52Speaker 3: We are all the Republic. Yeah, But I have to
- 21:57Speaker 3: wonder if maybe the store Wall, because the storm Wall
- 22:02Speaker 3: takes up so much time as they try to go
- 22:07Speaker 3: around it and stuff, so I have to wonder if
- 22:11Speaker 3: maybe it was just like maybe it was like a
- 22:16Speaker 3: like you couldn't actually go through it at all, and
- 22:19Speaker 3: it was like actually a shield like ships just bounced
- 22:22Speaker 3: off of it. Do you see what I'm saying, Like,
- 22:25Speaker 3: if maybe they didn't have to spend time trying to
- 22:29Speaker 3: go into the storm wall, if maybe they still could
- 22:35Speaker 3: have had both. Yeah, because we spend a lot of
- 22:39Speaker 3: time going, oh, I need a path engine, Oh I
- 22:43Speaker 3: like how many paths can we try to actually get
- 22:46Speaker 3: in the storm wall and hack the code? Like it
- 22:49Speaker 3: just feels like a lot of wasted time. Even though
- 22:52Speaker 3: I do enjoy those things about Star Wars, I think
- 22:57Speaker 3: they didn't they've been off one they could.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I feel like they may have focused on trying to
- 23:03Speaker 2: relate it back to like the beginnings of Phase one
- 23:06Speaker 2: with the whole disaster anyway type of thing. So I
- 23:12Speaker 2: get that, I really do so, uh Yoda, you know, overall,
- 23:21Speaker 2: after that interaction with the leveler, Yoda actually ends up
- 23:27Speaker 2: helping or saving the family that was there.
- 23:36Speaker 3: And Marcia Road gets so pissed off. They yeah, the
- 23:41Speaker 3: leveler will not respond to his command basically to take
- 23:44Speaker 3: out Yoda. What did you think about that?
- 23:49Speaker 2: I thought that was very interesting because again Yoda does
- 23:55Speaker 2: say in here like oh, like you don't want to
- 23:58Speaker 2: do any of this, like you're heard just like everybody else's.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I get that. So for that to happen, I was like, oh,
- 24:10Speaker 2: there's a chink in Marcion's armor, like there's something there
- 24:17Speaker 2: that they can attack at that point. So I really
- 24:21Speaker 2: dug that. I really do hope that we get to
- 24:33Speaker 2: see more of that, and I know it'll be like,
- 24:39Speaker 2: of course, like there's not there's not much left. It's
- 24:42Speaker 2: literally trials that the Jedi is the only thing.
- 24:45Speaker 3: And inclusion Zone and fear of the Jedi.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Yes, I yeah, that's that's right.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Well, I guess inclusion Zone has technically already come out,
- 24:56Speaker 3: but like we're riding on the trade.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know. I I just I really
- 25:05Speaker 2: did that because again we've had these moments of uh
- 25:14Speaker 2: like Marcion is like the ultimate villain, He's unbeatable, and
- 25:21Speaker 2: I don't really like.
- 25:22Speaker 3: That in.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Uh in villains, I think it's very uh what's the
- 25:36Speaker 2: word I'm looking for? Uh Like, it doesn't make things
- 25:43Speaker 2: fun when hero When when heroes win, you're like, yes,
- 25:48Speaker 2: but when villains are winning all the time, it's like
- 25:52Speaker 2: god damn, like you're you're already kicking us while we're down, Like, yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 2: why keep doing this?
- 25:58Speaker 3: That's why he didn't like thrown gap.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Yes, I can't say anything. I can't say anything in
- 26:19Speaker 5: regards to that.
- 26:21Speaker 3: So with that, I'm sorry, guys, this is a really
- 26:26Speaker 3: boring view and I should have known better. The finished trial.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Please don't chase the show. I'm sorry.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Let's move on to volume four.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Volume Volume Volume four, the story is by she mentioned
- 26:56Speaker 3: you and Daniel Hills the Older and the art is
- 26:59Speaker 3: by Zuki Sakakibara. And this is the final battle on
- 27:07Speaker 3: Banshee and I kind of dug this one, if not
- 27:13Speaker 3: simply because it is done, but also there's some nice
- 27:20Speaker 3: Phase two connections in this.
- 27:23Speaker 2: There was I dug that as well, because.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Bullan is in this one like there's bullin right there.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Mm hm. But again talking that we have been with
- 27:39Speaker 2: phase three, you have to read everything, even for these
- 27:48Speaker 2: everything which I don't as i'd like, I really don't
- 27:52Speaker 2: agree with, like manga is super niche the facts that
- 27:59Speaker 2: you have to go to the uh the IDW Star
- 28:09Speaker 2: Wars High Republic Adventures Horse sorry yes dark Horse uh
- 28:17Speaker 2: uh Star Wars Adventures story to understand where at least
- 28:24Speaker 2: two of these characters like just showed up out of
- 28:27Speaker 2: nowhere with like that's a little annoying.
- 28:31Speaker 3: It's super frustrating, And I don't necessarily mind crossovers, but
- 28:37Speaker 3: I feel like sav just makes so many appearances across
- 28:42Speaker 3: other places that you're like, okay, well where else where
- 28:47Speaker 3: else are we going kind of thing like, and it
- 28:51Speaker 3: feels just like there's too much going on other places
- 28:55Speaker 3: for it to fully make sense why Decks and SA
- 29:00Speaker 3: and everybody else are here with what's going on in
- 29:05Speaker 3: the Higher Public Adventures. Because if this wasn't Higher Republic
- 29:10Speaker 3: I probably would have never picked this up. Now, I
- 29:12Speaker 3: am planning on picking up the sequel trilogy one, if
- 29:16Speaker 3: only because it doesn't connect to anything else. I think
- 29:19Speaker 3: I want to give manga a second chance in Star
- 29:22Speaker 3: Wars where I don't need to depend on any other
- 29:25Speaker 3: source material.
- 29:27Speaker 4: We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
- 29:31Speaker 4: be right back.
- 29:33Speaker 2: And of course there's you get the chance of looking
- 29:36Speaker 2: at a different creative team as well, So yeah, there's that.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But yeah, this one thing, I was a little confused
- 29:47Speaker 2: by these characters here we just said their names, Nima
- 29:53Speaker 2: and Vivniah. In the beginning of this book, they talk
- 30:00Speaker 2: about how, oh we can help, we can fight, we
- 30:04Speaker 2: can do all this. They very they very like there's
- 30:08Speaker 2: a small moment in even premonition where they're like, oh,
- 30:11Speaker 2: we can do it, we can help. I was like, Okay,
- 30:16Speaker 2: this is why they're on the cover of the book.
- 30:18Speaker 2: This is gonna be their mission. Guys. Guess what, they
- 30:21Speaker 2: don't have shit to do for the entire freaking book.
- 30:26Speaker 2: So it's like, why why do this when you have
- 30:32Speaker 2: nothing for these characters. I was really disappointed by that.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Because, like, you look at the first one, and obviously
- 30:44Speaker 3: Lily is the star of this series, so putting her
- 30:48Speaker 3: on the first one completely makes sense. The padawan Kieran,
- 30:56Speaker 3: like he is here, he has a little more stuff
- 31:01Speaker 3: to do, simply because he's a padawan versus a young one.
- 31:05Speaker 3: But then we all know how this one goes. He
- 31:07Speaker 3: dies at the end of it, and then you have
- 31:10Speaker 3: Arcoff and Arkoff does make more of an appearance in this,
- 31:14Speaker 3: but he still plays a relatively side character to Lily,
- 31:20Speaker 3: and thankfully it's not titled Edge of Balanced Arkoff, like
- 31:25Speaker 3: that would piss me off even more. But I do
- 31:28Speaker 3: think if you're gonna put a character on the cover,
- 31:31Speaker 3: they need to.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, in the story, and.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Especially it's like negligible for every other cover that we've
- 31:44Speaker 3: gotten in here, but it's really bad for four.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like because not only are they on the cover,
- 31:52Speaker 2: you literally start the book with them with this whole
- 31:58Speaker 2: thing about oh, us help, and then they're like, oh,
- 32:04Speaker 2: you can help by staying right here, and then you
- 32:07Speaker 2: literally don't see them again until the very end with Aslin,
- 32:14Speaker 2: and I will say this, like, the the best thing
- 32:17Speaker 2: that they had in this book was the fact that
- 32:23Speaker 2: the two young lings literally treated Aslan as like a
- 32:29Speaker 2: normal person rather than like somebody who strayed away from
- 32:34Speaker 2: the light. That was nice. I really dug that because
- 32:39Speaker 2: then there was like this sweet moment where Aslin, even
- 32:42Speaker 2: at the very end was like, no, you won't put
- 32:45Speaker 2: a hand on these young lings and all of that,
- 32:51Speaker 2: but that was like the most they did, literally, and
- 32:54Speaker 2: I it just kind of made me a little sad.
- 32:59Speaker 2: But there was nice moments.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Yeah, there's good fights.
- 33:05Speaker 2: A bunch of things like uh, Lily's dialogue really felt
- 33:13Speaker 2: like Saturday Morning cartoonish, Like, Oh, I've been so scared
- 33:20Speaker 2: and I don't know how to deal with this. But
- 33:23Speaker 2: through this entire time, we've learned to, you know, embrace
- 33:28Speaker 2: that fear and work together. And I'm just like saying
- 33:32Speaker 2: a damn thing. For literally four volumes, I don't need
- 33:36Speaker 2: the same message in every book.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it it's just super tough, especially because I feel
- 33:47Speaker 3: like it's one thing when it's the all ages comic,
- 33:51Speaker 3: but manga, I feel like, is like that young adults
- 33:56Speaker 3: area of comics. Yeah, maybe it's like the Marvel comics
- 34:02Speaker 3: or whatever, but like I feel like manga should be
- 34:06Speaker 3: able to handle itself a little bit more than like
- 34:11Speaker 3: than what this does, because this feels like the same
- 34:13Speaker 3: lesson over and over again. Like you said, it's just
- 34:16Speaker 3: like not feeling it again. I am excited for the
- 34:21Speaker 3: sequel trilogy one just to kind of see how it
- 34:24Speaker 3: does with a different creative team, like you said, like
- 34:26Speaker 3: we've said, and how it feels without other Yeah, and
- 34:36Speaker 3: I don't necessarily like connections aren't bad, y'all. But when
- 34:40Speaker 3: you're publishing so many things at once and your timeline
- 34:45Speaker 3: is not clear, things get convoluted and that doesn't help
- 34:51Speaker 3: edge of balance volume for any.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Here's something that I don't think a lot of people
- 34:56Speaker 2: will know, and it may be a surprise to you know,
- 35:03Speaker 2: someone who is strictly a Star Wars fan who will
- 35:06Speaker 2: go out and buy every single piece of media to
- 35:10Speaker 2: follow the story. There is literally somebody out there who
- 35:15Speaker 2: just reads manga, likes Star Wars and notices, hey, there's
- 35:22Speaker 2: these manga that have like all this this is all
- 35:26Speaker 2: one title. I want to sit here and read it.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 35:32Speaker 2: You were going to get somewhat of a story, because yes,
- 35:37Speaker 2: we do follow the exact same characters, but there is
- 35:42Speaker 2: such a time jump between every single volume you are
- 35:46Speaker 2: not gonna know what the hell is going on.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Mm hmm. And especially yeah, I am gonna say this
- 35:54Speaker 3: because this is on Wikipedia, guys, but Lily does make
- 35:58Speaker 3: an appearance in Trials of the Jedi. It's not a
- 36:00Speaker 3: big one. But from where she is in the end
- 36:05Speaker 3: of volume four, I don't understand why she left other
- 36:09Speaker 3: than the Jedi Temple calling her back to course on, Like,
- 36:14Speaker 3: there's a lot there that it's like, it feels disjointed.
- 36:19Speaker 2: So I feel like they meant for Lily to be
- 36:25Speaker 2: a very a much bigger character for them, and unfortunately
- 36:31Speaker 2: these four to five volumes, because we did have precedent
- 36:37Speaker 2: also that, uh, we just didn't have enough time with her.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I feel like, if you wanted Lily to be a
- 36:48Speaker 2: standout character, because again, we are wanting to have more
- 36:53Speaker 2: inclusion in this High Republic initiative, and I know you're like, oh,
- 37:00Speaker 2: she's supposed to be the Asian character of this universe,
- 37:06Speaker 2: so of course she needs to be in the traditional manga.
- 37:12Speaker 2: That's not how that works, guys, Yep. If you want
- 37:16Speaker 2: her to be more inclusive, you need to literally have
- 37:23Speaker 2: her be more included in other face.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and I feel like that's potentially what they tried
- 37:29Speaker 3: to do with Trials, and it just when your main
- 37:35Speaker 3: is in this manga, it still needs to feel connected
- 37:38Speaker 3: to the inclusions that you're trying to make in other spots.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, but uh, I think that's it for me.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I know this is short, guys. I'm sorry. I
- 37:51Speaker 3: was really trying to avoid spoilers, especially with Premonition.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Guys. I promise you Trials of the Jedi will be
- 38:02Speaker 2: the most spoiler book that we review on this podcast,
- 38:11Speaker 2: so that way Katie can let everything out. Okay, I promise, guys,
- 38:21Speaker 2: I promise. But with that you guys can always find
- 38:27Speaker 2: me over at Fanboy, play on Blue Sky, on Instagram,
- 38:34Speaker 2: on thread, and on TikTok. Of course, if you want
- 38:38Speaker 2: to follow me in my everyday work life with comics,
- 38:43Speaker 2: follow me at Blue Sky. If you would like to
- 38:46Speaker 2: follow me as a dad and as somebody who has
- 38:51Speaker 2: been keeping their nose in a book for the last
- 38:54Speaker 2: five six months, follow me on Instagram and to talk.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I am currently reading a book called Unsold, which is like, apparently, uh, the.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Can Adrian tell you to read that one.
- 39:15Speaker 2: No. Uh. My best friend from back home told me, hey,
- 39:21Speaker 2: here's my log into audible literally read this entire series,
- 39:26Speaker 2: and I was like, okay, so I'm literally reading Unsold
- 39:31Speaker 2: right now. I am reading uh Star Wars Bloodlines right now.
- 39:37Speaker 3: We're gonna have to talk about Bloodlines. You're going to
- 39:40Speaker 3: read blood Lines.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I am reading, of course, trials are the Jedi. I
- 39:47Speaker 2: am literally going to start this weekend a book called
- 39:54Speaker 2: The Book of Doors, And because I literally I just
- 40:00Speaker 2: got it from Libby, I am gonna read The Blade
- 40:06Speaker 2: Itself by Joe Joe Apercombi. So I have a lot
- 40:12Speaker 2: of books to read in the month of June, and
- 40:15Speaker 2: hopefully I can get through all of them. Uh So, yeah,
- 40:19Speaker 2: there's a lot of stuff for me to keep my
- 40:22Speaker 2: nose in.
- 40:24Speaker 6: I don't know why you're keeping stuff straight, because I
- 40:26Speaker 6: know I do this sometimes, but at least I have
- 40:29Speaker 6: like different areas because you're reading two Star Wars books,
- 40:34Speaker 6: Like I'll read a romance, a fantasy, a Star Wars.
- 40:38Speaker 2: The really nice thing is the fact that I'm reading
- 40:41Speaker 2: two Star Wars novels in two completely different areas of
- 40:44Speaker 2: the timeline. If I was reading two different Star Wars
- 40:48Speaker 2: books with the exact same characters, uh huh, I purposely
- 40:52Speaker 2: chose Okay, I'm gonna read something with completely different characters.
- 41:00Speaker 2: So yeah, that's how I'm keeping everything straight. But it's
- 41:05Speaker 2: gonna be fun. Uh. I got finished last month with
- 41:10Speaker 2: six books, so my goal is six books again this month.
- 41:15Speaker 2: If not seven, you know, I'm just constantly trying to,
- 41:18Speaker 2: you know, break my own record. But yeah, also Ranger
- 41:24Speaker 2: Alliance of course a part of the GUA as well.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Some big things happen in the last episode of Goes
- 41:32Speaker 2: to Yugur number one, Jake and I talk all about it,
- 41:35Speaker 2: So go check out that episode, Katie. What about you, y'all?
- 41:40Speaker 3: You can find me on most social media platforms and
