Transcript
- 0:12Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Richard Keel, Jaws from the James Bond movies,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:34Speaker 2: It's showtime.
- 0:35Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:38Speaker 3: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:43Speaker 3: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:32Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I'm Marlena.
- 1:35Speaker 6: And we are coming to you live via digital recording
- 1:37Speaker 6: from the River City Festival of Films. And we will
- 1:40Speaker 6: now go ahead and bring in our co-host or... Host
- 1:44Speaker 6: for this festival, however, you guys can introduce yourselves and
- 1:47Speaker 6: tell people about the festival itself.
- 1:49Speaker 7: I'm Wesley Johnson. I'm the vendor coordinator, and I tell
- 1:52Speaker 7: people where to sit. That he does, and he tells
- 1:56Speaker 7: them well.
- 1:57Speaker 8: I'm PJ Starks, and I am the creator slash event
- 2:00Speaker 8: facilitator of the festival.
- 2:02Speaker 5: All right. So I guess what initially brought this together?
- 2:07Speaker 8: Well, this is year three, and originally we were just–
- 2:11Speaker 8: I guess the process, the genesis, if you will, was
- 2:15Speaker 8: so many other local areas have film festivals much smaller
- 2:18Speaker 8: than this. And I thought that was fantastic that some
- 2:20Speaker 8: of these areas had that. But I was like, why
- 2:23Speaker 8: doesn't Owensboro have a festival? So then I kind of
- 2:26Speaker 8: took it upon myself. I've been doing independent film work
- 2:28Speaker 8: for a little over six years now. And I said, hey,
- 2:31Speaker 8: I'm just going to put a festival together and we'll
- 2:33Speaker 8: see what happens. And year one happened at the mall.
- 2:36Speaker 8: And it was probably the size of the space that's
- 2:39Speaker 8: just our hallway here. So it's pretty incredible that we've
- 2:42Speaker 8: gone from that to now over 40,000 square feet and
- 2:45Speaker 8: 36 vendors and year two fell completely on its face.
- 2:48Speaker 8: So when we went into this year, I said, we've
- 2:50Speaker 8: got to have, you know, some celebrity guests and, you know, really,
- 2:55Speaker 8: really take it to the next level in order to,
- 2:57Speaker 8: you know, well, put butts in seats.
- 2:59Speaker 6: So that's what it comes down to really.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Here we are. Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 8: And we've had well over, I'd say at this point,
- 3:04Speaker 8: well over a thousand people and now Peter's here and,
- 3:07Speaker 8: Sir Moe is here, and Dave Shuffet from KET just arrived,
- 3:11Speaker 8: so it's pretty incredible so far. That's Peter Weller, to
- 3:13Speaker 8: be more specific.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Your friend Peter, you know.
- 3:16Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. Peter Weller, a.k.a. RoboCop, Sons of Anarchy.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Me and Peter go way back. I just call him Peter.
- 3:24Speaker 8: I just met him, so we'll pretend I said Mr.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Weller.
- 3:29Speaker 7: Mr.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Weller.
- 3:31Speaker 2: My name is Cop, RoboCop.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Well, I guess usually we'll do our little intro in
- 3:38Speaker 6: the beginning with our geek activities, and we just kind
- 3:41Speaker 6: of talk about stuff we've seen or stuff like that.
- 3:43Speaker 6: Have you guys seen any films lately other than the
- 3:46Speaker 6: ones here? Or you can plug the ones here.
- 3:48Speaker 9: I actually saw the Robocop remake, and it was surprisingly good.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Really?
- 3:52Speaker 9: Yeah, reimagining whatever. It was much more cerebral. I guess
- 3:56Speaker 9: it had to be since it was PG-13, but I
- 3:59Speaker 9: enjoyed it.
- 3:59Speaker 8: It was well acted. The effects are good. Samuel L.
- 4:01Speaker 7: Jackson was hilarious. He was like an uber conservative Fox
- 4:03Speaker 7: News type reporter. He was pretty funny. But yeah, I
- 4:07Speaker 7: liked it.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 4:09Speaker 8: What about you, PJ? I have a far less interesting answer.
- 4:13Speaker 8: I've been so busy with this, and I also had
- 4:15Speaker 8: to do a film series at the library that went
- 4:17Speaker 8: for six weeks, so I was working on that. So
- 4:20Speaker 8: I really haven't watched too many films lately, except for
- 4:24Speaker 8: the films... of course, that were here at the festival.
- 4:27Speaker 8: And they're all fantastic, and you should come check them out.
- 4:30Speaker 8: Because I'm supposed to say that, right?
- 4:32Speaker 6: Well, that's what I fall into all the time. It's like,
- 4:36Speaker 6: you run a movie show, you think I'd know, but
- 4:38Speaker 6: I spend so much time planning this and editing this
- 4:41Speaker 6: that I'll make it through a movie a week, maybe
- 4:44Speaker 6: two if I'm lucky.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So I try to think of the last thing I've seen.
- 4:48Speaker 6: I saw the Spectacular Now.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Have you seen that?
- 4:54Speaker 9: I've heard the name. I don't think I'm fully aware
- 4:56Speaker 9: of it.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I really liked it.
- 4:58Speaker 6: It's a higher-end indie film, but it's kind of one
- 5:03Speaker 6: of those high school kid kind of stories, but it
- 5:06Speaker 6: takes a different approach. It's not the super cool high
- 5:09Speaker 6: school kids. It's not the dorky kids. It's like those
- 5:12Speaker 6: kids in the middle, and it's like the kid that's.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Kind of popular but not going anywhere kind of thing,
- 5:17Speaker 5: and then the girl that nobody really pays attention to.
- 5:20Speaker 6: But is kind of awesome, and it kind of takes
- 5:22Speaker 6: a look at that, and And they're not, like, our
- 5:25Speaker 6: main character is far from a perfect character.
- 5:27Speaker 5: But he's not villainized either.
- 5:30Speaker 6: It's a very honest kind of thing where it's, like,
- 5:32Speaker 6: kids kind of making mistakes and being stupid and, like,
- 5:36Speaker 6: still trying to, like, figure out where they're going in life.
- 5:39Speaker 6: Sometimes those go wrong and I don't like them at all,
- 5:41Speaker 6: but this one was just really well made.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Who's in it? I think that's the thing.
- 5:46Speaker 6: I don't know either of the leads from anything else,
- 5:49Speaker 6: but they're both really good.
- 5:51Speaker 5: I think that girl's starting to.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Get more work now, the female lead in it. But, yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 6: most of the cast is just kind of up-and-coming actors.
- 6:00Speaker 5: What was yours?
- 6:01Speaker 2: I watched the movie Munchie.
- 6:04Speaker 5: This shouldn't surprise fans of Marlena.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I have fans? I don't have fans.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Oh, I'm pretty sure I've heard from them. Write in
- 6:12Speaker 5: if you love Marlena. You have your own segment. Nobody
- 6:17Speaker 5: else has a moment.
- 6:18Speaker 10: Dom DeLuise was the voice of Munchie. He looked like
- 6:21Speaker 10: a garbage pill kid kind of puppet. It was the
- 6:23Speaker 10: best thing I've ever seen in my whole life.
- 6:26Speaker 8: It was kind of a 90s answer to Gremlins.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it really was.
- 6:30Speaker 5: There were a lot of those.
- 6:32Speaker 10: I think Jennifer Love Hewitt was in it, but I
- 6:34Speaker 10: haven't confirmed that because I've been too lazy to get
- 6:36Speaker 10: on Internet Movie Database to confirm.
- 6:38Speaker 5: It is a lot of trouble. Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 8: It didn't involve marijuana at all.
- 6:41Speaker 7: No.
- 6:42Speaker 3: No.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No, I was just really tired.
- 6:44Speaker 8: No, no, no.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Oh, the movie.
- 6:46Speaker 5: I'm sure the making of it. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, I'm sure the movie involved lots. I'm sure
- 6:53Speaker 10: the movie did, for sure. There's no way that that
- 6:56Speaker 10: movie could have been made without lots and lots of
- 6:58Speaker 10: heavy drug use.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so I watched that. That was amazing. Highly recommend it.
- 7:04Speaker 10: I mean, he makes a pizza fly, and then this
- 7:08Speaker 10: stereotypical Italian guy chases him down the street with a cleaver.
- 7:12Speaker 10: Everything you could ever want in a movie, basically. I've
- 7:15Speaker 10: also been attending this French film series. So some of
- 7:22Speaker 10: those movies have been really awesome. The last one I
- 7:24Speaker 10: watched was called The Minister. I thought that was incredibly
- 7:27Speaker 10: boring and horrible. I don't usually have such a visceral
- 7:32Speaker 10: reaction to movies. It was just really boring. And I
- 7:35Speaker 10: was tired and I was grumpy and I was hungry.
- 7:37Speaker 10: That might be what it is. But the first one
- 7:38Speaker 10: I watched was a French movie called Police.
- 7:41Speaker 11: Which.
- 7:42Speaker 10: I actually hated that movie. Like, I hate that movie
- 7:46Speaker 10: so much. It's just, like, a lot of really touchy subjects.
- 7:50Speaker 10: And I don't think they handled it very well. It's
- 7:52Speaker 10: supposed to be, like, a positive movie that shows, like,
- 7:55Speaker 10: the child protection unit of, like, Paris at a positive light.
- 7:59Speaker 1: No.
- 8:01Speaker 11: No.
- 8:02Speaker 10: Nope. They laugh about things that just aren't funny. And,
- 8:04Speaker 10: I mean, I'm kind of, like, the queen of laughing
- 8:07Speaker 10: about things that aren't funny.
- 8:09Speaker 2: But this movie took it too far.
- 8:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 10: And it was just, it made me real angry. And
- 8:14Speaker 10: that's all, yeah, that's pretty much what happened.
- 8:17Speaker 6: The full spectrum of your interests.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Munchie and French families.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Highbrow, lowbrow.
- 8:23Speaker 7: I'm a, as far as TV goes, I'm trying to
- 8:25Speaker 7: catch up on Sherlock. I missed all that season. And
- 8:28Speaker 7: also Justified. I have a soft spot in my heart
- 8:30Speaker 7: for anything involving Kentucky crime. Like, we had at the library,
- 8:35Speaker 7: James Higdon. I don't know if you guys know him.
- 8:36Speaker 7: He lives up in Louisville. He wrote the Cornbread Mafia book.
- 8:40Speaker 7: And I think the second... Maybe second or third season
- 8:43Speaker 7: of Justified was loosely inspired by that. Ever since I
- 8:46Speaker 7: read that book, I've been on Kentucky True Crime. That's
- 8:50Speaker 7: my thing.
- 8:51Speaker 8: But yeah, Justified's great.
- 8:52Speaker 7: It's the only show, I believe, on the air that
- 8:54Speaker 7: has accurate Kentucky accents. And I'm sure you can tell
- 8:57Speaker 7: from my slight draw that I'm not from.
- 8:58Speaker 8: A big city in Kentucky.
- 9:00Speaker 7: I always appreciate people who go out of their way
- 9:02Speaker 7: to make accurate accents. The Closer, that Kyra Sedgwick show,
- 9:05Speaker 7: that kills me every time I hear it. I know
- 9:06Speaker 7: she's from Georgia, but no one talks like that.
- 9:10Speaker 6: Well, and that's impressive because they don't even shoot that
- 9:12Speaker 6: anywhere around here.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Like, it's all in L.A., I think, isn't it?
- 9:15Speaker 7: I think originally they were doing it in Pittsburgh, but
- 9:17Speaker 7: then they moved it out to L.A. And it's a fairly,
- 9:19Speaker 7: you know, accurate representation. I think sometimes it looks a little,
- 9:23Speaker 7: you know, off or whatever. But, you know, everybody on there,
- 9:25Speaker 7: I think, acts really well.
- 9:27Speaker 8: It's a great show.
- 9:27Speaker 7: It's a great modern-day Western. And the latest season is
- 9:30Speaker 7: pretty crazy. Not so much as the last season, but
- 9:33Speaker 7: it's definitely worth watching. I think they're ending it after
- 9:35Speaker 7: the next season.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 8: Kind of going out on a high note.
- 9:38Speaker 6: I think they've all kind of learned that. You get
- 9:40Speaker 6: a good couple of seasons and then.
- 9:41Speaker 8: Don't want to do the lost thing.
- 9:43Speaker 5: If you beat it to death, everybody just gets unhappy
- 9:45Speaker 5: about it.
- 9:45Speaker 8: Yeah, for sure. So what do you think?
- 9:49Speaker 9: I'm halfway through this thing.
- 9:53Speaker 8: I'm still absorbing. I'm still soaking it all in. Like
- 9:57Speaker 8: I said last year, it went from a 12-hour event...
- 10:01Speaker 8: where we had maybe 100 people show up and now
- 10:04Speaker 8: it's a seven-hour event and we've already had at least
- 10:08Speaker 8: i'd say at least 12 to 1500 people come through here.
- 10:10Speaker 7: So it did get to 100 second year at least
- 10:13Speaker 7: at least okay and that's including all the staff and
- 10:17Speaker 7: uh the filmmakers and the two or three filmmakers that
- 10:20Speaker 7: showed up and myself. That's a little trick with library statistics.
- 10:24Speaker 7: You always count the staff and the people who are presenting.
- 10:26Speaker 8: That's right. That's what we do with Unscripted. You guys
- 10:30Speaker 8: come to me and you're like, we had about 52 people,
- 10:33Speaker 8: and I'm like, no, I counted 64 with staff and everything.
- 10:36Speaker 8: The cardboard cutouts we had.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Behind the scenes on the business here.
- 10:41Speaker 8: Bella was here, Edward. You guys are big fans of
- 10:44Speaker 8: the Twilight series at the library.
- 10:45Speaker 11: Oh, yeah, I love it.
- 10:47Speaker 5: You didn't want to go into that on your geek activities.
- 10:50Speaker 8: Says the man who pulled Breaking Dawn out of the
- 10:52Speaker 8: DVD player.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Oh, shut up.
- 10:53Speaker 8: My wife. I was like, hey, guys. The last thing
- 10:57Speaker 8: I was watching. There you go. One of the last
- 10:59Speaker 8: things I watched, Olympus Has Fallen. I watched about 20
- 11:02Speaker 8: minutes of it, and then I had to go to bed.
- 11:04Speaker 9: That's a lot of Channing Tatum, right?
- 11:06Speaker 8: No, that's White House down. That's Olympus Has Fallen Part 2. Oh, right. Everyone,
- 11:12Speaker 8: the president is Morgan Freeman, right? He really is, isn't he?
- 11:15Speaker 8: Aren't we getting elected now? He becomes the president. No spoilers. Oh,
- 11:19Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 11:19Speaker 9: It's a complex plot.
- 11:20Speaker 8: He becomes the president, but I won't tell you how.
- 11:22Speaker 8: You'll have to watch and find out. He uses his
- 11:24Speaker 8: God powers. I will say, though, that Gerard Butler does
- 11:27Speaker 8: not take his shirt off at any point during that movie.
- 11:30Speaker 8: He normally does, but Law-Abiding Citizen, if you want to
- 11:34Speaker 8: see his glutes and his back and everything, that's what
- 11:37Speaker 8: you want to watch.
- 11:39Speaker 5: That is what's selling these movies.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Hey, you made a joke I laughed at.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Hey, thanks.
- 11:44Speaker 8: We appreciate your support. Well, you know, I try. But anyway,
- 11:48Speaker 8: going back to your original question, I'm feeling really good
- 11:51Speaker 8: about this. Anytime I go into an event, I hope
- 12:00Speaker 8: for the best, but I expect the absolute worst.
- 12:02Speaker 5: That's become my take on all of mine.
- 12:04Speaker 8: And I would say right now this is probably, like
- 12:07Speaker 8: after last year, there was nowhere left to go. We
- 12:10Speaker 8: were already at the bottom.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 8: So there's nowhere left to go but up. And I'd
- 12:13Speaker 8: say we definitely went up in droves. Definitely. So I'm
- 12:19Speaker 8: feeling really good about this whole thing. I'm really close
- 12:22Speaker 8: to your face right now, so I hope I don't
- 12:24Speaker 8: have bad breath.
- 12:24Speaker 5: That's okay.
- 12:25Speaker 8: I'm used to it. Oh, he is. But, yeah, so
- 12:32Speaker 8: I hope it continues. Now that I've talked about it,
- 12:35Speaker 8: everybody's just going to leave for some reason.
- 12:37Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 5: They're like, oh, never mind.
- 12:39Speaker 8: And Peter Weller's going to throw his hands up and
- 12:40Speaker 8: be like, why did I come all the way to Owensboro? Kentucky.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Are you trying to convince him to leave?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:47Speaker 8: He didn't know he was in Kentucky.
- 12:49Speaker 11: Yes.
- 12:50Speaker 8: He knows now. Unless it's Owensboro, New York. Is there
- 12:55Speaker 8: an Owensboro, New York? I don't know.
- 12:57Speaker 5: There might be.
- 12:58Speaker 8: We can make one. We should.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Yeah, we've got a good lineup of films. I don't
- 13:03Speaker 7: know if you guys are going to get a chance.
- 13:04Speaker 7: I know it's kind of hard when you're working in
- 13:06Speaker 7: a booth to actually get to see something.
- 13:07Speaker 8: It's usually what happens.
- 13:08Speaker 9: But, yeah, it's a lot of good, mostly produced in Kentucky, right?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 13:12Speaker 8: They're all local regional films. There's some from the Indiana area.
- 13:17Speaker 8: The area? Because it's just an area. It's not an
- 13:20Speaker 8: entire state, but an area. But Evansville, Indiana area. But, yeah,
- 13:25Speaker 8: we have filmmakers from all over. Some of the filmmakers
- 13:27Speaker 8: here don't actually have... have film screening, but they're here
- 13:31Speaker 8: to support and be a part of this epic event.
- 13:34Speaker 8: I can say that now because people actually showed up.
- 13:36Speaker 5: People showed.
- 13:36Speaker 8: I didn't want to say that before today, but now
- 13:38Speaker 8: I can say it.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Set yourself up to fail. Yeah, it is funny. I've
- 13:43Speaker 5: seen several.
- 13:44Speaker 6: People that I know from other film vesting conventions, so
- 13:47Speaker 6: it's at least.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Putting you in the running.
- 13:48Speaker 8: Yes, thank you.
- 13:49Speaker 5: You're moving into the whole little family of these things now.
- 13:54Speaker 7: And we've got some, uh, great artists here too. Brett
- 13:57Speaker 7: Gray from up in Lexington. He's, uh, does a lot
- 13:59Speaker 7: of like HR Geiger sort of stuff. Uh, there's a
- 14:01Speaker 7: lot of good black and white drawings. Uh, we've got
- 14:02Speaker 7: some authors, uh, and, uh, we got a guy over
- 14:05Speaker 7: there with the bukus of Buckaroo Banzai, uh, props and such.
- 14:10Speaker 7: We were wondering if Peter Weller was going to freak
- 14:11Speaker 7: out when he saw the aliens and start shooting at
- 14:13Speaker 7: them or something.
- 14:14Speaker 5: He still might.
- 14:14Speaker 8: I think he carries a laser. We will find out
- 14:17Speaker 8: soon enough.
- 14:18Speaker 5: I would hope he carries a laser.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 7: But yeah, there's just, it's kind of nice just to
- 14:21Speaker 7: get the whole, uh, nerd perspective with the vendors and, uh,
- 14:25Speaker 7: That was part of my job, and telling them where
- 14:29Speaker 7: to set.
- 14:31Speaker 8: I'm kind of proud of how this is all turning out, too.
- 14:33Speaker 7: But yeah, there's a surprising amount of movie production places
- 14:37Speaker 7: around these parts, and Madisonville of all places, too.
- 14:40Speaker 6: You find weird little pockets that kind of... And they
- 14:44Speaker 6: create their own little weird communities.
- 14:46Speaker 5: We've seen that with ours back home too.
- 14:48Speaker 8: The big biting pig people.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Didn't the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy, wasn't him their latest one?
- 14:52Speaker 8: Yes, Bill Johnson from Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Nice.
- 14:56Speaker 9: Yeah, so it's getting out.
- 14:59Speaker 8: See, I don't know. I'm not a horror guy.
- 15:01Speaker 7: Like gore and stuff, this is really not my bag.
- 15:04Speaker 9: House MD makes me squeamish.
- 15:06Speaker 8: How about House the Second Story? I haven't seen that one.
- 15:10Speaker 9: Is that like a sequel to the house TV show
- 15:12Speaker 9: or something?
- 15:13Speaker 8: No, it is.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Well, yes.
- 15:14Speaker 8: We'll just say it is for you. So I don't
- 15:15Speaker 8: have to go into too much explanation. I mean, I
- 15:18Speaker 8: have to turn my head. It was before Hugh Laurie's time. Right.
- 15:20Speaker 7: Mom just holds the poster board above the TV during
- 15:23Speaker 7: those parts for me now.
- 15:24Speaker 5: How about Hasu? Are you familiar with that?
- 15:27Speaker 8: I don't know that one.
- 15:28Speaker 5: That's the Japanese house. I recommend that one. Possibly the
- 15:32Speaker 5: greatest filmmaking.
- 15:34Speaker 8: Was that a remake?
- 15:35Speaker 5: No, no, no. It uses every.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Style of filmmaking ever in one movie.
- 15:42Speaker 5: It's amazing. It really is. That's my recommendation.
- 15:47Speaker 7: I do like the Asian horror where you don't have
- 15:49Speaker 7: to actually see people getting dismembered or something.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Well, we don't do those anymore. I'm sorry.
- 15:56Speaker 11: No.
- 15:57Speaker 8: I prefer seeing people getting dismembered. And you're not even
- 15:59Speaker 8: talking about movies.
- 16:00Speaker 7: No.
- 16:01Speaker 8: We all have to have hobbies. That's right. I'm a
- 16:05Speaker 8: gore hound myself, so I like story, too, on occasion.
- 16:09Speaker 5: If you mix the two together.
- 16:11Speaker 8: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm just a wuss.
- 16:15Speaker 8: You are a wimp. You're like, oh, The Grudge is
- 16:18Speaker 8: a good horror movie. It's so scary. I don't know.
- 16:23Speaker 8: That noise, you know. The noise is a little disturbing.
- 16:28Speaker 8: That guttural kind of.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I can't do it.
- 16:33Speaker 9: I usually get.
- 16:37Speaker 8: We don't want to have to clean up his urine
- 16:38Speaker 8: off the floor. Right, right. You already had to do that.
- 16:40Speaker 2: There's someone that comes around and does that.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Yeah, the guy with the vacuum cleaner.
- 16:43Speaker 8: I don't know if my insurance plan will cover that.
- 16:46Speaker 7: We were wondering about the guy with the vacuum cleaner earlier.
- 16:47Speaker 8: Is he just kind of pacing the floor? he's a
- 16:49Speaker 8: low rent ghostbuster i don't think that's what we thought
- 16:51Speaker 8: he came in the room i was like uh another
- 16:53Speaker 8: ghostbuster at a convention but no he has a vacuum
- 16:55Speaker 8: this is passing you know we weren't able to get
- 16:57Speaker 8: uh bill murray so we went.
- 16:59Speaker 6: With uh the low rent ghostbuster he would come here
- 17:01Speaker 6: but only as a ghost that's.
- 17:02Speaker 8: True you know busting makes it feel good no bill
- 17:06Speaker 8: murray oh so rest in peace yeah yeah i was
- 17:10Speaker 8: pretty bummed out about that but uh I should have
- 17:13Speaker 8: dedicated something to them at the film festival. Actually, there
- 17:15Speaker 8: is a local branch of the Ghostbusters here in the area,
- 17:19Speaker 8: like the Western Kentucky Ghostbusters.
- 17:20Speaker 5: It's spread like a disease, the Ghostbusters.
- 17:23Speaker 8: Yeah, but it was funny. I contacted them. They said, oh,
- 17:27Speaker 8: we would love to do that. And I said, okay, great.
- 17:30Speaker 8: Can I get some contact information? And then crickets came.
- 17:34Speaker 8: So they would love to not do it, I guess.
- 17:36Speaker 6: So were they not here? Because there was a car
- 17:38Speaker 6: outside that had the Ghostbuster.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Was there? There was one when we pulled in.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Because I assumed I would see Ghostbusters.
- 17:46Speaker 8: Was it Low Rent? The Low Rent Ghostbuster?
- 17:48Speaker 5: Kind of.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I think it was like a PT Cruiser.
- 17:51Speaker 5: I think it was.
- 17:52Speaker 8: It said Ectum 1 on the... It's a Ford Windstar.
- 17:56Speaker 11: Yes.
- 17:57Speaker 6: It's not the actual slime. It's like the juice box
- 18:01Speaker 6: version of the slime. It's like the Ecto Cooler. That's
- 18:04Speaker 6: all they could get. I miss those.
- 18:06Speaker 5: I think every geek does.
- 18:08Speaker 8: I don't think they knew what they had until it
- 18:10Speaker 8: was gone. And the Ghostbusters cereal, if anybody remembers that.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Definitely.
- 18:15Speaker 8: It was a limited run, I believe.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Almost as good as the C-3PO's. Because that was pretty epic, too.
- 18:22Speaker 9: I think I remember C-3PO's, but I didn't realize Ghostbusters
- 18:24Speaker 9: had a cereal.
- 18:25Speaker 8: I was probably too scared of it.
- 18:27Speaker 7: I seriously have a very vivid memory from my childhood.
- 18:32Speaker 7: We were in Owensboro. This is when I lived in Greenville.
- 18:35Speaker 7: My family, we were traveling back. The tire blew, and
- 18:39Speaker 7: somebody came to change the tire or whatever, but we went.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Maybe it was a more serious problem than a tire blowing.
- 18:45Speaker 9: I don't know. But the point of the story is
- 18:47Speaker 9: the fact we had to go to a relative's house.
- 18:48Speaker 8: They came and picked us up.
- 18:49Speaker 7: Ghostbusters was on the television, and I was hiding behind
- 18:51Speaker 7: my mom, peeking around. I think it was within the
- 18:55Speaker 7: past five years that I saw Ghostbusters for the first time.
- 18:57Speaker 8: Are you on anxiety medication or anything like that? I
- 19:00Speaker 8: have some, but I haven't been taking it. I mean,
- 19:01Speaker 8: I'm on a low dose of Prozac, but that's a
- 19:05Speaker 8: whole other story.
- 19:06Speaker 5: It makes you happy. It involves those dead bodies.
- 19:09Speaker 8: Well, you know, I like to see people get dismembered.
- 19:12Speaker 8: I'm a little better than I used to be.
- 19:14Speaker 6: The really weird part is you were really mostly scared
- 19:16Speaker 6: of Dan Aykroyd.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Which I can't blame you.
- 19:20Speaker 8: Canadian accent. Which film are we talking about? Is it
- 19:23Speaker 8: still Ghostbusters?
- 19:23Speaker 9: It's more or less the Crystal Skull podcast.
- 19:25Speaker 8: I thought maybe you were talking about Loser. Canadians. Well,
- 19:30Speaker 8: people are leaving. So apparently it's a jinx.
- 19:33Speaker 5: You've chased them off.
- 19:35Speaker 8: Oh, really? Maybe they're going to the screenings.
- 19:37Speaker 5: There you go.
- 19:38Speaker 6: You know what?
- 19:38Speaker 8: That's exactly what is happening with us. Thank you for
- 19:40Speaker 8: correcting me.
- 19:41Speaker 5: People are running to see the screenings. All right, well.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Unless we want to get back into something important like
- 19:46Speaker 6: Twilight Talk.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I mean, you know.
- 19:48Speaker 5: That's true.
- 19:49Speaker 6: I guess we can wrap up for this part, and
- 19:51Speaker 6: we'll wander back later and see what's going on.
- 19:53Speaker 8: I appreciate you having me on. Not so much Wes,
- 19:55Speaker 8: but definitely me.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Well, tell people where to find it if they want
- 19:59Speaker 6: to go look for it in the future.
- 20:01Speaker 8: If you're able to make it today, it's the Owensboro
- 20:03Speaker 8: Convention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky.
- 20:05Speaker 5: I think it's a little late. Right.
- 20:07Speaker 8: It's not live. Oh, it's not live? I didn't realize that. Well,
- 20:11Speaker 8: you're obviously not going to be.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Able to make it. For a future reference.
- 20:13Speaker 8: For a future reference, you can go to rivercityfestivaloffilms.com. And
- 20:19Speaker 8: we're definitely going to be doing it again next year
- 20:22Speaker 8: because it went so well this year. That's cool. So, yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 8: keep checking that out. We'll be updating regularly. Maybe not immediately,
- 20:30Speaker 8: but as... As it comes around. And, yeah, so definitely
- 20:35Speaker 8: check us out. And, you know, I'll be excited to
- 20:39Speaker 8: have an even bigger turnout next year than what we
- 20:42Speaker 8: had this year, which was still extremely impressive.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Build on it.
- 20:46Speaker 8: Just build on it.
- 20:48Speaker 7: I'll plug the library because we are doing a lot
- 20:50Speaker 7: of film stuff. If you're in the Owensboro area, PJ
- 20:52Speaker 7: is unscripted, as he's mentioned. And this summer we're going
- 20:55Speaker 7: to do kind of obscure cult film series thing. We're
- 20:57Speaker 7: still working out the details of that. You can check
- 20:59Speaker 7: out dcplibrary.org. And you can also follow me on Twitter
- 21:04Speaker 7: because I want to talk about myself.
- 21:06Speaker 8: Excuse me. Twitter.com slash WesTheHero. PJ, are you on Twitter?
- 21:10Speaker 8: I am not. But Wes also has scaredofghostbusters.edu if you
- 21:14Speaker 8: want to check that out. It's just a picture of
- 21:16Speaker 8: my wet bed sheets.
- 21:18Speaker 5: I don't think you're going to get any hits on that, really. Well, wait, no,
- 21:21Speaker 5: it is the Internet.
- 21:22Speaker 8: He's trying to sell them on eBay now, and somebody's
- 21:24Speaker 8: got a fetish.
- 21:25Speaker 5: Somebody will be hitting that now. Sorry about that.
- 21:28Speaker 8: Yeah, if you want to hit that, you know, just
- 21:29Speaker 8: call me. It's all downhill from here once you start
- 21:31Speaker 8: talking about wet bed sheets.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Well, I think you just pitched something else when you said,
- 21:35Speaker 6: if you want to hit that, you know, get a
- 21:37Speaker 6: hold of me.
- 21:37Speaker 9: I was hoping no one would notice except the ladies.
- 21:40Speaker 8: You're standing really close to me, so I was the
- 21:42Speaker 8: first one to notice. I was just picturing you in
- 21:44Speaker 8: a blonde wig.
- 21:44Speaker 11: Sorry.
- 21:47Speaker 5: You guys can make that off the mic.
- 21:49Speaker 11: That's okay.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Whatever plans you need to make.
- 21:51Speaker 10: Sitting at this table has me like eye to butt level.
- 21:54Speaker 10: I've looked at every single buddy's butt today. Just throwing
- 21:58Speaker 10: that out there.
- 21:58Speaker 5: Speaking of fetishes.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Looked at everybody's butt. That's what I've done all day.
- 22:01Speaker 10: I've just analyzed everyone's butt.
- 22:02Speaker 7: I want you to walk by and drop my keys
- 22:05Speaker 7: and bend over real slow to get them.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I should develop a rating system.
- 22:11Speaker 9: Just throw stuff out on the floor and let people
- 22:13Speaker 9: pick it up.
- 22:14Speaker 8: Oh, could you get that for me?
- 22:15Speaker 2: And I'll be like seven.
- 22:16Speaker 8: I have two holes in the back of my pants
- 22:18Speaker 8: today because I'm very professional. But it's concealing. Don't be
- 22:21Speaker 8: too scared. My Ghostbuster wallet.
- 22:24Speaker 9: Ghostbuster wallet.
- 22:25Speaker 2: He just peed a little bit.
- 22:27Speaker 8: A little bit. Just adds to what was already there.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Get that guy with the vacuum. Hopefully it's a shop vac.
- 22:33Speaker 8: Excuse me, low-ranked Ghostbusters?
- 22:35Speaker 9: Can you just put that down my pants?
- 22:39Speaker 5: Again, we moved into a different area, but there's a
- 22:41Speaker 5: market for that as well.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 8: Wait, is this an M-rated podcast?
- 22:48Speaker 5: We are extra R-rated.
- 22:51Speaker 8: Okay, cool.
- 22:52Speaker 5: We use all kinds of horrible language.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I think it says explicit on the site.
- 22:55Speaker 8: Oh, it always says explicit.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I was a listener.
- 22:57Speaker 7: I was instrumental in bringing you guys in, so I'm
- 23:00Speaker 7: definitely a fan of M-squared.
- 23:02Speaker 5: That's all I can call it.
- 23:05Speaker 6: If you can get a logo going for that and
- 23:07Speaker 6: get us some sponsors.
- 23:08Speaker 7: Hey, I'll fire up Microsoft Paint when I get back home.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 23:11Speaker 8: We'll see what we can do.
- 23:12Speaker 5: And then find us some sponsors, and we're all set.
- 23:14Speaker 8: Maybe Microsoft Paint is going to do this, but I
- 23:18Speaker 8: am going to have to go try to figure out
- 23:19Speaker 8: what's going on.
- 23:20Speaker 5: But I appreciate you having me on.
- 23:22Speaker 8: And I'm sure we're friends on Facebook now, so it's official.
- 23:28Speaker 5: That's really, it doesn't matter unless we're friends on Facebook.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:32Speaker 8: Unless you're friends on Facebook, friendships don't really matter. That's true.
- 23:35Speaker 6: And then sometimes they hold your friendship hostage. I love
- 23:38Speaker 6: everybody when they put out the post of, yeah, I'm
- 23:39Speaker 6: going to be deleting a lot of people, so if
- 23:41Speaker 6: you're seeing this, good for you.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Or get a hold of me if you think we're
- 23:45Speaker 6: actually friends and I'll keep you.
- 23:46Speaker 8: And I'm like, wow, this is what friendship has become?
- 23:50Speaker 8: You know, it's funny because you see the post from
- 23:51Speaker 8: those people. It's like you haven't seen them since high school.
- 23:55Speaker 8: You haven't spoken to them. They friend request you.
- 23:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 8: And then you talk just about as much now on
- 23:59Speaker 8: Facebook as you have in the last, you know, 10
- 24:02Speaker 8: years or whatever, depending on how old you are. And
- 24:07Speaker 8: then suddenly they're like, yeah, I'm going to probably get
- 24:09Speaker 8: rid of a lot of people I haven't talked to
- 24:10Speaker 8: in a while. And I'm like, why did you.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Friend request me? Yeah, why friend request? I didn't want
- 24:14Speaker 5: to talk to you anyway.
- 24:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 9: If you're seeing this post, your check cleared. So don't worry.
- 24:19Speaker 8: I'm like, before you defriend me, go like this page
- 24:22Speaker 8: I have.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Ah, the workings of Facebook right there.
- 24:26Speaker 9: John Maynard's beard's looking really nice.
- 24:28Speaker 8: I know.
- 24:29Speaker 7: He's manned up. Have you guys seen Nearly Dead? It
- 24:32Speaker 7: was shot in Louisville. It's a zombie movie set in
- 24:34Speaker 7: a rest home. It's pretty hilarious.
- 24:35Speaker 8: Has it screened yet today? I think it has. Let's
- 24:39Speaker 8: find out. 110, yes. What's the guy's name? Project Death
- 24:45Speaker 8: Pack just showed. After School Special is next.
- 24:48Speaker 7: Is it Sonny Burnett, the older guy from Louisville that's
- 24:50Speaker 7: in every movie that's shot in Louisville?
- 24:52Speaker 8: Probably. He was in Pilgrim's Song. He was the principal.
- 24:55Speaker 9: He's a principal character in that, so you get to
- 24:57Speaker 9: see a bunch of older folks battling zombies.
- 24:58Speaker 11: Is it?
- 24:59Speaker 7: If you get a chance to watch it, you should
- 25:00Speaker 7: definitely check it out.
- 25:01Speaker 8: He's probably selling copies of it.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 25:03Speaker 8: But, yeah. Good stuff.
- 25:06Speaker 1: All right.
- 25:07Speaker 5: I guess we will go wander around.
- 25:09Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Bother other people at the tables.
- 25:12Speaker 8: Yeah, you should check out some of the art.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Like, Brett's so cool.
- 25:27Speaker 3: You'll like our pizza pies made from a famous Italian recipe.
- 25:32Speaker 3: They're waiting for you right now at the concession stand.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Enjoy tempting food at its best. Gage Dobson is the
- 25:40Speaker 3: new kid in the neighborhood. His mom's in love with
- 25:44Speaker 3: a jerk.
- 25:45Speaker 6: I'm going to be your new father whether you like
- 25:47Speaker 6: it or not.
- 25:47Speaker 3: He's not doing so well at his new school.
- 25:50Speaker 10: Unless your grades improve enough, I may have to fail you.
- 25:53Speaker 3: And his overactive imagination is getting him nothing but trouble.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Suspension.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Life's not looking so great for Gage.
- 26:05Speaker 6: I wish I was dead.
- 26:06Speaker 3: To be or not to be?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Arriba! Until.
- 26:09Speaker 9: Who said that?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Me, I did, pal. I'm your new friend.
- 26:12Speaker 5: I help.
- 26:13Speaker 8: I dazzle.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I make better.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Roger Corman and New Horizons Home Video bring you the
- 26:19Speaker 3: family fantasy adventure, Munchies. The all-star sequel to the video blockbuster, Munchies. Now,
- 26:26Speaker 3: Munchies come to school to help Gage with a few
- 26:29Speaker 3: class projects. Like getting back at.
- 26:32Speaker 8: Their school bully.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Geronimo. Helping Gage improve his grades.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I think we can do better than that. Thank you,
- 26:45Speaker 1: bunny cakes. And making a fool out of the principal.
- 26:53Speaker 8: I'm hot.
- 26:55Speaker 3: One large pepperoni pizza coming up. But when Munchie tries
- 26:59Speaker 3: to get rid of Gage's evil stepfather, things start to
- 27:02Speaker 3: get a little out of hand.
- 27:05Speaker 11: I have something I'd like to say to you.
- 27:07Speaker 6: No!
- 27:09Speaker 3: This is a lesson in spontaneous combustion.
- 27:14Speaker 5: He's been out to sabotage this entire evening.
- 27:16Speaker 11: That's ridiculous.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You should never ask for anything unless you really want it.
- 27:21Speaker 7: No!
- 27:26Speaker 3: So join Munchy and his friends as they soar away
- 27:29Speaker 3: on a magical fantasy adventure starring Lonnie Anderson.
- 27:33Speaker 5: You give whatever it is back to Gage.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Andrew Stevens.
- 27:37Speaker 8: I'm gonna rest it.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Artie Johnson. Could you introduce him to me? Jamie McKinnon.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Okay, you got me.
- 27:46Speaker 8: Where are the cameras?
- 27:47Speaker 3: And Dom DeLuise as the voice of Munchy.
- 27:50Speaker 8: Hey, sometimes you gotta help people in spite of themselves. Magical.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Hey kids, it's Brian.
- 28:01Speaker 6: So you're listening to this episode, and it sounds pretty good, right?
- 28:06Speaker 6: That's because we're using our new mics from the Doo-Wop Shop.
- 28:09Speaker 5: We are using the.
- 28:10Speaker 6: VLH-SM2000s that are made specifically for the Doo-Wop Shop.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And if you want one, you can go get one yourself.
- 28:17Speaker 6: They are actually only $ 65 if you want to buy one,
- 28:21Speaker 6: or they rent everything in the Doo-Wop shop, so you
- 28:23Speaker 6: can go there and get it for as little as
- 28:25Speaker 6: $ 5 a month. So you too can be out there
- 28:27Speaker 6: using your microphones to record a show, or interview people, or,
- 28:30Speaker 6: I don't know, most people probably have, like, bands and,
- 28:33Speaker 6: you know, rent instruments and stuff, which.
- 28:35Speaker 11: They also do.
- 28:35Speaker 6: They have a huge selection of instruments, so... Anything you
- 28:39Speaker 6: need for any type of event, whether it's a music
- 28:42Speaker 6: show or a business meeting or whatever kind of occasion
- 28:44Speaker 6: you've got, they've pretty much got everything covered. So if
- 28:47Speaker 6: they are located in Louisville, you can go to the
- 28:50Speaker 6: Highland Store at 1587 Bartstown Road or in the East
- 28:54Speaker 6: End at 2915 South Hurstburn Parkway. Even if you're not
- 28:57Speaker 6: in the area, they have the website like most businesses,
- 29:00Speaker 6: but you go to doo-wop.com. And specifically, they have a
- 29:04Speaker 6: huge selection of karaoke discs. So you can actually go
- 29:07Speaker 6: to the website. They have thousands of titles to choose from,
- 29:10Speaker 6: and they're only like $ 4. 99 a month. So whatever you
- 29:13Speaker 6: need karaoke-wise, they can hook you up through the internet,
- 29:16Speaker 6: and you don't even have to be in the area.
- 29:18Speaker 5: So again, that is doo-wop.com. Go there.
- 29:21Speaker 6: They'll have whatever you need. They certainly did with us
- 29:23Speaker 6: for the mic. So yeah, go to doo-wop.com and check
- 29:26Speaker 6: it out.
- 29:29Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 29:30Speaker 8: So what are we talking about now.
- 30:01Speaker 10: Can I pretend like I'm at the Oscars and I
- 30:03Speaker 10: analyze people's fashion?
- 30:05Speaker 5: Do you have a title for your runway critique?
- 30:10Speaker 7: Nope.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Marlena's runway critique? Yep. All right. Go to town.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Those look like very comfortable shoes that that woman is wearing.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Orthopedic, perhaps?
- 30:20Speaker 8: Yes.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Hey, I wear orthopedic shoes. Don't knock it.
- 30:25Speaker 8: They're very cute, too.
- 30:26Speaker 5: And you're proud of them.
- 30:27Speaker 2: They're very cute. Look at these.
- 30:27Speaker 5: And you have 47 pair of orthopedic shoes.
- 30:30Speaker 2: No, I only have four. She has a shoe problem.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I get lots of compliments on my orthopedic shoes specifically.
- 30:37Speaker 5: From old ladies.
- 30:38Speaker 10: No.
- 30:40Speaker 8: Well, yes.
- 30:41Speaker 2: But also young people.
- 30:42Speaker 5: Every grandma you run into.
- 30:43Speaker 10: I like the back of that lady's shirt. It's like
- 30:45Speaker 10: a little bow thing. She's got a little bow thing
- 30:47Speaker 10: going on. It's really cute. Actually, I think she has
- 30:50Speaker 10: her shirt on backwards, though. I'm just going to throw
- 30:52Speaker 10: that out there. Pretty sure her shirt's on backwards.
- 30:56Speaker 6: Since we've mentioned the fact that you have such a
- 30:57Speaker 6: fan base, and the one thing they love the most
- 31:00Speaker 6: is a Marlena moment, you were kind of telling me earlier,
- 31:04Speaker 6: could you share with them, since we saw the guy
- 31:06Speaker 6: with the vacuum cleaner story?
- 31:09Speaker 2: My ghost story?
- 31:10Speaker 8: No, the vacuum cleaner story. Oh, okay.
- 31:12Speaker 5: And now it's time for a Marlena moment.
- 31:15Speaker 10: Okay, so a couple of years ago, my friend Amanda
- 31:19Speaker 10: was driving down the street with one of her friends,
- 31:22Speaker 10: This didn't happen to me.
- 31:23Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 31:25Speaker 5: It's only a story that I would hear from you.
- 31:28Speaker 5: That's a Marlena moment.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:30Speaker 10: So she's driving down the street with her friend, and
- 31:33Speaker 10: they see, like, this brand-new carpet shampoo on the side
- 31:36Speaker 10: of the road.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And they're like, oh, cool. Well, even if there's something
- 31:40Speaker 2: wrong with it, maybe we know someone that can fix it.
- 31:42Speaker 10: So let's take it. So they put it in the van,
- 31:44Speaker 10: and they get it home and realize it's filled with blood.
- 31:48Speaker 10: And then they found out that it's because a teenager
- 31:52Speaker 10: had shot himself, and his parents bought the carpet shampooer to, like,
- 31:56Speaker 10: clean up all of his blood, and then just put
- 31:58Speaker 10: it on the curb because they're like, we don't want this.
- 32:00Speaker 5: That's not really a keepsake you want.
- 32:02Speaker 10: Yeah, like a memento of your dead child.
- 32:05Speaker 2: No, no one really wants that.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Put that carpet cleaner on the mantle.
- 32:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Next to his urn.
- 32:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 5: That's not cool at all.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:13Speaker 2: That's a.
- 32:14Speaker 10: That's a mild Marlena moment. That's a side Marlena moment.
- 32:18Speaker 10: I once told a friend about that, and he almost
- 32:20Speaker 10: drew a picture of that and made it his album cover.
- 32:22Speaker 2: I was like, I don't really think people would get it.
- 32:25Speaker 5: No, it would be quite a story involved.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Hey, I think it would make a good horror movie, though, somehow.
- 32:31Speaker 2: I don't know how, but it would.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Do you need to go into your ghost story now?
- 32:35Speaker 10: I'm really tired of telling my ghost story. But I
- 32:39Speaker 10: think I have Poltergeist.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Or a poltergeist. Oh, hot damn hobo. I think it's
- 32:45Speaker 2: connected to hot damn hobo.
- 32:47Speaker 6: Oh, you guys have to go old school to get
- 32:48Speaker 6: to that. I mean, hot damn hobo was like two
- 32:50Speaker 6: years ago.
- 32:50Speaker 5: No, it's new.
- 32:51Speaker 2: It's new.
- 32:51Speaker 5: It's still happening.
- 32:51Speaker 6: What I'm saying, like to get the base story for
- 32:53Speaker 6: the hot damn hobo, you got to go back to
- 32:54Speaker 6: like Christmas two years ago.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 11: Okay.
- 32:57Speaker 2: I'll do that.
- 32:57Speaker 10: So a few years ago at my old house, I
- 33:00Speaker 10: would wake up in the morning and find hot damn
- 33:02Speaker 10: bottles in the alley that weren't there the night before,
- 33:05Speaker 10: like lots of hot damn bottles. And if you know
- 33:06Speaker 10: what hot damn is, it's a cinnamon liquor that That
- 33:09Speaker 10: if you drink a.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Lot of, you should probably die.
- 33:11Speaker 8: And may.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 10: And so that happened for years while I lived there.
- 33:17Speaker 10: And like a year and a half ago, I moved
- 33:20Speaker 10: into a new house. And just like within the last
- 33:24Speaker 10: month or two, I started finding hot damn bottles in
- 33:28Speaker 10: the alley again. And like I live probably about a
- 33:32Speaker 10: mile away from my last house, so it's kind of weird.
- 33:34Speaker 7: But.
- 33:35Speaker 2: It is weird.
- 33:36Speaker 10: One morning I woke up, and in the alley, there
- 33:39Speaker 10: are seven empty hot damn bottles that weren't there the
- 33:42Speaker 10: night before.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Seven.
- 33:43Speaker 10: Who could drink seven bottles of hot damn? And people
- 33:45Speaker 10: are like, well, maybe it's a group of teenagers, or
- 33:47Speaker 10: maybe it's more than one person. I'm like, I don't
- 33:49Speaker 10: think it is. I don't think that it is.
- 33:51Speaker 6: If you had enough money to buy seven bottles of
- 33:53Speaker 6: hot damn, wouldn't you just put it all together and
- 33:55Speaker 6: buy one good booze?
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 33:59Speaker 5: I don't know how the pricing goes on hot damn.
- 34:00Speaker 10: I think hot damn is just their jam. They're like, oh,
- 34:03Speaker 10: hot damn, this is my jam.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And they mean it. They mean it.
- 34:06Speaker 6: That's our new Marlena-themed T-shirt that's coming up.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Please send funding so we can make a Marlena T-shirt.
- 34:12Speaker 2: I've seen that.
- 34:12Speaker 10: Every time I walk my dog, my dog poops, like,
- 34:14Speaker 10: right by where the bottles are. And I'm like, oh,
- 34:17Speaker 10: hot damn, this is my jam. Because it's just so relevant.
- 34:21Speaker 10: I mean, it's relevant. But, okay, but it's by my
- 34:24Speaker 10: neighbor's shed. And hot damn hobo, whoever he is, maybe
- 34:27Speaker 10: he's a person, maybe he's a ghost or a monster.
- 34:29Speaker 5: He or she.
- 34:30Speaker 2: He or she.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Or a bit paranormal activity that he is.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 34:33Speaker 10: I don't know what hot damn hobo is. I kind
- 34:35Speaker 10: of want to know, but then again, I don't want
- 34:36Speaker 10: to find out and ruin the fun. Because, like, what
- 34:38Speaker 10: if it's just, like, this totally normal person? That would
- 34:40Speaker 10: be lame.
- 34:41Speaker 2: If he's going to be a hobo, he better have, like,
- 34:43Speaker 2: one arm.
- 34:45Speaker 5: And a bindle.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. A bindle at least.
- 34:47Speaker 5: It's really hard to tie a bindle with one arm.
- 34:50Speaker 2: He uses his feet.
- 34:51Speaker 8: He probably does.
- 34:52Speaker 2: He's extra interesting.
- 34:55Speaker 10: Yeah, so there's, like, the back of my neighbor's shed. It's, like,
- 34:59Speaker 10: made of paneling. And it's been pulled apart and I
- 35:01Speaker 10: guess he gets in there when it's really cold and
- 35:03Speaker 10: he sleeps. Yeah, so now there's like 22 hot damn
- 35:06Speaker 10: bottles in the alley. And a bunch of dog poop
- 35:10Speaker 10: because like I said, it's where my dog poops.
- 35:11Speaker 6: Okay, if we put these stories together, maybe your dog
- 35:14Speaker 6: is the hot damn hobo.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Have you ever seen her.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Sneak out there?
- 35:18Speaker 10: I don't think my dog breaks out to the liquor
- 35:22Speaker 10: store and buys hot damn and.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Then drinks it in the alley.
- 35:24Speaker 1: She might.
- 35:25Speaker 5: She's a peculiar dog.
- 35:25Speaker 10: But you know, here's the thing because I'm like, This
- 35:28Speaker 10: is a perfect place for Hot Damn Hobo to live
- 35:29Speaker 10: because he could just poop there and no one would
- 35:31Speaker 10: know that it's hot dog poop.
- 35:32Speaker 5: They'd blame it all on your dog.
- 35:33Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:34Speaker 10: I think that's what happens because sometimes there's poop piles
- 35:36Speaker 10: that my dog didn't put there.
- 35:38Speaker 2: So I think he poops there too. As long as
- 35:40Speaker 2: you're cool with that.
- 35:43Speaker 10: But yeah, then weird stuff started happening in my house
- 35:45Speaker 10: and I thought I had like a cat burglar or
- 35:46Speaker 10: something like that.
- 35:48Speaker 2: But I don't.
- 35:49Speaker 10: Because I mean I checked my house and I was
- 35:50Speaker 10: there and then my lights just started going off. Like
- 35:53Speaker 10: the switches started going off by themselves. So I think
- 35:56Speaker 10: maybe I'm insane. Maybe. Here's the theories I've come up with.
- 36:01Speaker 10: Hot damn hobo is real and he's very sneaky. He's, like,
- 36:04Speaker 10: a very sneaky human who's, like, okay, like, I love
- 36:08Speaker 10: Roger Miller, but that song, Trailers for Sailor Rent, really
- 36:11Speaker 10: freaks me out because he talks about, like, every lock
- 36:14Speaker 10: that isn't locked when no one's around. And I just
- 36:16Speaker 10: think of, like, some hobo tramp, like, sneaky breaking into
- 36:20Speaker 10: people's houses and just, like, eating their chip, like, one
- 36:23Speaker 10: chip out of the bag and, like, peeing in their toilet.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Like, I think about that. I think of.
- 36:27Speaker 10: think about Roger Miller every time I come home and
- 36:30Speaker 10: something's amiss. So that's one theory. The weird things in
- 36:37Speaker 10: my house are in some way connected to Hot Damn
- 36:39Speaker 10: Hobo because he's a human who's very sneaky and very
- 36:42Speaker 10: good at picking locks. He breaks into my house and
- 36:44Speaker 10: moves things around. Theory two, poltergeist, which is like not
- 36:50Speaker 10: really ghosts but like psychic activity or something like that.
- 36:54Speaker 2: You do have a TV.
- 36:55Speaker 10: Theory three, I have a couple of TVs. Theory three
- 36:58Speaker 10: is that it's a ghost. And I feel like I
- 37:03Speaker 10: had a fourth theory, but I forgot. Oh, fourth theory
- 37:07Speaker 10: is that I'm experiencing some weird Tyler Durden thing, and
- 37:12Speaker 10: I'm the hot damn hobo, and this stuff isn't really happening.
- 37:15Speaker 10: I'm just losing my marbles and imagining that this stuff
- 37:18Speaker 10: is happening.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Spoiler alert for your life.
- 37:19Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:20Speaker 5: You don't want to ruin it when you're chasing yourself down.
- 37:22Speaker 10: Well, no, Jessica was there and experienced some weird things,
- 37:24Speaker 10: so she has confirmed that they're real because I was, like,
- 37:27Speaker 10: really starting to worry.
- 37:29Speaker 5: At any point, do you fight with meatloaf in a
- 37:31Speaker 5: parking lot?
- 37:32Speaker 1: No.
- 37:33Speaker 5: Can we arrange that somehow?
- 37:34Speaker 8: I would love to.
- 37:35Speaker 5: People would pay good money.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Hey, there used to be this guy at Golden Corral
- 37:38Speaker 2: that looked just like meatloaf. Does that count?
- 37:40Speaker 5: We did see a meatloaf tribute act once. Yeah. Misty
- 37:44Speaker 5: and I went and saw him.
- 37:45Speaker 8: He was pretty impressive, by the way.
- 37:46Speaker 2: You went to see him?
- 37:47Speaker 5: Oh, on purpose. On purpose. His brother is an Elvis impersonator.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 37:52Speaker 5: And he's a meatloaf impersonator.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
- 37:54Speaker 5: What a family they have.
- 37:56Speaker 10: That makes sense. But, yeah, so I don't know. I
- 37:59Speaker 10: don't really know what's going on. Like if it's a poltergeist, hobo.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Mental disorder.
- 38:04Speaker 10: Mental disorder or ghost. But it's one of those things. Yep,
- 38:10Speaker 10: that's what's been happening in my life.
- 38:12Speaker 5: That's what's happened.
- 38:15Speaker 10: I have a friend now who only, like, the only
- 38:18Speaker 10: text messages he ever sends me anymore, it's like a
- 38:20Speaker 10: long boo.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Boo!
- 38:23Speaker 10: That's just what he sends me in text messages. And
- 38:25Speaker 10: if I'm like, if I mention anything, he's like, well,
- 38:28Speaker 10: maybe the ghost can cook you dinner or something like that.
- 38:32Speaker 10: And I'm like, I didn't think it was a ghost, Brian.
- 38:34Speaker 10: I thought it was poltergeist, and that's different.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Ugh.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Well, maybe ghosts have just learned how to text now.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe.
- 38:44Speaker 8: Or poltergeists are living in electronic units.
- 38:46Speaker 2: And also, here's a new theory. Maybe I'm a ghost.
- 38:50Speaker 5: You are spoiling this thing all over. I don't know.
- 38:53Speaker 2: But I'm not. I mean, this is.
- 38:55Speaker 8: Marlena was a ghost all along.
- 38:57Speaker 10: I'm making a joke, and this is funny, but, like,
- 38:59Speaker 10: Seriously weird things have been happening at my house. This
- 39:03Speaker 10: might be the last time we ever hear from you.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I might die under mysterious circumstances or something.
- 39:10Speaker 8: You'll get sucked into the TV.
- 39:12Speaker 2: I've seen it. I only watch TV on my computer.
- 39:13Speaker 8: Your house is not cleansed.
- 39:15Speaker 10: I only watch TV on my computer anymore. And I
- 39:18Speaker 10: really only watch Parks and Recreation lately. Other than I
- 39:21Speaker 10: watched Munchie last night. But if it's going to suck
- 39:24Speaker 10: me into one of those things, that'd be really weird.
- 39:27Speaker 5: You'll be Leslie Knope's new best friend that'd be cool
- 39:31Speaker 5: she needs one.
- 39:32Speaker 10: Now why is Rashida Jensen on the show I haven't
- 39:34Speaker 10: watched any of the new episodes she and Rob Lowe
- 39:36Speaker 10: took off to have a magic baby to have their
- 39:39Speaker 10: weird baby oh no don't ruin it for me I
- 39:42Speaker 10: haven't seen it I'm still watching season 5 I'm watching
- 39:45Speaker 10: it on Netflix god.
- 39:47Speaker 5: Had they not blown it on the TV commercial, I
- 39:49Speaker 5: wouldn't really know either.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I don't watch TV.
- 39:51Speaker 5: This is your problem.
- 39:52Speaker 8: The TV will keep away the spirits.
- 39:54Speaker 5: The internet is probably still letting them in.
- 39:56Speaker 6: You have to watch bad advertising on television is what
- 39:58Speaker 6: keeps the evil spirits away.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I don't think that's how it happens.
- 40:04Speaker 10: Yeah, I think those are the funniest things, the weirdest
- 40:06Speaker 10: things that have happened lately. I mean, I'm just a
- 40:09Speaker 10: magnet for strange and hilarious occurrences. Like when we were
- 40:13Speaker 10: walking in, Brian is carrying a Tupperware bin full of
- 40:17Speaker 10: T-shirts and some guy, what did he say?
- 40:19Speaker 5: Y'all got a pig in a poke.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Y'all got a pig in a poke. I don't even
- 40:23Speaker 2: know what that means. That's really weird.
- 40:25Speaker 6: I mean, it is a saying, but why he felt
- 40:27Speaker 6: the need to say it to me in a parking
- 40:29Speaker 6: lot or you in a parking lot or both of
- 40:31Speaker 6: us in a parking lot.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Is very strange.
- 40:33Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 40:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I mean, that's pretty mild in the grand scheme of
- 40:37Speaker 2: things that happened.
- 40:38Speaker 5: It was still a little random.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:39Speaker 5: A little odd.
- 40:41Speaker 2: I think it might, maybe it's the town that I
- 40:43Speaker 2: live in or I don't know.
- 40:45Speaker 5: It might just be you.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Might just be me. I think it is me.
- 40:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 2: So, I'm hungry.
- 40:50Speaker 10: I really want to go to that Dairy Whip place.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Yeah, we did drive by a really cool old school
- 40:56Speaker 6: hamburger joint, so we're pretty sure we're going there later.
- 40:59Speaker 10: I'm worried that it's going to close, though. It is Saturday, though,
- 41:03Speaker 10: so that's probably what people do in this town.
- 41:05Speaker 5: You should Google them.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I don't even remember what it was called.
- 41:08Speaker 5: They might have internet in this place.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I bet they do.
- 41:11Speaker 6: We'll flag down one of those two again and be like, hey,
- 41:13Speaker 6: I'm sure you know if it closes or not.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Of all the cool things in your town. They probably
- 41:17Speaker 5: know about that.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Oh, I got a new puppy. She almost puked on
- 41:23Speaker 2: my face the other day.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Your stories are charming.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I know.
- 41:29Speaker 5: All of them.
- 41:32Speaker 10: This is why, I mean, you know, it's like, I
- 41:35Speaker 10: feel like I make friends pretty easily. But then I
- 41:37Speaker 10: have this problem all the time where I'm like, no
- 41:39Speaker 10: one gets me. No, it's not even that. It's just
- 41:42Speaker 10: because I can dial it. I can dial it down.
- 41:44Speaker 10: And be, like, almost a regular person.
- 41:46Speaker 5: Sometimes.
- 41:46Speaker 2: But I don't want to do that.
- 41:48Speaker 8: I don't. It's just not fun.
- 41:49Speaker 2: You shouldn't have to.
- 41:50Speaker 5: It's, like, hard. That's what we're saying.
- 41:51Speaker 2: It's hard. You shouldn't have to.
- 41:53Speaker 6: When you find that right person, they will appreciate you
- 41:56Speaker 6: for all your dog-puking stories.
- 41:58Speaker 2: I know. Right? Right?
- 41:59Speaker 10: Like, yesterday, I was having this conversation with, like, my
- 42:02Speaker 10: new BFF. And I mentioned, like, the Problem Child movie.
- 42:07Speaker 10: He goes, I love the Problem Child movie. I was like,
- 42:10Speaker 10: it's so underrated. Yeah.
- 42:12Speaker 2: He was like, I listen to the soundtrack all the time.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I was like, I'm so glad we're friends.
- 42:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:19Speaker 5: You're both weird.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I know. It's awesome.
- 42:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:23Speaker 10: And, I mean, oh, yeah. But, yeah, she's a really
- 42:26Speaker 10: cute puppy. And she was sleeping, like, right above my face.
- 42:30Speaker 10: And it was, like, 5 in the morning. And I
- 42:32Speaker 10: heard her starting to throw up. And I, like, was
- 42:34Speaker 10: able to catch it in my hand before it went
- 42:36Speaker 10: on my face.
- 42:36Speaker 2: That was horrible.
- 42:39Speaker 5: Charming to blast.
- 42:41Speaker 2: So charming. All my stories. I'm like a Disney princess.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Aren't you?
- 42:47Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what? I think that's why I wear
- 42:50Speaker 2: party dresses all the time because I'm like the world's.
- 42:53Speaker 10: Most disgusting human being that I have to balance it out.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Everywhere you go is a party.
- 42:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 43:01Speaker 10: Also, my life has been heavily influenced by that Tom
- 43:04Speaker 10: Petty song, Last Days with Mary Jane. So every time
- 43:07Speaker 10: I get dressed in the morning, I sing to myself, Honey,
- 43:10Speaker 10: put on that part. There's a lot of singing in
- 43:12Speaker 10: my life.
- 43:12Speaker 5: You've seen the video, right?
- 43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I know she dies, or she's already dead.
- 43:17Speaker 5: So you really want somebody to dance around with you
- 43:18Speaker 5: while you're dead.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:20Speaker 6: Well, we had a guy earlier that likes dead bodies,
- 43:22Speaker 6: so we can see what we can put together.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I just choked on air.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Did you catch it in your hand?
- 43:31Speaker 10: I didn't throw up. Yeah, but anyway, back to my story.
- 43:38Speaker 10: Which I think I was done with.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:40Speaker 5: Oh, Lord.
- 43:41Speaker 2: That's a glorious mullet. It's a glory mullet. That's a
- 43:46Speaker 2: new thing.
- 43:46Speaker 5: That is straight out of To Catch a Yeti.
- 43:48Speaker 6: For those of you who have been following along, there
- 43:51Speaker 6: were some beauty.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Mullets, eh?
- 43:53Speaker 2: Beauty mullet. Fashion mullet. Beauty mullet. Glory mullet. Should be
- 43:57Speaker 2: like a system of writing mullets. Like butts.
- 44:01Speaker 5: You can put that with your butt grading.
- 44:04Speaker 8: Nice.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Yep.
- 44:05Speaker 7: Um.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's what happened to me lately.
- 44:13Speaker 6: Yes, this interlude has been your gift from Marlena and myself,
- 44:17Speaker 6: because I handed her the mic, so you're welcome from
- 44:20Speaker 6: both of us.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Sucker.

- 45:30Speaker 7: Hey guys, it's the repeater from Tower of Technobabble, and
- 45:35Speaker 7: we're getting ready to do our next show, and I
- 45:37Speaker 7: thought it might be cool for you to look behind
- 45:40Speaker 7: the scenes.
- 45:40Speaker 1: And see how the magic happens. In fact, Conduit is
- 45:44Speaker 1: getting Towerbot-ready.
- 45:45Speaker 8: Right now, as we speak. I made it for $ 30, 000
- 46:04Speaker 8: in two days and a night.
- 46:40Speaker 1: This is Roger Corman, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 46:43Speaker 3: It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen
- 46:51Speaker 3: enough movies.
- 46:52Speaker 11: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 46:55Speaker 3: And now, on with the show.
- 47:01Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 47:59Speaker 1: All right, Marlena.
- 47:59Speaker 5: We're about to go and talk to Peter Weller.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I'm so excited. Yay!
- 48:05Speaker 5: We did get a chance to talk to Peter Weller.
- 48:07Speaker 5: Thanks to PJ.
- 48:09Speaker 6: Wes definitely got us in the door, but PJ went
- 48:11Speaker 6: out of his way to at least make sure we
- 48:13Speaker 6: got a chance to spend a few minutes with him.
- 48:16Speaker 5: So it is short. I just kind of hit.
- 48:18Speaker 6: The big movies or one or two things I thought
- 48:22Speaker 6: would be interesting, but it was literally minutes before.
- 48:25Speaker 5: He had to go and do the Q & A.
- 48:27Speaker 6: The credits were about to roll on the Buckaroo Banzai,
- 48:30Speaker 6: so he was just getting ready to walk off. So
- 48:33Speaker 6: It is quick, but we do get a chance to
- 48:35Speaker 6: talk to Peter Weller, so that's awesome. So let's go
- 48:38Speaker 6: there now and see what Peter has to say. I
- 48:42Speaker 6: just kind of wanted to do a touch base on
- 48:44Speaker 6: a few. I didn't know if you wanted to talk
- 48:46Speaker 6: about anything specific movie-wise.
- 48:47Speaker 1: No, you asked me because I'm ready.
- 48:49Speaker 5: All right, all right. Well, I mean, Buckaroo Banzai is
- 48:51Speaker 5: pretty amazing. How did that come together?
- 48:54Speaker 6: Is it one of those that when you read it,
- 48:56Speaker 6: it seemed as outlandish as it came together?
- 48:59Speaker 1: No, when I read it, I didn't understand it. I
- 49:01Speaker 1: still don't understand it, and if you could tell me
- 49:03Speaker 1: what it's about, I'd be happy.
- 49:06Speaker 6: What did you want to do as far as approaching
- 49:08Speaker 6: that character? I mean, he definitely holds that film together.
- 49:12Speaker 1: I based him on three people, Adam Ant, Elia Kazan,
- 49:15Speaker 1: and Jacques Cousteau.
- 49:16Speaker 8: Nice. I mean, as far as.
- 49:20Speaker 6: RoboCop, when you read through that the first time, was
- 49:22Speaker 6: the satire already there, or was it straightforward?
- 49:25Speaker 1: No, that was already there. It was a brilliant script.
- 49:29Speaker 1: And I got a call from my agent, a great guy,
- 49:32Speaker 1: Rick Nassita, and said, hey, there's a film about a robot.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Maybe you want to do it, maybe not. Go meet
- 49:36Speaker 1: the director, Paul Verhoeven. He's a Dutch guy, so they
- 49:38Speaker 1: don't have to tell me who he is. I knew
- 49:39Speaker 1: who Paul Verhoeven was. I was a big fan of him.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Read the script. It was brilliant. And just told Paul
- 49:44Speaker 1: Verhoeven right up front, I want to do this movie.
- 49:47Speaker 1: And I know your movies. You wanted me to test.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I didn't test. And I conned him, and I kind
- 49:52Speaker 1: of browbeat him into me doing it.
- 49:55Speaker 5: How much of it did you add as far as character-wise?
- 49:58Speaker 1: Well, I added a lot with the help of Moni Akin. M-O-N-I-Y-A-K-I-N,
- 50:04Speaker 1: who's head of the movement department at Juilliard, who essentially
- 50:07Speaker 1: worked all that movement out. So it was six months
- 50:09Speaker 1: of preparation for that thing. And it lowered the voice
- 50:12Speaker 1: and all of that stuff.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Yeah. In other words, going to do Naked Lunch.
- 50:17Speaker 6: That's one of those, I was working with Cronenberg, and
- 50:21Speaker 6: then you got to know Burroughs because of that movie,
- 50:23Speaker 6: or had you known him before that?
- 50:25Speaker 1: I didn't know Burroughs before. The book was one of
- 50:28Speaker 1: my very favorite books, a seminal book of import to me.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It's considered by Time Life one of the 10 or
- 50:35Speaker 1: 20 most seminal books written in the English language in
- 50:37Speaker 1: the 20th century. It's satire. It's Gulliver's Travels. It's social, heavy,
- 50:44Speaker 1: heavy satire. And Cronenberg I was a fan of. And
- 50:47Speaker 1: another thing, I browbeat Cronenberg into hiring me. I wrote
- 50:50Speaker 1: him a letter and told him I wanted to do it.
- 50:53Speaker 6: And.
- 50:54Speaker 1: He met with me and hired me. And Burroughs and
- 50:57Speaker 1: I hung out for about two or three months before
- 51:00Speaker 1: the film.
- 51:01Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 51:04Speaker 11: And like that, he's gone.
- 51:09Speaker 6: All right, so we are rounding things out here at
- 51:12Speaker 6: the Film Fest.
- 51:14Speaker 5: We've got PJ back.
- 51:16Speaker 6: Go ahead and give them the information as far as
- 51:18Speaker 6: if they want to seek you out in the future.
- 51:21Speaker 8: My name is PJ Starks. Are you talking about my
- 51:24Speaker 8: personal information?
- 51:25Speaker 5: You can do all of it, you know.
- 51:27Speaker 8: Well, I don't really have a website, but I do have,
- 51:30Speaker 8: you can check out my stuff on YouTube, forward slash
- 51:32Speaker 8: Verite Cinema Films. That's V-E-R-I-T-E, Cinema Films. And then also,
- 51:39Speaker 8: you can go to RiverCityFestivalOfFilms.com, which is the event that
- 51:42Speaker 8: you guys were at today. Or you can just look
- 51:45Speaker 8: me up on Facebook. I pretty much accept anybody, but
- 51:47Speaker 8: do expect to get about 10 page likes today. once
- 51:51Speaker 8: I accept your friend request.
- 51:54Speaker 5: That doesn't just go for Facebook, right? You pretty much
- 51:56Speaker 5: accept anybody. Is that what you're saying?
- 51:57Speaker 8: Pretty much. If you show up at my house, I'll
- 51:59Speaker 8: give you a high five. I'll let you in. I'll
- 52:00Speaker 8: make you some cocoa. And then I will ask you
- 52:02Speaker 8: to like all my Facebook pages.
- 52:05Speaker 5: We're moving into real world now. We have to like
- 52:07Speaker 5: physically like your movie.
- 52:08Speaker 8: You're like, look at this.
- 52:09Speaker 5: Look at this. You like it? Okay, I like it.
- 52:11Speaker 1: God.
- 52:12Speaker 8: I'm going to treat you like you're my mom. And
- 52:14Speaker 8: I'm going to say, hey, look at what I did.
- 52:16Speaker 8: Which is, you know, I've gotten pretty good at that
- 52:18Speaker 8: over the years, saying, hey, look at what I'm doing.
- 52:20Speaker 8: So it's working out. Basically, Facebook is just the refrigerator
- 52:23Speaker 8: of the Internet.
- 52:24Speaker 5: It's like, hey, look what I did. Put it up
- 52:25Speaker 5: on the fridge. Mom goes, that's great.
- 52:29Speaker 8: You know, you should make like a different version. And
- 52:32Speaker 8: instead of the wall, you could do the fridge. Just
- 52:38Speaker 8: so you know, I just silenced my wife's phone call.
- 52:41Speaker 8: So that's how important you guys are to me right now.
- 52:43Speaker 6: I'd say we'll keep that between us, but now you're
- 52:45Speaker 6: going out into the Internet and millions and millions.
- 52:48Speaker 5: Of listeners just heard you. Especially that guy in Sri Lanka.
- 52:52Speaker 5: But anyway.
- 52:53Speaker 8: Or Wes, who we'll listen to this later. Which, you know,
- 52:56Speaker 8: I'm sure he's just seething because he did not get
- 52:58Speaker 8: the backstage pass that you guys got.
- 53:00Speaker 6: See, we're in the cool kids club. And Wes didn't
- 53:04Speaker 6: qualify is what we're saying.
- 53:06Speaker 8: That's what happens when you wear pretentious scarves. Actually, that
- 53:10Speaker 8: is my wife.
- 53:10Speaker 5: You're going to get in trouble. We better let you
- 53:12Speaker 5: go before you get in trouble. Thank you. All right. Well,
- 53:15Speaker 5: I think that about wraps it up this week. We
- 53:17Speaker 5: do want to thank everybody at the River City Festival
- 53:20Speaker 5: of Films, specifically Wes, PJ, and I guess we have
- 53:23Speaker 5: to thank Peter Weller for at least taking a few.
- 53:26Speaker 6: Minutes there to talk to us. And that was awesome.
- 53:29Speaker 6: So it's been a fun day.
- 53:31Speaker 5: And we got to eat potato pizza.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good.
- 53:34Speaker 5: What was the name of that place?
- 53:37Speaker 1: Feta. Feta.
- 53:38Speaker 5: There's an extra little plug for feta there because we
- 53:40Speaker 5: liked pizza with mashed potatoes on it. There's a shocker
- 53:44Speaker 5: knowing our career. Yeah.
- 53:46Speaker 10: Everyone in Owensboro is really, like, friendly. Like, a level
- 53:51Speaker 10: of friendly that I would consider creepy in Louisville. But,
- 53:55Speaker 10: I mean, it's a small town thing. Like, I remember
- 53:58Speaker 10: once when I was visiting my aunt in Salem, Indiana,
- 54:01Speaker 10: every time I'd walk down the street, everyone would wave
- 54:03Speaker 10: at me.
- 54:03Speaker 2: And I was like, what the fuck is wrong with
- 54:05Speaker 2: you people? That's just what people do in small towns.
- 54:07Speaker 2: They're nice.
- 54:09Speaker 5: I wasn't either. It was kind of weirding me out.
- 54:11Speaker 5: And then I got into it. It's cool. But yeah,
- 54:13Speaker 5: everybody we've met.
- 54:14Speaker 2: What are you doing? Oh, you're being nice.
- 54:18Speaker 6: Everybody we've talked to today has been really great, I
- 54:20Speaker 6: have to say, which is not always the case in
- 54:22Speaker 6: some of these events. So it was fun. So thanks, everyone,
- 54:27Speaker 6: for putting it together. It's been a good day.
- 54:29Speaker 5: And with that, we will leave you.
- 54:31Speaker 8: Otherwise, that about does it.
- 54:32Speaker 5: We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Thanks for listening. Thank you.
- 55:17Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 56:16Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 57:16Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 57:52Speaker 11: Thank you.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Where's that music coming from?
- 58:35Speaker 5: That TV over there?
- 58:38Speaker 11: Oh.
- 58:40Speaker 5: You just thought it was a portal for spirits?
- 58:43Speaker 2: Yes, that's what TVs are to me.
- 58:45Speaker 5: You didn't know sound came out of them?
- 58:47Speaker 2: Spirit portals. Yeah. God. I know how to operate in
- 58:53Speaker 2: the real world, sort of.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Only when you dial it back a couple notches. Yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 2: That's probably true.
- 58:59Speaker 11: Oh, Lord.
- 59:03Speaker 2: I'm going to go find a soda, I think.
- 59:06Speaker 5: Because you need more sugar.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Did you turn this off like five minutes ago? I
- 59:09Speaker 2: never turned it off. I've really just been rambling. I
- 59:12Speaker 2: don't even know what I'm talking about.
- 59:13Speaker 5: That's called movie melting.
- 59:16Speaker 2: I'm just standing here.
- 59:17Speaker 11: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
