- 0:00Speaker 1: This is one of our favorite times of the show,
- 0:03Speaker 1: the progress of the show. The first is that when
- 0:06Speaker 1: we greet new interns, it's nice to have them around.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And then it's also really great to say goodbye to
- 0:13Speaker 1: them because they've outlived their usefulness to us. So, Lakai,
- 0:20Speaker 1: how long have you been with us?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Like five, almost six-ish months, I think. That long?
- 0:24Speaker 1: That long. I hardly ever see you and I usually,
- 0:28Speaker 1: you're always in the bathroom and I hardly ever even
- 0:31Speaker 1: talk to you because I'm making my way to the
- 0:33Speaker 1: bathroom as quickly as I can so I can get
- 0:35Speaker 1: back on. And so I just go, hi, good morning.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That's about it.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Well, so I've heard you guys say on the radio
- 0:40Speaker 2: that you're trying to get to your desk and not
- 0:41Speaker 2: talk to anyone. And I respect that.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So how did you come to be with us? Why?
- 0:47Speaker 1: How and why?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, I listen to the radio all the time. My
- 0:51Speaker 2: parents do, too. And I just heard that you guys
- 0:53Speaker 2: were looking for a new intern. I went to a
- 0:56Speaker 2: film school.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I like media.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I want to pursue media in a couple of ways.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And so I thought that'd be.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Nice to have office experience and experience in actual media
- 1:06Speaker 2: production and not just amateur productions because I've done a
- 1:10Speaker 2: bunch of student films.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Were you one of the misfits at East Hollywood High? Yes.
- 1:15Speaker 1: My son was a graduate of East Hollywood High. The
- 1:19Speaker 1: Man Bears. So what do you want to do with
- 1:22Speaker 1: the rest of your life? Do you want to continue
- 1:24Speaker 1: with this kind of thing? It's a little up in
- 1:26Speaker 1: the air.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I really care a lot about politics and journalism. And
- 1:31Speaker 2: I also care a lot about media production. So, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: I've considered stuff like going into news. Working on this
- 1:36Speaker 2: radio station has, like, been the best job ever, considering
- 1:40Speaker 2: those interests.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I also am.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Really interested in environmental science. And so that's the one
- 1:46Speaker 2: other thing that's, like, I'm either going to do this
- 1:48Speaker 2: or I'm going to do environmental science.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So you're going to pursue higher education in some way. Yes,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I intend to, at least. Did things you learned here
- 1:55Speaker 1: you think will help you in your future endeavors?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Absolutely. I think also mainly just, like, You know, having
- 2:01Speaker 2: people who can vouch for, like, they did a good
- 2:02Speaker 2: job when they were working here. That's really important in
- 2:04Speaker 2: an industry where you're trying to get more into media.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Because so much of, like, film and radio and stuff
- 2:09Speaker 2: is just like, who do you know?
- 2:10Speaker 1: And who likes you?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that has.
- 2:12Speaker 1: You know, I haven't heard you talk this much in
- 2:14Speaker 1: five months. And you have a very good, a very
- 2:17Speaker 1: nice voice for radio.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Oh, thank you so much.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you sound good on the radio.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I try to sound good, I guess.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Well, you sound, I think you probably just sound like yourself.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But it just happens to be a voice that's, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: suited to doing it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I went.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Were we nice to you?
- 2:33Speaker 2: I think so, yes. You did say good morning when
- 2:36Speaker 2: you saw me. You gave me a milkshake one time.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Oh, I did, didn't I?
- 2:39Speaker 2: That was great. Yeah, I think you're all awesome.
- 2:42Speaker 1: One of those cartoned milkshake things, you know, protein drink thing.
- 2:47Speaker 1: She took it down to the bank and made a
- 2:49Speaker 1: car payment with it. Yeah. Was that what I gave you,
- 2:52Speaker 1: one of those protein drinks?
- 2:53Speaker 2: The Donut Critic gave you a strawberry milkshake.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You didn't want to finish it. Yeah, I took two
- 2:58Speaker 1: sips of it and I couldn't finish it.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And you ended up with a milkshake. And so I'm
- 3:03Speaker 1: glad we were nice to you. I'm glad you got
- 3:05Speaker 1: a milkshake out of it. You got some knowledge. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: by the way, are you having any definite plans to
- 3:10Speaker 1: go to school now?
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's a little up in the air still because money
- 3:15Speaker 2: is a huge problem for me. But I'm probably going
- 3:19Speaker 2: next spring.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:21Speaker 2: That's what I've been signing up for and planning to do.
- 3:23Speaker 1: All right. Well, we wish you well.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And then the last thing that we– do you have
- 3:27Speaker 1: any other questions, Gary? Well, I just– I know that
- 3:30Speaker 1: Katie speaks very highly of you. Oh, awesome. You've been
- 3:33Speaker 1: super helpful. She gave me a triceratops. That's all it takes.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You could be a talentless lout. But if you gave
- 3:43Speaker 1: Katie a dinosaur.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I have an army of dinosaurs in my studio, and
- 3:47Speaker 2: it's growing.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Thank you. I love it. And I'm sure Katie would
- 3:52Speaker 1: be happy to write you a recommendation. Easily.
- 3:54Speaker 2: That would be the best thing in the world.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Well, we wish you well. And then the last thing
- 3:59Speaker 1: we say to all of our interns as they leave
- 4:01Speaker 1: us is, you see that door right there? Don't let
- 4:04Speaker 1: it hit you in the ass, okay? Okay, I won't.
- 4:06Speaker 1: All right, all right. See you later.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Thanks for being here. Thank you, Lakai. And you're always welcome.
- 4:12Speaker 2: All right.
