• 1:44
Speaker 3: a tad bit of controversy about that. The voice of

Speaker 3: Fred from Bridge Valley, doctor Casey Sachs. Welcome to the show,
• 2:13
  Speaker 3: good doctor.
• 2:15
Speaker 6: Thank you, good morning, Dave, thank you.
• 2:17
Speaker 3: For being here with us. Now, the last time we
• 2:19
Speaker 3: had you in studio, you were quite impressed by our
• 2:23
Speaker 3: new digs here. But then somehow Steve Animal of our
• 2:26
Speaker 3: sister station ninety eight seven a month and ended up
• 2:28
Speaker 3: getting involved in coming in the studio and as well.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: So that's probably why you're not here today.
• 2:32
Speaker 6: Right, No, actually it was just happenstance, but maybe a
• 2:37
  Speaker 6: good excuse.
• 2:38
Speaker 3: Good excuse I would go with that. I want to
• 2:40
Speaker 3: talk about nursing and particularly as it pertains to some
• 2:44
Speaker 3: of the partnerships that you have with other institutions throughout
• 2:49
Speaker 3: the state, particularly West Virginia University.
• 2:51
Speaker 7: Talk about that a little bit.
• 2:53
  Speaker 2: So.
• 2:54
Speaker 6: WU Medicine has really stepped up in trying to help
• 2:57
Speaker 6: fill our state's nursing shortage. One of the things that
• 3:00
Speaker 6: they've done with Bridge Valley is helped create the Aspiring
• 3:03
Speaker 6: Nurse program where they choose students who they pay to
• 3:06
Speaker 6: have go to school. So the state covers tuition and fees.
• 3:11
Speaker 6: The state has made some really generous financial aid commitments
• 3:15
Speaker 6: to students who don't already have a college degree. And
• 3:18
Speaker 6: then WVU Medicine comes alongside and says, let's give you
• 3:21
Speaker 6: a paycheck for going to school. It's that important that
• 3:24
Speaker 6: you become a nurse.
• 3:25
Speaker 3: And again that's a great partnership with WVU Medicine. I
• 3:27
Speaker 3: want to make sure that people realize that and see
• 3:30
Speaker 3: they see the importance because, as you and I talk
• 3:32
Speaker 3: just about every time you're on the show, we have
• 3:35
Speaker 3: a shortage when it comes to nurses in the state
• 3:37
  Speaker 3: of West Virginia.
• 3:38
Speaker 6: It's true, it's a huge healthcare need. All of us need,
• 3:42
Speaker 6: us need our state to have good nurses. Any of
• 3:44
Speaker 6: us could get sick at any time, and we want
• 3:46
Speaker 6: to make sure there's beds and hospitals and really good
• 3:49
Speaker 6: care for the people who we love and want to
• 3:51
  Speaker 6: take care of.
• 3:51
Speaker 3: And that's a problem not only in West Virginia. I
• 3:54
Speaker 3: do want to point out that's a problem throughout the country.
• 3:56
Speaker 3: As our population and we know about it here doctor Saxson,
• 4:01
Speaker 3: West Virginia, our population is simply getting older.
• 4:04
Speaker 6: It's true, as we have an aging population. Unfortunately, one
• 4:08
Speaker 6: of the side effects is that we need more healthcare.
• 4:10
Speaker 3: Talking to again with doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley,
• 4:12
Speaker 3: the Dave Allen showing five Anyline brought to you apartment
• 4:14
Speaker 3: by snap Fitsiness. Snap offers a wide array of professional
• 4:17
Speaker 3: wellness services, including customized personal training, licensed recovery experts, and
• 4:21
Speaker 3: the staff of dietitians. Five convenient locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield,
• 4:25
Speaker 3: Barbersville and Milton Business. Snapfitness dot com for more information.
• 4:29
Speaker 3: I've talked about this in the past, doctor Sachson. That's
• 4:32
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley's continuing commitment to working with area employers on
• 4:37
Speaker 3: various projects and offering customized training programs. Talk about that
• 4:41
  Speaker 3: a little bit.
• 4:42
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's something we actually love to do. If you're
• 4:45
Speaker 6: a business and you're listening today and you have some
• 4:47
Speaker 6: people and you're like, gosh, they're good employees, but they
• 4:49
Speaker 6: don't have quite the skills that we need for whatever
• 4:52
Speaker 6: our new processes are. We can help train them and
• 4:55
Speaker 6: so it's actually a really fun thing. Service Wire has
• 4:59
Speaker 6: come in and they've been a great partner. They said
• 5:02
Speaker 6: to all of their employees, here are things that we
• 5:05
Speaker 6: need to upskill to make our business more profitable. Who
• 5:08
Speaker 6: wants to learn these things? And so they took volunteers
• 5:11
Speaker 6: who are then signing up for courses here at Bridge Valley,
• 5:13
Speaker 6: and we customize exactly what it is that they need
• 5:16
Speaker 6: because we want service Wire to get what it is
• 5:19
Speaker 6: so that they can make their process better.
• 5:22
Speaker 3: Let me ask you this, if a business is listening
• 5:26
Speaker 3: right now, business owner or managers or whatever are listening
• 5:29
Speaker 3: to this and they say, look, I need employees, I
• 5:32
Speaker 3: need to partner up with somebody like Bridge Valley. What
• 5:35
Speaker 3: do they need to do? What's that process look like
• 5:37
Speaker 3: for them to get on that to kind of get
• 5:40
Speaker 3: that partnership with Bridge Valley.
• 5:43
Speaker 6: So the person they really need is the dean for
• 5:45
Speaker 6: whatever area it is that they need. So if you
• 5:47
Speaker 6: tell me you need an accountant, you'll be talking to
• 5:49
Speaker 6: Christy Dixon, But if you tell me you need a manufacturer,
• 5:52
Speaker 6: you'll be talking to Norm Mortensen. I'm happy to be
• 5:55
Speaker 6: that go between. So lots of business partners reach out
• 5:58
Speaker 6: to me and say, hey, doctor Sachs, will you help
• 6:00
Speaker 6: connect me to the right people, And then, depending on
• 6:03
Speaker 6: what they tell me their needs are, they end up
• 6:05
Speaker 6: with a subject matter expert in that area.
• 6:08
Speaker 3: And these are jobs that are of various types. I mean,
• 6:10
Speaker 3: I think sometimes doctor Sacks, when we think about these programs,
• 6:13
Speaker 3: we probably think about just blue collar types, and that's
• 6:16
Speaker 3: certainly a part of it. You mentioned service Wire, and
• 6:18
Speaker 3: we mentioned some of these other companies that you dealt with,
• 6:20
Speaker 3: But really it goes across the board as far as
• 6:23
Speaker 3: the different types of companies, right, it really does.
• 6:27
Speaker 6: I mean, huge need in the area is accountants, for example,
• 6:30
Speaker 6: and all kinds of businesses tell us they need IT help.
• 6:34
Speaker 6: So it might be a person who's doing IT kinds
• 6:37
Speaker 6: of functions, but in a healthcare facility or in a
• 6:39
Speaker 6: nursing home, and so it's not necessarily what you would
• 6:43
Speaker 6: think of, Like you would think a nursing home needs nurses,
• 6:45
Speaker 6: and they do, but they also need HR support and
• 6:49
Speaker 6: IT support and all kinds of other things.
• 6:52
Speaker 3: Talking again with doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley and
• 6:54
Speaker 3: doctor Sacks. If you travel a great deal like I did, well,
• 6:58
Speaker 3: I don't travel as much as I use because they
• 7:00
Speaker 3: kind of keep me tied to a microphone, you know,
• 7:02
Speaker 3: for about four or five hours a day here now.
• 7:04
Speaker 3: But as I have done in the past, and many
• 7:06
Speaker 3: of our listeners do I'm sure you know the shape
• 7:08
Speaker 3: of our roads in West Virginia. And look, I know
• 7:11
Speaker 3: I have a lot of respect for them. They're working
• 7:13
Speaker 3: on them, but it can still be a little frustrating,
• 7:16
Speaker 3: you know, as you well know you travel a lot too. Now,
• 7:19
Speaker 3: I understand Bridge Valley is offering a certification training program
• 7:23
Speaker 3: with the Department of Highways. Is that right?
• 7:26
Speaker 6: We do we do bridge training with them. It's really great.
• 7:30
Speaker 6: If somebody wants to work on a bridge in the
• 7:32
Speaker 6: state of West Virginia, we really care that that's a
• 7:35
Speaker 6: safe bridge. We really want that to be a certified person.
• 7:39
Speaker 6: We want somebody who knows what they're doing. And the
• 7:41
Speaker 6: Highways Department has worked with our faculty here to do
• 7:45
Speaker 6: certification for folks who are working on bridges and highway.
• 7:48
Speaker 3: And we have a regular texture to the show. And
• 7:51
Speaker 3: again I don't know who the textures are. We have
• 7:53
Speaker 3: a regular texture of the show who seems to be
• 7:55
Speaker 3: very concerned about the state of our bridges in West Virginia,
• 7:58
Speaker 3: particularly here in the Charles area. So I'm sure that'll
• 8:01
Speaker 3: be news to that. That'll be a great great news
• 8:06
Speaker 3: music to that texts ears for sure.
• 8:09
  Speaker 6: Yeah, great, terrific.
• 8:11
Speaker 3: I let's talk about some of the fun stuff you
• 8:13
Speaker 3: got going on campus. You guys have always got something
• 8:15
Speaker 3: going on there, either here or in Montgomery. What's you
• 8:18
  Speaker 3: got for us?
• 8:19
Speaker 6: Yeah, this week has been Spring Bash. It's been just
• 8:23
Speaker 6: a fun opportunity to get students out, pizza, that kind
• 8:27
Speaker 6: of stuff. I think that's probably been our most fun
• 8:30
Speaker 6: thing of the week.
• 8:31
Speaker 3: And that is continuing, I guess for the next couple
• 8:33
Speaker 3: of days. Right, yep, whole week, Go ahead.
• 8:37
Speaker 6: No, I was going to say. It's just in the
• 8:39
Speaker 6: lobby of building two thousand up on the hill in
• 8:42
Speaker 6: South Charleston, and it's mostly lunchtime events because we don't
• 8:45
Speaker 6: have classes from twelve to one. It's a transition period,
• 8:49
Speaker 6: and so it's a time when we have morning students
• 8:52
Speaker 6: who just come to school in the morning are still
• 8:53
Speaker 6: on campus, and students who come a little early for
• 8:55
Speaker 6: their afternoon classes, and we have a lot of overlap.
• 8:58
Speaker 6: So it's a good busy time.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: I want to close with this. I know we have
• 9:02
Speaker 3: a lot of parents, grandparents listening to the show, perhaps
• 9:06
Speaker 3: some students as well, but the ones that are getting
• 9:09
Speaker 3: ready to graduate from high school, and you and I
• 9:11
Speaker 3: could talk about this in the coming months. But now
• 9:14
Speaker 3: you know, if you're a senior in high school right now,
• 9:17
Speaker 3: you've probably had whatever. Your particular graduation day is marked
• 9:21
Speaker 3: on the calendar for some time. But though to the
• 9:24
Speaker 3: parents or grandparents or guardians that may be listening to
• 9:28
Speaker 3: that has a son or daughter that's thinking about what
• 9:31
Speaker 3: they're going to do post high school? Why should they
• 9:33
Speaker 3: consider Bridge Valley? And I know you have people of
• 9:36
Speaker 3: all ages. I get that, but I almost focus on these
• 9:37
Speaker 3: folks now, these young people, why should they take a
• 9:40
Speaker 3: look at Bridge Valley?
• 9:41
Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, Well, so they can stay close to home.
• 9:44
Speaker 6: It's incredibly affordable. We are directly preparing folks for jobs,
• 9:48
Speaker 6: and so we really think a lot about what are
• 9:50
Speaker 6: the jobs that exist here in the valley. So if
• 9:52
Speaker 6: you want to be able to live here in a
• 9:54
Speaker 6: place that you love and be with people who you love,
• 9:57
Speaker 6: this is exactly the perfect location.
• 9:59
Speaker 3: All right, again, of folks, to the website for more information.

• 10:07
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, Thanks dave A. To Casey Sachs, Bridge Valley.
• 10:11
Speaker 3: It is nine seventeen. Do you remember back when you
• 10:15
Speaker 3: were in high school, and I don't remember when it
• 10:18
Speaker 3: was what the exact date was that I graduated, but
• 10:21
Speaker 3: I probably had it on a calendar circled somewhere about
• 10:25
Speaker 3: I don't know by the time I was in like
• 10:26
Speaker 3: seventh or eighth grade. Probably had that particular date my graduation,
• 10:30
Speaker 3: just I don't know why. I just happened to think
• 10:32
Speaker 3: about this. We graduated class of eighty eight Logan High School,
• 10:36
Speaker 3: nineteen eighty eight. Let me see, so I would have
• 10:39
Speaker 3: probably I think we graduated in the morning, Probably went
• 10:43
Speaker 3: to Morrison's Drive in, got a hot dog or three,
• 10:46
Speaker 3: and then went on the air in radio. That was
• 10:48
Speaker 3: That was my graduation trip. Was was to my job
• 10:52
Speaker 3: at the now now deceased WLOG Radio, which was to
• 10:56
  Speaker 3: no fault.
• 10:57

Speaker 3: later on TJ. Meadows and Dave Wilson Metro News talk
• 14:27
Speaker 3: Line Live from the Capital ten oh six this morning.
• 14:30
Speaker 3: We will check in with them a little bit before
• 14:33
Speaker 3: ten o'clock or so if they're schedule azed. So guys
• 14:35
Speaker 3: are busy running around getting interviews, so normally they they'll
• 14:38
Speaker 3: make time for me. That's coming up a little bit
• 14:40
Speaker 3: later on. Also, Fred Persinger, the voice of high school
• 14:42
Speaker 3: sports in West Virginia, will stop by to talk about
• 14:44
Speaker 3: this reclassification that and imagine this, imagine that Fred's got opinions,
• 14:50
Speaker 3: Fred's got opinions about it. We'll talk to Fred about
• 14:52
Speaker 3: that a little bit later on. It's National Library Week
• 14:55
Speaker 3: across America, and I focused a little on this during
• 14:58
Speaker 3: the midday show yesterday, but I want to bring a
• 14:59
Speaker 3: little closer to home speaking with Megan Tarbet, who is
• 15:03
Speaker 3: the director of the Putnam County Library System. She joins
• 15:05
Speaker 3: us this morning in the Jerra Construction studios. Meghan, welcome
• 15:08
  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 15:09
Speaker 12: Good morning everyone, Happy National Library Week.
• 15:11
Speaker 3: National Library Week. Is there cake sash or anything?
• 15:15
Speaker 12: No, but there are books.
• 15:16
Speaker 3: There are books, and there are a lot of but
• 15:18
Speaker 3: it's a lot more than just books, as we learned
• 15:21
Speaker 3: on the Metro News midday show yet but yesterday. But
• 15:24
Speaker 3: before we get to that, I want to talk about
• 15:25
Speaker 3: the locations for the libraries and Putnam County. Where are they?
• 15:28
  Speaker 13: Sure?
• 15:29
Speaker 12: We have five locations. So the main library is just
• 15:31
Speaker 12: past Liberty Square, So in Tays Valley right there, we
• 15:35
Speaker 12: have a branch by the Hurricane Middle School. And then
• 15:37
Speaker 12: in North Putnam we have branches in Buffalo, Eleanor, and Poka.
• 15:41
Speaker 12: And we also now have a mobile unit that goes
• 15:43
Speaker 12: out to community events that can come out to communities
• 15:47
Speaker 12: just themselves if they want to give us a call
• 15:49
Speaker 12: if they're having like a block party or something, and
• 15:51
Speaker 12: so we'll bring the library to you as well as
• 15:53
Speaker 12: you coming to us well.
• 15:54
  Speaker 3: And I think that's really interesting because I mean I
• 15:56
Speaker 3: go to a lot of events, you know, being in
• 15:57
Speaker 3: Putnam County, and I see you at the events in
• 16:00
Speaker 3: Hurricane and Winfield. I mean, you guys are just you
• 16:03
Speaker 3: guys just show up and spread the good news of libraries, right.
• 16:06
Speaker 12: We do, And we are even expanding some programming into
• 16:09
Speaker 12: Winfield that doesn't have a physical library location, so we
• 16:11
Speaker 12: take the mobile library over and we do some programs.
• 16:13
Speaker 12: In the summer, we do our program that we call
• 16:16
Speaker 12: Baby Show Choir. It's a story time without the stories.
• 16:18
Speaker 12: We just sing and dance. But we do it over
• 16:20
Speaker 12: in Winfield at the pavilion by the boat launch, and
• 16:23
Speaker 12: it's so pretty over there. So we're trying to hit
• 16:25
Speaker 12: everybody where they are and not expecting everyone to come
• 16:28
Speaker 12: to us, but you know, we're trying to also take
• 16:30
Speaker 12: it out to everybody.
• 16:31
Speaker 3: Oddly enough, you've never asked me to be a part
• 16:34
Speaker 3: of the singing and dancing.
• 16:36
  Speaker 12: You're welcome anytime.
• 16:37
Speaker 3: Are you sure about that? Really? Really, really? You hit
• 16:41
Speaker 3: on this at the top and again we're talking to
• 16:43
Speaker 3: Megan Tarbet from the Putnam County Library System about the
• 16:45
Speaker 3: services that are offered. I mean, you know, automatically people
• 16:49
Speaker 3: think books, but there's a whole lot more to it
• 16:51
  Speaker 3: than that.
• 16:52
Speaker 12: Goodness, yes, we like to say that we are there
• 16:55
Speaker 12: to help you with the business of life. A lot
• 16:57
Speaker 12: of our branches, especially like our Buffalo Brain, we see
• 17:00
Speaker 12: a lot of people who need notaries, who need things printed.
• 17:03
Speaker 12: They don't have printers at home, they don't have internet
• 17:05
Speaker 12: at home, so they come to the library. We help
• 17:07
Speaker 12: them out, you know, we help them get things, like
• 17:10
Speaker 12: I said, their emails printed if they need it. You know,
• 17:12
Speaker 12: all my full time staff members are notaries, and we
• 17:15
Speaker 12: tried to guarantee that even in the evening hours at
• 17:17
Speaker 12: the main library and on Saturdays. I mean, we tried
• 17:20
Speaker 12: to do, you know, as much as we can, as
• 17:23
Speaker 12: well as the books, and our biggest priority is programming.
• 17:28
Speaker 12: So we schedule about a little less than five hundred
• 17:32
Speaker 12: programs a year for the five branches.
• 17:33
Speaker 3: So that's to show those programs.
• 17:36
Speaker 12: We have a story time like four days a week,
• 17:42
Speaker 12: but in five all five locations, so everyone for the
• 17:46
Speaker 12: pre k and then we do some adult programming. Like
• 17:49
Speaker 12: last Saturday, one of our Putnam County Master Gardeners came
• 17:53
Speaker 12: in to do a cooking demo of a plant you
• 17:56
Speaker 12: can grow from our seed library. Every branch of the
• 17:58
Speaker 12: Putnam County Library is a seed libraries who come check
• 18:01
Speaker 12: out the seeds. I'm quoting. You can't see me because
• 18:03
Speaker 12: I'm on radio. Quote borrow the seeds.
• 18:06
Speaker 3: We do have cameras in it, but they're not on yet,
• 18:08
Speaker 3: but they will be okay.
• 18:09
Speaker 12: And then if you grow something and it produces the seed.
• 18:12
Speaker 12: At the end, you can bring it back in and
• 18:13
Speaker 12: we can put it back into the seed library, or
• 18:16
Speaker 12: you can just kind of take things to grow as well.
• 18:17
Speaker 3: So and again some of the other things that offered it,
• 18:21
Speaker 3: I mean not just and I know you're here for
• 18:24
Speaker 3: Putnam Can libraries, but we have great libraries here in
• 18:26
Speaker 3: kannag County as well, and friends that's throughout said. Yeah,
• 18:30
Speaker 3: everybody works together. I mean, you'd be surprised the things
• 18:33
Speaker 3: that you can get from the library other than just books.
• 18:36
Speaker 12: Yeah, and you know, we are geocash station, so we
• 18:39
Speaker 12: still see people come in looking for the clues. At
• 18:42
Speaker 12: one point we had a geocash kit to check out.
• 18:45
Speaker 12: We have a limited amount, but we do have mobile hotspots,
• 18:48
Speaker 12: so if you're traveling to a place where you know
• 18:51
Speaker 12: you might need internet that isn't provided, you can come
• 18:54
Speaker 12: borrow a hotspot. If you're in the library itself. You know,
• 18:57
Speaker 12: there are public access computers in our computer lab. We
• 19:00
Speaker 12: have laptops we can loan you while you're in the libraries,
• 19:02
Speaker 12: so you can go to a quiet corner and type
• 19:04
Speaker 12: up something if you need use the Wi Fi. Not
• 19:08
Speaker 12: no institution can be everything to everyone. But the library
• 19:11
  Speaker 12: sure tries you.
• 19:12
Speaker 3: We're talking with Megan Charbit from the Putnam County Library
• 19:15
Speaker 3: System and the one in Charleston. Of course, you know
• 19:17
Speaker 3: you can get tools and everything from there. Yeah, and
• 19:19
Speaker 3: I know there's several that they followed that same model,
• 19:21
Speaker 3: and plus they're great places to have meetings as well.
• 19:24
Speaker 12: They are you know, we see a lot of hoas
• 19:27
Speaker 12: on Saturdays at the Putnam County Library. You know, we
• 19:29
Speaker 12: see a lot of tutors in the evening, So we
• 19:32
Speaker 12: love having the kids in and helping them with homework
• 19:35
Speaker 12: and everything like that. It's just it's it can be
• 19:39
Speaker 12: an exciting place to be. It's not always quiet.
• 19:42
Speaker 3: That's one of the things.
• 19:43
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: You see these stereotypes of the library or whatever. That's
• 19:48
Speaker 3: not the case in your places.
• 19:50
Speaker 12: Definitely not. I'm usually the loudest person in any room.
• 19:52
Speaker 12: We know that. But we want people to have fun.
• 19:56
  Speaker 12: You know, it's it's not a museum. It's not a
• 19:58
  Speaker 12: mausoleum of books.
• 20:00
Speaker 3: There are that's a good way to put it.
• 20:01
Speaker 12: Yeah, there are quiet times, there are study times, but
• 20:03
Speaker 12: also you know, we want joy in there too. So
• 20:06
Speaker 12: after a story time, the last thing we have them
• 20:08
Speaker 12: do is like say their ABC's as loud as they can,
• 20:11
Speaker 12: and they get so excited about you know, just kind
• 20:14
Speaker 12: of letting it loose. So you know, thirty toddlers just
• 20:17
Speaker 12: screaming their ABC's and there's nothing quite like it but.
• 20:21
Speaker 3: Day Vilance showing five any life presented apart by your
• 20:23

• 20:29

Speaker 3: and Sundays, or Family Fun Days kids twelve and under
• 20:44
Speaker 3: get in for free. For more is the Dirtybirds Baseball
• 20:47
Speaker 3: dot Com talk about the changing role of libraries over
• 20:50
Speaker 3: the years, because in the Internet age, there would be
• 20:54
Speaker 3: those who may say, well, who the heck goes to
• 20:56
Speaker 3: a library anymore? Libraries, like everything else, have adapted and
• 21:01
Speaker 3: the things that you do, but a lot of people
• 21:03
Speaker 3: still use libraries for a lot of different things.
• 21:05
Speaker 12: They do and it may surprise people, but the books,
• 21:08
Speaker 12: the physical books are still what goes out the most.
• 21:11
Speaker 12: We have, you know, users of our digital libraries, so
• 21:14
Speaker 12: you can come in, get a card, never come in
• 21:16
Speaker 12: ever again. But you know, you can get your books
• 21:18
Speaker 12: to your phone, to your tablets. But we we've adapted
• 21:22
Speaker 12: to also being you know, like we mentioned that that
• 21:25
Speaker 12: tech help because we don't want anyone left behind and
• 21:28
Speaker 12: what we call like the digital divide, right, so you know,
• 21:30
Speaker 12: people who can access devices are a step ahead of
• 21:33
Speaker 12: everyone else. So you know, we do computer classes. You know,
• 21:37
Speaker 12: if someone comes in with a problem. We've had people
• 21:39
Speaker 12: come in with a new device, like a new iPhone,
• 21:42
Speaker 12: a new iPad, like maybe someone's son, you know, brought
• 21:45
Speaker 12: bought it to them for Christmas, and they don't know
• 21:47
Speaker 12: how to start it. So we'll sit down with them
• 21:49
Speaker 12: and there's no time limit and we'll walk them through
• 21:52
Speaker 12: absolutely everything. So as I said, you know, we can't
• 21:56
Speaker 12: be everything to everyone, but we give it a good go.
• 21:59
  Speaker 3: I mean, there's I mean, and I know I'm a
• 22:01
Speaker 3: little bit partial to you guys because that's that's where
• 22:04
Speaker 3: I live and I've known you for a number of years.
• 22:06
Speaker 3: But it is amazing. You know what what and the
• 22:10
Speaker 3: things that people will come in and ask for help with,
• 22:12
Speaker 3: and you guys, always try your best. And if you
• 22:15
Speaker 3: don't know, you'll find somebody that knows right.
• 22:17
Speaker 12: And and that is the key to a good library.
• 22:20
Speaker 12: We don't have all the answers, but we will help
• 22:21
Speaker 12: you track them down. And in an age where there's
• 22:24
Speaker 12: almost too much information, uh, you know, we can help
• 22:27
Speaker 12: you parse out what's good information, what's what's not. You know,
• 22:31
Speaker 12: we want everyone to kind of like look at their sources,
• 22:34
Speaker 12: you know, just just like in news. You know, you
• 22:36
Speaker 12: want a broad base of information, but you also want
• 22:40
Speaker 12: to know how to evaluate that. So you know, we
• 22:42
Speaker 12: help people with those kind of skills as well.
• 22:46
Speaker 3: We would you say to to parents maybe that think, well,
• 22:50
Speaker 3: you know, all this information that my kid needs is
• 22:54
Speaker 3: available on their on their device. We can get another
• 22:56
Speaker 3: their tablet, we can get it on their phone. What
• 22:58
Speaker 3: would you what would your advice be to pair? It's
• 23:00
Speaker 3: about bringing kids up in the library.
• 23:02
Speaker 12: System, sure, especially for the very very young. The more
• 23:06
Speaker 12: words they hear, the better they're going to do in school.
• 23:09
Speaker 12: You know, there are studies that show you know, if
• 23:12
Speaker 12: you if you don't say like a million plus words
• 23:16
Speaker 12: to a kid. Before they hit kindergarten, they're already vastly behind.
• 23:19
Speaker 12: So story times, you know, even if they're wiggly, even
• 23:23
Speaker 12: if they're not sitting still, it's sinking in. It also
• 23:27
Speaker 12: teaches them early how to socialize with other kids, so
• 23:31
Speaker 12: that by the time they get to preschool, it's not
• 23:33
  Speaker 12: a you know, it's it's not a shock. You know,
• 23:35
Speaker 12: they've been around kids, They've you know, kind of learned
• 23:38
Speaker 12: how to interact, and that's and that it's good for
• 23:40
Speaker 12: the parents as well. You know, sometimes the moms and
• 23:44
Speaker 12: dads of storytime are more excited to see their friends
• 23:46
Speaker 12: than the kids are.
• 23:48
Speaker 3: Yeah. Indeed, we're talking to Megan Charbet for the put
• 23:51
Speaker 3: Newcanna Library System. Text says Putnam County Library rocks.
• 23:54
  Speaker 14: Nice.
• 23:55
Speaker 3: So you got a fan. Excellent, you got a fan.
• 23:57
  Speaker 7: I appreciate it.
• 23:57
Speaker 3: I want to ask you something, and I know when
• 24:00
Speaker 3: not going to turn this political in any way. So
• 24:04
Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna go about this kind
• 24:06
Speaker 3: of kind of lightly. I'm not gonna get you fired
• 24:08
Speaker 3: or anyway. You're the boss, you can do what you want.
• 24:10
Speaker 3: But there has been over the last few years, there's
• 24:14
Speaker 3: been some concerns about libraries and many people that how
• 24:22
Speaker 3: can I say this, There are there are many people
• 24:24
Speaker 3: that think there's been an assault on learning and things
• 24:28
Speaker 3: of that nature, but by maybe well intentioned people who
• 24:33
Speaker 3: who think they're doing the right thing, but maybe they're not.
• 24:35
Speaker 3: How have you been how have you been able to
• 24:38
Speaker 3: kind of walk that fine line between because we've heard
• 24:41
Speaker 3: about book bannings and things that, how have you been
• 24:43
Speaker 3: able to walk that? And I don't want to get
• 24:45
Speaker 3: you in trouble here, but how have you been able
• 24:47
Speaker 3: to walk that that that fine line? And are you
• 24:49
Speaker 3: concerned about that on a on a daily basis?
• 24:52
Speaker 12: Sure? We you know, we have a collection development policy.
• 24:54
Speaker 12: You know, it doesn't tell us what to order, but
• 24:56
Speaker 12: it kind of gives us the scope of of how
• 24:58
Speaker 12: we order what we're looking for, h you know, to
• 25:00
Speaker 12: bring balance to a collection. And at our five locations,
• 25:04
Speaker 12: each branch manager orders the books for themselves. It's not
• 25:08
Speaker 12: like a big central order from the main library. So
• 25:10
Speaker 12: you know, we we buy the best sellers. You know,
• 25:12
Speaker 12: there are recommended lists, but we evaluate those. It's not
• 25:15
Speaker 12: an automatic buy. And as I said, like each library
• 25:19
Speaker 12: has a different flavor of patrons. Like at the main library,
• 25:22
Speaker 12: everyone loves mysteries, so we may you know, that may
• 25:24
Speaker 12: be the genre we buy more. But at Eleanor you know,
• 25:28
Speaker 12: they like the inspirational love stories, so they buy more
• 25:31
Speaker 12: of those. So that helps not having one person kind
• 25:34
Speaker 12: of buy everything. So you know, we're not just kind
• 25:36
Speaker 12: of focused on that one person's opinions. But we also
• 25:40
Speaker 12: are very aware of, you know, like I said, trying
• 25:42
Speaker 12: to keep balance to the collection. You know, if someone
• 25:45
Speaker 12: has a concern about a book, we have a process
• 25:48
Speaker 12: for that, and we have forever. You know, you can
• 25:51
Speaker 12: fill out a form, we can evaluate it, and there
• 25:54
Speaker 12: are you know, options of things we can do. You know,
• 25:57
Speaker 12: we can take a look at it. We can you know,
• 25:59
Speaker 12: choose to move it, remove it completely, or leave it
• 26:04
Speaker 12: be if it is actually where it needs to be.
• 26:06
Speaker 12: Because we're not going to always get things right. You know,
• 26:09
Speaker 12: there's a tricky kind of age switch between like twelve
• 26:13
Speaker 12: and fifteen that sometimes the books end up back in
• 26:16
Speaker 12: the kids department. Sometimes they're moved up to teen. So
• 26:20
Speaker 12: nothing is static. You know, we're absolutely welcome to conversations
• 26:25
Speaker 12: like that, but we do also believe that everyone has
• 26:28
Speaker 12: the right to choose what they read, and they can't
• 26:31
Speaker 12: choose for the next person.
• 26:33
Speaker 3: May g it tar, But it's always a pleasure to
• 26:35
Speaker 3: have you on the show. You guys are doing great
• 26:36
Speaker 3: things over there Putnam County with library system as are
• 26:39
Speaker 3: I had on the midday show. I had the director
• 26:41
Speaker 3: of the Marion County System with Amanda and me yesterday
• 26:44
Speaker 3: on the show. Also some great things going on in
• 26:46
Speaker 3: the libraries, and I think people again to take away
• 26:49
Speaker 3: should be that your library has not become the model
• 26:52
Speaker 3: t you know, it's not going away, and it's not
• 26:54
Speaker 3: going away anytime soon, and there's a lot of good
• 26:56
Speaker 3: things going on there. Give us your website for more information.
• 26:59
Speaker 12: Sure Putnam librarywv dot org.

Speaker 3: Today Texas Dave put all the information out there regarding
• 30:39
Speaker 3: banning inappropriate materials and libraries. It's for school libraries only.
• 30:44
Speaker 3: It has nothing to do with public libraries, bookstores, et cetera. Well,
• 30:47
Speaker 3: I would agree with that to a certain extent. But
• 30:50
Speaker 3: I can tell you that and Megan and I were
• 30:54
Speaker 3: having this conversation off the air, and she's seen it
• 30:57
Speaker 3: in her own library system frequently. What happens is people
• 31:01
Speaker 3: that aren't normal, aren't everyday regular users of libraries, printing
• 31:05
Speaker 3: something off the Internet, getting it from a political action
• 31:08
Speaker 3: committee or whatever, and coming in and looking for those
• 31:12
Speaker 3: items in a public library, shaking their fist because this
• 31:16
Speaker 3: has actually happened locally, coming in and saying we want
• 31:20
Speaker 3: these things off the shelves. Whereas if you did not
• 31:22
Speaker 3: get that information, if you weren't provided that information, you
• 31:28
Speaker 3: would never know they were there to begin with. So
• 31:30
Speaker 3: that's kind of where we were going to. But I
• 31:32
Speaker 3: do appreciate the Texter Red Persinger, the voice of high
• 31:38
Speaker 3: school sports in West Virginia, is here. How are you
• 31:41
Speaker 3: man I'm well, sir, how are you? I am doing
• 31:43
Speaker 3: learning anything? In my interview with Megan from the Library.
• 31:45
Speaker 5: System, I learned that that last statement that you just
• 31:50
Speaker 5: made is so very very true about people complaining about
• 31:54
Speaker 5: things that they didn't even know were there until somebody
• 31:57
Speaker 5: it doesn't affect them at all, not at all, So
• 32:00
  Speaker 5: you know.
• 32:00
  Speaker 7: All right.
• 32:01
Speaker 3: So announcement came down Frederick yesterday. Greg Carey writes about
• 32:05
Speaker 3: it wv metronews dot com. The Board of Control, which
• 32:08
Speaker 3: is one of the more ominous sounding names of a
• 32:11
Speaker 3: board in the English language, the Board of Control of
• 32:14
Speaker 3: the West Virginia SSAC unanimously approved a proposal yesterday for
• 32:19
Speaker 3: high schools to be classified based on total enrollment figures
• 32:23
Speaker 3: of grades nine through twelve based on the enrollment figures
• 32:25
Speaker 3: from the state Department of Education. The vote was one
• 32:27
Speaker 3: fifty to nothing nor nil, as they say in the world,
• 32:30
Speaker 3: is soccer and the board is made up of high
• 32:32
Speaker 3: school and middle school principles from across the state. So
• 32:35
Speaker 3: we talked about it on the Metro News midday show yesterday.
• 32:38
Speaker 3: Break that all down for us. Why were they talking
• 32:41
Speaker 3: about this? Just tell us your story.
• 32:44
Speaker 5: Fred No one was happy, okay, and you know, I
• 32:49
Speaker 5: could see why, particularly in Quada, and this is mostly
• 32:53
Speaker 5: about football. For the first time last year they used
• 32:57
Speaker 5: four classes. And you know, I've said it many many times,
• 33:00
Speaker 5: I am not a fan of four classes in West Virginia.
• 33:02
Speaker 5: I just don't think the state is large enough. I
• 33:05
Speaker 5: think we stretch it, to be honest with you, when
• 33:07
Speaker 5: we go to three classes. But three classes to me
• 33:10
Speaker 5: works okay. But so they went to four classes in
• 33:13
Speaker 5: football for the first time, and in Quada, the biggest
• 33:16
Speaker 5: classification of schools ended up with sixteen teams. Well, sixteen
• 33:21
Speaker 5: teams make the playoffs, so hey, what the heck? You know,
• 33:25
Speaker 5: it didn't make any of it was what you did
• 33:26
Speaker 5: in the regular season other than seating that. That's what happened.
• 33:30
Speaker 5: So they had to do something. The Board of Control
• 33:34
Speaker 5: again that you love so much, got.
• 33:36
Speaker 4: Together the Bard of Control.
• 33:38
Speaker 5: Now this is an early meeting. They don't normally meet
• 33:41
Speaker 5: in early April, but they did for this particular reason
• 33:44
Speaker 5: because they want this new classification standard to go into
• 33:48
Speaker 5: effect this coming fall. Okay, and it will and it'll
• 33:53
Speaker 5: be in effect for two years. But they came my
• 33:57
Speaker 5: way with not using the Socio econ or close to
• 34:01
Speaker 5: a hub of a big city or anything. And these
• 34:05
Speaker 5: went totally as far as enrollment goes right, which is
• 34:08
Speaker 5: to me, the best way to do it. I'm still
• 34:09
Speaker 5: not a fan of as far as football goes, using
• 34:13
Speaker 5: every student in the school for football classifications, because let's
• 34:17
Speaker 5: be fair, they don't play.
• 34:19
Speaker 7: They don't play. Girls don't play football.
• 34:21
Speaker 5: You may have a kicker every now and then, but
• 34:22
Speaker 5: for the most part, girls don't play high school football.
• 34:25
Speaker 5: So I've always said, let's just count the boys and
• 34:28
Speaker 5: see where you land. But that's fell on deaf ears,
• 34:31
Speaker 5: like a lot of my suggestions. I don't know why
• 34:34
Speaker 5: that is, Dave, but that's the way it is. So
• 34:36
Speaker 5: they came up with the deal where if you have
• 34:38
Speaker 5: an enrollment of one thousand and fifty or more, you're
• 34:42
Speaker 5: in Class Quada. That will encompass twenty schools this year.
• 34:47
Speaker 5: An enrollment of six twenty five to one thousand and
• 34:51
Speaker 5: forty nine that's Class TRIPLEA. That will be twenty nine schools.
• 34:55
Speaker 5: That enrollment of three hundred and fifty one to six
• 34:58
Speaker 5: twenty four that'll be Class double that's thirty one schools.
• 35:02
Speaker 5: And the remaining number of schools will be in Single
• 35:05
Speaker 5: A that's within an enrollment of three hundred and fifty
• 35:08
Speaker 5: or less, that's thirty nine schools. Now, that's one hundred
• 35:12
Speaker 5: and nineteen high schools. However, only one hundred and eleven
• 35:16
Speaker 5: play football, so and most of those are in single A.
• 35:20
Speaker 5: So you can take eight or so out and it's
• 35:23
Speaker 5: relatively close percentage wise as to the number of teams
• 35:27
Speaker 5: in double A, triple A, and single A. Quade is
• 35:31
Speaker 5: still only twenty. But you know that's better than sixteen.
• 35:35
  Speaker 7: Okay.
• 35:36
Speaker 5: Now, I had some folks I've my wife loves me
• 35:41
Speaker 5: for a lot of reasons. Yeah, last night phones are
• 35:45
Speaker 5: ringing and people wanting to talk. Well, that's not fair
• 35:48
Speaker 5: if they put it in effect this year, because my
• 35:51
Speaker 5: schedule doesn't have at least six teams in whatever division
• 35:56
Speaker 5: I now they've waived that. That doesn't make any difference.
• 35:59
Speaker 5: You could play all single if you want the dominatios
• 36:01
Speaker 5: support this year. Okay, So it gives you time to
• 36:04
Speaker 5: set your schedule. Now, this used to be classifications were
• 36:08
Speaker 5: for four years. They've backed it down to two years
• 36:11
Speaker 5: and see how enrollment changes. Interesting to note that they
• 36:15
Speaker 5: were only in the top twenty teams. Biggest enrollment in
• 36:19
Speaker 5: the Quada only four teams gained enrollment from last year Martinsburg, Jefferson, Washington,
• 36:31
Speaker 5: All Eastern Panish and Beckley. But back the only game
• 36:34
Speaker 5: like five students. I think the number was So is
• 36:39
Speaker 5: this better than it was?
• 36:40
  Speaker 7: Yes?
• 36:42
  Speaker 5: I don't think you're ever going to have a situation
• 36:44
Speaker 5: where it's, wow, this is perfect.
• 36:46
Speaker 3: Where everybody's on board and everybody says this is what we.
• 36:48
Speaker 5: Want, because I guarantee you the school that has one
• 36:54
Speaker 5: less or one more student and that would put them
• 36:57
Speaker 5: in a lower class. They're not happy, but they've never
• 36:59
Speaker 5: been happy with this. The only thing that I know
• 37:01
Speaker 5: that's going to be unhappy or the class single A
• 37:04
Speaker 5: schools where all the private schools. Charleston Catholic went back
• 37:08
  Speaker 5: from a double A to a single A, Wheeling Central
• 37:11
Speaker 5: Catholic that won the basketball championships this year they went
• 37:14
  Speaker 5: back from a double A to a single A. So
• 37:17
Speaker 5: they're not happy about that. I promise you that. But
• 37:19
Speaker 5: they also put into this that I was told last night,
• 37:23
Speaker 5: there's no appeals. This is the way it's going to be.
• 37:26
Speaker 5: You can't appeal. That's why I think it went one
• 37:28
Speaker 5: hundred and fifty to nothing. That is what they can't well,
• 37:31
Speaker 5: is that because the people didn't want it to end up?
• 37:33
Speaker 5: I mean we saw it in high school playoffs when
• 37:36
Speaker 5: and you I had you on the air for several
• 37:38
Speaker 5: days in a row to kind of update us with
• 37:40
Speaker 5: what was going on there is the game should be
• 37:42
Speaker 5: played on the gridiron and not in the court room. Yeah,
• 37:44
Speaker 5: in fact, it cost us a week. Well you had
• 37:46
Speaker 5: to put sure everything a week, you know, and then
• 37:48
Speaker 5: you have to start thinking about you know, the city
• 37:50
  Speaker 5: of Charleston that.
• 37:51
Speaker 7: Had everything ready to go, well, we're not going to
• 37:53
  Speaker 7: go now.
• 37:53
Speaker 5: Their first year back, Yeah, exactly, they loved it, I
• 37:56
Speaker 5: guarantee you. So the appeals are out. This is the
• 37:59
Speaker 5: way it's going to be. Now this thing still has
• 38:01
Speaker 5: to go. And for a somebody says sixty days. I
• 38:07
Speaker 5: thought it was thirty. Maybe it is sixty days for
• 38:09
Speaker 5: public opinion, but it's sixty days, and then has to
• 38:13
Speaker 5: set in the Secretary of State's office.
• 38:15
  Speaker 7: For thirty days.
• 38:17
Speaker 5: And now you're getting down to where you're close, and
• 38:18
Speaker 5: the Board of Education will approve it.
• 38:21
Speaker 7: They will approve it.
• 38:22
Speaker 5: Since it was pasted one hundred and fifty to nothing,
• 38:24
Speaker 5: they will approve it and it'll go in effect come
• 38:26
Speaker 5: August of twenty twenty five this year.
• 38:29
Speaker 3: A couple of questions for you. I saw somebody on
• 38:32
Speaker 3: the artist formally known as Twitter who said that, and
• 38:36
Speaker 3: there's a lot of people that go along with this.
• 38:39
Speaker 3: Is that a lot of these private schools you mentioned
• 38:41
Speaker 3: to Charleston Catholic or Wheeling Central, you know, some of
• 38:44
Speaker 3: these schools they should all be in one class together,
• 38:48
Speaker 3: just them. Where are you on that?
• 38:50
Speaker 7: No, it used to be.
• 38:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, it was the they had the Catholic Schools State
• 38:56
Speaker 5: Tournament several years ago, and then they became a part
• 38:59
Speaker 5: of the SSA. See and no, I disagree one hundred percent.
• 39:04
Speaker 5: And let's be fair here now with the legislation, legislature
• 39:09
Speaker 5: getting involved in a couple of years ago. You can
• 39:11
Speaker 5: go recruit too. They always say the private schools recruit.
• 39:16
Speaker 5: Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I you know, I
• 39:19
Speaker 5: don't know. I've not been privy to any of that.
• 39:22
Speaker 5: But again, if they do, they do. But you can
• 39:24
Speaker 5: to coach you and it happens all the time. It happens.
• 39:28
Speaker 7: You can you want.
• 39:29
Speaker 5: You see some kid out there, Hey, come over to
• 39:32
Speaker 5: my school because uh, we've got a better this than that,
• 39:35
Speaker 5: or whatever the case may be. You see, you can't
• 39:36
Speaker 5: do that at all in the public school situation.
• 39:39
Speaker 7: Now, you weren't supposed.
• 39:41
Speaker 3: You weren't supposed to do that. Let's let's remember where
• 39:44
Speaker 3: I'm from, Fred, Okay, and I'll just leave it at that.
• 39:47
Speaker 7: Yeah, but evidently they didn't do that great job of well.
• 39:51
Speaker 3: We invented it now, all right, So let me let
• 39:54
Speaker 3: me ask you this, what about our area schools, I
• 39:56
Speaker 3: mean people here in the Canal Valley. H just give
• 39:58
Speaker 3: me an example of what this would mean for schools
• 40:01
Speaker 3: in the in the valley, the homeschools here in the valley.
• 40:04
  Speaker 3: Any changes?
• 40:04
Speaker 5: Not really, I mean, you know, I mean you didn't
• 40:07
Speaker 5: mention Charleston Catholic, Right, well, Charleston Catholic went from double
• 40:10
Speaker 5: A to single A U and Wheeling Central from double
• 40:13
  Speaker 5: A to single A. Capital was in triple A. There's
• 40:16
Speaker 5: going to stay in triple A. It's uh, you know,
• 40:20
Speaker 5: it's not not really any changes from what it was
• 40:24
Speaker 5: last year as far as the local schools here in
• 40:26
  Speaker 5: the valley.
• 40:27
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, not really?
• 40:29
  Speaker 7: All right?
• 40:30
Speaker 3: Well, Fred, we got an in depth story about it
• 40:32
Speaker 3: posted on the website.
• 40:33
Speaker 5: I sent him to the story yesterday, and I guess
• 40:36
Speaker 5: within like five minutes he had it on yet it posted,
• 40:39
Speaker 5: so and that is directly from the S s a C.
• 40:42
Speaker 5: That's not guys just getting their thoughts and putting it
• 40:45
Speaker 5: out there. That was a release from the S S
• 40:47
Speaker 5: a C that Greg put together.
• 40:49
Speaker 3: All right, it's vailable wv Metronews dot com. Fred, I
• 40:51
Speaker 3: appreciate as always you coming in here.
• 40:54
  Speaker 1: An.
• 40:55
Speaker 5: It's always fun to see you and Ryan and yeah,
• 40:58
  Speaker 5: just it's a fun time.
• 40:59
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, we kind of like it. It's nice studios, Yeah, yeah,
• 41:02
Speaker 3: it is. It's really cool.
• 41:03
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 41:03
Speaker 7: Now I don't have to be back for mentoring news midday.
• 41:06
Speaker 3: Do No, you're done. You're done for the day. I say,
• 41:08
Speaker 3: unless something happens between now and then.
• 41:10
Speaker 7: And it might, yeah, it might.
• 41:12
Speaker 5: But again I think again, Dave, this is as good
• 41:16
Speaker 5: as it's going to get for a while, I do believe.
• 41:18
Speaker 5: So let's just go with it and let's play ball
• 41:21
  Speaker 5: in August.
• 41:23
Speaker 3: Hopefully playball and keep the courts out of it.
• 41:25
Speaker 7: I think you will think, Okay, all right.
• 41:27
Speaker 3: The voice of high school sports in West Virginia, Fred Persinger,
• 41:29
Speaker 3: I appreciate you joining us, man, thanks a lot, thanks
• 41:31
Speaker 3: a and a lot. Let me see, let me not
• 41:34
Speaker 3: I got a couple of texts here, because they do
• 41:35
Speaker 3: have a couple of texts totally unrelated to this. Somebody
• 41:37
Speaker 3: sent me in an article from the Wall Street Journal,
• 41:39
Speaker 3: which I've read this, I do appreciate it about the
• 41:41
Speaker 3: dollar confidence crisis is here. Uh and yeah, and they
• 41:46
Speaker 3: just referred to it as happy time. So yeah, I'll
• 41:48
Speaker 3: try to get into that a little bit a little
• 41:49
Speaker 3: bit later on. Do you want to remind you of

Speaker 3: that story and maybe get into that a little bit
• 46:00
Speaker 3: later on. So on to Trump. Chris Lawrence with the
• 46:03
Speaker 3: lead story this morning, WV Metronews dot com. Yesterday, the President,
• 46:08
Speaker 3: surrounded by coal miners, many from West Virginia, signed a
• 46:10
Speaker 3: series of executive orders calling for the increased use of
• 46:14
Speaker 3: fossil fuels, including coal now. One of the announced plans
• 46:18
Speaker 3: would delay a large number of both coal and nuclear
• 46:21
Speaker 3: plants that were set to be retired this year. Chris
• 46:24
Speaker 3: Hamilton of the Coal Association says in the story there
• 46:27
Speaker 3: are around forty two plants set to be closed this year.
• 46:31
Speaker 3: He says, we may see those plants ordered to stay open.
• 46:35
Speaker 3: The second order would authorize the leasing of mining rights
• 46:39
Speaker 3: on federal lands and to designate coal as a quote
• 46:42
Speaker 3: unquote critical material. He has authorized the Justice Department to
• 46:47
Speaker 3: go after states with anti coal policies and to work
• 46:52
Speaker 3: to reverse those policies on constitutional grounds. And I urge
• 46:57
Speaker 3: you again to go to the website and read Chris
• 46:59
Speaker 3: Lawrence's story very in depth, and many people let me
• 47:03
Speaker 3: get full disclosure here. I can't really be objective when
• 47:08
Speaker 3: it comes to coal, and I don't have to be
• 47:10
Speaker 3: because I'm not a journalist. Coal has been a very
• 47:14
Speaker 3: important part of my life. I mean, you know where
• 47:17
Speaker 3: I'm from. My father and my mother both employed in
• 47:21
Speaker 3: the coal industry. My wife's father a coal miner. Everything
• 47:27
Speaker 3: that I have in my life, somehow I owe to
• 47:31
Speaker 3: the coal industry. And I hope it's not too late
• 47:35
Speaker 3: for coal, but I fear it is. Coal mining jobs
• 47:40
Speaker 3: have been decreasing for some time now. The Obama administration
• 47:43
Speaker 3: followed by the Biden administration. They didn't kill the coal industry,
• 47:48
Speaker 3: but they didn't help by any strategy imagination. Coal carried
• 47:54
Speaker 3: this state for many, many years. It is worth noting
• 47:56
Speaker 3: know coal jobs actually went down under the trumpetmantration. First term.
• 48:01
Speaker 3: He was elected and supported by many coal miners and
• 48:05
Speaker 3: coal organizations based on the fact that he would bring
• 48:08
Speaker 3: the coal industry back and and has not as of yet.
• 48:13
Speaker 3: Maybe this time will be different. I hope I'm wrong,
• 48:17
Speaker 3: but market had a lot to do with that as well.
• 48:19
Speaker 3: But again, you'll you'll never hear anything coal negative coming
• 48:23
Speaker 3: out of this old boy's mouth.
• 48:25
  Speaker 4: Tex says Dave.
• 48:26
Speaker 3: President Trump has kept his promises to West Virginia and
• 48:28
Speaker 3: other states using common sense with his energy policies. Thank you,
• 48:32
Speaker 3: President Trump, says a texture Texas. Who's going to buy
• 48:38
Speaker 3: the coal that's mined China, the EU, India, all countries
• 48:43
Speaker 3: and more tariffs? That's a that's a legitimate question. All right,
• 48:53
Speaker 3: let's go to the capital and let's check in with
• 48:55
Speaker 3: Wilson and Meadows and see what's okay. They said they
• 48:59
Speaker 3: were there. They sent me a text and said they
• 49:00
Speaker 3: were there, so maybe maybe they lied. Somebody opened up
• 49:05
Speaker 3: a breakfast buffet. That's what happened. Wilson sent me a
• 49:08
Speaker 3: text about five minutes ago and said, okay, I'm here,
• 49:11
Speaker 3: he is there. Where was the breakfast buffet today, Sir.
• 49:14
Speaker 18: What breakfast buffet? I've been sitting here the headphones on,
• 49:16
Speaker 18: and I hear you in mid sentence say.
• 49:18
Speaker 8: Well, he was trying about breakfast buffet.
• 49:21
Speaker 3: I was saying, because you it was downstairs by it, Okay,
• 49:25
Speaker 3: I was gonna say. You sent me a text and
• 49:27
Speaker 3: said that you were there, and then when we got
• 49:29
Speaker 3: by and you weren't there, and so I said, well, hell,
• 49:31
Speaker 3: somebody's over here buffet.
• 49:33
  Speaker 4: I am here.
• 49:34
Speaker 18: I've been standing by patiently and eagerly awaiting. This is
• 49:38
Speaker 18: the highlight of my day day though.
• 49:40
  Speaker 3: I got it.
• 49:41
  Speaker 7: I got it.
• 49:41
Speaker 3: So uh, the hours they are counting down, sir, till
• 49:46
Speaker 3: till till twelve oh one Sunday morning slash Saturday night.
• 49:51
Speaker 3: What's on? What's under the dome today?
• 49:54
Speaker 18: Well that is a good question, Governor morrisesas top by
• 49:58
  Speaker 18: our set.
• 49:59
  Speaker 7: Hopefully here at.
• 49:59
Speaker 3: T oh we got We've got the first lady on
• 50:02
Speaker 3: Mitro his midday today. She'll be in studio today.
• 50:04
Speaker 7: So yeah, awesome, awesome, we got it all covered.
• 50:06
Speaker 18: Then I will talk to him about his micro grids
• 50:08
Speaker 18: bill that was in the in a Senate committee yesterday.
• 50:11
Speaker 18: Economic Development got out with some changes. We'll talk to
• 50:15
Speaker 18: him about that. Plus President Trump's executive orders about coal
• 50:19
Speaker 18: A couple of things. Keeping an eye on. The Senate
• 50:22
Speaker 18: has its budget bill up for third reading. That'll get
• 50:25
Speaker 18: laid over and they will work on the House budget
• 50:29
Speaker 18: bill and then become then the back and forth really
• 50:32
Speaker 18: gets underway to get that bill reconciled on both sides
• 50:36
Speaker 18: of the legislature down here a couple of I mean,
• 50:40
Speaker 18: there are some minor things that we're keeping in our
• 50:42
Speaker 18: eyes on as far as bills go. But I don't
• 50:46
Speaker 18: get a sense of a lot of tension down here
• 50:49
Speaker 18: at the legislature this year. As we come up on
• 50:51
Speaker 18: the Saturday night deadline, there will be things happening. Obviously,
• 50:54
Speaker 18: I trying to get some bills to the finish line.
• 50:57
Speaker 18: But the micro grids bill is the big one that
• 50:58
Speaker 18: we're keeping an eye on. Everything else is kind of
• 51:01
Speaker 18: either it's there or a dozen.
• 51:02
Speaker 3: Where's the DEI? Where is that?
• 51:04
  Speaker 2: Now?
• 51:06
Speaker 18: That's a good question that got that's over on the
• 51:08
  Speaker 18: House side.
• 51:09
  Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
• 51:11
Speaker 18: As a matter of fact, that is not one of
• 51:12
Speaker 18: the ones I was personally watching yesterday.
• 51:14
Speaker 3: I just know there was there was some interest, uh
• 51:17
Speaker 3: in that there's actually been a lot of interest in
• 51:18
Speaker 3: those three letters throughout this session, but I don't know
• 51:21
Speaker 3: that a whole heck of a lot has has been
• 51:24
Speaker 3: has been done on it. You're let me ask you
• 51:25
Speaker 3: your opinion of something, Okay, as well out the show
• 51:27
Speaker 3: your opinion. It's a President Trump, and you heard me
• 51:30
Speaker 3: talking about if you listen to the whole President Trump
• 51:32
Speaker 3: has that pressor yesterday surrounded by a bunch of West
• 51:34
Speaker 3: Virginia coal miners that says he's going to do all
• 51:36
Speaker 3: these things that I mentioned there to try to spur
• 51:39
Speaker 3: and bring the coal industry back.
• 51:42
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 51:43
Speaker 3: Is there optimism amongst those that support coal under the dome?
• 51:47
Speaker 18: There there is some optimism that you have an executive
• 51:55
Speaker 18: in the White House who supports and is not going
• 51:58
Speaker 18: to is not act trying.
• 52:00
Speaker 9: To end that industry.
• 52:02
Speaker 18: Now, does an executive order get you there? Does that
• 52:05
Speaker 18: give you certainty for the next two decades moving forward?
• 52:08
  Speaker 18: I don't know that it does that. I don't know
• 52:11
Speaker 18: that it does that.
• 52:12
Speaker 3: That I'm you and I are kind of in the
• 52:14
Speaker 3: same place on that. So all right, mister Wilson, mister Meadows,
• 52:17
Speaker 3: we will be listening at Metro News talk Line from
• 52:19
Speaker 3: the Capitol ten oh six. Thanks a lot, Love you, Dave. Yes, yes,
