- 0:13I'd like you to stay with us now as we get set to play the Pittsburgh Fire.
- 0:17All the doings are set your way with the compliments of the F&M Caper Brewing Company.
- 0:22Brewers of America's oldest soccer bears, Caper.
- 0:26And also with a compliment to the American Tobacco Company.
- 0:30On behalf of Lucky Strike, a light smoke, the best tasting cigarette you ever smoked.
- 0:36Now as the game gets underway for real enjoyment, have yourself a foaming glass of Caper.
- 0:42It's a real bear.
- 0:44If I were to stop you on the street and ask you just tell me the one thing they brew beer for,
- 0:49what would you think the right answer would be?
- 0:52For the look of the bear? For the gold of afternoon sunlight?
- 0:56The snowy whites of the pillow of home?
- 0:58For the taste? The rich, mellow flavor?
- 1:01The zesty, appetizing flavor you don't always find?
- 1:04Well, you'd be right.
- 1:06But more than those things, what they brew beer for, most of all, is enjoyment.
- 1:12Your enjoyment.
- 1:13The kind of enjoyment that makes you scratch your lips and say, bring on another.
- 1:18And brother, that is the story of Caper Bear.
- 1:21It is brewed for enjoyment, for perfect looks, for tops in flavor, for your enjoyment, brew and brew.
- 1:30It's right, Shaper, today. You'll see. It's real bear.
- 1:35Well, today it's game number two of the series between the Dodgers and the Pirates.
- 1:39Double-headed them all to wind it up.
- 1:42And last night the Dodgers beat the Pirates at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City by a score of 4 to 1.
- 1:48The Milwaukee loss coupled with the win by the Dodgers and the Cargills last night
- 1:53reduced the Milwaukee lead to seven and a half games.
- 1:55They still have three to play with the Cargills in the big series this weekend at Milwaukee.
- 2:00Right now, here is our national anthem.
- 2:02Put up your photo.
- 3:01Well for today's game here at Evans Field, it will be Sandy Koufax going for the Dodgers.
- 3:25The young left hander has won five and lost two and it's the only picture in the majors with more strikeouts than innings.
- 3:3194 strikeouts, 80 innings and that averages out to 10.58 strikeouts for nine innings.
- 3:38Against Koufax it will be Ronnie Klein who has been one of the hard-luck guys as far as the Pirates are concerned.
- 3:45Klein has won three games and lost 15. He's made four starts against the Dodgers this year, losing three times with one no decision.
- 3:53He has made seven lifetimes starts at Evans Field with no complete gains and there's only two victories at this park against six losses.
- 4:00We're in relief from 1955.
- 4:03So for today, Sandy Koufax against Ronnie Klein. Line up cards being exchanged by the umpires.
- 4:10And let's give you a rundown now on the batting orders for this afternoon's play.
- 4:15For the Pirates leading off playing in center field, Bob Slemethy.
- 4:20Third base hitting number two, Gene Freeze.
- 4:23The shortstop is Dick Throat and hitting in the cleanup position playing left field is Bob Skinner.
- 4:30Frank Thomas playing first base hitting fifth.
- 4:33Bill Mazaresky at second base.
- 4:36Bill Ferdinand center field.
- 4:39Hank Boyles during the catching and Ronnie Klein on the mound to do the pitching.
- 4:44For the Dodgers it will be Jim Gilliam leading off playing second base.
- 4:49Dodgers take the field mound.
- 4:53Hitting second will be Kyle Barolo.
- 4:56Duke Madder batting third playing center field.
- 4:59Jill Hutchins at first base.
- 5:02Elmer Ballo in left field.
- 5:05Charlie Neal at shortstop.
- 5:07Roy Campanella back in action, back at the plate.
- 5:11John Zimmer hitting eighth playing third base.
- 5:14And Koufax to do the pitching.
- 5:16The umpires will be taker at the plate, Zach Coley, McCoy, and Landis on the base pass.
- 5:23Boy, a beautiful day here at Brooklyn.
- 5:26Just ideal, a fine, taper afternoon.
- 5:29Hope we have a good, flat taper on hand as we get set for the ball game.
- 5:33Better still, come on out here to Everett Field and see the ball game between the Dodgers and the Pirates, game number two.
- 5:38Till that time, still plenty of good seats available.
- 5:41Can't make it today. Make a note, come out, see the double header tomorrow, starting at 2 o'clock.
- 5:47And Bob Clemente, the Pirate leadoff man, standing by, set to walk in and get the ball game underway.
- 5:52Dodgers, one up in the series, game number two, ready to get started.
- 5:56The F&M, Jay McBurn, company of Brooklyn, happy to thank you, play-by-play.
- 6:00And for the play-by-play, here's Al Holtz.
- 6:02Thank you very much, Jerry. Hi, everybody.
- 6:05Bob Clemente, hitting right-handed, stepping up to the plate, batting a 2-4-9.
- 6:08Sandy Kovacs, the Brooklyn left-hander, kicks and throws the fastball and rips it in at the knees for strike one.
- 6:13And that's the second game, and the series has begun.
- 6:17Bob Comete with four home runs and 24 runs batted in.
- 6:23Gavinella pops him in up at the target now, and Kovacs goes back to work on the 0-1 count.
- 6:27Another fastball, and it's a good foul up into the second tier off the first-base side.
- 6:32No balls and two strikes. The count now on Bob Clemente. He'll be followed by Gene Freeze for third baseman, and then we'll have short-step big group.
- 6:43Sandy Kovacs, as Jerry has told you, with a record of five and two, he's 0-1 this year with his first.
- 6:53Sandy, quite a strikeout on it.
- 6:55Gets ready to wear a mixed pitch in there to Bob Clemente, a right-hand hitter.
- 6:59Down comes that pitch, fastball, and it's one foul off the first-base side. Again it goes to the second tier.
- 7:06No balls, two strikes count.
- 7:08As soon as we have any information on the other ball game that's being played this afternoon, we'll most certainly pass it on to you.
- 7:17Kovacs again gets his drive from Gavinella working the plate today.
- 7:22The 0-2 pitch, Kovacs overhands third ball, lays in there high, and that's ball one.
- 7:27Two balls, two strikes.
- 7:38Kovacs taking plenty of time at the outset of his ball game. Flicks his glove, shaking off the side now, accepts the next set.
- 7:44One of his one and two, fastball, and there's great in there low.
- 7:48Two balls, two strikes, the count on Clemente.
- 7:51That's serious, but they have a great fairing on the outcome of the National League race.
- 7:55We're St. Louis and Milwaukee whacking away at each other.
- 7:58The Brooklyn Dodgers have a golden opportunity playing against the last place Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 8:03They took those deliveries by Kovacs. The fastball is outside and the count is three and two now to Clemente.
- 8:15Dan Buzzing here this afternoon. It's ladies' day and we have plenty of not-holds here.
- 8:21A few little acres. Kovacs sends it in there and Clemente takes the pitch at Harvard ball four.
- 8:28Clemente gets things started for Pittsburgh, drawing a base on balls.
- 8:33That'll bring on Gene Freeze, right hand hitting third base.
- 8:40And we have a batting percentage. Gene Freeze is hitting it 284.
- 8:53He has five home runs and 22 runs batted in.
- 8:56Bob Somarejo, who likes to run the bases, is on it first. Takes the lead and hard to hold the corner.
- 9:01Kovacs, the left-hander, hides in and throws over there and Clemente hard to get ahead of it.
- 9:05Cashew just hooked up with us. We're in the top of the first inning.
- 9:10The first man Clemente was walked by Kovacs, the starting pitcher for Brooklyn.
- 9:15He's working now through Gene Freeze. The job is high on the side and Clemente was up going.
- 9:21He'll be down now with the ball and no strikes on Gene Freeze.
- 9:25The plate up fire here for this one this afternoon is Phil Baker.
- 9:31Frank DeCroce is at first base. Frank Sicori is second and Dan Landis is working on it third.
- 9:41Clemente moves on first base now. Kovacs fixes the plate, plays the fast ball in and beneath for a strike.
- 9:48One ball and one strike count.
- 9:52Ballboard here has ball two. Baker definitely is giving it the right arm.
- 10:02As Jerry mentioned a moment ago, this is a real shape of day. It's a damning.
- 10:08Overhand fast ball and curve is into the tank. That's the second one.
- 10:17Ballboard, comes up ball three.
- 10:26One ball, two strikes count. On right hand hitting Gene Freeze with Clemente in first and nobody out top for first inning.
- 10:35Just getting underway. Kovacs this afternoon going against Ronnie Klaas.
- 10:41Kovacs has been tagged once by Pittsburgh this year. He hasn't beaten them.
- 10:48Kovacs continues to pour that fast ball in there and is very effective with it.
- 10:55Now pick up 95 strikeouts.
- 11:00With Clemente at first and one off, DeCroce comes up. He's up and over six figures.
- 11:05With a 3-31 batting average, five off runs and 39 runs batted in.
- 11:12Former collegiate athlete, DeCroce is at first, right hand hitting shortstop.
- 11:17Stands about mid-wind, batters forks all the way around.
- 11:20Clemente steps away from first. Kovacs pitches the plate, DeCroce takes the pitch into the dirt.
- 11:24Cavanaugh comes up with a nice block. One ball and no strike count.
- 11:31Milwaukee first in the National League. As of the moment St. Louis riding in second place, seven and a half games off the base.
- 11:36They are just one percentage point ahead of the third place Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 11:41They are also seven and a half games off the base.
- 11:44Then comes the number four, team Cincinnati 10 games back.
- 11:47Comin' out to 12 behind.
- 11:51Bob Clemente at first having been won. Freeze struck out, Grode is up there.
- 11:56Big man with wood down Fitzberg way this year. They're putting their hopes on him for the Interactive books.
- 12:02Third ball, he swings on it, hits it down a short. Up with it, down the seal, throws to Gilliam for one to throw on the first.
- 12:08And there's the double player.
- 12:12So that happens quick in a hurry. As the Brooklyn Dodgers come up with their first double player of the afternoon and their 104th of the year.
- 12:20Double player short this second of first.
- 12:24No runs, no hits. Nobody left on, throw nothing across.
- 12:28This is going to end up having any.
- 12:30Fitzberg nothing and the Brooklyn Dodgers have nothing.
- 12:32We can report that the word has come along now that Bobby Smith, the Fitzberg pitcher who was held at the pregame workout, has regained consciousness and is alright.
- 12:40He was hit by a throw by Bill Burton while taking part in the off field during the pregame infield drill.
- 12:47And has to be carried to the Fitzberg's dressing room on a stretcher that Bob Smith is coming around and will probably have a finger in his head.
- 12:55Okay, back to play, get down.
- 12:57In the last half of the first inning, Jim Gilliam steps up to lead things off for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 13:02Gilliam batting a 2-5-1.
- 13:041-0-1, 29 runs, batted in.
- 13:07Right-hander Ronnie Klein works fastball to Gilliam and gets it off the pitch from the corner, first strike.
- 13:14Ronnie Klein, 3-15 with the lead, 3 wins, 15 losses.
- 13:18The Dodgers are concerned, he has not beaten them and three times they have tagged him for defeat.
- 13:24Big draw, follow, kicks and throws, big curve ball, it stays outside and high, the ball one.
- 13:30One ball and one strike.
- 13:33Ronnie Klein has made four strikes against the Dodgers this season, this is his step of luck at it.
- 13:40He's made seven lifetimes starts at Emmett Field and over three games.
- 13:44Gilliam swings on the next pitch, hits it to the alley and left center coming over for the center fielder Burton and falls it down all the way.
- 13:51Gilliam is off.
- 13:54One out here in the last half of the first inning, there is no score on the ball game.
- 13:59The eighth place, Fitzberg's Marriott, 29 and a half games off the plate, battling the third place Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 14:06One and a half back and no one.
- 14:10Carl Furlow, whose batter has been just about as hot as Fiddle, in ten games he's hitting 4-5-2, 283 overall with the lead.
- 14:19Right hand hitter, Klein comes to him with a fast ball and falls down to the right side.
- 14:23First baseman Thomas Upwood, he'll make the play by himself and Carl Furlow is out.
- 14:30One-two down, last half of the first inning, about an hour's group scatter.
- 14:42Here at Emmett Field this year, the Dodgers have hit 58-hundred-48 games.
- 14:48As Snyder leads the parade to 14, Gamonella chimes in seconds with nine and Hodges has eight.
- 14:57He's got a great lead at all times at Emmett Field.
- 15:01Thomas is 66.
- 15:03Snyder ground working with Snyder after the fast ball.
- 15:06The rifle is at the right field, it's going to bang up against the foreboard out there and run the way for Bermette.
- 15:11Snyder's running right in seconds, Bermette throws, Snyder takes seconds standing up and ball gets away.
- 15:16He's close up growth and Snyder goes on down to the other side.
- 15:26Bermette's throw in, getting away from short shot growth, comes in the back at second, so Snyder didn't inflict side.
- 15:35He kept right on door.
- 15:37Bermette's throw is low into the dirt and it looks like a scuba.
- 15:42So it'll be a single to right field, a double to right field for Snyder and have him moving over on the curve base on Amera charge to Bermette, the right fielder on a low throw.
- 15:55Well the Dodgers have something cooking here in the last half, the first inning was too hard.
- 16:09Snyder's on his third and Gil Hodge is up there.
- 16:12It's a wild one way up above the head of everybody, looks like a break comes in to score.
- 16:25A double forward by Amera on the sequence of the play, and then a wild pitch gets Snyder into score this one.
- 16:35The Dodgers lead it 1-0.
- 16:42Hodges of course has the count of 4-1.
- 16:46Ryan on court that great big one, he expected to be a curve ball, a slow curve and it was so high that that coil from the first catcher wouldn't even leap up to get it.
- 16:57Hodges would scramble out of the way, he didn't want to be part of it either.
- 17:02Still batting it 3-0-7.
- 17:05Last half of the first inning, the Dodgers lead it 1-0.
- 17:08So far in the inning they've had a hit, a couple bites now to do that field.
- 17:12An error on a throw by Cormacay, throwing into the third of second base.
- 17:17And then a wild pitch.
- 17:19That's what's going on, it's going up the first base line, three times it slips, the first base is dry and that's all for Hudson.
- 17:29Throwing away a rather a gift run here in the first inning but the Dodgers really kept it.
- 17:33One run on one hit, there was an error and nobody left it on.
- 17:37So far at the end of one inning of play, Hudson one and the Vickney-Fittsburg Pirates have doubled.
- 17:42Now before we go to the top of the second, let's get over to Jerry, he's got a word for it.
- 17:46Hey I don't know about you but my idea of a height of convenience is to save myself steps.
- 17:51Like moving our guests in the house and I want to spend the time seeing them, not running back and forth to the kitchen.
- 17:58That in a nutshell is why the Schaeffer Partyside full port bottle is ideal.
- 18:04Why you get yourself a glass Schaeffer port when you got company coming in and you're all set.
- 18:10Because when you open up a Schaeffer full port bottle, you can pour out four jug full glasses of real enjoyment.
- 18:17And enjoy it they will, if they go for taste such as a bright and bright as a friendly greeting.
- 18:24You serve your guests Schaeffer beer, some convenient Partyside full port bottles.
- 18:29You'll appreciate these, you'll all appreciate the taste. It's real beer.
- 18:35Well we're moving along now to the top of the second inning of the ballgame with Bob Skinner playing Thomas and Bill Mazaroff.
- 18:41He's coming along to play standing. So Matt, go right back to play, here's round.
- 18:45Bob Skinner hits number four on the Vicknsburg order, he's a big goalie and a tab hitter.
- 18:49Well over six feet, this left fielder is batting at three-thirty. He has eight home runs and 28 runs to bat again.
- 18:58Well it's the F&M Schaeffer Brewing Company, we move into the top half of the second.
- 19:01We'll see if the Brooklyn Dodgers leading one to nothing.
- 19:04In case you didn't get the action in the last half of the first inning, the scoring action we'll give it to you in a moment.
- 19:10Dandy Kopacz, ready to go to work here on Bob Skinner.
- 19:13He delivers fastball on the far back and helps his back foul for quick one.
- 19:18After Gilliam and Burlow had put out, the sniper rifle is shot off the scoreboard in right field.
- 19:26And then Clemente's low throw, trying to get Snyder at second base, got through Groats for an error charged to Clemente.
- 19:34Third ball is hung on by Skinner, high pop-up back on the crash short left.
- 19:39Charlie Neal with the sun glass flip, he's back there to cover, there's the first ball.
- 19:46Run away in the top of the second and the batter coming on is Thomas.
- 19:53Frank Thomas right hand hitting first base.
- 19:56Frank's played all over the place for Big Bird, he's been their left fielder.
- 20:01He's played all over the outfield, he's played third.
- 20:07Now he's holding down first base.
- 20:09Loweck comes down to end with a fastball and that's a little not bad.
- 20:16One ball, no strike.
- 20:24Loweck's worked right back on the one-oh count.
- 20:27There's his fastball and Thomas clamps it to foul off the first base side, that'll go to the Tans out of play.
- 20:35One ball, one strike count.
- 20:37Brooklyn by virtue of their run on the bottom of the first, leads in the ball game 1-0.
- 20:47Kovacs trying to new ball around the bomb free Tans.
- 20:51Good to Slav, now he's ready.
- 20:56Thomas moves that pass back and forth to a menacing lead.
- 20:59Big Bullock can hit it if he gets a hold of it.
- 21:01Kovacs delivers him a little fastball and that's a ram down the fairs.
- 21:04He puts it out of the dirt, makes his play to first, and that's all the fun.
- 21:11Two up, two down here in the top of the second inning.
- 21:13And the battle now coming up will be second baseman, right hand hitting Bill Mezorowski.
- 21:22Thomas went up there batting at 298.
- 21:24Bill Mezorowski hitting at 292.
- 21:34Two down, the base is empty in the top of the second.
- 21:36Brooklyn leads it 1-0 with a fifth target pass.
- 21:39Kovacs working on the hill this afternoon for the Dodgers.
- 21:42Delivers another off, he cuts to the curve and doesn't get it.
- 21:49That ball is one strike.
- 21:53On the side of Jersey City, Brooklyn defeated, six first four to one.
- 21:59Dodgers was credited with the win.
- 22:04Hill one delivery, here's Low.
- 22:06One ball, one strike down on Mezorowski.
- 22:20Kovacs taking plenty of time working out that right winning function this afternoon.
- 22:24Young folks on a pacing show.
- 22:27Now he delivers one and one to Mezorowski.
- 22:29A little twinge on the pitch and it's a high-pump ball.
- 22:32That'll spin back to the Dodger dugout off to the right of home plate.
- 22:37One ball, two strikes down on Mezorowski.
- 22:46Now for the big double header, figure that Bob Flann and Wamie Douglas will be the Pittsburgh Bidu.
- 22:52The curve is into the strike and that's the third and it's called.
- 22:57That's the second strike out.
- 23:00More Sandy Kovacs this afternoon.
- 23:03And to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the top of the second, nothing is gone.
- 23:06The score at the end of one and one happening to play.
- 23:09It's Brooklyn one and the Pittsburgh Pirates have nothing.
- 23:14Well you know fans all ball players, even the best of them, have off days.
- 23:19Days when they can't seem to get the big hit or make the important play.
- 23:23That is all just part of the game.
- 23:25But now you think the business of brewing beer.
- 23:28Now that's different.
- 23:30You simply can't have any off days.
- 23:32Briefly it's not if you're going to brew a pint of beer at Schaeffer.
- 23:35No sir, there's never any let down in Schaeffer quality.
- 23:39Every can, every bottle, every glass of Schaeffer is beer at its fresh.
- 23:45You see only the very best brewing ingredients are used in Schaeffer beer.
- 23:50Rich barley malt, hanging hops and other fine natural ingredients.
- 23:55They haven't been carefully measured in front of it as only shop brew masters can do it.
- 23:59And brother, that kind of expert brewing pays big dividends in flavor, Schaeffer flavor.
- 24:06So for real enjoyment, you make a Schaeffer beer every time.
- 24:10It's real beer.
- 24:14Well we've got a real ball game going on here.
- 24:16Second game of the period, couple of minutes tomorrow.
- 24:19The Dodgers come on with a second battle, Neal and Campanella face Ronnie Flange.
- 24:24So let's hop right back to Al from Wolf Way by Flange.
- 24:27Talking about facing somebody, Jerry we've just gotten a warm up picture for that game between St. Louis and Milwaukee.
- 24:32And Jackson will be pitching for St. Louis.
- 24:35His record is 12 wins and 6 losses.
- 24:38And Burkett will be going to the mound for the Milwaukee Braves.
- 24:41His record is 11 and 7.
- 24:43So the shoe balls, let's know what they're facing for this afternoon.
- 24:48Al Mavallo here in the last half of the second inning coming on.
- 24:51He's the number five hitter in the batting order.
- 24:54Number three, Al Mavallo.
- 24:56As a starter for the Buckeye Dodgers, and I didn't figure his issue was too much starting this year.
- 25:01He was picked up as a great hitter at Duluth at the beginning of the year.
- 25:05But as a starter in 23 ball games, Al Mavallo at San Judo is batting at 3-4-6.
- 25:11Leans back to the client fastball and ball one to high.
- 25:16Al Mavallo with the league is batting at 3-17 as he stands in right now.
- 25:21Three home runs and 20 runs batted in.
- 25:23His last moment was a polo ground just a few days back.
- 25:27Time kick time for the fastball and Al Mavallo spins away from it.
- 25:31The ball hits the bat and lands off three first strikes.
- 25:35One ball and one strike.
- 25:38One to nothing Brooklyn as they move along here at bat in the last half of the second inning.
- 25:44Tomorrow a big double header and we sure hope you're going to be here with us.
- 25:50Time kicks and first, that'll start the swing checks up in time and good time.
- 25:56Two home runs and one strike.
- 25:59Rob Brand and Wami Douglas.
- 26:02Fits for the Pittsburgh Pirates against Sal Magley and Roger Cray.
- 26:06Out the books and Dodgers.
- 26:09Time delivers to one.
- 26:11Pitch to Vallow is outside high ball three.
- 26:15Then one, McDonough to Al Mavallo leading it off to Brooklyn in the second.
- 26:20At the end of an inning and a half, it is New York one and Philadelphia one.
- 26:25Time delivers three runs.
- 26:27Vallow takes outside high ball four.
- 26:30So Elmer gets being started for Brooklyn in the second of the ball.
- 26:35First first run ball is given up by Vallow.
- 26:39Shot in real a batter.
- 26:41Short shot batting number six in a Brooklyn order.
- 26:45Batting a 269.
- 26:48Now home run 39 runs batted in.
- 26:56Vallow stepping west first base with Thomas holding the corner on him.
- 26:59Line checks up with the runners.
- 27:01The winner's a plate.
- 27:02Elmer has fast ball and the foul kicks into the dirt.
- 27:07Good first in field, Thomas the third.
- 27:10Bill Mazurowski second.
- 27:12A short shot, big throw and a third is just three.
- 27:16Now doing the Skinner in left.
- 27:18Birdman in center.
- 27:20Fox, Clemente in right.
- 27:21Pittsburgh's battering, Ronnie's flying the pitcher.
- 27:23Hank for the catcher.
- 27:25A throw to first as Vallow for a bang.
- 27:31Field one delivery on Johnny Neal.
- 27:33Neal swings on it, taps and swings.
- 27:35He left the pitch as long as Ryan off the ramp.
- 27:37First and time to get Neal and Elmer Vallow moves on to second.
- 27:41So before we have Roy Campanella, let's pause for safe identification.
- 27:45This is the Brooklyn Dodgers radio network.
- 27:48Dial 1460, WOKO, your Brooklyn Dodgers station in Albany, New York.
- 27:53It's 2.30, WOKO time.
- 27:56Actual goal is remiss.
- 28:10Campanella kicking dirt, batter's far, getting himself set to duck in.
- 28:15Roy batting at 2.37.
- 28:22One out, Elmer Vallow at second.
- 28:24One to nothing Brooklyn.
- 28:25Roy delivers, Campanella swings, gets a hold of it, there's a plumb drive deep into the left center field.
- 28:40Roy Campanella has a little cross-dange over the cake.
- 29:00Well, this 13th home run of the year, he now has 60 runs by the band.
- 29:11Don Zimmer coming up.
- 29:13Right hand hitting third baseman.
- 29:16Roy delivers him a soft curve and it funds up the right field side.
- 29:20At first base, Don must pick it up, steps on first base and that's it for Zimmer.
- 29:25Actually, Don was trying to check each point.
- 29:28Well, the do-out game is second inning, he'll bring on Sandy Koufax.
- 29:34Gad is looking for his first base hit.
- 29:4321 times Sandy has been up to the plate.
- 29:4521 times he has come away empty handed.
- 29:55Sandy Koufax will be back right handed.
- 29:58We've seen Goal from either side of the plate.
- 30:01He's come back right handed now.
- 30:03A Nelsie King, a right-hander up and pulling down the Pittsburgh bullpen, along with Little Elroy Chase, another right-hander.
- 30:11Glad to live in the curve and he picks it high.
- 30:15One ball and no strike.
- 30:17Plano, glad that the knucklehead actually every once in a while.
- 30:22Goal is fastball and makes it go outside, ball two.
- 30:31Goal down, the base is empty thanks to Cappy and Kieran Mulbrown here in the second inning.
- 30:35The books and dogs are greeted now, three to nothing.
- 30:39Goal is up to the plate, Koufax just straightens up and takes the pitch in there for the first strike.
- 30:58Now the 2-1 delivery.
- 31:00Koufax wants to fall, coming low.
- 31:04That is car three and one.
- 31:08Koufax, get on, get Gellium, we'll start the second batting go around for them.
- 31:18John Reddy serves up on the 3-1 delivery and lays it in, looks like two.
- 31:26We'll count now to Koufax, three balls and two strikes.
- 31:35Koufax on the 3-2 pitch, lets the yet another corner for strike three.
- 31:44Plano gets his first strike out of the afternoon in the second inning.
- 31:48Paul Brupen, they pick up two more runs on Kampenalla's two-run home run, his first team for the year.
- 31:54That was the one hit in the inning, they were all errors and nobody left on.
- 31:59The score at the end of the full ball inning to play, it is for three-three and the Vickie Pittsburgh Pirates have seven.
- 32:07What do you have to talk about now Jerry?
- 32:09Well I want to talk about the game coming up and we've got a real sketch for tomorrow.
- 32:14You know after tomorrow's Sunday doubleheader with the Pirates, the Dodgers fly to Montreal where they'll be taking on the International League All-Stars
- 32:21including several future Dodgers that's Monday night and then it's back home for a long stare against the Western Clubs in our own league.
- 32:29Cincinnati, a Twilight night doubleheader, Tuesday and a day game Wednesday.
- 32:34Milwaukee, face-setting Waihe Thursday night, Friday night and for the Dodgers target camera day next Saturday afternoon.
- 32:42The Mabill is startled in the title game next week and a big week in Emmett Field starting Tuesday night.
- 32:49I'll tell you how often you'll be out here releasing your Dodgers.
- 32:52Come out as often as you can and see as many ball games.
- 32:55Boy there ought to be a fine bunch of them coming up.
- 32:58Tuesday night they doubleheader with the Redlegs.
- 33:01According to Marr they'll be doubleheader with the Pirates.
- 33:03So lots of baseball activity right here at Emmett Field.
- 33:07Well we move along to the third inning now with Bill Burton and Hank Boyle, Ronnie Klein due to face-sanding.
- 33:13So fast and so perky for very more play-by-play.
- 33:16Here's the foul. That's your foul Jerry. It's the last third of the Pittsburgh batting order here in the top of the third inning.
- 33:22Three runs, two hits for Burton.
- 33:24The Pittsburgh no runs, no hits.
- 33:27And the Colfax about ready to spin the first pitch into the foot-down hitting center fielder.
- 33:33Burton batting a two-five-nine.
- 33:36The on-rides that's it. It's the Colfax fastball and it's high inside for ball one.
- 33:42Elton King and Elroy Chase, a pair of right-handers, continue to work down on the Pittsburgh 10.
- 33:47The reason for the lead is that better body gets on the line without making an appearance.
- 33:51Colfax works his front-fires outside.
- 33:54Two balls and no dice.
- 33:57Colfax with the new ball.
- 33:59Olsen ready to work.
- 34:01Burton waves that chaletly around.
- 34:06And the end of the play is the soon-to-be third ball and it's high off the chip. Three balls and no dice.
- 34:21It's the greatest low ball for him.
- 34:23And Burton drives a one-two-start finish in the third inning.
- 34:29The second-and-fourth Pittsburgh catchers coming on out.
- 34:37Duffinberg put together a right-hand hitter.
- 34:41Starting at 268. Dix-O-Mans at 30 runs lead it in.
- 34:46Duffinberg, nobody out. Colfax comes into the play for four-ohs.
- 34:50Going on and down to New York short. He goes over to Gage.
- 34:53It's like if the one that threw on the first pitch doubled play.
- 34:58For both sides, Colfax is in trouble. The double play is far too after helping.
- 35:05This one has the first one in the first inning. Goes from short to second and back to first.
- 35:11So they're two down here and they drop to third inning.
- 35:19Bryan coming up now at about 32.
- 35:25Duffinberg and Johnny O'Brien sit down in the Pittsburgh bullpen.
- 35:29Colfax fires to the plate and his fastball is low and outside to ball one.
- 35:34Bryan has four hits and 44 drives out of this year and no runs batted in.
- 35:41Starting at 091.
- 35:45Dix is laid in there low. Two balls, no strikes.
- 35:54Colfax back down for a visit to the Rocks bag.
- 36:00Cabinella down with the clock up the side.
- 36:02Bakes to the plate up fire over his left shoulder to get a look at the pitch.
- 36:08Then it comes to Bryan hitting right-handed. Bakes it on the corner off the hand.
- 36:13That's strike one.
- 36:19Cabinella and Schaefer blowing, jumping in.
- 36:21Bryan is running into Brown-Evans Field.
- 36:24Hope he's not putting his Schaefer for the weekend now.
- 36:27Overhand fastball, wait a minute.
- 36:29Doesn't get it. That's strike two.
- 36:31Two balls and two strikes.
- 36:34At the end of two and a half and an eight.
- 36:36It's one run between New York and Philadelphia.
- 36:39Oates Coriand from Milwaukee.
- 36:44Overhand fastball and an attempted funded pump.
- 36:47That's it.
- 36:51Bryan will be registered as having a struck out of his Colfax at Pittsburgh.
- 36:57And the third inning coming across Pittsburgh.
- 37:00Going to the end of two and a half and an eight.
- 37:02It is a three and Pittsburgh has nothing.
- 37:07How about you, friend, buddy?
- 37:09Well, I tell you, Al.
- 37:10Been in the city working a while.
- 37:12Oh, yeah.
- 37:13Now, coming to New York to see the old, maybe just bring the wife in for dinner at your favorite hotel.
- 37:18They like the world.
- 37:20Well, I tell you, it is a good idea.
- 37:22Why not make it a real little vacation?
- 37:25It's good for real enjoyment.
- 37:27Stop overnight at your favorite hotel.
- 37:30Take a day or two to see the Dodgers play here at Everett Field.
- 37:33Catch a show or a movie you haven't seen or maybe some of the fights you've never gotten around to.
- 37:38Oh, man, that sounds good, doesn't it?
- 37:41And get off most anywhere you stop at New York's finer hotels and restaurants.
- 37:47You'll find that for real enjoyment, they're serving real beer, caper beer.
- 37:53Sure, capers are available at your favorite eating place as it is in your own home.
- 37:59So when you step out, don't forget to order capers for real enjoyment at a cool, homey glass of real beer, caper beer.
- 38:10Tell me something, Jared, did you tell your gal to get ready for the weekend?
- 38:14Yeah, she's going to stop in the afternoon, going to bring her to Schaefer Court.
- 38:19All right, boy, it's a good thing Jody knows about it.
- 38:21We want everybody to realize the weekend is coming up and Schaefer Court is the real hand to have around.
- 38:26Boy, that's the best way out.
- 38:27Oh, man, you're about to play Gilliam coming on, so how about it out?
- 38:33Good, yeah.
- 38:34Just get him.
- 38:35Get him up in the first inning and fly it out the center field to Bill Burton.
- 38:38He's over one and batting it to five-one.
- 38:42Roddy Klein on the bounce, it's red, ready to go to work.
- 38:46He's giving up two-base hit.
- 38:48One or two run home run, Duke-Campanella.
- 38:51Soft serve is laid in there and Gilliam takes it off the hands on the corner for strike one.
- 39:01A ball, no strike down.
- 39:04Call for a home.
- 39:06Schaefer Ward winners on back to go next.
- 39:09Curve ball laid in there to get any backstop and take the ball for ball two.
- 39:14Two balls and no strike.
- 39:20Roddy Klein, the fifth-place pitcher, punch, kick, and throw.
- 39:23Cast ball and Gilliam, whoops it down back to first-place.
- 39:25Thomas down, takes it out of the dirt.
- 39:27He'll make the play by himself, does, and there's the first time.
- 39:32One away in the bottom of the third inning.
- 39:36Call for a home.
- 39:38Bounce shot to first base, Duke-Frank Thomas, not assisted in the first inning.
- 39:43Well, it's over one and batting it to 82.
- 39:49Three-up in Brooklyn as they bat here in the last half of third inning.
- 39:57With all, there'll be a pair of plays between these clubs.
- 40:03Ryan Delivis Perillo swings with the high foul ball, which is going to be popped right back over the dugout, and it goes out of play.
- 40:14No ball is one strike on Carl Perillo.
- 40:17It'll be followed by Duke-Snyder.
- 40:24Ryan swings at the action again on the 0-1 down, throws the pass on, and a little high, just above the letters.
- 40:31One ball and one strike to Perillo.
- 40:35One observation screen, bottom of the third.
- 40:46The 1-1 delivery, swung out by Carl, lifted to left center field, going back for it, but the break in the wall is going to be a little bit, all of it is.
- 40:56Carl gave up on a mighty ride, but wouldn't be able to get to it.
- 41:00Well, that's the second half, the last half of third inning.
- 41:06That is coming up now, the Duke-Snyder.
- 41:12He's got the dodges off on the right foot here this afternoon. When he ripped the double off the wall and right, he kept that on riding into second base, and so many drew four.
- 41:19And Pat, the covering shortstop, gets those for now, huh?
- 41:23That is up to third base.
- 41:25Six to R is over the shoot-cups for ball one.
- 41:29Got a wild six.
- 41:31All of the following batter, Hodges, got the run-in.
- 41:37One of the delivery deciders, swung on, bounced away foul, first base drive, and into the crowd.
- 41:43One ball and one strike from Snyder.
- 41:52Billy Herman, Hodges out of third.
- 41:55Flaps his hands to get in.
- 41:57The old boys have encouragement to do.
- 42:00Last pitch is the scalar, outside nine.
- 42:04Two balls and one strike down on Snyder.
- 42:07That pitch looked as though it had partially gotten away from the line.
- 42:12Two-one off-ricks.
- 42:14Big curve outside nine for ball three.
- 42:17Snyder up on the three-one count.
- 42:20When the last half of third inning, two down, the base gets the effort from Leeds in the ball game, three to nothing on two base hits.
- 42:28Well over next to base floor, Snyder's doubled in the first. And after a fair walk with one-on, Campanella hitting 13-one run into left center field.
- 42:37This is the Snyder outside for ball four.
- 42:41Oh, they're two-out.
- 42:42Now there's one-on.
- 42:47The last time Ryan Walsh, the man, became home to Hodges.
- 42:51Now let's see what happened for Hodges when he got in the first inning.
- 42:55On a ground ball to three, Eugene Free, that's retired as Hodges in the first inning.
- 43:02Three-nuping David Woodward. Two down, Snyder at first.
- 43:08Back to work, now as he checked up with Snyder at first, the look of the plate and Hodges.
- 43:11Looks at the curve, it's on the corner knee-high, over strike one.
- 43:28That's a good shot, it takes the lead at first. Draws a throw properly, that keeps it close.
- 43:42If you play the clear ball, it has Hodges spinning back out of there.
- 43:47One ball and one strike.
- 43:50Two-and-a-half, tomorrow, again, it's brand-new, when he does it.
- 43:58Daniel Bryan, back up in the flooring again, now on the Pittsburgh stand, now in the left field line.
- 44:02Bryan, is the plate, he gets it in there for Snyder, I get it in there to Hodges for the strike.
- 44:07He's taking his lead, a car-sick lead. One ball, two strikes down on first base for Hodges, follow to the Hodges, get on.
- 44:20Down comes the pick, Hodges straight, late in there for strike three.
- 44:28That's it, it's in the third, no runs, no hits. No errors, one man, try to let the first base.
- 44:37The score is in the three, full of things to play. Now, it's in the three and it's worth nothing.
- 44:41If the other ball comes to start the score, let's go over to Jerry and see what he has on that shape of scoreboard for us.
- 44:46All right, now, Jerry, it's a silly that Philadelphia won one of the other, but they're happening to play.
- 44:51Gomez started, Monzac came on the third, Stanford going all the way up to this point for Philadelphia.
- 44:56Ball game tied, one-one. St. Louis and Milwaukee, it's Jackson against Burdetta, no reports.
- 45:02That's the ball game now, under way about 15, 20 minutes. Jackson 12 and 6 and Burdette 11 and 7.
- 45:09Cincinnati playing at Chicago, Japs go it against Hillman.
- 45:13And for Cincinnati, Robinson the homeowner in the first inning was none on, so the Red Lakes weep by at least one or nothing, but the inning is not completed.
- 45:21In the American league, Baltimore and the Yankees go to score at the end of two and a half, four, replaced by O'Dell in the first inning and chance for the Yankees.
- 45:30Chicago, Detroit, the White Sox have scored four times in the first inning on a home run by Vinnie Mononco with a base of four.
- 45:38That inning is not completed yet, but Chicago leads by at least four to nothing.
- 45:42Washington, Boston, and Washington, Washington.
- 46:10Chicago first, Miami is in the first inning, and it's later now pitching.
- 46:14Boston and Washington, Washington scored five in the first inning and leaves Boston five-nothing at the end of one and a half.
- 46:21For Neal, it's a four to field against Cameron. Tonight it will be three for the Kansas City win against Scarborough.
- 46:27Well, that's everything off the statement scoreboard, so right back to the action.
- 46:30All right, Jerem, right now it's Romany against Colfax who fights a versus as we start the fourth inning. Romany walks in the first, he's up three seconds at bat.
- 46:40Radelfman swings on the first pitch and lets the ball back to the trees like once.
- 46:48Boston, Romany, the number one hitter in the Pittsburgh batting order, this is followed by Gene Freeze and then by Bruce. Danny Colfax, who's been in front of all games so far, in a pretty easy state this first, comes back to the place of the soft turn.
- 47:02Romany, pounds it off the right field, Carl Burlow backing up near the board, holds it down, and there's the first stop.
- 47:14One away top half of the fourth inning, the batter coming up now is Gene Freeze.
- 47:18Gene struck out in the first inning, giving Colfax his first of the three strikeouts he's picked up today.
- 47:26Sandy Soto now has drawn to 97.
- 47:37Rides Dale overhead with 103 strikeouts, and he's picked a great deal more than Colfax. Fastball laid in there and it's told us to strike. Gene Freeze batting, right hand hitting, third base.
- 47:53Colfax takes off, Capanella. Comes back to the place.
- 47:58Irving is right in there for the second strike. Or two. St. Louis just took a pretty big run in the top half of the first inning at Milwaukee.
- 48:09The Braves are coming to bat now in the last half of that first. St. Louis three and Milwaukee nothing in the top of the first inning.
- 48:16Fastball turned on. Freeze with the high foul ball that has made off into the crowd on the third base line. No balls, two strikes.
- 48:34Colfax ready with a new apple. Gene Freeze gets dug in at the plate. Going on here in the top four. Base is empty and looks to leave three nothing. Pittsburgh is bad.
- 48:52Colfax again shakes off Capanella. Now he's ready and delivers. Pitch is swung on. There's a high popper. Out back of third base. Colfax boy, the impaired ground. His third baseman Zimmerman hauls it in.
- 49:06Two down in the top half of inning number four. With the bases empty Dick Grove comes up now. He leaps into a double play in the first inning.
- 49:16One of the two, the Brooklyn Inter-Defense is back. Scots he's picked up today. Sandy Soto now has drawn to 97.
- 49:34Has now however has an up and freeze strikeout. He's picked up a great deal more than Colfax. Fastball laid in there and he's shoulder to the strike. Gene Freeze batting and hitting third base.
- 49:50takes off, Capanella.
- 49:52Comes back to the plate with a soft curve
- 49:54and is slated now for the second straight.
- 49:58Four-two.
- 49:59St. Louis just took some pretty big runs
- 50:02in the top half of the first inning at Milwaukee.
- 50:06And the Braves are coming to bat now
- 50:08in the last half of that first.
- 50:09St. Louis three and Milwaukee nothing
- 50:11in the top of the first inning.
- 50:13Last ball is going on.
- 50:15Please look for high foul ball
- 50:16to fade off into the crowd on the third base line.
- 50:20No balls, two strikes.
- 50:23Go backs ready for the new apples.
- 50:32These three are getting dug in and slated.
- 50:36One out here in the top of the fourth.
- 50:39The base is empty and going to lead three-nothing.
- 50:41Pittsburgh is bad.
- 50:42Go backs again, takes off Capanella.
- 50:50Now he's ready and delivers.
- 50:52Bits are swung on.
- 50:53There's a high cover outside the third base.
- 50:56Going back forward in third ground.
- 50:58There's third baseman Dillon.
- 50:59Halls with him.
- 51:02Two down in the top half of inning number four.
- 51:07With the bases empty, Dick Rhodes comes up now.
- 51:09He reps into a double play in the first inning.
- 51:11One of the two of the Brooklyn hitter defenses
- 51:14manufactured today and both of them have gone
- 51:16from short to second to first.
- 51:21Both batting at three-thirty.
- 51:24Right hand hitter.
- 51:28Go backs ready to work.
- 51:32Capanella ready behind the plate.
- 51:34Go backs delivers a fast ball on the south side.
- 51:38One ball and no strikes.

- 51:45in the last half of the first inning.
- 51:48Three to nothing.
- 51:49St. Louis over Milwaukee in one inning.
- 51:53The next to go is over and the cow is one ball
- 51:55and one strike down.
- 51:59Two out, nobody on top of the fourth.
- 52:01Pittsburgh is back and good up at the plate.
- 52:04Go backs one-one to the plate.
- 52:06Ball and Groves takes it low.
- 52:08Ball two.
- 52:22Two ball, one strike, cow and Groves.
- 52:24Repeating at the end of the first inning.
- 52:27St. Louis leads Milwaukee three-nothing.
- 52:29That's four.
- 52:30It's one on and it's deep into left center field.
- 52:34It is up against the wall.
- 52:35The ball almost chases.
- 52:37On his way to second goes Groves and Schaen,
- 52:39the two-bagger for him.
- 52:40That's the first hit off Copac.

- 52:58hitting left fielder.
- 53:01Boy, he did take that apple down at fourth field
- 53:04at Pittsburgh on a recent visit in there.
- 53:07It was off it.
- 53:08The Duke Snyder made a tremendous catch
- 53:10in deep right center field.
- 53:11Finding the corrugated gate.
- 53:15Bob's going to drop the shortstop in the second inning.
- 53:17He's over one.
- 53:19Go back to slow.
- 53:20The overhand back ball.
- 53:21That is one that's both.
- 53:22Had a well-hit ball.
- 53:23Deep to center field.
- 53:24Snyder's going back.
- 53:25There's no use.
- 53:26That ball is into the center field.
- 53:27Stands for a two-run home run from Bob Skinner.
- 53:32He can hit him.
- 53:37It's that one in the straightaway center field.
- 53:41Oh, the put the lead.

- 54:48Colfax comes to him with a curve at high.
- 54:51Up above the cap.
- 54:53One ball and no strikes.
- 54:57If you don't like the complexion of things in the National League,
- 55:02all you've got to do is wait a minute or two and it changes.
- 55:09Colfax at the top with just a check of the runner at first.
- 55:12Throws over there.
- 55:15Thomas moves right back in.
- 55:17Colfax delivers the plate now.
- 55:27Mazurowski touches a foul back to the screen.
- 55:33One ball and one strike count.
- 55:38From the bind, flooring down in the football full-pen now.
- 55:42At the end of an inning, St. Louis three and Milwaukee has nothing.
- 55:45At the end of three, someone else is three and the Giants one.
- 55:49At the end of two, Yankees and Baltimore score.
- 55:55They'll keep chucking scores in all afternoon.
- 56:00Yankees have chucked them up with three in the last half of third inning.
- 56:03So they're leading Baltimore on our three-nothing.
- 56:08Colfax delivers a curve.
- 56:09The pitch is hung on.
- 56:10Hits down a short.
- 56:11Neal Biggs is out of the dirt, goes a short way to Gilliam, the fourth out of Thomas'
- 56:15secondary foul to fire.
- 56:18Broad six-four on the fourth out.
- 56:20Pittsburgh has a ripple here in the fourth inning.
- 56:22They pick up a pair of runs to get back in the ball game.
- 56:25On a double followed by a home runner and a single.
- 56:28Hits by Thomas, leaves the man on.
- 56:30Two runs, three hits.
- 56:32Oh, no errors and a man left.
- 56:34Score at the end of three and one half innings of play.
- 56:36The Brooklyn Dodgers three and the Pittsburgh Pirates have two.
- 56:40The four-fitting Palo Neal and Campanella coming on the face of Ronnie Clarence.
- 56:44So right back to the action.
- 56:45Here's Al.
- 56:46Elmer Palo once when he came up to his first time.
- 56:50So now this is his first official business in the play.
- 56:55Elmer batting at three-seventeen.
- 56:58He'll be followed by Neal and then by Campanella.
- 57:02Ryan and Hitchford right back in the ball game.
- 57:04But from three and Hitchford two.
- 57:06Ryan's a little bit down those wings on it, hits a high-powering fly ball down along the right field.
- 57:10Ryan's off to Clemente, loafing up under it and ready.
- 57:17Up one pitch, one man out.
- 57:23John and Neal drops his swing back in the second inning and roll the ball to the left of Richard Mounds.
- 57:31Ryan came down to field to throw him out.
- 57:33So he goes for one.
- 57:35Heading in 268.
- 57:42By Hortsoe and Neal takes the top curve in there for the strike.
- 57:47You know, Somali is up throwing down in the book and bullpen, so we'll have an outfield change for both of them.
- 57:57Over half-back ball is way outside.
- 58:00Neal's got one ball and one strike.
- 58:03Following here, we'll have a chance to duck in a station break.
- 58:10The one-one delivery.
- 58:12Neal looks out of mid-flow.
- 58:14Two balls, one strike.
- 58:18St. Louis is up store on the top half of inning number two.
- 58:22Going to the end of an inning and a half at Milwaukee.
- 58:24St. Louis three and the three is nothing.
- 58:29Ryan delivers here to Charlie Neal and he's curved that drum outside to ball three.
- 58:36Three and one on Charlie Neal.
- 58:38One out, bottom of the fourth, bases empty for three, picks for two.
- 58:47Now the three-one delivery.
- 58:48Over half-back ball, low ball four.
- 58:51Charlie Neal is on with one out and O'Farr is here for station identification.
- 58:55This is the Bookman Dodgers radio network.
- 58:58Dial 1460WOKO to a Brooklyn Dodgers station in Albany, New York.
- 59:04It's 3.02 WOKO time.
- 59:20When Roy Campanato sets up the plate in the second inning with Amita Ford,
- 59:24he promptly hits one deep into the left center field stand.
- 59:28So home run.
- 59:31Now Clive serves up and Campy takes the curve over to strike one.
- 59:37Roy batting at 2.40.
- 59:41Isn't it funny to see Duke Catchers' greatest, Campanato and Farah,
- 59:47have been over the last few years, both having a tough time of the week.
- 59:52There's a throw to first, Charlie Neal gets back.
- 59:57More that there, it's been having trouble by a base hit.
- 1:00:00Roy has been moaning a little all about his base hits too.
- 1:00:04Another throw to first, Neal is back.
- 1:00:10And that'll go as a base hit.
- 1:00:26That ball took an erratic bounce.
- 1:00:29Clips his glove up at the last moment.
- 1:00:41Charlie Neal carrying the male with Booger out of third.
- 1:01:04Jimmie Batting at 2.25.
- 1:01:11The Dodgers and the Forth will pull an out, have runners in first and third.
- 1:01:14They're leading Pittsburgh 3-2.
- 1:01:17Madden King and Johnny O'Brien get up to start the throw again in full bend for Pittsburgh.
- 1:01:21The whole Zimmer scouting now is 0-2.
- 1:01:34We're in the 3-1 half inning.
- 1:01:36That's coming up here.
- 1:01:37The Bills are leading the Dodgers 3-1.
- 1:01:40Zimmer swings, fires the next pitch away off the first base drive to the crowd.
- 1:01:46Down third to Jim, no balls to strike.
- 1:01:52Charlie Neal, the runner at third.
- 1:01:54Roy Capanella on the first.
- 1:01:58Go to pitch high and inside, Zimmer hits the third.
- 1:02:02He's right up over the peak of the cap.
- 1:02:05One ball to strike count on the Little Dutchman Cincinnati.
- 1:02:14Dondick to sign off, Mack foils, looks to Charlie Neal at third.
- 1:02:17Then delivers the play.
- 1:02:18Big curve ball and Zimmer swings.
- 1:02:20Doesn't get it, strike three.
- 1:02:22That's the second out now.
- 1:02:25Strikeout number three for the Flyers.
- 1:02:30The big important outboard into the get-go.
- 1:02:33Danny Murtaugh calls for time and pops off the fire.
- 1:02:35Then she goes on the front after the mile to talk to the Flyers.
- 1:02:39Dondick Colfax will be the Brooklyn batter.
- 1:02:44Charlie Neal, bird three to four, on third.
- 1:02:48Roy Capanella is the Brooklyn base runner at first.
- 1:02:57Whatever Danny Murtaugh had to say to his pitcher,
- 1:03:01the message has been transmitted and he's on his way back to the Pirate bench.
- 1:03:06Johnny O'Brien, a couple of right hands, one tall and skinny.
- 1:03:11O'Brien short and squat, out the bullpen to Pittsburgh.
- 1:03:16Round of the stretch, looks down to Colfax.
- 1:03:18The pitcher's swung on by Sandy and looks it out into right center.
- 1:03:22Coming in for it is for many the drawn backboard second baseman,
- 1:03:25Mother Rough, he handles it pretty odd, and that's a thousandth round.
- 1:03:30In the board, a run's one hit.
- 1:03:33Two men are left on, no errors.
- 1:03:36And the score at the end of four, four enemies a play.
- 1:03:39It is Brooklyn's three and the Pittsburgh Pirates have two.
- 1:03:44Geno Somoli, downplayed by the big eight.
- 1:03:55It's possible that Carl Berdahl could be having a little trouble,
- 1:03:59but Geno Somoli's coming in now as a Brooklyn right fielder.
- 1:04:06Somoli in his right field now, four foot ten.
- 1:04:08He'll take over for Rillo's spot in the batting order, hitting number two.
- 1:04:28Those who don't enjoy legs folks, now we'll move into the top half,
- 1:04:31hitting number five with Bill Burton, Sandy and Pittsburgh.
- 1:04:35Colfax comes down to him and the left-hand hitter swings and misses on a low curve ball.
- 1:04:40He's like what?
- 1:04:44But he has three and a half innings.
- 1:04:46The actors are leaning for the ball, three nothing.
- 1:04:50Colfax works the blade on the O-1 count, the soft curve,
- 1:04:53it's hit down to the right side.
- 1:04:54Gilliam tries to get it, but he's eluding,
- 1:04:56he's passing him in the right field for a base hit.
- 1:05:00So Burton is on.
- 1:05:02They got the ball, it's now the time to run on.
- 1:05:05Swing to the right, hits through the hole between first and second.
- 1:05:08Burton is the base runner.
- 1:05:13Coming up is Tank four.
- 1:05:15Those who also can hit that ball a separate mile for, if you pitch it and it's what he likes it.
- 1:05:21He's hitting it 267.
- 1:05:27Colfax carefully sets, checks his runners, delivers a blank four,
- 1:05:30swings, doesn't get a fast ball.
- 1:05:33Strike one.
- 1:05:46Colfax slides out of camp another time.
- 1:05:48He hooks to Burton and pitches a blank four, oh,
- 1:05:51reaching for an outside curve ball, punches it off to the right foul,
- 1:05:54that goes into the crowd.
- 1:05:57The ball is to his right.
- 1:06:07Colfax is busy wrapping up a new Apple.
- 1:06:11Burton represented a tying run for Pittsburgh,
- 1:06:13planning close to the basket first base,
- 1:06:15holds the corner on him.
- 1:06:18Colfax curve is slammed out into right center field.
- 1:06:21That's going to be in for a base hit, maybe for extra bases.
- 1:06:24Bill Burton has made the turn.
- 1:06:26He's on his way to third.
- 1:06:27The ball goes to the corner and breaks in the wall,
- 1:06:29and Burton comes on in to score, and Hank Foyle, the big guy, has tripled.
- 1:06:35Oh, that makes a new ball game out of it.
- 1:06:40All the triples with the biggest success of right center field.
- 1:06:45Give them a run out of air.
- 1:06:46That's hit number five, run number three on Colfax.
- 1:06:49Now it's all tied up three-three.
- 1:06:55Soldier, you don't like the complexion of it, just wait a minute.
- 1:07:00All these National League teams are sure about batting each other's brains off.
- 1:07:06They'll come up to bat for themselves.
- 1:07:10The Brooklyn infield draws in tight.
- 1:07:12Hank Foyle, who has just tripled in the tying run,
- 1:07:15Burton for first base, is on his third himself, representing the tie breaking run.
- 1:07:20Colfax ready, delivers, the pick is swung on,
- 1:07:22and Hasek Fowle off to the right of the plate, up on top of the roof.
- 1:07:28Probably strike one on Ronnie Clark.
- 1:07:30Let him combine up at a bigger, eight-throwing down on the Brooklyn bullpen.
- 1:07:35All tied at three-three.
- 1:07:37Colfax checks his runner at third, delivers the plate to Klein, takes it outside and high.
- 1:07:41One ball and one strike.
- 1:07:53Colfax taking plenty of time.
- 1:07:54Now it's Campanella, pops the middle of the target.
- 1:07:57Fowle's hands on it, bleeds down on third,
- 1:07:59takes a couple of chopping steps down at Colfax, delivers the pass,
- 1:08:01and it's swung on at the plate to Fowle's dip.
- 1:08:06One ball, two strikes count on Ronnie Clark.
- 1:08:11Nobody out for Pittsburgh here in the top half of the fifth inning,
- 1:08:13and the lead runner's on his third.
- 1:08:18The single-ball and five-triple has tied this ballgame up at three and three.
- 1:08:22Colfax down to the plate on the one-two count,
- 1:08:24pitching high and outside for ball two. Two balls, two strikes.
- 1:08:31Ronnie Klein aware of two-two, 22.
- 1:08:35It's all right hand hitter at the plate right now for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1:08:42Sandy, eyes the letter, Fowle's at third, delivers two-two,
- 1:08:48overhand fastball, swung on, and misses for strike three.
- 1:08:54Colfax hangs up the strikeout here underneath for thinning.
- 1:09:04Sandy now has a total of four for his work this afternoon.
- 1:09:09Bob Sclametti, right hand hitting right fielder,
- 1:09:12starting the third batting go-around for Pittsburgh.
- 1:09:15Colfax is lost in the first, flies to right, and they both inning.
- 1:09:19So he's a hole for one, hitting a two, 48.
- 1:09:25The high-breaking runner's third can still be got down on the track for five-five balls.
- 1:09:30And a Brooklyn infield still plays up ahead of the base pass.
- 1:09:34Colfax delivers, Sclametti swings, and doesn't get one.
- 1:09:36It's a tight off the base.
- 1:09:38No balls in one strike.
- 1:09:51All walks up here, three-three.
- 1:09:53Colfax, hit a far outfitting departs, Sclametti,
- 1:09:58high-breaking runner third in the first of Hank Foyle.
- 1:10:03Down comes that pitch, and Sclametti lays off and takes it high.
- 1:10:07One and one.
- 1:10:11The bar is still cranking up down in the Brooklyn bullpen.
- 1:10:14He's not ready if manager Walden also wants to use him.
- 1:10:22Sclametti, oh boy, is waiting in place.
- 1:10:25Colfax lets him cool out a bit as he ganders over third base of Foyle,
- 1:10:29then delivers one-one, fast ball, hits through the hole,
- 1:10:32a good stop into the left field.
- 1:10:34Sclametti comes in in the trot to score the run to break the tie.
- 1:10:37Sclametti is on.
- 1:10:41Ball rammed through the hole, it short and into left.
- 1:10:46That is the sixth hit and the fourth run given up by Colfax.
- 1:10:49Pittsburgh region now four-three.
- 1:10:53And with one out here in the fifth inning,
- 1:10:55Sclametti is on to first base with a batter coming up.
- 1:10:58And there's Freeze who has struck out and wants up to third base to darn Zimmer.
- 1:11:06Freeze coming back to get a new pass.
- 1:11:16Four runs on six hits for Pittsburgh, for Brooklyn three runs and three hits.
- 1:11:23Each side has had a home run hit four of them.
- 1:11:27Each case was a two-run home run.
- 1:11:29Skinner had one for Pittsburgh and the fourth camp another hit his
- 1:11:32in the second inning for Brooklyn.
- 1:11:34A throw to first as Sclametti leaps it back at that bag.
- 1:11:40Four-three, Pittsburgh out in front.
- 1:11:42At the end of two-and-a-half innings, it is St. Louis three and Milwaukee nothing.
- 1:11:47Milwaukee batting last half for third.
- 1:11:52Down comes an overhand fast ball.
- 1:11:54It goes for it.
- 1:11:58Freeze will be followed by Groves.
- 1:12:04These second-in-the-mission ball clubs have really been raising havoc for both clubs that have been fighting it out the first division.
- 1:12:12That's a fire that's come to life.
- 1:12:14At the swing on, there's a high-flag ball hung along the left-footed line coming over to Delford Valley.
- 1:12:19It's near the fast. It cannot get it. It's back about four rows.
- 1:12:24Long, large strike. It's being praised.
- 1:12:29Down is O and two.
- 1:12:40Drop half of the fifth inning at Everts Field.
- 1:12:44The Pittsburgh Pirates are at bat. One out, one on, and they're leading four to three.
- 1:12:52Go back to the hunch of the shoulders. It's ready. Now, she straddles the rubber.
- 1:12:56Looks over to Sclametti at first.
- 1:12:58Down, down, the freeze.
- 1:13:00It's going on in right. Far all down to the field. Drive into the second tier.
- 1:13:22Go back to ready O2. A check of Sclametti at first base. Delivered to Jean Freeh. It's an overhand fast ball, and Jean pops in from the back foul. That'll catch the wire.
- 1:13:33O ball, two strikes.
- 1:13:49Go back, trying to fair it on here. Get out of it. It's cheaply as possible.
- 1:13:54He's off the
- 1:13:56and he's down half the fifth inning, giving up two runs.
- 1:13:59He delivers the play to Anne Freeh. Takes the curve in there for strike three.
- 1:14:04Oh, that's a second odd. Go back, picked up number five.
- 1:14:10While we're waiting for Dick Brooks, I'd like to pass a message on to you from the American Tobacco Company for the big things in your lives.
- 1:14:17Be ready with United States savings bonds.
- 1:14:20Save the effective way. Save the automatic way.
- 1:14:23Save through payroll savings where you work or regularly at the bank.
- 1:14:33Dick Brooks, the leading hitter. Percentage rise on the bar. Ball clasps. Takes a curve high. Bucks go back to ball one.
- 1:14:40Low hit into a double play in the first inning and then came along in the fourth inning and doubled to left center. He was on when Skinner unloaded his two run home run.
- 1:14:48There were two outs at the time.
- 1:14:52Bob Cometti, who has hit him, the go ahead run for Fitzburg, his little lead, fired runner in first base.
- 1:14:58Go back still concerned with him as he gets ready to pitch to Grove.
- 1:15:02Down the levers, the fast ball is tied outside. Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:15:07The par is here in the first inning. He scored two runs on a single, a triple and a single in that order.
- 1:15:14Two runs on three hits.
- 1:15:21Go back, checking up on Cometti in first base as hard as he holds it there.
- 1:15:26Now they do nothing to every unright hand batting Dick Grove.
- 1:15:30Fast ball and Dick swings on it's target.
- 1:15:34Two balls, one strike.
- 1:15:37The other four innings from the Delphiets three and a giant one.
- 1:15:41The Yanks and Lyas after the fourth came up with a run.
- 1:15:47The other four and a half innings, the Yankees out in front four, nothing over Baltimore.
- 1:15:52The end of three full at St. Louis three and Milwaukee nothing.
- 1:15:58Just a right hand Chicago tied at the end of two one one.
- 1:16:02The others pitch is swung on and hit away foul.
- 1:16:05Spins back as he meant.
- 1:16:15Two balls, two strikes, two outs, one on.
- 1:16:17Top half of the fifth inning.
- 1:16:19Two runs and some short by Fitzberg and that picks up the lead here in the top half of the fifth inning.
- 1:16:24Score four three.
- 1:16:28All set now to pitch to Dick Grove.
- 1:16:32Comes down to him with a slow curve and goes after it and hits a high foul ball.
- 1:16:36He'll spin away from Hodges as he runs to the stands.
- 1:17:01The soft curve is taken by Grove.
- 1:17:09Four three.
- 1:17:11Dick's got to go for that high one.
- 1:17:13Laid off at just the time.
- 1:17:16So with two outs and a three two count on Dick Grove.
- 1:17:19But Lometti at first base can be off and running from Fitzberg.
- 1:17:26He wouldn't go back off.
- 1:17:31Lometti goes, the pitch is swung on and followed away into the stands off first base side.
- 1:17:51Lometti gets the foul ball, which is up and out of the reach of his spectators.
- 1:17:59Three two count now on Dick Grove.
- 1:18:01Lometti ready to break again.
- 1:18:03He bowls instead as Kovac turns and throws first.
- 1:18:09Hodges returns it.
- 1:18:14Top half,
- 1:18:19Lometti drives.
- 1:18:23Top arrives right along.
- 1:18:25Three two.
- 1:18:30The Giants is not far in the fifth inning.
- 1:18:34Goadard will be leading them three to one at the end of four and a half.
- 1:18:48Lometti is still in the Brooklyn ball stand.
- 1:18:50Richard Fitz.
- 1:18:52The trade is taken inside for ball four.
- 1:18:55The third one.
- 1:18:56That'll move for many to hundred seconds.
- 1:19:00Alderholtz comes off the foot of the bench and he's moving out pretty fast.
- 1:19:07Third one's given a pass Andy.
- 1:19:11Time for two out to two on from behind here, four to three.
- 1:19:18Maybe they're going to bring Clint LeBion in now to fix to what's down here, Skinner.
- 1:19:24Big fella takes quite a cut with that chilele.
- 1:19:29Got under one and sent a sky high pop up back into very short that field.
- 1:19:34The second inning.
- 1:19:42For his ninth home run of the year.
- 1:19:46Lometti has given him his instructions.
- 1:19:52The MGR man comes walking back now to put some bench.
- 1:19:57Two out, Lometti is on his second, Big Grove is on his first.
- 1:20:04Skinner sending in Bob Batting at three fourteen.
- 1:20:10Go back to the stretch, check of the runners, the rovers play pictures low.
- 1:20:15One ball, no strikes.
- 1:20:26Big fella asked, wait on fire, Baker for a new ball.
- 1:20:29Walks one way back to the mound before firing it out to Colpax.
- 1:20:35Bob Lometti, Pittsburgh right fielder, is there a place for runners in second?
- 1:20:40Big Grove, the Shrugs drop it first, two down here in the top of the fifth inning.
- 1:20:43Pittsburgh two times to pick up the lead for three.
- 1:20:46Colpax delivers, Skinner takes.
- 1:20:48The pitch is under the knee.
- 1:20:50It's ball two.
- 1:20:58Pittsburgh and Brooklyn will be playing a doubleheader here at Heavensfield tomorrow.
- 1:21:03So, Maglin and Roger Craig are scheduled to be the Brooklyn starting pitchers against Bob Friend and Charles Wammy Douglas.
- 1:21:19Bob Colpax ready to pitch to Skinner on the turn up he's got.
- 1:21:23Runners with leads in first and second.
- 1:21:27Colpax down to the plate.
- 1:21:30Skinner takes.
- 1:21:31He's got that ball, a little again, that's ball three.
- 1:21:53Colpax to the guy Skinner gives you the impression he's trying to aim these pitches.
- 1:22:00He'll ride them in there just where he wants them.
- 1:22:02Left behind three nothing.
- 1:22:03Delivers, left ball, inside off the hand, ball four and that blows her up.
- 1:22:10Colpax goes out to second.
- 1:22:12Wammy moves over to third.
- 1:22:14Walter Rostes says, I've seen it now.
- 1:22:16I get the messy.
- 1:22:18They bring me on Kreml by.
- 1:22:20Puts right out of the book from Roger Craig.
- 1:22:22I just motioned down to pretend to come on in.
- 1:22:25Colpax goes four and two third innings.
- 1:22:30He's behind four three.
- 1:22:33Kreml by comes on.
- 1:22:38We check up on Kreml by's record.
- 1:22:42I think then has all of the particulars on the ball games that are being played this afternoon.
- 1:22:46So let's get over to Redhead here and find out what's going on.
- 1:22:49Well the Giants and the Phillies at the end are four and a half innings to play.
- 1:22:53The Giants won.
- 1:22:55Sanford joins.

- 1:27:53LeBarn delivers, one-two, and they pitch a short iron and loop.
- 1:27:57LeBarn is going into very short left corner.
- 1:28:01Going back, he's trying to make it open to shoulder, running right back.
- 1:28:05And they're turning.

- 1:28:28Player at sixth, Dodgers three, Jim Gilliam coming up and right back to Al.
- 1:28:33Well, where this ball came started, and he early searches of it,
- 1:28:36it looks as though running side would be around very long.
- 1:28:40He's not only around, he's ahead.
- 1:28:42Fitzberg leads at sixth and three, and Klein is now ready to pitch to Jim Gilliam to start things in the last half of his set.
- 1:28:48Gilliam is over two.
- 1:28:51LeBarn comes in there with a fast ball, right under the letter, and it's like one.
- 1:29:00Six runs, seven hits for Fitzberg, three runs, three hits for Brooklyn.
- 1:29:06Slide back to the place of Gilliam.
- 1:29:09Splats at him, hits a bounding ball to second, Mazurowski doubles it up, fires first base, and Gilliam goes down.
- 1:29:18On the way in the bottom of the fifth inning, Eno Camole making his first appearance of the afternoon
- 1:29:24after having taken over defensively for Val Perillo in the fifth inning.
- 1:29:31Camole batting at three, oh three, with nine home runs, seven forty-four runs batted in.
- 1:29:46Gets his motion started, the gangly right-hander delivers, Camole takes a fast ball, laid in at the waist.
- 1:29:52Looks like one.
- 1:29:58One off, bases up to the bottom of the fifth.
- 1:30:00Fitzberg six, Brooklyn three.
- 1:30:04LeBarn with an overhand fast ball, gets it in there low.
- 1:30:07Camole's top one ball, the front strike.
- 1:30:11Repeating at the end of three, St. Louis three, Milwaukee nothing.
- 1:30:14Central out of Chicago to side up at two, one and one.
- 1:30:22The bench to Camole, the clear ball, right under his chin, he just has to set back, takes ball two.
- 1:30:29One on Eno.
- 1:30:36Slide back to action on the two one count, fires fast ball and then slips up the middle,
- 1:30:40he does slips up, Coat has the ball bounce away from him, he can't make a play as Camole gets on it first base on,
- 1:30:46Coat's fielding error.
- 1:30:55That's the second Fitzberg error, so many were charged with a throwing error earlier in the ball game.
- 1:31:03Coat's charged with a fielding error, the batter is with Snyder, one on one on here in the fifth inning.
- 1:31:10Snyder has doubled his run, so he's one to one.
- 1:31:16Mountains wideły at two, he's leading the run, back and society green won't let him.
- 1:31:32St. Louis compassion.
- 1:31:42After two, the straights off the fish goes to get the tornadoes.
- 1:31:45That's strike two.
- 1:31:48The latest hear is from Milwaukee.
- 1:31:51At the end of four and one-and-a-half innings, it's still St. Louis three and Milwaukee nothing.
- 1:32:00Time to replace the slider on the fastball and follow the ways of the Duke.
- 1:32:04Time remains strike two.
- 1:32:06Left and right hander up throwing down at the Pittsburgh bulls there.
- 1:32:10In case Ryan has any more trouble here in this inning.

- 1:33:33Well, five beginnings have been completed here at Ebbets Field.
- 1:33:36And as we go to the top of the sixth inning with Verdon coming on,
- 1:33:40we see that Pittsburgh has six runs, seven hits, and two errors, and Brooklyn's three runs, three hits, and no errors.
- 1:33:45Thank you. Hi, everybody.
- 1:33:47Bill Verdon has walked in the singles batting 261.
- 1:33:51LeBine sends him a stinker, a little low ball one.
- 1:33:58Verdon foils and climbs the way the Pirates should do up here in the sixth.
- 1:34:04LeBine comes back 1-0, and the pitcher's tapped slowly halfway to the mound.
- 1:34:07LeBine down the field, it gets his man. One up, one away.
- 1:34:12Hank foils has hit into a double play and tripled into the alleyway in right center in the fifth inning.
- 1:34:19Hank batting 270.
- 1:34:32Lucky strike, blowing smoke rings to U-Found at the field in Brooklyn, which is the very best wherever you may be.
- 1:34:39LeBine fastball in for the strike on one.
- 1:34:43Lovely day in New York, and the suspects have fine weather for tomorrow's double header, Bob Friend and Charlie Douglas,
- 1:34:50probably Magley and Craig for Brooklyn.
- 1:34:55Pitch is outside, one ball, one strike.
- 1:34:59Pirates six, Dodgers three in the sixth inning.
- 1:35:03New route at Milwaukee at the end of four and a half, Cardinal three, braves nothing.
- 1:35:13The one-one pitch, curve ball, cut on a miss, one and two.
- 1:35:18Fine looks in to get a sign, now Clem Lurie, and one and two pitch to Hank foils, just outside, two and two.
- 1:35:36We have over 6,000 not-hold youngsters here today as guests of the management.
- 1:35:42Happy to see all the kids out at the ballpark. Voice perpetual motion too in the upper left field stands.
- 1:35:54LeBine delivers two and two, sidearm curve, fouled away.
- 1:35:58Count remains two and two.
- 1:36:01The Cardinals did not score in the sixth inning, so now at the end of five and a half,
- 1:36:13and into play, Cardinal three, Milwaukee nothing.
- 1:36:16Larry Jackson and Lou Bredette.
- 1:36:19Cardinal snapped a nine-game losing streak last night, and in winning, broke a Milwaukee ten-game winning streak.
- 1:36:28The two-two pitch to Hank foils, sharp curve, but he checked his ring and the pitch is low, ball three.
- 1:36:36Full count.
- 1:36:38The Cardinals are in the sixth inning.
- 1:36:56Pitch is in there, Carl strike three.
- 1:36:59The Cardinals are in the sixth inning.
- 1:37:06Hank foils, card looking, two down now in the sixth inning, and Ronnie Klein coming up.
- 1:37:12Klein has struck out twice today.
- 1:37:15He has four hits this year.
- 1:37:17Two out, bases empty in the sixth inning. Pirates six, Brooklyn three.
- 1:37:21When the Dodgers bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, they'll have Vallow, Neal, and Campanella.
- 1:37:29Pass ball fouled away on one.
- 1:37:32Six, three, Pittsburgh, two out on the sixth.
- 1:37:54The Binders wind up, and the strike one pitch, pass ball fouled to play on two.
- 1:38:00And Campanella right in the chest protector, right in the middle of the chest, and shook him up.
- 1:38:13Going to Ronnie Klein.
- 1:38:16Strike two pitch to Ronnie.
- 1:38:21Sharp curve, it stays high, ball one, one and two.
- 1:38:25Strike two pitch to Ronnie. Sharp curve, it stays high, ball one, one and two.
- 1:38:40Klein trying to squeeze a wrinkle into that ball. Klein just waiting.
- 1:38:45Now, Klein ready, and one and two pitch, tight on curve, high and away, two and two.
- 1:39:04Klein working very slowly and deliberately on Ronnie Klein, trying to nail him now to close out the inning.
- 1:39:09Two balls, two strikes.
- 1:39:16Klein ready, and the two twoers thinker outside, ball three.
- 1:39:21The Binder delivers three and two.
- 1:39:35Pitch cut on and fouled away in the upper deck off first base, so to count, remain three balls, two strikes.
- 1:39:41Sandy Koufax started when four and two thirds and had to come out, all six runs, charging in Sandy.
- 1:39:51Ronnie Klein has had some rough luck this year, he has three wins and 15 defeats.
- 1:39:56He's still in there for Pittsburgh.
- 1:39:59Three two pitch to Mr. Klein and it's rat fouled into the seats off first base.
- 1:40:15Three and two to Klein on Debra Clemente, fire at six, Dodger three, in the sixth inning with two outs.
- 1:40:26Klein waiting.
- 1:40:29Now LeBine is ready and the three two pitch cut on and hit fouled on the right field line, so it's quite a duel going on, Ronnie Klein and Clem LeBine.
- 1:40:45Hope you'll be able to make your plans and be with us tomorrow for the double header, plenty of seats for it.
- 1:40:50Weatherman says he's going to be fine.
- 1:40:53Both are playing a game of scoreboard out here and watch the Cardinal Milwaukee double header.
- 1:40:57Three two pitch is taken at the knees called strike three, so Ronnie Klein for the third time today strikes out.
- 1:41:04LeBine strikes out two men now.
- 1:41:07For the Pirates in the sixth they go out in order at the end of five and a half innings of play, Pittsburgh six and Brooklyn three.
- 1:41:12Now let's get over to Al.
- 1:41:14Well baseball experts, here comes another Lucky Strike baseball quiz.
- 1:41:18The first moment to relax in life, a better tasting Lucky Strike.
- 1:41:23Yes, there's fine tobacco alone, tastes right.
- 1:41:26And Lucky Strike means fine tobacco.
- 1:41:28All fine tobacco, naturally like good tasting tobacco that's toasted, tastes even better.
- 1:41:34So light up a light smoke, light up a Lucky.
- 1:41:37You'll say it's the best tasting cigarette you ever smoked.
- 1:41:42Now here's our Lucky Strike baseball quiz.
- 1:41:45Who holds the modern major league record for the most innings pitch in a season?
- 1:41:51Who holds the modern major league record for the most innings pitch in a season?
- 1:41:57Well the answer is in 1908, Big Ed Walt of the Chicago White Sox pitched 464 innings for the modern major league record.
- 1:42:07Well that fact can be found on page 150 of the Schaefer Lucky Strike baseball guide and record book.
- 1:42:13Now just the limited supply of these fine books are left, fans, so get yours right away.
- 1:42:18Send 50 cents, your name and address, to baseballguide.com, box 35, Brooklyn one, New York.
- 1:42:30And now Vinnie sends us along into the last half of inning number six.
- 1:42:34Elmer Vallow to lead it off.
- 1:42:36Elmer has walked and flied to right.
- 1:42:38And the Dodger bullpen now hard to begin to stir and Don Drysdale loosening up.
- 1:42:42Vallow, Neal and Campanella.
- 1:42:46Elmer hitting 314.
- 1:42:51The three pirates bottom of the sixth inning.
- 1:42:54Vallow settles in the hitters box and Klein ready to pitch.
- 1:42:57Ronny delivers for a strike on one.
- 1:43:02Outfield split on Elmer, big gap in left center.
- 1:43:10Klein ready and the strike one-fifth cut on and hit down to Bill Mazurowski who just waits for it to come to him and then throws the first.
- 1:43:17One up, one away.
- 1:43:24Charlie Neal hit back to the box and walks.
- 1:43:26Charlie hitting 268.
- 1:43:31The Dodgers led three-nothing, the pirates.
- 1:43:34Two in the fourth inning and then came up with four runs in the fifth. So they have the lead six-three.
- 1:43:41Ronny Klein delivers and Charlie Neal fouled it at the plate on one.
- 1:43:56Klein ready, strike one pitch to Neal. Just outside, one ball, one strike.
- 1:44:15One-one to Charlie Neal, fastball admitted, ball two, two and one.
- 1:44:21Magley and Craig, Friend and Douglas in the doubleheader tomorrow.
- 1:44:31Klein comes back to Neal two-one, the fastball is tapped down to short.
- 1:44:34Groats charges, short hops it, flips over to first and we have two outs.
- 1:44:44Roy Campanella is two for two in a home run with Elmer Vallow aboard in the second inning and got a bad bounce single off Dick Groats' glove in the fourth.
- 1:44:52Can't beat two for two batting 243.
- 1:45:04Outfield on Campanella, deep straight away.
- 1:45:09Klein delivers and the curveball is outside, ball one.
- 1:45:16The Pirates and the Dodgers have played some good ball games this year, low scoring affairs.
- 1:45:22Two series at Pittsburgh have really been something.
- 1:45:25One-oh pitch is on the corner for strike one-on-one.
- 1:45:29Earlier this year, if you remember, in a four-game series, the scores were four-three, three-two, two-one and one-nothing.
- 1:45:37Tough one, one-on-one is just outside, ball two, two-one-one.
- 1:45:41It's also reflected when you look at the series, this is the 19th meeting, the Dodgers have won ten and the Pirates eight.
- 1:45:51The two-one pitch to Campanella, fastball at the knees for a strike, two-and-two.
- 1:45:55In game play here at Everett Field, the Dodgers have taken four of six.
- 1:46:02I'll bet you the Pirates are about as tough a last place club at home as they have been around in a long time.
- 1:46:08Two-suit pitch to Campanella, cut on and looped to center field.
- 1:46:11Burton, it was deep, it was charging, but it dropped into the base hit.
- 1:46:15So it's two-out, Campanella single-percented for his third hit, he's three-foot-three.
- 1:46:22So it's really been, I guess, offensively, the Pirates against Campanella for the Dodgers have only four hits and Roy has three of them.
- 1:46:29Don Zimmer, the batter, is bounced out and struck out, hitting two-twenty-four.
- 1:46:38Zimmer might very well call the future of LeBine in this one, that's what he does up there at the plate.
- 1:46:43First pitch, a little high, ball one.
- 1:46:45With Drysdale throwing down on the bullpen, and the pitcher's spot due to follow Zimmer.
- 1:46:52He gets on, Austin might go to his bench.
- 1:46:56LeBine takes a look at Campanella, one-oh-fifth, the fastball, in for the strike, one-on-one.
- 1:47:02The Woky Braves have come up with two runs in the sixth inning.
- 1:47:06That's a tough one out there, Cardinal Three and Braves, too.
- 1:47:09The end of the sixth, Red Caned, he's got a home run with a man aboard to get the two over in a hurry.
- 1:47:15So one-one to Zimmer, fastball, a line drive on a bounce into center field for the base hit.
- 1:47:20Cabanella stops at second.
- 1:47:22Roy is not running well at all, I don't know whether he just decided he wouldn't take a turn or if that toe of his is bothering him,
- 1:47:28but he was kind of running very gingerly down toward second.
- 1:47:32All right, Zimmer singles, Cabanella goes to second, and Rube Walker will hit for Clem LeBine.
- 1:47:38That is a first and second, two out on the sixth inning, six plays at first.
- 1:47:52And a Roy face in the pirate bullpen as Rube Walker is announced for the crowd.
- 1:47:58Rube batting two hundred.
- 1:48:01His two home runs and 16 runs ratted in.
- 1:48:07Clem LeBine works an inning in the third.
- 1:48:10He's up ahead with no run.
- 1:48:14He's got two.
- 1:48:16Rube Walker hitting for LeBine here in the sixth.
- 1:48:21Oh, we'll see Don Drysdale in the seventh inning.
- 1:48:29Ronnie Klein in a jam now, just staring in to get his time.
- 1:48:34Rube Walker waiting.
- 1:48:36Rube Walker is a base run as a pitcher to play, then Walker takes low, ball one.
- 1:48:40On back, Jim Gilliam.
- 1:48:54Klein delivers one-oh to Walker.
- 1:48:56Check the swing and that pitch is low, ball two.
- 1:48:58Don't know, Ronnie's starting to dig a hole now.
- 1:49:01He's got a second and trying to stay off his left foot, I believe.
- 1:49:06I think it's bothering him.
- 1:49:08And Don Zimmer, a big lead at first, since the right side of the infield is deep.
- 1:49:13The two and all pitch to Walker, cut on and fouled away.
- 1:49:17Two and one.
- 1:49:22The end of this inning, we'll have a complete rundown of all the scorers,
- 1:49:25the pitchers involved, any home runs that might have been hit in both leagues.
- 1:49:33Two and one, the count to Finchetta Rube Walker.
- 1:49:37Six free pirates throughout on the sixth inning.
- 1:49:43Klein up on top now already, and the two-one pitch, Walker swings and fouls it away.
- 1:49:47Two and two.
- 1:49:571835 ladies, 6,000 not-all youngsters, they're all told, 14,665.
- 1:50:09The right side deuces up here in the sixth inning, 6,315.
- 1:50:21Staring down the barrel, now he's ready. The two-two pitch, Walker takes in there, call, strike three.
- 1:50:40The towel comes flying out of the Dodger dugout as Walker stays up at home plate to argue with played on fire Phil Baker.
- 1:50:47Now for all the other scorers, here's Al.
- 1:51:05He's got three and Milwaukee has two. Jackson for thing good and for Milwaukee it is for death.
- 1:51:31The Yankees over Baltimore with chance going for the Yankees more starting for Baltimore.
- 1:51:59And the first with the bases loaded. It is ninth home run of the year for the White Sox.
- 1:52:28The Yankees nine home run.
- 1:52:55The walk was called out on strikes. A lot of the Dodgers getting on plate on fire Bill Baker.
- 1:53:24Keep an eye out on that Cardinal Milwaukee ballgame for you as soon as we have anything further to report.
- 1:53:35At the moment, the number six is three-two Cardinals.
- 1:53:42Guy's a little bent at the waist to get his time and have a lanky right end already.
- 1:53:46Sidearm curve is cut on a high foul back of the plate. Campanella starts to come back, but he has no play.
- 1:53:53One ball, two strikes to Bob Clemente.
- 1:54:11Clemente frees and grows the way the Pirates did here in the seventh.
- 1:54:19Guy's there already. The one and two pitchers from that a sidearm fastball at the fair just inside the right field line and down into the Dodger bullpen.
- 1:54:28By the time that Somali surrounded down there in the corner, Clemente has himself a stand up double.
- 1:54:34So Clemente doubles into the right field corner to open up things in the seventh inning.
- 1:54:41That ball took a couple of tricky hops after it went into the bullpen and hit the protective railing in front of the dugout down there.
- 1:54:47All the way down under the old wooden bench.
- 1:54:50Somali at second base.
- 1:54:54Nobody out on the batter, Gene Freeze struck out twice and popped up hitting 281.
- 1:55:01Pirates six, Dodgers three, seventh inning.
- 1:55:13Freeze waiting, Guy's there already and delivers Gene around the bunch and withdraws the bat and the pitchers in for a strike on one.
- 1:55:20Dodgers ready to come to the plate. Zimmer playing catty corner at third.
- 1:55:33On one.
- 1:55:39Drysdale has a sign out turns on the rubber check second and the strike one pitch freeze does but it drives down along with Zimmer.
- 1:55:46They bump together and there won't be a play made.
- 1:55:53Zimmer charging the bunch.
- 1:55:56Guy's they all coming down off the mound had his back to third base and Zimmer bumped into him and both men just overran the ball.
- 1:56:04No one cuts it for Freeze has himself a bunch single. Somali advancing to third.
- 1:56:13Runs at first and third with nobody out.
- 1:56:18The batter Dick Grode hitting 332.
- 1:56:32Infield drawn up now as Grode settles in. Dick is one for two hit into a double play doubled and won.
- 1:56:40Guy's there already, checks his runners.
- 1:56:45Now delivers to Grode side arm fastball not halfway to the mound.
- 1:56:48Cavanaugh plays to first base Somali holds at third.
- 1:56:52Down to second goes Gene Freeze.
- 1:56:56He taps out and Freeze advances to second run as a second and third one out and the batter Bob Skinner.
- 1:57:06Skinner today pops out at a two run home run in the fourth inning and won.
- 1:57:11Betting 314.
- 1:57:13The first base open so we'll see how they play it now.
- 1:57:15Frank Thomas on deck.
- 1:57:17And they'll put him on.
- 1:57:18So Bob Skinner will get an intentional walk and they'll concentrate on Frank Thomas.
- 1:57:28Guy's there, serves up his second wide one.
- 1:57:33Good time to light up a cigarette huh?
- 1:57:35Do you like one?
- 1:57:37Try a light smoke, try a lucky strike.
- 1:57:49Bob Skinner gets his intentional walk and traps to first.
- 1:57:53Gene Freeze at second, Bob Somali at third.
- 1:57:56One out on the seventh inning, Pirates 6, Rogers 3 and the batter Frank Thomas.
- 1:58:02Frank is bounced out and singled and doubled.
- 1:58:05Thomas hitting 301.
- 1:58:08The infield and double play death now.
- 1:58:11On deck, Bill Majurovski.
- 1:58:14Don Besson begins to throw in the Brooklyn Bullpen.
- 1:58:20Dysdale checks his men, goes to a full windup and delivers a curve and on the inside corner for a strike on one.
- 1:58:36Six three Pirates are trying to get some more here in the seventh.
- 1:58:39Dysdale trying to keep him away.
- 1:58:45Dysdale into his windup and the strike one fifth.
- 1:58:50The Cardinals do not score in the seventh.
- 1:58:53The Braves are at bat in the bottom of the seventh.
- 1:58:56The Cardinals lead three to two.
- 1:59:07On to the count of Frank Thomas.
- 1:59:09Bases loaded, one out.
- 1:59:13Dysdale ready and the strike two fifth.
- 1:59:15Curve ball got him swinging.
- 1:59:21Dysdale going curves to Thomas, strikes him out.
- 1:59:25Two down and here's Bill Majurovski.
- 1:59:29Majurovski struck out, hit into a fourth play and popped up batting 289.
- 1:59:42Dysdale winds and delivers.
- 1:59:44Curve ball cut on a miss for a strike on one.
- 1:59:51Gene Freeze, real little frisky down there at second on a pitch of a play he ran halfway to third and kind of looked at Clemente and backed off again.
- 2:00:01On one.
- 2:00:04Dysdale delivers a strike one pitch and the curve is filed away outside of first.
- 2:00:12On two.
- 2:00:23With two strikes on Majurovski, Walter Alton is calling his outfield in particular, Duke Snyder to come up and play a little more shallow.
- 2:00:32Majurovski beat Brooklyn a ball game at Ford Field, looping one into center.
- 2:00:37Strike two fifths.
- 2:00:39Curve in the dirt, blocked nicely by Campanella.
- 2:00:41One ball, two strikes.
- 2:00:45Pirates six, Dodgers three.
- 2:00:46Two out on the seventh inning.
- 2:00:48The Bucks have the bases loaded.
- 2:00:50Bob Skinner at first.
- 2:00:51Gene Freeze at second.
- 2:00:52Bob Clemente at third.
- 2:00:54One and two to Majurovski.
- 2:00:57Gilliam, Simoli and Snyder when the Dodgers hit in the bottom of the seventh.
- 2:01:06Dysdale takes no.
- 2:01:08Now down to his wind up and the one and two pitch.
- 2:01:10Curve ball just outside and low, two and two.
- 2:01:26Milwaukee did not score in the seventh.
- 2:01:28So at the end of seventh, Cardinal three, Milwaukee two.
- 2:01:33Dysdale delivers two to curve ball, got him swinging.
- 2:01:42Don Drysdale with the bases loaded and one out.
- 2:01:45Strikes out by Thomas and Bill Majurovski.
- 2:01:50The end of sixth and a half running to play and remains Pirates six and Dodgers three.
- 2:01:56And before we get to the bottom of the seventh inning, let's listen to Al.
- 2:02:00Well, a lucky seventh.
- 2:02:01Time for all the hometown fans to stand up and be counted.
- 2:02:05I guess I'll do likewise.
- 2:02:07Stretched way out.
- 2:02:09That feels good.
- 2:02:11Lucky strike means fine tobacco and fine tobacco alone tastes right.
- 2:02:16That's great.
- 2:02:18You know, that's why they say lucky stays better.
- 2:02:22Friend light up a light smoke, light up a light.
- 2:02:25You'll say it's the best tasting cigarette you ever smoked.
- 2:02:46William Somali and Snyder.
- 2:02:49We start things for the Dodgers in the last half of the seventh inning.
- 2:02:52Six runs, nine hits and two errors.
- 2:02:54Pittsburgh for Brooklyn, three runs, five hits and nowhere.
- 2:02:57Back to the action.
- 2:02:58All set Ben.
- 2:02:59Right Al.
- 2:03:00Jim Gilliam has flied to center and twice bounced out batting two forty nine.
- 2:03:05Gilliam, Somali and Snyder bottom of the seventh.
- 2:03:08The Pirates leading six to three.
- 2:03:11Gene Freeze playing way inside the baguette third right on the grass.
- 2:03:15Line delivers Gilliam takes outside and high ball one one and all.
- 2:03:25Remember that double headed tomorrow now Bob friend and Charlie Douglas.
- 2:03:29Now manly and Roger Craig for Brooklyn fastball filed away one and one.
- 2:03:46Line making his twenty third start.
- 2:03:49He's completed five ballgame.
- 2:03:52Ronnie delivers one one Gilliam looks to the slow curve and admits his outside ball to turn one.
- 2:04:07To one said the junior fastball in there.
- 2:04:10Gilliam mad now walks away from the batter's box his jaws are working.
- 2:04:15He goes over to get the rising bag from the on deck batter.
- 2:04:18He knows the moly and now some voices out of the Dodger dug out and here comes Bill Baker and I think somebody's going to get the food.
- 2:04:26Well Austin comes out and starts to argue the break here but I think somebody's been saying and you can trade all this bitterness not so much on that bit to Gilliam.
- 2:04:36But on the two to fit the road walker that was a call.
- 2:04:39Right. Three in the sixth inning the Dodgers are still smarting about that one and it finally erupted here in the seventh and we'll see if somebody's been paid.
- 2:04:49Often going back into the dugout.
- 2:04:52I didn't see anybody get up yet so it might just have been a warning.
- 2:04:59No one is moved.
- 2:05:02The two to pitch now to Jim Gilliam fastball foul back.
- 2:05:10For ball players have memories like elephant.
- 2:05:15They can remember a call from weeks ago.
- 2:05:20The two to pitch a curveball hit down the growth left because up with it goes over the first in time one up one away.
- 2:05:31Got a station break in right now. This is the Brooklyn Dodgers radio network.
- 2:05:39Dial 1460 W.O.K.O. your Brooklyn Dodgers station in Albany New York.
- 2:05:44Ten minutes past four o'clock W.O.K.O. time.
- 2:05:52You know Somali the batter and here comes Baker again and he dropped his mask as he walked over towards the dugout and somebody's going this time. That's no doubt about it.
- 2:06:01Big Don Newcomb has been given the boot.
- 2:06:05We hit the air Baker world around and walked in over to the dugout and Newcomb is gone.
- 2:06:12We didn't see him leave but as I guess it might be the Johnny Padres was chased.
- 2:06:16You'll have to check with that record. We know Newcomb left. You could see Don get up and go.
- 2:06:22We'll check about Padres. The first to do not Somali foul back on one.
- 2:06:35The Dodger bench boiling and Newcomb has been kicked out.
- 2:06:40And we're going to check and see if Padres is safe. Strike one for curveball into the strike going to one of the boys on the other side of the boot.
- 2:06:49A little bit better angle and saw Padres get up and leave the bench.
- 2:06:53Whether he was told to go on that we have to wait and see.
- 2:06:56The only two bits to Somali fastball foul the way.
- 2:07:07One out bottom of the seven pirate six Dodger three.
- 2:07:13The only two bits curveball cut on and missed and down goes Somali.
- 2:07:20Ronnie Klein.
- 2:07:22And retired too many on the seventh inning leading six to three and facing Duke Snyder now.
- 2:07:29That is double watch and fouled out batting to eighty one.
- 2:07:40Not awaiting client delivers and the best is cut on and found a way on one.
- 2:07:45And we don't have confirmation about Johnny Padres.
- 2:07:48He also was kicked out of the ballgame.
- 2:07:51The ball both Don Newcomb and Johnny Padres chased from the bench by a play on fire Bill Baker.
- 2:08:01Bouncer into the hole on the right side.
- 2:08:03Maserati juggles stays with it and makes his play.
- 2:08:08The Dodgers go out on the seventh inning one two three and at the end of seven.
- 2:08:12So remains Pittsburgh six runs nine hits and two errors.
- 2:08:15The Dodgers three runs five hits and no errors.
- 2:08:18Before we get to the eighth here's Al.
- 2:08:21We'd like to remind all of your friends that there is a limited number of the Schaefer Lucky Strike baseball guide and record book left.
- 2:08:29So if you haven't your copy it might be a good idea to get an action right away and get yours.
- 2:08:35All you have to do to get the Schaefer Lucky Strike baseball guide and record book.
- 2:08:39A little article is really crammed full of a lot of baseball information.
- 2:08:43Send 50 cents your name and address to baseball guide box 35 Brooklyn one New York.
- 2:08:55That's 50 cents your name and address to baseball guide box 35 Brooklyn one New York.
- 2:09:02You'll be glad to have that Schaefer Lucky Strike baseball guide and record book.
- 2:09:06There's an awful lot of time and many times an awful lot of arguments.
- 2:09:12There's quite an argument going here at Everett Field 6 3 in favor of the Pirates right now as we move to the top of the eighth inning.
- 2:09:18The last third of the part batting order.
- 2:09:20It's still burden stepping up.
- 2:09:22Well there's no argument at Washington.
- 2:09:24The Washington Panthers lead the Boston Red Sox at the end of the sixth inning 16 to nothing.
- 2:09:31Case closed.
- 2:09:34Bill Burden playing at a high drive the deep left center field.
- 2:09:37That's a way out there and curving towards the stands and gone in the second row seat.
- 2:09:43So Bill Burden whacks one out his eighth home run.
- 2:09:54Oh that makes it fire at seven Brooklyn three.
- 2:09:58We pick up another thousand free lucky to be sent to the veterans farm from the Northport Long Island.
- 2:10:05Seven three Pittsburgh in the eighth.
- 2:10:09The Cardinals didn't score in the eighth to the Braves right back failing three to two in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- 2:10:15Here's a foil one for three a triple.
- 2:10:19I felt curbs in the Mrs. Ball one while getting to sixty nine hit into a double play tripled and struck out.
- 2:10:32One open fastball grounded down the Neal Sally up with a clean lead makes his way to Hodges in time for the out.
- 2:10:45Ronnie Klein coming up Ronnie has had a gritty performance.
- 2:10:52He gave us three runs in the first two running the only time in today's ballgame he has retired the Dodgers in order was in the seventh inning.
- 2:11:02He's hung in there and he's leading seven play here in the eighth inning.
- 2:11:06Line with four hits this year.
- 2:11:08I felt fastball is in for the strike on one from the Dodgers bad in the bottom of the eighth they'll have Hodges Valor and Neil.
- 2:11:22Like one third on curve and a half swing it's over onto.
- 2:11:39I felt the letters are thank you for it and the curve is low ball one one and two.
- 2:11:47I had seven runs on 10 hits two of them have been home runs committed to those Dodgers three runs five hits no errors.
- 2:11:56That on curve is just low to improve.
- 2:12:10I feel the letters fastball filed away outside of first Hodges running it down to ball to strike.
- 2:12:22Got a six thousand eight hundred and thirty on and we have eighteen hundred ladies here and six thousand not hold young to my crowd on a pleasant Saturday.
- 2:12:31Hope you'll be with us tomorrow for the double header to be a good one to pitch is low ball three Bob friend and Charlie Douglas for Pittsburgh and the Dodgers countering with Kyle Magley and Roger Craig.
- 2:12:54I said the letters three and two fastball is in there and for the fourth time today Ronnie Klein is struck out and he has kind of a sheepish grin on his face as he started to walk away from the plate.
- 2:13:06They don't pay Ronnie to hit.
- 2:13:11Two down on the batter Bob Clemente batting to fifty three. Bob is a single and a double and three at bat. You know also one.
- 2:13:24Seven three pirates two out of the eight.
- 2:13:42One pitch curve ball cut on a miss going to.
- 2:14:02The money waiting on to.
- 2:14:06Guys they'll deliver fastball low ball one one and two.
- 2:14:14The Philadelphia the Phillies knocked off the Giants three to one.
- 2:14:35The Dodgers are turning one run on one hit the home run by Bill Burton. Nobody left out and there were no errors at the end of seven and a half and into play the Pirates seven and the Dodgers three.
- 2:14:45Now here's Al what does the pitcher mean when he says I've got the book on the next batter.
- 2:14:50Well he's simply stating that he's got the complete starting report on that player.
- 2:14:54He knows how to pitch to him and how the team should play him.
- 2:14:58If he said he's got the book on real smoking enjoyment he's discovered the better taste of lucky strike.
- 2:15:05The back of our loan case right.
- 2:15:07And I have M.F.T. lucky strike means fine tobacco all the way through naturally like naturally good tasting tobacco that's posted to taste even better.
- 2:15:18Light up a light smoke light up a lot. Enjoy the best tasting cigarette you ever smoke.
- 2:15:35Not a lot of any number eight. I'm back to the mouth of the part we're leading in this ball game seven three. I just will be the first batter then Elmer battle for him and Charlie Neal will be up there swinging first.
- 2:15:50We're right in action now he's been.
- 2:15:52Well Gil Hodges has bounced out struck out and slide to right batting three or five.
- 2:16:01I just battle and Neil did anybody get on maybe Campanella.
- 2:16:12I just staring at his back to see if there any chips in it.
- 2:16:16Now get from the batter's back or about ready.
- 2:16:20Fine wines and delivers Ronnie's first pitch is over for the strike on one.
- 2:16:30He's got pretty good control.
- 2:16:31He's walk just three men look out five like one pitch fastball cut on a high drive to deep right field for many looking up and watching that ball it's going to hit against the starboard and for many goes up and grabs it.
- 2:16:47We have a pretty good breeze blowing from the right field corners planning over towards the left field corner and for many had given up on the ball.
- 2:16:54He had turned his back to the home plate and we're just going to play the count and then when that ball started to die in the breeze for many at the last second jumped against the boards and grabbed it.
- 2:17:05So I just rise to the bright one out in the eighth inning.
- 2:17:11Elmer Valo has walked right to right and bounced out batting 311 find the levers and almost swings and foul tips that on one
- 2:17:30Milwaukee Braves have come up with a run in the eighth inning to tie it out there.
- 2:17:36So Milwaukee with two runs in the sixth inning one of the eighth now tied to Cardinals three and three strike one pitch to Valo taken in there to seven three Pittsburgh bottom of the eighth inning one out on deck.
- 2:17:52Charlie Neal
- 2:17:58and ready and the thank you for that ball got him playing for Valo goes down big strikeout for Ronnie Klein and the batter Charlie Neal.
- 2:18:09I thought about the wind affecting that fly ball and I just hit me eighth inning.
- 2:18:13There are always a couple of people who disagree and say how can the wind bother baseball.
- 2:18:17It really can.
- 2:18:20There's an article in the Saturday Evening Post not long ago about the wind.
- 2:18:28Remember that buckle and fell down in a windstorm number of years ago.
- 2:18:32Neal swings it a bit and doesn't get it on one.
- 2:18:40At the end of seven and a half innings of play the Pirates seven and the Dodgers three.
- 2:18:45And here's Al. What does the pitcher mean when he says I've got the book on the next batter.
- 2:18:50Well he's simply stating that he's got the complete starting report on that player.
- 2:18:54He knows how to pitch to him and have a team should play him.
- 2:18:58Well now Ben if he said he's got the book on real smoking enjoyment he's discovered the better taste of Lucky Strike.
- 2:19:05Fine tobacco alone. And L.S.M.F.D. Lucky Strike means fine tobacco all the way through.
- 2:19:15Naturally light, naturally good tasting tobacco that's toasted to taste even better.
- 2:19:18So friend light up a light smoke. Light up a light smoke.
- 2:19:23The best tasting cigarette you ever smoke.
- 2:19:37Not a lot of a number eight.
- 2:19:40I climbed back to the mouth of the part we're leading in the ball game seven three.
- 2:19:45I just will be the first batter then Elmer Farrell follow him and Charlie Neal will be up there swinging third.
- 2:19:51We're right in action now. Here's Ben.
- 2:19:54Gil Hodges has bounced out struck out and fly to right batting three oh five.
- 2:20:02Hodges Vallow and Neal. Did anybody get on maybe Campanella.
- 2:20:13I just staring at his bat to see if there any chips in it. Now gets in the batter's back. We're about ready.
- 2:20:21Fine wines and delivers on his first pitch is over for the strike on one.
- 2:20:31Line is that pretty good control. He'd walk us three men.
- 2:20:34Look out five like one pitch fastball caught on a high drive to deep right field for many looking up and watching that ball.
- 2:20:43It's going to hit against the scoreboard and Clemente goes up and grabs it.
- 2:20:49We have a pretty good breeze blowing from the right field corners planning over towards the left field corner and for many had given up on the ball.
- 2:20:56He had turned his back to the home plate and was just going to play the count.
- 2:21:00And then when that ball started to die in the breeze Clemente at the last second jumped against the boards and grabbed it.
- 2:21:07Hodges flies to deep right one out in the eighth inning.
- 2:21:13Elmer Valo has walked wide to right and bounced out batting 311 find delivers and Elmer swings and foul tips it on one.
- 2:21:32Milwaukee Braves have come up with a run in the eighth inning to tie it out there.
- 2:21:38Milwaukee with two runs in the sixth inning one of the eighth now tied the Cardinals three and three.
- 2:21:44The strike one pitch to Valo taken in there on to seven play but third bottom of the eighth inning one out on deck Charlie Neal.
- 2:22:00Everybody and the strike two pitch fastball got him playing for Valo goes down big strikeout for Ronnie Klein and the batter Charlie Neal.
- 2:22:11No thought about the wind affecting that fly ball at Hodges hit in the eighth inning.
- 2:22:15There are always a couple of people who disagree and say how can the wind bother baseball.
- 2:22:19It really can.
- 2:22:22There was an article in the Saturday Evening Post not long ago about the wind.
- 2:22:27If you remember that bridge out in Tacoma Washington member that buckled and fell down in a wind storm number of years ago.
- 2:22:34Neal swings it up and doesn't get it on one.
- 2:22:37So we figured it must have been quite a wind to blow a bridge down.
- 2:22:42In the article explained the wind was only 40 miles per hour and it blew that monster down.
- 2:22:47Strike one pitch up high one and one. It doesn't take much of a breeze to affect a little baseball.
- 2:22:59The one one pitch to Charlie Neal curveball cut on and popped up going out as thick growth healing his eyes and the sun but calling all the way and makes the play.
- 2:23:09So for the second time today the Dodgers have gone out in order in the last two innings.
- 2:23:16Now the end of eight innings to play the Pirates seven and Brooklyn three and without further ado here's Al.
- 2:23:22When you visit Evans Field tomorrow for the big Sunday doubleheader when the Pittsburgh Pirates you'll find many mementos on the Evans Field souvenir stand.

- 2:24:14At the end of eight innings the Pittsburgh Pirates are leading the Brooklyn Dodgers seven three coming about now and the top half of the ninth inning will be free.
- 2:24:23Robert Skinner in that order.
- 2:24:29All right member Don Drysdale hoping to just keep the fire quiet in the nines and hoping the Dodgers get back into it in the bottom of the nine lengths in already.
- 2:24:42twice popped up and he was more hit that fun when Zimmer climbed up drysdale back and neither
- 2:24:48man could feel this for you sitting 283 swings at a slow curve way out in front of it on
- 2:24:53one nine sitting pirate seven Dodgers three a double headed coming up tomorrow like one
- 2:25:05pitch a half playing that's in there anyway on to please arguing a bit with play down
- 2:25:10by a bill Baker on to drysdale has a sign now the strike to fit that on fastball that
- 2:25:24jumped out of camp and I was up or one one and two
- 2:25:43drysdale ready now the one and two pitch to please curve loan outside to and through
- 2:26:04drysdale ready and the two two-bit start on curve low ball play full count to gene please
- 2:26:22I don't go back to the plate now it is fair that's followed away and can be got bitten
- 2:26:26on the right hand by that one ran through the end of eight innings the Cardinals three
- 2:26:35in Milwaukee three Don McMahon is now pitching in the ninth inning for Milwaukee it's conceivable
- 2:26:46however that Haney had hit for a bird that when the Braves got that run in the eighth
- 2:26:49inning three two pitch to gene phrase goes behind him and all the way back to the back
