SPEAKER_01: But he's like he also has like a totem pole, which I'll have to show you after this, of the Rick Majoris coach.
• 0:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and growing up as a kid.
• 0:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, growing up as a kid, he would like put it under my sheets in my bed, so I'd go to bed and like there's this creepy totem pole in my bed.
• 0:16
SPEAKER_01: It's like this big, like it's super tall.
• 0:18
  SPEAKER_01: It's just super it's gross.
• 0:19
SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, it says Utah at the bottom, and he has black eyes.
• 0:23
SPEAKER_01: Or he'd like put it in the corner of my room.
• 0:26
SPEAKER_01: So I'd walk in, there's someone in my room, I'd freak out.
• 0:30
  SPEAKER_01: It was terrible.
• 0:31
SPEAKER_01: Well, Jace, it's about time.
• 0:33
SPEAKER_01: It's about time we've had this happen.
• 0:35
SPEAKER_01: It's been it's been a while since the last time I saw you.
• 0:37
SPEAKER_01: Last time I saw you was in Leighton, where Mason was running a thousand miles around a track, which he did.
• 0:43
  SPEAKER_01: Nuts.
• 0:44
SPEAKER_01: Um, but you and I have been trying to get this podcast going for a while.
• 0:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 0:48
SPEAKER_01: I think just busy lives.
• 0:50
SPEAKER_01: Busy lives, um, which is something that we'll talk about today because I really admire what you do.
• 0:55
  SPEAKER_01: It's it's crazy.
• 0:56
SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I mean, it's it's about time.
• 0:59
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Jay Skidmore, thanks for coming on.
• 1:02
  SPEAKER_00: Thanks.
• 1:03
  SPEAKER_00: Of course.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_00: Second podcast, so I'm basically a pro.
• 1:06
  SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
• 1:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you only need the one, it's the warm-up.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_01: And then now, hey, you're good.
• 1:10
  SPEAKER_01: You can do anything.
• 1:11
SPEAKER_01: If I stumble or mumble, please after 204 episodes, I still do that.
• 1:18
  SPEAKER_01: So it's all good.
• 1:19
SPEAKER_01: It's it happens to the best of us.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I mean, the main reason I wanted to have you on, obviously, I like you as a person.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_01: Um, you're cool, so that's number one.
• 1:29
SPEAKER_01: But second, like I really you're one of my favorite people to follow when it comes to running.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_01: Um, and the things that you do are just amazing.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_01: Like, tell everyone about your most recent 5k.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_01: I think everyone needs to hear about that.
• 1:42
  SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
• 1:43
SPEAKER_00: You have to appreciate the nice words, thanks.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_00: Um I did uh 5K on Friday, Pioneer Day, the desert at 5K.
• 1:50
SPEAKER_00: The goal was to go under 18 minutes.
• 1:53
SPEAKER_00: Um, my other PR, my previous PR was uh 1817.
• 1:58
SPEAKER_01: Man, and what's the pace for 1817?
• 2:01
SPEAKER_00: Um That's like six minutes.
• 2:03
SPEAKER_00: Like just under six minutes.
• 2:05
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
• 2:05
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 2:06
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I thought, you know, this would be a good race.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty good course in Salt Lake, a lot of people, a lot of fast people.
• 2:13
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_00: Cause um the previous two 5Ks I'd done were just like local turkey trots.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, I'm basically running alone.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_00: And this one there was you know over a thousand people just in the 5K, so you had people around you the whole time.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I um went out pretty hot.
• 2:34
SPEAKER_00: Um first mile was like under 630.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: So my mile pace goal was 645, yeah.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_00: Um, just to get right under 18.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: First mile was like 628 or something like that.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: Second mile is oh sorry, 528.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was gonna say that doesn't add up.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_01: I was like, then you must have sprinted at the end like crazy.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: Second mile was 524, which is funny because that was my last year's like mile PR.
• 2:58
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 2:58
SPEAKER_00: I looked down and I'm like, holy crap, I'm going way too fast.
• 3:02
  SPEAKER_01: Cooking.
• 3:03
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 3:03
SPEAKER_00: And then third mile, you turn the corner and you kind of go uphill or straight into the sun.
• 3:07
SPEAKER_00: But so my pace dropped down to like six, but still um ended at a 1735.
• 3:16
SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it was good.
• 3:20
  SPEAKER_01: That's so fast.
• 3:20
  SPEAKER_01: This is unbelievable.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_01: I think like um, I mean, shout out to the pioneers for letting you do that on Pioneer Day, but um, it's just nuts like thinking about how fast that is for three it's 3.12 miles, right?
• 3:35
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 3:35
  SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't know.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I went on a run today and there was downhill, so I was like, okay, I'll go a little bit faster today.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think my fastest mile was like 7.28 today.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_01: Um and I was like, oh okay, and like I I feel good about that.
• 3:50
  SPEAKER_01: And you're over here running 538s, like that's insane, or 525s.
• 3:55
SPEAKER_00: I think the 5k is the hardest race to run.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like the mile is so short, like you're done in you know, five to eight minutes.
• 4:03
SPEAKER_00: You can push it, yeah.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_00: Half marathon, it's you know, hour and a half, two hours, but you're not redlining that hard.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_00: But a 5k, it's like your heart, you're starting, your heart rate is already in like the 180.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you gotta go out hot.
• 4:15
SPEAKER_01: You have to because it's like uh, you know, only three miles.
• 4:17
  SPEAKER_01: How bad is it?
• 4:18
SPEAKER_01: And then you're mile one and a half, and you're like, oof, yeah, this is rough.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, I mean it's it's been fun watching you because you always post your times on social media, you always post like running tip videos, which I think are awesome.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_01: Anyone who wants to learn more, I think should follow you, which by the way, plug your plug your username.
• 4:36
  SPEAKER_01: It's Jace Runs More.
• 4:39
SPEAKER_00: It's a play on my last name.
• 4:40
SPEAKER_00: My last name is Skidmore.
• 4:41
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there we go.
• 4:43
SPEAKER_00: I don't actually run more, it's just I think you do run more.
• 4:46
SPEAKER_00: Play on my words, on my last name.
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_01: Hey, I like it.
• 4:49
SPEAKER_01: But seriously, yeah, Jace runs more.
• 4:50
  SPEAKER_01: Everyone should follow it.
• 4:52
SPEAKER_01: Um, if you want to get better at running, like there's some good things on there.
• 4:55
SPEAKER_01: But I would love to know, um, because obviously your streak says you've been running for a while, which we'll talk about.
• 5:02
SPEAKER_01: But would love to know how you got started and where you found running.
• 5:06
  SPEAKER_01: Going way back, yeah.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_00: Um, all right, so in high school I ran track, but I sprinted and long jumped, so nothing over 400 meters, yeah, no cross country, no miles, nothing like that.
• 5:19
SPEAKER_00: And so um I grew up basically hating long distance running, and my parents, when we live, we lived in Indiana when I was in middle school, okay, and they you know signed up for a 5K, and it was actually in Indianapolis, and you finished the 5K on like the indie 500 track, like crossing.
• 5:38
  SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
• 5:40
  SPEAKER_01: That's really cool, actually.
• 5:41
SPEAKER_00: So they got the bug from that, and they've just been like running ever since.
• 5:45
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 5:46
SPEAKER_00: And so when I was in high school and recently graduated, they would they were doing a bunch of half marathons, and they were trying to get me to do them, and they would convince me by saying, Oh, we'll pay for it, you'll just come to run.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: And you know, I wouldn't train at all.
• 6:03
SPEAKER_00: And I the first one I did was um the Halloween half, I think down Provo Canyon.
• 6:09
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, yeah.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've heard good things about it.
• 6:11
SPEAKER_00: When I was so hot, and then my IT band like locked up.
• 6:15
SPEAKER_00: And if you've ever had your IT band locked up, you like can't run.
• 6:17
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's painful.
• 6:19
SPEAKER_01: It's like it's so weird, it's the weirdest thing.
• 6:21
SPEAKER_00: Like someone is like stabbing you on the side.
• 6:23
  SPEAKER_00: So weird.
• 6:24
SPEAKER_00: And I remember being like so embarrassed, like, you know, I had passed all the because it's really downhill, and I had passed so many people at the start, and then you know, all these people are passing me.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_00: And if you've ever done a race, like it's very humbling.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_00: Oh, see like who is running these paces.
• 6:42
SPEAKER_00: You have little kids, yeah, you know, older people, people with di all different kinds of body shapes, and I'm just like, they are running so fast right now.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_00: It's crazy, like it's a cool skill to have because like I truly think anybody can be a runner, yeah.
• 6:57
SPEAKER_00: Um, anyways, so that was super humbling, and I like slowly started training.
• 7:02
SPEAKER_00: And I remember one race, I was like, Oh, I did seven miles like as my long run before the race, and now I'm like so prepared and ready.
• 7:12
  SPEAKER_01: I'm ready, I got this.
• 7:14
SPEAKER_00: Whereas like now, you know, I if I'm really training for a half, I'm like my long runs are like 16 miles with like pacework in um and so that like I so I slowly started getting the bug and I served a mission, didn't run at all there.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I didn't start running again basically till after I got married.
• 7:34
SPEAKER_00: And uh my wife, we're driving home from a family party.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_00: I think it was our first year married, and we decided to do um to sign up for a marathon, St.
• 7:44
  SPEAKER_00: George.
• 7:45
SPEAKER_00: We got just a random training plan online.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_00: I think it was runner's world, so it was probably half the somewhat good, and you know, it's like those long runs, it was like no pace in mind.
• 7:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like all these miles done, done, and um I mean that marathon was humbling too.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_00: Like my goal was under four hours.
• 8:08
  SPEAKER_00: I think I came in at like 4.05.
• 8:11
SPEAKER_00: And then the next year or two years after that, I did we did the St.
• 8:15
SPEAKER_00: George marathon again and still came in.
• 8:18
SPEAKER_00: It was like four hours and 17 seconds or something like that.
• 8:21
  SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
• 8:22
SPEAKER_00: I was like, my wife beat me that race, and I was just like, oh my gosh, like I'm not supposed to be a runner, like this is not for me.
• 8:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, and then it just kind of I like we kept at it and kept at it, and we have a really good circle with our families.
• 8:40
SPEAKER_00: Like, my parents are both still running, my wife's parents both run, siblings, friends.
• 8:45
SPEAKER_00: So, like when we do a race, well, even at this 5k, we had like I don't know, eight people there from our families.
• 8:51
  SPEAKER_00: That's pretty cool.
• 8:52
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's awesome.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, if we go down to like St.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_00: George, we get a big Airbnb together.
• 8:58
  SPEAKER_00: That's so fun.
• 8:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, do a big dinner the night before.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_00: So being in that circle, it was just like really easy to keep running, yeah.
• 9:06
SPEAKER_00: And like, and then I did Ogden, and that was and I was doing halves kind of all throughout this, but yeah, I did the Ogden Marathon and ran like a 341, and that's like when um things like the the switch just like flipped for me.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_00: And I was actually thinking about this this last couple days on like why did I because you know two years after that I went under three hours, so I went from 341 to a 258, which is like that's nuts, huge jump in the marathon.
• 9:37
  SPEAKER_01: Huge jump.
• 9:38
SPEAKER_00: Um, and I was thinking, like, you know, why I you know there were two years of consistent running, but um the biggest thing I think was like my I got mentally stronger.
• 9:51
SPEAKER_00: And if you have a base built up for running, um your the mental game is huge in it in workouts, not being able to quit, like in a workout when your heart rate is up in like the 180s, 190s, like if it's your first time running at that, your body is like, oh heck no, like we're gonna shutting down happening.
• 10:11
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is dangerous.
• 10:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it feels like you're dying at times.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like, okay, uh this could be it.
• 10:17
SPEAKER_01: All right, I'm going out running.
• 10:18
SPEAKER_00: That's and it is such a skill to mentally like push through that and keep going.
• 10:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, and then that's I think really where I saw like all the speed work come was having these really hard workouts, learning how to push through your body telling you no.
• 10:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and yeah, um, so yeah, then two years later I ran a 258, and I was it was like to this day the best, it's best race I've ever ran.
• 10:44
SPEAKER_00: Like finished strong, everything like the stars just like aligned the weather, my nutrition.
• 10:50
  SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
• 10:51
SPEAKER_00: I ran like most of it with my buddy Braden, Braden Hall, different Braden.
• 10:54
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, just incredible.
• 10:59
  SPEAKER_01: That's insane.
• 11:00
SPEAKER_00: Uh and then this last year at Ogden, I did a 25341.
• 11:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so trying to go on a 250.
• 11:06
SPEAKER_00: Um, just wasn't the day.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_00: And was a little disappointed, but you know, it's all right.
• 11:12
  SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's still a Boston qualifier.
• 11:14
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_01: Like, and that's um, I think it's it's I actually didn't know that about you, where you went, you know, from a four, what was the first time 417?
• 11:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, four hours or yeah, 405, 155.
• 11:26
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, 405.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_01: Um, and then you made it to under three hours at 258 in like a pretty short amount of time.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_01: Um that's one thing I think you you just called it out the mental game of running.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_01: Because I think that's honestly for me, that's the hardest part.
• 11:44
SPEAKER_01: Um, the physical piece, you know, I'm blessed with long legs, so I feel like I I have um yeah, Brett is tall, everyone.
• 11:52
SPEAKER_00: I mean the first time I saw him, I was like, holy crap, I did not.
• 11:55
  SPEAKER_01: The legs help, man.
• 11:56
  SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's the tall legs.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_01: Um, but when I first started like actually getting into running, because my first marathon, I didn't know what I was doing.
• 12:03
SPEAKER_01: Um, I ran the Utah Valley Marathon.
• 12:07
SPEAKER_00: Oh, and that one starts so early.
• 12:08
SPEAKER_00: So you gotta get you gotta get on the bus at like 3 or 3:30.
• 12:12
  SPEAKER_01: I I had no idea.
• 12:13
SPEAKER_01: Like, I was like, okay, I mean it was my first one, and then I show up there and everyone's sitting around campfires with like emergency blankets wrapped around them.
• 12:20
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Oh, did you not have like a drop bag with clothes and stuff?
• 12:22
  SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't have anything.
• 12:23
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I did have a hoodie.
• 12:26
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I had a hoodie, but um like I didn't have any sweats or anything, and it was so cold, and I was like by a truck, I was on a wheel of like sitting down next to a wheel of a truck underneath an emergency blanket, counting.
• 12:40
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's like okay, I have an hour and a half before this thing starts.
• 12:42
  SPEAKER_01: This is great.
• 12:43
SPEAKER_00: You're shivering and your glycogen storage is fine.
• 12:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like oh, this is so good.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_01: And everyone's like running up and down the um just I I don't know, the waiting area that you're at.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I I don't want to run because I'm like I've rested so much for this and all this stuff.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_01: But um anyway, so I didn't know anything I was doing there, bonked so hard at mile 18.
• 13:03
SPEAKER_01: Um, but hey, I got through it, and that was like the same thing that happened to me is like as soon as I finished that, I was like, okay, like I just proved myself that I could do something that's pretty hard, very hard.
• 13:16
SPEAKER_01: Um, and like I wonder where I can take it.
• 13:19
SPEAKER_01: And so that's how like I got into running, and then it was like you said, understanding that a lot of the things are just the it's the mental game, it's pushing through when your body tells you not to.
• 13:31
SPEAKER_01: Um what do you do when that comes up?
• 13:33
SPEAKER_01: Like when you were first getting through um and you're like, okay, when that thing clicked in your head, um, and you're like, okay, I just gotta learn how to endure.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_01: Um, what did you start telling yourself and what did you start doing that helped you through that?
• 13:47
SPEAKER_00: Um, so my brain either goes one of two directions.
• 13:51
  SPEAKER_01: I'm excited for this.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_00: It's either really nice and very supportive, like you've done this before, you're fast, like really positive.
• 13:59
SPEAKER_00: You're a fast runner, like you hit a good workout last week, you did a good race last week, and it's really positive and it's like uplifting.
• 14:07
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 14:08
SPEAKER_00: Or my brain goes complete opposite, like David Goggins, like yeah, really crude, really mean to myself.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, I get that one.
• 14:19
  SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_00: And you know, so you know, sometimes I need to be nice to myself, and sometimes I need to be mean to myself.
• 14:25
SPEAKER_00: And and you know, if there's workouts where regardless of how I am, and I if I don't have my paces, like I know like I gave it my all, and like I can be happy at the end of the workout, but yeah, that's where my mind goes typically.
• 14:41
  SPEAKER_01: For sure.
• 14:42
SPEAKER_01: Like I I get both of those stories so well because like I um I was pretty mean to myself every time I would run, and like kind of the same thing.
• 14:51
SPEAKER_01: It's like stuff like in sorry for this, but I'd be like, yo, come on, bitch, like go, like run.
• 14:57
SPEAKER_01: Um, and like then the other times that I I don't know, I was just so mean to myself.
• 15:02
SPEAKER_01: And then I married my wife, and um, she would ask me like the same question that I asked you, like, how do you get through your runs?
• 15:08
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, I just kind of beat myself up, and she's like, Don't do that.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_01: Like, you gotta be your own biggest cheerleader.
• 15:12
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Yeah, well, I don't know how to like motivate myself outside of that.
• 15:15
SPEAKER_01: Um, and so I started working on that.
• 15:18
SPEAKER_01: Um, and it is kind of interesting, like the contrast between the two.
• 15:21
SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, you have one time where you're supportive to yourself, and like you said, like, oh, you have the evidence that you can do this.
• 15:27
SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there's the other side that's like, you know, what is uh Dr.
• 15:32
SPEAKER_01: Heckle and what is it?
• 15:34
  SPEAKER_00: Uh Jacqueline Hyde.
• 15:35
SPEAKER_01: Jacqueline Hyde, yeah, that one.
• 15:36
  SPEAKER_01: The two-faced.
• 15:37
SPEAKER_01: Um, or you could just say Harvey Two-Face.
• 15:40
SPEAKER_01: Um watched that movie yesterday.
• 15:42
  SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
• 15:42
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's great.
• 15:43
SPEAKER_01: But um, anyway, so yeah, I like it's super interesting that that's a common thing.
• 15:48
SPEAKER_01: Because like I've I've talked to my wife, she has the same thoughts.
• 15:51
  SPEAKER_01: My brother, who's a big runner.
• 15:53
SPEAKER_01: Um, we both ran the uh what was it?
• 15:56
SPEAKER_01: Canyon Lands Ultra Marathon last October.
• 15:59
SPEAKER_01: Um and yeah, it's so funny because like I also have times during the race where I'm very nice to myself, and then other times where I'm like, yeah, it comes out, I'm I'm mean.
• 16:11
SPEAKER_01: Um, but at the end of the day, like that's how I get through.
• 16:14
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 16:15
SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like sometimes you need one, sometimes you need the other.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_01: You need the need the dark side sometimes.
• 16:22
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_01: But uh I don't know, it's it's kind of funny to to hear.
• 16:26
SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, I I'd love to hear actually about this most recent marathon that you did because I saw your time and I was like, he's Boston qualified.
• 16:34
SPEAKER_01: Um and then I would also love to know like have you applied for Boston?
• 16:38
SPEAKER_01: Like, what's the process for that?
• 16:40
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so yeah, I if you didn't know the Boston qualifying for men's age 34 and under, you have to be run a 255 marathon.
• 16:50
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they dropped it.
• 16:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they dropped five minutes.
• 16:52
SPEAKER_00: It feels like the goalpost just like keeps on moving.
• 16:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, but running is booming so much that like you have to now have like five to seven minutes underneath that to like have a chance of getting in.
• 17:04
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that makes sense.
• 17:05
SPEAKER_00: So the goal was like 250 um to get myself you know a five-minute buffer.
• 17:10
SPEAKER_00: That was my A goal.
• 17:12
SPEAKER_00: When I go into race, I usually have like three goals.
• 17:15
SPEAKER_00: A is like you know what I'm training for, but also it's like kind of a reach and the stars need to align.
• 17:22
SPEAKER_00: B is like, I think I can hit that even if you know something goes wrong or something I can't control isn't ideal.
• 17:31
  SPEAKER_00: And that was 255.
• 17:32
SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to get you know the Boston qualifying little stamp on my time card.
• 17:37
SPEAKER_00: And then C is just you know, don't get injured and finish the race.
• 17:40
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 17:42
SPEAKER_00: And so I set the goal 250.
• 17:46
SPEAKER_00: Well, I was actually kind of going back and forth because our life was crazy.
• 17:51
SPEAKER_00: This block started in January, I did a 16-week block.
• 17:54
SPEAKER_00: My wife was pregnant due in the middle of February, and then we also sold and bought a house, like and moved like two weeks before our daughter was born.
• 18:04
SPEAKER_00: So, like it was like so chaotic.
• 18:08
SPEAKER_00: And I also work nights, and we have a two-year-old that's like in daycare, so I got sick like three times in like a six-week span.
• 18:17
SPEAKER_00: So the first part, first half of the block was just like horrible, you know.
• 18:21
SPEAKER_00: The mileage was you know, 50 miles one week, 25 miles the next week, just like all over the place, very little sleep, no time to like strength train.
• 18:31
SPEAKER_00: I did funny, I did zero strength training the whole 16 weeks.
• 18:35
  SPEAKER_00: That's because I didn't have time.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_00: I was like, all my time is going to running, and I'll be fine.
• 18:41
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so the block wasn't great, but the second half of the block ended really well.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_00: I did my biggest workout was like a 21-mile long run with 10 miles at pace, just in the middle, like straight.
• 18:54
SPEAKER_00: So you do a 10-mile warm-up, 10 miles at pace, and then one mile cooldown.
• 18:58
SPEAKER_00: And I did it and it felt good, and that was like a huge confidence booster.
• 19:03
SPEAKER_00: And so everything was good for race day.
• 19:07
SPEAKER_00: I up to my nutrition.
• 19:08
SPEAKER_00: I was doing like 90 grams of carbs an hour.
• 19:11
SPEAKER_00: Um, race comes along and the weather was good, and by like mile seven, I I could just tell like it wasn't for some reason.
• 19:19
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes your body just isn't ready to go.
• 19:21
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_00: At mile seven, I was like, okay, like these bases should be feeling a little easier here.
• 19:27
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 19:28
SPEAKER_00: 630s is what I was um trying to hit.
• 19:33
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I'm like, I'm you know, I'm just gonna hold on to this as long as I can, and we'll just see what happens.
• 19:40
SPEAKER_00: And if you've done Ogden, you go down around Pine View and then down Ogden Canyon, which is pretty steep.
• 19:48
SPEAKER_00: And we I like we get to the canyon, and I can't even hit the six.
• 19:52
SPEAKER_00: I'm like barely hitting 630s, like downhill, and I'm like what's happening.
• 19:57
SPEAKER_00: I'm so screwed when it just flattens out.
• 20:00
SPEAKER_00: And at like mile 19, I could feel my quads like starting to like twitch, you know.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, downhill does it to you where they're you know on the verge of cramping, yeah.
• 20:09
SPEAKER_00: And then the last two miles, it was like oh like any wrong step could have cramped up, you know.
• 20:16
  SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
• 20:16
SPEAKER_00: Oh um, and so it was just like super brutal.
• 20:21
SPEAKER_00: And my heart rate was actually lower than the year the previous year.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_00: Nutrition was up, and so I attribute it all to like no strength training, yeah.
• 20:30
SPEAKER_00: And because yeah, you do these downhill races and it's brutal on your legs.
• 20:34
  SPEAKER_01: It seriously is.
• 20:35
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like St.
• 20:36
SPEAKER_01: George is another one, like that's pretty downhill, and that's that I didn't I've only done the half in that one, and but my quads were shot after that race.
• 20:43
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, gets you for sure, and so yeah, I came across 253 41, didn't hit my egg go, and I was uh like pretty disappointed, even though it was like a five-minute PR.
• 20:55
SPEAKER_00: Um, and my dad qualified, and my mother-in-law qualified by a lot, and so they're gonna go, and I was like, Oh, it would have been perfect for us to go with them, and like um, so I was pretty disappointed at the beginning, and you know, it's been a couple months, and looking back at how my training block went and how busy life was, and like a PR is a PR.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, you know, I gave them my everything, and so I am really happy with it, but you know, running there's no finish line.
• 21:27
  SPEAKER_01: It's like yeah, that's true.
• 21:28
SPEAKER_00: There's always new goals, always new races, time to get faster.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_00: So I still applied to get into Boston.
• 21:36
SPEAKER_00: They do like a pre-approval this month, um, and then like the actual application is in September.
• 21:43
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_00: But it's like such a slim chance I'll get in.
• 21:46
SPEAKER_00: But you know, hey, fingers crossed, yeah.
• 21:48
  SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
• 21:48
  SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
• 21:48
  SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
• 21:49
SPEAKER_00: But there's always next year.
• 21:51
  SPEAKER_00: True.
• 21:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, and like you we were just talking about, like you have the evidence now, so it's like, hey, I can apply that to the next race and hopefully Hopefully get the goal then.
• 22:01
SPEAKER_01: Um, but I love what you said.
• 22:03
SPEAKER_01: Like there really is no finish line in running.
• 22:05
  SPEAKER_01: Like there really isn't.
• 22:06
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's like like the last couple races, even though I've like PR'd all of them, it's like I haven't felt like this great joy afterwards.
• 22:17
SPEAKER_00: Because it's always like, okay, well, I need to do this better.
• 22:20
SPEAKER_00: I need to, you know, taste better.
• 22:22
SPEAKER_01: All right, on to the next one.
• 22:23
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 22:24
SPEAKER_00: Whereas like instead of like super high and super lows, it's kind of just like Yeah.
• 22:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just kind of steady.
• 22:31
  SPEAKER_01: It's good.
• 22:32
  SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
• 22:33
  SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I think it is good.
• 22:34
SPEAKER_01: And I think for longevity ways or purposes, that's probably better, honestly.
• 22:39
SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't know, I see people like Cameron Haynes, I love the content that he posts, especially when he's talking about ultra marathons.
• 22:48
SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Yeah, I've been running for 45 years.
• 22:51
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, okay, well, so there really is no finish line.
• 22:54
SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just gonna keep on doing this until either my body gives out or I just throw in the towel.
• 22:58
SPEAKER_01: But I feel like it'll be the the first.
• 23:00
SPEAKER_01: Like, body gives out, all right, then I'll call it.
• 23:03
  SPEAKER_01: But um, I don't know.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_01: I think I always say that running's a great metaphor for life, and um, I feel like sometimes it gets cheesy when I say that because like it it really for me it's like it does apply to so many different things.
• 23:18
SPEAKER_01: Um, but I'd love to hear like from you what lessons running has taught you that have stayed and have applied and gone into like your everyday life.
• 23:27
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 23:27
SPEAKER_00: Well, uh, first of all, I agree running is a great metaphor for life.
• 23:31
SPEAKER_00: I think everyone can and should be a runner unless like you have chronically bad knees or something.
• 23:38
SPEAKER_00: I think um, but yeah, lessons I've learned.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_00: Um the one most recent the last like year and a half, two years, you know, Brayden Galbreth, we have some friends, we started the run streak beginning.
• 23:50
SPEAKER_00: Yes, I want you to talk about this.
• 23:52
  SPEAKER_00: We're now on day, I don't even know.
• 23:55
  SPEAKER_01: Last I checked, it was 570.
• 23:57
SPEAKER_00: Five, yeah, something like that.
• 23:58
  SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
• 23:59
SPEAKER_00: It's to the point where I don't even check anymore.
• 24:01
SPEAKER_00: Like I have a countdown app that like I'll check occasionally to like look, but the first 100 days, it was like every day I'm looking and like putting it on my Stravas, it's getting closer to 100 days because we originally only wanted to do 100 days, and I was not a fan of streaks.
• 24:21
SPEAKER_00: I thought they were so dumb before this, and I think our friend Jade actually brought it up in our group chat, like our running group chat.
• 24:28
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, no, maybe we can do like a weekly mileage, like goal streak thing or whatever, and they finally convinced me to, and yeah, well now we're 570.
• 24:38
  SPEAKER_00: That's crazy in, and it's a mile a day at least.
• 24:42
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so yeah, I've done a lot of miles like in my scrubs, in my you know, wearing my garments, like middle of the night, or like sick on the treadmill, like um, but it's gotten to the point where it's just like a habit, like it's a non-negotiable.
• 25:02
SPEAKER_00: I don't have to like argue with myself, with me or my wife.
• 25:06
SPEAKER_00: Like, we just know like I have to run every day, at least a mile.
• 25:10
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, 10 minutes max, like everybody has 10 minutes in their day.
• 25:14
  SPEAKER_00: Um, it's true.
• 25:16
SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think everybody should necessarily do a run streak.
• 25:20
SPEAKER_00: I think parts of it are unhealthy, but right.
• 25:23
SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I think it's has just become such a habit, you know, over and over and over, 500 plus days, and it it's just habit now.
• 25:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I don't know, I was honestly thinking, like, you know, when is this ever gonna end?
• 25:40
SPEAKER_00: You know, like stop me from running.
• 25:45
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 25:45
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I thought realistically, like, you know, the day I get a vasectomy, I don't think I can run for like a certain time after that.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_00: So like that might be that might be it, but who knows?
• 25:57
  SPEAKER_00: Maybe I won't be getting a vasectomy.
• 26:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just keep it going.
• 26:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like, yeah, yeah, I'm I'm 10 years in, hon, I'm not gonna stop now.
• 26:04
  SPEAKER_01: Like, come on, yeah.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_00: Um but no, like honestly, there's no end in sight.
• 26:10
SPEAKER_00: Luckily, I haven't had any like huge injuries or like hospital stays or anything like that.
• 26:15
SPEAKER_00: And so that is good.
• 26:17
SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's super fun for me to like log in into Strava and see, like you said, it's 2.07 in the morning and you just you just ran.
• 26:27
SPEAKER_01: I was like, I think I commented on one of those and I was like, hey, this is a little too late for run.
• 26:31
SPEAKER_01: Um, and then like seeing Braden, like both you guys are so consistent, and I love that because I'm a big believer in in consistency over motivation.
• 26:42
SPEAKER_01: And with running specifically, like I feel like you kind of have to embrace that mentality of hey, I'm just going to show up when I don't want to.
• 26:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, I always follow the 10-minute rule where it's like, okay, if I start running and after 10 minutes, like I'm really not feeling it, then I'll stop.
• 27:00
SPEAKER_01: Um, but I always try and stay consistent because to me, it's important to um, you know, this is the metaphor for life thing, but if you can show up even when you don't want to, then that is a very important thing that can like apply to other areas in your life.
• 27:14
SPEAKER_01: And um yeah, I mean, I think it's just train your body to do that.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_01: And like you said, it becomes a habit.
• 27:20
SPEAKER_01: Um, the longer you do it, the more natural it feels.
• 27:23
SPEAKER_01: Um, I can't remember what the quote is, but it's something that says like what feels impossible today becomes a belief tomorrow.
• 27:31
SPEAKER_01: Um, and then like eventually becomes a habit.
• 27:34
SPEAKER_01: I can't remember what it is, but I'll put it up right here.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: Um, anyways, yeah, right here.
• 27:38
SPEAKER_01: Um, but it's like basically saying what was impossible to you at one point is now possible because like you do it so much and now it's part of who you are.
• 27:47
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 27:48
SPEAKER_00: I mean, look at Braden's times over the last year and a half.
• 27:52
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's crazy.
• 27:53
  SPEAKER_00: Like he's run, he ran a sub-125 half.
• 27:56
  SPEAKER_01: That's nuts.
• 27:57
SPEAKER_00: And like I actually listen re-listened to that podcast, and he like had only run that um trail half marathon that took him like three hours or something like that.
• 28:08
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's a lot of fun.
• 28:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's just been so consistent, and you know, with biking and swimming, and it's all aerobic, so it helps.
• 28:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, yeah, but yeah, he has come so far.
• 28:19
SPEAKER_00: It's so fun to see.
• 28:20
SPEAKER_00: I love when people reach out to me and ask me questions and like talking about running.
• 28:26
  SPEAKER_00: Um, yes, today's Monday.
• 28:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yesterday we actually had our temple recommend interview, like yeah, with our sick president, and he's a runner.
• 28:33
SPEAKER_00: And I was in there with him for like 30 minutes because we're just talking about running.
• 28:38
  SPEAKER_01: I know that's the thing.
• 28:38
SPEAKER_01: You can talk about it forever.
• 28:40
SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, it really, I don't know.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_00: Everyone, like you know, we got into shoes, he didn't know they were raid carbon plate race day shoes.
• 28:46
SPEAKER_00: He's had no idea those existed.
• 28:48
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, dude, it's like get a little spring.
• 28:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, go to a store and try them on.
• 28:54
  SPEAKER_01: Like it's wild.
• 28:55
SPEAKER_01: First time I tried those on, I was like, this feels like cheating, but I'll take it.
• 28:58
  SPEAKER_01: Like this is nice.
• 29:00
SPEAKER_00: Yes, but no, I mean you can talk about running with like any other runner, you could talk forever with them.
• 29:07
  SPEAKER_00: It's so much fun.
• 29:07
SPEAKER_01: I know it's cool, it's like a shared experience because everyone like what you're saying, how you know some days you just have to be mean to yourself, other days you're nice to yourself, or like you know, some days it's really hard, you don't want to do it, but you still show up.
• 29:19
SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like any runner can relate to those kinds of things.
• 29:23
SPEAKER_01: Like everyone understands the pain and the discomfort that goes into running, but then also the reward that comes from like showing yourself that you can do these hard things that you set your mind to.
• 29:35
  SPEAKER_01: Um, that's why I love it.
• 29:36
SPEAKER_01: Like it's you know, some people like have asked me, like, are you addicted to running?
• 29:42
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but like it is something that I genuinely believe makes me a better person, as weird as that sounds.
• 29:48
  SPEAKER_02: Yes.
• 29:49
  SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know.
• 29:50
SPEAKER_01: It's it's super interesting to me um how you can relate to everyone just like through these experiences.
• 29:56
SPEAKER_01: But um, I would love to hear like when you were doing your first training or that training block this year for Ogden as someone who's gonna be a new dad, like the whole training routine I know is gonna get disrupted, and I know like I I'm expecting it, so I'm I'm going into it knowing that that's gonna happen.
• 30:18
SPEAKER_01: But um what did you do during those times?
• 30:22
SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, when you bring the baby home, um you know, day one, like what did your schedule look like and how did you fit running into those times?
• 30:30
SPEAKER_01: It's more of like a question for me, honestly.
• 30:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, so I mean, first communication with your wife is huge because she likes to work out too, and getting a schedule set up or knowing when you guys are gonna take that personal time to work out every day is huge, so then they don't feel abandoned when all of a sudden you're like, hey honey, I'm gonna go for this 10-mile run real quick.
• 30:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and she's stuck at home, you know, with screening baby, like um and oh was it yeah.
• 31:00
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, funny side story.
• 31:02
SPEAKER_00: With this last pregnancy, labor, we did all natural, and my wife went into labor the night before, and we're doing it natural, and so we're basically waiting up until like she can't handle it anymore, and then we go to the hospital.
• 31:17
SPEAKER_00: And we wake up at like she wakes me up at like three in the morning, she's like, Hey, I think we gotta get to the hospital.
• 31:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, the baby was a little bit early, but we had our bags packed and stuff, yeah.
• 31:28
SPEAKER_00: Most of it, and I was like, in my head, I'm like, okay, with our first kid, it was a 30-hour labor, and I was at her bedside like that whole 30 hours.
• 31:38
SPEAKER_00: Like, I like I'm not gonna be running a mile in the hospital.
• 31:43
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, honey, can I just hurry and go sprint a mile real quick?
• 31:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll be right back.
• 31:47
SPEAKER_00: And she was and she's amazing.
• 31:48
SPEAKER_00: She's like, Yeah, go for it.
• 31:49
SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna finish getting the bags ready, call my mom to come watch our son.
• 31:54
SPEAKER_00: And so I like sprinted like a six-minute mile at like three in the morning.
• 31:58
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm gonna be a dad again.
• 32:00
SPEAKER_00: Worried, like, okay, I hope like you know, she doesn't give birth while I'm selfishly running this mile.
• 32:09
  SPEAKER_00: That's that's a good wife, yes, and she's a runner too, and she's incredible.
• 32:13
SPEAKER_00: And so, like, letting her her letting me do that when she's you know having contractions every five minutes, it was just like she's amazing.
• 32:22
  SPEAKER_01: That's pretty awesome.
• 32:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I would say communication is huge, and luckily, you know, Allie works out, she gets it like yeah, you guys just be on the same page, and um yeah, it'll be great as long as you talk to each other.
• 32:37
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
• 32:39
SPEAKER_01: And and we we've already like discussed that a little bit, like what that's gonna look like and things, but um yeah, I mean, I'm I'm just fully accepting it.
• 32:48
SPEAKER_01: And I mean, running is important, but also I think having a child's way more important.
• 32:53
SPEAKER_01: So I also keep that in perspective too.
• 32:55
SPEAKER_01: So um, but yeah, I don't know.
• 32:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, it goes both ways where it's like running, you know, I'm taking it's time away from my family, but it's also so good for my mental health, and then I'm like happier around them, and so yeah, there's a good balance.
• 33:09
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
• 33:10
SPEAKER_00: And you know, you get really good at being sleep deprived, and luckily, you know, I've worked nights as a nurse the last like three and a half years, so I'm pretty good at like being sleep deprived.
• 33:23
  SPEAKER_01: How regular is that?
• 33:25
SPEAKER_01: Like uh I know working nights, you're there for the whole night, right?
• 33:29
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so 7 p.m.
• 33:30
  SPEAKER_00: to 7 a.m.
• 33:30
  SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
• 33:31
SPEAKER_00: And I do six twelves and one eight-hour shift in a two-week period.
• 33:37
SPEAKER_00: Okay, usually every Wednesday and Thursday, and then every other weekend.
• 33:40
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 33:41
  SPEAKER_00: That's wild.
• 33:42
SPEAKER_00: Luckily, I get to work out on shift, which is powerful.
• 33:46
  SPEAKER_00: So you see these 2 a.m.
• 33:47
SPEAKER_00: runs, that's like me at the hospital gym.
• 33:50
  SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
• 33:51
  SPEAKER_01: That's so cool.
• 33:52
  SPEAKER_00: Huge benefit.
• 33:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is nice because you know, I'm gone up to 14 hours, and so I get home, help out, and then go to bed and then wake up and go.
• 34:00
SPEAKER_00: Man, um so yeah, being sleep prepared, and then I mean you'll really learn how to like schedule your time and be efficient with your time.
• 34:10
SPEAKER_00: I'm sure because you know uh throwing a baby or multiple kids in, it's like you have such like my only hobby is running now.
• 34:19
SPEAKER_00: Like I don't have time to do anything else.
• 34:21
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 34:21
SPEAKER_00: Because you know, I work full time, my wife works full time, and then you know, we got two littles, and so you really just have to be so productive, and you know, you'll learn that.
• 34:33
  SPEAKER_01: It's great.
• 34:33
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'd I'm I'm really looking forward to it, honestly.
• 34:37
SPEAKER_01: Like, especially the runs where I have you know the baby and the stroller pushing the baby, like that's gonna be fun.
• 34:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, but any advice, like besides what you just said, like anything else that you think would be helpful to know?
• 34:49
SPEAKER_00: Um I would say being a dad is the greatest thing ever.
• 34:56
SPEAKER_00: And what I've been doing the last couple weeks, because I've realized we're both in our careers, you know, we're in a nice house, we're raising our kids, but almost no matter what is going on in your life, your brain automatically gives you some level of stress, whether you're having big stressful events or small stressful events.
• 35:19
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 35:19
SPEAKER_00: For some reason, like most people are always worried about, you know, one thing or another.
• 35:25
SPEAKER_00: And when I keep telling, you know, we keep talking, we're like, you know, this is our dream.
• 35:31
SPEAKER_00: Like, we're in our careers, we're raising our littles, like all we have to focus on is being good parents and raising amazing kids.
• 35:38
SPEAKER_00: And so I've been trying to take, you know, a few minutes every day when I'm with my kids and just like really, really, really focus on like this is the only time they're gonna be this age.
• 35:51
  SPEAKER_00: Like ever.
• 35:52
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 35:53
SPEAKER_00: You know, like playing with them or hugging them and like really trying to like embrace those few minutes and embrace like like lock it in my memory, what it's like hugging my two-year-old son, or him jumping into my arms, like and like making almost like a mental journal for later on because it's I mean he's only two, but it's sad he's like only gonna be two once for another life.
• 36:19
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, absolutely.
• 36:20
SPEAKER_00: And so just and you can say, you know, I'm I'm gonna try to like be more present, but like really even just like setting a two-minute timer, like I'm gonna take these two minutes and be so intentional and like really try and capture just this two minutes, yeah.
• 36:35
SPEAKER_00: Because you know, 12 hours trying to be intentional for 12 hours, you just can't do that.
• 36:40
SPEAKER_00: And so taking two minutes or a few minutes or whatever, however amount of time, and like yeah, trying to soak it all in.
• 36:47
  SPEAKER_01: I love that.
• 36:48
  SPEAKER_00: It goes so fast.
• 36:49
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's great advice.
• 36:50
  SPEAKER_01: And I've I've heard that too.
• 36:51
  SPEAKER_01: It goes very fast.
• 36:52
  SPEAKER_01: Like it's crazy.
• 36:53
SPEAKER_01: My um my sister-in-law was texting my wife, and my nephew, he's five now, it was his first day kindergarten.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_01: She's like, I don't know how he got to this age.
• 37:04
  SPEAKER_01: It's like, I don't know, man, that's the one thing I'm scared of being a dad.
• 37:07
SPEAKER_01: Is like I know it's gonna go by quick.
• 37:10
SPEAKER_01: But um also, you know, it's I think trying to, it's with just the same thing with running.
• 37:15
SPEAKER_01: Like, you gotta make the most of it, you gotta be intentional about what you're doing.
• 37:19
SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, no, I appreciate that.
• 37:21
SPEAKER_01: Like, I I know it's gonna change a lot of things, but also like I I have examples like you, like Braden, um, so many other people out there.
• 37:30
SPEAKER_01: Um, my friend Spencer, he's been on this podcast before.
• 37:33
SPEAKER_01: He won FitCon and he has he has one son and two twin girls.
• 37:38
SPEAKER_01: It's like if all these people who you know prioritize fitness and who are you know staying healthy for their families and things, like if they can do it, then I I think I can too.
• 37:47
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah.
• 37:48
SPEAKER_00: So there will be times where it's like yeah, middle of the night, like holy crap, what am I doing right now?
• 37:56
SPEAKER_00: Like even you know, with our second, the first night in the hospital, she was like so fussy and like didn't sleep at all.
• 38:04
SPEAKER_00: And my wife just gave birth naturally, so I'm like up all night trying to.
• 38:09
SPEAKER_00: You're like, hey, you sleep, I got this, and I'm just like, oh my gosh, like this, what am I doing?
• 38:14
  SPEAKER_00: Like, I thought I was prepared.
• 38:16
SPEAKER_00: We have one, and I'm like, you just like almost like rethink, and you're super sleep deprived, and like, but yeah, it's a lot of fun.
• 38:24
SPEAKER_01: Hey, I mean, you know, a little bit of caffeine can make it go a little easier, yes.
• 38:28
SPEAKER_01: But I don't know, yes, that is true.
• 38:30
SPEAKER_01: Um I would love to circle back to what you were saying about people reaching out to you with questions and things.
• 38:36
SPEAKER_01: Um, because that's one thing I think a lot of people who they want to get either better at running or they're just starting running.
• 38:42
SPEAKER_01: What kind of things do people ask you?
• 38:44
SPEAKER_01: And what do you tell them?
• 38:45
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, like, hey, I have a half marriage.
• 38:50
SPEAKER_00: I'm like one of my I'm not super close with him, but he he's running St.
• 38:55
SPEAKER_00: George, it'll be his first half.
• 38:57
SPEAKER_00: He's like, you know, I put in AI this plan, like what do you think?
• 39:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm not like fully against AI.
• 39:06
SPEAKER_00: I think as long as you give it like the the very strict prompts in your plan, like you know, don't raise my weekly mileage by more than 15%, yeah, don't raise my you know long run by over this amount week to week, schedule it down, like you really have to give it really good previously.
• 39:25
  SPEAKER_00: I do, yeah.
• 39:25
SPEAKER_00: I've noticed that I think it could you could do it, but it also doesn't realize you know how you feel every run, yeah, compared to like having a coach who could tell them, you know, I started feeling a little knee pain, and the coach is gonna correct it, but yeah, the eye plan is just kind of there, anyways.
• 39:43
SPEAKER_00: So I'll get questions like that, you know, what about this plan, or is this too many long runs or um injury questions?
• 39:50
SPEAKER_00: I get a lot of those just because any runner is gonna have injuries.
• 39:54
SPEAKER_01: My IT band is flaring up again.
• 39:56
  SPEAKER_01: What do I do?
• 39:56
SPEAKER_01: It's like hit the foam roller, hit the foam roller, do some uh what is it?
• 40:01
SPEAKER_01: What is the exercise called?
• 40:02
SPEAKER_01: I don't know, the mobility exercise, like the strength mobility ones.
• 40:05
  SPEAKER_01: Uh works.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_00: Uh when I had it, I found a there's a band, like a strap you can get.
• 40:11
SPEAKER_00: It just puts pressure on the IT band so it doesn't like wiggle and get inflamed when you run.
• 40:17
SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, if you have a race and you're dead center running it, buy this, it's like eight bucks.
• 40:22
  SPEAKER_00: Try it.
• 40:23
  SPEAKER_00: Hopefully it works.
• 40:24
SPEAKER_00: Dead set, then try it.
• 40:25
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 40:25
SPEAKER_00: And I've said that to like four people.
• 40:27
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 40:28
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's a kind of an injury.
• 40:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it really is.
• 40:31
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's rough.
• 40:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, and yeah, I mean, I've helped coach a few people, just like friends and family, yeah, on the side.
• 40:39
SPEAKER_00: Um, like my mother-in-law, I wrote her plan and she qualified for Boston.
• 40:43
  SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
• 40:43
SPEAKER_00: Okay, she was like the best like student in every single run, all the paces.
• 40:49
SPEAKER_00: Like, she hit, and yeah, she killed it at Ogden.
• 40:53
SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm helping my wife right now.
• 40:54
SPEAKER_00: She just ran um Top of Utah half.
• 40:59
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 40:59
  SPEAKER_00: Not top of Utah.
• 41:02
  SPEAKER_00: One half.
• 41:03
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 41:03
  SPEAKER_00: Like in American Fork.
• 41:04
  SPEAKER_00: That's pretty good.
• 41:05
SPEAKER_00: Like, yes, five months post-partum, though.
• 41:06
SPEAKER_00: Four months post-partum, she ran it under two hours, like, killed it.
• 41:11
SPEAKER_00: We're doing Cedar City, so she really wants to get like under 145 there.
• 41:15
SPEAKER_00: And like she's a really good runner, and mothers are amazing, and their bodies like you've already seen it through pre just through pregnancy.
• 41:23
  SPEAKER_01: It is she's a superhuman.
• 41:24
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's amazing.
• 41:26
SPEAKER_00: If you are married with kids and you don't respect women after they've like birthed your kids, there's like something seriously wrong with her.
• 41:34
  SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
• 41:34
  SPEAKER_01: Like, I I don't I don't know.
• 41:36
SPEAKER_01: She doesn't have she hasn't given birth yet, but still, like watching her through the process, yes, literally sacrificing her body to create life.
• 41:43
  SPEAKER_01: Like it's unbelievable.
• 41:45
  SPEAKER_00: A miracle.
• 41:45
  SPEAKER_00: Insane.
• 41:46
SPEAKER_00: And then after birth, like you'll see it too.
• 41:49
SPEAKER_00: And you know, breastfeeding or pumping or whatever you guys do, and like just it takes so long for them to recover.
• 41:56
SPEAKER_00: And it's been so hard for her because you know, pregnant, birth, breastfeeding, and then she'd run again, and then pregnant again with her second one, and like just highs and lows with her body.
• 42:08
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, uh, meanwhile, I'm just here like running and getting our guys have it easy.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_01: I keep I tell her all the time I'm I know it's like we seriously have it the easiest, and I it's terrible about it.
• 42:18
SPEAKER_00: But like our part of the pregnancy is fun.
• 42:20
SPEAKER_01: Like yeah, it's like, oh man, your bump looks so great, like, and this is so much fun.
• 42:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's oh I gotta feel the baby.
• 42:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, she's like, yeah, she's sick in bed, and like I just want to go to sleep, and I can't because I'm uncomfortable.
• 42:33
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 42:34
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, she's incredible, and like um, she's a really good runner, and I'm excited for her to like get back into it.
• 42:42
SPEAKER_00: Like today, she did her long run, 10 miles in the heat.
• 42:45
SPEAKER_00: And it was hot today.
• 42:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's so hot, dude.
• 42:49
SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I've been doing um training plans.
• 42:53
SPEAKER_00: I just hate when like I'll offer someone reach out, and then they just like don't ever even like start it.
• 42:59
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, it doesn't take me that long, but I'm like, okay, like you really weren't serious in the first place.
• 43:06
SPEAKER_01: Like I've done that a few times too.
• 43:08
SPEAKER_01: It is kind of frustrating.
• 43:09
SPEAKER_00: It's like, all right, well, and then it's kind of awkward talking about it.
• 43:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like, are you doing it?
• 43:15
  SPEAKER_01: Are you running?
• 43:15
SPEAKER_00: Like, you haven't reached out.
• 43:19
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, how were your runs this week?
• 43:21
SPEAKER_00: Even though I saw you did zero runs on your shop.
• 43:24
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's easy there.
• 43:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, could see.
• 43:27
SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't have to call you out, you know.
• 43:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but um, yeah, I just love helping people, and I think eventually I'll get like my coaching certifications and stuff, and like really help people, just as like a kind of like a side gig hobby.
• 43:42
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's it's really fun, like helping somebody train up and then them accomplish it.
• 43:49
SPEAKER_00: Like I almost I almost get more joy out of that than like me getting a new PR.
• 43:53
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, for sure.
• 43:54
SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of the same way.
• 43:55
SPEAKER_01: Like, um I don't know if you've heard the story of my brother on the podcast.
• 43:59
SPEAKER_01: Like Yeah, he was 260.
• 44:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 44:03
SPEAKER_01: And then he lost a bunch of weight.
• 44:04
  SPEAKER_01: He got into running.
• 44:05
SPEAKER_01: And then last October he ran uh an ultra marathon.
• 44:10
SPEAKER_01: But then, like, I think the the previous year, I think it was September.
• 44:13
SPEAKER_01: Um, he ran his first marathon in Las Vegas.
• 44:16
SPEAKER_01: And like when he did that, he crossed that finish line.
• 44:18
SPEAKER_01: I was like way more pumped about that than when I crossed my first marathon finish line.
• 44:23
SPEAKER_01: I was like, I saw the work that this guy put in, he was consistent, he like trained through problems, he had issues come up.
• 44:30
SPEAKER_00: Maybe like stress looking at their split.
• 44:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like where is he?
• 44:33
  SPEAKER_00: How's he doing?
• 44:34
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or get injured.
• 44:35
SPEAKER_01: I know, and that race was interesting too because I ran it with them.
• 44:38
SPEAKER_01: Um, but then like around mile 10 had a like severe asthma attack.
• 44:41
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
• 44:42
SPEAKER_01: So I was like, I I have to stop.
• 44:44
SPEAKER_01: Um, so I dropped out at that, and then after that, I was like, okay, well, this is their race.
• 44:48
SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't care about my race or anything like that.
• 44:51
  SPEAKER_01: And that was me.
• 44:52
SPEAKER_01: I was like more stressed about how they were doing and like running to different spots just to see them cross for a second.
• 44:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Vegas was nice though, because it was just like like all around the whole strip and stuff.
• 45:02
  SPEAKER_01: Really?
• 45:03
SPEAKER_01: So it was pretty flat, but just it started out in the desert, but then like once it got into Vegas, it was just like all around the different streets, like so you we can go see them pretty quickly, but um, yeah, anyways, getting back to seeing people succeed, like that is so much fun, and like it's fun seeing all you guys do it too.
• 45:20
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, man, they they haven't stopped, they're not stopping the streak.
• 45:23
  SPEAKER_01: Like, it's cool.
• 45:24
SPEAKER_00: It's it having a circle or like a friend group that has the same fitness hobbies with you, it's so much fun because you push each other and you help each other, and like we'll send you know shoe deals and you know whatever.
• 45:38
SPEAKER_00: It's just so much fun.
• 45:39
  SPEAKER_01: That's a question I have for you as a runner.
• 45:41
SPEAKER_01: What are your favorite shoes?
• 45:43
SPEAKER_00: Um, as someone with a lot of shoes, I probably have 15 pairs right now.
• 45:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you always post that stuff, and I'm like, dang, that's legit.
• 45:52
SPEAKER_01: Like, Dean, you just I don't know if you're allowed to say this, you just tried new shoes.
• 45:55
SPEAKER_00: Like you test random with a big company, they reached out to me and I went and tried like uh three, I guess four future race day shoes.
• 46:08
SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, it was awesome.
• 46:09
SPEAKER_00: The ladies they had been with that company for like 25 years.
• 46:14
SPEAKER_00: It's just like yeah, it was and the shoes were all like taped up and covered to like really keep because we were just at Sugar House Park.
• 46:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because we're in the public, so yeah, they had like KT tape all over them so you couldn't see the foam or the features and that's kind of cool, yeah.
• 46:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's like uh they do that with test driving cars.
• 46:33
SPEAKER_01: Or I don't know if you've seen that, they just like do weird paint jobs and stuff on them.
• 46:36
  SPEAKER_01: But that's cool.
• 46:37
SPEAKER_00: That's that's yeah, that was super fun, and yeah, so recently for daily trainers, I've been loving the ASIC Superblast 3s.
• 46:46
SPEAKER_00: It's I think considered like a super trainer, yeah.
• 46:48
SPEAKER_00: They're pretty expensive, but if you're a nurse or healthcare worker, military, you can get like 20% off, or if you know a nurse or somebody, okay, yeah.
• 46:58
SPEAKER_00: They'll buy them for you and ship them to your house.
• 47:00
  SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah.
• 47:01
  SPEAKER_00: Um, and then racing.
• 47:03
SPEAKER_00: Historically, I've been an Alpha Flight 3 guy.
• 47:06
SPEAKER_00: On Friday, I ran in the Adidas Audios Pro 4s.
• 47:12
SPEAKER_00: There's like every company now makes like good shoes, yeah, good foams and good technology, and it's come so far that like you can run more without the wear and tear on your legs because the foams are so good.
• 47:27
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, it's nuts.
• 47:29
  SPEAKER_00: It's awesome.
• 47:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, new balance 1080s are like my favorite just because for daily training, I love them, they're very comfortable.
• 47:36
SPEAKER_01: I can go for long distances in them.
• 47:38
SPEAKER_00: You should check out the super loss threes.
• 47:41
SPEAKER_00: I know I've heard really good things about them.
• 47:43
SPEAKER_00: They feel as soft, but they're way bouncier.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_00: Because like I was doing like 630 marathon mile repeats in those.
• 47:50
  SPEAKER_00: Dang, okay.
• 47:50
SPEAKER_00: And they feel soft and squishy and bouncy.
• 47:53
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the new balance.
• 47:54
SPEAKER_00: I will have to check them out.
• 47:55
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 47:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I like Asics.
• 47:57
SPEAKER_01: I had a pair of ASICs, um, I can't remember what they were.
• 48:00
SPEAKER_01: It was like the something 26.
• 48:03
  SPEAKER_00: Like the Nimbus.
• 48:05
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Nimbus gel Nimbus 26.
• 48:07
SPEAKER_01: Um, and I liked them a lot.
• 48:08
SPEAKER_01: They were like a little thick, but what'd you run your sub three in?
• 48:12
  SPEAKER_01: Um New Balance.
• 48:14
SPEAKER_01: Um, oh man, I don't remember what they were called, but they were carbon-plated.
• 48:18
SPEAKER_00: SC Elite V4 or the uh Pacer or the training.
• 48:24
SPEAKER_01: I think it was the what'd you was the first one?
• 48:26
  SPEAKER_00: Pacer V2 or SC Elite V.
• 48:29
SPEAKER_00: I think it was those, the V4 ones.
• 48:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those are like their top of the line.
• 48:32
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, pretty sure.
• 48:33
SPEAKER_01: Um I got them at Utah Run, I can't remember, down in uh Oram.
• 48:38
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, um, yeah, and that's like I'm just going all in with this.
• 48:41
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, they were great.
• 48:42
SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, shoes are pricey.
• 48:44
  SPEAKER_01: They really are.
• 48:45
  SPEAKER_00: Shoes are so expensive.
• 48:46
SPEAKER_01: And like when I was talking to the person who sold me those, she's like, well, these will probably last you like 100 miles.
• 48:52
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh great, that's awesome.
• 48:54
  SPEAKER_00: Like 100 miles?
• 48:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like, okay, so I'll get a quarter of the use out of them on this race.
• 48:59
  SPEAKER_01: Like, awesome.
• 49:00
  SPEAKER_00: Like, okay.
• 49:01
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's crazy.
• 49:03
SPEAKER_00: And I know shoes are pricey.
• 49:05
SPEAKER_00: I I don't know if you're on Reddit at all, but they have um like a shoe deals page.
• 49:10
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
• 49:11
SPEAKER_00: We'll just post like so yeah, most I don't ever buy shoes like for retail.
• 49:15
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 49:15
SPEAKER_00: Um like the Alpha Flies, our buddy Jade, he does like these uh tests for them, and so he gets 40% discounts all the time.
• 49:26
SPEAKER_00: So if I need new, I'll just reach out to him.
• 49:29
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's crazy.
• 49:30
SPEAKER_00: Or like you know, a new model comes out, so last year's model gets drops in prices discounted.
• 49:35
SPEAKER_00: Um, or military discount, whatever.
• 49:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so yeah, I never pay retail, and that's one reason you know I tell myself, oh, you can get these because they're on sale.
• 49:44
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 49:45
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I do that all the time.
• 49:47
SPEAKER_01: Like, that's usually when I get the new balance isn't because Amazon drops them all the time, the prices.
• 49:52
SPEAKER_01: So it's great, it's a great place to do that.
• 49:54
SPEAKER_00: Joe's New Balance, it's an online store, they have great deals too.
• 49:59
SPEAKER_00: All right, so Joe's, I'll look it up.
• 50:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um I was gonna ask you about your content that you post.
• 50:05
SPEAKER_01: Because one, it's so fun to watch, like uh, especially when you're doing the summer of speed, like you'd be like uh like training week, and then it'd like do rock music and zoom in on you.
• 50:15
  SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's what I'm talking about.
• 50:16
SPEAKER_01: Um but then you also do really helpful content where it's like, hey, this if you're trying to run for different paces, like this is what you should be targeting, or like here's how you do it.
• 50:26
SPEAKER_01: Um, what's your goal with that?
• 50:27
SPEAKER_01: Like, what's the future of Jace's Jace Run More look like?
• 50:31
  SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
• 50:32
SPEAKER_00: It's like I don't put very much effort into it.
• 50:36
SPEAKER_00: It's just kind of like if I feel like recording a video, I'm gonna record a video and put it out.
• 50:41
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 50:41
SPEAKER_00: For Ogden, for those 16 weeks, I did like a video every week.
• 50:46
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 50:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, and sometimes I'll do a little series, but you know, I think I just want it to be, I need to be more consistent.
• 50:53
SPEAKER_00: It's hard creating content, you know this tough putting out content, it is hard.
• 50:58
SPEAKER_00: Like to get the motivation to like sit down and like brainstorm and edit and add music.
• 51:05
SPEAKER_00: It's a lot like these full-time content creators, like they actually do a lot.
• 51:09
  SPEAKER_00: It's a job, it is a job.
• 51:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a it's a job, and so I just haven't had a whole lot of you know mental you know space to put a bunch of time into this.
• 51:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I think I want you know some educational stuff, some motivational stuff, some about me running, but ultimately I think I want to like help people and motivate people, teach people about running, yeah.
• 51:32
SPEAKER_00: And then you know, eventually get into coaching and that kind of be, you know, a method people find me.
• 51:38
SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, and you know, even editing videos, it takes a long like all the little tricks and tips and stuff.
• 51:46
SPEAKER_00: Like you just I remember when I was first starting, like putting in like words on a video, it was like this looks so crappy.
• 51:55
SPEAKER_00: Like, how do people do that?
• 51:57
SPEAKER_00: I know I feel old, I'm 31, and so I'm like, you know, these you know, late teens, low 20s people are just probably so good at it and fast like that.
• 52:06
  SPEAKER_00: It's nuts.
• 52:06
SPEAKER_01: Like I've watched my niece edit a video, or um, even my wife, she's so good at it, but like she'll do what takes me two hours and 15 minutes.
• 52:15
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay, now I'm just I feel stupid now.
• 52:18
SPEAKER_00: Or it's like I'll like put a bunch of time and effort into one, and it like it's like 300 views, and I'm like, I get more likes on my Strava than likes on my social media.
• 52:30
  SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
• 52:31
SPEAKER_00: Or like some stupid video that like didn't edit it all, like we'll do way better.
• 52:36
  SPEAKER_00: It makes no sense.
• 52:37
SPEAKER_01: Like people say you gotta learn the algorithm, but that's like the algorithm does what it wants, so I don't I don't get it.
• 52:43
SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, that's the one thing for me.
• 52:45
SPEAKER_01: I know I need to be better for getting after it because like the same thing what you were saying, like I want to help people, I want to educate them, but not just running, but like philosophy and other things that are important and have helped me.
• 52:56
SPEAKER_01: Um, but then when I sit down, I'm like, okay, I'm gonna create content.
• 52:59
SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, I don't have any videos of me doing it, so it's like I gotta go back and do that while I run.
• 53:04
SPEAKER_01: And it's like when I run, I get super focused in like the actual run um where it's it's weird for me and it feels unnatural to like fill myself or you know do that.
• 53:14
SPEAKER_00: So it's like I don't know, I gotta and then I like see somebody turn the corner, I'm like, oh yeah, I'm like, oh man, I know I feel so weird.
• 53:21
SPEAKER_01: There was a time where um I would get like B-roll of me lifting at the gym so I could like put it in clips and stuff.
• 53:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and um I had uh like it was like a magnetic phone holder, so it was very inconspicuous, which is nice.
• 53:34
SPEAKER_01: But even then, like I felt so weird doing it.
• 53:37
SPEAKER_01: But then there's these people out there who have tripods in here that they don't care, they're like whatever.
• 53:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think there is that mental barrier where you just have to like stop caring if they judge me, like oh well, honestly, but I haven't crossed that barrier.
• 53:51
SPEAKER_01: It's like same thing that we're talking about with Ronnie, it's the metaphor for life.
• 53:55
SPEAKER_01: It's like once you figure out how to do it and just cross that barrier, hey, you'll be good.
• 53:59
  SPEAKER_01: But I know it's so funny.
• 54:01
SPEAKER_01: It's like I talk about getting after it and say, Oh, that's the hardest part for me is the social media content, honestly.
• 54:06
SPEAKER_00: Well, and it's such a good avenue, too.
• 54:08
  SPEAKER_00: It's like free, yeah.
• 54:10
SPEAKER_00: And any video could just like pop up and go viral, and so it's like, yeah, and I think also like if you get an idea in your head, you just have to like film it and post it.
• 54:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because like sometimes I'll be like, Oh yeah, I'll do that later, and then it just I never get to it.
• 54:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I always forget.
• 54:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or it's like I come home from work and I'm like, oh man, like uh I gotta film a podcast and then we'll see what happens.
• 54:34
SPEAKER_01: But um, like I never want to do social stuff, so I will.
• 54:38
SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm committing to be better at it though, like trying to get better at it.
• 54:41
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and I I'm like, okay, minimum I'm trying to put out like one video a week.
• 54:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and sometimes I'm like, oh, I'm gonna do every other day, and just like be on top of it.
• 54:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's just like yeah, I don't know.
• 54:54
SPEAKER_00: And I try it's hard because I try not to be on social media like a ton.
• 54:58
SPEAKER_00: And so it's like, yeah.
• 55:00
  SPEAKER_01: I know, and I I have I don't know if you've heard of the brick.
• 55:03
SPEAKER_01: Yes, but my phone is uh it's bricked right now, which is oh really that's a great term.
• 55:07
SPEAKER_01: Um but bricked up, yeah, it's bricked up, so I can't access any social media apps, which is like great for the workday, but then when I get off work, it's like okay, now I gotta switch modes.
• 55:17
  SPEAKER_01: Um that's just something I'm learning.
• 55:19
SPEAKER_01: But anyways, yeah, random tangent.
• 55:22
SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I mean I'd also love to know like what's the future of running look like for you too?
• 55:27
SPEAKER_01: Like what are your plans?
• 55:28
  SPEAKER_01: What are your goals?
• 55:29
SPEAKER_00: Um, well, I've been on since that 258 marathon.
• 55:35
SPEAKER_00: Well, I guess this the fall before that I ran on just under 125.
• 55:40
SPEAKER_00: And since then it's been like every race has been like a PR, and I'm almost just like waiting, like I'm gonna have a really bad race, or like the real I'm gonna, you know, an injured big injury is gonna pop up.
• 55:52
SPEAKER_00: But till then, I'm gonna, you know, this year I've already PR'd the marathon, the half, and the 5k and the mile.
• 56:00
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 56:01
SPEAKER_00: So I'm running September, the Cedar City half.
• 56:06
SPEAKER_00: I want to go under 120 in that.
• 56:08
  SPEAKER_00: That'll be a good one.
• 56:08
  SPEAKER_00: Which is like a 606 pace.
• 56:11
SPEAKER_00: Um, and then in the next couple weeks, I want to go under five in the mile, just as like a little side quest.
• 56:17
SPEAKER_00: Because I've never done that before, which would be cool.
• 56:19
  SPEAKER_00: That would be cool.
• 56:20
SPEAKER_00: And then in May, I want to do go under 250 and like actually qualify and get into Boston.
• 56:27
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I'll actually run it because it's super expensive.
• 56:32
  SPEAKER_00: Like Boston?
• 56:33
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 56:33
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 56:34
SPEAKER_00: Just the entry fee is like 500 bucks.
• 56:36
SPEAKER_00: I know, it's like you have flights and the hotels are all expensive and food.
• 56:41
SPEAKER_00: It's like five grand for the weekend, and I'm like, plus wife and kids, and so I almost want to get in and then not do it, and then just wait for my wife to qualify, and then I'll start with her.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I know she's going to eventually, yeah.
• 56:57
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I want to like actually get in before I turn 35 or whatever.
• 57:02
SPEAKER_00: So I have a couple more years.
• 57:04
SPEAKER_00: Um, and so yeah, the next up until I turn 34-35 during my peak body, you know, where the peak running body.
• 57:13
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
• 57:14
  SPEAKER_00: That's what they say.
• 57:14
SPEAKER_00: After 35, it kind of starts slowing down.
• 57:17
SPEAKER_00: So I will probably stick to roads um up until then and just try and get as fast as possible.
• 57:25
SPEAKER_00: Because it's easier too when you have kids and you have limited time, getting to a trail, running slow on the trail, that's true, getting back home.
• 57:33
SPEAKER_00: Like, it's just so hard to get like trail miles in.
• 57:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I've done like a couple 50Ks and a 50 miler, and eventually I'm gonna go back to that because I love it.
• 57:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but again, it's just not this time period in my life.
• 57:46
SPEAKER_01: So I know, and that's yeah, I I um I have a race um Nebo half on August 29th, and then um I had to defer my 50 miler last April or this April to next April, and I'm like, I don't know how I'm gonna do that because you know, like you just said, it takes longer to get to the trail, and you run in four hours, like and then sometimes you're running like five hours on the trail for a run.
• 58:11
SPEAKER_00: You gotta come home and like still be a president, still be a dad.
• 58:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, like it just sometimes I see you know these young single people running and stuff like that.
• 58:20
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, they could go have a killer 22 miler and then just nap all day, then just sleep.
• 58:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like that sounds great.
• 58:27
SPEAKER_00: That would be incredible, but yeah, but you know, can't do that.
• 58:31
  SPEAKER_01: I know.
• 58:31
  SPEAKER_01: I I love trail runs though.
• 58:33
SPEAKER_01: Um, which ones did you run?
• 58:35
SPEAKER_00: I did the Dead Horse Point 50K in Mohawk.
• 58:40
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
• 58:41
SPEAKER_00: Oh no, so no, Antelope Island 50K, and then I did a self-supported 50k on Antelope Island training for the 50 miler.
• 58:49
SPEAKER_00: That was the dead horse point, yeah.
• 58:51
SPEAKER_00: And I ran it with my dad.
• 58:52
  SPEAKER_00: It was awesome.
• 58:53
SPEAKER_00: Um we basically stayed together the whole time.
• 58:57
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, one of the other than like my first time going under three, that's been my favorite race.
• 59:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 59:02
SPEAKER_01: Well, do you know what your time was for that?
• 59:04
  SPEAKER_00: I'd have to look.
• 59:05
  SPEAKER_00: It wasn't super fast.
• 59:06
SPEAKER_00: I think it was maybe just under 12 hours, like 11 something.
• 59:10
  SPEAKER_01: That's pretty good though.
• 59:11
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was good.
• 59:13
SPEAKER_01: I actually I met Mason at the Canyon Lands race.
• 59:15
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
• 59:16
SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, so that's that's how I knew him.
• 59:18
SPEAKER_01: But um, your dad sounds like a beast.
• 59:21
SPEAKER_00: He is, he just turned 60.
• 59:22
SPEAKER_00: He's basically qualified for Boston like every marathon he's ran.
• 59:26
  SPEAKER_00: That's insane.
• 59:27
SPEAKER_00: And now that he's 60, he ran Ogden this last year, and I think he had like a 30-minute buffer.
• 59:32
  SPEAKER_00: No way.
• 59:33
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's insane.
• 59:35
  SPEAKER_00: So he'll he'll continue to qualify.
• 59:37
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 59:37
SPEAKER_00: Basically as long as he runs.
• 59:39
  SPEAKER_00: That's wild.
• 59:39
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a machine.
• 59:41
SPEAKER_00: And it's funny too, because I love learning about running.
• 59:45
SPEAKER_00: I love shoes, nutrition, you know, learning about all the different techniques and stuff, like training.
• 59:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's like so old fashioned.
• 59:54
SPEAKER_00: He runs in ultra, he's never run anything else.
• 59:57
  SPEAKER_00: Ultra.
• 59:57
  SPEAKER_00: No way, really.
• 59:59
SPEAKER_00: He runs three days a week, that's it.
• 1:00:01
SPEAKER_00: Doesn't get his mileage up that high, but he has been so consistent with it that he has just gotten better.
• 1:00:07
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I'm like, I'll I'll like try to like send him like topo shoes, like, hey, these are really good, wide toe box, yeah, just like ultra.
• 1:00:16
SPEAKER_00: Or like, you know, if you just added one more day of running a week, like you see some results.
• 1:00:21
SPEAKER_00: Or he did speed work, he doesn't do his speed work.
• 1:00:24
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, he doesn't do speed work and he's no all of his runs are like almost the same pace.
• 1:00:29
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, that's so he doesn't do like the easy, most easy, one hard.
• 1:00:34
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 1:00:35
SPEAKER_00: But he's just you know stuck in his ways and it's worked for him, so it's kind of hard to you know argue.
• 1:00:41
  SPEAKER_01: I mean that's a great example, though.
• 1:00:43
SPEAKER_01: Like, I think you and I were talking about this one time, and you know, you commented on a podcast, you're like, you just wait, people are the worst.
• 1:00:49
  SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
• 1:00:49
SPEAKER_01: Um I hear this all the yeah, I hear this all the time though, about running where people are like, You just wait till you're 40 and your knees give out.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, I have I see so many people who like even how you were saying in the beginning, who are running these races and are 60 plus.
• 1:01:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like I think if you're just consistent and you take care of your body, like you're not overdoing it.
• 1:01:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you eat right, you recover, um, you'll be okay.
• 1:01:13
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's 100% agree.
• 1:01:15
SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't think I don't know, people they overthink it too much, yeah.
• 1:01:19
SPEAKER_01: Or they just don't want to or they just don't want to do it, and they're like, Oh, your knees are gonna be down.
• 1:01:23
SPEAKER_00: They see you, you know, doing well.
• 1:01:26
  SPEAKER_00: So interesting.
• 1:01:27
SPEAKER_00: I actually am probably doing there's a 50k on Analope Island in October.
• 1:01:31
  SPEAKER_01: Really?
• 1:01:32
SPEAKER_00: Me, I think Brady might do that.
• 1:01:34
  SPEAKER_00: They have a 10 miler, 50k, and like 75k.
• 1:01:38
  SPEAKER_01: Dang.
• 1:01:39
SPEAKER_00: Um, so I mean some friends are just gonna jump into it.
• 1:01:43
SPEAKER_00: You should totally look into it.
• 1:01:44
SPEAKER_01: I would look into it.
• 1:01:45
SPEAKER_00: It only has like 3,000 feet of elevation.
• 1:01:49
  SPEAKER_00: That's not too bad.
• 1:01:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so you know you wouldn't need like a ton of hill training, and yeah, it'd get you ready for April if you still want to do it.
• 1:01:57
SPEAKER_01: I just have to make sure because that'll be like a month after the baby's born.
• 1:02:00
  SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
• 1:02:01
  SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's true.
• 1:02:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll see.
• 1:02:03
SPEAKER_01: But I would love to do that.
• 1:02:04
  SPEAKER_01: That sounds fun.
• 1:02:05
SPEAKER_01: And like Antelope, Antelope Island, is it Antelope Park or Antelope Island?
• 1:02:08
SPEAKER_00: Antelope Island, it's a state park, yeah.
• 1:02:10
  SPEAKER_01: That's a state park, okay.
• 1:02:11
SPEAKER_01: Like Braden was telling me about that, and it's literally an island in Utah, and I had no idea.
• 1:02:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we I actually live like the causeway, the road to get out to it, the highway is like a two-minute drive.
• 1:02:23
SPEAKER_00: Like, I ran on the causeway a lot, I run out there a lot.
• 1:02:26
SPEAKER_00: That's pretty cool, and there's bison just out there, like roaming, like hundreds of them.
• 1:02:30
  SPEAKER_00: That's insane.
• 1:02:31
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll show you a video after.
• 1:02:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, it was me alone, and actually that same year, a guy, a trail runner got trampled and died.
• 1:02:39
SPEAKER_00: He was up by bison, yes, by like third of them.
• 1:02:42
  SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
• 1:02:43
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's horrible.
• 1:02:44
SPEAKER_00: And then here I am, like running by myself a couple weeks after I come up the hill, and there's like hundreds of them.
• 1:02:51
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm supposed to go right there.
• 1:02:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I like went way off the trail, and they're like running my same way.
• 1:03:00
  SPEAKER_01: It's wild.
• 1:03:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's super cool though.
• 1:03:01
SPEAKER_01: I bet that felt kind of like primal though.
• 1:03:04
SPEAKER_01: Running with bison, you're like, this is pretty cool.
• 1:03:07
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're a good distance away.
• 1:03:09
SPEAKER_00: I'm not running like no, yeah.
• 1:03:10
SPEAKER_01: No, absolutely I would hope not.
• 1:03:12
SPEAKER_00: But no, it was super cool.
• 1:03:14
SPEAKER_00: And I'm the only one, it was like a weekday.
• 1:03:15
SPEAKER_00: I was the only one out there.
• 1:03:17
  SPEAKER_00: That's so cool.
• 1:03:18
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's awesome.
• 1:03:19
SPEAKER_01: Um, that's one thing we didn't talk about, though, is recovery.
• 1:03:22
SPEAKER_01: Do you have a protocol?
• 1:03:23
SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you what do you do to recover?
• 1:03:25
SPEAKER_01: Because you run so much.
• 1:03:26
SPEAKER_00: Um for me, I would say sleep, but I don't get good sleep.
• 1:03:31
SPEAKER_00: Um I was actually looking at like my garment trends like year over year, and like in sleep.
• 1:03:37
SPEAKER_00: Every year it's just like gotten lower and lower.
• 1:03:40
SPEAKER_00: I think over this last year, my average sleep a night is like five hours and 15 minutes or something like that.
• 1:03:47
SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I I used to be like that, like six months ago, and now I've reversed it because like I'm taking magnesium and like a few other supplements that have helped me so much, and now I'm getting like seven hours a night and I feel great, and I'm like, oh man, just just in time for the baby.
• 1:04:01
SPEAKER_01: I fixed my sleep just in time for the baby.
• 1:04:04
SPEAKER_01: But um, okay, so sleep is one.
• 1:04:06
SPEAKER_00: I would say sleep, prioritize it if you can.
• 1:04:08
SPEAKER_00: Um and I work night shift, so it's really hard for me because I flip-flop.
• 1:04:14
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 1:04:14
SPEAKER_00: Um, but I also try to eat healthy and exercise to combat because everyone's like, if you work night shift, you're cutting off eight years of your life.
• 1:04:23
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you've ever heard that.
• 1:04:24
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 1:04:24
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 1:04:25
SPEAKER_00: They say that all the time.
• 1:04:25
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, well, I also exercise a lot and I eat healthy, so whatever.
• 1:04:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I feel pretty good about myself.
• 1:04:32
SPEAKER_00: Eating enough is a big problem a lot of runners have is they try and lose weight.
• 1:04:37
SPEAKER_00: And if you're losing weight and upping your intensity and running a bunch of miles, stress fractures pop up, injuries pop up.
• 1:04:45
SPEAKER_00: Um, so I comfortably sit around like 170, 175.
• 1:04:49
  SPEAKER_00: I don't restrict anything if I'm hungry.
• 1:04:52
  SPEAKER_00: I eat.
• 1:04:52
SPEAKER_00: Do you track calories or anything?
• 1:04:54
SPEAKER_00: No, and I could probably eat a lot less like processed food and like you know, sugar.
• 1:05:01
  SPEAKER_01: We all can.
• 1:05:02
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's hard.
• 1:05:03
  SPEAKER_01: It is hard.
• 1:05:04
SPEAKER_01: It's like the goldfish looks so good.
• 1:05:06
  SPEAKER_00: Goldfish, yeah.
• 1:05:07
  SPEAKER_00: Anything sweet.
• 1:05:09
SPEAKER_00: We just tried the Trader Dough Trader Joe's cookie dough bites.
• 1:05:13
  SPEAKER_01: That sounds amazing.
• 1:05:14
SPEAKER_00: It's like ice cream in the middle of surrounded by cookie dough and present, and they're so good.
• 1:05:20
  SPEAKER_01: That sounds so good.
• 1:05:21
  SPEAKER_01: Come on.
• 1:05:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Trader Joe's, what are you doing?
• 1:05:23
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't get them.
• 1:05:24
SPEAKER_00: Just don't even get exposed to the goodness, anyways.
• 1:05:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, so yeah, eating enough calories is big um as far as like staying healthy, and then yeah, kind of knowing your limits.
• 1:05:37
SPEAKER_00: Most of my runs are pretty easy.
• 1:05:39
SPEAKER_00: You know, my heart rate's under 140, and then you know, one to two runs a week are pretty hard.
• 1:05:46
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:05:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, and if I have you know some a sore calf, I take it really easy.
• 1:05:52
SPEAKER_00: It's it's really, you know, listening to your body, figuring out what is soreness, what is the injury coming up.
• 1:05:58
SPEAKER_00: Um, and the more you run, I mean, you know this.
• 1:06:00
SPEAKER_00: The more you run, the more in tune with your body you get.
• 1:06:03
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:06:03
SPEAKER_01: It's super weird how that happens, but that's true.
• 1:06:06
  SPEAKER_01: Like you understand.
• 1:06:07
SPEAKER_01: It's like, okay, well, today I gotta ease off.
• 1:06:09
SPEAKER_01: Or like, I'm feeling good today.
• 1:06:10
  SPEAKER_01: I'm going, I'm going for it.
• 1:06:11
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 1:06:12
SPEAKER_01: Um, you really do like understand that, which is I think just the more that you do it, you understand you become, I guess, more acquainted with how you feel.
• 1:06:20
SPEAKER_00: It's a hard balance of like, I need to push it because the more I push it, I'm gonna get better.
• 1:06:25
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, am I pushing it too hard?
• 1:06:27
  SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna get injured.
• 1:06:28
SPEAKER_00: Like, but the biggest thing with running is like consistency.
• 1:06:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like time on your feet, you will get faster the more you run.
• 1:06:37
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
• 1:06:39
SPEAKER_01: And that's why like I I love the fact that consistency is the the the thing that makes you a better runner.
• 1:06:45
SPEAKER_01: Um, it's not like what shoes that you have or um like what your training plan looks like, it's if you're actually doing the work um that directly translates to what your results will be.
• 1:06:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah um and that's like going back to the metaphor for life thing.
• 1:07:00
SPEAKER_01: Like I was talking to my wife the other day, and um, you know, her dad was a very successful man.
• 1:07:07
SPEAKER_01: Um, and she's like, it's funny because you know, he wasn't the smartest, um, he wasn't like the best at what he did, but he was he just worked so hard and he was consistent.
• 1:07:17
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, you know, that's that's what it's all about.
• 1:07:19
SPEAKER_01: And and you know, I'm not saying that there's people out there who will be really consistent and you know, go from your story of four four twelve to you know two fifty-eight in in a short amount of time, but it's like you can do some pretty amazing things if you just decide like hey, this is what my goals are, this is what I'm gonna try and do, and I'm gonna show up every single day or the the days that I have scheduled, I'm gonna show up and do my best and like just see where that takes you.
• 1:07:47
SPEAKER_01: Because like that's kind of where I was.
• 1:07:49
  SPEAKER_01: I when I first started running, I had 11-minute paces.
• 1:07:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you know, the more that I did it, the better I got, and now I'm just falling in love with it.
• 1:07:57
SPEAKER_01: So it's super interesting how it happens.
• 1:07:59
SPEAKER_00: And you know, there are naturally gifted runners, yeah.
• 1:08:03
SPEAKER_00: Like my friend Braden Hall, so he'd never run a race before.
• 1:08:07
SPEAKER_00: This was when I ran 258 in Ogden, and he wanted to go.
• 1:08:12
SPEAKER_00: We trained a lot together.
• 1:08:13
SPEAKER_00: He was doing like 70 mile weeks, super like not injury prone at all, like putting in the work like that 16 weeks, shows up to Ogden, right?
• 1:08:24
SPEAKER_00: This is his first marathon, first half, no half marathons or anything.
• 1:08:28
SPEAKER_00: We ran the first 22 miles together.
• 1:08:31
SPEAKER_00: No way, and he pulled away and he beat me in his first marathon ever.
• 1:08:35
SPEAKER_00: Yes, and I'm like, holy crap, like you know, this is my fourth marathon, lots of miles on my legs, and but so I guess my point bringing him up is like there are natural born runners, but no matter who you are, you can have progress, you can progress in running with consistency.
• 1:08:58
  SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
• 1:08:58
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, I love it.
• 1:08:59
SPEAKER_01: No matter who you are, yeah, for sure.
• 1:09:01
SPEAKER_01: There's um, I think you might have heard through this podcast like about the team Tim race that my wife does.
• 1:09:07
SPEAKER_01: So my mom, she told me like two years ago, she's like, I'm never gonna run again.
• 1:09:12
SPEAKER_01: She used to be a runner, she ran Chicago.
• 1:09:14
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, nice.
• 1:09:14
SPEAKER_01: Um, and she's like, Yeah, I'm not I'm not running anymore.
• 1:09:18
  SPEAKER_01: Like, my hips hurt.
• 1:09:19
SPEAKER_01: And um, we convinced her to run the Team Tim race, and she's like, I don't know if I can do that.
• 1:09:25
SPEAKER_01: Um, she ended up training for a 10K and my mom and Allie's mom, they both ran it together, and it's just like it was so cool because she like swore it off, and then she would text me, she'd be like, Hey, I got three miles in today, or hey, I got four miles, and it's my long run today.
• 1:09:39
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, that's just awesome to see.
• 1:09:41
SPEAKER_01: And I just like what we were talking about earlier, like it's so fun to see people who just don't know what they can do start to uncover that.
• 1:09:49
  SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's pretty rewarding.
• 1:09:51
SPEAKER_01: Elevating and uplifting, it's great.
• 1:09:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's one of my favorite parts.
• 1:09:54
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can't wait for you guys to have the team team up here in Utah.
• 1:09:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we we we've got to do that.
• 1:10:00
SPEAKER_00: For that because unfortunately, I can't go down to Arizona and be a part of it.
• 1:10:04
SPEAKER_00: But when you come to Utah, I will be there.
• 1:10:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I mean we're gonna we're gonna probably move it around.
• 1:10:09
SPEAKER_01: I think this year it'll be Arizona, but um, who knows what next year we're gonna do.
• 1:10:13
SPEAKER_01: So but yeah, we we've I don't know, it's it's grown into something pretty cool, and my wife's got some pretty cool plans for it.
• 1:10:20
SPEAKER_01: So we'll have to stay tuned.
• 1:10:22
SPEAKER_01: But um yeah, man, I I think honestly, we covered a lot today.
• 1:10:28
SPEAKER_01: Um I'm uplifted, I'm excited to go run again.
• 1:10:31
  SPEAKER_00: Me too.
• 1:10:31
SPEAKER_01: But um, is there anything else you want to share or anything else that's on your mind?
• 1:10:36
  SPEAKER_00: Um no, not necessarily.
• 1:10:40
SPEAKER_00: I mean, if anyone has running questions, reach out to me.
• 1:10:43
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, hit them up.
• 1:10:44
SPEAKER_00: Most of the most of the time, I almost feel bad when someone asks me a question and I respond with like four huge paragraphs.
• 1:10:51
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, maybe I'm going overboard, but like I want to cover all the bases.
• 1:10:54
SPEAKER_00: I want to help you out as much as possible.
• 1:10:57
  SPEAKER_01: No, I love that.
• 1:10:58
  SPEAKER_01: Hey, you know, that's that's that's what a good friend does.
• 1:11:00
SPEAKER_01: It's like, hey, I'll give you all the knowledge I have.
• 1:11:03
SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, seriously, thanks for coming on the show and talking all about it.
• 1:11:07
  SPEAKER_00: Dude, this is awesome.
• 1:11:07
SPEAKER_01: It's been fun, and yeah, I'm we gotta get some runs in together.
• 1:11:11
  SPEAKER_01: I know you're you're up near Antelope.
• 1:11:12
SPEAKER_01: Yep, up, yeah, but uh every Tuesday I work in Logan, actually.
• 1:11:16
SPEAKER_01: So on my way back or whatever, if it lines up, um, that'd be fun to go out and run.
• 1:11:21
SPEAKER_01: But also let you know about the 50k.
• 1:11:23
SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, and I'm sure we'll have some races together in the future.
• 1:11:27
SPEAKER_01: We've got to do it, we've got to.
• 1:11:28
SPEAKER_01: But seriously, thanks again for coming on, Jace.
• 1:11:30
  SPEAKER_01: You're awesome, man.
• 1:11:31
  SPEAKER_01: Love this podcast.
• 1:11:32
  SPEAKER_01: No, thank you.
• 1:11:34
SPEAKER_00: I haven't missed an episode since Braden was on.
• 1:11:36
  SPEAKER_01: Dude, you're the man.
• 1:11:37
SPEAKER_01: That's you are the the reason this podcast keeps going.
• 1:11:40
SPEAKER_00: It's like you helps me, it motivates me.
• 1:11:42
SPEAKER_01: Well, I appreciate that, man.
• 1:11:43
SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, that's the goal is like if I can help one person, and if that one person isn't is you 150 times, I'll take it, dude.
• 1:11:49
  SPEAKER_01: I will take it.
• 1:11:51
SPEAKER_01: But um, no, seriously, thank you.
• 1:11:52
SPEAKER_01: And thank you for the support.
• 1:11:53
SPEAKER_01: Like you're wearing the shirt, you look great in it, as everyone does if you ever get a shirt.
• 1:11:58
SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, seriously, thanks for coming on.
• 1:12:01
SPEAKER_01: And um, everybody else, thank you for listening.
• 1:12:04
SPEAKER_01: And uh, as always, keep getting after it.
