- 0:08Speaker 1: Hi, everybody.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I like your shirt.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Oh thank you. Yes, the body can't really
- 0:21Speaker 1: see the bottom, but it says, what up, party people.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Okay, here we go. I'm gonna pop because I'm having
- 0:27Speaker 2: some move rose and then I'm drinking a row.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yes, all right, so this is not as fancy as yours,
- 0:42Speaker 1: but neither am I. I'm not as fancy as you.
- 0:45Speaker 1: See this is. They need clever things on here. It
- 0:47Speaker 1: just says enjoy safely. Please read warning below. But there's
- 0:51Speaker 1: no warning below. So this is This is barefoot, bubbly
- 0:58Speaker 1: rawberry fruit scato. Oh, this is gonna be interesting. Oh
- 1:04Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm as fancy this as you are.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We're gonna see what this is gonna go everywhere? Watch this.
- 1:09Speaker 2: This is gonna oh see I didn't let it go everywhere.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Well, I'm gonna try not to let it. Well hmm,
- 1:17Speaker 1: he's gonna shoot us flowed.
- 1:19Speaker 2: What he's gonna shoot it? He's gonna shoot it. He
- 1:24Speaker 2: shot it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: That was incredibly loud. I'm just glad I didn't pop everywhere? Where?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Did it go? Did it go behind my back? I
- 1:32Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:32Speaker 2: See I didn't do that because last time I did
- 1:35Speaker 2: that when we were recording. It hit the fan and
- 1:39Speaker 2: then spawn and hit the wall, and it was a
- 1:41Speaker 2: big old mess it.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It jumped, it bounced up, It hit my diagonal wall,
- 1:46Speaker 1: my angled wall and the acoustic tiles, and then bounced
- 1:50Speaker 1: over here and down behind my back.
- 1:54Speaker 2: That takes talent. Cheers.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I have a feeling this was supposed to be cold.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Uh, it said bubbly right, bubbly supposed to be called JT.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Come on, I didn't say I was good at this.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Are you're laughing at me? You're laughing and that everybody's
- 2:19Speaker 1: laughing at me. That's fine. Oh. Yes, for those of
- 2:23Speaker 1: you who missed the some of the other shows, Terry's
- 2:27Speaker 1: got a show coming out in May Mondays and Wednesdays
- 2:30Speaker 1: at twelve Central midday, Missing and Terry is going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: highlight missing person cases in order to get the word out,
- 2:38Speaker 1: to shed some light. You said, it's like a combination
- 2:41Speaker 1: of like known cases but mostly unknown. That. Yes, that
- 2:47Speaker 1: is correct, because not everybody is white and blonde exactly. Oh,
- 2:55Speaker 1: should we hop into some news.
- 2:57Speaker 2: We should.
- 2:59Speaker 1: All right do that. Let's do that right. It's you know,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's a little it's a little false advertising because some
- 3:14Speaker 1: of the news that we cover is not gonna be
- 3:16Speaker 1: still breaking, but maybe it'll be breaking to you. So
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's all relative, right, Well it is. There's a woman
- 3:23Speaker 1: from you know, it doesn't matter where she's from. She
- 3:26Speaker 1: called nine one, which normally people do, and I would
- 3:30Speaker 1: not call people out for this. However, an alleged Matthews
- 3:33Speaker 1: or landed herself behind bars when she called Indiana police
- 3:35Speaker 1: to rat out her drug dealer, telling cops that the
- 3:37Speaker 1: batch was quote not quote, it was supposed to be.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Her name, Sarah Harris. She's thirty four, and she dialed
- 3:44Speaker 1: nine one one twice in January to complain that she
- 3:47Speaker 1: was supplied with a bad baggie of meth. She then
- 3:52Speaker 1: allegedly handed the drugs over to the cops at her
- 3:55Speaker 1: home in the city of Bedford and hopes that they
- 3:57Speaker 1: could test the drugs authenticity. Ugh, it left her feeling
- 4:03Speaker 1: as though she was having a heart attack, She told
- 4:05Speaker 1: the police, maybe you shouldn't do math. Harris allegedly admitted
- 4:09Speaker 1: to snorting a line with the substance and then felt
- 4:10Speaker 1: something different when it touched her skin and nostrils. She
- 4:15Speaker 1: knew it was right, she said. She compared the painful
- 4:18Speaker 1: sensation to the quote bowl of normal myth. She smoked
- 4:21Speaker 1: with a friend previously a man. She was slack with
- 4:29Speaker 1: the meth possession scharge, which carries a maximum thirty month
- 4:33Speaker 1: prison sentence. It's not the first run and she's had
- 4:36Speaker 1: with cops. She has prior convictions for theft, meth possession one.
- 4:40Speaker 1: They kind of go hand in hand, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct,
- 4:43Speaker 1: resisting and operating a middle vehicle while intoxicated. What a win.
- 4:49Speaker 1: What a win. So there's your Indiana.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Even Jasper is smart enough to not do that.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yes, Jasper is smarter than a fifth grader. You know
- 4:59Speaker 1: that whole You know, Twitter being a social media conglomerate.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's now X that I refused to call X. So
- 5:06Speaker 1: it's Twitter. They're doing so well. They're doing so well
- 5:10Speaker 1: that they've decided that they're auctioning off office items from
- 5:14Speaker 1: its headquarters. Oh this is old. I told you it's
- 5:18Speaker 1: not breaking. This was in twenty twenty two. For twenty
- 5:21Speaker 1: twenty three. Yeah, they auctioned off some of their surplus
- 5:24Speaker 1: items at San France, California headquarters, including statues, kitchen items, furniture,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and more like an at sign with plants in it
- 5:32Speaker 1: and apparently they were just getting ready to lose a
- 5:35Speaker 1: ton of Oh yeah, this is exactly why they did it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Let's see, after the weeks of chaos since Elon Musk's
- 5:43Speaker 1: forty four billion dollar takeover. Just last week was the
- 5:45Speaker 1: report of the company started converting some of its empty
- 5:47Speaker 1: headquarters offices into bedrooms for employees. Quote it's pretty obvious
- 5:51Speaker 1: that they're sleeping at the office. They're certainly an expectation
- 5:53Speaker 1: given that beds, full, queen size beds, mattresses, the whole
- 5:57Speaker 1: thing were brought into Twitter HQ over the weekend and
- 6:00Speaker 1: employees were not informed this was happening. This is not
- 6:03Speaker 1: the first time that Elon has actually used the building
- 6:06Speaker 1: for what it's not intended to be. So this hardcore
- 6:10Speaker 1: culture laid out by Musk will likely lead to more
- 6:12Speaker 1: people leaving Twitter. You were right, sir, About two thirds
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the company staff had been fired or resign so far,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and it just got in worse, just got in worse.
- 6:22Speaker 2: So well, considering what Tesla did this week, laid off
- 6:28Speaker 2: fourteen thousand people people in Texas. They sent them an
- 6:34Speaker 2: email to the work email at like three o'clock in
- 6:36Speaker 2: the morning Menday morning, so if you didn't check your
- 6:39Speaker 2: email before you went to the office, you didn't know
- 6:44Speaker 2: that you didn't have a job. You got told when
- 6:46Speaker 2: you showed up to try to go in. Now you
- 6:51Speaker 2: know that is just horrible. And some of these people
- 6:55Speaker 2: had relocated from California.
- 6:58Speaker 1: This is the dude who has billions of billions of
- 7:02Speaker 1: dollars and he's laying people off.
- 7:06Speaker 2: He's gonna get in some trouble because he apparently there's
- 7:09Speaker 2: rumors he did not do the official warn notice, which
- 7:12Speaker 2: is required in Texas, and that he got some tax
- 7:16Speaker 2: abatement credits for hiring a certain number of people and
- 7:19Speaker 2: employing them. You can't lay them off like that.
- 7:25Speaker 1: He got the he got the credit and then he
- 7:26Speaker 1: laid them off.
- 7:27Speaker 2: What I mean, I'm just gonna say he's nobody. I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 2: everybody needs jobs. You need money, but find a company
- 7:38Speaker 2: that respects and values you. Companies have to make hard
- 7:41Speaker 2: decisions and you have to lay people off. It happens.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I have had to do it. You don't do it
- 7:47Speaker 2: that way.
- 7:50Speaker 1: At all. No, no, not at all, do it to
- 7:54Speaker 1: their face or find something.
- 7:57Speaker 2: You don't just lock them out of the building. And
- 7:59Speaker 2: then the call he made when people were upset. Seventy
- 8:02Speaker 2: made the comment. Spokesperson for them says, well, our employees
- 8:06Speaker 2: have been told they should check their emails first thing
- 8:09Speaker 2: every morning. Excuse the hell out of me. You oh
- 8:13Speaker 2: not be able to tell me what to do when
- 8:15Speaker 2: I'm off the clock.
- 8:17Speaker 1: He expects them to work twenty four to seven. Yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 1: he's just another reason why he's a butt cheek. On
- 8:25Speaker 1: a funnier note, h, there was a man who attempted
- 8:29Speaker 1: to rob a store. This is courtesy of I think
- 8:33Speaker 1: it's a LAMA. I think this is from LAMA. She
- 8:34Speaker 1: can correct me if I'm wrong. But there was a
- 8:36Speaker 1: man who attempted to rob a store. But he did
- 8:39Speaker 1: so well, let me just let me just read it. Stee.
- 8:42Speaker 1: This is a Memphis man's in jail after allegedly attempting
- 8:45Speaker 1: to rob a store three times, including the use of
- 8:49Speaker 1: a snake. Reginald Cook, twenty six, is charged with two
- 8:53Speaker 1: counts of attempted aggravated robbery. Please say, around two am,
- 8:57Speaker 1: he attempted to rob the Shell Convenience store and implied
- 8:59Speaker 1: that he had a weapon. According to the affidavit, Cook
- 9:03Speaker 1: entered the store again and demanded money from the register.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The victim said that Cook kept reaching into his clothing,
- 9:09Speaker 1: implying that he had a gun. The Cook left the
- 9:12Speaker 1: store after the victim refused. At approximately three h five am,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Cook entered the store for the third time, but with
- 9:19Speaker 1: a five foot snake wrapped around his neck like Alice Cooper,
- 9:27Speaker 1: what are you doing, dude? Ummy? So the first time
- 9:30Speaker 1: didn't work, and the second time didn't work. The third
- 9:31Speaker 1: time he walked up to the counter and said, give
- 9:33Speaker 1: me the damn money.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he decided it wasn't working, right, I mean, I
- 9:41Speaker 2: have to say, you walk in with the snake or
- 9:43Speaker 2: a spider, I'm going to give you whatever you want.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The affidavit states the victim saw Cook reaching inside his backpack,
- 9:48Speaker 1: implying his arm to the weapon. The victim pulled his
- 9:50Speaker 1: gun in self defense. Police say no money was taking,
- 9:53Speaker 1: no injuries were sustained. That was luck. Minutes later, proficers
- 9:57Speaker 1: arrived and took him into custody. Champ What a champ?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Was a snake? Injured?
- 10:06Speaker 1: No? No darn well, other than the fact that he
- 10:09Speaker 1: had it. Let's see, Okay, I got two more. This
- 10:14Speaker 1: one's quick, there's more science y, but oh this is
- 10:16Speaker 1: old too. What was I doing when I was looking
- 10:19Speaker 1: these up. It doesn't matter. The world's deepest fish was
- 10:21Speaker 1: caught on cameras for the first time by scientists over
- 10:23Speaker 1: twenty seven thousand feet below the surface. She's insane.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Is he white because he doesn't get sun?
- 10:33Speaker 1: But it is what it is. Okay, here's the last thing.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think some of our folks this is old too.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You know what, I don't care. I don't care anyways.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Back in twenty twenty two, because that's where my brain's
- 10:43Speaker 1: at these days, they found a skeleton of a woman
- 10:46Speaker 1: in Poland who suspected of being a vampire in the
- 10:49Speaker 1: seventeenth century. You know what, I really didn't look at this.
- 10:52Speaker 1: There's no more than that. It's a video and I'm
- 10:54Speaker 1: not gonna play it because it's CBS and they'll cancel.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Not as much fun. But you have something better, do
- 11:09Speaker 1: I bet you he wish was he was?
- 11:12Speaker 2: So this first thing I have because those that don't know.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Besides the loving goats, I love elephants. Elephant Rome Streets Abute, Montana.
- 11:22Speaker 2: After escaping from the circus, the elephant named Viola was
- 11:28Speaker 2: getting her routine bath when a nearby truck backfired, so
- 11:33Speaker 2: she took off. They have pictures of her running down
- 11:38Speaker 2: the street. And here's the funny thing. They said, Man,
- 11:42Speaker 2: they move fast. I don't know. I'm like, just because
- 11:47Speaker 2: they're big doesn't mean they can't run. But now the
- 11:52Speaker 2: other one is good news for everybody in the US.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Wendy's is giving out free French fries every Friday for
- 12:02Speaker 2: the rest of the year. All you have to do
- 12:05Speaker 2: is make a purchase. It can be a frosty and
- 12:09Speaker 2: then you can get free French fries. There is no minimum,
- 12:15Speaker 2: So Friday Friday, I like their French fries. That's my
- 12:21Speaker 2: really good nutt news because that is thirty seven Fridays
- 12:27Speaker 2: for the rest of the year. That is thirty seven
- 12:30Speaker 2: orders of French fries.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Do we have any panda news?
- 12:36Speaker 2: Luck, My older son loves pandas giant pandas.
- 12:43Speaker 1: When was this out? Let me take a look at
- 12:45Speaker 1: the Oh, this is newer, No, it's not yesterday.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You find the San Francisco in so, San Francisco Mayor
- 12:52Speaker 2: looks forward to bringing back pandas from China. They're bringing
- 12:57Speaker 2: two a pair of giant pandas from China to the
- 13:01Speaker 2: San Diego Zoo.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Wow. Not that exciting if you live out there. Maybe perhaps, Yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: but if not.
- 13:14Speaker 2: What handas aren't useless? They're cute and you can cuddle them.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I don't know if you can cuddle giant.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Pandas, but you right in the world.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Okay, neither am I, but I'm still cuddly.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Well, I mean that's okay that you can't, because it
- 13:34Speaker 1: wasn't about the politicians. It was about the pandas.
- 13:38Speaker 2: About the pandas, so focus.
- 13:40Speaker 1: On that and you won't have to worry about it. Okay.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So that's the end of the not really breaking away.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's kind of the start of our cases. Do you
- 13:54Speaker 1: want to go first or do you want to go second?
- 13:57Speaker 2: I can go first since I fed him. Oh my well,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I can tell you this. My case is not about
- 14:07Speaker 2: any cute animals. I will say. The bank robber in
- 14:12Speaker 2: this movie or in this movie, Oh my god, my
- 14:16Speaker 2: brain in this case wanted to be like Body aka
- 14:23Speaker 2: Patrick Swayze and Point Break literally watched the Point Break
- 14:28Speaker 2: movie to get this idea. I personally found that funny
- 14:34Speaker 2: because I happened to love Point Break.
- 14:38Speaker 1: All right, bring it on.
- 14:41Speaker 2: The almost great this robbery is kind of ingenious in
- 14:50Speaker 2: a way, But yet they were stupid because they got caught.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So on September twenty first, nineteen one, in San Antonio, Texas,
- 15:03Speaker 2: tellers Lisa Silvis, aged nineteen, and Kelly McGinnis, age twenty one,
- 15:09Speaker 2: not the Kelly from Maverick or Top Gun, but they
- 15:14Speaker 2: were trusting employees of the Texas Commerce Bank and they
- 15:17Speaker 2: were the only two working the bank on that Saturday
- 15:22Speaker 2: from nine to one. Guys, this is a nineteen year
- 15:25Speaker 2: old and a twenty one year old. They were in
- 15:28Speaker 2: charge of the whole bank. I don't know, but I've
- 15:32Speaker 2: never been trusted.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That burts.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I found that very interesting. The two showed up for
- 15:41Speaker 2: work as usual. Kelly unlocked the first door and then
- 15:46Speaker 2: she walked in and Lisa was behind her. They were
- 15:49Speaker 2: walking down the hall towards that next door that you
- 15:52Speaker 2: have to go through to turn the alarm off, and
- 15:54Speaker 2: Lisa turned to say something, or Kelly turned to say
- 15:57Speaker 2: something to Lisa, and Lisa was not alone. There was
- 16:02Speaker 2: a guy standing behind her wearing a rubber Halloween mask,
- 16:07Speaker 2: wearing overalls and was holding a pistol and had on gloves,
- 16:12Speaker 2: and he ordered her to turn off the alarm or
- 16:15Speaker 2: he would kill them. So the robber aimed his gun
- 16:19Speaker 2: at Kelly's head, and with both of the tellers shaking
- 16:22Speaker 2: and crying, they went to the alarm and they opened
- 16:26Speaker 2: the door, and Kelly was shaking so bad that she
- 16:31Speaker 2: could not do it. Lisa knew that if they didn't
- 16:34Speaker 2: do it soon, an alarm was going to go off.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I hope.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I don't know if y'all can hear all those dogs?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Can you hear that? No, it's my five dogs that
- 16:45Speaker 2: now they're howling. I apologize. Kelly was too shaken up
- 16:49Speaker 2: to turn the alarm off, so Lisa took the keys
- 16:52Speaker 2: and she turned the alarm off because she was worried
- 16:55Speaker 2: this guy in this mask was going to kill them.
- 16:58Speaker 2: They said it was a Halloween mask, didn't say if
- 17:01Speaker 2: it was a President's mask. I kind of hope it
- 17:04Speaker 2: was since they said he watched Point Break.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that checks out. I think. So there's
- 17:11Speaker 1: a piecing that was hoping it was a will Shattner mask,
- 17:13Speaker 1: But then that's where they got Michael Myers mask from,
- 17:16Speaker 1: so it's not that. Did you know that? Did you
- 17:19Speaker 1: know Mike Myers mask was originally a William Shatner mask.
- 17:21Speaker 2: William Shatner mask. Guess after the alarm was turned off,
- 17:25Speaker 2: the robbers secured Kelly's hands with zip ties, and then
- 17:29Speaker 2: with his gun, he had Lisa take him to the vault.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Inside the vault was multiple safes. Now he told them
- 17:37Speaker 2: that he had a police scanner in his pocket and
- 17:40Speaker 2: if he heard anything about a silent alarm being tripped,
- 17:43Speaker 2: he was going to kill them both immediately. The safs
- 17:47Speaker 2: inside the vault had a double luck setup, so Lisa
- 17:52Speaker 2: used the key to unlock the first log. Kelly, whose
- 17:55Speaker 2: hands were tied, called out the combination to her and
- 17:58Speaker 2: the mask man and unlocked the second log. And then
- 18:02Speaker 2: Lisa was given a large trash bag and told to
- 18:05Speaker 2: fill it with all of the cash. And then the
- 18:07Speaker 2: robber took them over to their cash strawers and told
- 18:10Speaker 2: them to empty their drawers into the bag as well.
- 18:13Speaker 2: After he emptied the vault and the cash strawers, he
- 18:16Speaker 2: ordered both of them to stay in the vault and
- 18:19Speaker 2: he left. He literally got out of there in less
- 18:24Speaker 2: than five minutes, and he escaped with almost two hundred
- 18:30Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Did he lock them in the vault or did he
- 18:33Speaker 1: just have them sit here?
- 18:34Speaker 2: He did not, but he told them if they came out,
- 18:37Speaker 2: he would shoot them. So they waited a couple of
- 18:39Speaker 2: minutes to make sure that he left, and then one
- 18:43Speaker 2: of them hit the alarm. Kelly hit the alarm and
- 18:47Speaker 2: then was calling their supervisor after hitting the alarm, while
- 18:49Speaker 2: Lisa called nine one one cause they were shook up.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean nineteen and twenty one and this is like
- 18:57Speaker 2: nine o'clock in the morning on a Saturday. And guys,
- 19:00Speaker 2: it was a motor bank branch, so him coming in
- 19:04Speaker 2: behind them, that was the only way to get into
- 19:07Speaker 2: that bank building was to come in through that door.
- 19:11Speaker 2: After the cops got there, the cops let them call
- 19:14Speaker 2: their boyfriends. Kelly was able to reach her boyfriend. Lisa
- 19:17Speaker 2: unfortunately could not reach her fiance, Jack, who was a
- 19:22Speaker 2: second year police officer with the San Antonio Police and
- 19:26Speaker 2: had worked the night shift the night before. He turns
- 19:28Speaker 2: his phone off and he goes home and goes to bed.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I mean makes I get it. She tried to page him,
- 19:34Speaker 2: but he didn't answer his pager, but he did call
- 19:38Speaker 2: back sometime later to the branch and heard what happened,
- 19:41Speaker 2: and being a police officer, he didn't immediately go to
- 19:44Speaker 2: the crime scene because he was like they don't need
- 19:47Speaker 2: another cop who's off duty getting in the way. But
- 19:50Speaker 2: he did eventually show up. Kelly's boyfriend, who had dropped
- 19:54Speaker 2: her off, immediately turned around and went right back to
- 19:57Speaker 2: the bank. He was like, I don't care, I'm gonna
- 19:59Speaker 2: go be with my girl now. When Jack got there,
- 20:02Speaker 2: he did identify himself to the agents and officers outside
- 20:07Speaker 2: that he was an off duty San Antonio police officer.
- 20:10Speaker 2: He also had been in the Marines, so he was
- 20:13Speaker 2: like a really good guy, been in the Marines police officer.
- 20:17Speaker 2: This is what was interesting to me. The bank executives
- 20:21Speaker 2: and bank managers, they were happy to see Jack because
- 20:25Speaker 2: he was such a good guy who's highly decorated Marine
- 20:28Speaker 2: and a respected San Antonio officer. While they're on the scene,
- 20:32Speaker 2: one of the executives said, Hey, when you're off shift,
- 20:35Speaker 2: would you come to security for us because all of
- 20:38Speaker 2: our employees are going to be scared shitless after this,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and he said, yep, I can start next week, which
- 20:45Speaker 2: I was like, you know, that's cool, because here's something
- 20:49Speaker 2: that's interesting. This bank did not have security cameras nowhere
- 20:54Speaker 2: because it was a motor bank. They didn't have people
- 20:57Speaker 2: coming in and out except for the employees, so they
- 21:00Speaker 2: didn't think they needed them, and I'm like.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So that, I mean, like, I get that, but at
- 21:06Speaker 1: the same time, you really need to be looking out
- 21:08Speaker 1: for the safety of your employees. You have a ton
- 21:10Speaker 1: of money in one central location if you want to
- 21:13Speaker 1: even look like you care about your employees.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I don't know, because they could have driven up in
- 21:17Speaker 2: a car and pointed again at me, and I would
- 21:19Speaker 2: have shoved all the money in the drawer and given
- 21:20Speaker 2: in to them, because money is not worth it. My
- 21:23Speaker 2: life is a little bit more important. They got away.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He got away with almost two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Here's the other crazy thing. The bank didn't use die packs,
- 21:33Speaker 2: so there was no die packs for the teller to
- 21:37Speaker 2: throw in with the money as she put it inside
- 21:39Speaker 2: the trash backs.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They didn't choose not to because they were so scared they.
- 21:43Speaker 2: They didn't have any on site.
- 21:46Speaker 1: That's insane.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I mean, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. As everybody knows,
- 21:52Speaker 2: when you have a bankroppt, FBI gets involved immediately, right
- 21:57Speaker 2: So Federal investigator showed up as as officers. They were
- 22:02Speaker 2: stumped as to how the bankrupper knew exactly when the
- 22:05Speaker 2: tellers would arrive. Okay, guys, first thing, if the bank
- 22:10Speaker 2: opens from nine to one, couldn't you just park outside
- 22:14Speaker 2: and know they're going to arrive between eight thirty.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Like watching it for like two times to figure that out.
- 22:22Speaker 2: They also said that they found it interesting that the
- 22:26Speaker 2: bankropper knew the layout of the bank by knowing that
- 22:30Speaker 2: there was two doors. I don't know if I buy that,
- 22:34Speaker 2: because you know that there's going to be a second door,
- 22:37Speaker 2: there's not just one door.
- 22:39Speaker 1: It's not Pan's labyrinth, Like, it's not that hard to
- 22:42Speaker 1: figure out.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, they said that he also knew which safe held
- 22:47Speaker 2: dollar bills and not coins. But in one article I read,
- 22:52Speaker 2: it said that one of the tellers said which safe
- 22:57Speaker 2: had the cash in it instead of So I don't
- 23:01Speaker 2: know if that says anything easier either, but hey, but
- 23:05Speaker 2: Kelly and Lisa were both former high school cheerleaders. They
- 23:08Speaker 2: were both cute, bubbly, adorable, and they were love by
- 23:13Speaker 2: the customers and the management of the bank. In fact,
- 23:17Speaker 2: one article talked about some of the old men would
- 23:20Speaker 2: come on the days that the young girls worked because
- 23:23Speaker 2: they wanted to see the pretty ladies when they made
- 23:25Speaker 2: their deposits.
- 23:29Speaker 1: That's that's how my grandfather Jose's news shows.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I was like, all part of me was like, oh,
- 23:38Speaker 2: that's cute, and then the other part of me was like, Okay,
- 23:40Speaker 2: that's just rude.
- 23:42Speaker 1: But at first I was like, oh, all of me
- 23:46Speaker 1: was like yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I was like, okay, a little creepy. Lisa and Kelly
- 23:52Speaker 2: were both hysterical when talking to the police after the robbery.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I totally could see that I would have they would
- 23:59Speaker 2: have had to give me a steve. Somebody holds a
- 24:01Speaker 2: gun to my head, They're gonna need to give me
- 24:02Speaker 2: a sedative. Something that police thought was weird was that
- 24:07Speaker 2: when they asked each of the girls, you know, to
- 24:10Speaker 2: try to give a description height, weight and stuff like that. Well,
- 24:14Speaker 2: Jack was standing next Tolisa, and she looked at his
- 24:17Speaker 2: head and she goes, oh, about that high, she goes,
- 24:21Speaker 2: and probably about the same size, and she was hysterical.
- 24:25Speaker 2: But then she kind of giggled and she said, oh
- 24:27Speaker 2: my god, Jack, he's the same size just like you.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And the police thought that was odd. But I, guys,
- 24:35Speaker 2: I often describe people by people I know. I'll be like, oh,
- 24:39Speaker 2: he's about the same height and size as double h
- 24:43Speaker 2: or hey. She reminds me of Heather Locklear about the
- 24:47Speaker 2: same size blonde hair. I didn't find that weird, so
- 24:50Speaker 2: I don't know if anybody else does, because I think
- 24:53Speaker 2: it's pretty common. But I'm sure as a police officer,
- 24:56Speaker 2: he was going, uh, thank you, I guess.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Now.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Immediately after the robbery, the officers in FBI agent search
- 25:08Speaker 2: the surrounding area, looking in trash cans behind bushes. They
- 25:11Speaker 2: wanted to see if he had thrown that mask out
- 25:14Speaker 2: or if they had tossed the money to come back
- 25:17Speaker 2: later and get it. They found nothing at all. Now, police,
- 25:23Speaker 2: did you know? Initially they were like, you know, we
- 25:26Speaker 2: think this might have been an inside job. Only somebody
- 25:29Speaker 2: who worked here knew somebody inside could have done this.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So they became a little suspicious of the tellers. But
- 25:36Speaker 2: they talked to them because, I mean, they were hysterical.
- 25:40Speaker 2: They were both crying, they were both upset. Now, Lisa Sylvis,
- 25:45Speaker 2: who was nineteen at the time, she had met police
- 25:47Speaker 2: officer Jack Neely in September of ninety when he responded
- 25:52Speaker 2: to a domestic disturbance call between her and her boyfriend
- 25:55Speaker 2: at the time. It is said that Jack became smitten
- 25:57Speaker 2: with her during this call. Over the next several weeks,
- 26:01Speaker 2: he wooed her, took her gifts, left her messages, helped
- 26:06Speaker 2: her get away from the boyfriend from the domestic violence call.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And I mean she was nineteen, she had stars in
- 26:12Speaker 2: her eyes. She was only making Twitter and fifty dollars
- 26:14Speaker 2: a week and that just wouldn't pay for a lifestyle. Now,
- 26:18Speaker 2: Jack was twenty eight and she was nineteen, so a
- 26:21Speaker 2: little bit of an age different. Lisa liked to go
- 26:24Speaker 2: shopping and pamper herself, and she dreamed of something better.
- 26:28Speaker 2: And she was impressed by the older Jack. He was
- 26:31Speaker 2: good looking, he was a decorated marine ex marine, and
- 26:36Speaker 2: he was an up and coming, you know, police officer.
- 26:39Speaker 2: By December that same year, they moved in together. It
- 26:43Speaker 2: was love at first site. I guess I thought that
- 26:49Speaker 2: there was like some rule for police officers that you
- 26:53Speaker 2: can't use crime scenes as a pickup site. But apparently
- 27:00Speaker 2: not right.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's like why not question people
- 27:05Speaker 1: and also do speed dating? What did he look? I
- 27:08Speaker 1: guess what time did he come in? What's your sign?
- 27:12Speaker 1: What's your favorite food?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:14Speaker 1: It all is won the same.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Jack had gotten divorced and had a child. Okay,
- 27:21Speaker 2: so he has a friend that police talk to and
- 27:26Speaker 2: that a reporter talked to. Did say, you know, Jack
- 27:28Speaker 2: had been very sad down on the dumps. So when
- 27:31Speaker 2: he met Lisa, she was young, beautiful. I mean, she
- 27:35Speaker 2: made him feel invigorated again, you know, made him feel like, oh,
- 27:39Speaker 2: somebody young and hot wants me kind of thing energy
- 27:43Speaker 2: for both of them, I guess, I guess. Now. While
- 27:48Speaker 2: talking to Lisa and Jack, they found that he would
- 27:52Speaker 2: call the banks several times a day while she worked,
- 27:57Speaker 2: and he would drive by the bank to make sure
- 27:59Speaker 2: she was at work, and while he was on patrol. Guys,
- 28:03Speaker 2: this just gave me the ick. He would pull over
- 28:06Speaker 2: her ex boyfriend for any traffic violation he could find,
- 28:11Speaker 2: and daring the traffic stop would tell him to stay
- 28:14Speaker 2: away from Lisa, and I say he was a little certain,
- 28:20Speaker 2: yeah right now. He loved Lisa and Lisa like nice things.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Problem was, he had gotten divorced. He had to pay
- 28:29Speaker 2: his ex wife alimony and child support, which did not
- 28:33Speaker 2: leave him a lot of extra cash to spoil Lisa. Guys,
- 28:36Speaker 2: this made the investigators go bing bing bing. Let's look
- 28:41Speaker 2: into Jack and Lisa a little deeper now. Lisa and
- 28:45Speaker 2: Jack had gotten engaged about four months before the robbery.
- 28:50Speaker 2: But interesting enough, instead of the wedding they were planning,
- 28:54Speaker 2: they decided to get married at the courthouse nine days
- 28:57Speaker 2: before the robbery, and Jack told the investigator that they
- 29:00Speaker 2: decided to go ahead and get married instead of waiting
- 29:03Speaker 2: so that Lisa could have his benefits. Right, But investigators,
- 29:08Speaker 2: investigators thought that maybe it was because he wanted spousal immunity,
- 29:15Speaker 2: you know. But they're just they're just looking for things, right,
- 29:18Speaker 2: because they've got no evidence that they had anything to
- 29:23Speaker 2: do with this. But I mean, so they were suspicious.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I mean I could see that too. Kelly and her
- 29:29Speaker 2: boyfriend had been together. They you know, didn't have any
- 29:34Speaker 2: finance problems, lived within their means, so they weren't as
- 29:37Speaker 2: suspicious of them. Several weeks after the bank robbery, Jack
- 29:43Speaker 2: and Lisa, remember they had just gotten married nine days before,
- 29:45Speaker 2: they decided to go ahead, get away and take a honeymoon.
- 29:51Speaker 2: They told friends they were going to go to Florida, Guys.
- 29:54Speaker 2: It was later discovered they actually went to the Grand
- 29:57Speaker 2: Cayman Islands.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Of course, it did.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I think we all know why people go there because
- 30:03Speaker 2: they have banking laws and they do not give out
- 30:09Speaker 2: the names of who owns bank accounts, right, But they
- 30:12Speaker 2: had no proof they ever went to a bank. They
- 30:15Speaker 2: have no proof that they did that. I don't know
- 30:18Speaker 2: why they lied to people who knows. But the police
- 30:21Speaker 2: could not prove that the couple actually went there to
- 30:25Speaker 2: hide money, and they didn't have any evidence that they
- 30:27Speaker 2: were involved whatsoever. Okay, so they had to keep looking
- 30:33Speaker 2: at suspects and try to figure out who did this
- 30:37Speaker 2: because they had no clue, no hints. Well, they went
- 30:42Speaker 2: to go and talk to Jack's mom and stepdad and
- 30:46Speaker 2: nothing came to light. During the visit. They were like, okay,
- 30:51Speaker 2: this I mean Jack was at home and sleep he
- 30:53Speaker 2: They confirmed he had worked the night before. There was nothing. However,
- 31:00Speaker 2: just days after the investigators had visited the parents, the
- 31:05Speaker 2: stepdad was out walking around on their farm and he
- 31:08Speaker 2: saw an area that had been dug up and something buried. So,
- 31:14Speaker 2: being that person who's like, what the heck's going on,
- 31:17Speaker 2: he got a shovel and started digging.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Was it trash bag of money sized?
- 31:23Speaker 2: It was not? Oh no, it was a blue canvas
- 31:26Speaker 2: bag full of money. So they had put it in
- 31:29Speaker 2: a canvas. So, knowing that the police had just been
- 31:33Speaker 2: there and that Jack was either engaged or married to
- 31:38Speaker 2: one of the tellers, he called police to report it. Well,
- 31:43Speaker 2: guess what, folks, The Texas Commerce Bank did not use
- 31:46Speaker 2: diet PAGs, but they did use what is called bait money.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I found this so interesting. Bait money is bills with
- 31:55Speaker 2: serial numbers that have been recorded and put into a
- 31:58Speaker 2: system and used to track stolen money. Now, the branch
- 32:03Speaker 2: had ten of these bait moneies in each of the
- 32:06Speaker 2: teller's drawers in twenty in the vault. Well, when police
- 32:11Speaker 2: checked the serial numbers, guess what they were inside the
- 32:15Speaker 2: blue bag of money that Bill had found on this property.
- 32:19Speaker 2: The other interesting thing, the bait bills were separated from
- 32:25Speaker 2: all the other money and were rolled up with a
- 32:27Speaker 2: rubber band and a note that said Mexico Money in
- 32:32Speaker 2: Lisa's handwriting, and the police speculated they were labeled for
- 32:40Speaker 2: Mexico because using them in Mexico, they don't check serial
- 32:46Speaker 2: numbers of American one hundred dollars bills like we do
- 32:50Speaker 2: in America. So also at the bottom of that blue
- 32:55Speaker 2: canvas bag was a souvenir keychain that Lisa had had
- 33:00Speaker 2: picked up just a little bit before at her high
- 33:05Speaker 2: school reunion. They did a one year reunion and she
- 33:09Speaker 2: kept year one year.
- 33:12Speaker 1: One year reunion.
- 33:14Speaker 2: They wanted to get back together, so in October of
- 33:17Speaker 2: nineteen ninety one, Jack and Lisa were arrested. All but
- 33:21Speaker 2: ninety five thousand dollars were recovered. They didn't go to
- 33:25Speaker 2: the Cayman Islands to put that money, because why would
- 33:30Speaker 2: you only do ninety five thousand?
- 33:34Speaker 1: Right?
- 33:36Speaker 2: So they pled not guilty, but they were both held
- 33:40Speaker 2: without bond. They were both convicted. Lisa was sentenced to
- 33:45Speaker 2: thirteen years and Jack was sentenced to fifteen years. I
- 33:50Speaker 2: didn't think that was very long. I didn't. I was
- 33:56Speaker 2: unable to find where Lisa is today, and I will
- 33:59Speaker 2: tell y'all, I went down some rabbit holes. I could
- 34:02Speaker 2: not find her, but I was able to find Jack
- 34:06Speaker 2: and where Jack is and what Jack's been doing. Jack
- 34:09Speaker 2: did not learn his lesson.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Uh yep.
- 34:14Speaker 2: In twenty twelve, Jack was arrested for being a felon
- 34:19Speaker 2: in possession of a gun and impersonating a government agent.
- 34:25Speaker 1: You know, leave it up to a name like Jack
- 34:28Speaker 1: or Joe or Ethan. They never learned their lesson. These
- 34:32Speaker 1: guys now don't learned their lesson.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he was twenty eight and when he went to prison,
- 34:39Speaker 2: he served all of his time, got out, did this
- 34:43Speaker 2: stupid thing. All of the articles say he was acting
- 34:45Speaker 2: as a big shot, so he was taking people around.
- 34:48Speaker 2: He was arrested outside of a big old country club,
- 34:52Speaker 2: you know, dance place, was basically acting like he was
- 34:56Speaker 2: some important government guy. It was carrying a gun. Okay.
- 35:02Speaker 2: He was sentenced to forty one months in federal prison
- 35:06Speaker 2: and then had to be on three years federal supervision
- 35:09Speaker 2: after his release. He is not deceased, but he's either
- 35:14Speaker 2: staying out of trouble or he hasn't gotten caught again,
- 35:16Speaker 2: because I could not find any updates. He is not
- 35:21Speaker 2: in prison anymore, so he's been released, but there is
- 35:24Speaker 2: nothing about him since I'm guessing he hasn't been.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Caught nah moving.
- 35:30Speaker 2: He and Lisa are not together. Not together. She did
- 35:36Speaker 2: give an interview later saying that Jack did it. She
- 35:40Speaker 2: didn't know it was him at the time because he
- 35:44Speaker 2: had a mask on, but it was her handwriting. They
- 35:49Speaker 2: did an analysis. It was her handwriting that wrote Mexico Money.
- 35:53Speaker 2: So whether she knew at the time, the other thing
- 35:58Speaker 2: he put police issued zip ties on Kelly, put the
- 36:03Speaker 2: gun to her head, never put it to Lisa's head.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Lisa was never restrained. And Lisa's the one who walked
- 36:11Speaker 2: him around to everything. So I don't know what kool
- 36:14Speaker 2: aid she's drinking, but nobody bought it. So that is
- 36:20Speaker 2: my case about the almost greatest bank robbery.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Well, you know, I love the fact. I love the
- 36:29Speaker 1: fact that both of our cases didn't involve people dying.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I know, because that is so rare for us. Yes,
- 36:37Speaker 2: for us, nothing dark.
- 36:41Speaker 1: All right. So not only did both of ours not
- 36:44Speaker 1: include death, but they're both in the nineties. What a
- 36:47Speaker 1: decade for robberies. Huh?
- 36:49Speaker 2: What is it I'm an eighties baby driving a nineties Mercedes?
- 36:54Speaker 2: Or is it I'm a nineties baby driving an eighties Mercedes.
- 36:58Speaker 1: There's a song that way that makes more sense. Okay,
- 37:03Speaker 1: I think it'd be weird if you were an eighties
- 37:05Speaker 1: baby driving a nineties car. Well, no, not if it's
- 37:09Speaker 1: like that, I don't know if.
- 37:12Speaker 2: It's because you're a nineties baby, right.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Uh. No, I'm a late eighties, eighty.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Seven late I am going to If anybody knows what
- 37:21Speaker 2: song that is, I only know it because I know
- 37:25Speaker 2: my my son was born in the nineties. In his
- 37:31Speaker 2: first car was a Mercedes that he bought on his own.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I did not purchase it for him, but it was
- 37:37Speaker 2: like an old eighties Mercedes. But I did not buy.
- 37:41Speaker 1: My first car was a nineteen ninety eight Toyota Camry hmm.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I had a Toyota Silica MM with little louvers.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I don't know on the window. I wrote this first
- 37:56Speaker 1: sentence and I didn't think about what it was, what
- 38:00Speaker 1: it implied. But I'm gonna say it any anyways, because
- 38:03Speaker 1: I've already committed to it. We all like easy things.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Some of them are expensive, some of them are thirty
- 38:13Speaker 1: five cents. We've kind of been conditioned to enjoy the easy.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And you know, I don't really know why I'm starting
- 38:20Speaker 1: the case like this, because the robbery is a hell
- 38:21Speaker 1: of a thing to set up, harry out, and get
- 38:23Speaker 1: away with. And while the payday's immense, the question is
- 38:26Speaker 1: is it worth it? Once you have all that money,
- 38:27Speaker 1: what do you do with it? Q Brewster's millions, Right,
- 38:30Speaker 1: It's like I have to get rid of it. I've
- 38:32Speaker 1: got to use it. You can't attract attention. We're going
- 38:35Speaker 1: back to nineteen ninety seven. I think that's twenty seven years.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't math. We know this. I
- 38:42Speaker 1: don't math. I don't gas math, I don't timeline math.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I I don't math. I guess twenty seven. I did
- 38:47Speaker 1: it in my head. If it's wrong, oh well, I
- 38:50Speaker 1: don't like the fact that it was twenty seven years ago.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I can say that much right now. But it Let's
- 38:56Speaker 1: add context to the case, because sometimes, like when I
- 38:59Speaker 1: get like not sure order cases, but more like to
- 39:01Speaker 1: the point cases, I like that a little bit of
- 39:03Speaker 1: something in there, just to get a little more. Let's
- 39:05Speaker 1: talk about what was going on in ninety seven in
- 39:07Speaker 1: the US. So the president's Bill Clinton. I'm nice guy.
- 39:12Speaker 1: That's my best Bill Clinton. Actually he was a nice
- 39:15Speaker 1: guy both times that I hung out. In terms of costs,
- 39:20Speaker 1: the average home was one hundred and forty six thousand dollars,
- 39:24Speaker 1: median household income was between seven twenty seven and thirty seven,
- 39:27Speaker 1: thousand gallon of regular gas was a buck sixty six,
- 39:32Speaker 1: and the cost of a new car was sixteen to nine.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Is just wild. Not much has changed about the median
- 39:40Speaker 1: house income really just everything else that's gone.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Let's say, gas is insane right now.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Although if you do the if you do the breakdown
- 39:50Speaker 1: of the the cost versus income and cost versus income,
- 39:54Speaker 1: now it's actually worse than than it is now. That
- 39:58Speaker 1: doesn't make me feel any better, That doesn't me in
- 40:00Speaker 1: any less money out of up bucket. I'll just say it, okay.
- 40:03Speaker 1: So events in February February fifth, Santa Monica jury finds
- 40:07Speaker 1: former foot You know what, we forgot to mention this,
- 40:10Speaker 1: but this happened in nineteen ninety seven of Santa Monica.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Jury finds former football legend O J. Simpson liable for
- 40:16Speaker 1: the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.
- 40:19Speaker 2: That's right, yes, and he recently went to hell.
- 40:26Speaker 1: February twenty eighth, ninety seven North Hollywood shootout with two
- 40:29Speaker 1: heavily armed bank robbers. March ninth, notorious pigs killed in
- 40:33Speaker 1: the drive by shooting. March twenty sixth is when Heaven's
- 40:36Speaker 1: Gate cultists commit my suicide. June second is Timothy mcveigh's
- 40:42Speaker 1: convicted on fifteen counts of murder and then just a
- 40:46Speaker 1: week or two later he sentenced to death. June twenty eighth,
- 40:50Speaker 1: Mike Tyson bites Evander Holyfield's ear and takes a piece off,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and now he is promoting his weed gummies that are
- 40:57Speaker 1: shaped like an ears. The world's a weird place now. Yeah,
- 41:02Speaker 1: he's made weed gummies and they're shaped like ears. That's
- 41:06Speaker 1: just weird. Uh huh. August thirteenth of South Park airs
- 41:12Speaker 1: its first episode December nineteenth. Titanic promiears in nineteen ninety seven. Yeah,
- 41:19Speaker 1: in terms of you know, that's just some of the
- 41:22Speaker 1: ninety seven stuff that I could tell you about. There
- 41:24Speaker 1: was a lot going on. I never really understood the
- 41:27Speaker 1: concept of quote back to the good old days. I
- 41:29Speaker 1: think what people really mean is they want to go
- 41:31Speaker 1: back to when they didn't know what was going on
- 41:32Speaker 1: around them.
- 41:33Speaker 2: No, I'm going to tell you, ninety seven was a
- 41:36Speaker 2: really good year for me. I got divorced from the
- 41:39Speaker 2: first POS in ninety six, so ninety seven was fabulous.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I was a single mom of two boys, and I
- 41:48Speaker 2: did not have to put up with the controlling pos anymore.
- 41:53Speaker 2: So ninety seven was a really good year.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Hey, yo, was it that one? Dude? Never mind? So,
- 42:03Speaker 1: but like overall, you know, what people really mean is overall,
- 42:07Speaker 1: I think they want to go back to when they
- 42:08Speaker 1: didn't know what was going on around them when things
- 42:10Speaker 1: were quote simple, But they weren't simple because they were simple.
- 42:13Speaker 1: They were simple because we were young enough to be
- 42:15Speaker 1: able to ignore it and not be informed. And it
- 42:17Speaker 1: was okay. Things were just as crappy back then as
- 42:20Speaker 1: they are now. September twelfth, nineteen ninety seven. Six people
- 42:25Speaker 1: are involved and it was at a dunbar armored facility
- 42:29Speaker 1: on Mateo Street in downtown La California. That's right, I said,
- 42:32Speaker 1: dunbar armored facility, not a car, not a bank, the
- 42:39Speaker 1: dunbar facility itself. There were a few people. Only a
- 42:44Speaker 1: few names get thrown around during the case, but I'll
- 42:46Speaker 1: name them. Alan Pace the third of Compton with childhood friends,
- 42:51Speaker 1: Eric Damon Boyd of buenap Park, Eugene Lamar Hill junior
- 42:56Speaker 1: of Bellflower, Freddie Lynn McCrary junior of Arletta, Marry Wayne
- 43:00Speaker 1: Brown senior of La and Thomas Lee Johnson of Las Vegas.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I am going to leave out out how much they took,
- 43:10Speaker 1: but what a set of fact. It took literal years
- 43:13Speaker 1: to crack this case. They left no evidence, They were
- 43:15Speaker 1: in and out in thirty minutes. And my question, you
- 43:20Speaker 1: know as I was reading the beginning of this is
- 43:22Speaker 1: how the hell could that possibly happen? How would they
- 43:25Speaker 1: even know how this place was laid out? Let's carry
- 43:28Speaker 1: out there right? Police suspect suspected it was an inside job.
- 43:33Speaker 1: All current informer suspects were considered. All current and former
- 43:36Speaker 1: employees were considered suspects. While being question a name came
- 43:39Speaker 1: up over and over and over again. Alan Pace Pace
- 43:43Speaker 1: was a former security employee of Dunbar and the depot
- 43:46Speaker 1: where the robbery took place. And I mean recently former employee,
- 43:51Speaker 1: and I'll explain that in a second. He worked at
- 43:53Speaker 1: the facility for a grand total of a year and
- 43:55Speaker 1: a half. Not only that, but he was the safety
- 43:57Speaker 1: director for the company. When he was described, they said
- 44:01Speaker 1: he was a normal guy. He had no criminal record.
- 44:04Speaker 1: From what I found, he grew up middle class in Compton.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Something that Alan used to do at his job was
- 44:12Speaker 1: prank people. A lot of folks really enjoyed this, even
- 44:15Speaker 1: if they were the ones being pranked. He seemed like
- 44:18Speaker 1: a down to earth kind of guy that I probably
- 44:20Speaker 1: would hang out with, honestly, but he didn't have any
- 44:23Speaker 1: like qualities that would leave people to believe he would
- 44:25Speaker 1: be capable of something like this, but that's kind of
- 44:29Speaker 1: the perfect setup. Pace knew that if he was going
- 44:33Speaker 1: to do this, he was gonna need a little help.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Where else can you get a little bit of help,
- 44:37Speaker 1: but from your friends. If it's good enough for the Beatles,
- 44:39Speaker 1: it's good enough for Alan Pace the third. So he
- 44:43Speaker 1: decided to go to friends. He could trust. These people.
- 44:45Speaker 1: None of them had police records. Most of them spent
- 44:47Speaker 1: nights doing bouncer jobs and night clubs around La so
- 44:50Speaker 1: there was a reason for them to be around before
- 44:53Speaker 1: the robbery. Excuse me, before the robbery, they sat down
- 44:56Speaker 1: had a serious meeting. They promised something to each other,
- 44:59Speaker 1: a pact. They said that if anyone's arrested, they would
- 45:02Speaker 1: take the fall for everything and not implicate the others.
- 45:04Speaker 1: And Pace was the leader of all this. Of course,
- 45:07Speaker 1: it's all well and good to talk about it. You
- 45:10Speaker 1: agree on it, shake on it, bleed for it. But
- 45:12Speaker 1: what happens when the lights in your face and what
- 45:13Speaker 1: happens when your back is against the wall, right, we'll
- 45:16Speaker 1: find out. So this robbery was set right, This robbery
- 45:20Speaker 1: was set to be a one time event. This would
- 45:23Speaker 1: have them set for a while. Of course, you know,
- 45:27Speaker 1: without the knowledge of how high the cost of living
- 45:29Speaker 1: was going to be and income was going to stay.
- 45:31Speaker 1: How was at the time, it was wrong all around.
- 45:34Speaker 1: It didn't matter. This was the goal. Alan was able
- 45:37Speaker 1: to provide them with a diagram of the facility. While
- 45:39Speaker 1: he was working there, he did his homework, did not
- 45:41Speaker 1: waste the time. He took pictures from the outside and
- 45:44Speaker 1: the inside, not only of the locations, but of the
- 45:47Speaker 1: video cameras in the hallways. He wanted his team to
- 45:49Speaker 1: be able to visualize everything. He took photos of security guards,
- 45:54Speaker 1: so you know, he did the research and now it
- 45:56Speaker 1: was time to write the plan. He put down the
- 45:59Speaker 1: steps they have to take, how many how to avoid
- 46:02Speaker 1: the cameras, how to take down the armed guards, gain
- 46:05Speaker 1: control of the security command post, enter the vault, low
- 46:07Speaker 1: the cash and leave. Not only that, but he planned
- 46:10Speaker 1: to take all do all of this in less than
- 46:13Speaker 1: thirty minutes. Now they knew all of the entrances and
- 46:17Speaker 1: exits by driving by a few times. Imagine that they
- 46:20Speaker 1: knew just by driving around a few times. The cops
- 46:21Speaker 1: were confused in Texas as to how they knew they
- 46:23Speaker 1: were too exactly, but when they drove they chose to
- 46:29Speaker 1: drive by weeks ahead of the robbery, so they didn't
- 46:31Speaker 1: do it anywhere near when they were actually going to
- 46:34Speaker 1: do it, which is really smart. So all this time
- 46:37Speaker 1: Pace is still working at the facility. No one suspected
- 46:42Speaker 1: a damn thing, but his fate might have it. On
- 46:45Speaker 1: the day of September twelfth, he got a call that
- 46:48Speaker 1: he was not expecting he was being fired because of
- 46:52Speaker 1: the pranks he was pulling. When they finish up the call,
- 46:55Speaker 1: the last thing that they said to him, and it
- 46:57Speaker 1: was basically, they asked him to turn into keys the
- 46:59Speaker 1: next day. Now you can bet they regretted not asking
- 47:04Speaker 1: him to bring them in immediately. Why because Pace knew
- 47:09Speaker 1: what he had to do now. He called everybody up
- 47:11Speaker 1: and said, we're doing this tonight. The timeline had moved up.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Pace gave everyone their instructions and then gathered together. They
- 47:18Speaker 1: didn't gather at any one house. They met up at
- 47:21Speaker 1: a house party in Long Beach. With this they established
- 47:24Speaker 1: their alibis. They hung around for a few hours, left
- 47:28Speaker 1: quietly changed into outfits masks because you know, what's a robbery,
- 47:33Speaker 1: But what's a robbery but Kabooki theater that actually makes
- 47:36Speaker 1: somebody the money. That's pretty much what it is. Yes,
- 47:40Speaker 1: Banana in the Banana in the.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Tail podcasts from with Eddie Murphy.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yes, it also sounds like a really bad Friday night.
- 47:52Speaker 2: If you like in your tail butt.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Fair fair. So they drove the They entered through the
- 48:01Speaker 1: side door right after midnight. Eugene Hill was asked to
- 48:04Speaker 1: rent a U haul truck. This is what they would
- 48:06Speaker 1: use as their transportation. So they entered through the building.
- 48:11Speaker 1: They found and found that not being seen was was
- 48:15Speaker 1: their first hurdles. That's the thing. You don't want to
- 48:17Speaker 1: get caught before you need to make a move. But
- 48:21Speaker 1: it's almost like Pace like took like a metal bandsaw
- 48:25Speaker 1: and just cut the hurdle down to where they could
- 48:27Speaker 1: just step over it. Because while he was working there,
- 48:32Speaker 1: he conned a fellow employee. It was a couple of things.
- 48:35Speaker 1: He conned. A fellow employee owned a truck that had
- 48:37Speaker 1: a television monitor. The truck was always in the same spot,
- 48:39Speaker 1: so they used that. They hugged the wall when they
- 48:42Speaker 1: came in, and he did a couple of other things
- 48:44Speaker 1: too before he left. Now Pace again was supposed to
- 48:48Speaker 1: return his keys the next day. He used that key
- 48:51Speaker 1: to get inside. On top of that, they had codes.
- 48:55Speaker 1: They never addressed each other by name, only by numbers,
- 48:57Speaker 1: so they each had a number and that's that's what
- 49:00Speaker 1: they went with, which is really really smart.
- 49:02Speaker 2: So that's pretty smart.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Yeah. So the security cameras in that facility pan right,
- 49:10Speaker 1: pan left, and right, and so pace actually timed out
- 49:13Speaker 1: the intervals of the panic, and they walked by undetected,
- 49:17Speaker 1: taking turns as they crossed over in the hallway when
- 49:20Speaker 1: the cameras were not panned towards them. The one thing
- 49:23Speaker 1: they didn't have was a key to the vault. But
- 49:25Speaker 1: as co workers did not only that, but they planned
- 49:28Speaker 1: their robbery around the time in which they took their
- 49:31Speaker 1: lunch breaks. They usually left the vault open during this
- 49:34Speaker 1: time because of the deposits that were coming in. When
- 49:38Speaker 1: the employee's lunch break began, they tied they were in
- 49:43Speaker 1: there waiting for them. They tied them up with duct tape,
- 49:45Speaker 1: and they took their key to the vault prep room.
- 49:49Speaker 1: The prep room had a camera that they couldn't avoid,
- 49:52Speaker 1: which I mean that sucks. They'd done such a good
- 49:56Speaker 1: job so far, there was just no way to avoid
- 49:59Speaker 1: this one. They launched themselves upon them. They tied them
- 50:04Speaker 1: up with duct tape. They took the key to the
- 50:06Speaker 1: vault prep room. Now the prep room had a camera
- 50:08Speaker 1: they couldn't avoid, like I said, which is why they
- 50:10Speaker 1: took the two armed guards who were inside. It's easy
- 50:13Speaker 1: to rush someone when nobody could possibly expect a robbery
- 50:16Speaker 1: at the dunbar facility. Who expects this not me. Those
- 50:25Speaker 1: two guards were tied down. They were told to look
- 50:28Speaker 1: directly at the floor. If they didn't, quote, their heads
- 50:32Speaker 1: would be blown off. I don't think that's what they said.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I don't think they were gonna do that. To be
- 50:37Speaker 1: honest with you, I don't notice the violence at any
- 50:40Speaker 1: of it, right Well yeah, but also like they went
- 50:42Speaker 1: through all this trouble to not be detected, you know
- 50:46Speaker 1: what I mean, and to just all of a sudden
- 50:48Speaker 1: flip is. And they didn't have any records beforehand. They
- 50:51Speaker 1: didn't have any violence on you know, background, So you know,
- 50:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if they just had like one
- 50:58Speaker 1: weapon there and that was it, you know, in order
- 51:01Speaker 1: to just like threaten. But there really wasn't any amention
- 51:03Speaker 1: of guns. Mostly through this. Not only were these folks
- 51:07Speaker 1: tied down looking at the floor, but again a great idea.
- 51:11Speaker 1: The team made sure that at least one of them
- 51:13Speaker 1: was watching these guards at all times. These last two
- 51:16Speaker 1: the U haul truck was brought inside the dock by
- 51:18Speaker 1: one of the robbers once they gained access to the
- 51:20Speaker 1: vault prep room. Again, the vault is always open on
- 51:23Speaker 1: Friday nights because that's when employees moved cash inside the
- 51:26Speaker 1: vault that was needed for the weekend. Pace also knew
- 51:30Speaker 1: that the money was divided by delivery routes, and he
- 51:33Speaker 1: knew which had the largest denomination of bills. One thing
- 51:37Speaker 1: that I think contributed to their success is that his
- 51:40Speaker 1: Pace's knowledge of the routes and that they cherry picked
- 51:43Speaker 1: the cash that they wanted to take. In addition, they
- 51:46Speaker 1: also didn't take any brand new, suquentially numbered bills that
- 51:50Speaker 1: could be traced back to the robbery. Smart move.
- 51:54Speaker 2: I'd say they did their planning. I mean they I mean,
- 52:00Speaker 2: I'm not trying to give them you know, I don't
- 52:02Speaker 2: want to say they did great, but I'm just saying they.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Honestly, I am some thought into it. This was well done.
- 52:12Speaker 1: At any moment during this entire time, anybody could have arrived.
- 52:15Speaker 1: I mean that danger is real and that would have
- 52:17Speaker 1: messed everything up. And if if the you know, if
- 52:19Speaker 1: they did have a weapon or two or five involved,
- 52:21Speaker 1: those probably would have been used at that point. Maybe,
- 52:26Speaker 1: you know, if they are in a corner. People do
- 52:27Speaker 1: crazy things when they're back in a corner. But despite that,
- 52:32Speaker 1: that fear of concerned, they had to do one more thing,
- 52:34Speaker 1: just one. They found the video recorders and they took
- 52:38Speaker 1: the tapes with them, smart move, just in case the
- 52:45Speaker 1: no So now they they they were There were two
- 52:48Speaker 1: locations that these VCRs were from. For those of you
- 52:51Speaker 1: playing the home game of I was born in the thousands.
- 52:54Speaker 1: VCRs play tapes. They're like big things that have two
- 52:57Speaker 1: reels and then there's film that was across from one
- 53:00Speaker 1: to the other, and then it goes on the TV
- 53:03Speaker 1: and you can rewind it and pass forward it. There
- 53:05Speaker 1: are no chapters, and you can accidentally record over it
- 53:08Speaker 1: and that makes everybody sad. So okay, I know.
- 53:14Speaker 2: This is totally off topic, but I just saw somebody
- 53:18Speaker 2: who said that they showed their kid a picture of
- 53:22Speaker 2: a floppy disk and their kids said, oh, that's cool, mom,
- 53:28Speaker 2: you made a print out of the save icon. And
- 53:35Speaker 2: I looked, I'm like okay, it does look like the
- 53:38Speaker 2: save document.
- 53:39Speaker 1: I captain, You're right. We were still in Geo Cities
- 53:45Speaker 1: and angel Fire back then, and there were no clouds
- 53:47Speaker 1: in sight. That's right, not one, not one. I you
- 53:52Speaker 1: know what, I I need one. I have a couple
- 53:55Speaker 1: of tapes I would like to play. I just don't
- 53:58Speaker 1: have one at the moment. So there were two locations
- 54:03Speaker 1: that these VCRs were from. The first location was pretty
- 54:06Speaker 1: easy because I mean and it made sense. It was
- 54:08Speaker 1: in the supervisor's office, of course. The second one was
- 54:13Speaker 1: a little harder to find. It was kind of in
- 54:15Speaker 1: the back in a closet in a room off the side.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I caught you high eighties, hiamus uh. Okay, So the
- 54:31Speaker 1: second one was hard to find, but they had information
- 54:33Speaker 1: from Pace's ex girlfriend, who also worked at Dunbart. So
- 54:38Speaker 1: and it just so happened that his ex girlfriend it
- 54:42Speaker 1: was her job to change out the tape in the
- 54:44Speaker 1: backup recording system.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Ah. So one time it pays off to get your
- 54:51Speaker 2: honey where you get your money.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Right, Yes, it's true, so true. Okay, so they no
- 55:07Speaker 1: shots were fired. They got off with the largest cash
- 55:10Speaker 1: heist in American history up until recently. If you heard
- 55:14Speaker 1: about the news recently that's now the largest, But up
- 55:17Speaker 1: until very I was like literally reading this research at
- 55:22Speaker 1: the same time that that news came in, and I
- 55:24Speaker 1: was like, what did you did you.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Use this information to pull off the heist that just happened.
- 55:34Speaker 1: So you know, yes, they totally flew. I can't even
- 55:40Speaker 1: afford to fly out to do the heist, so.
- 55:44Speaker 2: I don't expect you to buy drinks and Denver.
- 55:49Speaker 1: You have all that, buddy, Listen, I don't buy drinks
- 55:53Speaker 1: for free.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Okay, I will bring you Okay, No, my goat is
- 56:03Speaker 2: off limits for any favors.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't like that. I just oh, okay, you
- 56:08Speaker 1: know that.
- 56:10Speaker 2: I don't know if you've heard, but in Texas they
- 56:12Speaker 2: call him. Yeah, I'm oh, what is it? But it's
- 56:16Speaker 2: something very not nice about doing bad things.
- 56:20Speaker 1: I'm in the diet Hope of the South. I'm not
- 56:23Speaker 1: that far into the South. And yes, that's is a generality,
- 56:26Speaker 1: and I apologize for everybody who's in here who's from
- 56:29Speaker 1: the South.
- 56:30Speaker 2: I'm kidding well, I will bring the goat if I
- 56:32Speaker 2: can get him certified by July. If I can get
- 56:36Speaker 2: him certified to be my animal by July, he will
- 56:39Speaker 2: come with me.
- 56:41Speaker 1: That would be awesome. So they made off with eighteen
- 56:47Speaker 1: point nine million dollars in ninety seven with an m
- 56:55Speaker 1: in ninety seven today, that is the equivalent of thirty
- 57:01Speaker 1: five point nine million dollars. Ship Did you hear that?
- 57:09Speaker 1: That's a.
- 57:11Speaker 2: A lot of money, he.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Said, He said, give me a can. Oh, just he can.
- 57:20Speaker 1: This makes everything better. We listen. I could now do
- 57:24Speaker 1: the toolbox murders with the goat there. No, I couldn't.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I won't. Well that's one case. I won't never cover box.
- 57:34Speaker 1: It's a toolbox. I think it's toolbox. Angie will tell me.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Am I getting that right or wrong?
- 57:40Speaker 2: Or is it the toy box? Is it the toy box?
- 57:43Speaker 1: The toy box used to put them?
- 57:49Speaker 2: Cindy was her name. And yeah, no, we're not covering that.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I will never. I've always decided to do that. Okay, Hey,
- 58:03Speaker 1: Amos still has a rollodex of pluppies. I love it.
- 58:06Speaker 1: That makes me happy on the inside and on the outside,
- 58:09Speaker 1: as you can tell. So while they were trying to
- 58:12Speaker 1: figure out what to do with the money, the investigation started.
- 58:15Speaker 1: But all they could really find was a plastic tail
- 58:17Speaker 1: light lens that didn't really belong to any company vehicles.
- 58:21Speaker 1: The FBI was able to connect that to ones that
- 58:24Speaker 1: were used on fourteen foot ule haul trucks. But here's
- 58:27Speaker 1: the thing. That U haul truck was rented by Pace's buddy,
- 58:34Speaker 1: who they don't have any reason to connect them, and
- 58:37Speaker 1: he never worked at the base, so it just it
- 58:40Speaker 1: wasn't what So they didn't really get anything off of
- 58:42Speaker 1: that anyway, So what do they do. They're not going
- 58:45Speaker 1: to spend spend it lavishly. The money was being stored
- 58:49Speaker 1: in trash bags, because that's what you do with money. Yes,
- 58:55Speaker 1: each of them initially got one hundred thousand dollars and
- 58:58Speaker 1: Pace put the rest in a storage facility. One hundred
- 59:01Speaker 1: thousand is just about one hundred and seventy thousand today.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure where he got the Yeah, I'm
- 59:14Speaker 1: not sure where he got This job was the last
- 59:17Speaker 1: thing they would ever need to do. But my guess
- 59:19Speaker 1: is that he kind of treated it like the lotto
- 59:21Speaker 1: where option where you're like paid a little every month
- 59:24Speaker 1: so that they wouldn't have it all at the same time,
- 59:26Speaker 1: and that prevent them from making a mistake and you know,
- 59:32Speaker 1: buying something massive or attracting attention. For six months, nothing happened.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Then Pace and the crew put a million dollars to
- 59:41Speaker 1: pay for real estate property in the LA area. Pace
- 59:44Speaker 1: made sure that nothing could be traced back to him.
- 59:46Speaker 1: He spent a lot of money in cash. He didn't
- 59:47Speaker 1: have a bank account. At one point he figured, actually,
- 59:53Speaker 1: this is what's fascinating to me. At one point he
- 59:56Speaker 1: actually figured out they had stolen some sequential bills and
- 59:59Speaker 1: that was a total accident because they tried to avoid
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: doing that. And because of that, he asked two of
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the team to go burn the money.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: They so he literally had money to burn.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty mu much. Here's the thing though, so this
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: isn't what really, this isn't what got them. But the
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: two of them realized it took way too long to
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: burn money. It's it's it's not paper. Money is not paper.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: It's fabric. That's why it doesn't fall apart in the wash.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: So there's a lot more to it. What did you
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: not know that? Yeah?
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I did not know that.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Dollar bills dollar bills.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I thought it was paper and fibers. I thought it
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: was both. Is it is it just fabric?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: It's I thought it was twenty five percent linen, seventy
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: five percent cotton with red and blue fibers distributed randomly throughout.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I learned that when I went to the treasury the
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: mint the mint up in DC. So anyways, it took
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: too long to burn the money, and so they did
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: what anybody else would do. They decided to spend it
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: in Vegas.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Why not this one does.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Now. They did find out that new bills jam up
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: slot machines because they're so crisp and you know, difficult
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: to get into the slot machine. So they put it
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I don't know, that's what it said in what I read.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: So they put the cash in a washing machine to
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: make it usable. So there you go. Totally. The investigation
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: went cold. Pace ended up buying an office space. He
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: set up a new company called Extreme Entertainment on the
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Surface that rented party equipment jet skis limos, but it
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: was actually a front to pay the crew more money
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: right from that stolen money. So he hired them and
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: that's what he used to dole it out. What Pace
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: didn't realize is that Hill, who happened to be the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: same guy who rented the U haul. Hill gave a
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: middleman one hundred thousand dollars to buy the property, but
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: failed to remove the cash straps.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: But he tells people it's the details.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: And it wasn't even Pace that made the mistake. So
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the middleman contacted the authorities after discovering the straps. They
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: determined that from the dates on the straps that that
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: was the money taken. They started watching Hill and the
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: authority subpoened his bank at phone records tens of thousands
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: of U haul records to link Hill with the U
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: haul rental. They arrested him and he do you remember
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: that meeting that they all had where they said, we're
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: not going to flip on anybody. We're going to take
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: the blame entire early if we're caught. Yeah, right, Like
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: basically you might as well have cut their palms and
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: shook hands or spit on their hands and whatever. Like. Yeah. No,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: He immediately elected to assist with the investigation. He admitted
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: his involvement, and he named the accomplices dog Gunnet. Cannot
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: get good help, No, just can't. The FBI offered him
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: a deal, he took it. Pace remained true to his word,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: though he refused to rat anybody out. The trial commenced
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: in February of one, The defendants who pled guilty were
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: given seven and a half to eleven year sentences. Pace
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: was found guilty and received twenty four years, probably because
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: he put it together. However, to this day, Pace denies
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: any involvement with the robbery. He thought he had been framed.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: This was his reasoning he'd been framed by one of
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: the other defendants, quote because I was messing with his wife.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Now, how much money is did they recover?
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: That's my very next thing. They were only ever right,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: they were only ever They were only ever able to
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: recover about five million of the eighteen point nine million
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: by way of the homes, cars, and other valuables they bought.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: There's over ten million still unaccounted for. The rest is
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: thought to have been squandered by them at gambling tables
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: in Las Vegas or burned because you know, because of
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: the sequentially numbered bills that they found.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: The now they got smart and hit some of that
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: money somewhere for when they got out they could spend it.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: So if they did that, my question, if you rob
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: the bank and you get busted like they did, and
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: that ten million or however many millions are not recovered,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: can they get busted again for spending it or are
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: they off the hook for right Oh, I don't know.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: That's because they did their time.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. There was one of the guys,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Eric Damon Boyd. Eric's father was an immigration lawyer. This
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: is the interesting part. There were four of the accomplices, right,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: four out of five who pleaded guilty testified over a
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: three week trial, as did Boyd's father, Steve Boyd, who
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: told judge jurors that his son had confessed to him,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: so he was part of it right now. But that's
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: that's that's that's not it. Steve Boyd, the son's father,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: laundered one hundred and seventy seven thousand dollars in cash
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: for his son through his business.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: So hey, so did he get his at least law
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: license taken away?
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: I believe that he did. Good now. Pace and Boyd
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: were sentenced on April twenty third, two thousand, one sentence
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: later with the other accomplices. But this is one of
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: the most intricate, methodical, and brilliant cash robberies that has
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: ever been committed up until this point. That is the
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Dunbar heist of nineteen ninety seven and they didn't need
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Twitter to do it, and that's probably why they got
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: away with it, so.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: That, I mean, yeah, wasn't just those darn money bands.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: I I have to be honest, I wouldn't have thought
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: that the many bands were traceable.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I think I think it's.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Okay, don't seem.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Right. I'm gonna hurt myself. I think it's not so
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: much the traceable, it's the fact that it was very
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: suspicious that he received a bunch of money wrapped in
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: multiple bands, and when he reported it, the police took
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a look at the bands and said, hmm, that's the
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: same day as this, and then they started putting things together. Okay,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: real quick before I forget, and not on purpose, obviously,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: I'm just my memory shot. I do want to say this.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I spoke to to Rudy and he wants to do
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: a show tomorrow. So we're gonna do Hay Ho show
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: tomorrow night. We are not gonna do the quiz tomorrow night,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: but we were gonna just kind of hang out and
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: have some fun tomorrow. So that's gonna be tomorrow at nine.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: And then also I made an adjustment to the the
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: command for Hey Ho show or not Hay ho show,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: but night Court. I realized after scheduling us for like
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Monday Wednesday, that on Wednesdays a chunk of things happen
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: for me, whether it's soccer games or the new bowling
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: league that I'm joining. So because I'm eighty, but are you.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Talking about real bowling or what bowling refers to for couples.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: No, real bowling.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Okay, so you are eighty, Yes.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: I am, for sure. But the league at the end,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: you get two bowling balls out of it, So that's
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: kind of cool. I'll take it. It's a great deal.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: It doesn't I get two new balls. I have two
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: right now, but they're the old balls. I need new balls,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: so I'll have four balls, so enough balls for everybody.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: So I have a question. Tomorrow night. I think I'm
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: gonna drop in and see y'all because Double H will
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: be out of the ranch, so I will be at
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: home drinking a lot of cocktails. Double H bowls. He
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: even has his own bowling ball with his nickname Douche
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: imprinted into his bowling ball.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Not Deuce, Douche, Douche dude. I.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: He won't tell me the story behind that.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: But because he cleans up, I don't. That's weird. Okay, what.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Maybe one day we'll get him to come on and
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: he can tell us. But no, I would love to
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: see you and Rudy tomorrow night.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Okay that sounds good. Yeah, of course you're always welcome.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: You're always always welcome. Uh so so yeah, so fkay,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Hey Ho show, no quiz. But and then Monday Tuesday. Okay.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: So so Monday is midday missing in May in May
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: uh and then also night court Court, and then Tuesday
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: will be night Court, and then Wednesday will be midday missing,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: and then Thursday will be true Crime in One Time,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: and then the opposite of that will be Hey Ho
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: show on Fridays. We've gone from zero to sixty real fast.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: I have, and since I figured out why I can't
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: do anything on my computer, and it's because my mouse
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: is dead and it needs to charge. Somebody asks what
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: adult bowling is? So bowling here in Texas when I
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: grew up, that meant your parents were doing chikibaubow wow wow.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: So they would say, Hey, we're going bowling tonight and
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: don't come in the bedroom. So bowling was code word
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: for them having sexy time.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Oh is that what that's called that's what that is.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: So my Philippines recruiting team always laughs when I would
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: ask them, I'm like, so did I go bowling this weekend?
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: And they didn't know what that meant? And I told
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: them and they were like, oh, oh, miss Terry, you
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: can't ask us.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: That, you know. I was always told that, like when
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: thunder hit, it was the angel's bowling, And now I
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: have a completely different thought as to what that means.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: I was told that was my grandparents bowling.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Oh m hmm, well why not, you know.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: You know they I guess my parents thought it was
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: spicy because my mom and dad did bowl on a
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: bowling league. So I guess that was their way of
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: slipping in bowling and we wouldn't think anything, I guess.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Phrasing phrasing flipping in. Oh geez, gonna go bowl with
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: pineapples or grapefruit or grapefruit.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: Close your ears, Jasper, you're too young for this. But
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: now we have gone from zero to sixty looking at
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: our stuff, which I have to say that I'm kind
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: of excited about it.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. Despite despite one, two three, it's still
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: only it's still for me, it's still only three days,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: three nights a week because of things flipping back and forth,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: and so it's well, while you still get a lot
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: of content, it's still manageable because there's nothing I hate
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: more than canceling. I hate it. I hate it. I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: hate it. I still feel guilty for canceling in my
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: earlier livestream life. Oh so I don't like doing it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I I hear you, and that's why I wound up
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: pushing Midday missing to May, hoping the vertigo would be gone.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: I'm getting an infusion on Monday, so shouldn't have to
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: cancel because I'm the same way I. I put so
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: much pressure on myself when I have to cancel that
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I literally, I mean, I just sit there and beat
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: myself up, which is not good, you know to do.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's the The one thing that helps is
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: the community that we have being forgiving and caring, and
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: so that helps me feel better about it. But if
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: I don't have to, I don't want to. Of course,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: life happens.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: So but yeah, like I even told the group because
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I popped onto the Midday yesterday because we forgot to
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: take it down, and told them that even if Vertigo
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: hit tonight, I was going to do it from my
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: bed in my pajamas, And yes, I would put pajamas
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: on since I don't sleep in pajamas, but I would
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: put pajamas on to be on YouTube so they wouldn't
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: try to refer us to only fans, because we don't
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: need to see any white beached whales on YouTube.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Terry, No, but we do need that income.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: We I mean, we could use the income so that
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: we can. I will say, on our first midday missing,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: we have a bonker's case to cover. I actually because
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: on midday missing, we're not doing investigation. We're just sharing stuff.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: I actually talked to the family of a missing person,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: and Guys, I cried for close to two hours afterwards,
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: because we're just gonna say, Harris County, who's screwed up
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: on the Chase Lackey case, has screwed up even worse
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: on this other case.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I just heard the bullet points, y'all, and she's not kidding.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So I'm excited to do a midday missing and
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: we'll probably even maybe bring some families on if they
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: can do it during the day. All now, we have
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: to be harder on ourself. We got high standards for ourselves.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: But I'll be honest. We're going to bring this new content.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: We're going to only reschedule if we have to. One
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: thing I've told JT. We have to make sure we
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: take care of ourselves because especially on the true crimes,
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: it's heartbreaking and it can take its toll on you.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: And I will tell you the missing Midday. That's why
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: we're going to keep it thirty to forty five minutes
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: our tops, because it's heartbreaking, it's and I take everything
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: so personal. I mean I have cried myself to sleep
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: over Chase Lackey. I feel like I know him because
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: of his family and friends and this isn't even my kid,
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: and I cry about him. So it's it's hard. And
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: that's why I'll be honest, guys. Every time we finish
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: a live stream, I go take a bubble bath because
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: I have to do something to just try to erase
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: my mind, and I just listen to some good old
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: country music and lay my head back.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, And you know you have a perfect
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: time too for it, because it's really when a lot
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of course courts go in recess for lunch and so
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: instead of like staring at an empty chair from somebody
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: else or a live like you know, whatever it's, you
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: can hop over to us and then hop whatever you
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: want to do. So it's a it's a really good
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: good spot for it. And I think that that's when
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: most people are going to be able to take a
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: break from where they're at and and and experience those
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: stories and maybe they know something you never know, you never.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Know, you never know. And I mentioned this yesterday episode
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: two of True Crime and Wine Time. When I started it,
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: and I did it by myself. I covered Kimberly Langwell,
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: who is missing out of the Golden Triangle, Boma Port,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: author Port and H's area, and I did research. I
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: wasn't confident enough in my abilities to investigate, but I
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: narrowed down who I thought it was and I found
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: him and I wanted to go to his house and
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: question him, and Double Ah was like, have you lost
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: your f and mine? Now I would just get my
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: back up and go. They are actually taking it to
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: the grand jury, and that guy looks like he's gonna
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: be indicted.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: So.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: I would like to think just by sharing that case,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I noticed after we did it, a couple of other
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: podcasts covered it because it was a pretty much unknown case,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: nobody knew anything. So I would just like to think
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: that just by giving it a little bit of exposure
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: as a newby podcast. I mean, it's not a great episode.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: I've listened to it repeatedly and I'm like, yeah, that's so.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: I mean, but I was just starting out, you know.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: But and that's what I hope with Midday Missing we
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: can do is just get the word out. Because guess what,
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Nobody can go missing without somebody knowing or seeing something.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: I said this yesterday. It's not like a little invisible
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: a ship comes and suck somebody up. It doesn't happen.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: It is impossible for somebody to just disappear. It doesn't happen.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Sure does Sure? Does? You know? At some point I'll
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: get I'll get brave enough to where just for fun,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: for like a fun evening, I'll just stream our bowling
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: night from the bowling alley. It'll be fun. Why not?
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: That would be fun?
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Give you some you can hang out with me, Rudy
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: and my buddy Billy, and you can see how bad
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I am and it'll be fun. That'll be fun.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: But you know what, I think we told everybody that
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: we're all going to be together. In July at the
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: True Crime and Paranormal Conference and Mike, your original co
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: host and lifelong co host of Brue Crime. We're gonna
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: all be there together and we're gonna do some live
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: streaming if we can get Mike on camera. Mike is
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: not like JT and I who love the camera. Mike's
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: like yet, no, But we're going to try after a
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: few drinks, couple of gummies.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: That that glorious, glorious beard needs to be on camera.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: It does, and he even said I could put pink
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: bows in it. So I am going to make some
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: pink bows.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Awesome, perfect. Yes, we are definitely gonna stream. I that's
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: the thing. You know again, this is like the whole
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: promised thing we promise to stream. We're gonna stream. Wait,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: we've got the tech, We've got the knowledge and know how.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: It's just a matter of just taking the stuff with
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: us and.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Done us not making total idiots of ourself after cocktails
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: and lives streaming.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: What's the difference?
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Ye, all I know is I made the decision and
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: I hadn't told you this yet, JT. But if any
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: of our subscribers show up at that event and show
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: me on their phone or whatever device. I will send
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: them a free T shirt for True Crime and Wine Time.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: And if there's multiples, I will pay for the shirts
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: and send them because I really think it'd be cool
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: to meet some of them.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: There's what, Well, I'm gonna get kicked off. There's always multiples.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Well, I am known for multiples. I mean not gonna lie.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: I'll own it.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: We're talking about strikes, strikes and bowling. Wait, that still
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: doesn't make any.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Strikes and bowlings. Yes, I would love if people can
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: come and meet us and hang out with us, because
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: if anybody does, I'd also to bring them in on
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: the live stream, rang.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: Them multiple That's exactly what the judge said.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, maybe depending on where everybody lives, just
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: get a convoy together and drive to Denver.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: That's a fun drive too, That would.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Be a fun drive. Yeah, all right, it'll be exciting.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Oh for sure.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Maybe we can go bowling while we're in Denver.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I won't say no, but I'm not real I am,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: but I'm not not going to bring.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: My Okay, you know what I need to clarify real bowling.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sharing a room with somebody, but it ain't
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: for that so.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: If it is, I do not need to know. But no,
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: I'm excited. I think taking a break and just doing
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: things every other week is good. And I think you
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: doing night court a couple of nights instead of trying
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: to doing four or five makes more sense. Now when
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: we get to where we can both quit our jobs
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: and do this full time, heck, we can stream eight
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: hours a day.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: That would be the ultimate goal. That's what we would
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: love to do. We got a little ways to go
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: on that one, but that's okay, we.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Do hey, but we all got to have goals.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: It's true. It's true. Also, I don't I don't go
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: bowling at conferences. That's how you get I'm gonna bring
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: this back full circle right now, that's how you get chlamydia.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: You took up that from Koala Bears.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: You only want to take away from conferences like that,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: stickers and fun stuff. You don't want to take clamydia
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: away from a conference. But that is how that happens.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: So you know, don't don't do that.
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to bring back anything contagious.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: From the audience.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: No, so, but I think it's going to be exciting,
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: and it'll be exciting to see you tomorrow night.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Yes, yes, excited, everybody, come on back, we'll be here.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Hit the little reminder button in it. I already scheduled
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: it so it should be up now and uh we
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: will see you then, all right. Uh. I will finish
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: up with take care of yourself, your friend, friends, your family,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: your community. Don't let anybody doll your sparkle and shine
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: on you crazy diamonds.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: And I'm going to say, as always, stay safe, watch
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: out for crime, and enjoy your wine time. I want
