- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Morning from the very rainy
- 0:30chicken coop. Girls are all out loving the
- 0:34rain, getting soaked. Me, not so much. 3 days of rain,
- 0:37no fun. Anyway, I want to talk to you
- 0:40about an interesting conversation I had with my son's
- 0:42friend. So he was over here On the
- 0:45weekends. They hang out together
- 0:47constantly just because they don't have school, they don't
- 0:50have work, they don't have things to do.
- 0:52So they're hanging out. And yesterday I made a banana
- 0:57bread for snack just to have on the counter.
- 1:00I like to have things when the boys come in there on the
- 1:02counter. So they had been coming in and
- 1:05out all day and before you know it, half the banana bread was
- 1:08gone. And I was laughing and I was
- 1:10like, wow, that like took maybe 3 hours and they were laughing
- 1:13and they were. And he said to me, my son's
- 1:15friend said it's really good. So then they're going to get
- 1:18ready to go to a very scary movie, which I do not attend
- 1:21scary movies. I hate them.
- 1:23I'm in the middle of watching the Penguin on HBO with my
- 1:27husband and I'm borderline too uncomfortable to watch it.
- 1:30Like I can't face the screen. I have to like turn my head.
- 1:34It's it's very dark. But I mean, it's a good
- 1:37compelling story, but it's very dark.
- 1:39In any event, he's I I said to them before they were going to
- 1:43go to the movies. I said, does anybody want a
- 1:45sandwich? Because there's not going to be
- 1:47time. They made the decision to go to
- 1:49this one show of the scary movie they wanted to see.
- 1:52And they said, sure. And he said to me, you don't
- 1:55have to get me a sandwich, ma'am.
- 1:56And I was like, I of course I'm going to make you a sandwich.
- 2:00And he goes, you're just too kind to me.
- 2:02And I said, no, honey, those are my rules for being a mom.
- 2:06And he's like, but you're not my mom.
- 2:08And I said, no, but I'm Lucas's mom.
- 2:10And if you if Lucas loves you, then you're welcome in my home
- 2:13and I make you feel comfortable. And as I'm saying this, I see
- 2:17the look on his face and he's just standing there.
- 2:19And I said, I want to show you something right now.
- 2:22I said we all have rules for certain things.
- 2:24And my rules for being a mom have always been very, very
- 2:28strict when it comes to certain things like this.
- 2:30Because when I was little, I was an only child and my mother made
- 2:34it very comfortable for me to have friends over all the time.
- 2:37They were allowed to go to dinner with us.
- 2:38They were allowed to eat with us.
- 2:40They were allowed to go in the pool with me, do homework,
- 2:43sleepovers and I appreciated that she did that for me and she
- 2:47always made them feel comfortable.
- 2:49In fact, my dad, my best friend growing up was a person named
- 2:53GAIL and GAIL was, she lived like 5 houses down the road and
- 2:58she was always at our house because she was the youngest of
- 3:01a huge family. So she often got sidelined
- 3:05because they just lost track of her.
- 3:07And so she would just come and stay at our house.
- 3:09If they bought me a winter jacket, they would buy Gayle a
- 3:12winter jacket. It was just the kind of thing
- 3:16that my parents did and it instilled in me these rules.
- 3:20So I'm explaining this all that we all have rules for things.
- 3:23And I'm telling him these stories and his eyes are just
- 3:26getting wider and wider. And I, when I finish, Lucas
- 3:31goes, well, yeah. I mean, isn't that the way it
- 3:33is? You have rules for things?
- 3:35Because I realize he understands this concept because we are
- 3:40living it all the time. And he's living it with me.
- 3:43And you know, he understands how I come at that as being a mom.
- 3:47So all of a sudden he's like, my son speaks up and says, well,
- 3:53it's just like being a plumber. You don't I'm, I'm training for
- 3:56this and I don't waste my boss's time or money.
- 3:59So when I'm on that clock, I'm not wasting time.
- 4:02He's paying me for it. I'm not sitting around, I'm not
- 4:06twiddling my thumbs. I'm not doing things.
- 4:08And he's like, and it drives me crazy when I'm with some people
- 4:11that might do that. And all of a sudden I recognized
- 4:14how that one rule of how I show up with things has infiltrated
- 4:18everything in his world. It's just, it's been and it's
- 4:21been a great mind virus, let's put it that way, because it's
- 4:24definitely that virus type thing where it spreads to everything.
- 4:27And then I see how it spreads. Me just having this conversation
- 4:31with his friend. Now all of a sudden that's going
- 4:34to spread. And I went on to say you can
- 4:37have rules for how you treat everybody.
- 4:38Just like my animals. I have rules for how I treat my
- 4:41animals. I have rules for how I treat my
- 4:44yard, how I treat my gardens, how I handle everything that's
- 4:47in my world. I'm a caretaker, my clients,
- 4:51especially my clients, they, they are, they know they have me
- 4:55to be able to say and help them through things.
- 4:58And I fully appreciate that. That is something that I really
- 5:03respect and don't take advantage of.
- 5:05So the point of this today, the point of letting you know all
- 5:08this is understand your rules for each one of these
- 5:11categories. What kind of mom do you want to
- 5:13be? If that's what you're doing?
- 5:14What kind of partner, what kind of of person, what kind of
- 5:18learner, what kind of artist? I don't care what it is, but
- 5:21just ask those questions because whatever they are, you will
- 5:24learn to be better at it when you ask those questions.
- 5:28OK my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see you
- 5:31tomorrow. Bye.
