- 0:00Speaker 1: We know that well, the whole ride, the Salvation, well,
- 0:03Speaker 1: the whole ride, the Toy Run. They're getting together and
- 0:07Speaker 1: they're teaming up with the Salvation Army to really make
- 0:10Speaker 1: sure that you know that we're helping kids out, I
- 0:14Speaker 1: guess this Christmas and ensuring that everybody does have a
- 0:18Speaker 1: present and joining us in the studio to tell us
- 0:21Speaker 1: a little bit more about this wonderful event that is happening.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I have got Marguerite and also will good morning to
- 0:27Speaker 1: you both. Goodnighte, good morning and now you're both Harley
- 0:30Speaker 1: Davidson Riders. Tell us a little bit more about the
- 0:34Speaker 1: whole ride that's happening this year.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Okay, Well, regarding the Toy Run, it's an annual event
- 0:39Speaker 2: that's been around since the nineteen eighties in some shape
- 0:42Speaker 2: or form, and it's now a national, if or international
- 0:45Speaker 2: event as well. Our group took over from the Ulysses
- 0:52Speaker 2: Club back around the back around the late two thousands
- 0:57Speaker 2: and was organized by a one name Crasher and Tom
- 1:02Speaker 2: and we've been running the as far as the whole
- 1:04Speaker 2: group is concerned. Harley Ryders group been since around twenty nineteen,
- 1:12Speaker 2: been growing as by year as she grew.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and Marguerite. We caught up last year ahead of
- 1:17Speaker 1: the toy Run, didn't we And you're expecting it to
- 1:20Speaker 1: be a pretty big one last year, no doubt. This
- 1:23Speaker 1: year even more.
- 1:24Speaker 3: So, absolutely, Katie, and thank you so much for having us,
- 1:27Speaker 3: because it is actually a joy time of the year
- 1:30Speaker 3: for everybody to not only enjoy the time of the
- 1:33Speaker 3: year but also to contribute. And this year's toy run
- 1:38Speaker 3: is on the fourth, which is Sunday on the fourth
- 1:41Speaker 3: of December. We are gathering at the Anti Motorcycle Center
- 1:44Speaker 3: from about nine thirty and ten thirty. Sharp Start is
- 1:49Speaker 3: when we all get together to rade through a venue
- 1:54Speaker 3: through the Root, which has been the same since highly on.
- 1:58Speaker 3: This group has taken the organization of the toy run
- 2:02Speaker 3: and we will be heading towards Pines Club, Darwin where
- 2:08Speaker 3: all the toys that everybody will contribute will be delivered to.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And I would like everybody to know that you can
- 2:17Speaker 3: start collecting or you can start gathering and delivering toys
- 2:21Speaker 3: to some points that we have around town, and one
- 2:24Speaker 3: of them is the Anti Motorcycle Center at Barrama with
- 2:27Speaker 3: a highly honest group Shoppi is there's a City of
- 2:31Speaker 3: Palmerston campus that collects toys, and there's also the Scutter
- 2:35Speaker 3: Shop in a city that also collects toys. So anybody
- 2:38Speaker 3: who would like to donate a toy, you can bring
- 2:39Speaker 3: it to those places as well as come and join
- 2:43Speaker 3: us on your motorcycle for the ride on the Force
- 2:45Speaker 3: of the Sember.
- 2:47Speaker 1: And look, Christmas is such a beautiful time, it's such
- 2:50Speaker 1: a happy time for so many people, but there's a
- 2:53Speaker 1: lot of people as well where it is a bit
- 2:54Speaker 1: of a struggle, and it's a real struggle then for
- 2:57Speaker 1: some of our kids in terms of making all the
- 3:00Speaker 1: kids do still get a present for Christmas. And really
- 3:03Speaker 1: that's what this is all about.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Is Nash very much, absolutely Katie, and that's why we
- 3:09Speaker 3: have those collection points, and that's why we are donating
- 3:12Speaker 3: all the toys that people wish to bring to the
- 3:15Speaker 3: Salvation Army who are ultimately charged with distributing the toys.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And we really would like to have people that I
- 3:22Speaker 3: cannot ride for one reason or another to be along
- 3:25Speaker 3: the route that will be riding. Will have at least
- 3:28Speaker 3: around the two hundred mark riders and we'll be riding
- 3:32Speaker 3: from the Bearrama Motorcycle Center place through Amy Johnson Avenue
- 3:37Speaker 3: via Dyker Brandon drive into Bennett Street, Mitchell Street, onto
- 3:41Speaker 3: Day Streets, to a Highway onto Amy Johnson Magdullum's Road
- 3:46Speaker 3: and Marra Road to Aballa Road and ending up at
- 3:49Speaker 3: Pines Creek Pines Sorry Pines Club. So we would like
- 3:52Speaker 3: to see everybody cheering up and watching us carrying their toys.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and so around two hundred Harley Davidson writers and owners,
- 4:02Speaker 1: we'll all riding along collecting those different gifts and then
- 4:06Speaker 1: heading to the Pint Club where you'll ultimately finish up.
- 4:09Speaker 1: What do we know what kind of gifts are the
- 4:12Speaker 1: best to really be donating and the Salvation Army do
- 4:16Speaker 1: such an incredible job. Do we know what kind of
- 4:19Speaker 1: gifts or what kind of age groups?
- 4:21Speaker 2: Well, the age group varies. I think everybody loves to
- 4:24Speaker 2: give a teddy bear, but teddy bear so it fits
- 4:27Speaker 2: a certain age demographic. Whereas we've got older kids as well.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And if I think back about my kids, they would
- 4:32Speaker 2: really love a voucher or something like that. I've got
- 4:35Speaker 2: a sports girl vouch you're waiting to hand into the
- 4:38Speaker 2: Salvos on the day, so something like that, So that
- 4:41Speaker 2: older kids have got a bit of a I guess
- 4:43Speaker 2: a bit of a guernsey as well. When it comes
- 4:45Speaker 2: to the Christmas steaks.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I think that's so important, isn't it, Because you made
- 4:49Speaker 1: such a good point there. Very often we go, oh,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I saw this lovely teddy bear or this gift for
- 4:53Speaker 1: a small child. But they're not the only ones, and
- 4:56Speaker 1: you've got to make sure that the older kids are
- 4:58Speaker 1: included as well. And it's you know, nobody wants to
- 5:02Speaker 1: feel like they're given a handout. It's a hand up.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And it's so important that you know that people have
- 5:08Speaker 1: that dignity as well when they are then in the
- 5:10Speaker 1: position where they get to choose a gift. Absolutely so,
- 5:15Speaker 1: all right, where can people go once again, Marguerite if
- 5:17Speaker 1: they want to firstly, if they want to maybe get involved,
- 5:19Speaker 1: if they're thinking, do you know what I want to
- 5:21Speaker 1: ride with these guys? Exactly?
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yes, please come along to the Anti Motorcycle Center at Barrama.
- 5:26Speaker 3: There's a big Son Harley Owners Harley Davidson sign on
- 5:31Speaker 3: Stuart Highway and that's where people gather for the ride
- 5:35Speaker 3: from eighth Surchy for ten sirchy start. So anyone who
- 5:39Speaker 3: wishes to participate on the bike, that's the place to
- 5:42Speaker 3: be there's going to be center. There will be a
- 5:46Speaker 3: prize for best dress female and best dress male. Christmas
- 5:50Speaker 3: address up. People can come along and donate their toys
- 5:54Speaker 3: at the motorcycle center. As I said, there can be
- 5:57Speaker 3: a city or Pameston campus delivery spots, the scooter shop
- 6:01Speaker 3: in the city and of course people can bring their
- 6:03Speaker 3: toys to the Pines Club and donations. I accept it
- 6:06Speaker 3: on the day on the fourth of December.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Wonderful stuff. Thank you both so very much for joining
- 6:12Speaker 1: us this morning, and all the very best with the
- 6:16Speaker 1: Harley Davidson groups. Well Christmas Toy Run. I know it'll
- 6:19Speaker 1: be phenomenal and I'm sure that there's going to be
- 6:21Speaker 1: so many people that'll be really happy to either take
- 6:24Speaker 1: part or make a donation. It's such an important thing
- 6:26Speaker 1: to do.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Thank you for having us on promoting this.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Wonderful to see you both. Thanks
- 6:31Speaker 1: for your time.
