- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, coach, big hockey smatchup coming coming up this
- 0:04Speaker 1: weekend Friday Night at Boston College on nesson Saturday and
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hartford Tech Proud over eight thousand tickets distributed. Just want
- 0:12Speaker 1: to get your thoughts heading into into the weekend and
- 0:15Speaker 1: the battle for hockey standing.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's going to be an exciting weekend
- 0:22Speaker 2: for us for sure. Boston College has been playing you know,
- 0:28Speaker 2: I think really well. I mean, they won the bean
- 0:31Speaker 2: Pot this year. They've extremely dangerous team offensively, you know,
- 0:38Speaker 2: with Hagan's and Laturno and up front Laturno's having a
- 0:44Speaker 2: breakout year Teddy Steger. They've got a lot of guys
- 0:48Speaker 2: offensively that can hurt you for sure. And on defense
- 0:52Speaker 2: they've you know, they got experience on defense with Gustafson,
- 0:56Speaker 2: fordes Chue Menennian are all upperclassmen, and then Clutier seems
- 1:01Speaker 2: to have solidified the goaltending position for them. So we
- 1:05Speaker 2: know that it's going to be, you know, a really
- 1:10Speaker 2: I think, fast paced game. I think that you know,
- 1:16Speaker 2: we're certainly gonna have to stay out of the penalty box.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Their power play is the best in the league. So
- 1:22Speaker 2: it's going to be a great challenge for us, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: we're looking forward to it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Awesome, all right, who wants to start us off with
- 1:30Speaker 1: some questions? Go ahead, Daniel.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 1:35Speaker 4: A few years ago, I remember I was talking with
- 1:37Speaker 4: you and you were saying, some guys are just goal scorers.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And the example that you pulled out immediately with Spencer
- 1:45Speaker 4: nas what made him such a great goal scorer as
- 1:50Speaker 4: opposed to just a guy who scored goals.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't know, some guys just have a knack for
- 1:57Speaker 2: fine in the back of the net. I think a
- 1:58Speaker 2: lot of it's, you know, not necessarily picking your spot.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It's getting the puck off quickly before a goaltender can
- 2:07Speaker 2: get set or get you know, when you get it
- 2:09Speaker 2: off quick and he's not set and he's moving, that's
- 2:11Speaker 2: when you can find holes. And I think that's what
- 2:14Speaker 2: the best goal scorers do.
- 2:16Speaker 4: What specifically made Spencer a really great player?
- 2:21Speaker 5: For you?
- 2:21Speaker 4: He's still number one in the Hockey East ere for
- 2:25Speaker 4: goals scored.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Ah, he's just he's skated really well, he competed hard,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and as I said, when he got the puck on
- 2:34Speaker 2: his stick and scoring opportunities, he was able to finish.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So that's why, you know, I think he was one
- 2:41Speaker 2: of our best goal scorers that we've had here.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Okay, the lead up to that is that with Joey's
- 2:47Speaker 4: next gore going with this, damn yeah, Joey's going to
- 2:51Speaker 4: pass him if he scores one more goal for the
- 2:54Speaker 4: career goals scored record in the Hockey East era. So
- 3:00Speaker 4: talked so much about Joey, but just what does that
- 3:03Speaker 4: say about him? That he's in position to break that
- 3:07Speaker 4: record and he's only done it in three years where
- 3:09Speaker 4: Spencer was here four. Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I mean, Joey's a terrific player. And you know, he
- 3:14Speaker 2: had a breakout year last year with twenty nine goals.
- 3:17Speaker 2: This year, I think he's been a little more. I
- 3:20Speaker 2: believe last year he might have had three hat tricks.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I'm not positive on that, but you know, he scored,
- 3:28Speaker 2: he had game. You know, he got ten goals basically
- 3:30Speaker 2: in three games last year, I think, and this year,
- 3:35Speaker 2: I think he's been more consistent. I don't know what
- 3:37Speaker 2: the exact numbers are, but I want to say he
- 3:39Speaker 2: scored an eight out of his last ten games. So
- 3:42Speaker 2: he's just been more consistent. He's been around it, and
- 3:45Speaker 2: he's he's got a great shot. He gets it off quick,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and he's an outstanding skater too, so he creates scoring
- 3:53Speaker 2: opportunities with his legs as well.
- 3:56Speaker 4: How much does it help having a guy like obviously
- 4:00Speaker 4: playing with a guy like Jake. But when you guys
- 4:03Speaker 4: had the goal he pulled against Maine, it seemed like
- 4:05Speaker 4: Jake was trying to get the puck to Joey. But
- 4:08Speaker 4: that chemistry feels like it's produced a lot of those
- 4:11Speaker 4: goals that Joey has scored.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they do have great chemistry together, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know that probably started last year when we put
- 4:22Speaker 2: those two together, and then with Ryan Taddle taking over
- 4:25Speaker 2: for Hudson Chandor, they've kind of it's been a seamless
- 4:29Speaker 2: transition for those two. I think that that line has
- 4:33Speaker 2: played really well, especially in the second half.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Thanks all right, Joe, we'll go over to you.
- 4:40Speaker 7: Thanks, Thanks God morning coach from Born and Joe, when
- 4:45Speaker 7: you went back and looked at the satity tape from Maine,
- 4:49Speaker 7: was there something that you were doing that allowed them
- 4:52Speaker 7: to get all those shots on goal? Was it something
- 4:54Speaker 7: that they were doing? How did you?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we were turning the puck over, That's what we
- 4:58Speaker 2: were doing, and we didn't really manage the puck well,
- 5:03Speaker 2: and that led to you know, them getting the puck
- 5:08Speaker 2: and scoring opportunities, or it led to especially coming out
- 5:12Speaker 2: of our zone. You know, there were there were many
- 5:14Speaker 2: opportunities where we had chances to get the puck out
- 5:17Speaker 2: of the zone and we tried to make a play
- 5:19Speaker 2: that wasn't there, and then the puck comes back coming
- 5:22Speaker 2: at you and now it's you know, one shot, two shots,
- 5:24Speaker 2: there's rebounds, and that was probably one area. I think
- 5:29Speaker 2: they also had thirteen or fourteen shots on the power play,
- 5:32Speaker 2: so we started the game having to kill four power plays.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So I think that was another area the reason why
- 5:38Speaker 2: they were getting so many shots.
- 5:40Speaker 7: You mentioned Laturno. What do you see as improvement in
- 5:44Speaker 7: his game from last year to issue that that's made
- 5:47Speaker 7: him such a such a thread offensively.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You know, it's hard. I remember when Brian Boyle came
- 5:52Speaker 2: in at you know, six seven, when I coached him
- 5:56Speaker 2: at bc OR, it was hard his first year. If
- 5:59Speaker 2: you look back, his numbers weren't great and sometimes it
- 6:04Speaker 2: takes a little while for a bigger guy to adjust.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But now he's just playing with a lot of confidence.
- 6:09Speaker 2: He's always been a good hockey player. He's just now
- 6:12Speaker 2: the puck's been going in for him and he's playing
- 6:14Speaker 2: with a lot of confidence. So and at that size,
- 6:17Speaker 2: he's hard to handle, especially in front of the net.
- 6:21Speaker 6: Thank you, Sure, all right, Randy will go you next.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Thank you, Colin. Good morning, coach. How you doing today.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm great, Randy yourself, I'm.
- 6:30Speaker 8: Great looking forward to this weekend. You referenced them winning
- 6:34Speaker 8: the bean pot. You won Connecticut ice and I know
- 6:37Speaker 8: it was Jerry Yorke, right, they used to call this
- 6:39Speaker 8: championship or trophy season. Did you feel that you've gotten
- 6:44Speaker 8: a lift from that in the three games that followed
- 6:46Speaker 8: in Hockey East? And how does you know getting into
- 6:51Speaker 8: this time a season and actually winning that trophy helped
- 6:54Speaker 8: propel a team here in the month of February.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it certainly helps. And we've been on
- 6:59Speaker 2: the other side of it too, where you've lost, and
- 7:01Speaker 2: it can help because you learn from it and when
- 7:04Speaker 2: you get into that situation again, you know the things
- 7:06Speaker 2: that are important and what you have to do to
- 7:09Speaker 2: win those games. But there's no question in the fact
- 7:12Speaker 2: that you know we want it and we beat a
- 7:15Speaker 2: really tough opponent to win it, that it does help
- 7:20Speaker 2: It gives you confidence going into games knowing that you
- 7:23Speaker 2: can beat, you know, the seventh ranked team in the
- 7:25Speaker 2: country to win a tournament. So from that standpoint, I
- 7:30Speaker 2: think it helps. But it's going to have no bearing
- 7:32Speaker 2: on what happens this weekend. It's going to be what
- 7:35Speaker 2: team executes and what team plays better this weekend is
- 7:38Speaker 2: gonna that's what's going to determine who wins and who loses.
- 7:42Speaker 8: You know, we have talked about Joey a little bit
- 7:45Speaker 8: and Tattle and Rashard, but all year you've balanced those
- 7:51Speaker 8: four those four lines. How important is the balance at
- 7:55Speaker 8: this time of year, especially with a two game series
- 7:58Speaker 8: and the kind of speed that you expect to be
- 8:00Speaker 8: played between these two teams.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but the way we play it's very important.
- 8:04Speaker 6: You know.
- 8:04Speaker 2: We play pretty up tempo type style of play, Like
- 8:12Speaker 2: we're we're an up tempo team. We're gonna skate and
- 8:15Speaker 2: we're gonna get after you. And if you're going to
- 8:17Speaker 2: play that way, you know, you got to be able
- 8:20Speaker 2: to play four lines. If you want to play that
- 8:22Speaker 2: way effective effectively, I should say, uh, if you want
- 8:26Speaker 2: to sit back and trap, you know, and play in
- 8:28Speaker 2: oh five and not four, check you don't have to
- 8:31Speaker 2: play four lines, probably, but that's not how we play.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We're going to get up and down the ice, just
- 8:35Speaker 2: like you know, watching BC, they do the same thing.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So it's going to be very important that all four
- 8:41Speaker 2: of our lines are going this weekend.
- 8:43Speaker 8: And as far as music, I mean, obviously he's had
- 8:47Speaker 8: a great stretch here with the two shutouts and fifty
- 8:50Speaker 8: saves Saturday night winning the shootout. Is that beyond just
- 8:55Speaker 8: being the starter and the comfort, is there anything technically
- 8:59Speaker 8: that he doing in his goaltending style that has allowed
- 9:02Speaker 8: him to take it to the next level this year?
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think, you know, he and Alex Westland have a
- 9:09Speaker 2: great rapport. I think that he's probably a little more
- 9:15Speaker 2: efficient right now with his movements. And again he's playing
- 9:22Speaker 2: with a lot of confidence. He trusts his style, you
- 9:29Speaker 2: know he right now he's making the first save and
- 9:33Speaker 2: he's doing a pretty good job controlling rebounds and making
- 9:37Speaker 2: sure that they go to a corner or they're not
- 9:40Speaker 2: put in a dangerous area. So and we're trying to
- 9:45Speaker 2: play good defense in front of him.
- 9:47Speaker 8: All right, thank you very much?
- 9:49Speaker 6: Sure, all right, Eric will head over to you, Hey, calv.
- 9:54Speaker 5: How are you.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I'm good Eric saw Good.
- 9:57Speaker 9: It's hard to believe this is the first time I'm
- 9:59Speaker 9: seeing you, guys, but I'm cla to have you this
- 10:00Speaker 9: week and the next Friday as well, So I'm sorry
- 10:04Speaker 9: if some of this is repetitive for some of the
- 10:06Speaker 9: people on here.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Just following up on the music thing.
- 10:09Speaker 9: What's he like off the ice as a guy in
- 10:12Speaker 9: the in the room and whether it's a leader, just
- 10:14Speaker 9: you know what he's like kind of in the dressing
- 10:16Speaker 9: room with the guys.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he's very quiet, He's not he's not a vocal
- 10:20Speaker 2: type guy. He's extremely well respected and liked in the
- 10:25Speaker 2: locker room for sure, but he's he's he's pretty mild
- 10:30Speaker 2: mannered and easygoing kid.
- 10:35Speaker 9: Going back to the conversation we were having about some of
- 10:38Speaker 9: the big guys, one of the names that gets thrown
- 10:40Speaker 9: up a lot, as well as Tag Thompson and kind
- 10:43Speaker 9: of his growth into the NHL. Obviously I'm asking because
- 10:46Speaker 9: of the Dean thing, but it's not really about that.
- 10:48Speaker 9: What what did you see from Tage when he got
- 10:50Speaker 9: to school and kind of how he same thing kind
- 10:53Speaker 9: of grew into his frame and what he was able
- 10:56Speaker 9: to eventually learn how to do and you know, what
- 10:58Speaker 9: he's doing in the NHL.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think where Tage was different than maybe Dean
- 11:02Speaker 2: Laturno or Brian Boyle was that at the time, you know,
- 11:07Speaker 2: our talent level wasn't what Laturno went into or what
- 11:13Speaker 2: Brian Boyle went into. Like we were pretty good when
- 11:15Speaker 2: Brian Boyle got there, and BC's pretty good. So when
- 11:19Speaker 2: Dean Laturno comes in, they have Ryan Leonard and they
- 11:22Speaker 2: have Pirole and they have Hagen's and you know, he's
- 11:26Speaker 2: going to have to take a back seat to those guys.
- 11:29Speaker 2: When Cage came in, he led the country in power
- 11:32Speaker 2: play goals, Like he was one of our most talented
- 11:35Speaker 2: players at that point where our program was at that time,
- 11:41Speaker 2: So he got thrown into a lot of roles that
- 11:44Speaker 2: probably those guys didn't at that age. And that's maybe
- 11:48Speaker 2: why he, you know, burst onto the college hockey scene
- 11:52Speaker 2: his freshman year. But now you watch him. We were
- 11:54Speaker 2: just talking about him yesterday, like he's a much better
- 11:58Speaker 2: skater today than he was with us, And probably a
- 12:01Speaker 2: lot of that has to do with just strength. He
- 12:04Speaker 2: was still a kind of like skinny, and he hadn't
- 12:10Speaker 2: grown into his body, and he had he didn't have
- 12:12Speaker 2: the man strength he has now. But when you watch
- 12:14Speaker 2: him skate now, he's he's a powerful skater.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Mm hmmm.
- 12:21Speaker 9: I'm sure you've talked about him plenty, but can can
- 12:23Speaker 9: you just talk a little bit about Tattle and kind
- 12:25Speaker 9: of his growth through your time with him and then
- 12:28Speaker 9: especially recently here he's been on a pretty impressive run.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he's uh, you know a lot of people know
- 12:35Speaker 2: his story. He's a finalist for the Humanitarian Award. You know,
- 12:38Speaker 2: he gets here in two months into his college experience,
- 12:42Speaker 2: his mom passes away, you know, and that was really
- 12:46Speaker 2: tough for him his freshman year, and you know, he
- 12:49Speaker 2: came back his sophomore year. He started slow, but about
- 12:52Speaker 2: halfway through his sophomore year he started becoming a really
- 12:55Speaker 2: good player for US. And then he had a great
- 12:59Speaker 2: junior year. I think he had seventeen goals last year
- 13:03Speaker 2: and he's just picked up where he left off. But
- 13:05Speaker 2: he's an amazing kid. What he does off the ice
- 13:08Speaker 2: to raise money for cancer has been incredible, and he
- 13:12Speaker 2: does that all by himself.
- 13:15Speaker 6: You know.
- 13:16Speaker 2: And what I've really been liked about him this year
- 13:20Speaker 2: was he was prone to take some ill timed penalties.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Let's just say, or retaliatory penalties, and he's really cleaned
- 13:31Speaker 2: that up. He's made a conscious effort to just play
- 13:36Speaker 2: hockey and not get not focus on the extracurricular activities
- 13:41Speaker 2: that go on during a game.
- 13:43Speaker 5: M gotcha perfect.
- 13:47Speaker 9: What about the jump that Murtag's taken this year and
- 13:50Speaker 9: kind of being a really key guy. You know, obviously
- 13:54Speaker 9: there's that second year jump that you hope everybody makes,
- 13:57Speaker 9: not everybody does, but what's kind of been the biggest
- 13:59Speaker 9: thing for him to be able to do that?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he you know, I've talked about this a little
- 14:04Speaker 2: bit this year. It doesn't surprise me because he was
- 14:07Speaker 2: a really good player last year. I was watching in
- 14:10Speaker 2: practice last year and thinking, this kid's going to be
- 14:14Speaker 2: a really good player for us. We just had a
- 14:16Speaker 2: very good team and he was our thirteenth forward, so
- 14:21Speaker 2: he didn't see as much ice time as he you know,
- 14:25Speaker 2: has been seeing this year. But now you're watching him,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you know, kind of metamorphous into a great penalty killer,
- 14:33Speaker 2: hard nosed kid who can take face offs. And that
- 14:38Speaker 2: line played extremely well for us this past weekend. That Gardula,
- 14:42Speaker 2: Murtag and Whitcomb line, they were really good up at Maine.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Two more for me.
- 14:50Speaker 9: Is there anyone that you feel like you don't get
- 14:52Speaker 9: asked about as much or kind of a little more
- 14:54Speaker 9: under the radar, whether it's what they've done recently or
- 14:57Speaker 9: all year long, that you feel like has been really
- 14:59Speaker 9: crucial that we can try to highlight these next couple.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Tomasinio. You know, he's a senior defenseman.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Uh you know, for my money, he's one of the
- 15:08Speaker 2: top defensive defensemen in the league. He gets he gets
- 15:13Speaker 2: the best players just about every night we put him
- 15:15Speaker 2: to play him up against those guys, and he's just
- 15:17Speaker 2: been a really steady defender for us back there, and
- 15:22Speaker 2: he doesn't get a lot of the accolades that maybe
- 15:24Speaker 2: some of the others get, Like everybody's Vikings having a
- 15:28Speaker 2: great year for us, and he's six six, so everybody
- 15:30Speaker 2: notices him. And you know, Kai and Trey Scott are
- 15:33Speaker 2: on the power plays. And I think Anthony Simacki's having
- 15:36Speaker 2: a fantastic year as a freshman, and so is Brendan Dunfie.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But but mess is really a solid, solid guy back
- 15:45Speaker 2: there for us, and he has been for a few
- 15:47Speaker 2: years now.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Mm. And then just the last thing is what you've
- 15:51Speaker 5: seen out of your power play.
- 15:52Speaker 9: I know you got one on Saturday, but just kind
- 15:54Speaker 9: of what you've seen out of that group the last
- 15:55Speaker 9: couple of games.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they've been very consistent. I still don't
- 15:59Speaker 2: think we've seen there yet. I think it's not like
- 16:05Speaker 2: we don't take a lot of penalties, and it feels
- 16:07Speaker 2: like in a lot of the games we play, we
- 16:09Speaker 2: don't get a lot of power plays either. I can't
- 16:11Speaker 2: tell you the last game where we had six or
- 16:13Speaker 2: seven to eight penalty, you know, power plays.
- 16:15Speaker 4: It just.
- 16:18Speaker 2: It just doesn't happen really that much anymore. And I
- 16:22Speaker 2: think that they've been and that's how you can kind
- 16:26Speaker 2: of get into a groove. You get hot, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 2: on a power play, but when you keep getting opportunities.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But when you're getting two maybe three opportunities a game,
- 16:34Speaker 2: and sometimes one of them's cut short because it's you know,
- 16:37Speaker 2: only a minute, it's hard sometimes to to get hot
- 16:43Speaker 2: and find a groove. So but I have I've really
- 16:47Speaker 2: liked our power play. I think we're twenty percent or so,
- 16:51Speaker 2: and we got a big goal. They got us a
- 16:53Speaker 2: big goal the other night up at Maine, so it's
- 16:56Speaker 2: kind of special. Teams is always important, especially in the
- 16:59Speaker 2: playoff us.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Thanks Kav, appreciate it.
- 17:03Speaker 6: Sure, all right, Britchet, we'll go over to you.
- 17:07Speaker 10: Go check in morning. I wanted to jump off some
- 17:11Speaker 10: of the Olympics stuff that Eric was, you know, mentioning,
- 17:14Speaker 10: mentioning Tje Thompson. But I also I'm sure you watch it.
- 17:18Speaker 10: You're watching him and this next like new phase of
- 17:21Speaker 10: his career where he's he's playing in his first Olympics.
- 17:25Speaker 10: Just was wondering, what, you know, have you been watching
- 17:28Speaker 10: a lot of the games, you know, and how proud
- 17:31Speaker 10: are you that he goes through not making the four
- 17:35Speaker 10: Nations team to now being an impactful player for TA.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, of course we have a sense of pride here
- 17:43Speaker 2: because he played here at Yukon and he was one
- 17:45Speaker 2: of our you know, first real how superstars if you
- 17:51Speaker 2: will to make it into the National Hockey League, and
- 17:55Speaker 2: you know, when you're on the Olympic team, you're one
- 17:59Speaker 2: of the best player in the world, your best thirty
- 18:01Speaker 2: players in the world. So we're very proud of him.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I haven't had a chance to watch like a whole lot.
- 18:09Speaker 2: It feels like the games are coming on at a
- 18:12Speaker 2: time where we have practice or I have something going
- 18:15Speaker 2: on at three o'clock, but I've been trying to watch
- 18:17Speaker 2: as much as I can. I'm hoping that there's a
- 18:22Speaker 2: US Canada game Sunday morning at eight. I'll be dialed
- 18:25Speaker 2: into that if there's one of those.
- 18:27Speaker 10: Yeah. Same And Eric brought up, you know, the comp
- 18:33Speaker 10: from Laturno to Thompson based off when we interviewed Dean
- 18:37Speaker 10: Laturno earlier this season. He brought up Tage as a
- 18:40Speaker 10: role model for him. And he's not the only one
- 18:44Speaker 10: that we've talked to this season or heard from the
- 18:46Speaker 10: season that are in college that us Tage as kind
- 18:49Speaker 10: of like a model of what they want to do.
- 18:52Speaker 10: What is it about Tage's game that makes him somebody
- 18:56Speaker 10: that people at this level look up to?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think it's only natural. I don't
- 19:04Speaker 2: know Dean Laterno, but you know, he's six seven. I
- 19:07Speaker 2: believe in those Tage, So right away, there's that comparison,
- 19:11Speaker 2: right that's who he's gonna look to because that's a
- 19:13Speaker 2: player of similar stature and he's made it in the
- 19:16Speaker 2: NHL and what has he done to make it so
- 19:18Speaker 2: you're gonna emulate those qualities. I think what separates Tage
- 19:23Speaker 2: from a lot. Is his shot like that is an
- 19:26Speaker 2: elite shot, and not many guys can shoot a puck
- 19:31Speaker 2: like that, you know, And I think of those types
- 19:34Speaker 2: of shots, like for me, it's you know, Ovatchkin or
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm dating myself here, but like Ally Afradi or somebody
- 19:41Speaker 2: who can really rip the puck, and Tage has one
- 19:45Speaker 2: of those elite shots, it's got to be one of
- 19:47Speaker 2: the top five in the in the league. I would think.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That's it for me.
- 19:54Speaker 6: Thank you, Andrew go ahead.
- 19:59Speaker 11: He can't kind of touched upon this already, but we
- 20:02Speaker 11: hear all the time about games in October being just
- 20:05Speaker 11: as important as games later in the season. But given
- 20:08Speaker 11: you know, the win and ct Ice and then taking
- 20:11Speaker 11: five or six against Main last weekend and this really
- 20:15Speaker 11: pivotal series come up against BC, you do you feel
- 20:20Speaker 11: and do you think the players feel the intensity ratcheting
- 20:22Speaker 11: up a little bit? Is this starting to feel like
- 20:24Speaker 11: playoff hockey a little bit?
- 20:26Speaker 2: There's no question the games in October, you know, for
- 20:30Speaker 2: the NPI mean as much, they don't mean they're not
- 20:35Speaker 2: as the intensity of those games are not what games
- 20:42Speaker 2: are in February and March. I like, it's just not
- 20:45Speaker 2: you know, because if we're playing in October, if we
- 20:49Speaker 2: were having this series October twenty fifth and twenty six,
- 20:53Speaker 2: we don't know where we stand in the league. Like
- 20:55Speaker 2: we haven't played many league games, you know, there's so
- 20:57Speaker 2: much of the season left to play. No matter what happens,
- 21:00Speaker 2: it's not gonna you can recover from it. You feel like,
- 21:04Speaker 2: you know, it's just now you know we're both right there,
- 21:09Speaker 2: you know, battling for a league title, we're both battling
- 21:13Speaker 2: for the NCAA tournament. There's a lot of at stake
- 21:17Speaker 2: in these games, and the intensity is going to be
- 21:20Speaker 2: higher than it would be in October, no question about it.
- 21:24Speaker 11: And obviously you know this is a new season, but
- 21:26Speaker 11: it just was wondering how much of what you went
- 21:31Speaker 11: through last year at this time, that role that you
- 21:33Speaker 11: kind of got on carrying some momentum. How much does
- 21:35Speaker 11: that help as you guys go forward this season.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think it gives our our players that
- 21:42Speaker 2: went through that have the confidence now because they've gone
- 21:46Speaker 2: through it once that they know they're capable of doing
- 21:49Speaker 2: it again. And I think that's the best part about
- 21:54Speaker 2: going as far as we did last year that now
- 21:58Speaker 2: you believe that you can do it again. When you're
- 22:00Speaker 2: doing it for the first time, you're not sure whether
- 22:02Speaker 2: you can do it, whether you you can talk about
- 22:04Speaker 2: it and say, yeah, we can get there, we can
- 22:06Speaker 2: win this, we can do that, but until you actually
- 22:09Speaker 2: do it. I think now you have the true belief that, yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 2: we can win these games, and we have a chance
- 22:16Speaker 2: to win a regular season title, and we have a
- 22:18Speaker 2: chance to win the Lamarillo Cup, and you know we're
- 22:22Speaker 2: a team that we're a post away from going to
- 22:24Speaker 2: a frozen four. We can get there. So I think
- 22:28Speaker 2: there's true. What it does is it gives you true,
- 22:31Speaker 2: honest belief that you can get back there.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Eric, go ahead, Just a quick one following up on that.
- 22:39Speaker 9: One of the things we talked a lot about last
- 22:41Speaker 9: year down the stretch was how you were not shying
- 22:44Speaker 9: away from the pairwise conversation and how you were posting
- 22:47Speaker 9: it because you talked about wanting to manifest it. Are
- 22:50Speaker 9: you doing similar this not the pairwise rest and peace,
- 22:53Speaker 9: but are you doing similar this year with the NPI?
- 22:56Speaker 9: Is it different because now you have the senior leadership
- 22:59Speaker 9: that's kind of gone through it that maybe you don't
- 23:01Speaker 9: have to have that conversation as much. How is that
- 23:04Speaker 9: different kind of in not year two, but this year
- 23:07Speaker 9: following up what you did last year.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great question, because I was struggling with it.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I did start posting it, and then I thought maybe
- 23:15Speaker 2: that I was putting pressure on our players, undue pressure.
- 23:20Speaker 2: And I had asked taber Heaslip. I said, I don't
- 23:23Speaker 2: need to post this if you don't want me to.
- 23:26Speaker 2: He said, absolutely not, Coach, keep posting it. We want
- 23:28Speaker 2: to look at that every week. So the players are
- 23:31Speaker 2: the ones that requested it this year, and it's I
- 23:36Speaker 2: think it's great that they are the ones that want it.
- 23:38Speaker 2: They are the ones that want to look at it
- 23:41Speaker 2: and know where they stand. So to answer your question, yes,
- 23:46Speaker 2: we're still doing it and we're still talking about it.
- 23:48Speaker 5: I'm glad. I'm not the only one looking at it
- 23:50Speaker 5: every week.
- 23:50Speaker 6: So good.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I don't look it till that January, though, I don't
- 23:56Speaker 2: look at anything till January. Thanks keV.
- 24:01Speaker 8: Just one more from me, And I know the focus
- 24:04Speaker 8: is all on Friday, but I only ask because Joe
- 24:06Speaker 8: and I are doing the game on Saturday. There seems
- 24:08Speaker 8: to be real potential for a very big crowd on
- 24:11Speaker 8: Saturday in Hartford and just your thoughts on the opportunity
- 24:16Speaker 8: to put your brand a hockey in front of the state,
- 24:18Speaker 8: maybe people that haven't seen Yukon hockey or are just
- 24:21Speaker 8: getting into the program over the last few years.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I think it's great. You know, I've been told I
- 24:28Speaker 2: think the largest crowd we've had was last year of Providence.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I think we had eleven thousand for that game, and
- 24:36Speaker 2: this year, I think we're going to surpass that number,
- 24:38Speaker 2: which is going to be phenomenal. It'll be an electric
- 24:42Speaker 2: atmosphere at People's Bank. We haven't played very well there,
- 24:46Speaker 2: so I'd like to turn that around this season or
- 24:50Speaker 2: our results, I should say this, our results haven't been
- 24:52Speaker 2: very good there. We necessarily haven't played poorly, but we
- 24:57Speaker 2: just haven't got the results we've wanted. So I mean, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 2: it'll be great, But right now I'm just kind of
- 25:03Speaker 2: focused on Friday up at CONTI thank you.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I couldn't figure out how to use the hand emoji,
- 25:11Speaker 3: so I'm just raising my hand.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Go ahead, Bob, go ahead, Thanks Hey.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Mike, how you doing?
- 25:16Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 25:17Speaker 3: Wonderful things. There's been a lot of really great questions,
- 25:21Speaker 3: which well most of mine, I'm not gonna say, I
- 25:23Speaker 3: had great questions, but the one thing that I'm curious
- 25:25Speaker 3: about is the three keys to beating BC on on
- 25:29Speaker 3: Friday night.
- 25:30Speaker 2: From your perspective, well, I wish it was just three.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Feel free to give him, give me as many as
- 25:35Speaker 3: you'd like.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I think. I think Bob, like I said earlier, we
- 25:40Speaker 2: have to stay out of the penalty box. You know,
- 25:44Speaker 2: that's for sure, just because their power plays so uh good.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I think, you know, I know, I got a BC guy,
- 25:51Speaker 2: Russ Kenny here. He's probably gonna running back to Brownie
- 25:54Speaker 2: with all this anyway, but uh yeah, he's he's on
- 25:57Speaker 2: conference call here. Just stay away from Malowney. Don't give
- 26:03Speaker 2: any of this stuff to Malowney. I would say, we
- 26:07Speaker 2: don't want to make it a track meet, you know, uh,
- 26:11Speaker 2: you know, if we're trading chances up and down, and
- 26:14Speaker 2: I said this last week, if we're giving up fifty
- 26:16Speaker 2: shots to b C like we did last week to Maine,
- 26:19Speaker 2: it's gonna be a very hard game to win. So
- 26:22Speaker 2: we certainly don't want to make it a track meet,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and we're gonna have to manage the puck. Well, I
- 26:27Speaker 2: think they're one of the best teams that when you
- 26:29Speaker 2: turn the puck over in the neutral zone, or if
- 26:31Speaker 2: you turn the puck over at the offensive blue line,
- 26:34Speaker 2: it's coming back at you quick and it's probably gonna
- 26:37Speaker 2: lead to an odd man rush and that's never a
- 26:39Speaker 2: recipe for success.
- 26:41Speaker 3: So that's a really good point that you brought up
- 26:43Speaker 3: about a track meet. But yet you said that plays
- 26:46Speaker 3: to your strength. So you're gonna have to play. So
- 26:48Speaker 3: you're gonna basically have to play really good transition.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah, what I'm saying is, no, we play up tempo
- 26:56Speaker 2: and we're gonna for check hard. You know, we not
- 27:00Speaker 2: gonna trap. We're gonna come at them. Uh and they
- 27:02Speaker 2: know that. But there's a difference between playing that way
- 27:06Speaker 2: and then trading chances, gotcha. And so you know we
- 27:11Speaker 2: want to play. We want to I mean, our style
- 27:15Speaker 2: of hockey is we're going to pressure you in all
- 27:16Speaker 2: three zones. We're not going to sit back. That being said,
- 27:23Speaker 2: you know, I don't want to come down, have a
- 27:25Speaker 2: scoring chance and have a turnaround and come back and
- 27:28Speaker 2: you know, trade one the other way. So multiple shots
- 27:31Speaker 2: shifts is a better recipe for us in the offensive
- 27:34Speaker 2: zone than one and done.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Yeah, So you talk about playing, you don't want it
- 27:38Speaker 3: to be a loose game you want it to be,
- 27:40Speaker 3: you know, basically a game that's controlled based on the
- 27:42Speaker 3: way you want to play. Correct, Got it great, Thank
- 27:45Speaker 3: you so much. Appreciate it. Thanks for the time too.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Sure.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Anything else for coach guys? Awesome, all right, coach, thanks
- 27:54Speaker 6: for jumping on a day.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Great to see.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Thanks Okay to m.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Awesome, Thanks guys, Thanks Colin, thank you very much.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Calling se
