- 0:47slash Radio Detectives. We're gonna do some start doing something a little different
- 0:52on the program, and that is letting you know about the articles that I
- 0:58post over a Great Detective dot net. Because we've post articles on mysteries,
- 1:02old time radio and television. I think it's the type of thing that listeners
- 1:06will be interested in. Ideally, we're going to do this on Saturdays,
- 1:11but this time we're doing it on Monday. Just week because I forgot.
- 1:15So what do we have? Two articles? One posted on Saturday, one
- 1:21posted on Sunday. In our Saturday article, we took a look continued the
- 1:27series of our countdown of the top twenty five greatest Dragnet stories from all eras
- 1:37from the nineteen forties to the seventies, and that one is available at Great
- 1:44Detectives dot net as well. We continued another countdown of radio's most essential people
- 1:51and this week We did number eighteen and number seventeen, so you can read
- 1:56those at Great Detectives dot net. If you subscribe have a kindle, you
- 2:00can have those automatically delivered to your Kindle device through the Amazon Storm. But
- 2:07now it's time to get into today's adventure of Frank Race. This one is
- 2:12the Adventure of the Runway Queen, The Adventures of Frank Race, starring Paul
- 2:19Dubove. The War changed many things, the face of the earth and the
- 2:30people on it. Before the war, Frank Race worked as an attorney,
- 2:36but he traded his lawbooks for the Cloak and Dagger of the Oss and when
- 2:39it was over, his former life was over too. Adventure had become his
- 2:44business, The Adventures of Frank Race. Now we joined Frank Race for the
- 3:08Adventure of the Runway Queen. Usually of insane asylum comes equipped with barred windows
- 3:20and men in white jackets, but there's one in New York that runs wide
- 3:23open. It's a simple building in the heart of the theatrical district on forty
- 3:27six near Broadway, and from the outside it looks like any other office building.
- 3:30It houses talent agents, music publishers, show producers, and theater hopeels
- 3:35who rent rehearsal rooms by the hour, And once you get in cyber place,
- 3:38you'll be inclined to say, as Mark Donovan did, only cow a
- 3:51madhouse, just the place for a nice, RESTful vacation. I wish had
- 3:54Dame would take a vacation nobody had take cass. If I had a voice
- 3:59like that, I would very gladly close the door for the sake of humanity.
- 4:01She is rather uninhibited. Oh, brother, get a load of this
- 4:05coming down the hall. What's that thing on his shoulder? Looks like a
- 4:08trained pigeon, probably part of a rack. Hey, that's an act.
- 4:11Could lay an egg anytime. For that, you could get as split weak
- 4:15as a comedian on the Bowery Circuit. Oh, I forgot to ask what
- 4:17are we doing here? I'm not sure. Man named Barney Lang dropped me
- 4:21a note, asked me to come and see him. He's a telenagent man.
- 4:25Maybe he's got a plot for you in Little Women. But then I
- 4:29could get a whole week and of Bownery cycle for that one. You could
- 4:31also encourage sudden nosebleader. He's Lang's place room for eighteen, So let's walls
- 4:36in Hey, sign on the door says closed for the day. Yes,
- 4:42you mentioned that one's letter. Send me a keeping the place. Okay,
- 4:45who bad? He ain't managing a bank, you, Frank Race, Yes,
- 4:51I'm Lang. Let me quickly shut that door. That racket is stick
- 4:55my head over. Take more than the door to drown out that kind of
- 4:58rock. Oh, what do you know? I had to play sound proof.
- 5:01There's usually enough of a racket in't here without having that too. Barney
- 5:05Lang a magic name along Broadway, discoverer of more stars than you can see
- 5:11from Central Park on an average night. He didn't look the part, though.
- 5:15The cigar was clenched between his teeth, he needed a shave, and
- 5:17the suit he wore might have belonged to an unemployed mortician. He also looked
- 5:21as though he might have been drinking his own embombing fluid ges. You're wondering
- 5:25about that key routine, I'm wondering about a lot of things. I had
- 5:28to close up to keep the talent out of here and give us a chance
- 5:30to talk. I didn't want to call in one of them twenty five bucks
- 5:34a day, Private, Eyed Race. This thing I want you to do
- 5:39is kind of touchy. I can start off by telling you that I'm expensive.
- 5:43One of my clients is giving me a headache. I want to find
- 5:46out what goes with her. Her name is Laurie Marlowe. Laurie marlow As
- 5:51eat a damas things in a radio. Bigal would to come and get me
- 5:55pop up pipe. That's right. She gets five thousand dollars a week for
- 5:59that program. Luck Race. I picked this kid up three years ago when
- 6:02she was nothing. She was a stripper and her blesque house, and she
- 6:05sang a song once in a while. I heard something in that voice the
- 6:09other guy's missed. I took her out of the joint, had a train,
- 6:13got her a good deal. I don't want to see her blow up
- 6:15a career. What makes you think she will? I'm coming to that.
- 6:19I got her a picture to her last year, A fat deal. She
- 6:23bounced up the cloud eight when I told her, and then all of a
- 6:27sudden she freezes, no dice temperament. I got so for a while.
- 6:31Then I found something out. It's gonna sound crazy. What is it?
- 6:39Laurie has a funny habit race. She disappears in between radio shows, doesn't
- 6:44show up all week. You can believe this or not. But she spends
- 6:46her time between shows working and blesque five grand a week and ready Mark,
- 6:54there's got to be a reason for that race, and it can't be good
- 6:58all that dough and radio. When she turns down Hollywood, then she takes
- 7:00seventy five a week to strip and some dive. Have you ever asked her
- 7:04why? Once I asked her where she was spending a time, she clammed
- 7:09up. I'm telling you race. She was scared, told me she'd got
- 7:14another agent. If I didn't leave her alone, I'll take the case.
- 7:17Lang. Where is she now? She's dancing in the barleycue review race in
- 7:24Boston. Boston and burlesque they go together like ice cream and mustard, but
- 7:34they do go together. An improper line and a bestseller or a legitimate stage
- 7:40show can lower the band like Clancy lowers the boom. But the bump and
- 7:44grind artists are not banned in Boston. Well here it is the boilycue reviewed
- 7:50theater. Look at him, pictures in the lobby. Good beasts, not
- 7:56all of them. Look at that poster Egypsia queen in a runway. Now
- 8:03that is a dish that is also Laurie Marlow. No wonder lang is curious.
- 8:09I wonderful face is as good as the rest of it. He can't
- 8:11call what a veil? We may find out later. Stage doors open for
- 8:15rehearsal. Let's go in through the alley. Hey, wait, any he
- 8:18just can't walk into the's choice it. Don't they have doorman or something.
- 8:20We have all sorts of insurance company credentials, mark and theaters carry all sorts
- 8:24of insurance. We'll get by. The cubbyhole with a doorman is usually found
- 8:31was empty. We went through and stood in the wings. Egyptia was on
- 8:35stage, and the dance she was doing was enough to make you forget the
- 8:37inadequacies of the pianist and the despairing tone of the dance director as he tried
- 8:43to whip the lumbering chorus into a semblance of unity. Keep in the thin,
- 8:50keep in the step. Wait, Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
- 8:52Cut it, Sam, cut it, Jackie, which is your left
- 8:58foot? You only got a two? Take a choice? What do you
- 9:01want for forty bucks a week? Ginger Rogers, I'm tired. You're tired.
- 9:05Oh break it up, Rudy, We're all tired. You don't need
- 9:09me to finish, do you? Oh no, you're all right, Egypt,
- 9:11Go get dressed. She walked into the wings and came toward us.
- 9:16The piano had stopped, but she carried her own music with her as she
- 9:20moved. And it wasn't burlesque music. This girl was definitely on the symphony
- 9:24side. Oh, I'm sorry I pumped into you. I wasn't looking.
- 9:28That's all right, miss Marlow. What did you call me? You are
- 9:33Laurie Marlow, aren't you? No, No, I'm not. That's not
- 9:37my name. Let me pass, Please let her pass. He stepped out
- 9:43of the shadows near a backdrop. His eyes were an indefinite blue white like
- 9:48skim milk, and the cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth was unlighted.
- 9:52His lips were almost white too. He looked well. He looked like
- 9:56he had finished drinking his own blood, using the cigarette for straw. Addressed
- 10:01EGYPTI I'll cool these stage door, Johnny isn't wait for you, all right,
- 10:05Reel, you came in through the wrong door. The box officers around
- 10:13front. My name is Race. I'm just checking a few. I know
- 10:16who you are. I know who you're working for. I got reasons why
- 10:22you should quit, meaning the gun you're holding in your pocket. The gun
- 10:24says you should go and tell Bonnie Lang to mind his own business. And
- 10:28if I don't, a gun can get awful, nasty. Race. This
- 10:33isn't the time of the place for trouble rebels, so I'll let that pass.
- 10:37But when the time and the place are right, I'm going to take
- 10:39that toy away from you and make you eat it. I'm glad you said
- 10:43that, Race. I'll tell the boys. Then maybe he'll issue me a
- 10:48special hunting license just for you. Rebel had told me two things. One
- 11:03was that he had a boss. The second was that Laurie Marlow was not
- 11:05in control of her own destiny. Mark and I found a cafe around the
- 11:09corner from the theater. Most of the cast wanted in there after the rehearsal
- 11:13broke. We took seats at the couter next to the girl called Jackie.
- 11:18I just want a cup of coffee when you get a chance. Joe,
- 11:22Hello, Hello, had a little trouble at rehearsal, didn't you? Yeah?
- 11:26I always have trouble. Were you there in the wings? I thought
- 11:30you were doing fine. Ah, that Rudy, he's all right. Until
- 11:33Egypt is around. Then he puts on a big act. You'd think he
- 11:37was doing a Hollywood musical. Who's Rudy, Rudy Cassana, the dance director.
- 11:41You saw him. He's over the corner booth there with Millie, one
- 11:43of the girls. Ah, yes, I take it Rudy has a crush
- 11:48on Egypt. He'd better not if he's smart. She's aiming for a bigger
- 11:50moose than him. Hey, that's my date outside. Never mind the coffee,
- 11:56Joe, Well, so long, so long, Jackie? Eh,
- 12:00anything Megan sense yet? Race No. I'd like to find out who the
- 12:03big moose is, though, the one Laurie Marlowe or Egypt is setting her
- 12:07cap for it. You go around a car mark, keep your eye on
- 12:09Laurie Tailor wherever she goes. But don't let rebels sneak up on you.
- 12:13Worry. I'll play it safe. What are you gonna do? I'm gonna
- 12:16make friends and influence people in that corner booth. Go ahead, yeah see
- 12:20Letty. Are you Rudy Cassano? Huh oh, yeah, I'm a Cassano.
- 12:31They didn't I see you backstage a while ago? Yes, I was
- 12:35watching you work. Are you in a business in a way, I'm scouting
- 12:39for Barney Lange. He's got a chance to sell some talent for a big
- 12:41Broadway musical if he can find the right people. Oh, won't you sit
- 12:45down, mister, mister Race, Frank Race. This is Millie Davis.
- 12:48She's in a chorus. Hello, I'm very happy to meet you, mister
- 12:52Race. Of course you don't know it, Cassano, but we've had an
- 12:56eye on you. You and that girly gypsha. Yeah, gee, that's
- 13:00well. Hey, you know I do better work than this. I just
- 13:03took the should temporarily waiting for a break. I understand. How about the
- 13:07girl, Ah, she wouldn't leave here. The rain is much Joe and
- 13:09all Broadway. She could get just by marrying a guy that's after say,
- 13:13I'm a pretty good dancer, mister Race. Egyptia's boyfriend sounds like big money.
- 13:16More than money, mister Race, real big shot family. He's a
- 13:20Henry Brewster Burton, the third Henry Brewster Burton, the third most eligible bachelor
- 13:28in Boston, cream of the social register, and a powerful man in Washington.
- 13:31Laurie Marlow was really moving into the big leagues and doing it the hard
- 13:35way via burlesque runway. It didn't add up. You'd be wasting your time
- 13:39with Egypt, mister race. Besides, I'm a better dancer than she'll ever
- 13:45be. All I need is a break. That's what we all need,
- 13:50just one break. I'll see both of you later. I watched Laurie Marlow,
- 14:05masquerading as a gypsha, do her show at the Burlecue Review that night.
- 14:09She took off everything the law would allow, except the veil that covered
- 14:13the lower half of her face. Mark tailed her from the theater and I
- 14:16went back to the hotel to wait for his report. I was dozing off
- 14:20on a chair when by it me Laurie Marlow. I opened the door and
- 14:31she came in without the veil. Her face looked like it had been done
- 14:35by Michael Angelo on one of his better days. There was something about the
- 14:39lips that made you think of all the kisses you would ever enjoyed, and
- 14:43then made you forget them in the hope of the one you might get.
- 14:46Surprised to see me a little. You weren't very happy with me this afternoon.
- 14:50I was angry with Barney Lyon for sending you. You see, I
- 14:56started out in rolesqueing for some reason. I love it, that's all.
- 15:01So you mix it in with a five thousand a week radio career. You
- 15:03know, sometimes a farm kid makes good in a big town, gets his
- 15:09own swimming pool, But when he gets a chance, he takes off his
- 15:13shoes and goes waiting in a brook. Sometimes that's the way it is with
- 15:18me. You're lying, baby, Why should I lie to you? Raid?
- 15:24Her hands took the lippels in my jacket, and she drifted into my
- 15:26arms. I kissed her and it started bells ringing one of the buildings.
- 15:31I didn't like. It was the phone. Don't answer, Race, I'd
- 15:39better or whoever his ringing might come up? Hello, Hey, Race,
- 15:46it's me, Dame, won't you yes, Mark, I thought so.
- 15:50Rebel drove her rover. I lost them down in a lobby. So keep
- 15:54your eyes open. He's Hannah loose in the building. I get it,
- 15:56I know, you know. Look, blood, he's getting rough, kid.
- 16:00Just hold a news vershon of car Ready on. We got a stiff
- 16:03on our hand. Who is it? We shot and killed in his office
- 16:07earlier this morning? They just found a body. We'll return to the Adventures
- 16:22of Frank Race in just about one minute. Now back to the adventures of
- 16:40Frank Race. I managed to get Laurie Marlowe out of the hotel room,
- 16:49took the backstairs to avoid meeting Rebel and his gun. At that point,
- 16:53Mark and I took a night drive to New York. We got there in
- 16:56the early morning and my key let us in to Barney Lane office. Race.
- 17:03You know something, It would not be good if the cops found us
- 17:07prowling around here and look glausy in stripes. I know, Marcus, but
- 17:11whatever Barney Lange was killed for, it was something he found out after we
- 17:15left him. Yeah, but he ain't going to be telling us now.
- 17:18I want to check his files on Lorie Marlow. They should be in his
- 17:22cabinet. Matter lock. Yes, there's a fire ax just outside the door.
- 17:29Get it, Okay, it's the second drawer. Fire letters h to
- 17:40end. Hit it with the butt end as near to the locker as you
- 17:41can. Please, please, Chump, you are talking to a kid which
- 17:47almost played ball with a Yankee. See what I mean? That did it?
- 17:52The lockers sprung? Yeah, this is the folder Lorie Marlow. See
- 17:59what you can find around here? While I go through this okay. There
- 18:03were some odd conditions in Laurie Morrow's contract with Barney Lange. No personal appearances,
- 18:08no club dates, no publicity pictures released without her approval, no studio
- 18:14audiences permitted, her broadcasts, no television shows. And Mark added to it.
- 18:18Hey, cry, there's a bunch of clippings and pictures in a Morrow
- 18:22dare. Oh how are you good provo with her? I don't know.
- 18:26Why don't you never get a good flash at a faced? Look of them
- 18:30hats would have veility. And this one here all black taken from the side.
- 18:34That's a silhouette. Are they all like that? Yeah? Except this
- 18:38old one here taking down in Mexico, and it looks at the buildings and
- 18:41those big hats. She and a guy with her were it is. No,
- 18:45she's coming with shadows, so is he. For some reason, Mark,
- 18:48this girl can't show her face in public. But the picture does show
- 18:52one thing on her hand, a wedding ring. Yeah, Race, what's
- 18:59behind it? I don't know? Put everything back. I'll go through Lange's
- 19:03desk. Is there anything here that you want me? Can I come in?
- 19:07Oh it's you, mister Race, Yes, Milly, it's me.
- 19:12You're a long way from Boston. Aren't you well? When you told me
- 19:15about mister Lang looking for people, why, I just thought i'd take a
- 19:18plane down and see him myself. Where is he? You want to keep
- 19:22posted on the news, Milly, He's in the county Morgue. Laurie Marlowe
- 19:36was hiding from something. But what All roads were dead ended except the one
- 19:40we hadn't tried, mister Henry Brewster Burton the Third. We returned to Boston
- 19:45to pay a call at the exclusive back bay mansion of the Brewsters, a
- 19:48manage that you'd hardly expect to produce a pursuer of a burlesque queen. Henry
- 19:53the Third received me in the library. I understand you're an investigator, mister
- 19:57Race. Yes, I want some information about a girl you've been seeing?
- 20:02What girl and what sort of information? Egyptian? At the Burlicue Review.
- 20:08Sorry, I will not answer any questions concerning Egypt. Look, Burton,
- 20:12this is important. A man has been murdered. Are you implying that Egypt
- 20:17is involved in it? Very definitely? What kind of a game are you
- 20:21trying to work? No game? I'm looking for information. You have it,
- 20:26I want it. I'm going to ask you very politely to get out
- 20:30of here, unless you'd prefer to have me throw you out. I wouldn't
- 20:34try that if I were you. I was intercollegiate boxing champion for three years.
- 20:38Mister Race, Now get out. You are pretty good, not bad,
- 20:49So let me go. Race. No, I'll hold on to disarmon
- 20:59till you decide a operate And next time you see your college boxing coach,
- 21:02have him explained why you should never be drawn into a right hand lead.
- 21:04All right, you win the fight that doesn't get you the information you want.
- 21:12Stop being a lot and start being practical about your lady love Burton.
- 21:17I've got an idea she's been playing you for a sucker. Believe in being
- 21:22brutally frank, don't you. I'll let you decide for yourself. The girl's
- 21:26been working you for something, hasn't she some kind of favor to be done
- 21:29through your influence? Yes, what kind of a favor? Maybe the key
- 21:34to a murder? Burton. You may help her later if she's involved,
- 21:38but you can't cover for her. The favor was both political and personal.
- 21:44There's a man in the federal penitentiary, her brother. His name is James
- 21:48Marlow. She asked me to use my influence to have him moved from a
- 21:52West Coast prison to one in the east. James Marlow, that's right,
- 21:57James Marlow. The name started Wiel's turning. Convicted a post office robbery and
- 22:03sentenced to twenty years, still had fifteen to go. Does that help any
- 22:07Race? It helps a lot. And I think she was lying to you.
- 22:11I think James Marlow will turn out to be her husband, not her
- 22:15brother. Her husband. Yes, I've an idea that she was married in
- 22:19Mexico. That's why American police couldn't find any record of a marriage when Marlow
- 22:23was tried. But he's been in jail for five years. Race, Yes,
- 22:27Burton, but the eye witnessed. The postal clerk whose testimony convicted him,
- 22:32swore that a girl was with Marlow when the robbery was staged. They
- 22:34went to nextco and got married as a mutual cover up, so neither could
- 22:38be forced to testify against the other if they were caught. I've been taken
- 22:45in, haven't I. Race. It happens to the best of us.
- 22:48But for your sake, I hope you didn't try to arrange that favor.
- 22:52That's the trouble I did. Marlow is on a train right now, being
- 22:57moved east. Then you'd better call your contact in Washington. Have a heavy
- 23:00guard rushed to the train as soon as possible. This is the payoff of
- 23:03a long range plan. Marlow will make a pitch for freedom. They'll try
- 23:08to get him off that train. It was still no solution to the murder
- 23:18of Barney Lang. He had found out some things, that was certain,
- 23:22But how I kept thinking about it as I left Burton's house to join Mark
- 23:26in the car, thinking so hard that I missed Mark's signal. Somebody jammed
- 23:30a gun into my ribs. All right, Nosy, climb into the car.
- 23:34Sorry, Race, I try to catch your eye. All right,
- 23:40start the car, let's move. You're a busy little fellow, aren't you.
- 23:45Rebel? I asked the boys for that license, Like I said,
- 23:48Race, I got him. You ain't gonna like this ride too bad?
- 23:52You had to come along. I just found out why you haven't had more
- 23:56company. What do you mean you look like part of a gang? Rebel?
- 24:00You're the type. But the rest of the boys are meeting the boss,
- 24:03aren't they. James Marlow. They've got to get him off a train.
- 24:07Oh, I know you gotta be cooled. You should have stayed in
- 24:11New York after you went through Lange's office this morning. I kept talking to
- 24:17keep Rebel's mind on me and away from Mark. I didn't know what kind
- 24:19of a play Mark would make, but he was at the wheel and I
- 24:22had a count on him to come up with something. He did. It
- 24:25was a ten ton truck parked in front of a highway diner. He Rebel,
- 24:29I haven't hit a ten ton truck at ninety miles an hour. No,
- 24:32smart guy, you're going a smart guy. Rebel had a natural reaction.
- 24:37He forgot us, leaned on the door handle, and jumped. Look
- 24:38Out, you missed that truck by an inch. Mark, Yeah, yeah,
- 24:48Rebel didn't. He hit it on a fly when he jumped. It
- 24:51won't be enough left of blot up. We better get back to the Burloku
- 24:53review Mark, I've got a hunch of gypshas giving her farewell performance. This
- 24:57evening is Laurie's dressing remark, wait to watch you come, Hello eyes,
- 25:15I've been expecting you. Tired of running, Laurie, Yes, tired.
- 25:22Your husband isn't going to get off that train, baby. The gang will
- 25:26be picked up too. I know Burton called me. It made me feel
- 25:32like, Oh it was Robin. I did it because I had to.
- 25:37Your husband wasn't going to let you enjoy the comforts of life while he wasted
- 25:40the whale in jail. Was he? Yes, he let me take the
- 25:45radio job because he thought it might be able to buy his way out with
- 25:48the money out of a federal ten he was dreaming. I know he had
- 25:53Rebel and the other boys watching me. Gave them mortars to keep me working
- 25:57in burlesque, to make things. It's rough for me, so I don't
- 26:02never forget what a bad time he was having. The only way you could
- 26:06get off was to get him off that by you figured it. If I
- 26:10quit or try to run, he said he'd have me brought in for the
- 26:11post office job. He couldn't testify, but the clerk saw me too.
- 26:17I better call a police. Baby, you don't have to raise I called
- 26:22him myself. Just a way, leave me alone, please? Right?
- 26:30Sure? Well, what's ther matter? Right? I just saw the farewell
- 26:38performance. I didn't enjoy it. Oh here comes Millie. Hello Millie.
- 26:45I was hoping you'd be around. Why I wanted to tell you that your
- 26:48boyfriend, Rebel met with a fatal accident tonight, my boyfriend, you're a
- 26:53right of your mom Oh no, I'm not. He knew I'd been the
- 26:56body Lang's office. That's a bit of information only you could have given him.
- 27:00So sue me Race, who killed Bonnie Lang? Baby? Well,
- 27:06since Rebel's gone, I might as well tell you he did. Can you
- 27:08prove it? I think so. I went down to New York with Rebel.
- 27:12He wanted to see Lange. I waited outside the office. I heard
- 27:17the argument, then I heard the shot. You're a confused baby. You
- 27:21try to sell Lang information. You told him about Laurie's husband and the set
- 27:25up, but he wouldn't stand for a shakedown, so you shot him.
- 27:29I told you my version. I'll stick to your story as a hole in
- 27:33it. You couldn't have heard an argument from outside Lang's office because the office
- 27:37is sound proofing you. Thanks for the gun, Milly. Now we'll take
- 27:44you out to the local jail. They let you strip there, and they'll
- 27:47even let you take a shower. Then they'll give you something simple to wear
- 27:51from now on the Adventures of Frank Race starring Paul Dubov with Tony Barrett as
- 28:11Mark Donovan comes to You from Hollywood. Others heard in tonight's cast were Michael
- 28:15Ann Barrett, Evelyn Scott, Jackie Shields, Tom McKee, and Ken Harvey.
- 28:21This series is written and directed by Buckley Angel and Joel Murcott. The
- 28:25music is composed and played by Ivan Ditmars. Be sure to be with us
- 28:29again this same time next week for another dramatic chapter in the Adventures of Frank
- 28:33Race Art Gilmore speaking. This is a Brucel's production, Welcome Back. This
- 29:14was of course a very unique plot involving a radio queen who also did burlesque
- 29:21in Boston, and of course it sounded very familiar to me, and with
- 29:26good reason, because it had been done on yours truly, Johnny Doller.
- 29:30It was the k Bellamy matter, which would be broadcast about three and a
- 29:34half years later on January thirtieth of nineteen fifty three. Johnny Dollar was of
- 29:41course noted, some might say notorious for reusing old radio scripts, and this,
- 29:49of course would be another case where people took a used radio script adapted
- 29:55it to Johnny Dowler. Probably helped a little since Johnny Dollar wasn't in s
- 30:00investigator. Now we turn to your comments and feedback. Johnston comments regarding episode
- 30:07eight fifty five, The Adventure of the Six Week Cure. This was a
- 30:11pretty progressive story as that it gave, for it's time, a rather sympathetic
- 30:15view of divorces. A good story. I think it was a pretty balanced
- 30:22approach and in some ways a lot more realistic than many of the Hollywood portrayals
- 30:30of divorce at the time. There were some movies, particularly some that would
- 30:36play themselves as comedy, that really played the whole issue of divorce in its
- 30:41consequences in a kind of flippant manner. So this one, I think took
- 30:45the issue as seriously as this very dark and painful thing. But I thought
- 30:52it was a pretty well balanced episode. Doug us as Adam, thanks for
- 30:56the show. I first found your Dragnet podcast, but it started enjoying the
- 31:00Great Detectives podcast as well. It was nice to hear Art Gilmore returned to
- 31:03Frank Race this week after has been gone a couple of weeks. I will
- 31:07miss Dragnet, my favorite, but look forward to its return. Thanks again,
- 31:14and of course Art Gilmore speaking of Dragnet, involved in many Dragnet episodes
- 31:22and even onto Adam twelve, after of course, a long career in radio.
- 31:27It's just amazing to hear the number of programs he announced on, including
- 31:33things like Doctor Christian, which goes all the way back to the nineteen thirties.
- 31:37All right, well that'll do it for today. Join us back here
- 31:38tomorrow for a Life in your Hands and we will be back next Monday another
- 31:44episode of Frank Race and I. Meanwhile, send your comments to Box thirteen
