Okay, so they know what we did this week. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So let's get into it. 00:00:47:02 - 00:00:50:29 MAK All right. We have some project updates. Right? Yes. What do you want to start with? 00:00:51:00 - 00:00:53:23 Courtney So I say. 00:00:53:25 - 00:00:54:29 MAK How about Charlie Leighton? 00:00:55:00 - 00:01:00:04 Courtney Yeah. My gosh. What? It's like we both read it at the same time. Oh. 00:01:00:05 - 00:01:04:01 MAK It is written down there. That's cool. 00:01:04:04 - 00:01:07:02 Courtney Okay, so Charlie Leighton Park. 00:01:07:03 - 00:01:14:04 MAK Yep. It's been a long project, but a pretty incredible results. A lot of cool stuff going on there. 00:01:14:08 - 00:01:20:21 Courtney So they replaced the boat ramps? Yes. They increased boat ramp and car parking spaces. 00:01:20:22 - 00:01:26:20 MAK They reconfigured the parking so that it's a safer route. In and out. 00:01:26:21 - 00:01:27:24 Courtney Would you like the flow of. 00:01:27:24 - 00:01:32:03 MAK The. Access o traffic flow? Traffic flow? That's better terminology. 00:01:32:04 - 00:01:36:21 Courtney They added additional dock and floating docks. 00:01:36:22 - 00:01:40:22 MAK Yes. And what's that walkway called? Just a walkway. 00:01:40:24 - 00:01:43:12 Courtney I would say that's about an additional dock. 00:01:43:14 - 00:01:43:29 MAK Okay. 00:01:44:00 - 00:01:50:01 Courtney I think that's cool. Some pavilions. It really. 00:01:50:03 - 00:01:52:06 MAK Food truck parking area. 00:01:52:07 - 00:01:53:00 Courtney Like hookups, 00:01:53:01 - 00:02:15:28 MAK Hookups, hookups and everything. Hookups? Yes. Also. And green space. Sorry, I just I love that they added a little bit of green space to it. I like that because that was not there, so I like that. Yeah. Also dredged right out in front of the docks and the boat ramps. Yeah. Perfect. Sounds like a fully put together project. 00:02:15:29 - 00:02:36:16 MAK Yep. And we're going to be having an opening. I think we talked about it briefly, but we'll drop it down in the show notes. Yes. Right. Yes. Cool. Okay. Next up. County line bridge. Yes. This is a pretty neat project, and we have been talking about this for a while. This bridge was originally built in the early 70s. 00:02:36:19 - 00:02:47:12 MAK 1974, to be exact. Right when you were in elementary school or not born? Yep. Correct. 00:02:47:12 - 00:02:53:05 Courtney And so this project is going to help with the structure in itself. 00:02:53:06 - 00:02:54:01 MAK Right. Yes. 00:02:54:03 - 00:02:57:19 Courtney But also there realigning it to to be a safer. 00:02:57:21 - 00:03:23:16 MAK I know because like if you're approaching it from the east side, right, there's a pretty big curve. So there's straightening it out. And they're also adding a multimodal pathway attached to the bridge. Right now it's separate. Yes. So anyway there realigning doing a lot of stuff there. Contract has been awarded. We were just out there yesterday looking at it. 00:03:23:16 - 00:03:25:19 MAK And they're getting ready to start this fall. 00:03:25:20 - 00:03:37:12 Courtney That's so exciting. And this is a honestly, this is a very great example of a project that is needed within the community with the help of state and federal dollars. 00:03:37:15 - 00:04:06:07 MAK Yeah, lots of grant funding in there from state and federal. And also I love this because it's a it is a huge collaboration. This is a is a really full community effort that's going into it. Right. So it's really into Cuesta from the Martin County side. Right. But it's it's impacting traffic flow in neighborhoods. So they're talking fire rescue, sheriff's office, school district a lot of village of a Martin County government. 00:04:06:09 - 00:04:08:04 Courtney Different stakeholders in this project. 00:04:08:05 - 00:04:14:24 MAK Yeah. But I love the collaboration that's gone into it. So it's going to be a pretty neat project. Yeah. Waiting for that to get started. 00:04:14:25 - 00:04:28:07 Courtney And then currently we are in Rocky Point doing a neighborhood restoration project. And so this is really replacing installing new stormwater pipes, drainage structures, sidewalks, sidewalks. 00:04:28:09 - 00:04:33:09 MAK Like I love how they do this now because they used to do it like utilities would do their thing. 00:04:33:12 - 00:04:35:06 Courtney Yeah. Different. 00:04:35:08 - 00:04:48:16 MAK And then public works would come in and be like, oh, now we're going to do sidewalks in there. We're going to do whatever drainage. So now they coordinate. I mean, for a long time they've been coordinating. But it's a coordinated effort between all the departments. 00:04:48:17 - 00:04:53:23 Courtney Yeah. Yeah. And it helps with pedestrian safety improvements. Yes it does. 00:04:53:25 - 00:04:54:16 MAK It does. 00:04:54:17 - 00:04:56:28 Courtney And then speaking of utilities. 00:04:57:00 - 00:05:20:00 MAK Septic to sewer conversions. This is a project that was really bored. Board approved, board initiated. Board directed that we have 10,000 subject to sewer conversions or hookups in a ten year period. And I think we have exceeded the 10,000 we have in under our ten years. 00:05:20:00 - 00:05:21:01 Courtney Yes, which is amazing. 00:05:21:02 - 00:05:48:02 MAK Yeah, it's pretty cool. We had 22 prioritized project areas and currently underway is bow River in North. Yep. Jensen Beach, northern end of the county. And I think that's like almost 250 properties that can connect to that. Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah. And I think we're a little over 13,000. And that's what the information says right there. Wow. Yeah. 00:05:48:02 - 00:05:58:16 MAK That's great. I'm glad you wrote that down. So a little over 13,000 connected, which is cool. Good for our good for our utilities. Good for our people. Great for our environment. 00:05:58:18 - 00:06:01:05 Courtney Yeah, it's really a great for our environment. 00:06:01:07 - 00:06:01:21 MAK Yeah. 00:06:01:22 - 00:06:15:05 Courtney Yeah. So we have spoken about this before on our podcast, but we thought we would do a quick little update on the Living Shoreline project happening at Indian Riverside Park. 00:06:15:06 - 00:06:16:25 MAK Can we do a little check in with Jessica? 00:06:16:27 - 00:06:17:04 Courtney Yeah. 00:06:17:04 - 00:06:18:17 MAK Let's go. Okay. 00:06:18:19 - 00:06:43:24 Jessica Garland I'm Jessica Garland, the coastal program manager for Martin County Public Works environmental resources division. We're currently at the Indian Riverside Park in front of the Living Shoreline project that has been going on for the last year. So we're building 24 breakwaters to stabilize the shoreline, and we have 20 out of the 24 breakwaters built. As you can see, they're installing rocks on the last two right here in this location. 00:06:43:25 - 00:07:01:13 Jessica Garland We have not closed any parts of the park except for the small staging area at the north side of the Tuckahoe Mansion. The boardwalk is open. You can see most of the construction going on from the boardwalk, from the pier, from the beach, over by the fountains. It's an interesting day for anybody just wanting to watch how these breakwaters are being built. 00:07:01:13 - 00:07:31:16 Jessica Garland And then in the next few months, you can see the 2000 plants being installed, along with the exotic vegetation removal that will occur before the plants are installed. So all of that is open and everybody is more than welcome to stand here and watch it from the pier and the boardwalk. We're helping nature be nature. It's green infrastructure, so we're stabilizing something to restore it back to what it was and let nature rebuild what was there at one point in time. 00:07:31:18 - 00:07:33:16 MAK Okay. We're back. 00:07:33:18 - 00:07:37:13 Courtney We are back. And thanks so much, Jessica, for that quick update. 00:07:37:15 - 00:07:37:28 MAK I know it. 00:07:37:28 - 00:07:42:29 Courtney Was great living. Shoreline. That's a really great project. Also great for the environment. 00:07:43:00 - 00:07:44:11 MAK Yes. 00:07:44:13 - 00:07:50:00 Courtney And we'll help with our, the. 00:07:50:02 - 00:07:53:12 MAK Shoreline stabilization. I knew what you were talking about. 00:07:53:15 - 00:07:53:25 Courtney Yeah. 00:07:53:27 - 00:07:54:27 MAK Yeah, sure. Line. 00:07:54:28 - 00:07:55:18 Courtney Shoreline. 00:07:55:19 - 00:08:10:05 MAK Yeah. People, you know, a lot of people that's a highly utilized park and a lot of people walk along there. So they've been seeing the efforts just off the shoreline and kind of wondering where we are with it. So that was a good update. 00:08:10:06 - 00:08:14:12 Courtney Yeah. And it also helps take that pressure off of that seawall that's there too. 00:08:14:13 - 00:08:15:05 MAK Yes it does. 00:08:15:06 - 00:08:15:18 Courtney Yeah. 00:08:15:19 - 00:08:19:17 MAK Yeah. That's at the mention of Tuckahoe right. 00:08:19:18 - 00:08:25:01 Courtney It is at the mansion at Tuckahoe. Okay. Yes. Where? I started my time here at the county. 00:08:25:02 - 00:08:28:17 MAK I was just going to say. Did you ever work at the mansion, Courtney? 00:08:28:18 - 00:08:29:08 Courtney Yes. 00:08:29:15 - 00:08:35:22 MAK Yeah. I feel like you. You could walk around those hallways and look like you lived there. 00:08:35:25 - 00:08:38:16 Courtney It's. I honestly, that would be amazing. 00:08:38:19 - 00:08:49:24 MAK It's it's an incredible view. If you guys have not gone, you really should check it out. They have docent led tours. We'll drop the link in the show notes that. Yeah, it's a beautiful. It's just a beautiful. 00:08:49:24 - 00:08:57:01 Courtney Thing to do that you also should do Captain Souls house tours. Yes. I mean, that's also a very. 00:08:57:03 - 00:09:06:13 MAK We do that in our cares class. Yeah. And it's just such an incredible history that we have. And I think, you know, you drive by the spots every day. 00:09:06:14 - 00:09:15:09 Courtney Yeah. And you're not really, like, thinking about it. Yes. But you're able to do the tours. Definitely do it because it does give you a better understanding. 00:09:15:09 - 00:09:16:20 MAK It's a whole different perspective. 00:09:16:21 - 00:09:19:00 Courtney Yeah. It does give you a different perspective. And there's. 00:09:19:00 - 00:09:26:17 MAK All these little places just kind of tucked into little place pockets in our community that are just just so full of history. 00:09:26:19 - 00:09:28:22 Courtney Yes. Yeah I agree. 00:09:28:23 - 00:09:30:09 MAK Okay. 00:09:30:11 - 00:09:31:05 Courtney 00:09:31:08 - 00:09:41:11 MAK Moving on. Moving on. Yep. We have two September 11th events coming up. And both of them, I think, really incredible to be a part of. 00:09:41:18 - 00:09:57:21 Courtney Yes. The first one is the Memorial Bridge walk, which they start at Jock Leighton Park. There's an opening ceremony that begins at 830 and then the bridge walk. And this is, a lot of different. 00:09:57:22 - 00:10:15:19 MAK Yeah. It's a it's happening. Yeah, it's a great community event. Martin county fire rescue, firefighters, Martin County Sheriff's Office, school district is involved. I think they do a excused absence for students who want to participate. So it's it's really a lovely event. 00:10:15:21 - 00:10:23:07 Courtney It is. And then later that night there we have our nine over 11 memorial tribute ceremony. 00:10:23:10 - 00:10:26:17 MAK That's on the grounds of the Peter and Julie Cummings Library. 00:10:26:17 - 00:10:33:20 Courtney In Palm City. Right. And that's at 7 p.m.. There'll be guest speakers, bagpipers and a candle. 00:10:33:26 - 00:10:48:02 MAK It's a pretty, you know, touching doesn't really seem to heartfelt. Yeah. It's a very heartfelt event. Yes, it's we've been there for quite a few years and it's a it's a great community opportunity to just gather, remember. 00:10:48:03 - 00:10:52:28 Courtney Yes. So that is all that we have. 00:10:52:29 - 00:11:00:28 MAK That's it. We do have some events we're putting down in the show notes, of course. Yes. Things that are coming up and I don't know, we'll see you guys next week. 00:11:00:29 - 00:11:07:20 Courtney Yeah. Thank you guys for joining us. Don't forget to like follow subscribe.
