- speaker-0: Look, I understand AI will probably do all the algebra that you need to do because you're not going to be an engineer, and that's fine. But because algebra is difficult for you, the the the transferable skill from here is you training your brain to do something your brain's not good at. very nature of whom how homeschooling works is precisely designed to train people for the kind of economy they're going to move into. And I don't care what job they're in, ⁓ AI and technology is gonna disrupt every industry. And they're gonna need people that go, okay, I need to learn something new. I need to learn it quickly, I need to apply it to this problem. And that's exactly what homeschool students know how to do because mom and dad didn't know how to teach every subject. And so especially through high school, they were on their own having to figure things out. There's this idea that like, ⁓ there's all these gaps. I bad news. I'm post forty now and there's still a lot of gaps. Good news so far, still doing okay. speaker-1: I know. Yeah. No, it's so true. You know, ⁓ there is an author that I really like. His name's Jim Quick, and he had a traumatic brain injury. And he talks about how, you know, just how his brain healed. He's he's not a believer. It's a secular book that he wrote. I've I I think his book is called Limitless. ⁓ but I had my kids listen to it. It's a fascinating story to hear his journey. But one of things he points out is that what we are lacking in every single institution out there that's supposed to be teaching us. is no one teaches kids to learn how to learn. And that's exactly what we're talking about, is that kids need to learn how to learn. What don't you know and how do you solve that? speaker-0: Well, and and we call it QEMCI for quickly and effectively mastering complicated information, which is just a fancy way to learn how to learn, right? Yeah. And so so here's the part that that is so important about that is that now when your kid comes to you and say, Why do I need to know algebra? Like I'm never gonna use algebra. Why do I need to know that Napoleon lost at Waterloo and why? Okay. There there's some cultural context that's important, right? But is it important that you know it forever and memorize it? ⁓ probably not, probably never has been. But but here's the thing that I think is interesting and can and can really push some some purpose into everything you're learning. Let's pick something you don't like. For me, it would have been algebra. So hey kid, you don't like algebra. And you say, What'd have to learn this? Look, I understand AI will probably do all the algebra that you need to do because you're not going to be an engineer, and that's fine. But because algebra is difficult for you, the the the transferable skill from here is you training your brain to do something your brain's not good at. And I don't care if you remember anything about algebra in two years. What I need you to understand is that algebra is the foil that you're going to use to master learning. And the more you don't like it, the better it is because of the challenge. And that's the transferable skill. If you forget everything we did in two years, that's okay. Because because what we needed to teach you in how in mastering math is we needed you to be able to understand all this because you can take that system of learning and apply it again and again and again to a world that's going to constantly disrupted by. technology. And so you're going to constantly have to go through that process of learning and relearning new things. And now everything is infused with purpose in terms of your homeschool curriculum because everything, including the stuff and maybe especially stuff you look you don't like as well, is there to act as a exercise, as a strength building exercise for you to know how to learn, to to do QMCI to quickly and effectively master complicated information. speaker-1: I love that. I like your acronym too. Your your ⁓ but yeah, that is so important. And you know, I I feel like as homeschool parents, we get to model that because I get to relearn algebra, geometry, and algebra too constantly. And so the joke in the family is I'm like, I am a math genius. 'Cause like I get speaker-0: Because you've done it four times, right? speaker-1: But like I'll forget it and I have to go back and learn. And so they're watching me like look it up and figure it out. I'll go and watch their math video and then come back and like look at the teacher book. And so they're seeing how I do it. And I actually, as they get into high school, I tell them to do that. Like, you know, let's figure out how it is. Like I can try to figure it out again, but let's see if can you figure it out? So I love that. I love because I always say that we learn math because God is logical and you know, and so we are learning logic. But I really like the the the Twist on that and the tweak of that of you know like we have to learn to do complicated things and sometimes our brain has to figure out a problem and that's what we're learning.
