- 0:00Speaker 1: A Red River Rivalry. That's why I said you say
- 0:04it slowly. Red River Rivalry week and Thursday of that week.
- 0:10We are just over forty eight hours from kickoff of
- 0:16the one hundred and twentieth edition of the Red River Rivalry.
- 0:20Good afternoon, everybody, Welcome to the program here on Sports
- 0:22RADIOAM thirteen hundred the Zone. My name is Craig Way.
- 0:25I do thank you very much for joining us. Please
- 0:27to be joined as always by the producer of this program,
- 0:30Cameron D. Parker. The D on the birth certificate stands
- 0:33for Dallas, as in his favorite pro football team that
- 0:36he refuses to watch, even though he has an opportunity
- 0:39to watch them locally this weekend. If he hung out
- 0:42an extra day up there in the Metroplex, he could
- 0:45go see the Cowboys and Lions on Sunday. He has
- 0:49no desire to do that. So, therefore, what does the
- 0:52D stand for this weekend? Or it stands for today
- 0:56departure day?
- 0:58Speaker 2: That or deep fried and it'll stand for deep fry
- 1:02tomorrow in Saturday and Sunday it will send for Dear God,
- 1:07why do they eat that third corn dog and the
- 1:10friay orioles and the turkey.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Leg and the Pamina cheese thing.
- 1:14Speaker 2: If I can figure out where it's at.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that might be that might be
- 1:18worth worthwhile doing it. We're glad to be with you here.
- 1:22What we're gonna do here on the program in coming
- 1:25up in a few minutes, we'll hear from Longgarn's head
- 1:28coach Steve Sarkisian from his final weekly media obligation. It's
- 1:36the zoom media availability that he does every Thursday, and
- 1:41we'll bring it to you. You'll be able to hear
- 1:44all the questions for him and his responses to this
- 1:47as he prepares to take his team north for his
- 1:50fourth ever Red River rivalry. So we're going to bring
- 1:55that to you. We do have inconceivable this hour, and
- 2:00there's good and there's bad with the inconceivable, as you
- 2:03might imagine, so we have that. Also, we're gonna hear
- 2:08from sark talk about something we talked at length about yesterday,
- 2:13State Fair Foods. And we recorded Longhorn Weekly with Coach
- 2:19Sark out of Pluckers the West Campus location in Austin
- 2:23yesterday evening. We always recorded like at six o'clock on
- 2:26Wednesdays and it airs at seven on Thursday, so it'll
- 2:28be coming your way tonight at seven o'clock. But we
- 2:31lifted one segment from the recording of the program to
- 2:34you to hear Sark and I discuss some of those
- 2:37State Fair foods, so we'll do that coming up. Well.
- 2:42Also remind you baseball playoffs still going on. The first
- 2:47pitch of today's action doesn't start until a little after
- 2:50four o'clock today, with the Cleveland Guardians trying to stay
- 2:53alive in Detroit against the Tigers, the sixth seed, who
- 2:57lead at two games to one. Cleveland in the same
- 2:59spot the Los Angeles Dodgers were in last night. But
- 3:02the Dodgers went out and beat the San Diego Padres
- 3:05eight to nothing. And there were two things that really
- 3:07stood out about that game to me. Cameron Parker won,
- 3:11the Dodgers got their bats going again, and the Mookie
- 3:14Betts is on a roll again, and guys like Gavin
- 3:16Lux Max Monsey, those guys are starting to hit again
- 3:19and that bodes well for LA. But the other thing
- 3:22is there was a definite roll of the dice, a
- 3:26calculated risk employed by both managers. Dave Roberts of Los Angeles,
- 3:32Mike Shilt of San Diego. For Dave Roberts, it was
- 3:37less a risk and more of a necessity. He went
- 3:40out and did what he's done a lot this year
- 3:42and just had a bullpen game and ran eight different
- 3:46relievers out there, and they did the job in shutting
- 3:50out the Padres. Eight different relievers kept them off balance
- 3:53and shut out San Diego. On the other side, Mike
- 3:56shild decided to go back to his ace Dylan Sees
- 3:59on one day's less rest, and a backfired. The Dodgers
- 4:03jumped on him Bets with a homer in the first,
- 4:05and they got two more in the second, and then
- 4:07two more in the third, and they just kind of
- 4:08opened it up from there. So it didn't work there
- 4:11for San Diego. But those two will play one more
- 4:14time tomorrow night, and the winner is gonna get the
- 4:17sixth seed. The New York Mets, the amazing Mets continue.
- 4:20They're running there. Philadelphia's done. The two seed is out.
- 4:23They've won both games, and Queens did the Mets and
- 4:26the Phillies are eliminated.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Before yesterday's games, no team had ever throwing a postseason
- 4:33shutout in a game in which the starter recorded only
- 4:35four or fewer outs Dodgers and the Tigers almost did
- 4:39it at the same time. And it's huge, Craig, As
- 4:42you will know, the Dodgers went into this the playoffs
- 4:44not knowing who their rotation was gonna be because of
- 4:46all the injuries, and they get that bullpen game out
- 4:50of that and they get that win. It's huge. And
- 4:53that's how you're able to go and win a World
- 4:55Series or advance to the NLCS is when you have
- 4:58your bullpen step up, and you know when your bullpen
- 5:01does not step up, usually it's a big reason why
- 5:03you end up going home early.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So the Phillies are done, the Dodgers are still
- 5:08alive in the National League. In the American League, the
- 5:11Yankees have taken the two games to one lead on
- 5:14the Kansas City Royals, clutch hitting the clutch gene in
- 5:18effect for New York, and they have Garrett Cole going
- 5:20back to the mountain. All right. Coming up next, we'll
- 5:22hear from long Worts head coach Steve Sarkeesian as we
- 5:25take a look at what's to come for Texas AU
- 5:28week on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred, The Zone and
- 5:30the iHeartRadio app
