- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up later on the Yukon Football Coaches Show, we'll
- 0:02Speaker 1: hear from linebacker two if for me and Brown. He
- 0:04Speaker 1: had a tight a career high with twelve tackles on
- 0:06Speaker 1: Saturday A Duke and Chase Lund. He'll make career start
- 0:10Speaker 1: number forty Saturday at right tackle. Coach, we haven't talked
- 0:14Speaker 1: a lot about the running game yet, but it seems
- 0:16Speaker 1: to be improving. Thirty seven carries one hundred and seventy
- 0:20Speaker 1: nine yards. Cam Edwards goes over one hundred, scores a touchdown.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We talked about Nick Evers as well. But how do
- 0:27Speaker 1: you feel the offensive line is coming together here now
- 0:30Speaker 1: after three weeks?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Well, I think they're coming together. I mean, our pass
- 0:35Speaker 2: protection has been solid. We've been able to run the
- 0:38Speaker 2: ball consistently, certainly not perfect, still a lot of work
- 0:42Speaker 2: to do, but you know, our tight ends do a
- 0:44Speaker 2: really nice job in our run game and our protection game.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Our backs, you know, we use some two back stuff.
- 0:49Speaker 2: They do a nice job in the run game and
- 0:51Speaker 2: the protection game. We didn't have Victor the other night.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, they've been nice to have another guy in
- 0:57Speaker 2: there to carry the load. Take a little bit off
- 0:59Speaker 2: a Cam, but you know, I thought that mel and
- 1:02Speaker 2: Durell did well, and you know, same kind of the
- 1:04Speaker 2: same thing with the wide receivers is you'd like to
- 1:07Speaker 2: be able to spread the ball around a little bit more.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But if a guy gets hot carrying the football, you
- 1:11Speaker 2: want to feed him, you know. And Cam's a tough dude, man,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and I don't think people really like to tackle him,
- 1:16Speaker 2: you know. And he runs hard, and he's physical and
- 1:19Speaker 2: very dependable and he's worked himself into being a pretty
- 1:24Speaker 2: darn good football player.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah. The other thing about him too, and you know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: reminiscent of watching Sakon Barkley last night with the Eagles
- 1:32Speaker 1: catching the ball out in the flat and the open. Boy,
- 1:34Speaker 1: those guys are dangerous. Cam had a catch.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And turn to that third and fourth at the end
- 1:39Speaker 2: of the game, right.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, as a Giant fan, I remember a few
- 1:44Speaker 1: of those kind of things going wrong. But anyway, not
- 1:47Speaker 1: that I'm rooting against the Eagles, but I am, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Cam honest, I'm on once in a while, I'm honest,
- 1:56Speaker 1: all right, Cam Edwards though, when he caught that, he
- 1:58Speaker 1: made one, catched it into some big yardage guy like
- 2:02Speaker 1: that man twenty six yards on that play. If I'm
- 2:05Speaker 1: defending this week. If I'm Florid Atlantic, I got to
- 2:08Speaker 1: be thinking about him as a pass receiver too.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and go back to the Merrimac game. You know
- 2:14Speaker 2: that fifty yarder was at little throat of the flat
- 2:18Speaker 2: that he turned up stadium bound. Skyler got the blocks
- 2:20Speaker 2: down the field, he cut it back and made big plays.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And he's much more than just a guy that you
- 2:25Speaker 2: hand it to. You know, I've already mentioned him. He's
- 2:28Speaker 2: really good in pass protection, but he's darn good as
- 2:31Speaker 2: a receiver as well, you know, very dependable and needs
- 2:35Speaker 2: to keep doing that and keep working on that because
- 2:37Speaker 2: it gives us. It gives us another dimension that we
- 2:40Speaker 2: can utilize in our offense.
- 2:42Speaker 1: We haven't talked about penalties much because we haven't had
- 2:44Speaker 1: too many. I want to make a point though, I
- 2:47Speaker 1: thought that Duke's secondary was laying their hands on Yukon
- 2:52Speaker 1: receivers way too much. There were a couple of times
- 2:55Speaker 1: I felt like flags could have come out, and I
- 2:57Speaker 1: think late in the game on want of the drives,
- 3:00Speaker 1: you kind of had a great opportunity. They still had
- 3:02Speaker 1: the ball going down five points where I felt like
- 3:06Speaker 1: the defensive backs were in early and got a face
- 3:09Speaker 1: in the hand in the face mask of one of
- 3:11Speaker 1: the Yukon receivers. Sometimes the flags just don't drop your way.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I think that's what happened.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, the one that you know that sticks out to
- 3:21Speaker 2: me is the one on Brett Buckman down towards the
- 3:23Speaker 2: one yard line. Yes, the guy had him wrapped up
- 3:26Speaker 2: pretty good. I would have liked to see a flag
- 3:29Speaker 2: thrown there. I know what they'll say though, they'll say
- 3:32Speaker 2: they were just hand fighting. Those are hard calls to
- 3:34Speaker 2: make in the in the moment, you know, for those
- 3:37Speaker 2: those officials, But that would have been one that I
- 3:39Speaker 2: would have agreed with had they had they thrown the flag.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You know, they let a lot go in college football,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and as long as they're consistent, which I believe they
- 3:47Speaker 2: have been, then you learn how to play. It's when
- 3:50Speaker 2: you have an inconsistency in officiating that it becomes really
- 3:53Speaker 2: hard for the players to know how to play and
- 3:56Speaker 2: the coaches to know how to coach it. We've been
- 3:58Speaker 2: fortunate the first three weeks have ACC officials, and we'll
- 4:01Speaker 2: have ACC officials this week, and I think they do
- 4:05Speaker 2: a great job. Do I agree with every call? Heck no,
- 4:07Speaker 2: Like I agree with you. I would have liked to
- 4:09Speaker 2: see the flag thrown on a couple. But I will
- 4:12Speaker 2: say this, they're extremely consistent, and if they're consistent, you
- 4:16Speaker 2: can live with it.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I remember something Bill Belichick said a long time ago
- 4:20Speaker 1: when I was covering the Giants in the late eighties
- 4:22Speaker 1: and nineties. If you're physical defensively in your second ear
- 4:26Speaker 1: and every single play, they can't drop a flag every
- 4:29Speaker 1: single play. So let's be physical every play. Let's hit
- 4:32Speaker 1: receivers after the balls there. And you know what I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 1: sometimes you can up with physicality.
- 4:38Speaker 2: No, I mean physicality is you know, violence and physicality.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Those are the gold standard in football. I mean, that's
- 4:42Speaker 2: what you're after. And you're so right. I have to
- 4:44Speaker 2: think back to the Patriots in the Rams Super Bowl
- 4:48Speaker 2: when the Patriots, you know, we're playing the greatest show
- 4:50Speaker 2: on turf in the Rams with you know, I Colton
- 4:53Speaker 2: and Oza Keem and Isaac Bruce and Marshall Falk and
- 4:58Speaker 2: Kurt Warner and those guys, and you know, Willie McGinnis
- 5:02Speaker 2: and those defensive players for the Patriots just put in
- 5:05Speaker 2: Ty Locke corner. They just put hands on those guys
- 5:07Speaker 2: every single play. They were holding and grabbing and roughing
- 5:10Speaker 2: them up. And you're right, Mike, They're not going to
- 5:12Speaker 2: drop a flag on every play, and eventually it starts
- 5:15Speaker 2: to take its toll on the offense. And that's the
- 5:18Speaker 2: name of the game. On defense, man is just well
- 5:21Speaker 2: in football violent physicality, fair within the rules, but violence.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Okay, I'm with you.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I'm with you all right.
- 5:30Speaker 1: About thirty seconds left before we go to Chase London
- 5:32Speaker 1: two weeks mea brown, just a thumbnail on what do
- 5:36Speaker 1: you got to do to get it done here? Get
- 5:37Speaker 1: USU on the weekend.
- 5:39Speaker 2: We have to take care of the football better on offense,
- 5:41Speaker 2: we have to finish in the end zone. We have
- 5:43Speaker 2: to eliminate penalties on special teams. We had two really
- 5:46Speaker 2: costly ones, which is very uncharacteristic of us against Duke.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And defensively, we got to do our job. We got
- 5:53Speaker 2: to tackle and we got to get some takeaways. And
- 5:57Speaker 2: you know what, we got to get a great crowd
- 5:59Speaker 2: there and our student body was tremendous that first game,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and boy, it makes a huge difference. And they're opening
- 6:06Speaker 2: up the parking lot to students for tailgating again this week,
- 6:10Speaker 2: so hopefully this can become the thing to do on
- 6:12Speaker 2: a Saturday or Saturday night is go to a Yukon
- 6:14Speaker 2: game for the next month and a half. And we
- 6:16Speaker 2: got to go out and play great football and hopefully
- 6:17Speaker 2: our fans come out.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a Friday night game as well, coming up
- 6:21Speaker 1: a little later on in this Homestand so all good, coach,
- 6:24Speaker 1: let's get to two and two. We're rooting for you.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You know that, and do we appreciate all right, you
- 6:29Speaker 2: guys have a good day, all right.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's jim moa back in a moment. More the Yukon
