- 0:00Chapter 5 of the book of Esther. Dear God, please be with us as
- 0:04we read through this book and give us wisdom and understanding
- 0:10and inspire us through the Holy Spirit in Jesus name, Amen.
- 0:16On the third day, Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the
- 0:21inner court of the palace in front of the King's hall.
- 0:25The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hill facing
- 0:29the entrance, in the hall facing the entrance.
- 0:32When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was
- 0:35pleased with her and held out to her the gold sceptre that was in
- 0:40his hand. So Esther approached and touched
- 0:43the tip of the sceptre. Then the king asked, What is it,
- 0:48Queen Esther? What is your request?
- 0:51Even up to half the Kingdom it will be given you if it This is
- 0:57my king, replied Esther. Let the king, together with
- 0:59Haman, come today to a banquet I have prepared for him.
- 1:05Bring Haman at once, the king said, so that we may do what
- 1:09Esther asked. So the king and Haman went to
- 1:13the banquet Esther had prepared. As they were drinking wine, the
- 1:18king again asked Esther, what is your petition?
- 1:22It will be given you. And what is your request?
- 1:24Even up to half the even up to half the Kingdom it will be
- 1:29granted. Esther replied, My petition and
- 1:33my request is this. If the king regards me with
- 1:37favor and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill
- 1:42my request, let the king and Haman come tomorrow, tomorrow to
- 1:48the banquet. I will prepare for them.
- 1:50Then I will answer the King's question.
- 1:54So right here we can see that Esther's actually showing a
- 2:01fruit of the Spirit, which is patience.
- 2:05And it's just something that, you know, does she have the Holy
- 2:10Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit influencing
- 2:13her? The the Bible doesn't tell us
- 2:16that, but we can see that her actions are illustrating
- 2:21something that comes from the Holy Spirit, which is patience.
- 2:25So she's been given a direction from her.
- 2:30I guess he was like her uncle Mordecai that she lived with
- 2:35that had adopted her. And she was to talk to the king
- 2:41about this edict that went out. And he's very, he's responding
- 2:45very favorably to her. And she could have just said
- 2:49everything right then and there. But it's interesting, like she
- 2:53first invites him to a banquet today, and then she when she's
- 2:57there, she still doesn't tell him what she wants.
- 2:58She tells him to come back again tomorrow, which is interesting.
- 3:03So continues on Haman's Rage Against Mordecai.
- 3:07Haman went out that day happy and in high spirits.
- 3:11But when he saw Mordecai at the King's gate, that's her uncle,
- 3:17and he's a Jew. And and so is she, but it's
- 3:20unknown that she's a Jew at this point.
- 3:23But when he saw Mordecai at the King's gate and observed that he
- 3:27neither rose nor showed fear in his presence, he was filled with
- 3:32Rage Against Mordecai. Again, think about this.
- 3:36You know, they that anger is a foothold of Satan.
- 3:43So it says like don't something about don't go go to bed.
- 3:48Basically in paraphrasing it, don't go to bed angry because in
- 3:52in in doing so, give the devil a foothold.
- 3:56That's in scripture. And it's just that that is, you
- 4:00know, that anger there can turn into so much more.
- 4:04And we're seeing it right. Like here he is being influenced
- 4:07by evil because all of a sudden this anger is coming up upon
- 4:10him. And just think about that.
- 4:12I mean, that can from inside, but there's also evil spiritual
- 4:16forces that work in people that stir up the anger because the
- 4:21enemy of God and us wants to destroy human beings.
- 4:27And so anything that it can do to destroy us, using US.
- 4:34And we should really think about that today.
- 4:36This is June 13th, 2025. We should think about anything
- 4:42that stirs up anger because is, you know, and really reflect.
- 4:48Is this the enemy trying to get us to fight among one another,
- 4:54to destroy one another, to do the enemy's work for the enemy?
- 4:58Stir up anger, go against someone and destroy them.
- 5:02That's what the enemy wants to do.
- 5:04And if that anger is causing a person to do that, that person
- 5:09is a pawn being used by the enemy, the enemy of God, and
- 5:15it's only going to destroy. So even the person that's acting
- 5:18out on that is going to have consequences of it.
- 5:23Just something to think about. Nevertheless, Haman restrained
- 5:27himself and went home, calling together his friends and Zoresh,
- 5:33his wife. Haman boasted.
- 5:35That's another prideful thing is that's another thing that comes
- 5:39from within. But it always says it comes
- 5:42before the fall. And pride is also the reason
- 5:45that Satan was unable to submit to God because he wanted to be
- 5:52God. And so we can see these
- 5:54qualities that are in Satan and in the enemy of God, the things
- 5:59that God hates, a haughty look, a proud look, that's one of the
- 6:04seven things that God hates, and pride is part of that.
- 6:08So Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons,
- 6:14and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had
- 6:18elevated him above the other nobles and officials.
- 6:22And that's not all, Haman added. I'm the only person Queen Esther
- 6:27invited to accompany the king to the banquet she gave, and she
- 6:32has invited me along with the king tomorrow.
- 6:35But all of this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see
- 6:40that Jew Mordecai sitting at the King's gate.
- 6:44So everything else didn't matter.
- 6:46All of a sudden he focuses on Mordecai and he just wants him
- 6:50destroyed. His wife Zoresh and all his
- 6:55friends said to him have a pole set up reaching to a height of
- 7:0050 cubits and asked the king in the morning.
- 7:05So notice this is they're supposed to have a banquet
- 7:07tomorrow. So his wife is telling him and
- 7:11you know is she influenced by evil?
- 7:14His wife is telling him that in the morning have Mordecai
- 7:18impaled on it. So this is interesting, right?
- 7:21I mean this could ruin the whole plan.
- 7:24Like Esther delay, she had patience and she was going to
- 7:26talk tomorrow. But now Zoresh, his wife,
- 7:32Haman's wife is saying get it done in the morning, then go
- 7:37with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.
- 7:40So do you think maybe evil could have influenced her to make that
- 7:43suggestion to the the enemy of God perhaps was observing and
- 7:50heard that there's going to be a banquet tomorrow.
- 7:53And he, you know, the enemy can observe things that are spoken.
- 7:59And so the enemy could know that Mordecai sent a message to
- 8:04Esther, and Esther was going to talk to the king about it.
- 8:07And the enemy wants to destroy the Jews.
- 8:10And so he's inciting Haman. And now the wife of Haman is
- 8:17coming up with this, like, idea, like, oh, OK, well, tomorrow get
- 8:20it done. Get Mordecai taken care of.
- 8:23So it's just interesting when you see that, when you see how
- 8:26the enemy operates, it's like, OK, here's another thing now,
- 8:30but watch what happens. The just the suggestion
- 8:35delighted Haman and he had the polls set up.
- 8:39So he has the polls set up. So now we're going to go into
- 8:42Chapter 6 because we have to continue the story, right?
- 8:47The actual account of this really did happen.
- 8:50OK, so the knight, the king that that night, OK, sorry, that
- 8:55night the king could not sleep. Isn't that interesting?
- 9:00So he ordered the book of the Chronicles, the record of his
- 9:05reign, to be brought in and read to him.
- 9:09So this is one of those things that I have found recently is
- 9:13that sometimes when God is getting our attention, we can
- 9:19have lack of sleep. I think the enemy might be able
- 9:22to do that as well. But often if you can't sleep, it
- 9:27probably means that you should pray.
- 9:29Either way. If it's the enemy that's waking
- 9:31you up to torment you or if it's God getting your attention, it's
- 9:38time to communicate with God. So anytime you wake up in the
- 9:42middle of the night, pray. It's a time of prayer, so he
- 9:48couldn't sleep, but he ordered the book of Chronicles to read
- 9:51just to put him to sleep. It was found recorded there.
- 9:55Now look at this, the way God works.
- 9:58So he's not praying to God, but God uses God does this I mean,
- 10:04this is, you know, God wants to save Mordecai.
- 10:07Now listen to what he he's reading the record of his reign.
- 10:10The king gets wake woken up in the middle of the night and then
- 10:13he starts reading about his record of the rain and he it was
- 10:18found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Big Thana
- 10:23and Teresh, 2 of the King's officers who guarded the
- 10:27doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.
- 10:33What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?
- 10:36The king asked. So the king had either forgotten
- 10:39or never been told about Mordecai, and Mordecai saved
- 10:44him. So in the middle of the night,
- 10:45he can't sleep. He has this book read to him and
- 10:49it tells him about this Mordecai guy who saved his life
- 10:53essentially. And he's like, what has been
- 10:55done to recognize him? Nothing has been done for him,
- 10:59His attendants answered. The king said Who is in the
- 11:04court now? Haman had just entered the outer
- 11:07court of the palace to speak to the king about impaling Mordecai
- 11:13on the pole he had set up for him.
- 11:16So talk about timing and talk about God's timing being
- 11:21perfect. This is exactly how this is
- 11:24supernatural intervention in real life situation.
- 11:29So Mordecai is already set up. He's got the pole set up and not
- 11:33Mordecai Heyman. Heyman has the pole set up for
- 11:36Mordecai. He wants to Mordecai to be hung
- 11:40on that pole or killed and put on that pole.
- 11:42And it's all set up and ready for him.
- 11:44And he's going into the king in the morning just like his wife
- 11:48has suggested, probably with some evil influence, and he's
- 11:52going to do this horrible thing. And so the king asked, you know,
- 11:58who's out there? And so Heyman's out there.
- 12:02His attendance answered. Heyman is standing in the court,
- 12:07Bring him in, the king ordered. When Haman entered, the king
- 12:10asked him what should be done for the man the king delights to
- 12:15honour. Now Haman thought to himself,
- 12:19who is who is there that the king would rather would rather
- 12:23honour than me? So again this is Haman full of
- 12:28pride, he and pride comes before the fall, but he's thinking
- 12:32about himself. He's like, oh gosh, you know,
- 12:33the King wants to do something great for me.
- 12:35So this is like God uses things and turns it.
- 12:41So he turns it on the the the bad guy in the story.
- 12:46So he answered the king for for the man the king delights to
- 12:52honor. Have them bring a royal robe the
- 12:55king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a
- 13:00royal Crest placed on its head. Then let the robe and horse be
- 13:04entrusted to one of the kings most noble Princess.
- 13:09Let them robe the man the king delights to honor and lead him
- 13:13on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him,
- 13:18This is what is. This is what is done for the man
- 13:23the king delights to be honored. Isn't that interesting?
- 13:26So Heyman is suggesting these things because he thinks this is
- 13:31what's going to happen to himself and he doesn't realize
- 13:35that this is going to happen to the 1 he wants to hang on the
- 13:38pole. And it's just said, you know the
- 13:41opposite is happening to this evil man who wants to kill
- 13:46someone. So then here continues on.
- 13:50Go at once the king commanded Haman.
- 13:53Get the robe and the horse, and do just as you have suggested
- 13:57for Mordecai the Jew who sits at the King's gate.
- 14:02Do not neglect anything you have recommended.
- 14:06So wouldn't that be horrible? A slam to Haman where he is
- 14:12coming in front of the king thinks he's going to get
- 14:14rewarded. And not only does he not get
- 14:16rewarded, but the 1 he wants to take out the enemy he wants to
- 14:20take out is going to be elevated and he's going to have to parade
- 14:24the guy he wants dead in a robe on a horse and all this stuff.
- 14:29And you know, the symbology of this is really interesting too,
- 14:32because it's just like it reminds me of what happened with
- 14:37with Jesus essentially when Jesus came in, but in a
- 14:41different circumstance. But Jesus came into Jerusalem
- 14:44when they were saying Hosanna, Hosanna on the high and he was
- 14:49riding a cult, a a donkey's full and he was, he came in riding
- 14:56the horse, not the horse, the, the donkey.
- 14:59And anyway he was, it was, it's very similar.
- 15:04So there's a lot of things in here that are almost like a,
- 15:09there's some symbolically, just the circumstances are similar to
- 15:15what happened with Jesus. And then Jesus would eventually
- 15:17be exalted. And Jesus was a Jew.
- 15:21So it's all these things that are, it's just ironic.
- 15:25But these are literal events that sometimes have future
- 15:29prophetic meaning or significance.
- 15:31Or you can say, wow, that happened before.
- 15:32Like history repeats itself. It's really just interesting.
- 15:37So Haman got the robe and the horse.
- 15:40He rode Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city
- 15:43streets, proclaiming before him, This is what is done for the man
- 15:49the king delights to honor. Afterward Mordecai returned to
- 15:54the King's gate, but Haman rushed home with his head
- 15:58covered in grief and told Suresh, his wife, and all his
- 16:02friends, everything that had happened to him, his advisors
- 16:06and his wife. Zoresh said to him, Since
- 16:09Mordecai, since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started,
- 16:16is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him.
- 16:21You will surely come to ruin. While they were still talking
- 16:26with him, the King's eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away
- 16:30to the banquet Esther had prepared.
- 16:33So this was interesting too, is that they recognized that
- 16:37somehow God was with the Jews, because it says like since
- 16:42Mordecai, whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin.
- 16:46So they know he's a Jewish guy. You cannot stand against him.
- 16:51You will surely come to ruin. And that's actually in like the
- 16:58Bible says, I will bless those who bless you and curse those
- 17:02who curse you. So anyone who comes against
- 17:05Israel is bringing a curse on themselves.
- 17:09Again, this is really important right now because we are talking
- 17:14about this right now. June 13th, 2025, in the wee
- 17:19hours of the morning, Israel actually went against Iran to
- 17:25get rid of their nuclear, their facilities.
- 17:28And it's certainly not the end of this, but there is a warning
- 17:33in Bible, in the Bible. And people need to be aware of
- 17:38this because who knows what's going to happen after this.
- 17:41But you can be sure that there is going to be some anger that
- 17:45is stirred up about this. There will be retaliation.
- 17:49And there was. It's just it's I'm not going to
- 17:53talk about the political situation of what is between the
- 17:57two of them. But you know, Iran wanted to
- 18:01exterminate the Jews just like Haman wanted to exterminate
- 18:06Mordecai. And then it seems like things
- 18:12kind of turned around the, you know, the Iran, it's not over
- 18:17yet. I know, but Iran was threatening
- 18:20Israel and wanting to exterminate them.
- 18:24This has been going on for a long time with other people who
- 18:28are supportive, other organizations that are
- 18:30supportive of that same thought concept, like Hamas, who was
- 18:34going after they initially provoked Israel.
- 18:38And the war's been going on for two, almost two years now.
- 18:42And then I mean, just there's a lot of things that really seem
- 18:47like they are biblically prophetic things that are
- 18:51happening right now. And again, if nothing else, if
- 18:54they are not, you know, biblically prophetic about the
- 18:58last days, which they really seem to be, they certainly are
- 19:03repeating history and and history repeats itself.
- 19:08So pay attention to what's happening in this book of
- 19:11Esther. This is about the area of Iran.
- 19:15Esther was in Iran. She was actually a Jew and the
- 19:17King Xerxes was the king of Persia.
- 19:21And that's modern day Iran. And so it's it's it's just, it's
- 19:28just important because history does repeat itself and that we
- 19:33should learn from it. And this should stop there.
- 19:37You know, people do want peace, and the unfortunate aspect of it
- 19:44is that there will not be peace because Jesus told us there will
- 19:48not be. It'll be wars and rumors of wars
- 19:51will continue all the way until the end.
- 19:53So we are not going to have peace until Jesus returns.
- 19:58Then there will be peace like we've never experienced before.
- 20:02But until then, we're going to have wars and rumors of wars,
- 20:05so. The important thing to know,
- 20:08there's a lot of Jewish hatred that is seen on social media and
- 20:16there are people who are against Israel, but understand this,
- 20:21that if you go against Israel, you are bringing on a curse from
- 20:25you, on you, upon you. It says it in the Bible, if you
- 20:30bless Israel, you will be blessed.
- 20:33If you curse Israel, you will be cursed.
- 20:35There is evidence in the Bible for that.
- 20:38So don't let something evil sway your mind and have your you go
- 20:44against Israel because it will not turn out well for you.
- 20:48If you want to protect yourself and you want to stay within what
- 20:52God has stated, don't go against Israel.
- 20:58So I'm going to, I think I'm going to keep on reading because
- 21:01to finish out the story of Chapter 7.
- 21:05So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther's banquet and as
- 21:09they were drinking wine on the second day, the king again asked
- 21:15Queen Esther, what is your petition?
- 21:17It will be given to you. What is your request?
- 21:20Even up to half the Kingdom, it will be granted.
- 21:24Then Queen Esther answered, If I have found favor with you, Your
- 21:28Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life.
- 21:32This is my petition, and spare my people.
- 21:36This is my request. For I and my people have been
- 21:41sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated.
- 21:46What does the enemy seek to do? Destroy and kill.
- 21:51So is it hard to see that there is evil forces working in this
- 21:58like the enemy seeks to kill and destroy?
- 22:01That's in Scripture. And what is this Haman doing?
- 22:05He is an agent of the enemy of God.
- 22:09He's seeking to kill and destroy, especially the Jewish
- 22:11people, because they are God's elect.
- 22:14They are God's chosen ones and and Satan is against, I mean,
- 22:21he's against them. He he hates them because they
- 22:24are getting something that he, he wanted and he's just with, he
- 22:29just has a vengeance that he is going against the Jews and then
- 22:36soon to be Christians. So pay attention.
- 22:41If we merely if we had merely been sold as male and female
- 22:46slaves, I would have kept quiet because no such distress would
- 22:51justify disturbing the king. King Xerxes asked Queen Esther,
- 22:58who is he? Where is he, this man who is
- 23:02dared to do such a thing? Esther said.
- 23:05An adversary and enemy that's like Satan also is referred to
- 23:10that this vile Haman. Then Haman was terrified before
- 23:16the king and queen. The king got up in a rage, left
- 23:20his wine and went out into the palace garden.
- 23:23But Haman, realizing that the king had already decided his
- 23:26fate, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.
- 23:31Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet
- 23:35hall, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was
- 23:40reclining. The king exclaimed.
- 23:42Will he even molest the queen while she is with me in the
- 23:47house? As soon as the word left the
- 23:50King's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
- 23:53Then Haman, one of the eunuchs attending.
- 23:56Then I'm sorry. Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs
- 24:00attending. The king said.
- 24:02A pole reaching to a height of 50 cubits stands by Haman's
- 24:07house. He had set it up for Mordecai,
- 24:10who spoke up to help the king. The king said impale him on it.
- 24:16So they impaled Haman on the pole.
- 24:19He had set up for Mordecai, then the King's, then the King's fury
- 24:24subsided. So I will end there because that
- 24:27completes that part of the story, that part of the history
- 24:32account that this literally happened.
- 24:35So I will read the questions and answers and then we'll conclude.
- 24:38So we we're doing chapters 5-6 and seven.
- 24:43So what's the king literally promising half his Kingdom to
- 24:48Esther? Probably not.
- 24:50Xerxes oath to Esther appears to been a stock phrase used by
- 24:55ancient monarchs to express favor and was probably not to be
- 24:58taken literally. Xerxes knew Esther would not
- 25:01dare approach him unless she had a very important reason.
- 25:04Esther has succeeded in arousing both his admiration and his
- 25:08curiosity. Why would a queen do the
- 25:13cooking? When Esther said she had
- 25:15prepared a banquet banquet, she was speaking as the host, not as
- 25:19the literal cook. As Queen Esther's servants would
- 25:22have attended to her wishes. She probably had a team of
- 25:26cooks, chefs, and bakers who prepared a meal fit for a king
- 25:30like Xerxes. Why did Esther wait for the
- 25:33second banquet to make the request?
- 25:35It may have been a strategic decision by Esther.
- 25:38Perhaps she was hoping the king would grant this major request
- 25:42if he was sufficiently pleased with her.
- 25:45Or Esther may have simply and understandably lost her courage
- 25:49the first time. Or perhaps Esther was led by God
- 25:53to postpone her request, thus setting up the timing of Xerxes
- 25:58discovery of Mordecai's. Why did Hayman build such a high
- 26:05pole? Its height indicates Hayman
- 26:07intense hatred for Mordecai and Hayman desire to make Mordecai's
- 26:11death a warning to all. Perhaps the pole was to tot was
- 26:16on top of a wall of house, making it a total of 75 feet
- 26:21high. Since a freestanding 75 foot
- 26:24pole would have been difficult to construct in one night, this
- 26:30implement of death would have been in keeping with the Persian
- 26:33custom. Hebrew law also identified this
- 26:37form of death as an indication of God's curse, making the death
- 26:42of Haman and his sons all the more significant.
- 26:46I will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse
- 26:49Israel. Think about that.
- 26:51Why had Mordecai gone unrewarded for saving the King's life?
- 26:56It is unknown. Those who helped a king in
- 26:59extraordinary ways were considered benefactors with
- 27:02almost a legal right to a reward, though it was not often
- 27:06granted immediately. Some, like Haman, undoubtedly
- 27:10would have made the claim to that reward.
- 27:12Others, like Mordecai were not so self promoting.
- 27:16What was so special about hearing about wearing a hand me
- 27:21down from the king like his robe that he was going to wear?
- 27:24The King's garment had great significance in the ancient
- 27:27world. It was an outward physical
- 27:29representation of his power and glory to where something
- 27:33belonging to another signified sharing a part of that person's
- 27:38stature and honor. Haman's suggestion flattered the
- 27:42king, and since Haman incorrectly assumed the honor
- 27:46was meant for himself, was intended as a means to gain
- 27:50greater recognition and authority for himself.
- 27:53Just like that verse. This is like an example of that
- 27:56verse. Pride comes before the fall.
- 28:00Why did he cover his head? To show his grief.
- 28:03Covering 1's head was a typical expression of sorrow in ancient
- 28:07times. Possibly to hide one's tears or
- 28:10show a desire to mourn in private.
- 28:13Haman grieved for two reasons. Number one, he could not dare
- 28:17now kill now. He could not dare now to kill
- 28:23the favored Mordecai #2. He had been publicly humiliated
- 28:27before his enemy. Why did Haman's advisors think
- 28:31Mordecai's Jewish origin ensured Haman's room?
- 28:35What seemed like idle circumstances for Haman's
- 28:40revenge had now been miraculously noticed.
- 28:44That miraculously altered the significance of this disastrous
- 28:48turn of events was not lost on Haman's advisors.
- 28:53They probably knew the ancient history of Israel, how the Jews
- 28:57had been protected during the exile, and the hostility between
- 29:03the Jews and Amalekites. Given what they knew of previous
- 29:07events, they probably recognized Mordecai's rescue to be the
- 29:12beginning of Haman's judgement. So again, we should pay
- 29:17attention. This is history.
- 29:19History repeats itself. We need to learn from history so
- 29:22that we don't have the same outcomes.
- 29:26Would Xerxes really have given Esther half the Kingdom?
- 29:30Oh well, this is the second time I'd ask that question.
- 29:34Probably not. Xerxes.
- 29:35Oath to Esther appears to have been a stock phrase used by
- 29:38ancient monarchs to express favor and was probably not
- 29:40intended to be taken literally. Would Esther really have kept
- 29:44quiet at being sold into slavery?
- 29:47Slavery in the ancient Near East did not carry the same dreaded
- 29:51connotations it bears today, so it is entirely possible that
- 29:55Esther would not have risked death at the threat of slavery.
- 29:59Further, Esther might have been hinting that it was in Xerxes
- 30:03own best interest to prevent the Jews who were productive workers
- 30:09in his realm from being annihilated.
- 30:12So there's other reasons too. Why didn't Xerxes remember that
- 30:18he had authorized the the annihilation of the Jews?
- 30:21Historical records outside the Bible depict Xerxes as a cruel
- 30:26tyrant. He would have not hesitated to
- 30:29an exterminated entire race of people at the whim of a favored
- 30:33deputy. However, he may not have been
- 30:36aware that the deal had been approved, that the deal he had
- 30:40approved was to destroy the Jews.
- 30:43Heyman had told him only that a certain people with different
- 30:48customs were not obeying the king, and Xerxes have given
- 30:52Haman's Haman his signet ring to finish the next necessary
- 30:56paperwork in his name. Xerxes didn't bother to learn
- 31:00the details. Furthermore, Xerxes did not know
- 31:04that Esther was a Jew, nor did Haman.
- 31:07When Esther, having gone to great lengths to gain the King's
- 31:11favor, told Xerxes that her people would be destroyed
- 31:15because of Haman's order, the volatile king repaid his deputy
- 31:20as he deserved. Why did they cover Haman's face?
- 31:25It was customary among the Greeks and Romans to cover the
- 31:28face of a person sentenced to death, so it's reasonable to
- 31:32assume that it was also a practice of the earlier
- 31:35Persians. The attendants who were present
- 31:37covered Haman's face as soon as the word left the King's mouth,
- 31:41presumably the execution order. And that's the end of the
- 31:46questions and answers for Chapter 7.
- 31:48But it really the timing of this is really ironic.
- 31:51But again, I don't believe in coincidences anymore.
- 31:55I believe that God does things at appointed times.
