- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: They can ship it here at 90's.com and here with me, fellow, who can ship it here, Mr. Oksha's divadula Oksha's.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: The wind's just keep on coming.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Man, how are you doing?
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Robert, when I tell you, so I try after a
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: After the 2021 season, I think I realized to myself, wow, this is just not a healthy way to like watch football games.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, okay, I'm gonna try to like relax and calm myself when I'm watching the football game, right?
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like the regular season, I'm gonna take it even keel.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: There are two times that is three times that is not been true.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, apart from when I go to the games, there's three times that has been true.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Playing the Eagles, the game against the bears last year that gave the Niners a chance to win the contest.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was a lot game.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: And...
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: week five against the end of that game.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: That was everything.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I love about this rivalry.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Everything I hate about Seattle.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Everything I love about the 49ers.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: All the stress I had about how the game would go.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: All the things I didn't expect.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was it was cinema.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was a good game.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Martin's, of course, as he hands in the air and me and right, you know, I'm talking about, right?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just making sure I'm not aging myself.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: I said something to one of my classes the other day and they all stared at me like I had seven heads, because I made a reference that they didn't understand.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get old.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: People, that's what I have to say to you.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Playoff atmosphere is that cliche about about these exciting games, but it certainly was.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: You got two teams that are among the best in the league.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely probably the easily the top two teams in the NFC right now.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ratings are records, notwithstanding, but yeah, I mean, it wasn't pretty.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: The game, there were 38 points scored on off of seven total turnovers in the game between both teams.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: Niners had to scratch and claw their way a little bit offensively, got the benefit of some poor play by the offense, sandals offense that helped set up a lot of their scores.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just be honest.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's a little closer at the end than it needed to be for reasons that I'm sure you're going to touch on later.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: But they win.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: 3229 in Seattle, their five and no and despite all of what social media wants you to believe are in first place in the NFC despite the fact that ever I've seen like 17 different posts that are making the Minnesota Vikings number one.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not true folks.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: strength schedule.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's the the tiebreaker at this point.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, we'll talk about it in a lot of detail, but there's like we talked about how like gutsy and gritty last weeks went over the Broncos was this is probably that to to the next extreme and
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Gosh, I mean, we spent the last couple of years this podcast talking about how important it is to win games like this, or even how important it is to play games like this and winning them is even better and like what a continued resilient performance from this 49ers team that is not going to go 17 to 0, but man, sometimes it kind of feels like, I don't know about you, but it just feels like this team is
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: in a such good place right now, despite everything that's swirling around them, despite the continued injuries.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just like they just continue to get the job done.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, look, Minnesota is their defense is terrifying, but I think what the 49ers have done with how many injuries they've had is just remarked.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like,
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: They are last year, we would say, oh, if only they were healthy, right?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: This team would really be taking the next step.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: This year, we were saying, but what more can they do?
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: Wim by, I mean, they're, maybe, it like they have no passing offense outside of my gavins, which I'm sure we'll talk about.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: their defense has no like premiere pass rusher yet something how came away with like multiple sex, which I'm sure we'll also talk about.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean like everywhere you look like really everywhere you look on this team with the exception of Brockford's play and the offensive line.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're like, oh, there's room for improvements still, right, like health or performance, like they can get better running backs, you're like, oh, they can probably break some off, you know, like it's almost their receivers getting healthy tight ends, kiddo getting back up to speed defensive line getting people back line backers.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the light backers are going pretty good.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'll stay in the second area.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you know, we're not against it's healthy, but they're just like,
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: They have, like, camp bodies on the defensive line.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: And what's hever?
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: And they're, like, dominating.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's so impressive.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's getting my hopes up, which is never a place out of me.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like when my hopes are up when it's, yeah.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: We're a real pessimistic side of the podcast here.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's, though, uh,
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, there's just there's no words for the first five games where I like I don't know what we thought a good record would be through five.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think I was probably thinking three and two.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: five and no is like it's like I mean they're probably favored the rest of the season now just based off this that's like how well they perform.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean that's just like one an exceptional place to be as a football team.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: That, yeah, I'll, all that very true.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to just throw out some numbers here.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of things from Sean Sayed from, he is with an organization called Sumer Sports.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I never heard them, but he's got some interesting numbers here.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers defense against Seattle.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's working with percentiles, essentially, where do they fit relative to the rest of the league?
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: In EPA, allowed per play, 97% tile.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: In EPA, verse design, rush, or EPA, design, rush allowed, 97% tile.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Success rate allowed, 90th percentile.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: EPA for dropback allowed, 86% tile.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Dropback's success rate allowed, 87th percentile.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: is weird to say in a game where they gave up.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: The most points, sorry, the second most points that they've given up all year, that this is probably running away their best defensive performance at the season.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think those numbers indicate that.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we talked about it, like Seattle's offense is not terribly oppressive at this particular moment because it's like kind of slow JS end down and they did that to a certain extent with a little bit of help.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think from the in from injuries, but man, like,
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about this.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure in more detail later, but I don't think it's, I don't think there's any contest that this is their best defense of performance of the season with everything in context and all that stuff.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100%.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're going to, we're going to talk about, I think, every nitty gritty detail of how good the defense of performance was.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: But like, like, every, like, I would say 10 out of 11 players on the field had, like,
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like top percent talent game for them.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: The one is like diameter with nor who just had a tough matchup, right?
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like I mean you're doing against like the best Receiver in the NFL potentially like I thought he held his own but like that's the only player where you're like Oh man, you know he like that wasn't done every other player I think of defense you could argue played dumb and like right.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean They um the points are so out of their control.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: that we'll get into the turnovers and sort of build by me.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: We, I think, we've talked about this off the podcast certainly, and I think on the podcast too, right?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's two different, there's like differences do two main things, right?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: They suffocate and then they capitalize, which is like an oversimplification of, they make it really hard for opposing teams to get like yards points with the fall down the field.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: or they create havoc and make, like, get takeaways, right?
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Minnesota's defense is a perfect example of, like, creating havoc, right?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: You might get an explosive or two on them, but they will, like, they won't make you make him a state.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Seattle suffocates you, and then they make you make him a state, because it's just their self-kind.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers did that.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: They were the aggressors on defense.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that, like, I mean, that changed the game.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's something I think I'd been waiting for, and we saw it,
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: they took it to Seattle's offense and I mean, you know, Seattle's like Seattle's offense was all the more willing to sort of like give up whatever they want it, right?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, right?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: And there's like we want the ball.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Seattle's like by all means players here.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we can't discredit that so much, but um, it like it was uh,
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they dictated the terms of the game.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that, like, saved, that saved the game really, right?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: It will get it to, like, yeah, defense.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Pointed to side.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, exactly.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that extended, I think, over the offense, because the offense is looking around going, okay, like, we're not playing our best game.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think you mentioned something in the middle, like, you know, around half time that you were like, this is not, I don't feel like they, the,
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: There hasn't you haven't it doesn't feel like they've got any better.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I think in the first half that was very true.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about that again and more detail later, but the offense.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think at some point just said, you know what the defense is out here doing everything that they can to keep us in this game.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: And we are there and they're only in there in it because of the of those situations, the
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: you know, the Fred Warner, Fumble, Fumble, Force Fumble, the Grayson Halton, Fumble, and touchdown, like those two plays basically allow the 400 to have the lead going into the, into half time, but you're still that sense of like, okay, well, is the offense going to figure it out?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I don't, this is not their best game of the season and sort of back to back games we were like, hey,
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I also feel like, and you feel free to tell me what you think about this, obviously.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like last year's offense would have crumbled for the entirety of the game both last week and this week, and just what I never figured anything out.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, look, the closest analog I have is WKT against Seattle, the Niners are down, sub-13 points, 11.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's in the fourth quarter, they drive down the field.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's the only time they're getting sub-seplents of consistent offense.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then Christian Kaffrey sort of bobbles the past from Brock Gerty, it's intercepted.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: And like the game was over at that point.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like here, the 49ers capitalized, it wasn't fuel goes those touchdowns.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, the third quarter for those of you who like did watch, it was just 180 in momentum.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers were riding high and the blink of an eye and they're down and like there's just nothing going on anymore like it felt like the dampers yeah right right like it's not a guarantee that last year's team would have been able to sort of I don't know like patch up the damp right they would just hit.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's over like black and white stick with it.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I don't think it's because like there, I'll go ahead.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was just going to say that was the general consensus.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: And in the 90's slack, as we were going through the can.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like out.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: There it goes.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: They've come back.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: They've taken the lead as over kind of thing.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think like Seattle's defense, right, which I talked like wax poetic about on this podcast, unfortunately, like I think it's so good, unfortunately, like it's the type of defense that when you're down against it, you're just like, well, like you just got nothing now, right, it just feels like.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: They you've like given them an inch and they've taken like a foot or whatever or mine.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like you just you can't let that have that ability to play from the head.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, last year, I think the 49ers, obviously, they didn't quit, right?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was not like the team like was like, oh, we can't do it.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: I just think they pressed like they did feel like the offense sort of with short circuit because it was like,
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is like, it's tight, it's stressful, and there's just nothing's working.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: The playcalls aren't working.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, we can't, like, we can't keep it going.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: What happened for a couple like main reasons?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: One of them is rhymes with, um, schmeaks heavens.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: The other one is the offensive.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, they like, they had answers.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: and that like that ability to do so against what is probably the best defense to play all year.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: And if not, very close is a huge asset for them, because I mean, even going back to the Superpose they've lost, when the tide has turned, they've struggled to like stop the bleeding.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I think they have sort of matured and to figuring out how do we stop the bleeding, right?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: How do we go forward?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so like that's a hugely important skill to have.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: You can argue it's that skill that cost them two superbolls.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: So if they have that, I mean, that's like an expected for this team.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Not to sort of bounce back too much, but I mean, we've not said bringing more as his name very much on this podcast throughout the season so far.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: And we were, I think it's fair to say we were a little bit skeptical about the higher in the off season, not that we didn't think that he was a good coach or that he was capable of doing it.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think our skepticism was we'd seen Kyle Shanahan sort of over micromanage the defensive coordinator sometimes.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think looking back at it right now, we know when he's done that and
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know, like, Raheem Morris is getting something out of this group that is a little different.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: Then what Robert saw that got out of them last year and, you know, I think Robert saw that did an admirable job last year with the group that he had.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: even what to make Orion's did with the group.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not going to, we're not going to have to be about which of those guys is better.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's like absolutely no contest that Rehean Morris is the right guy for the right now and what he's doing with this group.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: the what he's gotten out of the secondary is has been like wildly impressive and I think that has made all the difference in the world because the secondary seems to have a stronger sense of like oh we can stick with these guys and that has made you know what has been a rough defensive line situation so far work in spite of of everything else I would say.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think you're being charitable, rather, at least for my thing.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was very skeptical of the Morris High.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it just felt as though his defenses hadn't clicked when he was the head coach of Atlanta.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: But it's been a revelation.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he has absolutely pushed the right buttons.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I think,
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: You absolutely hit the nail on the head, right?
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he has unlocked this secondary in a way that we just haven't seen.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Really ever under college entrance tenure, you can maybe argue in 2019, would Sherman kind of like still at his peak, relatively, and not Emmanuel Mosley coming on.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: And before that, with his food, played really well for your heart.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the secondary was playing quite well.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I mean, I every player on the field is playing with such confidence and the out, you know, like you can still see the same mistakes before.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: But like there's just it's aggression and it's decisiveness and it's winning games with 49ers.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: So totally agree there.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of the things he was able to do that, that he has figured out how to do.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: that some defense coordinators, the 49ers have had, not solid grinds, but the others, I suppose.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: A struggle with is how do you like unlock Fred Warren, right?
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warreners in an Eggman at Beast.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like using him the right way can unlock this defense.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think Morris has figured that out.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then just to give Robert Stahl a little bit of credit, right?
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the defensive line, even though they're all the same injuries, is just better than last year.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like I, you know, Grace and Halton, also do you see are better than anyone else the 49ers had last year.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that is like that interior pressure is creating a lot of safety grace.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, credit to the 49ers staff who went down to John Lynch went out, found a like an area of concern.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: made a weakness, a potential strength of his team.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Boy, that was phenomenal so far.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, somebody I was looking at something today and it was like EPA on defense versus EPA on offense, kind of chart thing.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you have like the lions and the cowboys and I can't remember who the 13 ones that was like down on the scoring of bunch of points but their defense is terrible, might be the bills.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I commented on it.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, man, the cat was really thought they were super, like, they were super savvy.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, we'll just trade.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was a dickies to the 49ers.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: We don't need him.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: It will just flee some out of D-winters.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I hate to say it for deep winters sake, but man, those have been too awful move from Dallas's perspective.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: And they've worked out mightily for the 49ers, because I believe both those names that you mentioned, OSA, DigiZua, obviously, and then Grace and Haltman are here because of those two moves by the cat place.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: I did that would be, that would be kind of hilarious.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: I really want that to be true now.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, the Haltman trade,
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's right.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: It might be Jalen Dugger that they got instead, but I don't remember what this was.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Also, very, it was either way.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's a another great.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm great here.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's also been.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's been, I mean, I'm so excited for him a little like beside the point, but he's growing leaps and bounds every week.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think very soon we're going to see him just be the like,
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: The second linebacker permanently.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, it's kind of true now.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: But everything, you'll just be like, great while only comes in for obvious, like, run counts because a jugger is a, I mean, he's like, he's getting it.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the real time you can see him figure out, like, what it means to be an NFL linebacker.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he's so explosive.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: We can do so many things.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's a real weapon.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, I mean, he is like the 49ers answered to the Seahawks who came and worried.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, that's what they want, right?
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they want, jugger'd to be.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: Is this guy who can like cover the slot, brush the password, drop back as a lineback?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: Dabby, it's a huge weapon if they can get him.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: To be like that, and I think he's well in his way.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: And as we'll talk about,
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Soon, that will be called upon pretty soon.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, more in that a little bit.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: One last update on the sort of overall state of the team, the Fort Energy DVA through through five weeks.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're number one total.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is adjusted for opponents.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, they're starting to get far enough into the season where they can make those adjustments.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Number one total, number one offense,
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: again kind of crazy.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing holding them back right now, Oxfas, and again, I think you're going to talk about this later, number 24 on special teams.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: They've also won three of their five games against 12 win or more teams from last year against the second tough schedule defensive schedule so far this season.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, very, very, very impressive stuff.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: There, of course, was not so great news in the injury front, but, you know, really just one injury in this game that was the loss of diva Samuel has a hamstring, I think Kyle Shannon said he's expecting to miss a few weeks.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: sort of they got Washington and Monday, then Atlanta, then the by week.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's maybe an outside chance that he could be ready after the buy.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: I guess we'll just have to wait and see that by week may be coming at a good time for his for that injury.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: Really unfortunate.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: But it, I mean, it looked like he was,
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's still able to move around.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: So obviously, it's not a, it wasn't a such a big deal.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like he didn't leave the field in any point or Or anything.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: So he was out there for the rest of the game.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: The only other one was the Jacob Cowling had an ankle injury, but it returned to the game catch later after that.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure that name will come up again too.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: And the other injury related news was not something that is negative, but possible, positive, upgrade updates for this team.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Kyle Sweeney and noted yesterday that Nick Bosa, Kyle use check and James Thompson, Jr., all have a chance for Monday's game against the Washington Commanders.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Nick Bosa told Nakmeo that it was pretty darn likely with that was the exact word city used that he was going to play on Monday and that if it wasn't Monday that it was definitely going to be the following week against Atlanta.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, excellent news there.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure how confident you check feels about it, but man like that would be, those would be good, big
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: obviously call you sick as a big part of this team.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure James Thompson has placed on the roster anymore, but we'll see how that works out because guys like Sebastian Valdez and stuff have made themselves so important to this team, so we'll see how that works out, but those first two massive, if they can get them back.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, the demo injury, I mean, I'm glad really that it's not season ending.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, it was so like, it was a little terrifying and very confusing.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because he went down like he had really hurt himself.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, anytime you see that, you're just like, oh my gosh, like you think the worst, but and like drop the ball to right.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: So like clearly such pain.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: more in that later.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: The officials call that he, uh, yes.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, therefore, he fumbled a pair.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: I guess.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, um, yeah, so it's good that it's not season ending.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Diego can rest recover, you know, hopefully by the time he gets back, the 49ers have gone some reinforcements at wide receiver.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think again, get him back into more of that like spot rule that I think they
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously the return of Bosa and use check absolutely massive.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Bosa coming back is very exciting because the defensive line looked like they didn't need him, which is maybe the first time that person seen that.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: So now you're just like, wow, imagine that plus Nick Bosa.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's going to be, it can't be worse.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: It can only be better.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that's very exciting.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers missed him out there.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they did an admirable job without him, but he unlocked so much for the run game.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so, he's a key component to keep this run game which has been a quite revelation for the team.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like you do, you got the one.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: I agree on top, so I mean, it's just, I mean, he played well for the season, but Valdez, I think, has sort of beaten him out now.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it's unclear who goes where.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we don't know.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: They might do some practice squad, roster shenanigans.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we make it all work, but I agree, I mean, it's unless likely to me that he's going to be getting like significant game snaps.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like he did before we got injured.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just think if you release Sebastian Valdez, like 10 teams are going to be in line to pick him up.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, at this point, like he's shown two weeks of really excellent game tape.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: And James Thompson has been hurt for a month.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: doing a good job before that.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like if he comes back and you need to move somebody off the roster,
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably the first guy to go or onto the roster.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably the first guy that that goes and they probably feel pretty comfortable.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: He'll make it through waivers and anything else as opposed to about that.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: So you would get they probably feel pretty confident with gets picked up at this point.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see how that goes.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Um, let's see if there's anything else that I needed to mention.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no, I think that's good.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go ahead and transition into the one up one down section.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: as we talk more about the game, so OXHAS I will kick it over to you to guess, start it with your up.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's so many players I could talk about, so many things and I'm a bit sort of, it's a bit hard to know which you like which one to talk about because there were also awesome.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I think we're going to pick the most obvious answer and go with Mike freaking Evans himself.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what an alpha dominant for for, I mean,
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know what more I have to say.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch the game, that's the most self-evident statement I've said.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Just seven receptions, 113 yards, a touchdown, a two-point conversion.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not just like the stats which are goddying.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: When, like, the 49ers were really right, when they couldn't move the ball.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: Number five was open.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was just, he was literally, he was the release valve for this entire team.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: And that's exactly why he's here.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it's really something this team has missed.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, I think a told you Robert after the game that Evans is like, and I think Ted Newman of the athletic also made this point.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Seattle defense is very, very good at a lot of things.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: They're getable if you have alpha receivers who can win on the outside.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: Cause that's the way the defense is set up, right?
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: The cover to shell is really designed to collapse the middle.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: But that means their corners might be out one-on-one on a receiver, right?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if your receivers don't win those one-on-ones, boom, like,
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: They just, like, they have to be, you're not doing anything.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have a receiver, like, Mike Evans, who can go up and make a quarterback look small, make a quarterback look like, they don't know what they're doing.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: And do that again and again, you're going to be just fine.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that was Mike Evans was the solution to my McDonald problem.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: answers next time these teams play.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, like you said earlier, right?
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: I messaged you and I was like, nothing has changed, right?
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: This offense is not figuring it out.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're still struggling.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: They've just gotten lucky with turnovers, right?
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like they don't know how to score on this McDonald defense.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: They don't know how to drive the ball down the field.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I don't think we should overstate like, oh my gosh, they have figured out the solution, right?
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: But that drive with Mike Evans, the two drives, the drive that led to the game winning field goal with the run game, which you might talk about, and if you don't talk about, I'll talk about for a second, like some bit of, but that the run game there, but really Evans on the touchdown drive.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they got pushback.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was a bogus intentional grounding penalty, particularly as I think a very, very wishy,
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: probably, like, just really negative plays, pushing them back, and Evan solved them all.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he was the unused thing that Seattle could have answered.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: And last year, the 49ers didn't have anything that Seattle didn't have the answer to.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: huge, huge, huge performance.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: Gutsy performance, the broken ribs.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, going out there, I mean, he said, it, yeah, he like, I just, I was in, I was in awe, right, like,
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: their heat, it's like players like that are just, they're one of a kind.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: And you just like, hope your team has them and then you get to sit back and watch them do what they do.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it's exciting that the 49ers have someone like that now.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then one of the all-time great, like on filters.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: Which he tried to explain later that he just couldn't see Trayvon Diggs.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, sometimes it's hard to see their faces on the helmet, I don't know though.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like he was messing with him.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: At least Trayvon Diggs definitely thought that he was messing with him, because he did not take kindly to the fact that he did that to him, but it was actually very funny.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: When he was like, wait, who are you?
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: Whether or not he did it on purpose, it turned out to be very, very good.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like you need a little bit of that energy, especially in that moment, like you need somebody who's like, look, I'm better than you and just like deal with it.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and yeah, I mean, it's not a, he's not a solution to solving the defense every single time, but he is a, you said the release valve, like, pressure's coming, I mean, I said this to you.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things he said when he first got here was,
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, basically that he's always open and quite frankly, that seems, I feel like he's right.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: And Brock Tertis figured out, you put it up in the air and if he's anywhere near the ball, he's going to make a play on it.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think if we had a concern about him coming in it was maybe just like an an age in the last couple of seasons have been a little bit down for him because of injury, but man he's just been the sort of like gritty hardworking leader that this that this offense needed.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: It not say they don't have leadership on the offense, but it's just a different, like, come on boys and put me on my back and we're just gonna go, which is not something that the steam has had, especially at the White or Superposition at all.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, since Kyle's standing down here.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: At the White or Superposition, there's like two players I can think of that have made similar, like, have had that in, like, the leadership influencer talking about, which, like, 49ers have a ton of leaders, right?
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: They still do, like,
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, leadership is not really, but like, the like, hey, like, I'm going to like show you how it's done for the wide receivers.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think Pierre Garseau, as we get to start, like, he really set the tone for like the violence, the 49ers play with.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great quote from George Kittle about like how he learned from Pierre Garza, like, I mean, it's kind of dark.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: He just talks about how Garza's phone would like get into this deep, dark place before games.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think go out and just like run over people.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh boy, but like, I mean, the team plays with that.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Then the manual Sanders, right?
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: Who I think, um, not in the same like, oh, like dominant performance,
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: But more of like, I'm a professional, this is how professionals play wide receiver learn with me, kind of deal that I think paid huge dividends down the line.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: And Evans is doing the same thing now.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if I was a wide receiver and he was on my team, I just watch everything he do.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'd realize I'm not 65 and can't make all those catches.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: But some of the things he do, I'd be like, all right, that footwork, that's how I do it.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is how I run grounds, right?
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is like,
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: You're getting, it's the same way like every offense of tackle on the team, she just watched track moments, mostly the time.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you're just like, oh my gosh, he's just so much stronger than like any other human.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't even know what to do anymore, but like the Mike Evans is impact on this team.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be felt for many years down the line far more than just this and whatever season
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely agree.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: The interesting to see how the contract things going to work out, not to get way ahead of the situation.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: But it'll be interesting to see, do you want to go ahead and I'm not going to talk about the other thing that you mentioned, so you want to talk about that as well.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely, you know, I think right, I'll take the offense, because I think you're
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: exceptional.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it didn't really feel like it to start, right?
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, if I think the 40 matters, there's kind of a sense of like, okay, like, is it really, are we like really clicking on the ground?
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, you look at the stats and Christian McCaffrey average over six yards of carry.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Black, 2.7, that's not so good.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he was really the sacrificial
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: like 31s, 32s, where everyone knew the 49ers were going to run the ball.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: Rock 35 for six.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: His scrambles were not very effective.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: This game.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: But the McCaffrey run is the one I want to focus on because those came at the biggest moments.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: Namely, I think near the, like, the etzy, and at the end of the game, right?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: This was really a group effort.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offensive line played well.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: The cat for you did a good job turning out actually yards.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: Black added great couple runs at the near the end of the game where you turned that extra yards of self.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I mean, the 49ers offensive line pushed Seattle.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mina Times had that on the 49ers, like rushing success rate was the highest allowed by Mike McDonald defense.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: for the last couple of years, but that might be overstated again.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was certainly the best of 49ers have run against a Mike McDonald difference.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so, they sort of had some of that balance that I think they've desperately needed.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: It makes you wonder why do they run the ball more?
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them like a game script, you know, I think
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably also true the shanahan didn't necessarily believe that he could run the ball.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sort of proved abroad.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like they proved abroad.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: I would expect to see more runs when the seahawks come to Levi's.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, this, what Seattle's interior, they're like middle is quite good, right?
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: Byron Murphy and Leonard Williams both very, very good players.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: Murphy
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ernest Jones, the linebacker is fit like very dependable.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're safety's close super fast on anything.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: Name so much as I think what I'm just I'm saying that is obviously we were having a conversation.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: You were like, I don't know who those guys are, but they're good.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's so, you know, this is a Seattle's defense to me is so exceptional because there's so many players on that team who are like very good players, right, like above average starters, but there really only a couple players who are like,
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: which makes their performance all the more exceptional that like their as good as they are, right?
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't like a bunch of like big-name stars.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like like the Ram's defense, for example, right?
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's like a bunch of very, very good players doing their job very well cohesively.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: But like the interior I think is where they you see that really play out, right?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like Byron Murphy and Leonard Williams are two of the more recognizable names for the defense.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: And they're for nom, I mean, they like close-up shot and the 49ers pushed them a little bit in the run game and that's huge.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was necessary.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Seattle makes you fight for every inch and I think the 49ers, they certainly lost some of those battles, but they, they won enough and I think.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: having that ability to run the ball, right?
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the game, on the final drive, the 49ers ran the ball and they got a fuel go out of it and that one of them, the gate, that's a huge, like, that's something last year, it just wouldn't have happened.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: They would have to have found a way to get down the field in another way and they didn't have that possibility this year.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's just tools.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: There are different ways this team can beat you, right?
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: George Kittle was sick.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: He is probably going to be much better next time these teams play.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Debo and his healthy, that's another guy.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: Brock Ferdy might scramble, Perdy might throw deep to something that's open.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but now you've got, like, now the Niners can just have the ball off to the Cavity Black, now they can find my Kevin's, if they need, like, instant yards.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just the multifaceted nature makes them dangerous and makes them, like, it makes you feel like no matter how the game is going, they have a way to, like, answer the questions and keep on, like, going forward.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the most important part, right?
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: They can win any type of game.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the one game showed that, I can see at all.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the benefit of not running Christian McAfrey into the ground so far this season has been really nice.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: Can you imagine him only carrying the ball 11 times in a game last year that they won?
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: like unimaginable for a lot of reasons, one because they didn't have anybody else's spell them and two because he was just the full grum of that offense last year, but yeah, I mean, you mentioned like Hale and Black, like he didn't really have a lot of go, but those six carries are important in the game and you only have 24 total carries from between all your rushers, like it's important to have that opportunity.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I think for the first time, it feels like,
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: They have a guy that they trust enough to go out there and do a little bit of a job to make it so that when we get into week, you know, week 15, 16, and then into the later part of the season into the playoffs that Christian McAvery will be a useful player and not like a shelf himself as the season is coming to an end.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the health calablac just by being someone they trust to run the ball with has exceeded expectations.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think that we all have for is a great one who is drafted.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there's so much more to use on the ground.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like I think he's really close.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can just see it.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like he gets it.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: He has the like athleticism and he has the ability.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a matter of like finding the crease.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: I really think he's going to like he's going to have a huge game very soon.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he had it in that one deep broke off on that drive was like oh there it is and then he just.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: little bit caught up in a little bit, but yeah.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the offense.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: So talk about the defense because we talked about them in a large portion at the beginning of the podcast.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: I have two names for you and then a general and then a unit that is going to shock everyone.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: The first name is Grace and Halton.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: The second is Renardo Green.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: and the defensive unit as a whole is the defensive line.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: Who would have thought get?
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: Grace and Halton just a absolute monster in this game.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: Not, you know,
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention the yet three tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, which was one of which, of course, was the force fumble that led to the touchdown at the end of a half.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not mad about it, but wow, that was it.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: absolutely weird decision from Seattle to to run that ball at all on the circumstances.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think you just got it.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's one of those situations.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: I like I'm not couching in and was not calling a time out at that moment.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like if you just like QV sneak forward and get out of the shadow of your own in zone, like everybody's fine, like you go into half and be and it's done.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that really set an interesting tone for that point for that point in the game.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Grace and Holden has been way more than I would have ever expected.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that he's worked his way into this rotation and has been just absolutely huge for this team.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's been massive.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're not a green, obviously, with the two interceptions.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: That was big.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then really, again, the defensive line in general helped Seattle to 3.4 yards per carry.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: One of a big part of that.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: However, is a 16 yard rush that they credit its Jackson Smith and Jacobo, which
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: looked a little bit like a screen pass, but I guess they decided it was behind the line of scrimmage, so it's 16 yards there, and then one rush by Sam Darnl, if you take that away, Emilia Wilson was 28 for 61, which is 3.1 yards per carry, and George Halani was 4 carries for 7 yards, which is 1.8 yards per carry.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's not good.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: So total together, they were like under 3 yards per carry.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: So they did a great job there, the five sacks, which is almost, almost met there's their total for the season coming into the game.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: They also had eight additional QB hits on top of everything else.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Seven tackles for loss.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: 60 total tackles.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: One touchdown that from Grace and Halden as I mentioned.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, we talked about it.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: Again, against an offense that hasn't quite figured it out yet is clearly missing a couple of pieces of their offense that kind of make it go a little bit better, but it's still pretty impressive buying large from this defense.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100% right, I think so let's go in order halting phenomenal, just so good.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he solves one of the major problems which is, do you have enough pressure from your defensive line?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the 49ers felt super confident in that answer.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_00]: And like, he is single-handedly fixing what is a problem area, him and OCDG, OCDG.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: We got it for a sack, very excited for him.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's been, he's deserved one for a while.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that was good to see.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, Halton wrecked shop, and he placed hard.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you want, right?
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: You want a guy who has to scale a new place hard,
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: Bernard O'Grain has, like, it just looks like it's clicking for him, like he's figured it out.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's taking advantage of the, of his physical tools.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, the 49ers are the better for it, where he is a prototypical corner bear.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_00]: And he's playing like in Alpha and I mean, the intersections are great, right?
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, he is just, you just don't want to throw near to him anymore.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I mean, the defensive line just went to work a bunch of people you didn't expect made great plays, some players that you did expect made great plays and they just made Seattle uncomfortable right like Seattle was not comfortable on offense it felt very similar.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, not to the same extreme, but similar to how the 49ers have felt playing Seattle's defense.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, the Seahawks didn't feel like they could just hand the ball off and go.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's just, they couldn't get yards that way.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: So they had to put the ball in harm's way.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: There was pressure, San Carlos was not responding well to it.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, other than Jason having a couple of huge plays.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: They really weren't like stressed all that much.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean,
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: They played out of their mind.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm obviously going to an additional flag for Edwardner with his book, all this.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: Just punch out, general leadership.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the punch out is huge.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's for your nanders to touch down.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to say one thing, no, I really do think shit a hand would have taken time out at that point, just because I'm out of the back of the engine, I mean, I think they would have done straight punk block, no one's even back to receive it.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, did they have three, I don't remember, I thought it was only two.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: They had three.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: They had three.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, maybe.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's still weird.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like at that point,
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: You got to get it out of it.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you speak it.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know why you don't speak.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's like that was either a safety or a touch.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: There was only two things that were going to happen there.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: When that play started, like as soon as it started, I was like, oh, we're getting two points.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you just, you can't run a stretch.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't understand why.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as soon as he snapped the ball, I was like, oh, that's a safety.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for that.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then Grace and I'll inspect the sand.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, it's a touchdown.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it was, it was rough, but you may be right, I don't know.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not couching in surprises me sometimes.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a big, big, big day from the defense flying.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: Jaden Dugger, first career sack, Kian White added a sack.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: Sebastian Baldez got a sack.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'll see you digged it, digged it, he mentioned, along with Grayson Hullton, 51.4% pressure rate from the 49ers on this day.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: That is very good.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: If a quarterback is under directs half of the time, when he drops back, it's usually going to cost problems.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: Honorable mentioned really quickly, Coral Swayman.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like stud, like absolute, all five of us punts inside the 20, zero return yards from the, from the, from the seahawks, which is, sometimes was kind of like, okay, what are you doing?
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of thing.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then obviously the big pun before the half that set up the aforementioned fumble recovery.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: That forced forced Seattle to to make a decision and they didn't make the right one.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think the the upgrade at Hunter, which is just a weird thing to say is has been good this season.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, this is going to pair so well into my way out.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: Do your thing.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: I've arrived told Robert the second that this happened that like I was this was my down and I mean, you know, there are a couple of downs right like obviously the offense.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: outside of the one really wanted to have drives and look very good.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, we saw how important special teams is, right?
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like Coral's Waitman was a huge weapon.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: I would be remiss if I didn't note that Coral's Waitman was signed like off the street essentially in free agency, right?
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Not a ton of competition, and he's been like, maybe the best punkton to NFL so far.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: I would also flag the 49ers last year, signed a phenomenal kicker in Eddie Pignaro, off the street, had a great performance.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: Then, read up and gave him a lucrative contract extension, and Pignaro has had a really bad year.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, missing another kick, 50 something yards, you know, I think we've gotten to the point in the NFL.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the kickers are so good.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: That really, if it's like within 55 yards, and there's no real weather condition,
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think you kind of expect that a ticker will make that kick.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like you have to, that has to be almost automatic.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: And with Paniero, nothing's been automatic this year.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it cost the, almost cost the 49ers, right?
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of being up six, they were only up three Seattle tied it.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously, you can nearly redeem yourself a bit, making a brother kick.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: But Seattle had a chance to tie it off of field goal because that missed.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, you just, this team is playing too well on offense and on defense, despite the injuries, to have the kicking game not be a guarantee.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, I mean, we saw with the Rams, right?
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: misfiel gold blockfield gold cost them a game and they cut like their kicker immediately.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't think Penaire on these to be cut.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously he played really well last year.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think you give him a chance to work it out, but it's just you just can't have.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: You can't have misses like this.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: You can't go like the thing about Penaire right like why did
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in field goal range.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even have to think about it.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's three points and I'm going to go from there.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not getting that from your kicker, you have a problem, right?
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that needs to be fixed.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know exactly what's going to happen.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the contract is a bit burdensome for any major changes.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: So this is really going to be a situation where I think they ride with Canero, but like you just, you can't have these misses.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: You can't have as a kick, Lena, like,
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: I fully believe Kickers are people, you know, I'm on that side of the debate, right?
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they play a very important role on NFL teams.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: They can change games, but...
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: different, like there are really two kickers in the NFL that I think have like some absurdly elite ability that makes them just by far in a way irreplaceable.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's Cam Little from Jacksonville, Brandon Aubrey, and Dallas, just because they have the link to just change games.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're not that type of kicker, in Pineros, not that type of kicker, you've got to be like
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, it just, you can't, that misled to a fuel bill for Seattle because it's a shorter field now, you just, you can't have that.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: The margins are too tight for the teams, the 49ers are going to face, especially if they make it to the playoffs to have a situation where they're not.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: like to, like, not be able to trust their kicker.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think we're there yet, but I think it's not been an encouraging trendline over the course of the season.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: And like, they finally played a close enough game where I felt like a matter.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, obviously, if you've listened to this podcast for more than a year, we're fully aware of my thoughts on kickers and on invest in capital and kickers.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's not surprising that I'm a little disgruntled by a pinera's performance, but you know, I think you can turn it around.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you know, it's not easy to be an NFL kicker, but why it's just.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: The margins are tight and every like that was that was a negative right that was not the special teams of ex apart from Carlos waitman to not have a good performance I'll expand out Jacob Cowley.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like with the fair catch muffing the puns you just can't do there right like.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: You have to call a fair catch there.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_00]: You have to like, the momentum is too important, right?
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: You have a chance to really like and pose your will.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: You can't let teams back into the game.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: Letting teams back into the game is how they lost a Super Bowl, off of a month punch, right?
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 54:31[SPEAKER_00]: can't have that right.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be on top of it.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: And then even the kick coverage was like mediocre, right?
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like should he had a couple big runs?
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like these are the fine margins that you have to win.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: And you saw as we just talked about with Ponte, right?
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: It can have huge impacts, but the best teams like this, they win on the margins and that's what allows them if instead of an A plus game they're having an A minus game from their offense.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: Against a team that's like having an A plus game, special teams can be the difference.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we saw if you watch Monday night football with the ramps of the bills, you saw fully like what special teams can do and how it can do reality like it just did for the
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's got to be better.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like it just has to be better than the 49ers were so good in so many other ways.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of mastered it but going forward like special teams needs to be by and far a strength for this team going forward.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: Um, no argument for me.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, oxides don't look at ready Panier's contract page on the
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: I want to.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, thanks.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: I did it on your behalf and I got a little nervous.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: Is it all safe?
- 55:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I can only imagine what your response is going to be.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it doesn't mean we talked about this two years ago.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: The special teams doesn't have to win new games, but it can't lose them for you.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's essentially what that's got to come down to.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: When you excel in other the other areas, now I think they're in a position where they have
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: games on those thin margins.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Carlos Waitman, you know, Panera, I think when he's right is good enough to do a good job.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: They got to figure out their return situation both in coverage and in the in their their returning of plants and kicks although I thought Jordan James actually was pretty good as a kick off returner.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's got the juice as a partner, but it's something to try.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Jack Cowling is much longer for that situation we talked about.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: Xavier Smith last week, as a possible option there.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think Cowling's probably fine for now, because the letter C for group is so thin, but he's going to have to watch us back for sure.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: Um, couple of down things for me, uh, obviously we got to talk about Drake Greenlaw's ex-ejection from the game, uh, breaking news for those of you who are listening, who didn't hear this when it actually happened.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: Live, uh, they did appeal.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is suspension, uh, suspension, uh, for next week against the commanders and it was, uh, not, uh, rejected the suspension has been upheld.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: So he will miss next week's game.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_01]: I have a few things, I'm going to limit my thoughts here on this as much as possible.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: I've already shared with you my feelings on this.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: Two things can be true at once.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: Aksha is one.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: Drager in line has got to be smarter, and he's got to know and Kyle Shanahan basically said this.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to know they're trying to bait you, and you have to be smart enough to walk away.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: that's one thing.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good what he did.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's not acceptable what he did.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't smart.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't helpful to his team.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think Drain knows that he has put this is sort of the line that you you play with Dr. Green a little bit and I think he's done a lot better over the years at controlling that a little bit but obviously found himself in a in a bad position
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: I do not understand how in 2026 we are still going with the oh the second guy got caught and so he's the only one who is going to get something bad is going to happen to him like the only reason he got ejected from the game is because of video evidence looked at by people by people not at the game but sitting in New York.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: who called down to the officials and said, hey, this happened, you gotta eject 57.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't understand how it's okay for the entirety of the Seahawks bench to surround him in that moment.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_01]: And like, there's no repercussions from that side at all.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like Ernest Jones trying to play all like, oh, I didn't do anything.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't involved in this of any way.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: She performed me, just walked up and smacked me in the head.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, bro, like, come on.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we have to be better than this.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we always should have been better than this.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: We always should know that if generally speaking, if someone is retaliating against someone, if we're going to call it retaliation,
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: retaliation by its very nature suggests that someone did something to occur the retaliation Anyway, that's just me.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's bad.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not here defending Dr. Greenland say oh, you know, he did a great job, and that was cool
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: The Seahawks are trying to protect their player.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't really that bad of a hit.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like he nudged him out of bounds.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_01]: Was it late, probably?
- 59:33[SPEAKER_01]: Was it vicious?
- 59:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, but like we got to calm down with this like it's only one guy who gets in trouble thing.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like it takes, it takes two people usually in this situation.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I just feel like that that was not well handled in the moment.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't end up costing the 49ers, but they're gonna be missing one of their key players next Monday and I don't I don't like that Yeah, you know like Drake can't do that right right.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not dismiss not not suggesting that at all And I think like for me the view is very simple.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like Yeah, maybe you know we want a way to like we don't want what we like we don't want to like let instigators get out free
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: but like the rules are the rules and he didn't follow.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_00]: So like I agree, I agree with you that it's a bit annoying.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: It reminds me a lot of the like situation with Big Dom in the last game.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: Where it's like, okay, like you just like that is not, you like, why is that guy so close to the field?
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like, okay, like drag you can't do that, but this is kind of ridiculous, right?
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, it's a bit frustrating in that way.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_00]: But it's the rules, like it's the rules.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_00]: You have no plenty of players get on opposing sidelines and nothing happens.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like, you just, you have to play within yourself and GreenLog didn't do that and so.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: That it's just sort of, it's hard because I mean, I do agree, but I also think the 49ers instigate so much.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is one of those because they're my team.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: I like to deliver a cheek, but like 49ers are obnoxious.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: They are, they talk so much trash, like, especially on defense.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: They will, they will keep on, like, they block you to the whistle on offense.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_00]: And like on defense right like they will get they will get the final hidden that's what they do right they will push up against you right they won't they don't back down at all And like that's something they pride themselves on but like if we had to instigate a rule like I don't know Fred Warner could be going to go a lot of panels that's I agree with you that like the in this specific situation where it's just like these guys are not even in the game
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like the reason that Ernest Jones wasn't wearing an helmet is because he wasn't in the game.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like that felt like that, I guess maybe this, in this particular situation, that's the part that Erics me.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, I know you're trying to defend your quarterback over this thing that you felt, this awful thing that you felt that happened.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: Jay's got to be smarter.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope I said that a couple of times to make it clear.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just like, because I agree with you, I just like, because I was thinking about this too.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_00]: There are a couple years ago.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_00]: like Fred Warner and D.K.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_00]: Metcalf both got ejected at the end of a game.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a Seattle game and like the 49ers were celebrating it because it was that like Warner instigated like Metcalf, right?
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like he pushed and then Metcalf like responded in a way he couldn't.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_00]: And but like Warner's reaction was like
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, he kind of like grabbed Mekka's helmet and like shook it around.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's a lot, you know, but if that's the rules, then you play to the rules.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: I have no problem with like playing to the rules, right?
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_00]: If like, if a Seattle defender came out to the 49er sideline, by all means, like, and you have an issue, like, talk shit, oh part of my language.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking, talk, talk smack to him.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like, you know, um, I have no problem with that.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, within your rights to do that, does it suck?
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but like, that's the composure part.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think you're not saying this, but I, like, I want to make it very clear.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're both in agreement on this.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, it's annoying that people can get under your skin in these ways.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_00]: in a game where like a game of violence, you know, people provoke you and then you respond and like that's a penalty.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_00]: But like, if that's the rules, then like good on Seattle for essentially like pushing them that way, bad on Dre for not doing that.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_00]: But if like the table was flipped, I'd be totally arguing like absolutely like correct call to ejected.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I just think for
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: play ball and you're like, you got to stay within the lines and try to do that unfortunately.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, absolutely.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_01]: All fair.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: Last two things, try to be great.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'll try to cook about this.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this a little bit, but set the offense in the first half without a short field.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't, it wasn't great.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_01]: But Brock Perti, showing up again in the second half, like I'll turn this into a positive thing.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this last week, against the Denver defense, same kind of thing, where it started off a little rough, but they figured it out.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so I have this from pro football, pro football focusing for me to say, hi, it's passer rating in the second half, or over time this season with a minimum of 150 attempts, not 150.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: Brockford has a passer rating in the second half and over time, or really just second half, of a 140.3.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_01]: which just goes to show you, like, yes, like, probably the Rams game and the Dolphins game and the Cardinals game are doing some heavy lifting here, but you can't have a 14.3 pass rating in any point in the season without being consistent
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he just goes to show you that he has been like the offense started off poorly.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_01]: Got some help from some turnover is to make sure that they still had the lead at half time.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_01]: But those two drives that we've talked about a lot are we're huge.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_01]: And like he has just been
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_01]: When the bell is called, he's been excellent at various points throughout the game, but like he's just shown a lot in the second half of these games where, and especially these last two weeks where it's just like, okay, what we were doing wasn't working, let's figure it out.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_01]: And he is avoided most importantly.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, the interception in the second half.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_01]: that was not great, but generally speaking, he's avoided those foot-shooting self-inflicted wounds, which has been massive for this team to either hold a lead or regain a lead or whatever they needed.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I totally agree.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_00]: I want to make one quick like a side on the interception.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I've been like whatever on Tom Brady is like an analyst, but I thought his explanation was very good on Sunday, actually.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just like, yeah, I thought, like, there's a bit of like, oh, like rivals, you know, like kind of co-speaky, like, not really saying much, but like that interception, I learned something new.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_00]: I did not know what the covers that was at all, right, but he explained it so perfectly.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_00]: I was like,
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_00]: That is like very cool.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like not only just like the way that like the corner sits on the route and the safety covers them up the field, but you don't know that until like the route sort of develops and the corner has to sit down.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_00]: But like the fact that like for a quarter back, you have to wait to see the corner make that move and at that point is pressure.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_01]: So you can't anticipate throughout just like, I understand this interceptions so it's like, yeah, that's like, that's like, it's hard to put that on Brock a too much when literally there's, he couldn't see it.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_01]: Cause it wasn't there yet, when he threw the ball right here.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_00]: But like the fact that like that's true
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's like he threw it right to the defender, but if you're looking, but if you understand, oh, well, but it's actually they're baiting him into the throw like that's exactly the way the defense is is designed to to do it.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I don't know, I learned a lot from that.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_00]: So very, very, I mean, everyone listens to the podcast, obviously, so Tom Brady, good job.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, real, that was really, really, what was the thing that he said?
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is the J.S.N.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_01]: had the, where he threw his hand up in the air, like in the middle box.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought that was also interesting.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, okay.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, like I see something
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_01]: in the way that the defense is playing, that maybe you don't see as a quarterback, and so I'm just going to bail out on what I'm supposed to do and go this direction.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_01]: Man, football is really intricate, and very difficult to understand, and it's amazing that anybody is able to do it.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's, that's just what I learned for Comberty.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_01]: Last final thing that I'll say before we wrap it up, we've hinted at this already, but, and I think Richard Sherman said something to this effect,
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_01]: rough.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's, I'll put it, I'll say at that, like that Richard Chairman was meaner.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_01]: He said it was like the worst officiated game of the year so far.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and he like he went so far as to like he was not wearing either of his team's hats, you know, he flip flops between like where I see Hock's hat or a before he enters hat when he's doing his his podcast or videos and stuff.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_01]: He was just wearing a Richard Chairman hat because I think he just wanted to, you know, remain neutral.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_01]: And he was just like, they got this wrong.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_01]: They got that wrong, like it was all mess.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, not a very good well-efficient game on both sides, really.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, there was stuff on both ends that was like, aren't we doing here?
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I don't remember the parts that like, I don't think they did.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember what Seattle's agrees about, but I'm sure it was there.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, not a good well-efficient game at all, I thought, just a lot of errors across the field.
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of, I mean, like,
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just the two biggest ones, the intentional grounded call, the 49ers can, like, that one touchdown drive, they kind of got, like, screwed, officiating wise.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they still managed to come back.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_00]: But like, there are three separate calls that I thought were wishy-washy, really.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, the intentional grounding is just just the incorrect call.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_01]: So what you're saying is the guy who recovered the thing that you might have called a thumble,
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_01]: wasn't close enough when you decided it was a pass.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh my god.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then as you know, the Brandon cooks doing the same thing that Cooper Cup did earlier in the game and getting called for it was just like infuriating to me.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then I don't know, the time out.
- 1:10:53[SPEAKER_01]: was annoying.
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't ever show us like what that actually looked like and how it timed up and whether or not Mike McDonald got a time out that he probably shouldn't have.
- 1:11:02[SPEAKER_01]: But that is always that's always a noxious from an opposition point of view where you're like okay we started the play and then and we actually finished the play and we were like touchdown and then the guy was like no actually he called the timeout and they're like yeah, stupid.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Then of course the end of the game.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean yeah, I don't know what the right call is.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I've seen 17 I've seen 17 different views on it.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them like I think I got the wrong and some of them like okay, I see it.
- 1:11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I mean like taking my home or head off.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think I would have been like yeah, that's probably first down.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think like.
- 1:11:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was whatever they called on the field was going to stay on which is like kind of it's just kind of silly because it's like okay there's a right answer like they just don't have good enough cameras which is wild to me exactly so very very just like not well one other dad I'll quickly say NFL on Fox
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_00]: when you have a game of the week, can you please put the game of the week on when the game of the week starts instead of bonus coverage everywhere.
- 1:12:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, oh my gosh, no, I want so much over time between the commanders and the giants.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_00]: I would keep it on the local like, you know, the local air, I understand right, there's some fan who's in some other part of the country that's going to be very, very frustrated by this.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I totally get it, right?
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_00]: But look, the end of the day, right, I'm in like the Midwest.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_00]: After the bear scheme ends, I am like, if I was a bear's fan, I don't really care about how the giant's commander's game ends.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_00]: right, you're just giving me free football, great, I love free football, but then like, now it's time for the other, like, quote unquote, paid football that I have.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Take me to my, like, actual, I mean, the fact that like the call, their call is like, well, we just go until this other game ends.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_00]: It makes no sense.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to do that.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that there was a game break,
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_00]: to show the game that should be playing.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not it.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually ridiculous.
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I miss the first interception.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_00]: And if it touched on, just like, really.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_00]: And luckily, it's not just us.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think the entire, like, country had the same frustration.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know what they'll do, but a very annoying for those of us out of them.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_00]: Out of state, just like,
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to watch my team play.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_00]: If like, if you don't let me watch it on Sunday ticket because it's black down there, you can watch it over the air, over the air, at least let me watch it over the air.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, very, very frustrating.
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, such a big game to like miss part of super annoying.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, also.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think we've said a lot of things about this game.
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go ahead and wrap it up for us.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back next week to talk about the Monday night contest or later in the week.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I should say to talk about the Monday night contest against the Washington Commanders until then we want to say thanks to you for listening to this episode of the nine or noids podcast, which is part of the fancited podcast network.
