- 1:15time that I upload new content. Alright, so today's video,
- 1:20today's discussion is something that has been on my mind for
- 1:25just a little while on. Well, it's been on my mind for a
- 1:29while, but on and off. But it's been on my mind more
- 1:33heavily recently for like maybe the last week or two.
- 1:38And that is the subject that I want to talk.
- 1:40Today is that about where we see certain either organizations or
- 1:46people taking measures to codify Heathen ring.
- 1:52Now, some of you may be wondering what I mean by that
- 1:55and where my stance is coming from is as may as some of you
- 2:01may know my approach to Heathen re is not 100% hardcore, you
- 2:05know, historical reconstruction approach.
- 2:08I'm not a hardcore Recon. He then I've said it many times
- 2:11on my channel but I'm also not one of these, you know, kind of
- 2:14just neo-pagan trying to slap, you know, the Norse aesthetic on
- 2:19to modern-day neo-pagan. Is, that's not me, and it's not
- 2:25the way I do things. That's not how I Heaton,
- 2:27however, you Heathen. And, however, the people, you
- 2:30know, Heathen and then people at you, you know, kind of tie weird
- 2:34with, and share your life with that's their business, your
- 2:37business, you know, your hall, your call to sort of reference.
- 2:42A very famous catchphrase from a good friend of mine.
- 2:46Mr. Eric, shervin over at the Ravens call?
- 2:49If you haven't yet, please check out his content.
- 2:52Over on YouTube as well. But anyway, the thing that I
- 2:56wanted to talk about today with regards to codifying Heathen re,
- 3:00or any attempts to do. So is probably one of the
- 3:05biggest and most popular attempts and and gestures to
- 3:10codify Heathen re is the infamous, you know, nine Noble
- 3:15virtues. I've talked a bit about my
- 3:21opinion of the nine Noble virtues on this channel.
- 3:23If you are watching this on YouTube, check out the annotated
- 3:27cards that you'll see. Occasionally pop up one of those
- 3:31will be a card to direct you to that video.
- 3:34Where I talked about the nine Noble virtues.
- 3:36We're going to refer to them as the nnv going forward, so make
- 3:42sure that you, if you haven't yet already, you know, check out
- 3:45that video. I already kind of went to what I
- 3:48think about the nnv but to sort of summarize it here for this
- 3:56video. I don't necessarily think that
- 4:00they're horrible. You know, they are if you've not
- 4:04seen them before, as you can see here on your screen, it is, you
- 4:07know, courage, truth, honor Fidelity discipline, Hospitality
- 4:13self-reliance, industriousness and perseverance.
- 4:18Now, these are all great, you know, moral codes, right, or
- 4:22things that you could apply to your life and that can be
- 4:27applied to almost any Walk of Life.
- 4:28Not even a heathen view or Heathen approach to living that
- 4:34will probably make a make you look like an upstanding
- 4:38individual and make you look pretty, you know, morally,
- 4:41upright. But are they inherently Heathen?
- 4:44No, no, they're not. And I've talked about that in
- 4:47the other in. My previous video about the, the
- 4:50nnv, what? The n?
- 4:52N VR are a very, very modern construct, right?
- 4:59And they are, you know, moral codes of conduct that are
- 5:05Loosely and kind of more or less pulled from some sources, where
- 5:15a lot of Norse heathens draw. Their information from namely,
- 5:20the have them all and there's another poetic Edda poem in the
- 5:27poetic Edda significant mom. So between the whole them all
- 5:31and security from all poems, in the poetic Edda, you know,
- 5:35somebody back in the 70s, codified this Collective I call
- 5:43them buzzwords, you know, and they were, they were codified.
- 5:48By the edenic, right? So there's connections to that
- 5:53organization that have, you know, a lot of fascist and
- 5:57racist, and bigoted, approaches to things.
- 6:00So, the association that the nnv have to the edenic right?
- 6:05Also, leaves a bit of a sour taste in old and many heathens
- 6:10mouths, right? Myself included.
- 6:12Now, again, like I said, our the nnv necessarily wrong obviously,
- 6:18It's great to be courageous to speak the truth to maintain
- 6:21honor Fidelity. Discipline, be hospitable hosts
- 6:25and guests. You know, things that you can do
- 6:28to be self-reliant. The things that you can do to be
- 6:32industrious and to persevere. Like these are all great things,
- 6:35they're not inherently Heathen. And the problem that I
- 6:39particularly have is that this these moral codes or any attempt
- 6:44to codify human re, right? And when I say, codify I am
- 6:48talking about the attempt to You know, set up a code or a law or
- 6:58to make a digest of and arranged in a systematic, sort of way,
- 7:04any sort of, you know, law. Now I'm going to be talking a
- 7:09little bit later on in this video as we as we move along
- 7:12that there is a place for law. There is a definite place for
- 7:15Law and hearing but I don't think that it fits into this
- 7:20codification method that has been Very recently, by a lot of
- 7:28us, a tour or modern-day heathens that are trying to find
- 7:32their way in, even re it's again.
- 7:36It's a nice kind of think of think about when, you know about
- 7:41these moral codes but they're there.
- 7:45They are very, very modern taken from very, very questionable
- 7:51characters. You know, the sources that they
- 7:53come from, yes, they may be coming from Some places they
- 7:55call them all and singular from all.
- 7:57And those, you know what we would consider process, possibly
- 8:01primary sources for for Heathen rebut their the connection that
- 8:06they have to the organic right? And the racist connections and
- 8:10all that. It's just, it's not great.
- 8:12So anyway, getting away from that.
- 8:13I think I've beat that horse to death.
- 8:15Well enough, you understand where I'm coming from here?
- 8:18I do want to talk about though that, you know, to have law to
- 8:24have something. To focus on moral codes, that
- 8:28sort of thing. It's not even so much moral
- 8:32codes. It's the launch is something
- 8:35that you have to have a least, a basic understanding of even
- 8:41worldview-2 to get what it is and I'm saying and we're going
- 8:46to take a look at that a little bit in depth.
- 8:49Now, as we go into this further discussion, All right.
- 8:54So now as I have, you know, talked many times on this
- 8:57channel before, I've made reference to a book that I
- 9:01highly recommend anybody who's wanting to get into Heathen re
- 9:04and take it seriously. A very, very helpful book for me
- 9:08to help develop my own worldview was a book written by are
- 9:12quoting called. We are our Deeds, okay?
- 9:16And what it does, is it goes over some of the moral and
- 9:20ethics and things that existed pre-christian times.
- 9:24Times with the Germanic people of Northern Europe.
- 9:28So one of the things that stands out to me when we're talking
- 9:33about codifying heathen rewrite, should we have these buzzwords?
- 9:38We have these things that you say that everybody, no matter
- 9:42what approach to Heathen re they have is something that they
- 9:46should be following. Is that even a thing?
- 9:49Can that be done with an even re?
- 9:51And I don't think it can. I don't think that we can an
- 9:54globalize and make even re something so generic and
- 9:58Universal that it can be summed up into nine buzzwords or nine
- 10:04moral codes of conduct, right? We have to understand a and have
- 10:12an understanding of a heathen world view.
- 10:15And Erik Walden's book, we are. These does help in educating us
- 10:21about that, one of the things that we learn about.
- 10:25Was the concept of things like law, but and things such as or
- 10:30words, such as Sin. And I want to talk a bit about
- 10:34Sin and from a heathen context because it's going to help kind
- 10:38of bring into. It's going to help relate
- 10:44everything, it's gonna help, correlate, everything.
- 10:45What I'm saying about right now and where I think law fits into
- 10:49tehillim, so sin has a place in history and for a lot of newer
- 10:53heater That of maybe come from Christianity.
- 10:56And they have a certain view about what sin is, you know,
- 11:00maybe they have a pre conceived meaning of the word and maybe
- 11:04they're reading a bunch of books now, as they're getting involved
- 11:09in Heathen, re that have been penned by authors who really
- 11:13have no interest in the actual truth of heathen or either.
- 11:15Just, you know, either trying to make a buck or writing their own
- 11:19feelings. It is something that exists and
- 11:25has a place in Heathen re talking about Sin, right?
- 11:30Some folks May that are new to, he there, he may perhaps be
- 11:34dismayed to learn that, while the Heathen approach to sin,
- 11:38kind of differs the fundamental aspects of it, and what it means
- 11:43Remains the Same, right? Because to Sin from a human
- 11:46perspective, it is to trans, get transgressor to go against
- 11:53divine. Right.
- 11:55And that's because if you are violating Divine Law, the
- 12:01compliance with which right clients with Divine Law, is what
- 12:05it is vital to the foundations of a healthy and long and strong
- 12:10surviving tried. All right, we're going to get
- 12:13into some of the dynamic of kievan reunited is tribal at its
- 12:18core and that is the backbone of Steven Rios is tribal approach.
- 12:24Only when a tribe really begins to fully pick up and grasp, the
- 12:28sacred elements present in the roots of their respective inner
- 12:32circles or enter yards, or even guarded.
- 12:35And what that means is when a beneficial relationship with the
- 12:38sacred, or with the Divine, with our God's can be secured and
- 12:46maintained, right? So, as order is established, As
- 12:55things are established with a tribe of, this is what we're
- 12:59going to do, this is how we're going to do it.
- 13:01The anatomy of that tribal body begins to take place.
- 13:05That is the shape and the form of the tribe is becoming evident
- 13:10those Customs that are, you know, set up by the people that
- 13:17are developing that tribe or how the tribes me about it.
- 13:20Is that as those Customs begin to, you know, awesome.
- 13:24Into the bones of Tribal Law. It's going to allow those
- 13:30blowing in the tribe to continue forward in a harmonious sort of
- 13:36way. Everybody is going to understand
- 13:38that. This is how the tribe functions
- 13:41and this is how our society, our our our Collective, our group is
- 13:45going to function successfully, write every issue that arises
- 13:51every problem that's encountered.
- 13:53There's a loss that in place and if there's a law that's created
- 13:56to address and deal with it in a good and wholesome sort of way
- 14:04within the tribe and then the bones of the tribe will reflect
- 14:06the structure and pattern of. And it's unrelenting nature of a
- 14:11primal law, right? Which is where we start thinking
- 14:15about things like order log. The things that have been laid
- 14:18down that layer in the, Well, from our, from our ancestors
- 14:21that were that we're pulling from Doing this.
- 14:26The tribe is had it at its core, it's imbuing.
- 14:29The bones or these laws as it were with some sort of with us
- 14:33with an element of sacredness. It puts it puts them in
- 14:38connection with the divine So law has to be developed and
- 14:42that's where the the difference between these Buzz words.
- 14:45These what I'm saying, codifying even re I don't mean that there
- 14:49shouldn't be law. There shouldn't be ordered or
- 14:51shouldn't be, you know, those sorts of things.
- 14:54But what I'm saying is that, that law and that order is
- 14:56developed at the tribal level, that's not something that is
- 14:59universally spouted out with these, you know, courage, honor
- 15:03Fidelity, you know, industriousness these just basic
- 15:07moral codes of conduct that Nope, didn't have to exist in
- 15:12our cheating times for society to function.
- 15:14They just can't they just were that by doing what they did and
- 15:18being the way they were, So when when Tribal Law is developed,
- 15:23then we have what comes from law is through the Traditions, the
- 15:28things that binds the tribe. It's kind of like the sinew that
- 15:32allows the tribe to live in peace with their laws, right?
- 15:36Those Traditions, those those things that exist and that have
- 15:39existed for so long, if the tribe has been around for so, so
- 15:43very long that or log again, that we were talking about
- 15:45before that layer in the well, that is being pulled from Again,
- 15:51the few becomes like that seen you wear that binding agent,
- 15:54that that allows a child to live in peace with those laws without
- 15:59breaching or breaking any. It's the custom that that is so
- 16:04flexible that it allows the body of the tribe to not shatter,
- 16:11right? It's not so I guess stringent or
- 16:15or fragile that it's easily broken there.
- 16:20There's some flexibility and the, the analogy that I'm giving
- 16:23of like sinew, right? So when law and through take
- 16:32form within the tribe, there's an undeniable existence.
- 16:37You can't ignore this. These concepts of things that
- 16:41are good and evil. So what it what would be
- 16:44considered sin for tribe if you're committed and what would
- 16:48be considered, right? So those things are, they did
- 16:52just kind of get formed and become part of They become a
- 16:59parent to everything that it's good and right.
- 17:01And if it's what benefits, the tribe and allows the tribe to
- 17:04thrive, then to violate anything that the anything that would
- 17:08hurt that is consumed, be considered sin.
- 17:10And so the law, right? Or the film is developed at the
- 17:15tribal level. It's not again, something that
- 17:17just is, you know, broadly universally kind of Given by,
- 17:27you know, a nice Facebook post or a fancy you know plaque that
- 17:32you can hang on your wall. And you know say well these are
- 17:35the codes that I live by and it's you know you're limiting
- 17:38yourself at that point. It's like well I would hope that
- 17:41you as an individual are industrious enough and that it
- 17:45you as an individual are, you know, Maintaining your honor and
- 17:52a good reputation with your folks and that you are
- 17:56discipline to control certain things in your life and to not,
- 18:01you know, and then to also be, you know, hospitable guest or
- 18:03hospitable hosts like again, these are all things that sure
- 18:06they're great but they're not. I keep going back to this.
- 18:11You're saying, it's all they are.
- 18:12Is they're buzzwords, right? It's something to just make you
- 18:16feel good about it. So when I, you know, talked
- 18:19about in this in the title of this video that, you know,
- 18:22codifying Heathen re don't do it, you know what I mean by that
- 18:26is that there's there's more too.
- 18:33Moral code, if there's more to it than just those, those
- 18:36individual words, right? And I don't care really how it
- 18:40gets change and others. I've seen some things online
- 18:45going around where you know people want to take away from
- 18:49the nnv or will get away from the nnv because of its, you
- 18:54know, connections with the oh zdenek, right?
- 18:56And that's where they were codified.
- 18:58And that's the connection that they have.
- 19:00They want to get away from that. And yet, They come up with a
- 19:04whole new set of nine virtues or nine you know things to live by
- 19:11codes of conduct moral codes or whatever.
- 19:13It's like so you're not you're not you're exchanging one for
- 19:17something that really doesn't have any greater or better or
- 19:20better value, you know. All right so cool.
- 19:23You get a neat little picture to hang on your wall and point out
- 19:26to people and say yeah that's what I live by.
- 19:30Okay, well, what do you need a plaque on that on the wall to
- 19:33say that? And you know, without naming
- 19:37names or calling anybody out if it works for you?
- 19:41If if that's what works for your tribe for your group, for your
- 19:44organization, for whatever than great, if that's what works for
- 19:49you. It doesn't, it doesn't sit with
- 19:51me as being an effective approach to Heathen ring because
- 19:56I my particular view in the way I approach Heathen, Rihanna Some
- 20:00of the other people around and in my life that approach even
- 20:03realize that it's delving deeper into a world view, it's not just
- 20:09yeah, I'm going to be courageous, I'm going to be
- 20:10disciplined, I'm going to be self-reliant, I'm going to be,
- 20:13you know, hospitable. It's those are all things that
- 20:16become part of who we are, as we cultivate and develop and
- 20:21nourish our worldview. So, When I say in the tile
- 20:28again, when I say in this video that it's, you know, don't don't
- 20:31codify even, we shouldn't be codifying even right to that
- 20:35end. I would say that if it, you
- 20:36know, again, if it works for you and if it fits your approach,
- 20:41hey, who am I to say? It's wrong?
- 20:44You know, it's your haul, your call, not my haul, not my call,
- 20:48but for me, and for those around me who I share anti weird with
- 20:54it goes, It goes Way Beyond. Just those simple words.
- 20:59I hope that this has given a lot of people, some things to think
- 21:02about and I hope that you are considering if you haven't yet
- 21:06already getting a copy of, we are our Deeds by are quoting
- 21:12yourself. I've recommended it a number of
- 21:14times in a lot of videos. and I've You know, I'm not a door
- 21:23store, anything by, you know, the publisher or anything like
- 21:26that. So don't get me wrong.
- 21:28It's not like I'm seeing any sort of kick back for
- 21:31recommending. It is just, I think it really
- 21:32does help with people's approach to Heathen rien as they come
- 21:37into. Even as they start learning
- 21:38things. It's more than just You know,
- 21:42fancy graphics on your wall or on your timeline or on social
- 21:46media. It's more than just these words
- 21:49that make you feel good. It's way more complex than that.
- 21:53And I think that if people take that approach, not to say that,
- 21:58you know, you have to go full 100% historically
- 22:02Reconstructionist with your Heathen re, but that, if you
- 22:06delve a bit into it, and if you take some time to learn about
- 22:11the way, Things were done by our ancestors and to use it to, you
- 22:14know, try to think of a good word.
- 22:18But if you take historical heat and refuting, if you approach
- 22:22Heathen re from a historically based approach, you know,
- 22:27concept, you're going to see a lot of things that if it worked
- 22:31back, then it can work now and you can apply it to a modern or
- 22:36add a modern twist to it. What I've tried to do, you know?
- 22:41Taking historical even practices and making, you know, adding
- 22:47some Modern and taking the modern inventions and applying
- 22:51it there so it works, it has worked for me, maybe it works
- 22:54for you. But I am curious to know what
- 22:57your thoughts and what your approaches to all this.
- 23:01Hopefully the ramblings that I've gone on for, you know, in
- 23:04the last 20-30 minutes or whatever.
- 23:06It's been have really you know, shed some light on things.
- 23:11Again, I'm not knocking anybody or putting anybody, or their
- 23:14organizations, or their groups, or anything down.
- 23:16If that's what you, that's what makes it work for you.
- 23:19If your tribe has certain words that you have have built into
- 23:26your tribal through great. That's what makes the tribe work
- 23:31but it's more than that it's yes, there's there's words to it
- 23:34but it's more than just those singular words and things behind
- 23:37them. It's it goes deeper than that in
- 23:39my opinion. So, Anyways, that's today's
