- 0:27Speaker 2: Holy Grail Donuts?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Did she get all up in that donut?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Well, we got there and I just walked in. I
- 0:34Speaker 2: didn't try and be like I'm the guy from the donut.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I just walked in like a normal customer. And the
- 0:41Speaker 2: young lady at the cashier rang me up. And then
- 0:43Speaker 2: some of her colleagues were like, why are you charging him?
- 0:46Speaker 2: That's Zach from ZB and donald Forever the donut And
- 0:52Speaker 2: I said, no, no, no, I want to pay. I want
- 0:54Speaker 2: to give money to the charity. So don't you comp
- 0:57Speaker 2: me these donuts proceeds they are going to the midnight mission.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So how's the donut doing? That's the question I really
- 1:05Speaker 1: want to ask.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I hope that people are loving the donut and it
- 1:09Speaker 2: tasted delicious.
- 1:10Speaker 3: By the way.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It's it's very tasty.
- 1:13Speaker 2: My lady friend said, I think that's the best doughnut
- 1:16Speaker 2: I've ever had.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I like your lady friend a lot.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I'm surprised you haven't come met her. We'll see, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: it's early days. We'll see if you get to meet her.
- 1:26Speaker 2: If she makes the donald cut.
- 1:29Speaker 1: It's a tough cut.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But it's a cool hat, right is. It's corduroy, it's
- 1:34Speaker 2: yellow rock. This this is very danal in Brooklyn vibes absolutely.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I was looking at it. I was like, that is
- 1:41Speaker 3: a very cool hat. I was just that. Holy girl, donu,
- 1:43Speaker 3: it's a couple weeks ago.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Did you get zb and Donalds forever? I? Oh, you're
- 1:48Speaker 2: in New York.
- 1:48Speaker 3: You can't go.
- 1:49Speaker 2: No, you haven't branched out to New York yet, but
- 1:53Speaker 2: one day.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think. I think I just stopped it and
- 1:56Speaker 3: didn't actually get something good.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I know I'm biased, but it is so good, so delicious.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Scrumped dittly umptious is what I am.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I didn't sleep very well last night. I had a
- 2:07Speaker 2: bout of insomnia. So I thought if I I just
- 2:09Speaker 2: did a cold plunge, and I thought if I wore
- 2:11Speaker 2: bright colors. I would be really awake for this podcast.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Wait a minute, what do you mean you didn't sleep
- 2:16Speaker 1: very well? So you cold plunged.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I had some nights I have bouts of insomnia where
- 2:22Speaker 2: I toss and turn no matter what I do, and
- 2:24Speaker 2: I wanted to be, you know, awake and lively for
- 2:29Speaker 2: the podcast, so I got in my cold plunge.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Got it. I thought you were saying you were having
- 2:35Speaker 1: a hard time sleeping, so to battle that last night,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you decided to cold plunge.
- 2:42Speaker 2: No, that would not have worked done.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I don't think I was gonna say, dude, I think
- 2:46Speaker 1: your math's a little often that uh, and that nights.
- 2:49Speaker 2: My brain is just like, we're not doing it, bro.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I know you tried all the things I did, all
- 2:52Speaker 2: the things I took, I did all my whole regimen
- 2:55Speaker 2: to fucking go to bed, and my brain was like, no,
- 2:57Speaker 2: we're gonna fucking think till two thirty in the morning.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Did you have something to do the next day?
- 3:02Speaker 2: No, I just had a couple of things on my mind.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I also do think I need to chill with caffeine.
- 3:07Speaker 2: To be honest, I think I gotta do an earlier
- 3:09Speaker 2: caffeine cut off. That's do you have a caffeine cut off?
- 3:14Speaker 3: You know, Daniel, you do, Yeah, definitely.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I I'm learning as a fifty year old man that
- 3:23Speaker 1: the caffeine, it does, it does it. I don't even
- 3:28Speaker 1: think it wakes me up anymore, you know what I mean.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It doesn't do.
- 3:32Speaker 3: It's just an addiction. It feels nice.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's yeah, that's what it is. You just like
- 3:36Speaker 1: that little jitter that you get and the bow movement
- 3:39Speaker 1: that it causes.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I know, when we're on set, you and I both
- 3:43Speaker 2: have many years of being like, oh shit, we're tired,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and we got to go be silly and wacky and
- 3:48Speaker 2: fucking go crazy, and we both blast our bodies with caffeine.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And that's fine on set, but when I'm home and
- 3:57Speaker 2: it's just like you know, it'll be like two thirds
- 4:00Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh man, I'm gonna make myself a
- 4:02Speaker 2: big ass espresso and I just don't need to be
- 4:06Speaker 2: having it that late in the day.
- 4:07Speaker 3: For me. I got to stop at like noon.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I think, ain't I mean, ain't nothing wrong with an
- 4:12Speaker 1: espresso at noon. But that's just me. That's with you.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But you don't suffer from something. But also you smoke.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I do.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Gonja does the ganjit put you to bed?
- 4:20Speaker 1: It keeps you up? Actually, what happens is the ganju
- 4:22Speaker 1: can knock you down.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well maybe if you don't, you're not switching
- 4:25Speaker 2: to the right, you're not switching to what he calls.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So yeah, I smoke. I smoke ta teva not into
- 4:30Speaker 1: gup right. I like the I like the feeling of being.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I like the caffeine feeling of it. Right, And what
- 4:36Speaker 1: happens is, I'll go to bed early, but I'll but
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'll also wake up early. So if I go to bed,
- 4:42Speaker 1: it like, I'll try to go down sometimes right when
- 4:45Speaker 1: the kids go down. So sometimes the kids go down
- 4:46Speaker 1: to day thirty. I'll try and be in bed at nine.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And when I do shit like that, I'll wake up
- 4:51Speaker 1: at like three thirty, four thirty in the morning.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Whoa that's ready to go.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, ready to go to smoke some more weed.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And so yeah, I hear you.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Well, I try I try everything. I try natural remedies,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I try prescription remedies, and then the prescription ones. Sometimes
- 5:10Speaker 2: you feel the next day and so you're tired, and
- 5:14Speaker 2: I don't know, it's just something a battle. But you know,
- 5:17Speaker 2: it's not that big a deal.
- 5:18Speaker 3: It's not.
- 5:19Speaker 2: It's people have much bigger problems than on insomnia.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Well, I mean it can lead to a lot of things,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and so you know I I I don't sleep well, bro,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I just don't. That's just what it is.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah, do you see this mustache I'm trying to grow.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Oh, look at that. What do you think of coming
- 5:39Speaker 3: in I'm trying to grow a mustache.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Looks like you got some like like you drink some
- 5:44Speaker 1: and you have some shit on your lip.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Must Oh you're saying, my mustache looks like ship on
- 5:50Speaker 2: my lip.
- 5:50Speaker 1: It looks like you went like this actually sound effects machine.
- 5:54Speaker 3: It's good. Listen.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I want to see what I can do with this mustache.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Donald you you both. I'm talking to two men with
- 6:01Speaker 2: glorious mustaches.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I do have a great mustache.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Channel's beard, man, that's very full.
- 6:07Speaker 1: That's very impressive.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Speaking of full beards, I went to into its inoit
- 6:12Speaker 2: Dome and watched.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The Clippers play how does full Oh? Because I've met
- 6:21Speaker 1: great job, James Harden job.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I've never seen a more glorious beard than James.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Nice segue, my guy.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It's very beautiful. First of all, it's all state of
- 6:34Speaker 2: the art. The whole I think they call it the
- 6:36Speaker 2: halo of screens is really cool. It seems smaller than
- 6:41Speaker 2: other arenas. I think, I don't know how many its seats,
- 6:44Speaker 2: but it does. It's certainly not nearly as.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Big as Staples.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But like they said, they have the wall, like the
- 6:51Speaker 2: seats are very steep, so everyone has a pretty sick view.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And that's always good.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And you know, I don't know if the Jazz and
- 7:02Speaker 2: the and the Clippers, if that was a particularly good matchup, Donald,
- 7:07Speaker 2: did you watch the game?
- 7:09Speaker 1: You know what? I just saw the blowout that was
- 7:12Speaker 1: the Jazz and the Clippers. Clippers destroyed them, and then
- 7:16Speaker 1: the next night went out and beat Golden State by three.
- 7:20Speaker 1: James Harden is now second on the all time three
- 7:24Speaker 1: point scoring list. There's only one other person on that
- 7:27Speaker 1: list that's above him, and that person is Steph Curry
- 7:30Speaker 1: and they're both in the league right now.
- 7:32Speaker 2: So James Harden is really good.
- 7:35Speaker 1: James Harden at one point, I mean he's top seventy five.
- 7:39Speaker 1: James Harden at one point was the best offensive weapon
- 7:47Speaker 1: in the NBA at one point, for like three seasons straight.
- 7:51Speaker 1: He developed uh, he you know, he paid attention to
- 7:56Speaker 1: the rules of the game and developed let me see
- 8:00Speaker 1: what what I call it, I found a loophole and
- 8:04Speaker 1: has now developed this thing called I mean, the step
- 8:07Speaker 1: back was always there, but now because of this, what's
- 8:10Speaker 1: called a gather in the NBA. After you you gather,
- 8:14Speaker 1: you're allowed two steps. And he found a way to
- 8:18Speaker 1: turn his gather from his bounce behind a three point
- 8:22Speaker 1: line into a step side to side, which is now
- 8:27Speaker 1: legal in the NBA, which was never legal, and it's
- 8:31Speaker 1: and he was able to score so many fucking points
- 8:34Speaker 1: doing that and freaking throwing his body into defenders and
- 8:40Speaker 1: getting fouled. Oh my god. At one point nobody could
- 8:45Speaker 1: score in clips like him, And still to this day
- 8:48Speaker 1: he's pretty good.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Can I tell you something I noticed from sitting on
- 8:52Speaker 2: the floor that I never noticed before. It seems like
- 8:56Speaker 2: everybody's traveling. Now, maybe I don't understand the traveling rules.
- 8:59Speaker 1: You're right, so it seems to me when you're.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Sitting on the court, you're like the little I remember
- 9:05Speaker 2: of of of basketball rules, like, isn't that traveling? But
- 9:09Speaker 2: then people are like, no, you're allowed to do all
- 9:11Speaker 2: the ship You're saying.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, the rules change. That a lot of a
- 9:15Speaker 1: lot of things changed since we were kids.
- 9:17Speaker 2: People are just running. It's like it's like it's literally
- 9:20Speaker 2: it's like it's.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Like dog ball and no and no and no touching either,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and no touching you like you're not allowed to. Really.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Back when we were kids, you could take your hand
- 9:31Speaker 1: and put it in the back of a player.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Or no, these guys.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Let me finish, and you would be able to if
- 9:37Speaker 1: you were strong enough, you could control any player. Now,
- 9:41Speaker 1: if you put your hands on somebody, it's a file
- 9:43Speaker 1: automatically right and so right. So you have to move
- 9:47Speaker 1: your feet, you have to use your body, and and
- 9:50Speaker 1: and and they're still following each other. But refs don't
- 9:53Speaker 1: call it like I mean, they never called it back
- 9:56Speaker 1: in the day. But it's a little bit softer than
- 9:58Speaker 1: it was. I'm not saying it's soft.
- 10:00Speaker 2: So you're saying, after you have the ball you can
- 10:03Speaker 2: take two full steps.
- 10:05Speaker 1: No, you can you after you have the ball, you're
- 10:08Speaker 1: supposed to only be able to take a step after
- 10:12Speaker 1: you've put the ball down to drift.
- 10:14Speaker 3: That's not happening.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm telling you your report, that's not what's happening. Absolutely not,
- 10:20Speaker 1: absolutely not.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And there actually was one traveling call, and I was like,
- 10:24Speaker 2: you called that one, but not the forty others have seen.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's various, stute Zach. Actually that's various because basketball.
- 10:32Speaker 1: That's the one complaint I do have with basketball. Giannis
- 10:36Speaker 1: Entertakoumpo gets to run up and down the court like
- 10:39Speaker 1: a deer and never put the ball down on the floor.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yeah, speaking of a stute Zach, you were right. Crypto
- 10:47Speaker 4: dot Com Arena Staples if you will, has a twenty
- 10:49Speaker 4: thousand person cap into a dome has eighteen so okay justice. Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 4: and then I heard and then I heard when they
- 10:55Speaker 4: do concerts there, which you know they just opened, they
- 10:59Speaker 4: remove a like a big chunk because of where they
- 11:03Speaker 4: put the stage stage.
- 11:06Speaker 1: So.
- 11:07Speaker 2: It's even less. But it seems like an amazing place
- 11:10Speaker 2: to see a show because of just all the different
- 11:13Speaker 2: vantage points.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Think about all the venues California has. Now, Like if
- 11:18Speaker 1: you're doing a tour you have like seven stops in California.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You gotta do state. I mean, you gotta do shoots.
- 11:27Speaker 2: By how big you are, how much you can handle.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I think Olivia Rigo was there recently.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I would try to do all of them. I'd be like, look,
- 11:34Speaker 1: this is what we're doing when we get to.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Shoot your la wand I shoot it at one place
- 11:40Speaker 2: because people aren't going to.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Harry Styles was here for a month.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Bro Car members here. Yeah, but they do the same
- 11:47Speaker 2: venue over and over again. Anyway, it was really cool.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And they have this private you know how like that
- 11:53Speaker 2: we talked about the Disney h Secret Club. They have
- 11:57Speaker 2: a secret club. Yeah, they have like a secret club
- 12:00Speaker 2: underneath the and that I got invited to.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And it's not.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Open every game or every show, but like I don't know,
- 12:08Speaker 2: like once a month or something, or maybe after concerts
- 12:13Speaker 2: they'll do it too. There's like a secret underground club.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Did you go?
- 12:17Speaker 3: I went? It was cool.
- 12:19Speaker 1: DJ.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It was just like it's like a it's like a
- 12:22Speaker 2: small hidden nightclub that you can only by invite only.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And then they told me this bit of trivia that
- 12:29Speaker 2: I don't know if it's true, but it's they said
- 12:31Speaker 2: it that it's the only place in California that will
- 12:34Speaker 2: serve liquor till four in the morning legally, like they
- 12:37Speaker 2: got some waiver from the governor that this little secret
- 12:42Speaker 2: nightclub at the bottom of the dome is the only
- 12:45Speaker 2: place that you can drink till four in the morning.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Bomber's smart man. He's trying to keep his players close.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He's trying to make sure.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Well, the players didn't come in there. I mean I
- 12:55Speaker 2: didn't see any players.
- 12:56Speaker 1: At four o'clock in the morning.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It was like a VIP you know, clerb.
- 13:02Speaker 1: These were there celebrities up in there.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, there was some celebrity.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Was grown ups. Clippers bring in a grown crowd.
- 13:13Speaker 2: What's the different, Like, who's the crowd for the Clippers?
- 13:16Speaker 1: I would say the ones that don't go to Laker games.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Oh really, it's like the they're like the they're like
- 13:22Speaker 2: the step child.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, yes, now.
- 13:25Speaker 2: But Lakers Clippers games will be great.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Right, Oh, it depends me. Look, so here's the thing.
- 13:34Speaker 1: The Clippers haven't won in a really really really I
- 13:37Speaker 1: think Bill Walton was the last time the Clippers won,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and they were in San Diego when they won a championship.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Even when you go see the Clippers play the Lakers
- 13:47Speaker 1: in this arena, it'll be filled with more Laker fans
- 13:51Speaker 1: than Clipper fans.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It's just far, by the way.
- 13:53Speaker 2: The only thing I have a problem with it is
- 13:55Speaker 2: far Inglewood well from my house it was an hour
- 13:59Speaker 2: I don't know, really far from your house.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Well, we make that. We make tracks like that for basketball,
- 14:05Speaker 1: for the kid, right, for rock and so it. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: forty five minutes in the car now nowadays.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Well, if you want to bring your kids, uh to
- 14:15Speaker 2: the to Clippers. I got the I got the hook up.
- 14:18Speaker 1: We would love that.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Actually, I know.
- 14:19Speaker 1: The night's game was amazing.
- 14:21Speaker 2: When I showed you my seats, you said you you
- 14:24Speaker 2: acted like they weren't good.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And then I said, then you get you were like
- 14:29Speaker 1: just kidding. Yeah, exactly, don't fucking make me.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Who was there was Floyd may Merriweather Mayweather Mayweatherwe Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He's one of the greatest boxers ever.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I want him to fight Jake Paul.
- 14:42Speaker 1: No, no, he's too old too, he thought.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Loganol, right, Yeah, did you win?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Did well? Yeah? He did. Knocked that nigga, he knocked
- 14:52Speaker 1: He knocked that nigg out, Yeah he did. He knocked
- 14:54Speaker 1: him out and then held him up. He punched them
- 14:56Speaker 1: motherfucker hard and then held him and then low Logan
- 15:00Speaker 1: woke up and then they continued to fight. Kind of
- 15:02Speaker 1: all right, So I got it. Let's let's talk about
- 15:05Speaker 1: this before we bring our guests in.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't have a ton of time, so let's
- 15:09Speaker 2: get in there.
- 15:09Speaker 1: We got to get into it, all right.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Keep in mind this is going to air long after
- 15:13Speaker 2: the fight was on, so don't bore people.
- 15:15Speaker 1: But no doubt ahead. What did you think of the fight?
- 15:18Speaker 2: I thought I was surprised by by Mike. I thought
- 15:20Speaker 2: he was going to be better the hype videos that
- 15:23Speaker 2: they showed. I know, they're just clips and they can
- 15:25Speaker 2: cut anything together, but he looked he looked stronger and
- 15:28Speaker 2: more confident in the hype videos, and I was surprised
- 15:31Speaker 2: by how old and fragile he looked in the ring,
- 15:35Speaker 2: and I and and Jake Paul. I saw him even
- 15:38Speaker 2: say at the end like I let up because I
- 15:40Speaker 2: didn't want to hurt.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Him, and I applaud him for that also because at
- 15:45Speaker 1: one point he was just fighting an old man. Dude.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's that's one point.
- 15:50Speaker 1: No, I don't know. In the beginning, Mike seemed like
- 15:53Speaker 1: he was ready to go, and then they clinched, and
- 15:56Speaker 1: then after the clinch, Mike kind of softened up in
- 15:59Speaker 1: every thing like that, But in the beginning before Jake
- 16:02Speaker 1: put the weight on him. In the beginning, oh, my god.
- 16:05Speaker 1: There was like a good thirty seconds where I was like,
- 16:09Speaker 1: this is gonna be a fight, and then everything kind of.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I've seen I punched a few times. Mike didn't look good.
- 16:17Speaker 1: At all, but he didn't get knocked out, which is great,
- 16:20Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, and I applaud Jake
- 16:22Speaker 1: Paul for backing off towards the end and not trying
- 16:25Speaker 1: to you know. And then what was disturbing was listening
- 16:29Speaker 1: to Jake Paul's trainer's being and I get it, it's boxing,
- 16:33Speaker 1: this is what it is. But Jake's bought Jake Paul's
- 16:37Speaker 1: trainers saying, come on, man, knock Mike out. Go at
- 16:41Speaker 1: that motherfucker. Beat Mike's ass. It was just like, wait
- 16:44Speaker 1: a second, dude.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That was Rosie Perez, the commentator.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You know, she's from Brooklyn. She she knows about them
- 16:50Speaker 1: hand pieces.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I just didn't understand the connection. I mean, I love
- 16:54Speaker 2: Rosie Perez.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I didn't understand then, you know about a two piece
- 16:57Speaker 1: and a biscuit?
- 16:59Speaker 2: Did you? Could you get in there and and fight?
- 17:02Speaker 1: No? Okay, I fight for my family and I fight
- 17:06Speaker 1: for my life. I don't fight for I mean, unless
- 17:09Speaker 1: I was getting twenty million dollars and if anyway, hold up,
- 17:12Speaker 1: and if Jake Paul was gonna take it easy on
- 17:13Speaker 1: me like that, yes, for.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Twenty million dollars, would you fight Jake Paul too?
- 17:18Speaker 1: And he was going to fight like that and not
- 17:20Speaker 1: try and knock me out and humiliate me?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Well, no, I think he's going to try and knock
- 17:24Speaker 2: you out because you're.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Not bro are twenty million? Well, let me think about
- 17:29Speaker 1: a twenty million. Yeah, you got to think about the concussion. Yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'm he trains every day.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's really committed. I don't know the guy. I
- 17:40Speaker 2: don't know the guy from Adam, but he looks like
- 17:42Speaker 2: a good boxer to me.
- 17:43Speaker 1: He's heavier than I am.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I really like the movie and Nora. I really want
- 17:47Speaker 2: to highly recommend that to my.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Friend since we are recommending movies. Okay, tell me about Anura.
- 17:53Speaker 2: On Nora is an incredible movie. I'm speechless. It's just
- 17:59Speaker 2: this girl. Her name is is it Mikey Madison Daniel?
- 18:03Speaker 2: Let me check, let me get her name right. But
- 18:06Speaker 2: she is just a phenomenal actress. She was on Better
- 18:08Speaker 2: Things as a as a young teenage girl and now
- 18:12Speaker 2: she's a young woman. And the movie is sort of
- 18:16Speaker 2: a Cinderella story about the son of a Russian oligarch
- 18:20Speaker 2: and he falls in love with this woman who's a
- 18:22Speaker 2: stripper and a sex worker, and then they get married.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I won't ruin anything that's not on the trailer. They
- 18:30Speaker 2: go get married, and then the Russian oligarch father and
- 18:33Speaker 2: his henchman fly into town to make sure that that
- 18:37Speaker 2: gets broken up. But it is really, really well acted
- 18:41Speaker 2: and I was blown away by it. Mikey Madison, Mikey
- 18:45Speaker 2: Madison is her name. She is so talented. I think
- 18:48Speaker 2: this young lady could win the Oscar. She is okay,
- 18:51Speaker 2: puhhenomenal a Nora, I was lucky enough to have the screener,
- 18:56Speaker 2: so I watched it at home. But it's it's still
- 18:58Speaker 2: playing in theaters or maybe by the time airs, it'll
- 19:00Speaker 2: be uh, it'll be streaming, right, Danell, because we're this
- 19:04Speaker 2: airs in January.
- 19:05Speaker 3: There's in January.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I bet it will be on your streaming platform. So
- 19:08Speaker 2: check just Nora A n O R. What do you
- 19:11Speaker 2: want to recommend?
- 19:12Speaker 3: Donald?
- 19:12Speaker 1: I watched two movies, believe it or not. Really what
- 19:15Speaker 1: I watched Saturday night?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Oh that's that's I didn't know that was available for
- 19:21Speaker 2: the streaming.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna be honest with you. These
- 19:25Speaker 1: young these young actors and actresses in this movie are
- 19:31Speaker 1: pretty good man at doing these Look. Man, it's very
- 19:36Speaker 1: interesting to watch a movie and see somebody who can
- 19:39Speaker 1: make you feel like, wow, that is dan Aykroyd or
- 19:41Speaker 1: wow that is Chevy Chase. Not necessarily I don't know
- 19:44Speaker 1: them personally, but my imagination of them or my interpretation
- 19:49Speaker 1: of them from watching them, these young men and women
- 19:53Speaker 1: did their thing, man like I was very It was
- 19:57Speaker 1: very impressive. And if this is a true story, Lauren
- 20:01Speaker 1: Michael's yout to real og man, you the.
- 20:03Speaker 2: True og I think it is a true story.
- 20:06Speaker 1: If it's a true story, I mean, I don't know much.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I don't know Lauren very well. I've met him once.
- 20:12Speaker 1: But dude, you are a g man. And way to
- 20:16Speaker 1: believe in your cast and way to believe in your
- 20:18Speaker 1: idea and wow, dude, wow.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna check that out. I can't believe you made
- 20:22Speaker 2: it through a non superhero movie. What's the other thing
- 20:24Speaker 2: you watched?
- 20:25Speaker 1: Alien Romulus, Let's go, let's go.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Do you really like that?
- 20:33Speaker 1: It's pretty good?
- 20:34Speaker 2: All right? Reid Scott is here. What a career this
- 20:39Speaker 2: guy's had. Dude, he works, he works, oh lot, got
- 20:43Speaker 2: a lot of good stories. He's on Deep and Mazel
- 20:47Speaker 2: and he's often known for playing the jerk. But I've
- 20:51Speaker 2: met him and he's a lovely man. Donald Countison for
- 20:54Speaker 2: Reid Scott.
- 21:00Speaker 5: We made about a bunch of dogs and I.
- 21:06Speaker 6: Said, he's the stormy neph So yetta here, yeada, here.
- 21:21Speaker 2: There is Look at you, Look at you. You're so handsome.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Are you home?
- 21:28Speaker 7: Are you working?
- 21:29Speaker 1: Where are you?
- 21:30Speaker 2: He's read Scott, He's always working. A guy's probably anybody.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I never have a time off.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I am. I'm in New York, Archer, I'm in New York.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Read Thanks for coming on, man. Donald and I both
- 21:44Speaker 2: find you very entertaining.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 21:47Speaker 1: You you work a lot, a.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Lot of How can you help?
- 21:51Speaker 2: Donald? And I get to understand.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I understand how this is possible? Bro? And is this
- 21:58Speaker 1: all an illusion? Like you work a lot in spurts
- 22:01Speaker 1: and all of a sudden you're Do you ever have
- 22:04Speaker 1: time off? That's the question?
- 22:06Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I mean I feel like any actor
- 22:10Speaker 7: you sort of you have the time off exactly when
- 22:12Speaker 7: you don't want it.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, So I don't want it now.
- 22:16Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, it comes and goes. I'm extremely grateful
- 22:20Speaker 7: that at the moment, I am busy. But you know,
- 22:23Speaker 7: look like anybody you know, during COVID code was rough
- 22:26Speaker 7: and the strike was rough, and I have a family.
- 22:33Speaker 7: I have a wife and two kids, so time off
- 22:35Speaker 7: is certainly important to me. But I think you know
- 22:39Speaker 7: right now, I like being busy. I wish I could
- 22:43Speaker 7: be busier at home. I'll be honest with that. It's
- 22:46Speaker 7: kind of a drag to always be on the road.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But yeah, now where do you based.
- 22:50Speaker 7: I'm based in La Okay.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Reid, we had Tony Hale on the show because
- 22:56Speaker 2: Donald and I both love VIEP so much and we
- 23:00Speaker 2: just we're so interested in the process. And I'm sure
- 23:03Speaker 2: you talked about this a thousand times, but please indulge us. Sure,
- 23:06Speaker 2: what was it like, because you know, when Donald and
- 23:08Speaker 2: I made scrubs, we would rehearse on the day and
- 23:12Speaker 2: we would we would find extra jokes and we were
- 23:14Speaker 2: allowed to improve and stuff. But the VEEP process sounds
- 23:17Speaker 2: like it was a little unique in that you guys
- 23:19Speaker 2: made you would rehearse beforehand, and then some of those
- 23:23Speaker 2: improvs would go into the script.
- 23:24Speaker 3: How did that?
- 23:25Speaker 2: How did that work?
- 23:26Speaker 7: The best way to describe it? And I love pulling
- 23:31Speaker 7: back the curtain on Veep and so many people it's
- 23:33Speaker 7: really interesting that so many people are interested in the
- 23:37Speaker 7: process of how we made Vieep, which I gotta be honest,
- 23:42Speaker 7: of all the other things I've done, no one's ever
- 23:45Speaker 7: really given a shit about the process.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Oh we are because we love comedy, dude.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean. And that was top
- 23:54Speaker 1: notch comedy. Yeah, everybody on that show was really incredible
- 23:59Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Uh, and the way it was
- 24:01Speaker 1: shot too, And so are we just wondering? Yeah, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 1: to get to to this, this is why this is.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I mean, that's why we're asking.
- 24:08Speaker 7: Sorry, Oh no, I love talking about it because it
- 24:11Speaker 7: was it was so unique. Honestly, I I think it's
- 24:14Speaker 7: something that you know, you guys obviously know comedy well,
- 24:17Speaker 7: so I think people that have an eye for comedy
- 24:20Speaker 7: can see that something was very different about how he
- 24:22Speaker 7: did Veep. And I think that's what sort of you know,
- 24:26Speaker 7: naturally leads to that question, what was the process? Like,
- 24:29Speaker 7: The best and easiest way that I have found to
- 24:33Speaker 7: describe it is it was a distillation process and or
- 24:37Speaker 7: Amanda y Nucci. Absolute genius, just comedy genius. He ran
- 24:44Speaker 7: our show like a laboratory and he was doctor Frankenstein
- 24:49Speaker 7: and we were all part of his experiment, and it
- 24:51Speaker 7: was really cool. He didn't really you know that there
- 24:53Speaker 7: was there was a lot of respect, and he led
- 24:56Speaker 7: us into the process in a way that actors don't
- 24:58Speaker 7: usually get let into the writing process of a show
- 25:01Speaker 7: like he let us in. But yeah, he would have
- 25:05Speaker 7: us come to London for weeks before we would start shooting,
- 25:11Speaker 7: some months before we were set to start shooting, and
- 25:15Speaker 7: there would be scripts and some sort of sketches and
- 25:18Speaker 7: some outlines of future episodes and we would just rehearse.
- 25:23Speaker 7: We would get it on his feet as quickly as possible,
- 25:28Speaker 7: talking through it. We would rehearse it as written, and
- 25:31Speaker 7: there'd be this sort of like phalanx of British writers
- 25:34Speaker 7: on the outside of this like large conference room that
- 25:37Speaker 7: we were in, and they're all like furiously like scribbling
- 25:39Speaker 7: notes and typing away while we're doing it, and you're
- 25:41Speaker 7: feeling very judged, Lisa in the early days, and we'd
- 25:47Speaker 7: be encouraged to improvise a bit and then we'd go away.
- 25:51Speaker 7: We'd go to you know, go out to dinner, you know,
- 25:53Speaker 7: go to sleep, come back the next day and the
- 25:55Speaker 7: writers during the night had rewritten the script to incorporate
- 26:03Speaker 7: the improv or like you know, they cherry picked the
- 26:04Speaker 7: fun stuff that we came up with on that previous
- 26:07Speaker 7: day and they would bake that into the next script,
- 26:09Speaker 7: and then we would we would do it all again
- 26:11Speaker 7: and again and again and again. And we would do
- 26:14Speaker 7: this for sometimes four or five, six seven scripts at
- 26:18Speaker 7: a time.
- 26:19Speaker 3: So it's so cool.
- 26:21Speaker 7: I'm never heard that, And I think to be host
- 26:26Speaker 7: it was.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Hard, know what I mean, look at the results, look
- 26:28Speaker 2: at the results.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And also I think shows kind of do to do it,
- 26:34Speaker 1: but it's a way more rush project. So like five
- 26:38Speaker 1: camera or sit or four camera, that's we're gonna write.
- 26:42Speaker 1: We'll do the run through if you you know, on
- 26:45Speaker 1: some shows you're encouraged to improv. If it works the
- 26:49Speaker 1: next day, your improv's in the script all the way
- 26:51Speaker 1: up until you know you shoot. But that's five days.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You guys would take that's really impressive and then take
- 26:58Speaker 1: time off after. Would it ever be the same when
- 27:01Speaker 1: you got there, We're like, when you got to shoot,
- 27:03Speaker 1: it would the blocking still be the same.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Oh no, it was no, No, it was really more
- 27:09Speaker 7: like we used the rehearsal process like we would call
- 27:12Speaker 7: it like the basement tapes, because it really was this
- 27:15Speaker 7: stuff that was just sort of we had like drama turks.
- 27:17Speaker 7: It was really weird like what we had. We had
- 27:19Speaker 7: these these group of assistants that effectively were drama turks
- 27:22Speaker 7: and they were just taking notes on continuity and oh
- 27:24Speaker 7: you know this goes back to that, and they would
- 27:26Speaker 7: just we had volumes of notes that we could refer
- 27:29Speaker 7: back to and it was a very unselfish process and
- 27:31Speaker 7: that someone would come up with a joke for themselves
- 27:34Speaker 7: or for someone else, or or a writer would come
- 27:36Speaker 7: up with a joke and we'd love it on the
- 27:39Speaker 7: day and we were like, wait, where did that come from?
- 27:40Speaker 7: But that isn't that calling back and no one knew
- 27:43Speaker 7: who came up with it, and no one cared.
- 27:45Speaker 3: That wasn't really the point.
- 27:47Speaker 2: We would do it on Scrubs, but it was like
- 27:48Speaker 2: the classic way in the moment. So it's like, okay,
- 27:51Speaker 2: we get to blocking rehearsal where we'd do it as
- 27:54Speaker 2: written and then between the actors, some who we improve
- 27:58Speaker 2: more than others, and then and the other writers. You know,
- 28:02Speaker 2: we would tweak it, add that joke. Oh that's funny,
- 28:04Speaker 2: I'll improve this. Then we would do it. And then
- 28:08Speaker 2: after we did it, and we would like then we
- 28:10Speaker 2: would start just riffing stuff. And you know Bill's big
- 28:14Speaker 2: rule was just get it as written and then you
- 28:15Speaker 2: can fuck around. And then we would do things where
- 28:18Speaker 2: like if you just had a punchline, you would just
- 28:21Speaker 2: do like six things in a row, just so in
- 28:23Speaker 2: the edit room, you know, he'd have all these options
- 28:25Speaker 2: for which one, uh might work. But the idea of
- 28:29Speaker 2: like taking that process and going to another country and
- 28:32Speaker 2: just sort of work shopping it. I mean, that's brilliant.
- 28:36Speaker 2: And that and and and takes commitment from the cast
- 28:39Speaker 2: and from the writers, and money and a lot of dedication.
- 28:45Speaker 2: That's just not something that that I've that I've seen
- 28:47Speaker 2: in another show do and and it and the proof
- 28:50Speaker 2: is in the pudding because the show is just to
- 28:52Speaker 2: me on the next level of funny.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I just know way you could come away from that
- 28:58Speaker 1: not knowing who your character was.
- 29:00Speaker 7: Oh god, no, No, you're absolutely right. You're absolutely right.
- 29:03Speaker 7: You felt a real custodianship over your character. Very early on,
- 29:09Speaker 7: and to the writer's credit and to Armando's credit, and
- 29:12Speaker 7: then even you know the new When Armando left the
- 29:16Speaker 7: show after season four and David Mandel, you know, from
- 29:20Speaker 7: Seinfeld and from Kurb came in and sort of took over.
- 29:25Speaker 7: They honored that process and they sort of honored that relationship.
- 29:28Speaker 7: And I remember specifically when David came aboard, he called
- 29:31Speaker 7: us all individually and was like, you know your character
- 29:35Speaker 7: And he said this to everybody, You guys know your
- 29:37Speaker 7: character better than any of these writers, because you've lived it.
- 29:40Speaker 7: You've done this crazy process. So we want to hear
- 29:43Speaker 7: from you, like you guide us. You tell us what's inside,
- 29:47Speaker 7: like what's out of bounds, tell us when we go
- 29:48Speaker 7: too far, tell us when to pull it back in.
- 29:50Speaker 7: And it was amazing to have that kind of input.
- 29:54Speaker 7: I appreciate it more now in retrospect. At the time,
- 29:58Speaker 7: I found it in readibly difficult. I really did.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I didn't know what why Because you didn't feel comfortable
- 30:07Speaker 2: with the improvisational stuff.
- 30:10Speaker 7: There was a little bit of that, just because we
- 30:11Speaker 7: were called upon so much to do so much improvising,
- 30:15Speaker 7: and I, you know, I haven't a background in improv
- 30:19Speaker 7: but I mean when you're running alongside you know, Matt Walsh, Julia,
- 30:23Speaker 7: Louis dreyif is, Tony Hale. It's like, at least in
- 30:25Speaker 7: the early days, there was a lot I felt there
- 30:28Speaker 7: was a lot of pressure to keep up and to
- 30:31Speaker 7: always be like, you know, how do I be funny?
- 30:34Speaker 7: How do I pop these like these little one liners
- 30:36Speaker 7: off right, and just that process of even when we
- 30:41Speaker 7: were in Baltimore, in the dark days of shooting in Baltimore.
- 30:46Speaker 2: That's when you started, you started shooting it there.
- 30:48Speaker 7: We did the first four seasons in Baltimore.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that. That was just to have
- 30:52Speaker 2: the access to.
- 30:52Speaker 3: The exteriors exactly exactly right.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and then when in later seasons you would just
- 30:57Speaker 2: go there for like a week or something.
- 30:59Speaker 7: Yeah, we go to DC, we come back to Baltimore.
- 31:01Speaker 7: Even we came to New York a couple of times,
- 31:04Speaker 7: uh to get exteriors.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But where were the sets they were in la Uh?
- 31:08Speaker 7: No, we when during the Baltimore days we were, they
- 31:12Speaker 7: had a set built. It was like an old mattress
- 31:15Speaker 7: factory in Columbia, Maryland. That was I didn't know that,
- 31:19Speaker 7: not soundproof, not heated.
- 31:22Speaker 1: No, they never are when you when you're not in lape.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Think we'll just find a warehouse, but then it doesn't
- 31:29Speaker 2: really work.
- 31:30Speaker 7: Like where's the bathroom? Oh, that's what we forgot. But
- 31:34Speaker 7: also because we were there together, you know, we were
- 31:36Speaker 7: sequestered essentially in Baltimore, so there was nothing else to
- 31:39Speaker 7: do on the weekend, so we werehearsed. So Saturdays and
- 31:42Speaker 7: Sundays we'd all go into the studio and just like
- 31:43Speaker 7: funk around and like try to come up.
- 31:45Speaker 2: With really shows. It really shows what special how special
- 31:50Speaker 2: was You're such a good asshole? Do you find no,
- 31:55Speaker 2: you play a prick so well? I wonder when people
- 31:59Speaker 2: who are fans and even masl which we'll get into,
- 32:02Speaker 2: you were such a fucking asshole. Do you do you
- 32:06Speaker 2: feel are people surprised when they meet you in the
- 32:08Speaker 2: Are they expecting you to be a jerk?
- 32:10Speaker 7: I think maybe a little bit. I know I did
- 32:12Speaker 7: a movie with David Wayne, who again comedy genius, so
- 32:18Speaker 7: I really you know, I came up, you know, high school,
- 32:21Speaker 7: in college watching The State was the State and upright
- 32:26Speaker 7: Citizen's Brigade where everything to me, I had never seen
- 32:29Speaker 7: comedy like that before and that really inspired me. To
- 32:32Speaker 7: try to be a part of it. So I worked
- 32:34Speaker 7: with David Wayne on a movie that Matt Walsh produced,
- 32:37Speaker 7: and we were shooting in France, and we showed up
- 32:41Speaker 7: and the first two days it was I wasn't shooting
- 32:44Speaker 7: for a couple of days, but we're just sort of
- 32:46Speaker 7: hanging out. And I got to know David and he
- 32:48Speaker 7: turned to me one day of breakfast and he's like,
- 32:50Speaker 7: it's like a prosthetic. I was like, well, sorry, what
- 32:54Speaker 7: he's like the character your character in Veep. He's like,
- 32:57Speaker 7: the way you put it on in contrast to you,
- 33:02Speaker 7: it's like it's like a prosthetic. And I was like,
- 33:04Speaker 7: thank you very much. I really appreciated that because it's
- 33:07Speaker 7: not me.
- 33:07Speaker 1: That's you know, right, But that's an awesome compliment. It's
- 33:11Speaker 1: like you tad this nose and you were like, you
- 33:15Speaker 1: know what, let.
- 33:16Speaker 7: Me just I loved it, and I loved it.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Let's take a break.
- 33:19Speaker 2: We'll be right back after these fine words. Bill Lawrence
- 33:29Speaker 2: is a big fan of yours. Did you guys ever
- 33:32Speaker 2: work together? Did you read for scrubs?
- 33:34Speaker 7: I did?
- 33:35Speaker 1: I did for JD.
- 33:36Speaker 7: Yeah, it was it was did you what.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Was your process?
- 33:39Speaker 3: Like? What happened oh I got the part.
- 33:41Speaker 7: It was great.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I mean, I know that Bill.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Loves you because I ran into you with Bill and
- 33:47Speaker 2: Bill was like, oh, I love reading such a good actor,
- 33:49Speaker 2: and I knew I thought I heard that you were
- 33:51Speaker 2: up for JD. But I didn't tell me the story
- 33:53Speaker 2: because I we should do that, by the way, we
- 33:55Speaker 2: should have some I don't know if some of some
- 33:57Speaker 2: of the people that got that I read with, I
- 33:59Speaker 2: don't know if they'd want to come on, but well, actually,
- 34:01Speaker 2: you know, my.
- 34:01Speaker 1: God, I would love it.
- 34:02Speaker 7: I love it was dude. Scrubs was a fucking awesome
- 34:07Speaker 7: show I saw. I've seen every episode, every single episode.
- 34:12Speaker 7: You guys were doing something just so we can officially,
- 34:14Speaker 7: you know, get all the mutual you know, adoration and
- 34:17Speaker 7: shit out of the way. You guys were doing stuff
- 34:19Speaker 7: that no one else was doing. It was a different
- 34:21Speaker 7: brand of comedy at the time. And yeah, I as
- 34:27Speaker 7: appreciated as it was. I still think it's going to
- 34:30Speaker 7: be something that like future generation is going to find
- 34:32Speaker 7: later and be like, oh shit, this was like, this
- 34:34Speaker 7: was way different than what people were doing at that time.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Wait, so tell us what your please tell me what
- 34:39Speaker 2: your audition experience was like. And you obviously did great
- 34:43Speaker 2: because Bill loves you. So what was it like?
- 34:46Speaker 7: It was my first audition. It was my very ever
- 34:49Speaker 7: ever ever. I mean I maybe had, like, you know,
- 34:52Speaker 7: like for a commercial or something like that before, but
- 34:54Speaker 7: I remember reading the script and just falling in love
- 34:59Speaker 7: with it, falling in love with it and loving the
- 35:02Speaker 7: character and loving the tone, and I just got it.
- 35:06Speaker 7: It was one of those things where immediately it was
- 35:08Speaker 7: like whether I've become a part of the show or not,
- 35:10Speaker 7: like this is a good show. And I went in
- 35:14Speaker 7: for it and was incredibly nervous, and I remember there
- 35:18Speaker 7: was a casting director, Oh my god, his name escapes
- 35:23Speaker 7: me right now out.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Of New York.
- 35:26Speaker 5: You know.
- 35:26Speaker 1: It was.
- 35:29Speaker 3: No what's his name?
- 35:30Speaker 2: Brian, Brian Brett. Yeah, Brett?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Is that it?
- 35:35Speaker 7: I'll take your word for it.
- 35:36Speaker 1: God, it's been out.
- 35:40Speaker 7: But I remember I loved it, and I thought I
- 35:44Speaker 7: thought I did great.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I really Tbbie Breton, Tbbie.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Is that right way to go with that? Yeah?
- 35:51Speaker 7: And I walked out of there thinking like, oh man,
- 35:54Speaker 7: I fucking nailed it. I can't wait. This is great.
- 35:58Speaker 7: And I I think I had made it back to
- 36:00Speaker 7: Brooklyn when my agent called me and was like, Hey,
- 36:05Speaker 7: I got to talk to you about your audition. It's like,
- 36:07Speaker 7: oh god, what he's like? The casting director called me
- 36:11Speaker 7: and said basically like like like what was he doing
- 36:16Speaker 7: in there?
- 36:17Speaker 1: I was like what?
- 36:19Speaker 7: And he's like, oh, man, he made these choices that
- 36:21Speaker 7: were just so not on the page and just really
- 36:25Speaker 7: weird stuff. And he said, like, my Cadence, I didn't
- 36:28Speaker 7: even know. I didn't even know it in a bad way,
- 36:31Speaker 7: in a bad way, in a way that my agent
- 36:34Speaker 7: was sort of like, do we need to rethink our
- 36:36Speaker 7: working relationship here? And I was like, oh my god.
- 36:38Speaker 7: And I was racking my brain trying to think of
- 36:40Speaker 7: how did I where did I go wrong?
- 36:43Speaker 3: And so.
- 36:45Speaker 7: I kind of chalked it up in the moment, just
- 36:47Speaker 7: like survival mode kicked in and I was like, Okay,
- 36:50Speaker 7: I'm not the guy, obviously, that's fine. I feel good
- 36:55Speaker 7: about the exercise, So moving on. And then I found
- 36:58Speaker 7: out like it was maybe two or three weeks later
- 37:02Speaker 7: that the tape had like Bill had seen the tape,
- 37:08Speaker 7: like the tape and it went on to the execs
- 37:11Speaker 7: in LA and they had considered testing me for it,
- 37:17Speaker 7: but I had already but by then I had already
- 37:19Speaker 7: committed to go test for something else. Oh and it
- 37:23Speaker 7: was like it was this wonderful validation. I gotta be honest,
- 37:26Speaker 7: it was like it was like, oh, thank god, I
- 37:28Speaker 7: knew that I was doing something kind of right, all right, great?
- 37:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know I read not a lot of
- 37:33Speaker 1: people got the show when we came out. Man, you
- 37:35Speaker 1: say you talk about how you know, well you how
- 37:40Speaker 1: much you liked it. It wasn't necessarily well received. We
- 37:44Speaker 1: were always on the bubble, always trying to figure out
- 37:46Speaker 1: a way to get you know, back on the network
- 37:49Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Well, not we but Bill was
- 37:52Speaker 1: with our show man, So you know, that's surprise that
- 37:55Speaker 1: you got it. Well, the fact that you got it
- 37:57Speaker 1: is great, though.
- 37:58Speaker 2: That's my showIn hop until till after. I mean, the
- 38:01Speaker 2: Office wasn't you know. There's all these so many crazy
- 38:04Speaker 2: stories about these shows that are so beloved, including Seinfeld,
- 38:08Speaker 2: that weren't that weren't just genuine hits from the beginning.
- 38:11Speaker 2: It really people really had to work them to.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Keep it on. The Office was one of those too.
- 38:15Speaker 7: It was a great time for comedy in general. Though.
- 38:18Speaker 1: That was really like the Yeah, our group was dope,
- 38:21Speaker 1: you know, our group, your you know us you the
- 38:26Speaker 1: office uh UH arrested development all of it. That time,
- 38:32Speaker 1: the group that that group that that was a really
- 38:35Speaker 1: good time for.
- 38:36Speaker 7: That was a really good time and it was different too.
- 38:38Speaker 7: It's just a different kind of comedy that was coming.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Out, which is really cool.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I'm sorry to ask you the question that's so obvious
- 38:44Speaker 2: that we get asked all the time. But since ours
- 38:46Speaker 2: is ours is looking like it's actually gonna happen a
- 38:49Speaker 2: little bit, is there any chance of any sort of
- 38:53Speaker 2: revival of VIPA? I mean, is there any world where
- 38:56Speaker 2: you all get back together for some It could even
- 38:58Speaker 2: be for like a movie or something.
- 39:00Speaker 7: We've talked about it we have. I think I feel
- 39:04Speaker 7: pretty confident I could speak for everyone and say that
- 39:06Speaker 7: we would all if the opportunity to rose in the
- 39:09Speaker 7: right way, everybody would be in because we love each other.
- 39:12Speaker 7: We're still all very close.
- 39:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 39:15Speaker 7: We do a lot of charity stuff together. In fact,
- 39:17Speaker 7: we were doing we were raising some money for UH
- 39:22Speaker 7: around the election. We're doing an event for Wisconsin.
- 39:25Speaker 2: And are hod that work out for you?
- 39:28Speaker 3: Guys?
- 39:29Speaker 1: How'd that work out for you?
- 39:31Speaker 7: We blew it.
- 39:33Speaker 3: I blame it on you, guys, Honestly, so do.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I so do. I.
- 39:36Speaker 2: By the way, I was at a restaurant last night
- 39:39Speaker 2: and I was at Craig's in La and all these
- 39:42Speaker 2: Secret Service agents walked in.
- 39:44Speaker 3: I was like, what was going on?
- 39:46Speaker 2: Who's here? Because I always get, really, I really get
- 39:48Speaker 2: kind of geeked out about Secret Service.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I think they're so cool.
- 39:51Speaker 2: And there was all things like the movies, and they're
- 39:53Speaker 2: talking in and their thing, and I just I just
- 39:55Speaker 2: think it's so cool. And I asked the waiter, I'm like,
- 39:57Speaker 2: who's here? And he's like, I don't know if it's
- 40:00Speaker 2: sposed to say, but I'm not even sure who it is.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Let me go ask.
- 40:03Speaker 2: And I leaned in and it was the second Gentleman,
- 40:06Speaker 2: Doug m. Hoff, Kamala's husband, and I was very geeked
- 40:09Speaker 2: about it. He definitely definitely seemed he definitely seemed like
- 40:18Speaker 2: he and his pals were having a few.
- 40:21Speaker 3: They were they deserve it, they deserve it.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I think he wasn't. He wasn't. He looked like he
- 40:27Speaker 2: was having a good time, but he also looked like,
- 40:29Speaker 2: you know what, this week, we're gonna.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Drink, We're gonna have.
- 40:37Speaker 2: And then I was trying to be funny with the
- 40:38Speaker 2: Secret Service. On the way out, I'm like, you guys
- 40:40Speaker 2: here for me or him? And which I thought was
- 40:44Speaker 2: a good joke at the time, but none of them
- 40:45Speaker 2: thought it was that fun.
- 40:46Speaker 7: Oh, a secret Service. They're they're known for their their
- 40:49Speaker 7: scintillating sense of humor.
- 40:54Speaker 2: I just think they're cool. I don't know I'm a
- 40:57Speaker 2: Secret Service stand and they didn't really think I was
- 41:00Speaker 2: that funny.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Now, a last deep questioning. During that time, you guys
- 41:05Speaker 1: must have rubbed shoulders with a lot of politicians, especially yeah, yeah, like,
- 41:11Speaker 1: especially when you guys became a hit, especially when a
- 41:13Speaker 1: lot of people were watching. You said you were in
- 41:15Speaker 1: Baltimore for four years, that's like right next door to DC.
- 41:18Speaker 1: How much? How much?
- 41:20Speaker 7: Quite a bit?
- 41:21Speaker 1: How much? And are you ever thinking about politics now?
- 41:26Speaker 7: Because you know I'd be lying if I said that
- 41:29Speaker 7: it doesn't cross my mind, because you know, look, I
- 41:33Speaker 7: don't pretend to be an expert on politics based on
- 41:36Speaker 7: a show that it worked on. But I did get
- 41:39Speaker 7: you know, I really got a front row seat, or
- 41:43Speaker 7: a backstage seat rather, and that was because you know,
- 41:45Speaker 7: HBO had so much influence in that sphere, especially at
- 41:50Speaker 7: that time via Richard Plepler, who ran Hbo at the time.
- 41:57Speaker 7: He was a big DC mover and shaker. And Frank
- 41:59Speaker 7: rich who was one of our executive provisors. You know,
- 42:01Speaker 7: I wrote for the Washington Post and was huge influence
- 42:06Speaker 7: in DC. They got us so much access in the
- 42:10Speaker 7: early days that we were I remember the Senator Joe Lieberman,
- 42:15Speaker 7: who was a friend I think of Richard Plepler. He
- 42:18Speaker 7: just opened up his office to us and we just
- 42:20Speaker 7: came and we were just like the entire cast. We
- 42:22Speaker 7: were just all over his office grilling everybody. Tony and
- 42:27Speaker 7: Tim and Matt and I would meet staffers all over
- 42:30Speaker 7: Capitol Hill and take them out.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Did you get to go to the White House?
- 42:34Speaker 7: We got to go to the Eisenhower next door. I
- 42:37Speaker 7: actually no, I'm sorry we did. No. We went to
- 42:38Speaker 7: the White House, that's right.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:39Speaker 7: They snuck us in and gave us like a quick,
- 42:42Speaker 7: sort of like mad dash tour through the whole thing.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Cool.
- 42:47Speaker 7: It was weird. I gotta be honest, is like people
- 42:51Speaker 7: divulged things to us that I'm positive they should not
- 42:55Speaker 7: have told.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I think they're just so geeked that you're telling their
- 42:59Speaker 2: story that they want you to know the real I want.
- 43:02Speaker 1: To meet the motherfucker that just keeps slipping like, Yo,
- 43:04Speaker 1: aliens exist, Bro, I'm telling you right now, I want
- 43:08Speaker 1: to I want to meet the guy that's like, Yo,
- 43:11Speaker 1: if you lobby hard enough, marijuana could not only be
- 43:14Speaker 1: legal state, it could be federal.
- 43:17Speaker 7: Like.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I want to meet that guy. I want to meet
- 43:19Speaker 1: the guy that's like, Yo, look, if you really want
- 43:22Speaker 1: to get better health care, this is what we need
- 43:25Speaker 1: to do, and it'd be viable. And me be like,
- 43:27Speaker 1: you know, I want to meet these people. I want
- 43:30Speaker 1: to meet the guy that's like, infrastructure, I get it, California,
- 43:34Speaker 1: we need it. I want to meet these people. Hey, man, I.
- 43:37Speaker 7: Hope they still exist. I gotta be honest. It feels like,
- 43:40Speaker 7: you know, I make no pretense about it. You know,
- 43:43Speaker 7: I come down on the left side of things, for sure,
- 43:47Speaker 7: but I think both sides have. Everything is so fractured
- 43:52Speaker 7: and so muddy and so overly complicated. It's a I
- 43:57Speaker 7: think we've got a lot of work to do to
- 44:00Speaker 7: clear some shit out so that people like you mentioned Donald,
- 44:04Speaker 7: because they're they're out there there. They are absolutely out
- 44:07Speaker 7: there and they're willing to do the work. But I
- 44:09Speaker 7: think a lot of them there's this sort of general
- 44:11Speaker 7: sense of apathy of sort of like, oh, it's such
- 44:13Speaker 7: a you know, assists of pheeing task that no one
- 44:16Speaker 7: wants to take it on.
- 44:18Speaker 3: And I think everyone's a bit demoralized. U well, not everyone.
- 44:22Speaker 2: I think a lot of people are demoralized. Now everyone's
- 44:24Speaker 2: just licking their wounds a bit and and then they'll
- 44:26Speaker 2: regroup soon.
- 44:27Speaker 7: And I honestly, I hope it comes sooner than later,
- 44:30Speaker 7: because I really do.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Look.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Look, I fell into my little creator of depression and
- 44:33Speaker 7: it's fine. But you know, and maybe I see this
- 44:36Speaker 7: because I have kids. You know, it's like you can
- 44:38Speaker 7: sit and you can wallow, and that ends up being,
- 44:42Speaker 7: in my personal opinion, kind of childish, because like what
- 44:45Speaker 7: you can do is sort of like, all right, take
- 44:46Speaker 7: your time, lick the wounds and realize we got to
- 44:49Speaker 7: get to work. There's a lot of work.
- 44:51Speaker 3: To have been a couple of weeks. We can wallow
- 44:53Speaker 3: for a couple of moments.
- 44:54Speaker 7: Okay, I'll give you a little let's.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Talk about Missus mays Ol Donald. I don't I mean,
- 44:58Speaker 2: I'm just going to be clear. I can't imagine you've
- 45:00Speaker 2: ever seen an episode of Missus Mazell, because.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I've watched the first season of Really.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I never would have guessed that you would like
- 45:08Speaker 2: that show.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 45:11Speaker 2: Well, just because you know, I know what you like.
- 45:14Speaker 2: And there's never a moment where anyone fires a laser
- 45:18Speaker 2: at someone or flies.
- 45:20Speaker 1: It's a lot of good stand up comedy. I was
- 45:22Speaker 1: really impressed with the fact that this young lady could
- 45:24Speaker 1: do stand up comedy like that. Let's just get very
- 45:28Speaker 1: impressed with that.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I really love the show. I was late to
- 45:32Speaker 2: it because I just when I first started to be honest,
- 45:35Speaker 2: it reminded me so much of just so many people
- 45:39Speaker 2: I grew up with, and you know, I grew up
- 45:42Speaker 2: East Coast Jewish family, and there was a lot of
- 45:47Speaker 2: it was just like, Okay, I don't know, this is funny,
- 45:49Speaker 2: but it's just too close to home. And then I
- 45:52Speaker 2: went back and just really really loved it. The performance
- 45:56Speaker 2: is the way it shot. There was I love shows,
- 45:58Speaker 2: and Scrubs did this too. I have to say, you
- 46:00Speaker 2: know where it wasn't just like, oh, let's shoot it
- 46:04Speaker 2: like the cinematography is a character. I mean, you guys
- 46:06Speaker 2: did such cool shots and such amazing production design, and
- 46:11Speaker 2: every single actor was better than the last, and so
- 46:15Speaker 2: you got to play sort of a for those of
- 46:17Speaker 2: you who don't know this show, a sort of you know,
- 46:21Speaker 2: she's an aspiring comedian and inspired by Joan Rivers, right, I.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Think loose they actual story, Yeah, yeah, that's part of it.
- 46:30Speaker 7: That's part of it.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a bit of A and so and Joan
- 46:33Speaker 2: Rivers always wanted to guest and then hopefully one day
- 46:37Speaker 2: take over the Tonight Show. And you kind of played
- 46:40Speaker 2: the Johnny Carson character. Tell us about getting that, Like,
- 46:44Speaker 2: how did you did you read for that part? How
- 46:46Speaker 2: did that come about?
- 46:48Speaker 7: The showrunners they called me or we set up a
- 46:54Speaker 7: call and Amy Sherman Palladino and Dan Palladino, who again,
- 47:00Speaker 7: and I mean, I'm very lucky I've gotten to work
- 47:03Speaker 7: with some just incredibly genius writers.
- 47:06Speaker 1: They are the.
- 47:07Speaker 7: Best of the best, and they're just my kind of weird.
- 47:09Speaker 7: I love them. They called me and we set up
- 47:13Speaker 7: this zoom and they basically gave me their pitch on
- 47:16Speaker 7: the character and sort of describing just as you said
- 47:19Speaker 7: that he's sort of, you know, like very heavily influenced
- 47:22Speaker 7: by Johnny Carson and like the early talk show hosts
- 47:26Speaker 7: of the nineteen sixties, And I sort of sat there.
- 47:31Speaker 7: I was like, yeah, all right, cool, cool, all right, yeah,
- 47:35Speaker 7: let me think about it. And I got off the
- 47:37Speaker 7: zoom and I went and told my wife. It's like,
- 47:40Speaker 7: oh yeah, She's like, how'd it go. I'm like, yeah,
- 47:41Speaker 7: it went well.
- 47:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:42Speaker 7: I told him I was kind to think about it
- 47:44Speaker 7: because honestly, like I was not. I was familiar with
- 47:46Speaker 7: the show, but I kind of, like you Donald, I
- 47:48Speaker 7: think i'd seen a few episodes of season one, but
- 47:50Speaker 7: I just didn't. I didn't really know the show. And
- 47:53Speaker 7: my wife said, she's like, you told them you're thinking
- 47:56Speaker 7: about it.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Yeah, She's like, you're.
- 48:00Speaker 7: Fucking doing it. I was like okay, because she was
- 48:03Speaker 7: a huge fan of the show, so she she sort
- 48:06Speaker 7: of crash coursed me through the first three seasons, and
- 48:08Speaker 7: I was blown away. I was like, oh my god,
- 48:10Speaker 7: this writing is phenomenal.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Writing was amazing. It was I loved about it.
- 48:15Speaker 3: It was beautiful.
- 48:16Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, not only would the
- 48:18Speaker 2: writing be amazing, but then they do like this most
- 48:20Speaker 2: epic wonner of a shot, and you'd be like, oh
- 48:22Speaker 2: my god, they must have spent three days planning that
- 48:25Speaker 2: and shooting that, and they just I love the care
- 48:27Speaker 2: they took in shooting it, because you could have just
- 48:30Speaker 2: said to hear the pretty costumes, hear the pretty sets,
- 48:33Speaker 2: and and here's great writing. But it was so beyond that.
- 48:37Speaker 2: There was There was such There was a dance and
- 48:39Speaker 2: a choreography to the way the actors moved throughout the
- 48:43Speaker 2: sets and the way the camera interacted with them. And
- 48:46Speaker 2: there were times when I literally I can't think of
- 48:48Speaker 2: so many many shows where I would like replay a
- 48:50Speaker 2: wonner and be like, how the hell did they do that?
- 48:53Speaker 7: And that's Amy. Honestly, that comes from Amy Sherman Paladino.
- 48:56Speaker 7: She you know, she and Daniel they did uh, you
- 49:02Speaker 7: know Gilmore Girls. I think everyone sort of knew them
- 49:05Speaker 7: for Gilmore Girls before that. But before that, Amy was
- 49:08Speaker 7: a choreographer for like decades, so dance and movement and
- 49:15Speaker 7: music are so huge for her. That's why the Honestly,
- 49:20Speaker 7: I had a little trouble the first couple weeks on
- 49:24Speaker 7: set because you know, coming from v but I basically,
- 49:27Speaker 7: you know, we were improvising so much. You know, we
- 49:32Speaker 7: never hit a mark, we never did it the same
- 49:34Speaker 7: way twice. And then showing up to set for for Mazel,
- 49:37Speaker 7: where it's like, oh no, you don't change a word.
- 49:39Speaker 7: You don't change And yeah, it was very sort of
- 49:43Speaker 7: you know Aaron sorkinish in that way, in that like
- 49:47Speaker 7: it's it's written this way because it's all been meticulously crafted,
- 49:51Speaker 7: and then you realize once you start to say it,
- 49:53Speaker 7: it's like, oh, it can't be said any other way.
- 49:55Speaker 7: It's perfect the way it is. But she would have
- 49:58Speaker 7: built in, especially when she directed, every cinematic move of
- 50:03Speaker 7: the camera was tied in perfectly to the timing of
- 50:07Speaker 7: certain words, like she saw the whole show in an
- 50:13Speaker 7: extra dimension that like people just don't really you know,
- 50:17Speaker 7: most of most people don't have that ability. It's really incredible.
- 50:20Speaker 2: It's cool hearing that. It's cool hearing that story because
- 50:22Speaker 2: for me, it really showed there was so many there
- 50:25Speaker 2: was so much elegance to it. The scenes just felt
- 50:28Speaker 2: like like dances.
- 50:29Speaker 7: I loved it.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I like that. I liked that she was a choreographer before. Yeah,
- 50:33Speaker 1: because then it really makes you feel so they she
- 50:36Speaker 1: did direct the scene, she did, you know what I mean,
- 50:38Speaker 1: she did. She was a part of it. You know,
- 50:41Speaker 1: usually you know, you know how it is, the background
- 50:44Speaker 1: is usually ran by the second ad or third a
- 50:48Speaker 1: d okay, now you and you know what I mean.
- 50:51Speaker 1: And to think that that much care went into it,
- 50:54Speaker 1: and also with cinematography too, to capture the busyness. That's
- 50:58Speaker 1: what I'm That was the one thing I would say
- 50:59Speaker 1: about that show that I really like. Definitely felt busy.
- 51:03Speaker 1: When you were in a nightclub, it felt like you
- 51:05Speaker 1: were in a nightclub. When you were at the parties,
- 51:07Speaker 1: like when she was doing all of the stand up
- 51:08Speaker 1: at the parties with her buddy and they're going back
- 51:10Speaker 1: and forth, you felt like you were at a party.
- 51:12Speaker 1: The Crosses felt like that. The music that was playing
- 51:15Speaker 1: in the background, it's just really well done. And when
- 51:19Speaker 1: it won all of those awards, I was like, fuck,
- 51:21Speaker 1: of course and shit won all of the awards. But
- 51:24Speaker 1: then we know how it was. But you know how
- 51:26Speaker 1: it goes. After a while, You're like, monk, Tony, I
- 51:29Speaker 1: can't watch you anymore. Bro. You win everything.
- 51:31Speaker 7: You're gonna win it anyway, Tony.
- 51:33Speaker 2: The second Tony, the second they hit record on Tony,
- 51:36Speaker 2: he wins an award.
- 51:37Speaker 7: He's rising, He's amazing, amazing guy.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, man, let's take a break.
- 51:43Speaker 2: We'll be right back after these fine words. Did you
- 51:53Speaker 2: meet any talk show hosts or who did you get
- 51:56Speaker 2: to meet to like research.
- 51:58Speaker 7: I've gotten to be friendly with Steven Bear over the
- 52:01Speaker 7: years because he's he was a massive Yeah, he was
- 52:05Speaker 7: a huge Veep fan. He he would come to our
- 52:08Speaker 7: like Veep like rap parties. He would just show up
- 52:11Speaker 7: and like, who's going to say no to Steven? You know,
- 52:15Speaker 7: It's like he was just always around. He just wanted
- 52:17Speaker 7: to be around. He was great and uh and he
- 52:20Speaker 7: he and Matt Walsh, you know, they they went way
- 52:22Speaker 7: back through you know early you know, New York Comedy days,
- 52:25Speaker 7: UCB and then Daily Show and all that. So he
- 52:29Speaker 7: was a real welcome guest. So I actually I reached
- 52:31Speaker 7: out to him, uh when I accepted the role and said, hey,
- 52:36Speaker 7: I would just I would love to pick your brain.
- 52:38Speaker 7: And we had a zoom and he basically said like
- 52:41Speaker 7: like hey man, I I'm happy to talk, but I
- 52:44Speaker 7: don't I don't really know what what to tell you,
- 52:48Speaker 7: Like like, what what do you want from me? Basically
- 52:51Speaker 7: and said like, look, I'm not after how do I
- 52:57Speaker 7: be a talk show host behind the desk. It's like
- 52:59Speaker 7: I'll figure that out. What I'm more interested in is
- 53:02Speaker 7: how you change from you know, all the masks you
- 53:06Speaker 7: wear during your job, right, like you have your home life.
- 53:10Speaker 7: Then you have the showrunner because essentially like the talk
- 53:15Speaker 7: show host is the showrunner. You have your your showrunner persona.
- 53:18Speaker 7: Then you have your writer persona. You've got your businessman
- 53:21Speaker 7: persona because at that time they were all so you know,
- 53:24Speaker 7: and they still are such a part of the fabric
- 53:26Speaker 7: of the network. They're they're they're they're worried about advertising,
- 53:30Speaker 7: they're worried about time, all this stuff. Then you have
- 53:33Speaker 7: your your persona that you have behind the desk, and
- 53:36Speaker 7: then you have you know, you're the rest of your
- 53:38Speaker 7: personal life and sort of like and you have to
- 53:40Speaker 7: shift through all of those masks every single day.
- 53:43Speaker 1: What's that like?
- 53:44Speaker 7: And I saw Steven his eyes kind of lit up,
- 53:46Speaker 7: and I realized no one had ever asked him that
- 53:49Speaker 7: question before. And he said, oh, well, here we go.
- 53:52Speaker 7: And we we talked for like four hours, and at
- 53:54Speaker 7: the end of which he's like, he's like, you know
- 53:55Speaker 7: who you really need to talk to. You need to
- 53:58Speaker 7: talk to Dick Cabot. I was like, oh, yeah, sure,
- 54:00Speaker 7: I'll just I'll call up Dick Cavit. He's like, no,
- 54:02Speaker 7: hold on a second, he calls Dick Cavot, gets Dick
- 54:06Speaker 7: Caviot to join the zoom. So I'm on a three
- 54:09Speaker 7: way zoom with Stephen Colbert and Dick Cavit and I
- 54:13Speaker 7: was like, this was like like my parents are finally
- 54:16Speaker 7: proud of me, Like I really made it?
- 54:20Speaker 3: And what I did? What did Kavit say?
- 54:22Speaker 2: Did he did?
- 54:22Speaker 3: He?
- 54:23Speaker 1: Did?
- 54:23Speaker 7: He?
- 54:25Speaker 5: Oh?
- 54:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean he did. You know, dick'son, He's a legend,
- 54:30Speaker 7: and he's he's getting he's getting on in ears. So
- 54:32Speaker 7: we spent a lot of time just sort of hearing stories,
- 54:34Speaker 7: which was great because you know, I would sort of
- 54:37Speaker 7: keep an ear out for like, oh, that's a fun
- 54:39Speaker 7: little thing, and you know, knowing that I don't really
- 54:41Speaker 7: have the juice at Mazel the way I might have
- 54:45Speaker 7: been veep to sort of put any of this stuff
- 54:47Speaker 7: in there, but I sort of I was just taking
- 54:49Speaker 7: copious notes and then I would get there and be like,
- 54:51Speaker 7: you know what Dick told me these funny little stories.
- 54:53Speaker 7: I wonder if there's a way to sort of wedget
- 54:54Speaker 7: in there. And we found a couple here and there.
- 54:57Speaker 7: But really what he impressed upon me was just the
- 55:02Speaker 7: size of the role of the Late Night talk show
- 55:06Speaker 7: host from that era. It was unlike anything else in television.
- 55:10Speaker 7: And I mean you can really you can count on
- 55:12Speaker 7: two hands the number of late night talk show hosts
- 55:16Speaker 7: that really have mattered, that have really made a difference.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Well, he's definitely one of them. He's way up there
- 55:22Speaker 1: for sure. Like it's him, Johnny Carson. Yeah, real, those
- 55:28Speaker 1: are from my era seventy four, that's the two. Yeah.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Well, but then there was who was before h Johnny
- 55:38Speaker 2: wasn't there was well, obviously there was, uh, you know
- 55:42Speaker 2: the guy the Beatles went on.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but I wasn't around for that.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I wasn't I'm saying throughout history like the big MERV.
- 55:52Speaker 7: Griffin, right, and they were, and they were all doing
- 55:55Speaker 7: something similar, but like but really, I mean, Johnny was
- 55:58Speaker 7: the guy. Johnny was the guy. You know, Dick is
- 56:03Speaker 7: certainly in that conversation because he.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Was about to say he had some I mean, his
- 56:07Speaker 1: guests and the crowd up was interacting with guests back
- 56:09Speaker 1: then were really cool.
- 56:10Speaker 7: And he was the thinking man, really good you know host,
- 56:13Speaker 7: and he.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Was really he was kind of of course, and of
- 56:15Speaker 2: course Letterman.
- 56:15Speaker 7: We can't early Letterman.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I mean that that's that's that was revolutionary though man
- 56:21Speaker 1: like he turned it. He I mean, there was those guys.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Then Letterman came and I remember I remember late night,
- 56:29Speaker 1: late late night. I remember that. I remember staying up
- 56:33Speaker 1: late to watch him, you know what I mean. And
- 56:35Speaker 1: then who came on after him back in the day, Conan.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Remember that.
- 56:39Speaker 7: It's amazing because used to be if he looked at
- 56:41Speaker 7: like Jack Parr, I think is also another legend who
- 56:44Speaker 7: deserves to be mentioned. He was doing stuff with comedy
- 56:47Speaker 7: that no one was doing until early. Letterman came back
- 56:51Speaker 7: and was sort of like reinventing, you know, people get
- 56:54Speaker 7: you know, Letterman deserves all that credit, but he was
- 56:58Speaker 7: almost sort of picking up where Jack Parr left off.
- 57:02Speaker 7: And then I think Conan was sort of in that
- 57:03Speaker 7: same conversation, and you sort of like, to me, that
- 57:06Speaker 7: lineage is so clear, like Jack Parr to David Letterman
- 57:09Speaker 7: to Conan O'Brien, and that's why they all deserve to
- 57:12Speaker 7: be in that same conversation. But the pressure that was
- 57:16Speaker 7: put on these guys to deliver like they were the network.
- 57:19Speaker 7: It was them in the news, you know, they were
- 57:22Speaker 7: the real faces of the network. All the other shows
- 57:24Speaker 7: were entertaining and people love the characters and love the actors,
- 57:28Speaker 7: but when you turned on NBC, you were watching Johnny Carson.
- 57:32Speaker 7: This was Johnny Carson's network.
- 57:34Speaker 1: It was his it was his network. Yeah, so I
- 57:37Speaker 1: just watched it before we move, and I'm sorry, I
- 57:38Speaker 1: just watched this movie Saturday Night and they dip and
- 57:41Speaker 1: they talk about that a little bit in the movie.
- 57:44Speaker 1: How the reason why Saturday Night Live was on was
- 57:48Speaker 1: because Johnny Carson and the network were in a feud
- 57:52Speaker 1: about money and they needed a show for Saturday Night
- 57:59Speaker 1: to replace him him and he wasn't playing he wasn't
- 58:03Speaker 1: playing ball. They weren't playing ball, and they put a
- 58:06Speaker 1: show on with a bunch of nobodies that had literally
- 58:11Speaker 1: no there was no there was no legitimate story. So
- 58:14Speaker 1: there was no a to b there was no you know,
- 58:18Speaker 1: there was no star, there was no nothing, And they
- 58:21Speaker 1: put this show on to combat, you know, for it
- 58:25Speaker 1: to lose, really knowing that they'd signed Johnny again and
- 58:28Speaker 1: it was a hit. Johnny Clarson was running him and
- 58:32Speaker 1: Milton Burrell were running that show absolutely.
- 58:35Speaker 7: John At one point people forget, you know, the Tonight Show.
- 58:39Speaker 7: At one point, Johnny was so powerful. The Tonight Show
- 58:42Speaker 7: was only on three four days a week, because he
- 58:47Speaker 7: was like, fuck it, I want to go play tennis.
- 58:50Speaker 7: I mean, can you imagine, like there's no late night
- 58:52Speaker 7: talk show that could ever get away with that. But
- 58:54Speaker 7: he was like, you know, they called it the Tonight Show.
- 58:56Speaker 7: Really was sort of like you know, the win I
- 58:59Speaker 7: feel like a show.
- 59:04Speaker 2: That little clip here, Dan, all right, now we have
- 59:09Speaker 2: to talk about your latest gig, Law and Order. And
- 59:12Speaker 2: I saw something funny you said because it was the
- 59:14Speaker 2: truth for me too. When I was coming up in
- 59:16Speaker 2: New York. Uh you know, I graduated Northwestern in ninety seven,
- 59:22Speaker 2: and and like the main show in New York was
- 59:25Speaker 2: The og Lawn Order. And even before that, when I
- 59:28Speaker 2: was auditioning before college, there were like young parts and
- 59:31Speaker 2: everyone I knew was getting their little stint on Law
- 59:34Speaker 2: and Order. Everyone was getting there little even if it
- 59:36Speaker 2: was like one scene like I told you, I didn't
- 59:38Speaker 2: do it man, like everyone had their those are my drugs?
- 59:44Speaker 2: Those not my drugs. I got it from Cheryl.
- 59:47Speaker 1: I want to dun dum, dun dum.
- 59:52Speaker 3: You know who you should be talking to.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Cheryl. She works down at the candy shop. Even if
- 59:58Speaker 2: it was that, even though it was just that and
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I couldn't get any of these ships, and I'm figuring
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: they neither read for them all. And I know Donald
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: you did too, And I was like, what is.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: The best I guy was New York Undercover. Bro, My
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: ship was hot, dude, come on.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: It became a joke like, oh, you're a New York actor.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Have you had your line on Law and Order yet?
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: And I was like, fucking no. And then I saw
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: that I saw the notes that you did too, and
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: now here the fucking lead so so fun. That's a
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: good fucking karma coming around.
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: I tried. Man, I know it was the same it was,
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: you know when I was when I was first kicking
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: it around here auditioning again, late nineties, ninety eight, ninety nine.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Uh, that's all.
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: I want to turn nothing.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I wanted to be on that ship so badly. My
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: best friend, my best friend, who is not an actor.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: When we were kids, he wasn't even an actor, he
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: didn't do shit. And this motherfucker wound up one law Nor.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I was like, how the fuck did he get on there?
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Remember you'd go audition down to Chelsea.
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: P Yeah, yeah, is that where you still shoot? SVU
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: is over there? But we're in uh, we're in Brooklyn.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: It Steiner, not at Steiner.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: God, I wish that's the nice one you got about.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Look, dude, straight up, s vu man, how long has
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Marishka and Iced Tea had job?
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: It's amazing?
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: And you want to talk about never happened to retire? Mean,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: oh my god, never happened.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Long order back when we were watching it, So I
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: remember the Jerry or Back Jimmy Smith's yes, Chris Noath days.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: I believe.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Because there's so many incarnations. But I think when I
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: was watching it trying to get my little Doom Doom moment,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: it was Chris North and Jerry or Back. But so
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: that's a pretty great lineage. What's it like? Is it
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: fun to shoot?
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Do you have?
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Is Dick Wolf still involved? Does he come by or.
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: He out Dick? I I assume Dick is always just
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: sort of circling the earth in his hyperbaric chamber, you know,
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: seven seven?
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Is he going to be okay for money?
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Read?
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Do you think that he'll be able to get by?
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: He'll be okay, He'll be okay.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Is it crazy that he has a monopoly on all television? Right?
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: It's amazing, It's like, honestly, getting talk about how the
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: sausage is made. It's sort of like getting a peek
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: behind the curtain to how Dick Wolf Productions works. Is
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: really there's nothing quite like it. I really had no
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: idea a. I love it. I have such a blast
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: doing this gig.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you would love to do it?
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: We want to do Yeah.
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: Oh my god, that'd be hilarious.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I love that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to want us together,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: because then it'll be like all the Scrubs guys. But
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: will you tell your your your showrunner?
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: For sure?
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Donald and I never got our one line doing doing moment,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: and we would like to make our dreams come true.
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: Honestly, I'm not kidding. I'm going to say this first
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: thing tomorrow.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: You know it'll be funny if I was like if
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I just have one line, and like, it wasn't me.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: It was my friend Timmy. He works down at the cemetery.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: He's a grave digger.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: I didn't do it. It was fucking James. James fucking
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: called me up the other day and he was like,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: you know what I did? I fucking did it.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: You tell him I'm not coming down to Chelsea Piers
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: the audition, but I will take the offer.
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: Oh well, I know it looks.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Like it must be fun to shoot, right.
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: It's great, man, it's great.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: It's who's your partner? Who? Who do you do with?
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: Mccod Brooks plays my partner and he's the best.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: He's just you work on with macd I love mccott.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: He's so fun that we grats to both of you,
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: you know, he and I we work so well together.
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: I think because we right, we get what the job is,
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: you know, and we respect it. We we both kind
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: of like you guys, we came up on this job,
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: so we sort of feel again that sort of custodianship
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: over it. Yeah, but we also.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Wanted to be a part of that show.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: We just love it.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: It's fucking unfailing and infallible, infallible.
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: We're two grown men in our late forties running around
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: New York with a gun and a badge and a snarky,
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: bad attitude, and you know, we get to do all
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: this fun or baki and ship. It's like it's the best.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really cool. I would love to I would
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: love to do that. I would love to just be.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: So you guys are the lost side. Who's the order side.
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: Who's the the order side? Is my buddy, Hugh Dancy
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: and Odelia Hallavi and now Tony Goldwin.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Oh wow, people speaking of people who never had a
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: day off in the last forty years.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Jesus, he's not directing, he's acting.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: I know, Tony.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I love Tony so much, but I'm like, dude, you know,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: it's okay to take a day off Tony. It's okay
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: to not work today. When he's not working, he's doing
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: political action. He's an amazing.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: He's the real deal.
- 1:04:54Speaker 7: Tony gold We love Tony.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I love him very much. He's the nicest guy. It
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: has abs. A lot of women have a crush on
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: and you'll be happy to know that he has abs. Still, Yes,
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: because he rows, he does the rower.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Oh he's a rower.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's one of those guys with the rower and
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: are you a rower? And has got you into rowing?
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Not yet? No, no, I was gonna say. That's always cool, man.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: It's like you get to go into work, you get
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: to act, and then at the end of the day
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: you get to run around with guns too, so you
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: get to do all of the things that you wanted
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: to do, and like, I'm like, I was just thinking
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: about that. I was like, yeah, I was like, you know,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: what would be a lot of fun actually doing a
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: procedural that would actually be a lot of fun if
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: it's a if I'm a cop, because I'll come in,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I'll do the work. I got, you know, we'll do
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the work. Let's do the work. Now, Let's go fucking
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: run around with cars. Let's do stunt ships. Great, let's
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: drive around and shoot guns and stuff.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Very funny. If you and I did a Law and
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Order spoof.
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: That's what we want to do too, mccott and I absolutely,
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: it's it's so ripe ripe for it.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: I think, you know, John, I feel like we'd have
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: more fun to have eat our cake, have our cake,
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: you eat it too, where we could still do with
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: the ship. But then but it was a spoof. It
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: was like a naked gun spoof.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Of we need to get Dick Wolf on board for
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Dick Wolf.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Are you ready to spoof your work?
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: I heard Dick Wolf is a huge fan.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Listens to the fakes real friends.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I mean, I know you have your I think this is.
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: Perfect for like a sort of like Law and Order
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: multiverse too. You know, it's sort of like like Zach
- 1:06:22Speaker 7: if you're playing my character, and Donald if you're playing
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: with Cod's character. It's like, somehow we just have to
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: go down the wrong alley in New York and we
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: come out the other side into another dimension and it's
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: you guys.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: But it's it's when we do ours every time you
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: when we do our spoof, every time you hear the
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: dong dong, it's gonna reveal that I'm playing it on
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: a synthesize.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: You got a little many synthesizes that you walk around.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Yeah, remember that little Cassio one that where you like, yeah,
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: I have that and you're like and you're like, why
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: do you always do that? I'm like, well, it's just
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: how I like to end scenes.
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: Punctuation.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: What what is? What is the scene? We're fucking standing
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: here in front of an investigation?
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Man?
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Well, thank you for coming on. You're you're so talented
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: and I'm so grateful for your time. And everybody check
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: out Law and Order.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: When do you guys? Come on? When do you wear?
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: When is it on?
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: We're Thursdays, eight pm and we'll be on, hopefully for
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: the next thousand years.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you will be. Wait, so you shoot in New York,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: put your families in LA. It's tough because your kids
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: are in school. Do you can you come back for
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: weekends and stuff?
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: How do you do it?
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: Yeah, they're they're actually they're very They're wonderful about it.
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: It's all been very humane, Like they carve out nice
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: big you know, four or five six day weekends for
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: me when they can.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: I get to talk back a lot.
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: My family comes here. You know, I'm from upstate. I've
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: lived in New York since I was a teenager, so
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: this is a bit of a homecoming. And you know,
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: get into this show. I've gotten to know New York
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: City on a level that I never thought was possible
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: because of the places that we get to shoot on
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: this show. It's like we are everywhere, and so it
- 1:08:01Speaker 7: really has gotten me to fall in love with New
- 1:08:03Speaker 7: York again. But the travel is a bit of a grind.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: But I'm about to say getting through that city, No.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: I think he's talking about the LA New York commute right.
- 1:08:12Speaker 7: All of it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about it. You have a film in
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: New York? Have you filmed in New York in the
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: last five years?
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Yeah, six years films in New York, right, you know.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: So you know, although for a good person, we couldn't shoot.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: We had to shoot Jersey City for New York because
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: of the tax rebate, we weren't allowed to shoot in
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: New York.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the hardest place to get around. Manhattan stuff.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: It's so hard to get around.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's tricky. And then and then when when people
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: see the film shoot, they're so stoked. So then it
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: becomes really kind of tricky to shoot because people gather
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: and everyone. All the locals are so over film crews,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: so they're like, get the fuck off my street.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: An's ale? Why do they all sound like Edith Bunker?
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: If I see Sarah Jessica Parker's strutting up I Street
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: one more time, I'm gonna get a blow dot gun.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: All right, Read, you're the best man. Thank you for
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: your Scott everybody.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: Now I want to be on Law and Order.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: I'm jealous.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Well, you know what I was thinking about that earlier today?
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: When I say that, my wife is like, were you
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: thinking about it or were you thinking about it earlier?
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Just now? I was thinking about it earlier today, And
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that would be kind of an ideal job right now, Like,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: if Scrubs doesn't do this reboot, it would be nice
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: to be on something like Law and Order or Law
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: and Order SVU or something, you know, something of that
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: nature where you get to run around and play fire
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: man or you get to run around and play you know, FBI.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: That's fun for me.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: I just feel like in my gut, I I would
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: get exhausted if there wasn't humor, Like I just feel like,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: And don't get me wrong, I would totally do a
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: drama of all of all types, except for if I'm
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: going to do twenty two episodes of a show.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I want to be funny too, no doubt.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: I just don't know if I'm gonna make it through
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: the day if we're not laughing.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Like, to me, what I think there's room for that
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: in those things.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: There's no comedy in lor Honor. They just have like
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: one snarky remark like I guess you didn't finish his
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: bagel dune dune. So but yeah, what a great guy.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: And he's so talented and he keeps working and we
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: always admire these people that just keep on working and
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: working and working.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: He's a handsome dude. Man's that's what that's.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Also what you're saying, it's just because he's handsome.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: No, he's a very talented actor man, and he's very very,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: very very funny, but he also has something called handsome
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: on his side, and in this town, from what I understand,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: handsome is a big deal.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Handsome helps He plays such a good dick. Though, oh
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: my god, was he such a like the worst jerk
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: on on Veep.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Worse than Bradley Cooper and wedding crashers.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: I don't really remember. Probably not.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Bradley Cooper is the worst dick that I've ever seen
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: in my life in wedding crashes. Dude. But you know what, Reid,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: you're a pretty good dick.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: To Reid, You're a great dick.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: You're such a good dick.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: He's such a nice dick. By the way, I got
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: I was feeling sort of lonesome and depressed the other day,
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: I have to admit, and but no, I was, I
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: was feeling down the dumps I was having. I was,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: I was really feeling my feelings. And I remember remember
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: Joel saying that when she wants to find something to do,
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: she plays the SIMS four. So I downloaded SIMS four.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I'll start playing SIMS four. It's been so many years.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: And I said, I go, I have a ranch and
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: I'm setting it up, and I'm texting Joel questions. I'm like,
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: how do I get a horse? I'm on this ranch alone,
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: I like need a horse. And then I get the horse.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: Joel helps me out, and I'm like, I want to
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: get some baby goats. Joel wear the baby goats and
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: she's talking me through this, and then I'm just sitting
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: there on this fucking giant empty range. And I got
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: baby goats and I got a horse. And then I
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: see my sim and he starts to get like depressed
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: and lonesome, and I'm like, now my fucking sim is
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: depressed and lonesome. I'm sitting here trying to tritch here
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: this sim up and we're both sitting here within our feelings.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, why didn't you get a hot tub?
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: Very good question. I couldn't find the hot tub. I'm
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: not sure if the ranch had hot tub options or
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: if I could and afford it. And also I didn't
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: there weren't any women around. I think I shouldn't be
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: on a ranch because my guy really wanted to flirt
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: and only these old like prospector dudes were coming by,
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: like welcome to the neighborhood, and I wasn't gonna buy
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: them to my hot tub. And then I had to, oh, oh,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: we'll find out how to get a hot tub. I
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: got to text you, well, she knows how to use
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: SIMS for. But then my baby goats, I didn't know
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: they needed milking. I have to milk them, and I
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: was so busy, like moving shit around on the ranch.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: I didn't have time to milk my baby goats.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Can I answer your question?
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: Go ahead?
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Is your ranch still alive?
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: But I'm thinking I shouldn't be on the ranch. I'm
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: going to talk to Joel about it. I think that
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: my character needs some more social interactions and I should
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: be like in a city or a town where I can.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: Like talk to people.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: What are you going to do sell the ranch?
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: I don't know if I think you just started a
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: new game because I just started.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Well, you know, you don't have to be lonely. There
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: is Farmers Only.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: You think I can go on SIMS Farmers Home.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I think that's a possibility.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: There's a bar in town that my character hasn't gone to.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Maybe I should go in there and try.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: To go at a fucking bar. You'll find a girl
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: at the bar.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: But I have so much to do on the farm
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: and I and I'm supposed to milk these goats and
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: I and I wanted to adopt a horse. But while
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: I was trying to take care of this adopted horse,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: my character started looking sad. And I'm like, oh shit,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: why is he so sad? And I clicked on it.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: It's because the baby goats were fucking ramming his shins
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: because I hadn't trained them.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: You're supposed to train the goat.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: You're supposed to you know what do you call it?
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Pet them and domesticates them or whatever?
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: You got it? Got it.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: So there's a lot to do and and and the
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: whole time, I'm thinking, this isn't cheering me up. This
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: is like making me more depressed.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Zach, Right, play fucking red Dead Redemption too,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: that'll cheer you up real quick. Well, go go bouncy, go,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: go get some bounties.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Isn't that about a guy alone?
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Well, yes, yeah, he is alone. But guess what he
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: finds on his lonesome trips?
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: What jewels does he allow to pick up women and
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: like bring them on adventures.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: You could beat the crap out of anybody in the game.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: You don't like meet you don't meet cowgirls.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: You know you'd meet people, but you don't meet them
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: and have.
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: Related Larry, and then you know that's what you should play.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: It exists. Still, No, it doesn't. I bet you. I
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: bet you could find if you go to your Apple,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: your app store.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: It's not like a new incarnation of.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Watch what Happens dude, store app.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Store, store, app store.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Because I want you to do it right now. Leisure
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: suit Larry, No, I don't want to. I'm going to
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: do it just because you did this. I want you
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: to know this is your fault.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: But I don't want to go play a game about
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: a guy in a leisure suit. I just want to
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: get I want to play the sims. I'm liking it,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: but I think I should be in a town where
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: I can socialize. Ran just it's just me and this
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: at this. I got a I got an adopted pony
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: that's skittish. I got two baby goats that need to
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: be milked.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Dude, there's leiser suit, Larry. Wet dreams don't dry.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: Come baby that's the title. Wet dreams don't die.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: No, wet dreams don't dry.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: What dreams don't dry? What you're come out?
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Dreams don't dry.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Wet dreams don't try.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: What year to come out?
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: I don't know. It's let me hold up.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: I want to see how old it is, Daniel's saying
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: is not. That's the reason. I'm sure it's already released,
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: that they released for it.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: I don't think in your twenty twenty four you can
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: make a leisure Shuitt Larry game.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Shit shit, oh you can?
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: Are there games?
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Are there games out there, Daniel that are sexual?
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, twenty nineteen.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: Oh yes, Oh it's twenty nineteen. All right, so it's
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: five years old.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: There's a whole there's like what.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Daniel, like, what's a game where you're like where you're
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: like where there's a lot of intercourse.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: I mean, there are these like simulation type games where
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: you're like literally like stuff.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Oh they're out there. Oh yeah, they're out there. They're
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: just like stuff you can like literally you know, fucking
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: melon like a canalope?
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Does There is there like a weird kind of controller
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: like shaped like a woman's body that.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: It's just so you can choose different things to fuck.
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: Yes, okay, look I don't have a lot of personally,
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: I just know that they're there.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: You can be weird to ask you to look up said.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Can you put those in the chat?
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: I'm going to do it on my other computer. I'll
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: say that, just put those on the chat.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Did I tell a story about how I was playing
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: a game on my like my like like year like
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: nineteen ninety five computer in my college dorm. My roommate
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: walked in while I was having sex with the with the.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: With the game with Leadership.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: No, it was this game where the idea is sorry
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: audience if I told this story.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: But yeah, I've never heard of this.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: The idea was like you moved your mouse and you
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: were trying to have the woman have an orgasm, and
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: you know the like you know, the the what do
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: you call the gauge would go into yellow and then
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: when she was close, she was gonna And I'm just
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: sitting there with your mouse and I'm just doing my best.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: And I had a borning and Christian roommate and uh
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: and he just swung open the door with his borning
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: and Christian girlfriend. He was coming to like show her like,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: and this is my dorm room and I was out
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: of a movie, like I couldn't turn it off. I could,
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: I couldn't find the bar, I couldn't escape, and the
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: girls on the computer like I've got the mouse, I've
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: got the mouse, coming as fast as I can, and
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: I'm just really trying to get this fucking thing off.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: And he took one look and he was so embarrassed.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: He's like, oh, well, come back later, and he's like
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: slammed the door, and I was so embarrassing.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Did you apologize or you guys never spoke of it.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: I think it was so embarrassing that I never was like, hey, sorry,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I was playing that sex game when you brought your galby.
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: So it goes, so it goes. But it was fun the.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Game was you know, is there anything you want to
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: shy about twitching? What?
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: He doesn't twitch anymore?
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Do you mean?
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: What was I doing anything weird sexually on twitch? Ever?
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: I was not weirdest thing I ever did was muck bang.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: And that was weird.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: That sounds just muck bang alone. My kids are my
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: kids know all of it. I mean, you know when
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: you muck bang, no, but when you're into when you're
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: when you're the kids these days know more about what
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: is considered pleasurable for the ears. And you know what
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: I mean. Muck banging is an ear thing. It's an
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: ASMR thing. I didn't know if that.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Ships for people who are into it. Some people find
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: it gross.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Right, And so I was wondering, like why I kept
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: watching all of these uh in recipe videos and stuff
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: like that. And my kid looked at me and said, Dad,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: it's ASMR. You're freaking intrigued by those. And there's my
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: eleven year old kid telling me this, And I was like, oh,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: got it.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: What are you going to do the rest of your day?
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Are you going to go back to building? Uh?
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: Tattooing.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: It's not tattooing. It's a planet that is very much
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: like tattooing.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Are you going to back to building the planet that's
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: very much like tattooing. Uh?
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Yeah. For I got about an hour and then I'm
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: gonna go pick up the kids. I'm gonna take my
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: kid to his workout and then bring him home, feed him.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: We just finished Stranger Things. Listen, parents, if you are
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: a father of an eleven year old boy and a
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: nine year old girl, I do not recommend stranger things
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: for this.
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: We're all scared.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: My daughter was not. But my son slept. My eleven
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: year old. He's going to be so embarrassed by this.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: But he slept in the same bed as us last.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: Night because of monsters.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: That's sweet.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Because he was so afraid. That's what that was. That
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: was his explanation. I was like, boy, go back in
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: your bed, get back in your bed. I'm so scared.
- 1:20:56Speaker 7: Dad.
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: Well, good, good parenting, good y'all.
