- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everyone?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of to check O Daily Andrew
- 0:14Speaker 2: to Checko Eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com. Here.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I hope everyone had a chance to experience the gorgeous
- 0:21Speaker 2: weather we had over the weekend, and make sure you
- 0:24Speaker 2: check out Inside the Birds dot Com Monday morning, because
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'll have my to check O Mock Draft two point
- 0:30Speaker 2: zero out and ready for you guys to consume. I
- 0:34Speaker 2: went a little bit of a different direction than I
- 0:36Speaker 2: did in the previous one, which I guess was late January.
- 0:40Speaker 2: But those who have followed along with my work you
- 0:42Speaker 2: probably already know that I don't like to do mock
- 0:44Speaker 2: draft ten point zero or anything like that. Just give
- 0:48Speaker 2: you three and then Adam, Jeff and I do that
- 0:51Speaker 2: mockdraft roundtable where we go through the first round and
- 0:54Speaker 2: so that that's kind of the way that I like
- 0:56Speaker 2: to leave it. But I always put a lot of
- 0:58Speaker 2: thought into it. I don't do any hype of ethical
- 1:00Speaker 2: trades or anything like that, because I think that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Really muddies the water.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Go with the I go with the picks that are
- 1:06Speaker 2: that the Eagles have, and I kind of go through
- 1:10Speaker 2: it and figure out where I think some of these
- 1:12Speaker 2: players are expected to be slotted.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Obviously, a lot can change.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Between now in a month from now where the NFL
- 1:17Speaker 2: Draft kicks off. But it's a fun exercise and I
- 1:21Speaker 2: hope you guys all enjoy it. But we have to
- 1:24Speaker 2: continue along with our NFC East free agency roundup period.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And I went through the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, the
- 1:32Speaker 2: Washington Commanders on Saturday, and today we wrap things up
- 1:35Speaker 2: with the New York Giants. The New York Giants led
- 1:39Speaker 2: by John Harbaugh as head coach, and I think you're
- 1:42Speaker 2: going to see a little bit of a of a
- 1:45Speaker 2: difference in terms of personnel deployment and maybe positions in
- 1:49Speaker 2: which are prioritized more than others. But they've done some
- 1:53Speaker 2: interesting things in free agency and it's important to get
- 1:55Speaker 2: to that. I think you're going to see more twelve
- 1:58Speaker 2: personnel from the Giants and you've seen in recent years.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And they already had Theo Johnson there at tight end.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I thought he did a nice job and has done
- 2:05Speaker 2: a nice job even as a blocker. But then they
- 2:09Speaker 2: signed Isaiah Likely in free agency to a pretty hefty
- 2:12Speaker 2: contract consummate to I guess it's all relative to his production,
- 2:17Speaker 2: so they're expecting him to be the headliner there at
- 2:20Speaker 2: that position.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I liked him quite a bit.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Coming out of Coastal Carolina dating back to twenty twenty.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I think I even put out that I thought he
- 2:28Speaker 2: was the most underrated tight end in the country.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But he gives that.
- 2:32Speaker 2: He will add to the one two punch that the
- 2:35Speaker 2: Giants now have at tight end, and I like Likely's
- 2:38Speaker 2: ability to stretch the field. He is really good after
- 2:43Speaker 2: the catch and should be able to help Jackson Dart
- 2:45Speaker 2: in his second season along with Theo Johnson. But they've
- 2:49Speaker 2: also added a wide receiver. Darnell Mooney comes over after
- 2:53Speaker 2: spending the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a down year last year, only thirty two catches for
- 2:59Speaker 2: four hundred forty three yards and one touchdown. The year prior,
- 3:02Speaker 2: he had nine hundred and ninety two and five touchdowns.
- 3:05Speaker 2: For context, he had the breakout season there with the
- 3:10Speaker 2: Bears in twenty twenty one where he went over one
- 3:12Speaker 2: thousand and had eighty one receptions.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But I like the fit complimenting.
- 3:17Speaker 2: The leak neighbors, and he gives you a vertical element
- 3:20Speaker 2: and you're getting a player who's probably going to look
- 3:23Speaker 2: at this opportunity as a potential springboard towards kind of
- 3:29Speaker 2: redefining or kind of getting back to the player that
- 3:32Speaker 2: he once was. Sometimes that fresh start rejuvenates you as
- 3:35Speaker 2: a player. And I look at Isaiah Likely and Darnel
- 3:38Speaker 2: Mooney as two intriguing pieces that they were able to
- 3:42Speaker 2: bring into the fold and help that young quarterback. Of course,
- 3:45Speaker 2: camp Scatibow returns after suffering a gruesome injury last season
- 3:51Speaker 2: in Philadelphia, so he'll add some punch to the backfield.
- 3:55Speaker 1: But let's kind of go through it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Because the Giants also added Tremaine Edmond at linebacker.
- 4:01Speaker 1: They signed him to a three year deal.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Remember they are replacing Bobby o'kaake at linebacker, who was
- 4:07Speaker 2: a mainstay on that defense. And Tremaine Edmonds is a
- 4:10Speaker 2: young player. I think he's still hovering around twenty six
- 4:14Speaker 2: or twenty seven years old. It feels like he's been
- 4:16Speaker 2: in the league forever. But I like his length and
- 4:19Speaker 2: his ability to help it against the run and the pass.
- 4:24Speaker 2: A lengthy player. They paid him a decent amount of money.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I believe it was.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Twenty three point seven million, So I mean that's a
- 4:35Speaker 2: pretty hefty contract that they gave out, So I don't
- 4:37Speaker 2: like it from that perspective, you're paying a linebacker that
- 4:40Speaker 2: kind of money. But Tremaine Edmonds when he's healthy, is
- 4:43Speaker 2: the caliber player that I think could really add a
- 4:46Speaker 2: spark to that second level for the Giants. So he's
- 4:49Speaker 2: someone who I like on its base, maybe not the contract.
- 4:52Speaker 2: They were also able to retain Jermaine Illuminor, who has
- 4:56Speaker 2: been a bookend tackle for them. He's their right tack
- 5:00Speaker 2: Andrew Thomas as their left tackle. He's thirty one years
- 5:02Speaker 2: old and he got two years, fourteen million back in
- 5:08Speaker 2: twenty twenty four.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean, look, I think.
- 5:15Speaker 2: He I think when you look at what he's able
- 5:18Speaker 2: to do, he signed the three year deal at thirteen
- 5:23Speaker 2: million per season, and he's a solid football player. The
- 5:27Speaker 2: Giants offensive line for years has been a patchwork unit.
- 5:30Speaker 2: They haven't had a lot of cornerstone type of players.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And I'm not suggesting that thirty one years old Jermaine
- 5:36Speaker 2: Iluminor is that guy, but he is someone who is
- 5:40Speaker 2: a stout right tackle.
- 5:42Speaker 1: They have a bookend set there.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And I really like that. Remember they also lost Wandell Robinson.
- 5:47Speaker 2: While we're staying on the offense. And I'm kind of
- 5:49Speaker 2: jumping around here, but they lost Wandell Robinson in free agency.
- 5:53Speaker 2: He I think he went I forget where Wandell Robinson
- 5:57Speaker 2: went to. But they brought in cal A Austin the third,
- 6:01Speaker 2: who signed a one year deal worth up to four
- 6:04Speaker 2: point five million. And this is sort of an undersized player,
- 6:08Speaker 2: kind of in that mold. Not as explosive or as
- 6:11Speaker 2: dynamic as Wandel Robinson, but a similar type of player,
- 6:14Speaker 2: and I think he could in theory fulfill a similar
- 6:16Speaker 2: type of role. He can also return punts, so that's
- 6:20Speaker 2: an appealing facet that he can bring into the mix there.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I don't know that they're going to be using a
- 6:25Speaker 2: slot receiver all that much. I mentioned the twelve personnel
- 6:28Speaker 2: when you sign someone like Isaiah likely to pair with
- 6:30Speaker 2: THEO Johnson, and you look at the history of John Harball.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And some of his teams over the years.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you're going to see a
- 6:38Speaker 2: lot of twelve personnel there, and that's not really a surprise.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But you have Calvin Austin, you have Darnell Mooney, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: you have Malik Neighbors. Plus you already have Darius Slayton
- 6:49Speaker 2: and some other players. Jalen Hyatt, Bo Collins, Xavier Gibson
- 6:55Speaker 2: former Eagles wide receiver punt returner Xavier Gibson is there
- 6:58Speaker 2: as well. They also re signed offensive tackle Evan Neil
- 7:04Speaker 2: to a one year deal, so they're at they They've
- 7:07Speaker 2: retained a lot of players there. Patrick Ricard signs with
- 7:11Speaker 2: the Giants on a two year deal, so they're gonna
- 7:13Speaker 2: implement the full back there. That's that's something that.
- 7:17Speaker 1: He was a you know.
- 7:19Speaker 2: John Harball had Patrick Ricard in Baltimore and he was
- 7:23Speaker 2: a six time Pro Bowler. So that's gonna be someone
- 7:26Speaker 2: who is going to help pave the way for Camp Scataboo.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I like that fit there.
- 7:32Speaker 2: They've added a new kicker, Jason Sanders, and they added
- 7:36Speaker 2: upun her In Jordan's stout. But Jason Sanders, he signs
- 7:40Speaker 2: a one year contract. He'll beat the he'll be the kicker.
- 7:44Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean they've they've done some they've done
- 7:49Speaker 2: some moves to win outside the margins. A Darius Washington
- 7:53Speaker 2: signed a one year deal. He was with the Baltimore Ravens.
- 7:55Speaker 2: He's an undersized but versatile defensive back. And Greg Newsome
- 8:01Speaker 2: comes over. He's also a corner. He signed a one
- 8:04Speaker 2: year deal. I thought he might have been a good
- 8:05Speaker 2: fit for the Eagles, but Cordell Flock goes to the
- 8:08Speaker 2: Tennessee Titans, so Newsom is in line to start there.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And he signed for one year.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Eight million dollars that could be worth up to ten million,
- 8:19Speaker 2: So that's kind of a low risk signing and he's
- 8:21Speaker 2: played a lot of football in his career. Aaron Stinney
- 8:25Speaker 2: as a guard, he signs a one year deal. He'll
- 8:29Speaker 2: be more of a depth guy. You can see based
- 8:31Speaker 2: off of some of the transactions that I've run through
- 8:33Speaker 2: that the Giants are prioritizing the offensive line and making
- 8:37Speaker 2: sure they have adequate depth there so that you don't
- 8:40Speaker 2: run into a situation where it's bare bones and your quarterback,
- 8:44Speaker 2: your franchise quarterback, and Jackson Darts, who already takes a
- 8:47Speaker 2: lot of hits because of his play style, is not
- 8:50Speaker 2: going to be over exposed. So I like what they've
- 8:53Speaker 2: done from that perspective. Elijah Campbell comes over in a
- 8:57Speaker 2: one year deal. He was with the doll He's more
- 9:00Speaker 2: of a special teams player, and so they are. They've
- 9:04Speaker 2: they've done some things and I think John Harball being
- 9:06Speaker 2: a former special teams coach. I mentioned Jordan Stout the punter,
- 9:10Speaker 2: Jason Sanders. You bring in a special teams guy like
- 9:12Speaker 2: an Elijah Campbell, he they should help there. Jason Pinnock
- 9:17Speaker 2: the safety, he also is on a one year deal.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I think he's gonna help in special teams. So you're
- 9:22Speaker 2: seeing a different a different way of roster construction under
- 9:26Speaker 2: John Harbaugh already. And I think right there that that
- 9:30Speaker 2: leaves reason for optimism if you're a New York Giants
- 9:32Speaker 2: fan looking for change. So let's go through their offensive line.
- 9:37Speaker 2: At left tackle, they have Andrew Thomas left guard, they
- 9:40Speaker 2: have John Runyon, they have John Michael Schmids at center,
- 9:44Speaker 2: Aaron Stinny at right guard, and as I mentioned, Jermaine
- 9:47Speaker 2: Iluminor at right tackle. So I like what they've done.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Evan Neil is projected to be a backup, and so
- 9:57Speaker 2: that their their offense is is trending in the right direction.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We'll see if they're able to put it together. Matt
- 10:03Speaker 2: Naggie is their offensive coordinator. They have a little bit
- 10:05Speaker 2: more to work with there, so that in theory, should
- 10:08Speaker 2: help the offense move forward. And look, I mentioned this
- 10:12Speaker 2: the other day, and I do believe this. It might
- 10:14Speaker 2: not be this year, but in the next year or two,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I can certainly see the NFCS becoming a little bit
- 10:19Speaker 2: more competitive one because I think adding someone like John Harbaugh,
- 10:23Speaker 2: who has a vision and a blueprint for what he
- 10:26Speaker 2: wants and what he knows can be a successful formula,
- 10:28Speaker 2: is going to make the Giants more competitive. I like
- 10:31Speaker 2: what the Commanders have done, sort of rebounding after an
- 10:35Speaker 2: offseason of signing a lot of older players, and they
- 10:38Speaker 2: added some different pieces there that I think are going
- 10:40Speaker 2: to help them become a more well rounded team, a
- 10:44Speaker 2: more competitive team in twenty twenty six. But the defense,
- 10:49Speaker 2: I like their cornerstone players and Brian Burns and Dexter
- 10:52Speaker 2: Lawrence that they have Abdul Carter there.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Of course, I.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Mentioned bringing in Tremaine Edmonds to man the middle of
- 10:59Speaker 2: that second level. He's a big play guy that I
- 11:01Speaker 2: think is going to provide a spark there. Paulson Adebo
- 11:05Speaker 2: is one of their outside corners, and I talked about
- 11:10Speaker 2: already Greg Newsom who comes over from the jack who
- 11:12Speaker 2: was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Drew Phillips is one of
- 11:15Speaker 2: my favorite nickel corners in the NFL. I think he
- 11:19Speaker 2: has really good shredera quickness, instincts, plays the ball really well,
- 11:23Speaker 2: can read the eyes of a quarterback. He's a player
- 11:25Speaker 2: that I believe is sort of starting to come into
- 11:28Speaker 2: his own and he's totally fine there. Their safety situations
- 11:35Speaker 2: better than average. Tyler Nuban, who is a second round
- 11:38Speaker 2: pick in twenty twenty four. Then they have Javon Holland,
- 11:42Speaker 2: who was with the Miami Dolphins if you remember. But
- 11:45Speaker 2: then I also talked about Jason Pennock, who's a good
- 11:47Speaker 2: backup ar Darius Washington who is going to be a
- 11:50Speaker 2: backup there. Deontay Banks, remember they drafted him in the
- 11:55Speaker 2: first round in twenty twenty three. He's expected to be
- 11:58Speaker 2: a backup, and I think that kind of tells you
- 12:00Speaker 2: where his career has headed. I don't want to neglect
- 12:05Speaker 2: Keavon Thibodeau, who's there, Darius Alexander who is a third
- 12:09Speaker 2: round pick in twenty twenty five. So they have some
- 12:11Speaker 2: depth there along the defensive line. Their special teams have
- 12:15Speaker 2: a different look now. Jordan's Stout, the punter, Jason Sanders,
- 12:19Speaker 2: the kicker, Calvin Austin the third comes over and he
- 12:22Speaker 2: could be a punt returner there. They also have a gunner, Olshewsky,
- 12:27Speaker 2: who's been around for a while. He was with the Steelers,
- 12:30Speaker 2: he's been with the Giants. He's bounced around the league
- 12:33Speaker 2: a little bit. So They've done a lot of things
- 12:34Speaker 2: in terms of solidifying the special teams group, and I
- 12:39Speaker 2: like what they've done thus far.
- 12:41Speaker 1: They still need some work at certain positions.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I still believe that they could use some more help
- 12:48Speaker 2: on the back end, especially at the corner position. I'm
- 12:51Speaker 2: not overly sold on Paulson Adebo, and I do believe
- 12:56Speaker 2: that you could improve a little bit at linebacker. Edmonds
- 12:59Speaker 2: is there, but mikeal McFadden he's fine. I'm splitting the
- 13:03Speaker 2: hairs a little bit, but they could certainly add to
- 13:05Speaker 2: that group as well. They're running back the running back situation.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I like Skataboo. I don't know if his style really
- 13:13Speaker 2: lends itself to having a long career because he doesn't
- 13:17Speaker 2: shy away from contact. He craves it at actually and
- 13:20Speaker 2: Tyrone Tracy's a fine backup fifth round pick in twenty
- 13:24Speaker 2: twenty four. But I think the Giants could stand to
- 13:28Speaker 2: benefit from adding a receiving centric running back who would
- 13:31Speaker 2: compliment Skataboo And who that player is.
- 13:35Speaker 1: You probably can find him in the draft.
- 13:37Speaker 2: There's a number of players who I think would fit
- 13:39Speaker 2: the bill, but I think that would really complement their
- 13:41Speaker 2: offense right now because they're lacking an obvious pass catching
- 13:44Speaker 2: running back. As I mentioned Tyrone. Tracy's fine, but I
- 13:47Speaker 2: think they can upgrade there. And yeah, I mean that's
- 13:52Speaker 2: kind of the way that I view their offseason right now.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Hey, if you're like me, you're desensitized to the dozens
- 13:57Speaker 3: of notifications on your phone every day. But if that
- 14:01Speaker 3: latest ping is from your security camera, ignoring it could
- 14:04Speaker 3: spell disaster. Picture this, someone's breaking into your home, but
- 14:07Speaker 3: you're giving a huge presentation at work, or you're at
- 14:10Speaker 3: the movies, or you're thirty thousand feet in the sky
- 14:12Speaker 3: on a flight. You'll see the footage in a couple hours,
- 14:15Speaker 3: but by then it's too late. That's why I choose

- 15:15Speaker 3: game day is stressful enough, parking, traffic, long lines, We've
- 15:19Speaker 3: all been there, But when it comes to your cannabis,
- 15:22Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for

- 15:35Speaker 3: about convenience. Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience.

- 16:03Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Camedn Apothecary, top quality cannabis,
- 16:09Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Right now, their tight end situation is going to be
- 16:15Speaker 2: a fascinating development because Isaiah likely they're banking on him
- 16:21Speaker 2: being a starter. He's stepping out of the shadows of
- 16:23Speaker 2: Mark Andrews with the Ravens, and there's a lot of
- 16:26Speaker 2: expectations there, especially with the contract that he got to
- 16:30Speaker 2: be that frontline guy.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think he can do it.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I'm curious to see if the Giants are able to
- 16:35Speaker 2: maximize his versatility because there's a lot that he can
- 16:38Speaker 2: bring to the table that he hasn't had a chance
- 16:40Speaker 2: to do with the Ravens. And then THEO Johnson the
- 16:44Speaker 2: Giants have to be really pleased with where he is
- 16:46Speaker 2: right now in his career, a good story of development,
- 16:49Speaker 2: a fourth round pick in twenty twenty four, a well
- 16:51Speaker 2: rounded player, and I think he's also going to be
- 16:55Speaker 2: someone that has a prominent role in the offense. I
- 16:57Speaker 2: don't think that Isaiah likely is going to sort of
- 17:00Speaker 2: render him ineffective or anything like that. So that's kind
- 17:03Speaker 2: of the way that I'm viewing the New York Giants
- 17:05Speaker 2: right now, a couple weeks into free agency. They have
- 17:08Speaker 2: some work to do, as every team does. The NFL
- 17:11Speaker 2: draft will give him the opportunity to continue to bolster
- 17:14Speaker 2: that group. I would continue to plug the offensive line
- 17:16Speaker 2: if I'm the Giants. They can never seem to have enough,
- 17:19Speaker 2: and that seems to be where things spiral for them.
- 17:22Speaker 2: They're not able to adequately protect up front. And if
- 17:26Speaker 2: you can't protect upfront, you can't play offense. It's as
- 17:28Speaker 2: simple as that. And as I mentioned earlier, when you
- 17:31Speaker 2: have a quarterback like Jackson Dart who's prone to taking
- 17:34Speaker 2: some big hits because of the way that he plays
- 17:36Speaker 2: the game, you got to make sure that you have
- 17:38Speaker 2: enough bodies there so that there's not a steep drop
- 17:41Speaker 2: off in protection.
- 17:43Speaker 1: That's going to do it.
- 17:44Speaker 2: For this episode of The check O Daily, I'm Andrew
- 17:47Speaker 2: de Cheko and I'll catch you all on the next one.
