- 0:00Speaker 1: Helma chapter twenty five. And behold, now it came to
- 0:05Speaker 1: pass that those Lamanites were more angry because they had
- 0:08Speaker 1: slain their brethren. Therefore they swore vengeance upon the Nephytes,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and they did no more attempt to slay the people
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Anti nephi Lehi at that time. But they took
- 0:18Speaker 1: their armies and went over into the borders of the
- 0:20Speaker 1: land of Zarahemla and fell upon the people who were
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the land of Ammaniha and destroyed them. And after
- 0:27Speaker 1: that they had many battles with the Nephites, in the
- 0:30Speaker 1: which they were driven and slain. And among the Lamanites
- 0:33Speaker 1: who were slain were almost all the seat of Amulan
- 0:36Speaker 1: and his brethren, who were the priests of Noah. And
- 0:39Speaker 1: they were slain by the hands of the Nephites. And
- 0:42Speaker 1: the remainder, having fled into the east wilderness, and having
- 0:45Speaker 1: usurped the power and authority over the Lamanites, caused that
- 0:49Speaker 1: many of the Lamanites should perish by fire because of
- 0:51Speaker 1: their belief. For many of them, after having suffered much
- 0:56Speaker 1: loss and so many afflictions, began to be stirred up
- 0:59Speaker 1: and remembrance of the words which Erin and his brethren
- 1:02Speaker 1: had preached to them in their land. Therefore, they began
- 1:06Speaker 1: to disbelieve the traditions of their fathers and to believe
- 1:09Speaker 1: in the Lord, and that he gave great power unto
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Nephites. And thus there were many of them converted
- 1:15Speaker 1: in the wilderness. And it came to pass that those
- 1:18Speaker 1: rulers who were the remnant of the children of Amulan
- 1:22Speaker 1: caused that they should be put to death. Yea, all
- 1:25Speaker 1: those that believed in these things. Now this martyrdom caused
- 1:29Speaker 1: that many of their brethren should be stirred up to anger,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and there began to be contention in the wilderness, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Lamanites began to hunt the seed of Amulan and
- 1:38Speaker 1: his brethren and began to slay them. And they fled
- 1:41Speaker 1: into the east wilderness, and behold they are hunted at
- 1:45Speaker 1: this day by the Lamanites. Thus the words of Abinadai
- 1:49Speaker 1: were brought to pass, which he said concerning the seed
- 1:52Speaker 1: of the priests, who caused that he should suffer death
- 1:54Speaker 1: by fire. For he said, unto them, what ye shall
- 1:58Speaker 1: do unto me shall be a type of things to come.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And now Abinadai was the first that suffered death by
- 2:05Speaker 1: fire because of his belief in God. Now this is
- 2:08Speaker 1: what he meant, that many should suffer death by fire,
- 2:12Speaker 1: according as he had suffered. And he said unto the
- 2:15Speaker 1: priests of Noah, that their seed should cause many to
- 2:17Speaker 1: be put to death in the like manner as he was,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and that they should be scattered abroad and slain, even
- 2:24Speaker 1: as a sheep having no shepherd, is driven and slain
- 2:27Speaker 1: by wild beasts. And now behold these words were verified,
- 2:32Speaker 1: for they were driven by the Lamanites, and they were hunted,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and they were smitten. And it came to pass that
- 2:39Speaker 1: when the Lamanites saw that they could not overpower the Nephites,
- 2:42Speaker 1: they returned again to their own land. And many of
- 2:45Speaker 1: them came over to dwell in the land of Ishmael
- 2:48Speaker 1: and the land of Nephi, and to join themselves to
- 2:51Speaker 1: the people of God, who were the people of Anti
- 2:53Speaker 1: Nephi Lehi. And they did also bury their weapons of war,
- 2:57Speaker 1: according as their brethren had. And they began to be
- 3:00Speaker 1: a righteous people. And they did walk in the ways
- 3:03Speaker 1: of the Lord, and did observe to keep his commandments
- 3:06Speaker 1: and his statutes yea, and they did keep the law
- 3:10Speaker 1: of Moses, for it was expedient that they should keep
- 3:13Speaker 1: the law of Moses as yet, for it was not
- 3:16Speaker 1: all fulfilled. But notwithstanding the Law of Moses, they did
- 3:20Speaker 1: look forward to the coming of Christ, considering that the
- 3:23Speaker 1: law of Moses was a type of his coming, and
- 3:25Speaker 1: believing that they must keep those outward performances until the
- 3:29Speaker 1: time that He should be revealed unto them. Now they
- 3:33Speaker 1: did not suppose that salvation came by the law of Moses.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But the law of Moses did serve to strengthen their
- 3:38Speaker 1: faith in Christ. And thus they did retain a hope
- 3:42Speaker 1: through faith unto eternal salvation, relying upon the spirit of prophecy,
- 3:47Speaker 1: which spake of those things to come. And now behold,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Ammon and Aaron, and Omna and Hymni and their brethren
- 3:55Speaker 1: did rejoice exceedingly for the success which they had had
- 3:58Speaker 1: among the Lamanites, seeing that the Lord had granted unto
- 4:01Speaker 1: them according to their prayers, and that he had also
- 4:04Speaker 1: verified his word unto them in every particular Almah, chapter
- 4:11Speaker 1: twenty six. And now these are the words of am
- 4:14Speaker 1: unto his brethren, which say, thus, my brothers and my brethren, behold,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I say unto you how great reason we have to rejoice.
- 4:23Speaker 1: For could we have supposed when we started from the
- 4:25Speaker 1: land of Zarahemah, that God would have granted unto us
- 4:28Speaker 1: such great blessings? And now I ask what great blessings
- 4:32Speaker 1: has He bestowed upon us? Can you tell? Behold, I
- 4:35Speaker 1: answer for you. For our brethren, the Lamanites were in darkness, yea,
- 4:40Speaker 1: even in the darkest abyss. But behold, how many of
- 4:44Speaker 1: them are brought to behold the marvelous light of God.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And this is the blessing which hath been bestowed upon us,
- 4:51Speaker 1: that we have been made instruments in the hands of
- 4:53Speaker 1: God to bring about this great work. Behold, thousands of
- 4:57Speaker 1: them do rejoice and have been brought into the fold
- 5:00Speaker 1: of God. Behold, the field was ripe and blessed are
- 5:04Speaker 1: ye For ye did thrust in the sickle, and did
- 5:06Speaker 1: reap with your might. Yea, all the day long did
- 5:10Speaker 1: ye labor. And behold the number of your sheaves. And
- 5:13Speaker 1: they shall be gathered into the gardeners, that they are
- 5:16Speaker 1: not wasted. Yea. They shall not be beaten down by
- 5:20Speaker 1: the storm. It's the last day, yea. Neither shall they
- 5:23Speaker 1: be harrowed up by the whirlwinds. But when the storm cometh,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they shall be gathered together in their place, that the
- 5:31Speaker 1: storm cannot penetrate to them. Yea. Neither shall they be
- 5:34Speaker 1: driven with fierce winds. Whithersoever the enemy list us to
- 5:38Speaker 1: carry them. But behold, they are in the hands of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Lord of the harvest, and they are his, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: He will raise them up at the last day. Blessed
- 5:48Speaker 1: be the name of our God. Let us sing to
- 5:50Speaker 1: his praise. Yea. Let us give thanks to his holy name,
- 5:54Speaker 1: for he doth work righteousness forever. For if we had
- 5:58Speaker 1: not come up out of the land of zarahen Ema,
- 6:00Speaker 1: these are dearly beloved brethren, who have so dearly beloved us,
- 6:05Speaker 1: would still have been racked with hatred against us, yea.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And they would also have been strangers to God. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: it came to pass that when Ammon said these words,
- 6:15Speaker 1: his brother Aaron rebuked him, saying, Ammon, I fear that
- 6:19Speaker 1: thy joy doth carry thee away into boasting. But Damon
- 6:22Speaker 1: said unto him, I do not boast in my own
- 6:25Speaker 1: strength nor in my own wisdom. But behold, my joy
- 6:30Speaker 1: is fool Yea. My heart is brim with joy, and
- 6:33Speaker 1: I will rejoice in my God. Yea, I know that
- 6:37Speaker 1: I am nothing as to my strength, I am weak.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will
- 6:44Speaker 1: boast of my God, for in his strength I can
- 6:47Speaker 1: do all things. Yea. Behold many mighty miracles we have
- 6:51Speaker 1: wrought in this land, for which we will praise his
- 6:54Speaker 1: name forever. Behold, how many thousands of our brethren has
- 6:59Speaker 1: he loosed from the pains of hell, and they are
- 7:02Speaker 1: brought to sing redeeming love. And this because of the
- 7:05Speaker 1: power of His word which is in us. Therefore have
- 7:08Speaker 1: we not great reason to rejoice? Yea, we have reason
- 7:12Speaker 1: to praise him forever. For he is the most high
- 7:15Speaker 1: God and has loosed our brethren from the chains of hell. Yea.
- 7:20Speaker 1: They were encircled about with everlasting darkness and destruction. But behold,
- 7:26Speaker 1: he has brought them into his everlasting light Yea, into
- 7:29Speaker 1: everlasting salvation. And they are encircled about with the matchless
- 7:34Speaker 1: bounty of His love. Yea. And we have been instruments
- 7:38Speaker 1: in his hands of doing this great and marvelous work. Therefore,
- 7:42Speaker 1: let us glory, Yea. We will glory in the Lord. Yea,
- 7:46Speaker 1: we will rejoice, for our joy is full yea, we
- 7:50Speaker 1: will praise our God forever. Behold. Who can glory too
- 7:54Speaker 1: much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much
- 7:57Speaker 1: of his great power, and of his mirdy, and of
- 8:00Speaker 1: his long suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I
- 8:04Speaker 1: say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which
- 8:07Speaker 1: I feel. Who could have supposed that our God would
- 8:11Speaker 1: have been so merciful as to have snatched us from
- 8:14Speaker 1: our awful, sinful and polluted state. Behold, we went forth,
- 8:18Speaker 1: even in wrath, with mighty threatenings to destroy his church.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Oh then, why did he not consign us to an
- 8:25Speaker 1: awful destruction? Yea? Why did he not let the sword
- 8:28Speaker 1: of his justice fall upon us and do us to
- 8:31Speaker 1: eternal despair? Oh? My soul, almost as it were fleeth
- 8:35Speaker 1: at the thought. Behold, he did not exercise his justice
- 8:39Speaker 1: upon us, but in his great mercy hath brought us
- 8:43Speaker 1: over that everlasting gulf of death and misery, even to
- 8:46Speaker 1: the salvation of our souls. And now, behold, my brethren,
- 8:52Speaker 1: what natural man is there that knoweth these things? I
- 8:56Speaker 1: say unto you, there is none that knoweth these things,
- 8:58Speaker 1: save it be the penitent Yea, he that repenteth, and
- 9:02Speaker 1: exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually
- 9:06Speaker 1: without ceasing. Unto such it is given to know the
- 9:09Speaker 1: mysteries of God, yea. Unto such, it shall be given
- 9:12Speaker 1: to reveal things which never have been revealed. Yea. In
- 9:17Speaker 1: it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of
- 9:19Speaker 1: souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto
- 9:23Speaker 1: us to bring these our brethren too repentance. Now do
- 9:28Speaker 1: ye remember, my brethren, that we set unto our brethren
- 9:31Speaker 1: in the land of Zarahemla. We go up to the
- 9:33Speaker 1: land of Nephi to preach unto our brethren, the Lamanites,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and they laughed us to scorn, for they said, unto us,
- 9:42Speaker 1: do ye suppose that ye can bring the Lamanites to
- 9:44Speaker 1: the knowledge of the truth. Do ye suppose that ye
- 9:47Speaker 1: can convince the Lamanites of the incorrectness of the traditions
- 9:50Speaker 1: of their fathers, as stiff necked a people as they are,
- 9:54Speaker 1: whose hearts delight in the shedding of blood, whose days
- 9:57Speaker 1: have been spent in the grossest iniquity, whose ways have
- 10:01Speaker 1: been the ways of a transgressor from the beginning. Now,
- 10:05Speaker 1: my brethren. You remember that this was their language. And moreover,
- 10:08Speaker 1: they did say, let us take up arms against them,
- 10:11Speaker 1: that we destroy them and their iniquity out of the land,
- 10:14Speaker 1: lest they overrun us and destroy us. But behold, my
- 10:18Speaker 1: beloved brethren, we came into the wilderness not with the
- 10:21Speaker 1: intent to destroy our brethren, but with the intent that
- 10:24Speaker 1: perhaps we might save some few of their souls. Now,
- 10:29Speaker 1: when our hearts were depressed and we were about to
- 10:31Speaker 1: turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us and said, go
- 10:36Speaker 1: amongst thy brother and the Lamanites, and bear with patience
- 10:39Speaker 1: thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success. And
- 10:43Speaker 1: now behold, we have come and been forth amongst them,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and we have been patient in our sufferings, and we
- 10:50Speaker 1: have suffered every privation. Yea. We have traveled from house
- 10:54Speaker 1: to house, relying upon the mercies of the world, not
- 10:57Speaker 1: upon the mercies of the world alone, but upon the
- 11:00Speaker 1: mercies of God. And we have entered into their houses
- 11:03Speaker 1: and taught them. And we have taught them in their streets, yea.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And we have taught them upon their heels. And we
- 11:10Speaker 1: have also entered into their temples and their synagogues and
- 11:13Speaker 1: taught them, and we have been cast out and mocked,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and spit upon and smote upon our cheeks. And we
- 11:19Speaker 1: have been stoned and taken and bound with strong cords
- 11:22Speaker 1: and cast into prison. And through the power and wisdom
- 11:26Speaker 1: of God, we have been delivered again. And we have
- 11:29Speaker 1: suffered all manner of afflictions, and all this that perhaps
- 11:31Speaker 1: we might be the means of saving some soul. And
- 11:36Speaker 1: we suppose that our joy would be full if perhaps
- 11:38Speaker 1: we could be the means of saving some. But behold,
- 11:42Speaker 1: we can look forth and see the fruits of our labors.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And are they few, I say unto you, nay, they
- 11:48Speaker 1: are many, yea. And we can witness of their sincerity
- 11:52Speaker 1: because of their love towards their brethren and also towards us.
- 11:56Speaker 1: For behold, they had rather sacrificed their lives than even
- 11:59Speaker 1: to take the life of their enemy. And they have
- 12:02Speaker 1: buried their weapons of war deep in the earth because
- 12:04Speaker 1: of their love towards their brethren. And now, behold, I
- 12:08Speaker 1: say unto you, has there been so great love in
- 12:11Speaker 1: all the land? Behold, I say unto you, nay, there
- 12:14Speaker 1: has not, even among the Nephites. For behold, they would
- 12:17Speaker 1: take up arms against their brethren. They would not suffer
- 12:20Speaker 1: themselves to be slain. But behold, how many of these
- 12:24Speaker 1: have laid down their lives, and we know that they
- 12:27Speaker 1: have gone to their God because of their love and
- 12:29Speaker 1: of their hatred to sin. Now have we not reason
- 12:33Speaker 1: to rejoice? Yea, I say unto you, There never were
- 12:36Speaker 1: men that had so great reason to rejoice as we
- 12:39Speaker 1: since the world began. Yea. And my joy is carried
- 12:42Speaker 1: away even unto boasting in my God. For he has
- 12:45Speaker 1: all power, all wisdom, and all understanding. He comprehendeth all things,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and he is a merciful being, even unto salvation to
- 12:54Speaker 1: those who will repent and believe on His name. Now,
- 12:58Speaker 1: if this is boasting, even so will I boast. For
- 13:02Speaker 1: this is my life and my light, my joy, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: my salvation and my redemption from everlasting woe. Yea, Blessed
- 13:09Speaker 1: is the name of God, who has been mindful of
- 13:12Speaker 1: this people, who are a branch of the tree of
- 13:15Speaker 1: Israel and has been lost from its body in a
- 13:18Speaker 1: strange land. Yea, I say, blessed be the name of
- 13:21Speaker 1: my God, who has been mindful of us wanderers in
- 13:24Speaker 1: a strange land. Now, my brethren, we see that God
- 13:28Speaker 1: is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in. Yea,
- 13:33Speaker 1: He numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are
- 13:36Speaker 1: over all the earth. Now this is my joy and
- 13:39Speaker 1: my great thanksgiving Yea, and I will give thanks unto
- 13:43Speaker 1: my God forever Amen, Almah chapter twenty seven. Now it
- 13:52Speaker 1: came to pass that when those Lamanites who had gone
- 13:54Speaker 1: to war against the Nephites had found, after their many
- 13:57Speaker 1: struggles to destroy them, that it was in vain to
- 14:00Speaker 1: seek their destruction, they returned again to the land of Nephi.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the Amalekites, because of
- 14:07Speaker 1: their loss, were exceedingly angry, And when they saw that
- 14:10Speaker 1: they could not seek revenge from the Nephites, they began
- 14:13Speaker 1: to stir up the people in anger against their brethren,
- 14:17Speaker 1: the people of antiin Nephi Lehi. Therefore they began again
- 14:21Speaker 1: to destroy them. Now this people again refused to take
- 14:25Speaker 1: their arms, and they suffered themselves to be slain according
- 14:28Speaker 1: to the desires of their enemies. Now, when Ammon and
- 14:31Speaker 1: his brethren saw this work of destruction among those whom
- 14:35Speaker 1: they so dearly beloved and among those who had so
- 14:38Speaker 1: dearly beloved them, for they were treated as though they
- 14:42Speaker 1: were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction. Therefore,
- 14:47Speaker 1: when Ammon and his brethren saw this great work of destruction,
- 14:51Speaker 1: they were moved with compassion, and they said, unto the King,
- 14:55Speaker 1: let us gather together this people of the Lord, and
- 14:57Speaker 1: let us go down to the land of zarah Hemlet
- 14:59Speaker 1: to our brethren, the Nephites, and flee out of the
- 15:02Speaker 1: hands of our enemies, that we be not destroyed. But
- 15:05Speaker 1: the King said unto them, behold, the Nephites will destroy
- 15:09Speaker 1: us because of the many murders and sins we have
- 15:12Speaker 1: committed against them. And Ammon said, I will go and
- 15:17Speaker 1: inquire of the Lord. And if he say unto us,
- 15:20Speaker 1: go down unto our brethren, will ye go? And the
- 15:24Speaker 1: King said unto him, yea, if the Lord saith unto
- 15:27Speaker 1: us go, we will go down unto our brethren, and
- 15:30Speaker 1: we will be their slaves until we repair unto them
- 15:33Speaker 1: the many murders and sins which we have committed against them.
- 15:37Speaker 1: But Ammon said unto him, it is against the law
- 15:40Speaker 1: of our brethren, which was established by my father, that
- 15:44Speaker 1: there should be any slaves among them. Therefore, let us
- 15:47Speaker 1: go down and rely upon the mercies of our brethren.
- 15:50Speaker 1: But the king said unto him, inquire of the Lord,
- 15:54Speaker 1: and if he saith unto us, go we will go.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Otherwise we will perish in the land. And it came
- 16:01Speaker 1: to pass that Amon went and inquired of the Lord,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and the Lord said unto him, get this people out
- 16:08Speaker 1: of this land, that they perish not, for Satan has
- 16:12Speaker 1: great hold on the hearts of the Amalekites, who do
- 16:15Speaker 1: stir up the Lamanites to anger against their brethren to
- 16:18Speaker 1: slay them. Therefore, get thee out of this land and
- 16:22Speaker 1: blester this people in this generation, for I will preserve them.
- 16:27Speaker 1: And now it came to pass that Amon went and
- 16:30Speaker 1: told the king all the words which the Lord had
- 16:33Speaker 1: said unto him, and they gathered together all their people, yea,
- 16:36Speaker 1: all the people of the Lord, and to gather together
- 16:39Speaker 1: all their flocks and herds, and departed out of the
- 16:42Speaker 1: land and came into the wilderness which divided the land
- 16:45Speaker 1: of Nephi from the land of Zarahemla, and came over
- 16:49Speaker 1: near the borders of the land. And it came to
- 16:51Speaker 1: pass that Amon said unto them, behold, I and my
- 16:55Speaker 1: brethren will go forth into the land of Zaraheimla. And
- 16:58Speaker 1: ye shall remain here until we return, and we will
- 17:01Speaker 1: try the hearts of our brethren, whether they will that
- 17:04Speaker 1: we shall come into their land. And it came to
- 17:07Speaker 1: pass that as Ammon was going forth into the land,
- 17:10Speaker 1: that he and his brethren met Alma over in the
- 17:13Speaker 1: place of which has been spoken. And behold, this was
- 17:17Speaker 1: a joyful meeting. Now the joy of Amon was so
- 17:20Speaker 1: great even that he was full. Yea, he was swallowed
- 17:23Speaker 1: up in the joy of his God, even to the
- 17:25Speaker 1: exhausting of his strength, and he fell again to the earth.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Now was not this exceeding joy. Behold, this is joy
- 17:33Speaker 1: which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and
- 17:36Speaker 1: humble seeker of happiness. Now the joy of Alma in
- 17:40Speaker 1: meeting his brethren was truly great, and also the joy
- 17:43Speaker 1: of Erin of Omna and Hymnai. But behold, their joy
- 17:47Speaker 1: was not that to exceed their strength. And now it
- 17:50Speaker 1: came to pass that Almah conducted his brethren back to
- 17:53Speaker 1: the land of Zarahemla, even to his own house. And
- 17:56Speaker 1: they went and told the chief judge all the things
- 17:59Speaker 1: that had happened unto them in the land of Nephi
- 18:01Speaker 1: among their brethren, the Lamanites. And it came to pass
- 18:05Speaker 1: that the Chief Judge sent a proclamation throughout all the land,
- 18:08Speaker 1: desiring the voice of the people concerning the admitting their
- 18:11Speaker 1: brethren who were the people of Anti Nephi Lehi. And
- 18:15Speaker 1: it came to pass that the voice of the people
- 18:17Speaker 1: came saying, behold, we will give up the land of Jershan,
- 18:21Speaker 1: which is on the east by the sea, which joins
- 18:24Speaker 1: the land Bountiful, which is on the south of the
- 18:26Speaker 1: Land Bountiful. And this land Jershan is the land which
- 18:30Speaker 1: we will give unto our brethren for an inheritance. And behold,
- 18:34Speaker 1: we will set our armies between the land a Jershan
- 18:36Speaker 1: and the Land Nephi, that we may protect our brethren
- 18:39Speaker 1: in the land Ajersan. And this we do for our
- 18:42Speaker 1: brethren on account of their fear to take up arms
- 18:44Speaker 1: against their brethren lest they should commit sin. And this
- 18:48Speaker 1: their great fear came because of their sore repentance which
- 18:51Speaker 1: they had on account of their many murders and their
- 18:54Speaker 1: awful wickedness. And now behold, this will we do unto
- 18:58Speaker 1: our brethren, that they may inherit the land Jersian, and
- 19:01Speaker 1: we will guard them from their enemies with our armies,
- 19:04Speaker 1: on condition that they will give us a portion of
- 19:07Speaker 1: their substance to assist us, that we may maintain our armies.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Now it came to pass that when Amon had heard this,
- 19:15Speaker 1: he returned to the people of Anti Nephi Lehi, and
- 19:17Speaker 1: also Alma with him into the wilderness where they had
- 19:20Speaker 1: pitched their tents, and made known unto them all these things.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And Alma also related unto them his conversion with Amin
- 19:27Speaker 1: and Aaron and his brethren. And it came to pass
- 19:31Speaker 1: that it did cause great joy among them, and they
- 19:33Speaker 1: went down into the land of Jertian and took possession
- 19:36Speaker 1: of the land of Jertian. And they were called by
- 19:38Speaker 1: the Nephites the people of Amen. Therefore they were distinguished
- 19:42Speaker 1: by that name ever after. And they were among the
- 19:45Speaker 1: people of Nephi, and also numbered among the people who
- 19:48Speaker 1: were of the Church of God. And they were also
- 19:51Speaker 1: distinguished for their zeal towards God and also towards men.
- 19:55Speaker 1: For they were perfectly honest and upright in all things,
- 19:59Speaker 1: and they were firm in the faith of Christ, even
- 20:01Speaker 1: unto the end. And they did look upon shedding the
- 20:05Speaker 1: blood of their brethren with the greatest abhorrence, and they
- 20:08Speaker 1: never could be prevailed upon to take up arms against
- 20:11Speaker 1: their brethren, and they never did look upon death with
- 20:14Speaker 1: any degree of terror, for their hope and views of
- 20:16Speaker 1: Christ and the resurrection. Therefore, death was swallowed up to
- 20:21Speaker 1: them by the victory of Christ over it. Therefore they
- 20:24Speaker 1: would suffer death in the most aggravating and distressing manner
- 20:27Speaker 1: which could be inflicted by their brethren, before they would
- 20:30Speaker 1: take the sword or simeter to smite them. And thus
- 20:34Speaker 1: they were a zealous and a beloved people, a highly
- 20:38Speaker 1: favored people of the Lord Alma chapter twenty eight. And
- 20:46Speaker 1: now it came to pass that after the people of
- 20:48Speaker 1: Ammon were established in the land of Jersian, and a
- 20:50Speaker 1: church also established in the land of Jersian, and the
- 20:53Speaker 1: armies of the Nephites were set round about the land
- 20:55Speaker 1: of Jersian Yea and all the borders round about the
- 20:58Speaker 1: land of Zarahemla. Behold, the armies of the Lamanites had
- 21:02Speaker 1: followed their brethren into the wilderness. And thus there was
- 21:06Speaker 1: a tremendous battle Yea, even such an one as never
- 21:10Speaker 1: had been known among all the people in the land
- 21:12Speaker 1: from the time Lehi left Jerusalem Yea, and tens of
- 21:16Speaker 1: thousands of the Lamanites were slain and scattered abroad Yea.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And also there was a tremendous slaughter among the people
- 21:23Speaker 1: of Nephi. Nevertheless, the Lamanites were driven and scattered, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: the people of Nephi returned again to their land. And
- 21:33Speaker 1: now this was a time that there was a great
- 21:35Speaker 1: mourning and lamentation heard throughout all the land, among all
- 21:38Speaker 1: the people of Nephi. Yea, the cry of widows mourning
- 21:42Speaker 1: for their husbands, and also of fathers mourning for their sons,
- 21:47Speaker 1: and the daughter for the brother, Yea, the brother for
- 21:50Speaker 1: the father. And thus the cry of mourning was heard
- 21:54Speaker 1: among all of them, mourning for their kindred who had
- 21:58Speaker 1: been slain. And now surely this was a sorrowful day Yea,
- 22:03Speaker 1: a time of solemnity, and a time of much fasting
- 22:06Speaker 1: and prayer. And thus ended the fifteenth year of the
- 22:10Speaker 1: reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi. And
- 22:13Speaker 1: this is the account of Ammon and his brethren, their
- 22:16Speaker 1: journeyings in the land of Nephi, their sufferings in the land,
- 22:20Speaker 1: their sorrows, and their afflictions and their incomprehensible joy, and
- 22:25Speaker 1: the reception and safety of the brethren in the land
- 22:28Speaker 1: of Jershan. And now may the Lord, the Redeemer of
- 22:31Speaker 1: all men, bless their souls forever. And this is the
- 22:36Speaker 1: account of the wars and contentions among the Nephites, and
- 22:39Speaker 1: also the wars between the Nephites and the Lamanites. And
- 22:43Speaker 1: the fifteenth year of the reign of the Judges is ended.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And from the first year to the fifteenth has brought
- 22:50Speaker 1: to pass the destruction of many thousand lives. Yea. It
- 22:53Speaker 1: has brought to pass an awful scene of bloodshed, and
- 22:57Speaker 1: the bodies of many thousands are laid low in the
- 22:59Speaker 1: earth Earth, while the bodies of many thousands are moldering
- 23:03Speaker 1: in heaps upon the face of the earth. Yea. And
- 23:06Speaker 1: many thousands are mourning for the loss of their kindred,
- 23:09Speaker 1: because they have reason to fear, according to the promises
- 23:12Speaker 1: of the Lord, that they are consigned to a state
- 23:14Speaker 1: of endless woe. While many thousands of others truly mourn
- 23:18Speaker 1: for the loss of their kindred, yet they rejoice and
- 23:21Speaker 1: exult in the hope, and even know, according to the
- 23:24Speaker 1: promises of the Lord, that they are raised to dwell
- 23:26Speaker 1: at the right hand of God in a state of
- 23:29Speaker 1: never ending happiness. And thus we see how great the
- 23:33Speaker 1: inequality of man is because of sin and transgression, and
- 23:37Speaker 1: the power of the devil, which comes by the cunning
- 23:39Speaker 1: plans which he hath devised to ensnare the hearts of men.
- 23:44Speaker 1: And thus we see the great call of diligence of
- 23:46Speaker 1: men to labour in the vineyards of the Lord. And
- 23:49Speaker 1: thus we see the great reason of sorrow and also
- 23:52Speaker 1: of rejoicing, sorrow because of death and destruction among men,
- 23:57Speaker 1: and joy because of the light of Christ unto life
- 24:03Speaker 1: and of Alma Chapters twenty five through twenty eight
