• 1:31
Speaker 4: Next Thursday, we'll talk to Delicate Lewis about that, plus
• 1:34
Speaker 4: the big news in town, you know, the last couple
• 1:35
Speaker 4: of days, Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler Goodwin announcing at City
• 1:39
Speaker 4: Council during the State of the City address on Monday
• 1:41
Speaker 4: night that the City of Charleston is least looking at
• 1:45
Speaker 4: some talks with a whole group that owns the Town
• 1:48
Speaker 4: Center Mall that would allow the city to take over
• 1:50
Speaker 4: the mall. Now we have stories posted about it, of
• 1:53
Speaker 4: course wv Metronews dot com at WCCHS Network dot com.
• 1:56
Speaker 4: I spent a lot of time on the last the
• 2:00
Speaker 4: last twenty four to forty eight hours, especially twenty four
• 2:03
Speaker 4: hours talking about it with the mayor yesterday on this show,
• 2:07
Speaker 4: and then later I met your News midday. Then I
• 2:08
Speaker 4: made an appearance on talk Line with Wilson Meadows to
• 2:11
Speaker 4: talk about it yesterday. So we've heard from the mayor
• 2:14
Speaker 4: and you've obviously heard from me on it, but I
• 2:15
Speaker 4: want to hear from you. We had some text yesterday
• 2:18
Speaker 4: and got them in there as best I could. But
• 2:21
Speaker 4: towards the latter part of the show today, turn it
• 2:24
Speaker 4: over to you with your thoughts on the town Center.
• 2:27
Speaker 4: And you know, it looks like the city of Charleston,
• 2:30
Speaker 4: As I said, that's the plan, and we're sort of
• 2:32
Speaker 4: long way away from that, but that the whole group
• 2:37
Speaker 4: good possibility that you're going to turn the town Center
• 2:39
Speaker 4: over the city. So what does what does that mean? Well,
• 2:41
Speaker 4: the city's not in the in the retail business, so
• 2:45
Speaker 4: just keep that in mind. That's not what they do.
• 2:47
Speaker 4: So we'll talk about it. You can weigh in if
• 2:50
Speaker 4: you want to text me anytime during the show courtesy
• 2:51
Speaker 4: of Tony the Taylor three zero four nine three five

Speaker 4: zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. We'll
• 3:01
Speaker 4: get into all that a little bit later on, but
• 3:03
Speaker 4: right now, it's Girl Scout Cookie time. Joe Lgates Girl Scouts,
• 3:08
Speaker 4: the Bike Diamond Counsel is here. Welcome to the show.
• 3:10
  Speaker 4: How you doing?
• 3:11
Speaker 6: Absolutely? Thank you for having me.
• 3:12
Speaker 4: Remember what was going on? You and I were talking
• 3:14
Speaker 4: about this off the air, what was going on at
• 3:16
Speaker 4: this point last year?
• 3:17
Speaker 6: All that horrible snow, all that horrible snow it.
• 3:21
Speaker 4: Hit on Sunday and we talked about that. And I'm
• 3:24
Speaker 4: a weather geek, so just look over me here last
• 3:28
Speaker 4: this time of year ago, on that Sunday, it started
• 3:30
Speaker 4: off real gray whatever, and we had snow and we
• 3:33
Speaker 4: put ice on top of that. Then we had snow,
• 3:35
Speaker 4: basically shut down everything for a couple of days. And
• 3:40
Speaker 4: you go from that into this morning and I pull
• 3:43
Speaker 4: in out here. I get here about seven or so
• 3:45
Speaker 4: at eleven eleven and get out of the car and
• 3:48
  Speaker 4: I've got a light jacket on. I'm thinking, I don't
• 3:50
Speaker 4: even need this jacket. What a difference a year makes.
• 3:53
Speaker 7: Right, One thing remains the same. Girl Scout cookies are here.
• 3:57
Speaker 4: Trans perfect transition night. So, and you and I had
• 4:01
Speaker 4: we're trading emails back and forth a couple of weeks
• 4:03
Speaker 4: ago about having you on the show, and you said
• 4:06
Speaker 4: at the time, you said, well, you maybe we can
• 4:08
Speaker 4: bring a couple of girl Scouts with us, and that
• 4:10
Speaker 4: I thought, well, that'll be a great idea. And then
• 4:12
Speaker 4: I sort of think, well, they're back in school, and
• 4:14
Speaker 4: that kind of goes against everything the girl Scouts are
• 4:17
Speaker 4: to bust them out of school to go talk on
• 4:18
Speaker 4: the radio, right, you got teach them responsibility.
• 4:20
Speaker 7: Well, you know, I will say that we do really
• 4:22
Speaker 7: try to provide really amazing opportunities. So we do have
• 4:25
Speaker 7: girls with us at certain times. I'll come back later
• 4:28
Speaker 7: in the season and bring some girls.
• 4:30
Speaker 4: All right, But but right now, as you and I
• 4:32
Speaker 4: were talking, like everybody's sick at this point.
• 4:35
Speaker 7: Right now, I apologize.
• 4:40
Speaker 4: Keep the kids away from here for right now. Okay,
• 4:41
Speaker 4: we got enough sickness going on. He's building, all right,
• 4:44
Speaker 4: So do is girl Scout cookie time? By the way,
• 4:46
Speaker 4: thank you for the gifts over here. I appreciate that.
• 4:49
Speaker 3: What do we have here?
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: Hold on?
• 4:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, so you say explore mores that's the new one. Yeah,
• 4:55
  Speaker 4: we meant.
• 4:56
Speaker 6: Of course, we kick off tomorrow.
• 4:57
Speaker 7: We've got our amazing lineup, but we're super excited to
• 5:00
Speaker 7: offer a brand new cookie, the Explore More inspired by
• 5:04
Speaker 7: Exploration and influenced by Rocky Road ice Cream. It's a
• 5:08
Speaker 7: great opportunity for girls to sell something new and for
• 5:12
Speaker 7: our community to support the girls and offering that cookie.
• 5:16
Speaker 4: All right, So it's uh, this is the definition straight
• 5:19
Speaker 4: off the box. Poor Ryan, our producers licking the glass
• 5:22
Speaker 4: in there right now. I got you, man, I got you,
• 5:23
Speaker 4: I got you. Rocky Road ice cream inspired cookies filled
• 5:27
Speaker 4: with flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond kreme. There
• 5:32
Speaker 4: a delicious may make it sound good, all right. Of
• 5:35
Speaker 4: course you brought thin Mints as well, So those what
• 5:37
Speaker 4: it is the most popular overall? I mean one or
• 5:40
  Speaker 4: two that.
• 5:41
Speaker 7: Locally it's always a fight between Samoa's and thin Mints. Okay,
• 5:45
Speaker 7: our customers really show up to show love for those
• 5:47
Speaker 7: two specifically, But honestly, we have folks that love every
• 5:51
Speaker 7: single cookie, and that's why I'm so excited to offer
• 5:53
  Speaker 7: the new one.
• 5:54
Speaker 4: You know, I am not as big on the thin Mints,
• 5:57
Speaker 4: and I'll tell you why. I love mint and I looked.
• 5:59
Speaker 4: I just I've never been one that literally liked the
• 6:01
Speaker 4: mixing of the two, you know, And that's okay, But
• 6:04
Speaker 4: Samoa's and Docy does.
• 6:06
Speaker 7: I'm all in next time when I bring the girls,
• 6:09
Speaker 7: we'll bring these cookies for you.
• 6:10
Speaker 4: Right, all right? So how do they decide, Doyle, I mean,
• 6:15
Speaker 4: in a lab, focused groups or whatever. And then they
• 6:18
Speaker 4: probably take I think you mentioned this on the show before.
• 6:20
Speaker 4: They probably take recommendations from the actual girl Scouts or
• 6:23
Speaker 4: what the flavor should be. But what goes into that?
• 6:25
Speaker 7: So the National Organization explained that this cookie came about
• 6:29
Speaker 7: through national polling. They found that Rocky Road ice cream
• 6:32
Speaker 7: is actually the most popular ice cream flavor across the country,
• 6:36
Speaker 7: and so in focus groups like you mentioned, they created
• 6:40
Speaker 7: a couple of different cookies, and that cookie performed the highest.
• 6:44
Speaker 7: Most folks don't know that we actually have two bakers
• 6:46
Speaker 7: that create cookies, so different parts of the country have
• 6:48
Speaker 7: different cookies. The core cookies like our thin Men's are taglong,
• 6:52
Speaker 7: Samoa's those remain the same. But we actually saw that
• 6:56
Speaker 7: and both of those bakers, the explore More performed the
• 6:59
Speaker 7: best and really got the greatest reviews.
• 7:02
Speaker 4: All right, we'll keep talking because I'm going to open
• 7:04
  Speaker 4: these up absolutely.
• 7:05
Speaker 7: Well, I'll just go ahead and say that the sale
• 7:07
Speaker 7: cakes off tomorrow. We're really excited for folks to participate
• 7:11
Speaker 7: and support our girls, you know, girl Scout cookies. It's
• 7:14
Speaker 7: it's more than just you know, selling cookies. The proceeds
• 7:17
Speaker 7: they help create lifelong opportunities for our girls and provide
• 7:22
  Speaker 7: life changing experiences.
• 7:23
Speaker 4: All right, Well, keep talking, because I'm distributing cookies right now.
• 7:26
  Speaker 6: Heck yeah.
• 7:27
Speaker 7: So the best way for folks to support the sale
• 7:30
Speaker 7: is to go to a local troop or find a
• 7:34
Speaker 7: local Girl Scout. If you don't know a Girl Scout
• 7:37
Speaker 7: in your region, you can contact the Girl Scouts of
• 7:39
Speaker 7: Black Diamond Council on Facebook and we will connect you
• 7:43
Speaker 7: with a local troop. We also offer online sales and
• 7:47
Speaker 7: so folks can have cookies ship directly to their door.
• 7:50
Speaker 4: Okay, so I brought in a couple of experts here.
• 7:54
Speaker 4: I get Ryan, Ryan, our producer. Is this thing on autopilot?
• 7:59
Speaker 4: I guess try you just started on and I hope
• 8:01
Speaker 4: it is. Ryan is supposed to be another side of
• 8:04
Speaker 4: glasses and Bobby Spry sales. Weasel Uh is in here
• 8:07
Speaker 4: as well, And because all right, so if we have
• 8:10
Speaker 4: you tried it? Man, Yes, it's good, it's really good.
• 8:13
Speaker 4: I really like them, Bobby, I love it.
• 8:15
Speaker 8: I wish I had a glass of milk to dip
• 8:17
  Speaker 8: it in.
• 8:18
Speaker 3: That would be good, that would.
• 8:19
  Speaker 6: Be perfect perfect.
• 8:20
Speaker 4: Could you go to some milk, Joel?
• 8:22
Speaker 6: Absolutely, let me be right back.
• 8:24
Speaker 4: These are these are very good. They're they're very good.
• 8:28
  Speaker 4: And it's a little bit more chocolately. I mean, I
• 8:29
Speaker 4: know what Rocky Road is. It's a little bit more
• 8:31
Speaker 4: chocolatey than what I thought they.
• 8:32
  Speaker 3: Would be there.
• 8:33
  Speaker 4: But they're they're very good.
• 8:35
  Speaker 6: It's like a chocolate lover's dream, really.
• 8:39
  Speaker 1: Cooking.
• 8:40
Speaker 8: What are your favorite? Dame mine too?
• 8:43
Speaker 6: No, those are the classics.
• 8:45
Speaker 8: I've loved coconut since before. I should have loved them.
• 8:49
Speaker 8: You know they say it's an old people's old.
• 8:53
Speaker 6: There's nothing wrong with that.
• 8:55
Speaker 4: I told Ryan. Ryan asked me if you were to
• 8:57
Speaker 4: bring in Girl Scout cookies, and I said, well, what
• 8:59
Speaker 4: I do is I said, if I've got them, you
• 9:02
Speaker 4: can have them, all right, Ryan. There's two packages in here,
• 9:04
Speaker 4: so so guess what. You get one and I get one. Bobby,
• 9:08
Speaker 4: you want to, Okay, I'll bring them up later because
• 9:10
Speaker 4: I want to get a photo with Joell, So come
• 9:12
Speaker 4: back and get a picture a little bit later, Bobby,
• 9:14
Speaker 4: if you don't care. How is the sales of Girl
• 9:19
Speaker 4: Scout cookies changed over the years, Because I'm old enough
• 9:22
Speaker 4: to remember, and I'm a lot older than you, but
• 9:23
Speaker 4: I'm old enough to remember that when they would literally
• 9:26
Speaker 4: go door to door, and I don't think they do they.
• 9:28
Speaker 7: Do that, so we still do that. We've really kind
• 9:31
Speaker 7: of shifted our focus. And of course, you know at
• 9:33
Speaker 7: Girl Scott's up Black Time in council, we're so unique
• 9:35
Speaker 7: and that the geography of our service region is, you know,
• 9:40
Speaker 7: so different than different parts of the country. We cover
• 9:43
Speaker 7: sixty one counties across four states. We have areas of
• 9:47
Speaker 7: our council where that community door to door sale is
• 9:51
Speaker 7: really still important. But then we also offer online sales.
• 9:55
Speaker 7: Each girl that participates in the Girl Scout Cookie program
• 9:58
Speaker 7: they have an opportunity to put together an online platform
• 10:01
Speaker 7: so they can produce a e commerce opportunity for those
• 10:05
Speaker 7: looking to support. So there's really different means of participation.
• 10:09
Speaker 7: And then of course in the spring, we'll have our
• 10:11
Speaker 7: Girl Scout Cookie booths and everyone knows and loves you
• 10:14
Speaker 7: can expect those in late February.
• 10:19
Speaker 4: I think the whole idea behind selling the Girl Scout cookies,
• 10:22
Speaker 4: Joel goes back, if you look in the history, and
• 10:24
Speaker 4: you and I have talked about it before, it's not
• 10:26
Speaker 4: about the cookies necessarily. It's not even about raising money.
• 10:30
Speaker 4: It's about it's about teaching entrepreneurship so to speak.
• 10:34
Speaker 7: Yeah, So the Girl Scout Cookie program that provides five
• 10:37
Speaker 7: life skills such as money management, people skills, business ethics,
• 10:41
Speaker 7: and like you said, we're really trying to give girls
• 10:43
Speaker 7: that curve that set them up for success later in life.
• 10:46
Speaker 7: You know, we've we've had alumni go on and do
• 10:49
Speaker 7: great things and went out jobs over other applicants of
• 10:54
Speaker 7: job positions because they have the skills that they gain
• 10:57
Speaker 7: through the Girl Scout Cookie sale. So you know, you
• 11:00
Speaker 7: may look at a Girl Scout and just see it
• 11:02
Speaker 7: as like a really cute, fun opportunity for a girl
• 11:04
Speaker 7: to get involved, but it's really an opportunity for them
• 11:07
Speaker 7: to gain lifelong skills.
• 11:09
Speaker 4: The joelgates from the Black Diamond Council of Girl Scouts,
• 11:12
Speaker 4: It's a Girl Scout Cookie Time. The Dave Allen Show
• 11:14
Speaker 4: on five eighty line brought to you apart by Bridge
• 11:16
Speaker 4: Valley Community Technical College was Bridge Valley dot edu Bridge
• 11:19
Speaker 4: Valley Community Technical College. Your career starts here tech. Joel says,
• 11:23
Speaker 4: love love love. They put three loves in there, love love,
• 11:26
Speaker 4: love dosey does even better. Put them in the microwave
• 11:29
Speaker 4: for about twenty seconds. Wow.
• 11:31
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 11:32
Speaker 4: Do you find that a lot when you talk about
• 11:33
Speaker 4: Girl Scout cookies that people do? I mean, because I
• 11:35
Speaker 4: know what the thin mints, A lot of people freeze them,
• 11:37
Speaker 4: freeze them. Yeah, what are some other things that you've
• 11:39
  Speaker 4: heard about people?
• 11:40
Speaker 7: So we have a cookie adventureful. It came out a
• 11:42
Speaker 7: couple of years ago. It's a Brownie inspired cookie and
• 11:46
Speaker 7: people microwave that we in the office we sometimes have
• 11:50
Speaker 7: fun stuff where we'll do cooking contest and create different
• 11:54
Speaker 7: creations with the cookies. So it's really endless what you
• 11:57
Speaker 7: can do with a Girl Scout cookie.
• 11:59
Speaker 4: I mean, and I would think too again that goes
• 12:01
Speaker 4: along the lines if you in your group, you may
• 12:04
Speaker 4: have future future restauranteur, future chef there, you know, and
• 12:08
Speaker 4: come up with different creations.
• 12:09
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 12:09
Speaker 4: If somebody's listening right now and they want to purchase
• 12:12
Speaker 4: Girl Scouts pies but they don't really you know, they
• 12:15
Speaker 4: don't have kids, that don't have grandkids, that don't have
• 12:17
Speaker 4: neighbors you know, that have kids or whatever. So they're
• 12:19
Speaker 4: just listening right and there. So what I want some
• 12:21
Speaker 4: Girl Scout cookies? How can they do that if they
• 12:23
Speaker 4: if they don't have a Girl Scout that approaches them.
• 12:26
Speaker 7: So starting tomorrow, we will have a live link to
• 12:29
Speaker 7: our e commerce platform on the Girl Scouts of Black
• 12:32
Speaker 7: Diamond Council Facebook page. Make sure that you check that
• 12:35
Speaker 7: out so you can have cookie ship directly to your door.
• 12:39
Speaker 4: All right, it sounds good. I'm gonna talk to deligate
• 12:41
Speaker 4: Hollis Lewis and then the next segment here, so I'm
• 12:44
Speaker 4: about'm gonna put him on the spot before we talk politics.
• 12:46
Speaker 9: This is Joe L.
• 12:46
Speaker 4: Gates from the Girl Scouts. By the way, all right, Hollis,
• 12:49
Speaker 4: are you a Girl Scout cookie kund of?
• 12:50
Speaker 3: Yeah? You know, yeah, I am? All right?
• 12:54
  Speaker 4: What's your favorite?
• 12:54
Speaker 10: Do you have a like the mint? And I like
• 12:57
Speaker 10: the Samoa's So yeah, those are those are my two favorites.
• 13:02
  Speaker 3: All right?
• 13:03
Speaker 4: Well yeah, all right, so I offered you.
• 13:05
Speaker 3: One of them. No, no, not not for bread. I'm red.
• 13:09
Speaker 4: This is the new one, Hollis. This is the uh
• 13:11
Speaker 4: uh the explore moors. Okay, Rocky Road ice cream inspired
• 13:15
Speaker 4: cookies filled with the FLA didn't even get through the
• 13:17
Speaker 4: definition and you're already decided. Rocky Road ice cream inspired
• 13:22
Speaker 4: cookies filled with the flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted
• 13:25
  Speaker 4: all the cream.
• 13:25
Speaker 10: That sounds really good and with the thin mints, you
• 13:28
Speaker 10: gotta put them in the freezing Yes, we we.
• 13:31
Speaker 4: We were just talking about that about things that people
• 13:33
Speaker 4: do differently because somebody texted and said, with the dosi
• 13:37
Speaker 4: does put them in a microwave. I mean, I'm not
• 13:40
Speaker 4: a huge sweet seed, to be honest with you, but
• 13:42
Speaker 4: I do. I take it another level when it's something
• 13:44

Speaker 4: That's what's That's what the Joel was here to talk about. So,
• 17:46
Speaker 4: so you said you're a thin mets count.
• 17:47
  Speaker 10: I'm a thin Mints and I like the Samoa's now.
• 17:50
Speaker 10: I started a venture out a little bit. But the
• 17:51
Speaker 10: thin mints are you know, those classes, those are the
• 17:53
Speaker 10: ones I like the best.
• 17:55
Speaker 4: You have a good holiday season. I had a great
• 17:57
Speaker 4: sweet you have a good holiday.
• 17:58
Speaker 10: Six Yeah, you know, you know it's about the kids.

Speaker 10: So they had a good Christmas and all that. So
• 18:03
Speaker 10: it was it was really good. I needed at R
• 18:05
  Speaker 10: and R M.
• 18:07
Speaker 4: Well, everybody needs it, especially with what's coming up next week. Yes,
• 18:10
Speaker 4: the circus is back, and I say that in the
• 18:13
Speaker 4: best possible way, but other people have said that before.
• 18:15
Speaker 4: Before we get into talking about the upcoming session, I
• 18:18
Speaker 4: want to ask you, of course, the House seats are
• 18:20
Speaker 4: up every two years. Are you running for reelection?
• 18:22
Speaker 10: Yes, I am so. I will be starting campaigning surely
• 18:25
Speaker 10: after session ends. Ifout pre candidacy, I'll make it formal
• 18:29
Speaker 10: here in a couple of weeks and we'll get back
• 18:32
Speaker 10: to work. You'll see me at your door and knocking.
• 18:35
Speaker 4: So why should people give you another chance in the
• 18:37
  Speaker 4: House Office.
• 18:38
Speaker 10: I think what we've been able to accomplish thus far,
• 18:41
Speaker 10: even though we are smaller numbers, we have you know,
• 18:44
Speaker 10: stopped a lot of bad bills, and I think I've
• 18:46
Speaker 10: represented you know, the people on holistically, you know, those
• 18:49
Speaker 10: people who are working hard every day, working people, those
• 18:52
Speaker 10: people who have families, those people who want to you know,
• 18:55
Speaker 10: have a better life. And our focus on what we
• 18:57
Speaker 10: call kitchen table issues. Affordability, you know, utility rates, lower rents,
• 19:02
Speaker 10: being able to buy a home. Those are the foundational
• 19:05
Speaker 10: issues that most West Virginia's, most Americans are focused on,
• 19:08
  Speaker 10: and that's what I represent.
• 19:09
Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of interesting. It's going to lead
• 19:11
Speaker 4: me into a question, a couple of questions down from now.
• 19:13
Speaker 4: But to Speaker Handshaw had gathered some Republican delegates a
• 19:17
Speaker 4: couple of weeks ago before Christmas and stated that the
• 19:19
Speaker 4: primary focus was going to be on jobs, the economy,
• 19:22
Speaker 4: and that was the House speaking that's what you're a
• 19:26
Speaker 4: part of. Course, you was speaking to the Republicans, not
• 19:28
Speaker 4: so much on social issues. You're taking that.
• 19:30
Speaker 10: I mean, you know, obviously it's funny that there are
• 19:34
Speaker 10: focus on that right at the you know, our kitchen
• 19:37
Speaker 10: table tour, we did the whole state and that's what
• 19:39
Speaker 10: we were focused on, and that's what we've been focused
• 19:42
Speaker 10: on for the last several years, particularly in the House
• 19:44
Speaker 10: of Delegates, is focused on again, those foundational issues that
• 19:47
Speaker 10: most West Virginias care about, whether it's job it's job readiness,
• 19:51
Speaker 10: workforce development, economic issues, affordability overall. So again the devil's
• 19:57
Speaker 10: in the details. So we look forward to working Republicans
• 20:00
Speaker 10: if they are fo truly focused on issues that are
• 20:02
Speaker 10: important to West Virginia's.
• 20:04
Speaker 4: That word affordability is thrown out there. That's the key word,
• 20:07
Speaker 4: you know, the late twenty five, early twenty six and
• 20:10
Speaker 4: across America, you know, because there are issues out there
• 20:14
Speaker 4: and you can point blame, you can say it's this person,
• 20:16
Speaker 4: that person, this party, that party. Whatever bottom line is
• 20:19
Speaker 4: is that when groceries are so much more expensive than
• 20:21
Speaker 4: what they are, and yes, gas prices have gone down,
• 20:24
Speaker 4: and we all can appreciate that. However, when you go
• 20:28
Speaker 4: to your grocery store and everything is more expensive than
• 20:32
Speaker 4: what it was this time last year, Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, Hollis's,
• 20:36
Speaker 4: that causes people a lot of pause.
• 20:38
  Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
• 20:39
Speaker 10: And we can't price people out of the market in totality, right,
• 20:43
Speaker 10: because when we talk about affordability, it's not just your
• 20:46
Speaker 10: groceries while those are rising, it's your utility rates, it's
• 20:50
Speaker 10: your ability to go to senior kids to college. It
• 20:53
Speaker 10: is your ability to afford rent or buy a house.
• 20:56
Speaker 10: You know, we have to get back to a point
• 20:58
Speaker 10: where we hold not only government are accountable, but private
• 21:02
Speaker 10: industry accountable, and we cannot price people out the market
• 21:05
Speaker 10: or at the very least right these prices without raising wages.
• 21:09
Speaker 10: Those things don't go together. So we have to find
• 21:11
Speaker 10: creative solutions so that way people can just be afford
• 21:14
Speaker 10: to live and have a chance for ulability.
• 21:17
Speaker 4: What can what can the legislative body do about that?
• 21:21
  Speaker 3: Though?
• 21:21
Speaker 4: As a legislator, what can you do about that?
• 21:23
  Speaker 14: Well?
• 21:24
Speaker 10: I think we can again we can focus, like we've
• 21:28
Speaker 10: previously said, we can focus on job development. We can
• 21:30
Speaker 10: focus on you know, bringing industries, making it so where
• 21:33
Speaker 10: industries feel comfortable coming here, give you know, adequate tax
• 21:38
Speaker 10: breaks while you know, advocating that those industries hire locally,
• 21:42
Speaker 10: that those industries are going to be good actors. We
• 21:45
Speaker 10: can focus on things like PI, where you know, a
• 21:49
Speaker 10: large portion of West Virginia is under PI, whether you're
• 21:52
Speaker 10: working for the state or you have a family member
• 21:53
Speaker 10: who's working for the state and you're under their insurance.
• 21:55
Speaker 10: So we have to figure out a way to fund
• 21:57
  Speaker 10: that because it's steadily rising. I think there's a five
• 22:00
Speaker 10: percent raises coming and then potentially in a year or
• 22:03
Speaker 10: two it's going to be another fourteen to fifteen percent raise,
• 22:06
Speaker 10: So we have to find creative solutions. One thing we've
• 22:08
Speaker 10: talked about is, you know, legalizing adult used cannabis. We've
• 22:12
Speaker 10: seen other states like Ohio have billion dollars in taxable revenue,
• 22:16
Speaker 10: so that could be a pathway to you know, remedy
• 22:19
Speaker 10: some of those issues. In addition, you know, other issues
• 22:22
Speaker 10: that are more basic. You know, we have to figure
• 22:24
Speaker 10: out infrastructure, so our residents have clean water, we have
• 22:28
Speaker 10: you know, adequate internet service, so those individuals who wish
• 22:31
Speaker 10: to come to Western who move to West Virginia work remotely,
• 22:33
Speaker 10: will feel comfortable doing so. So I believe those are
• 22:37
Speaker 10: a lot of the things that we can do at
• 22:38
  Speaker 10: that level.
• 22:39
Speaker 4: I want to go back to cannabis for a moment.
• 22:41
Speaker 4: This is something that's been debated. Of course, West Virginia
• 22:43
Speaker 4: a couple of years ago legalized medical marijuana. That's still
• 22:46
Speaker 4: kind of a mess. You know, it's still not you
• 22:48
Speaker 4: know where, it's still not where where it should be.
• 22:51
Speaker 4: That's my opinion. But is there enough support for legalizing
• 22:57
Speaker 4: cannabis in West Virginia for recreational use for adults?
• 23:00
Speaker 10: I mean, again, it's one of the things we would
• 23:02
Speaker 10: like to see on the ballot. We've introduced several pieces
• 23:05
Speaker 10: and iterations of legislation, whether it be locally, you can
• 23:09
Speaker 10: at a county level, individuals in that county can vote
• 23:11
Speaker 10: on it. Right, we've seen were medical marijuana. There's thirty
• 23:16
Speaker 10: four million dollars just sitting around, setting around. Yeah, it
• 23:19
Speaker 10: could be used for something. Again, that's a drop in
• 23:21
Speaker 10: the bucket when it comes to an overall state budget,
• 23:23
Speaker 10: but it can be used for something, so we can
• 23:25
Speaker 10: generate that much revenue. And the thing about it is
• 23:28
Speaker 10: from a you know what did he say? The backyard brawl,
• 23:31
Speaker 10: the competitive spirit that we hope to implement. We're losing
• 23:35
Speaker 10: in that because we have individuals who, particularly on our
• 23:38
Speaker 10: border states, who are jumping across Ohio and you know,
• 23:41
Speaker 10: getting what they need over there, So why not just
• 23:44
Speaker 10: keep them home? So I think those are things that
• 23:46
Speaker 10: we could do and hopefully we can at least get
• 23:49
Speaker 10: in on the ballot to have the people voices heard.
• 23:54
Speaker 4: I'm going to throw this out there about the ballot
• 23:56
Speaker 4: issue when it comes to cannabis because I have a
• 23:57
Speaker 4: good friend of mine who to be this is just me, Hollis.
• 24:01
Speaker 4: I tend to be a little bit more libertarian in
• 24:03
  Speaker 4: my views. I don't do it myself, but I don't
• 24:07
Speaker 4: think that you can. If you want to do it,
• 24:08
Speaker 4: knock yourself out. So that that's just where I am
• 24:11
Speaker 4: on that. But I was talking to a good friend
• 24:14
Speaker 4: of mine who is very, very anti cannabis, and he
• 24:18
Speaker 4: said to me at one point during a conversation, he said,
• 24:21
Speaker 4: you can't always go putting things on the ballot, because
• 24:24
Speaker 4: let's go back one hundred fifty years ago, whatever the
• 24:27
Speaker 4: case may be, if we would have allowed people to
• 24:31
Speaker 4: put the if we'd have put things on the ballot
• 24:34
Speaker 4: for the public to vote on that at that particular point,
• 24:39
Speaker 4: may have voted for things that we didn't want in America.
• 24:42
Speaker 4: We were trying to rid ourselves. And so to that,
• 24:45
Speaker 4: you would say what I mean, I hope we've evolved
• 24:47
Speaker 4: as a country since then, but go ahead.
• 24:49
Speaker 10: I mean, some things are are more you know, fundamental
• 24:53
Speaker 10: and I think common sense, you know, some issues that
• 24:58
Speaker 10: we just need to rid ourselves of, you know, at
• 25:01
Speaker 10: the highest level possible. And again I want to say
• 25:03
Speaker 10: this before I go deep, is that you know, marijuana
• 25:06
Speaker 10: in itself, of adult use, cannabis, it's not going to
• 25:08
Speaker 10: be the answer to all problems, right it's just so.
• 25:12
  Speaker 4: I mean, that's what I hear a lot from a
• 25:13
Speaker 4: lot of the proponents of this. They say, if we
• 25:16
Speaker 4: legalize that, we are going to solve every day.
• 25:19
  Speaker 10: I don't agree with I don't agree with that, but
• 25:21
Speaker 10: it is a prong it is something that could help.
• 25:24
  Speaker 10: And myself, I'm not a consumer. It's not something I'm
• 25:27
Speaker 10: meant to But to each his own. But I think
• 25:29
Speaker 10: as far as on the ballot, I think because it's
• 25:33
Speaker 10: such a polarizing issue and our sort of plan and
• 25:40
Speaker 10: methodology in that it's just saying, hey, we want to
• 25:43
Speaker 10: give it a chance, so maybe let the people speak
• 25:45
Speaker 10: for that particular issue. And I think it's something that
• 25:48
Speaker 10: the people in those particular jurisdiction municipalities and counties, they
• 25:52
Speaker 10: can have their voice if it's not going to be
• 25:55
Speaker 10: done on a state level, which I think it should
• 25:56
Speaker 10: just be done on a state.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: Level, because I think, in my opinion, if you start
• 26:00
Speaker 4: doing by counties, I think you create all issues.
• 26:03
Speaker 10: And you're right, it is, it will create different issues.
• 26:07
Speaker 10: But we're just trying to throw out options to at
• 26:09
Speaker 10: least give it a chance.
• 26:11
Speaker 4: As a Democrat, and there's not a whole lot of
• 26:13
Speaker 4: you there you know, you know that that's simple numbers.
• 26:15
Speaker 4: There's not a whole lot of you there. How difficult
• 26:18
Speaker 4: is it for your voices to be heard? I mean,
• 26:20
Speaker 4: one thing I will say about the small number of Democrats,
• 26:22
Speaker 4: and you're going to you and others are going to
• 26:25
Speaker 4: your fellow Democrats are going to disagree on certain things,
• 26:27
Speaker 4: but by and large, you folks seem to be pretty
• 26:29
Speaker 4: much on the same page on most things. How difficult
• 26:31
Speaker 4: is it, though, when you have a wish list as
• 26:33
Speaker 4: you do and others do, to try to even have
• 26:36
Speaker 4: a chance of getting it through when the numbers are
• 26:38
  Speaker 4: so small.
• 26:39
Speaker 10: Yeah, but we walk in, you know, the legislative session
• 26:43
Speaker 10: realizing that, right, so we realize that a lot of
• 26:46
Speaker 10: the things and the bills that we draft may not
• 26:48
Speaker 10: see even committee. So a lot of what we do
• 26:51
Speaker 10: is defense. And I think what you've seen and what
• 26:53
Speaker 10: other people have seen around the state. You know, our voices,
• 26:56
Speaker 10: we try to make them as loud as possible, whether
• 26:58
Speaker 10: that's on the House floor or just any information through
• 27:01
Speaker 10: social media. So because we kind of know what we're
• 27:04
Speaker 10: walking into with, I think we've done a good job
• 27:06
Speaker 10: of making our voices heard, even though we may not
• 27:09
Speaker 10: be able to always get bills through. We've done a
• 27:11
Speaker 10: good job of stopping a couple of bad bills, particularly
• 27:14
  Speaker 10: last session.
• 27:15
Speaker 4: What was giving an example of one or two of
• 27:17
  Speaker 4: those in your.
• 27:18
Speaker 10: Certificate of need for example, they wanted to uh to
• 27:21
Speaker 10: to dissolve that. That's one of the things that we
• 27:24
Speaker 10: were able to quell. It's important, particularly in West Virginia,
• 27:28
Speaker 10: that we we felt that you have a process as
• 27:31
Speaker 10: far as opening up hospitals and different things of that nature.
• 27:34
Speaker 10: Uh So that's one of the things that we were
• 27:36
Speaker 10: and again until that point, just to give you a
• 27:39
Speaker 10: little bit of explanation, I think what happens is, well,
• 27:41
Speaker 10: people say, well, let's open up the market, right, and
• 27:43
Speaker 10: it makes sense that we just want to have a
• 27:45
Speaker 10: market and maybe we can have the best hospitals and
• 27:48
Speaker 10: emergency room different things come in. But the problem is
• 27:50
Speaker 10: that they're not going to Mingo County, they're not going
• 27:53
Speaker 10: to mcdalell County. They're just going to come to Charleston
• 27:55
Speaker 10: and flood the market. So the the method all in
• 28:00
Speaker 10: which they would use for you know, dissolving certificately, we
• 28:03
Speaker 10: felt was inadequate and we felt it was important to
• 28:06
Speaker 10: still have that because they're not going to come in
• 28:09
Speaker 10: and try to solve the problems that rule West Virginia needs.
• 28:12
Speaker 10: So we've been able to stop different things like that
• 28:13
Speaker 10: and the whole host of other things. So again, I
• 28:16
Speaker 10: think sometimes the biggest fight is fighting other Democrats. That
• 28:20
Speaker 10: seems to be yeah, you know, those who don't necessarily
• 28:25
Speaker 10: understand the process, those who are in a you know,
• 28:29
Speaker 10: leadership sort of on the back office that that you know,
• 28:35
Speaker 10: holding onto an old guard that don't understand that, hey,
• 28:37
Speaker 10: we need to move forward. This is about as far
• 28:39
Speaker 10: as on the Democrats, how we have to get people,
• 28:41
Speaker 10: We have to get candidates, and we have to help
• 28:44
Speaker 10: candidates get elected or at least give them a chance
• 28:46
Speaker 10: put them in the best opportunity. So again, so you know,
• 28:49
Speaker 10: being a Democrat is kind of tough on a lot
• 28:51
  Speaker 10: of levels here.
• 28:52
Speaker 4: Well, but I mean this time, you know, twenty years ago,
• 28:54
Speaker 4: we were saying being a Republican in West Virginia is
• 28:56
Speaker 4: difficult on many levels.
• 28:57
Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, but I think they've been done an
• 28:59
Speaker 10: excellent job of organizing themselves from the top to the bottom.
• 29:03
Speaker 10: They don't always agree, now that's not you know, crank
• 29:06
Speaker 10: paint fairy tales. They don't always agree with each other.
• 29:09
  Speaker 10: But I think they've all they've they've been able to
• 29:11
Speaker 10: get on one accord and at the very least support
• 29:14
Speaker 10: each other through the process.
• 29:16
Speaker 4: You know, I had a high ranking Democrat told me
• 29:20
Speaker 4: one time that the problem with the Democratic Party, and
• 29:24
Speaker 4: you could agree or disagree, hollis, is that we let
• 29:27
Speaker 4: other people define what we are. In other words, this
• 29:32
Speaker 4: person was saying, as a Democrat, we let Republicans come
• 29:36
Speaker 4: in and say, well, this is what a Democrat is,
• 29:38
Speaker 4: and that people have a tendency to listen as opposed
• 29:40
Speaker 4: to us telling our own story. That was said to
• 29:42
Speaker 4: me by a high ranking Democrat in West Virginia's to that,
• 29:45
  Speaker 4: you would.
• 29:45
Speaker 3: Say, I don't know if I would necessarily agree with that.
• 29:48
Speaker 10: I think what's happened is that, you know, Republicans, they
• 29:51
Speaker 10: know how to politic, Democrats know how to govern, and
• 29:55
Speaker 10: we know the politic part is what's going to get
• 29:58
Speaker 10: you in office. And I think what happens is is
• 30:00
Speaker 10: that too many times on our side we're too fragmented
• 30:04
Speaker 10: and we don't next again, we do not have to agree,
• 30:07
Speaker 10: but I think if we can get on one a
• 30:08
Speaker 10: court and agree on these principles as far as public
• 30:12
Speaker 10: facing together again, we could fight back door. We can
• 30:16
Speaker 10: go out and you know, non public facing in the
• 30:19
Speaker 10: back rooms and scrap it out, you know, and argue
• 30:21
Speaker 10: and do all those things. But far as publicly facing,
• 30:24
Speaker 10: I think it's important for us to all be together
• 30:27
Speaker 10: and to have one movement, and again for everybody to
• 30:30
Speaker 10: support our candidates, whether you're in office or trying to
• 30:34
Speaker 10: get in office. And I think, you know, as we
• 30:36
Speaker 10: get younger and we get new ideas, those things are happening.
• 30:40
  Speaker 9: You know.
• 30:42
Speaker 4: In talking not long ago, State Democratic Party chair Might
• 30:45
Speaker 4: Pushkin on the show, he talked about in these races
• 30:47
Speaker 4: around West Virginia wanting to have a Democrat on the
• 30:49
Speaker 4: ballot as much as possible, and sometimes with the numbers
• 30:51
Speaker 4: it's not impossible. Other than it's not possible, but that's
• 30:54
Speaker 4: what they wanted to do. If somebody were thinking about
• 30:57
Speaker 4: running for office in another area, but they say, well,
• 31:01
  Speaker 4: I'm a Democrat, I just don't know what kind of
• 31:03
Speaker 4: a chance I have. And maybe not the district that
• 31:05
Speaker 4: you are in necessarily, but maybe no. But I mean
• 31:09
Speaker 4: in a more rural area where where you know it's
• 31:12
Speaker 4: it tends to be more conservative. What would you say
• 31:15
Speaker 4: to them, I mean, what would you why, how would
• 31:17
  Speaker 4: you encourage them?
• 31:18
Speaker 10: I would say, let's take the motion out of it
• 31:22
Speaker 10: and let's look at the numbers. So I would say, like,
• 31:24
Speaker 10: if you're in a house race, you're going to have
• 31:25
Speaker 10: a district, you have a locale, and I would say,
• 31:28
Speaker 10: what are your preestincts? So if you got twenty precincts,
• 31:30
Speaker 10: 's say, let's look at the numbers. Let's look at
• 31:33
Speaker 10: the numbers as far as what it took to win
• 31:35
Speaker 10: those those particular precincts. What are your biggest preccincts? What
• 31:40
Speaker 10: are what is? What does the political makeup in that precinct?
• 31:43
Speaker 10: Look at the numbers, because sometimes we just get lost
• 31:46
Speaker 10: in Okay, it's red. We just see a red mark
• 31:49
Speaker 10: and then we just kind of turn our head. But
• 31:51
Speaker 10: sometimes if we dig into the numbers, we can figure
• 31:54
Speaker 10: out a pathology to win. Because you may not win
• 31:57
Speaker 10: all those districts, you may not win most of them,
• 31:59
Speaker 10: but if you possibly get some headway into the bigger
• 32:03
Speaker 10: districts that excuse me, bigger precincts, you may be able
• 32:06
Speaker 10: to have to have a chance in addition to do
• 32:09
Speaker 10: things like you know, get with political strategies, get with
• 32:13
Speaker 10: campaign managers, start talking to people, go to community events,
• 32:18
Speaker 10: see where you're at. That way, take the motion out
• 32:21
Speaker 10: of it a little bit, get more data driven, and
• 32:24
Speaker 10: then go from there.
• 32:25
Speaker 4: And it's also interesting to point out and if you
• 32:28
Speaker 4: read TJ. Meadow's commentary today and he's going to talk
• 32:30
Speaker 4: about it on Metro News midday, I also talk about
• 32:33
Speaker 4: on his own show, Hen Wilson Show coming up at
• 32:34
Speaker 4: ten o'clock. You know, the state Republican Party is going
• 32:36
Speaker 4: to meet this weekend in Charleston, and I don't know
• 32:38
Speaker 4: whether they're going to bring it up or not, but
• 32:40
Speaker 4: you know they made the decision within the last year
• 32:42
Speaker 4: or so to close their primary. And so if you're
• 32:45
Speaker 4: a registered independent, it used to be you could go
• 32:47
Speaker 4: in on the primary and say, I am a registered Independent,
• 32:50
  Speaker 4: but I want a Republican ballot or I want a
• 32:52
Speaker 4: Democrat ballot. Well, with the Republican you can't do that anymore.
• 32:56
Speaker 4: They closed their Democrats are still open them and so
• 32:59
Speaker 4: independence could ask. I'm not I'm not advocating people should
• 33:02
Speaker 4: do that or if they can, if they want, but
• 33:04
Speaker 4: I'm just saying that option so there because your primary
• 33:06
  Speaker 4: is still.
• 33:06
Speaker 10: Open, and that's and that's very true, and I think
• 33:08
Speaker 10: it's telling that you know, you would you would close
• 33:11
Speaker 10: it to that degree. I think it's you know, it's
• 33:14
Speaker 10: one of those things that you know, Democrats were open
• 33:18
Speaker 10: for all and we want to hear your voice, whether
• 33:20
Speaker 10: you're a Democrat or an independent, and it's telling that
• 33:24
Speaker 10: Republicans would close it. I think it's a little bit
• 33:26
Speaker 10: of fear of kind of you know, fear the independence
• 33:30
Speaker 10: and I and again, independence are a large section of
• 33:33
Speaker 10: the VOG getting larger and getting larger, and we need
• 33:36
Speaker 10: them to come out and I and as far as
• 33:38
Speaker 10: the Democrats out, we're telling you we want your participation,
• 33:41
Speaker 10: we welcome your voice.
• 33:44
Speaker 4: Before we let you go. A couple of days ago,
• 33:46
Speaker 4: the governor stated he wants to cut the state income tax.
• 33:48
Speaker 4: And over the last twenty four hours, delegate two Republicans
• 33:53
Speaker 4: and one Democrat have come on these very airways here
• 33:56
Speaker 4: and said that they seem to be a little bit
• 33:58
Speaker 4: skeptical or at least had questions about the math.
• 34:01
Speaker 3: Where are you on that same thing? I got questions
• 34:03
  Speaker 3: about the math.
• 34:04
Speaker 10: I was told a long time ago when it comes
• 34:07
Speaker 10: to you know, just and again this is a little
• 34:09
Speaker 10: bit of a false comparison, but when it comes to
• 34:11
Speaker 10: personal finance, you can't cut yourself to death. You can't cut, cut, cut,
• 34:15
Speaker 10: cut and not be able to live and have a life.
• 34:18
Speaker 10: So again, we have those taxes are going to pay
• 34:21
Speaker 10: for you know, state funded projects and employment and different
• 34:24
Speaker 10: things of that nature. So I am a little bit
• 34:26
Speaker 10: skeptical about how far we can cut without bringing any
• 34:30
Speaker 10: additional revenue in. Because we talk about cut, we talk
• 34:32
Speaker 10: about this, we talk about that, but what we're not
• 34:34
Speaker 10: talking about is what we're going to do to make
• 34:36
Speaker 10: up those gaps and fill those gaps. So I want
• 34:38
Speaker 10: to hear more from the governor, and I'm sure I
• 34:40
Speaker 10: will in the next few weeks.
• 34:42
Speaker 4: Tell a good Hollis Lewis. The session begins next Wednesday.
• 34:45

• 38:55
Speaker 4: And if you haven't had a chance to hear the commentary,
• 38:58
Speaker 4: if you didn't hear it on the radio or read
• 38:59
Speaker 4: it's on the website, I would say go ahead and
• 39:03
Speaker 4: check that out, because as Delicate Lewis and I were
• 39:06
Speaker 4: talking about, there have been two schools of thoughts on that.
• 39:08
Speaker 4: You know, a lot of the Republicans when they close
• 39:11
Speaker 4: the primary said basically, if you're a Republican, register as
• 39:13
Speaker 4: a Republican and it's a way too in some of
• 39:16
Speaker 4: their words to weed out some of what they call rhinos.
• 39:20
Speaker 4: Others have said that this is going to be really
• 39:22
Speaker 4: problematic if not at this election, if they don't reverse
• 39:25
Speaker 4: it by the next election twenty twenty eight. So anyway,
• 39:29
Speaker 4: TJ wiway in on that as he did on his commentary,

Speaker 4: couple of weeks off from the Canal Charleston Humaine Association
• 40:18
Speaker 4: with our Adopt Me Please Putter of the Week. Brian Hughes,
• 40:21
Speaker 4: meteorologist is going to join us. You may not see
• 40:23
Speaker 4: him on TV here in Charleston anymore, but he's still
• 40:26
Speaker 4: heavily involved in things in town, including the regatta, and
• 40:29
Speaker 4: Brian's going to join us to talk about that. Plus
• 40:32
Speaker 4: Greg Thomas will be on the show coming up on
• 40:34
Speaker 4: the local show on Friday as well. And that's for me.
• 40:36
Speaker 4: I am going to be a way tomorrow. As I've
• 40:39
Speaker 4: talked about on the show and on the social media,
• 40:42
Speaker 4: it's biopsy time. You know how they say it's Toyota
• 40:45
Speaker 4: than now it's Girl Scott Cookie season. It's also a
• 40:47
Speaker 4: biopsy time for you boy tomorrow. I should be back
• 40:51
Speaker 4: on Friday, and you know I've told the story with
• 40:56
Speaker 4: her check up. They were very alarmed by the PSA
• 40:59
Speaker 4: number that I had, and so I'm going to go
• 41:01
Speaker 4: try to get to get it, get it squared away.
• 41:04
Speaker 4: I'm I'm still trying to monetize this whole thing. I
• 41:08
Speaker 4: actually posted a video over on a Dave Allan radio
• 41:11
Speaker 4: over the weekend offering to sell adspace on my prostate
• 41:14
Speaker 4: and then to post it online. Actually I actually had takers,
• 41:19
  Speaker 4: I mean I was. I said it as a joke
• 41:21
Speaker 4: that when they do the biopsy and they give you
• 41:24
Speaker 4: the picture and whatever. I said it as a joke
• 41:27
Speaker 4: and a video Saturday night, I said a YouTube con
• 41:29
Speaker 4: sponsor Dave Violence price date, and I had of individuals,
• 41:35
Speaker 4: Honest to god, I'm not making this up offering me
• 41:38
Speaker 4: money if I would put their logo or the name
• 41:41
Speaker 4: photoshopped somehow on the picture of it to post it online.
• 41:47
Speaker 4: I said it as a joke, but if people are
• 41:50
Speaker 4: willing to pay me for it, you know my motto
• 41:53
Speaker 4: abs man always be selling. So we'll see. But on
• 41:58
Speaker 4: a serious note, I will let everyone know on social
• 42:00
Speaker 4: media tomorrow and on the show on Friday. How it
• 42:03
Speaker 4: goes should be back on Friday, and then we'll get
• 42:05
Speaker 4: a course of action. From there, Bigley Piggley Wiggly Hotline

• 42:32
Speaker 4: every day. Huntington Mall also very busy. Appreciate the text.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: The big difference though, in that is, and I said
• 42:40
Speaker 4: this on the shows yesterday, the model of a downtown
• 42:45
Speaker 4: mall like the Charlestontown Center is no more the Huntington Mall,
• 42:50
Speaker 4: the mall in Lexington, other malls I've visited, I'm sure
• 42:52
Speaker 4: you have as well in other states and other areas.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: You really can't compare it to what the town center is.
• 42:56
Speaker 4: Because the town center is located downtown. It's landlocked, so
• 43:00
Speaker 4: to speak. You can't build around it. One of the
• 43:02
Speaker 4: things that makes the huntingson Mall such a huge success,
• 43:05
Speaker 4: especially over the last couple of years. Is all the
• 43:06
Speaker 4: things around it, not just the mall itself, the tangared
• 43:10
Speaker 4: stations and the coals and you know Oli's and all
• 43:13
Speaker 4: the other places that are surrounding it. So I think
• 43:17
Speaker 4: we need to keep that in mind. We need to
• 43:18
Speaker 4: compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges. But I do
• 43:21
Speaker 4: appreciate the text Texas Dave is this question is probably
• 43:26
Speaker 4: not related to anything discussed today. I'm not from West Virginia,
• 43:29
Speaker 4: so it's confusing to me. Why do coal miners leave
• 43:32
Speaker 4: the coal sit on their faces when they leave the
• 43:33
Speaker 4: mines and go to places such as hospitals or sporting events.
• 43:37
Speaker 4: Do wipes not work? Are they not cleaning facility? Seems
• 43:40
Speaker 4: unsanitary and lazy. I appreciate your coal country perspective. Well,
• 43:44
Speaker 4: I am from coal country. Both my parents made their

Speaker 4: one is a purchasing agent. There are bath houses, but
• 43:53
Speaker 4: sometimes maybe they want to wear what they do with pride.
• 43:57
  Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't, I can't. I can't answer
• 44:01
Speaker 4: that question, tex says Dave. No cannabis proponents says cannabis
• 44:05
Speaker 4: will fix everything. The only people who say that are
• 44:07
Speaker 4: opponents of legalization, who say it to diminish its potential contributions.
• 44:12
Speaker 4: Whoever is running to get Shelley Kapado or Carol Miller
• 44:14
Speaker 4: needs to really pound the point that both of them
• 44:17
Speaker 4: stand in the way of cannabis rescheduling and legalization, which
• 44:20
Speaker 4: prohibits the state from accessing revenue created by medical cannabis.
• 44:24
Speaker 4: There's a lot of money remaining stagnant because of outdated ideologies,
• 44:29
Speaker 4: says a text. Tex says Democrats governed for eighty three
• 44:34

• 47:53
Speaker 4: it will never happen either. Well, I don't think that

Speaker 4: a lot of I mean, there are Look, there are
• 47:56
Speaker 4: those people that wake up every day and waken bake,
• 47:58
Speaker 4: as they say, there are those people wake up every
• 48:01
Speaker 4: day and grab a twinkie. You know, I'm just saying
• 48:05
Speaker 4: that the people that are proponents of legalizing cannabis don't
• 48:10
Speaker 4: necessarily fall into that category that waken bake. They just
• 48:15
Speaker 4: see the economic aspects of it or so on and
• 48:17
Speaker 4: so forth. So I appreciate the text Tex says, unless
• 48:20
Speaker 4: state Democrats distance themselves and announce the direction of leaders
• 48:23
Speaker 4: of the National Democrats the way it's going right now,
• 48:25
Speaker 4: with socialism spreading across the country, then you're never going
• 48:28
Speaker 4: to regain control here. Again, I agree, and I will
• 48:32
Speaker 4: say this as somebody who's worked on a number of campaigns,
• 48:35
Speaker 4: and if I do say so myself, it's got an
• 48:37
Speaker 4: actually pretty good track record prior to radio or prior
• 48:41
Speaker 4: to this show, anyway of working on campaigns, I can
• 48:45
Speaker 4: tell you that if you want to get elected as
• 48:47
Speaker 4: a Democrat in West Virginia, a good start. And they're
• 48:49
Speaker 4: never going to do this because they won't get any
• 48:52
Speaker 4: help for the national Party. The good way to start
• 48:55
Speaker 4: would be if you're running for I don't fill in
• 48:57
Speaker 4: office here. A good way to start would be to
• 49:00
Speaker 4: ounce to the National Democratic Party and what stands for

Speaker 4: the National Democratic Party. I don't care who the chair is.
• 49:05
Speaker 4: I'm telling you who the faces of the parties are,

• 49:18
Speaker 4: West Virginia with certain exceptions, I mean certain little pockets
• 49:21
Speaker 4: of West Virginia, Texas in regards to them all, how
• 49:25
Speaker 4: about solving another issue too by combining them McNary inside
• 49:29
Speaker 4: the mall, specifically for a new animal shelter. It's space,
• 49:31
Speaker 4: it's convenient, easily accessible. I would be all for that

• 49:39
Speaker 4: going to bring money in, and that's what it's all about.
• 49:41
Speaker 4: It's all about bringing money in. But I do it's
• 49:43
Speaker 4: a great idea if that goes along with something else Texas.
• 49:47
Speaker 4: I thought just this past year that the governor when
• 49:49
Speaker 4: he took office was talking big about how our financial
• 49:51
Speaker 4: situation the state was not so good and how he
• 49:54
Speaker 4: needed to fix it. Now he's talking about lowering the
• 49:56
Speaker 4: state income tax. We have no business lowering the tax,
• 50:00
Speaker 4: and so we have adequately funded the Department of Human
• 50:02

• 50:10

• 50:13
Speaker 4: hear me say weed is good for you, but sure
• 50:16
Speaker 4: as heck isn't any worse than alcohol, and its prohibition
• 50:19
Speaker 4: is discriminatory. One report estimated approximately one two hundred and
• 50:24
Speaker 4: forty three average annual alcohol related deaths in West Virginia.
• 50:28
Speaker 4: The alcohol involved death rate was fourteen point six per
• 50:31
Speaker 4: one hundred thousand people in twenty twenty one, slightly higher
• 50:34
Speaker 4: than the national average, while heroin accounted for only three
• 50:37
Speaker 4: percent of all drug overdose rates. Overdose death rather in
• 50:41
Speaker 4: twenty twenty one. And don't say fentanyl, because if you
• 50:43
Speaker 4: regulate weed better, the number of those over deaths overdose
• 50:46
Speaker 4: death will come down as as well. Well, I'll say this.
• 50:50
Speaker 4: You talk to any police officer and ask them which
• 50:53
Speaker 4: they would rather deal with, somebody who's been smoking weed
• 50:55
Speaker 4: or somebody who's been drinking. They're gonna say smoking weed
