- 1:57At Charleston City Council meeting last night, I'm gonna ge into that a little
- 2:00bit later on in the show. Kind of a wild scene there at Charleston
- 2:05City Council last night, and we'll talk about that comeing up. We'll have
- 2:07more on the LG announcement yesterday in Charleston. Cannot canicmmission. Bensulango will be
- 2:12in a little bit later on. Also, the new head of the West
- 2:15Virginia Manufacturers Association of the State, Bill Bissett, will be stopping by the
- 2:19studio as a well. But I want to welcome in now to the show
- 2:22candidate for West Virginia Secretary of State, Chris Warner. Good morning, sir,
- 2:24how are you. Good morning, Dave. Thank you for being here,
- 2:27sir. It's great to be here. Big announcement yesterday, or did
- 2:31you just mention the LG announcement. We're excited to have LG located in West
- 2:37Virginia. Now you are. We're going to get into your racial Secretary of
- 2:39State comeing up, but in your other job till that time, if you're
- 2:43lucky enough to win, and I want to get into your bio a little
- 2:46bit later on, but you were part of that announcement yesterday. Talk about
- 2:49that well. The West Virginia Economic Development Authority provided fifty four million dollars to
- 2:54match the seven hundred million dollars that LG is bringing into the state of West
- 3:00Virginia. You know, Governor Justice and Secretary Carmichael and our chairman Larry Pack
- 3:07worked very hard to bring LG to West Virginia along with President Gordon Gee and
- 3:12Brad Smith. So it was an exciting day. It looks like a lot
- 3:15of activity will occur in Morgantown and Huntington, and then the third phase will
- 3:21most likely be focused in the Eastern Panhandle. Yeah, and we don't know
- 3:24exactly all the details yet. I know those are going to be worked out
- 3:27to be announsets at a later time. But again, it's pretty exciting,
- 3:30pretty exciting time to be in West Virginia, Chris. From an economic standpoints,
- 3:36there's some big time things going on here in the state. Man.
- 3:38It's everything focused around healthcare and energy efficiency and artificial intelligence. So o'kay,
- 3:49real high paying jobs. One hundred and twenty five thousand dollars a year jobs
- 3:53two hundred and seventy five of those in the state within the first five years.
- 3:58That's that is certainly great new And again, all the tales we announced
- 4:00on that they'll be coming over the next year or so. All right,
- 4:03So let's get to you. You're a pretty well known guy around the state
- 4:08from the world of politics, and you've heard you've had a lot of different
- 4:10roles that you've done different things. I think just about everybody knows the name
- 4:15Chris Warner. But give us the quick bio on Chris Warner. Quick bio.
- 4:18I grew up here in the Kannall Valley Public School system. I are
- 4:21in the rank of Eagle Scout in high school. I'm married to my wife,
- 4:26Joyce. In fact, we just celebrated thirty five years last week.
- 4:30Congratulations. We have five kids. All five of kids have either attended or
- 4:36graduated from the Air Force Academy. Are there now. My youngest daughter is
- 4:42still there as an instructor pilot. Four of those kids still serving the Air
- 4:46Force ones an investment banking analysts down in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was
- 4:53elected county chairman for the Republican Party in Montgelia County. My talents were recognized
- 5:00and was then elected state chairman in the early two thousands for the Republican Party.
- 5:04So I served as state chair for five years and then was elected National
- 5:09Committeemen for the Republican Party and then was appointed by President Trump to serve as
- 5:16the State Director for Rural Development, and then so I served in the Trump
- 5:21administration and now I'm serving as the West Virginia Economic Development Authority Executive Director under
- 5:30Governor Justice. So with all these things, why do you now want to
- 5:32be Secretary of State? You know, Dave, I have. I've fought
- 5:38for Republican conservative values for over thirty years, and there's no way that I
- 5:43can sit by now and let a Republican and name only walk in and nact
- 5:49a woke agenda on the people of West Virginia and destroy our values and all
- 5:54of the hard work over the last thirty years. I mean, all those
- 5:57positions that I've served in have been volunteer positions, and it's all in an
- 6:01effort to be able to attract our kids back to West Virginia to live and
- 6:08work and play here. I'm gonna ask you to be a little unbiased here,
- 6:12Chris, since the current Secretary of State happens to be your brother.
- 6:15But the truth is, during his two terms of Secretary of State, the
- 6:19office under Macwarner has won various awards for renovations on the business side of things,
- 6:25as well as charities and elections. So the next Secretary of State,
- 6:28no matter who it is, he's going to have some pretty big, big
- 6:30shoes to film. Well, Dave, I know you worked in the Secretary
- 6:33of State's office. You helped make some of those things happen. We've you
- 6:39asked me to be unbiased, but I mean, I've heard Hoppy say it
- 6:43several times on his show, the great work that's been done by the Secretary
- 6:47of State's office. And I think we're all aware of the fact that Mac,
- 6:50working with the county clerks closely and the staff that has been assembled there,
- 6:57your good friends, you know, have removed four hundred thousand names from
- 7:01our voting roles that shouldn't have been there. And that's four hundred thousand chances
- 7:08of election fraud occurring. And so you know, it's been a tremendous job,
- 7:14big shoes to fill. But I think we're in the best position to
- 7:17do that of the candidate's running. And I had the current secretary on the
- 7:21show last week and he talked about the need for more poll workers in West
- 7:25Virginia. Are poll workers and I know, for my time in the office
- 7:28are getting up there in years. Many of them I've even told the story
- 7:31about one particular lady I talked to you down in Nicholas County that said,
- 7:35you know, I'd love to give this up. I enjoyed the civic duty
- 7:39this time for somebody else. Any plans on how what we can do to
- 7:42recruit more poll workers, well, I think some of the things that are
- 7:45already being done. You know. The most recent effort was to focus on
- 7:49veterans I know in past election. You know, those are people that took
- 7:54an oath to do a duty. And you know, when you're retired or
- 7:57leave the military, that doesn't mean that you're you're no longer committed. So
- 8:01I think that, you know, that was great. A couple of years
- 8:03ago it was you know, realtors. But you know, I can tell
- 8:07you things are a lot easier now than they were in the years past.
- 8:11I remember when you know, the county chairmen were responsible for turning those lists
- 8:16into the county clerk and trying to find Republican poll workers was extremely difficult when
- 8:22we were out numbered eight and nine to one. Yeah, I'm from southern
- 8:26West Virginia, man, I know all about it. I mean I know
- 8:28all about it. Yes you do, Yeah, what are some of the
- 8:31innovations, What are some things that you'd like to do in the secretaries if
- 8:33you're liked well. Number One, we we've got to be able to keep
- 8:37up with you know, being the equipment, the the updating that needs to
- 8:43be done with computer programs. You have to invest heavily to be able to
- 8:52keep up with the times. You know. One of the things that I've
- 8:54recognized, just because I've talked to and I've worked with the folks in the
- 9:00Secretary of State's office right now, there's an attitude that if you see something,
- 9:05say something on a report, for example, if you're in an election,
- 9:11I think we could probably be more aggressive and reassign two workers within that
- 9:16office to be auditors, if you will, not only on the business side
- 9:22for business reports being turned in, but election reports as well, and to
- 9:28look for the bad actors. Not just looking for a technical error like you
- 9:31might find right now if somebody in the public sees something on an opponent's election
- 9:37report, but by reassigning a couple of workers to workers to audit every line
- 9:45of every report coming in and then investigate and build a case if that's necessary.
- 9:50You're talking to Chris Warner again, who is Republican candidate for Secretary of
- 9:54staved Dave Alance showing five Any Life brought to you part by Meek's Realty Group
- 9:58as a locally owned real estate powerhouse. They specialize in residential and commercial properties.

- 10:16Chris's crowded field for Secretary of State. We have yourself. You have current
- 10:20Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood, former House Minority Leader in the head of HD
- 10:24Media, Doug scaff Delegate Chris Print, former legislator can read. And if
- 10:28fil Imperier's not even started yet, that's the people that have already announced.
- 10:31And I'm sure there'll be some folks on the day, at least one or
- 10:33two on the on the Democrat side as well. May see some more Republicans
- 10:37jump in. The names that are already out there, the ones that I
- 10:41mentioned. What makes Chris Warner the better candidate for Secretary of State. I
- 10:46think that I'm measured and tested in the toughest environments of the state and federal
- 10:52government. You know, we're out competing for economic development projects. I have
- 11:01provided visionary leadership for the West Virginia Republican Party starting back in two thousand,
- 11:09you know, when we challenged every legislative seat, and we've been able to
- 11:15take the majority in every measurable term. So we've got to remember, you
- 11:18know, in this Republican primary, it's really a nominating process for our party.
- 11:24You know, some states don't have elections, you know, they'll have
- 11:28conventions for this. And I don't think that there's anyone that has put in
- 11:33any more time for building the Republican Party than I have. Where can people
- 11:41learn more about your campaign? We have a website, Chris Warner WV on
- 11:48the web, Okay, trying to check it out there, and I'm sure
- 11:50you're all over social media as well. What's campaign strategy look like? I
- 11:54know you've already been out there a little bit, but as we get a
- 11:58little closer to the main primary, will be out there again. What are
- 12:01you telling noble when you go out there? Let me ask you what are
- 12:03you telling people and what are you, in turn hearing from people when you
- 12:07talk to them. You know what I hear from people is that they think
- 12:09that Doug scaff quite frankly, is going to be the one that pours the
- 12:15most amount of his personal wealth into this and that that's you know, that's
- 12:20who my opponent is. I wouldn't disagree with that. I don't have a
- 12:24thing negatively to say about any one of the other candidates. They're all good
- 12:30people. But you know, we can't have a guy that, just less
- 12:35than a year ago, as the Democrat Leader of the House, was the
- 12:39sole sponsor on same day voter registration. You know, someone that is you
- 12:46know, thinks that it's okay to bust a group of people across the border
- 12:50and register out of voting location and then vote and then leave that upon our
- 12:54county clerks to try to figure out whether those people are are citizens or not.
- 13:00So we will do what we have to do to raise the money necessary
- 13:05to compete against someone that will self fund their campaign. I mean, the
- 13:09final thirty seconds, why should somebody vote for Chris Warner for Secretary of State?
- 13:13You know, the most important thing we have Dave is citizens is our
- 13:16vote, and we can't sacrifice our principles because someone sees an easier path to
- 13:24get themselves elected and diminish the value of our vote. And again I've put
- 13:31in the time. I think I am in the best position to carry on.
- 13:35Quite frankly, what mac has started, the folks that worked in the
- 13:39Secretary of State's Office working closely with those fifty five county clerks and understanding that
- 13:46it's the county clerks that run their elections in each of those fifty five counties,
- 13:52and that we, as the Secretary of State's Office, will be there
- 13:56to support those county clerks. Chris Warner, Republican candid for Westerndinia Secretary of
- 14:01State. I appreciate you being on the show. Thanks a lot, best

- 16:36Salango here, Uh, tex says, ask Chris to defend Ruby Freeman and
- 16:41Shay Moss. They were the Georgia poll workers defamed with dangerous lives about election
- 16:45fraud? Does he stand for the truth. I don't know anybody in West
- 16:48Virginia has anything to do with what's happened in Georgia. Uh. I saw
- 16:53McCoy Warner holding a stop the steel sign of knowing any lie about stolen election?
- 16:56Should I say something? That's a Texter text says a friend told me
- 17:03the state workers get election day off historically so they can work the polls.
- 17:07I've worked the polls before, and my daughter has a few times now.
- 17:11Okay, tex says, I'll give you a better campaign. Pitch for Chris
- 17:18Warner. Vote for Chris Warner because he's alt right. Come on, Dave,
- 17:21you know this is true. Look, I have candidates on the show,
- 17:25and the only thing that I do is I just tell them to you
- 17:27know, just just tell us about your campaign, you know, and why
- 17:30it is that you would be better suited for that position than other people.
- 17:36Tex says, I wonder if Chris Warner has the same feelings as his brother.
- 17:38Does he also think the United States CIA conspired to cause Joe Biden to
- 17:42fraudulently win the presidential election. Texas served in the Trump administration. That's all
- 17:49I need to know for a no vote, says the Texter. Tex said,
- 17:52isn't it true that Chris Warner nearly bankrupted the West Virginia GOP and gave
- 17:56us the debts that has been carried the president? I like, I don't
- 18:00I don't know, I don't know. I don't know, Ben Selango,
- 18:06I'm not a candy commissioner is here all? Are you? Man? We
- 18:11nee some serious stuff a little bit later, but uh been can can we
- 18:15stop with all these people saying that Detroit was robbed in the NFL game the
- 18:18Cowboys last week? And now look you you nearly being as big a cowboy
- 18:23fan as I am. I say nearly because I got a couple of years
- 18:26on you age wise. Uh. Yes. It was a bad call,
- 18:30all right, that reporting you know, the incident at the end of the
- 18:33Cowboys Detroit game. But even worse call was to call on the previous series
- 18:37when the refs literally called tripping on the wrong team. It was Hutchinson for
- 18:42the Lions that did the tripping, not the Cowboys. They literally said the
- 18:48wrong team. So had that call been made right, Dallas takes the penalty
- 18:52yards, runs out the clock and in the words of my good friend Pastor
- 18:56Collins here, Pastor Marlon Collins, miss me with that. I don't it
- 19:00doesn't sound as familiar as good when I do it as what does Marlon k?
- 19:03You did the hand gestures there they people can't see that. Yeah,
- 19:06yeah, So I just had to get that off my chance. Well,
- 19:10there have been some really bad calls in the NFL this year, and several
- 19:12have influenced the outcome of the game. But let's be honest. Detroit had
- 19:15three chances from the three yard line. I mean, you can't if you
- 19:21can't get it in three chances, just give it up. Yeah, there
- 19:23you go home. I mean it should just actually this should have kicked the
- 19:26extra point right and taken it into overtime. Yeah, but hindsight's doing it.
- 19:30But I will say this, I do like Dan Campbell, their coach.
- 19:33I like him a lot. And and he's a former cowboy. He
- 19:36is a former cowboy. And they always played the statistics. They knew that.
- 19:38I think there was a if they had gone for two statistically that had
- 19:41a fifty percent chance of winning. If they kicked ast your point, they
- 19:44had a forty four percent chance winning. So they went with the higher odds
- 19:48and it just didn't work out three straight times, all right, all right,
- 19:52So I had I just had to get that off my chest with my
- 19:53fellow about there's eagles though. Yeah, oh yeah, sorry, you're gonna
- 20:00get a lot of text on it. Yeah yeah, war are you Jared
- 20:02Page on that? All right? So the opioid money, let's get serious
- 20:07now, A lot of it heading in. Been a lot of questions about
- 20:10the way it's coming in and what will be done with it. Take it
- 20:12from the top. Yeah, you know, I've got to give credit to
- 20:15Patrick Morsey, the Attorney General, and also promo material right right there.
- 20:19Ben Selango just gave credit to Patrick More. Yeah, somebody will run with
- 20:23it. Oh my gosh, he was praised by a Democrats. I'm kidding,
- 20:26right, don't do it. Yeah, no, he you know,
- 20:27this was a this was a it's a lot of money. It's it's very
- 20:30complex litigation, you know. It's so there's a lot going on, and
- 20:34then Auditor J. B. McCuskey has come in to make sure that everything
- 20:38is spent appropriately. And you know that if you look at the auditors checkbook,
- 20:42you can go through and look at every penny that Kanawha County spends just
- 20:45by going to his website. And so the important thing about this money and
- 20:49we received about two point nine one five million in the first check. We're
- 20:55supposed to get another check. I'm not sure how much it's going to be
- 20:57this year. But everything will be spent in a public form. We're going
- 21:00to it'll be properly noticed, they'll have a public vote. There's not going
- 21:03to be any backroom deals where any of this money goes somewhere that it shouldn't.
- 21:07And that's the importance of having, you know, oversight, not just
- 21:11for Kanawa County, but but all the counties and all the municipalities who are
- 21:15getting this opioid money. It's got to be spent appropriately. It has to
- 21:18be spent within the guidelines, just like the ARPA money, got to spend
- 21:22it within the guideline, has to be related to the opioid epidemic. Now,
- 21:26that is very broad in and of itself, because Kanawa County, although
- 21:30we've reduced our jail bill considerably, and a big shout out to Commission President
- 21:36camp Carper, who's been working on this for years to get our jail bill
- 21:38lowered, we still spend about a quarter of a million dollars per month on
- 21:42the jail bill. So a lot of that is opioid fueled, you know,
- 21:47drug fueled, and so we can use it for some of that.
- 21:49We can use it, you know, for future issues to try to prevent
- 21:52the opiodemic, or we can use it to reimburse taxpayer some of the money
- 21:56they spent combating this. But here's here's the issue. I mean, two
- 22:00point nine million dollars is a lot of money. We're going to get a
- 22:03lot of money over the next ten years. It's a drop in the bucket
- 22:06to what not just taxpayers, but but families have lost. Yeah, you
- 22:10know, everyone knows someone including you know, I mean family members who have
- 22:15had problems with the opioid epidemic. It has especially in southern West Virginia.
- 22:19You know, I grew up in Raleigh County. A lot of my friends
- 22:23were affected. And you know, it's a lot of money, but it's
- 22:26it's just a drop in the bucket. Can you know, compared to what
- 22:30West Virginia has actually lost. Okay, you can't put a you can't put
- 22:33a price tag on that. You really can't because it has devastated and decimated
- 22:37families. You look at what's going you know, happen in Mingo and Logan
- 22:41and some of those counties. McDowell, My goodness, Uh, it was.
- 22:45It was terrible and it uh you know, thankfully a couple of lawyers
- 22:49and a great reporter got involved and brought all this to light, and you
- 22:55know that's what led to this litigation. Talking with Kennalla County Commissioner Ben Selango
- 23:00here on the day Vallance showing five eighty live. You want to talk a
- 23:03little bit. You told me earlier about the AEP rate increase, the rate
- 23:08case settlement. Yeah, so what a great gig. This is so ap
- 23:14lost a little money back in twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two because the
- 23:18coal market and the oil gas market was higher than they anticipated. They made
- 23:23some bad decisions, you know, some bad purchases, some bad moves,
- 23:27and I think that maybe utility companies perhaps are the only companies in the world
- 23:33that can then go back and make up for those losses by charging rate payers
- 23:40and citizens additional money for their losses. So what they did was they lost
- 23:44about six hundred and fifty million dollars and they go in and they asked the
- 23:47Public Service Commission then to grant them current funds to make up for those losses.
- 23:53Can you imagine, you know, if can you imagine your advertisers if
- 23:57you say, if you sent them an en voice from twenty twenty one and
- 24:00say, you know what, our labor costs were a little higher than we
- 24:03expected. We need you to pay an extra you know, pick your numbers,
- 24:07people would lose theirm up. I'll tell you how that'll go over.
- 24:08There's a term it's just blank in a swimming pool, and I'll just leave
- 24:11it at that, but go ahead. Yeah, so that's exactly what they're
- 24:14doing. We've objected to it. We filed, you know, not just
- 24:18letters, we filed motions. We've intervened. Commission President Krper actually has testified
- 24:23in those proceedings to object to those increases. You know, the knaw count
- 24:30commissions. Funny. When I got on the Commission back in twenty seventeen,
- 24:33people did not understand the difference between the Public Service Commission and the County Commission,
- 24:37and so rates would go up and I would get emails saying, why
- 24:41in the world did you raise our rates? But I think now people are
- 24:44starting to understand, because we've objected so many times, and we've been public
- 24:48about it and opposed it so many times, that there is a difference between
- 24:52the Public Service Commission and the Kenawu County Commission. We don't set the rates.
- 24:56You know, the utility companies go in front of the PA Seed to
- 25:00ask for rate increases, whether it be for the losses that had in twenty
- 25:04twenty one, which boggles my mind, or perspectively they need vegetation clearance or
- 25:11you know, whatever it may be. Expansions. Some of those I can,
- 25:15you know, appreciate more than going back and trying to make up for
- 25:18losses, because I promise you one thing in twenty twenty one. In twenty
- 25:21twenty two, when they had their losses, they were still giving big bonuses
- 25:23to their CEOs. Yeah. Yeah, I mean that never fails to not
- 25:27happen. I mean that's always taken care of it sudden, suddenly, when
- 25:30it's time to calculate the bonus. It was a good year. But now
- 25:33you know, two years later after tex Cash you said, top of the
- 25:36segment, it's good work if you can get it. That's good work if
- 25:37you can get I got a text here for you. It goes back to
- 25:41the opioid industry. Text said, ask mister Selango. How many people in
- 25:44the opioid industry went to prison for all the deaths that they caused. Yeah,
- 25:48I'm not aware of any you know. I think there may have been
- 25:51one company, and I was not involved in this litigation, so I want
- 25:53to be clear about that. So I don't know the details the intertail you're
- 25:57speaking of, Count Commissioner. Yeah, I'm speaking And I did read Eric
- 26:00Ayir's book Twice Death in Mudlock, which was a great book, and that
- 26:04kind of that exposed a lot of it, and so I don't I'm not
- 26:08aware of anybody you know the dealers went to jail, the users went to
- 26:12jail, but as far as the actual executives, I'm not aware of anybody
- 26:18was prosecuted. I would agree with that. But Dave Allen showing five,
- 26:21any live is bright to you parted by Pinnacle Consultants, whether you're replacing a
- 26:23roof, remodeling in the kitchen or replaced in a bathroom. To keep it
- 26:26safe and keep it legal, get with Pinnacle Consultants. They can inspect your
- 26:30psyche, collect samples, perform lab analysis, and provide results within about a
- 26:33week, testing all renovations for mold, as bestos, and lead in West
- 26:37Virginia. As the law of is a Pinnacle Corp died net for Pinnacle Consultants
- 26:40because what you don't know can't hurt you. Commissioner Slango, let's do a
- 26:44little review of twenty twenty three and as I've done pretty much with all my
- 26:47guests so far this week, the year that was twenty twenty three, as
- 26:52it pertains to Kanawh County and the Canaan Kunty Commission, and what to expect
- 26:55from twenty twenty four. You know, there's a lot going on, so
- 26:57we've got obviously the Sports Complex, Capital Sports Complex, which is a big
- 27:03project. We have been working through ironing, through the sludging, through those
- 27:08details over the last year and a half. And you know, we've got
- 27:12the board in place. We have we've got memorandums out to solicit bids for
- 27:21banking. We've picked the architect, we've picked our consumer rep. We've done
- 27:25all of those things. So it is moving. You know, Connaw County
- 27:29has transferred five million dollars over. I believe the city's transferred some money over
- 27:33just to get it going. So there's a lot going on there. And
- 27:37that's just one thing. I mean we have. There's so many projects.
- 27:40And a commissioner Wheeler is working on this, the half of the McCoy trail
- 27:44out in the Tornado area. He he spearheaded that and he drove me out
- 27:49there on the Saturday and told me his vision and I was blown away.
- 27:53I kept thinking, why didn't I think of this? This is such a
- 27:57good idea. Why didn't I think of this? But he's doing it.
- 28:00And then your credit for the idea, I absolutely did not know. When
- 28:03I showed up when we announced the project, I gave him full credit.
- 28:07I said, I was I must have been asleep with the wheel because I
- 28:10did not see this one, but he did. I mean, and so,
- 28:14uh, you know that that kind of forward thinking and innovative thinking is
- 28:18exactly what we need in in Kanawa County. So yeah, that that project's
- 28:22moving forward. He's working very hard on it. So there's a lot going
- 28:26on. I mean, we've got you know, we'll be going down the
- 28:29PSC about every week or so and objecting to rate increases. We've got that,
- 28:33we've got some infrastructure projects that we're working on, some water and uh,
- 28:37some sewer and things like that. All Right, you got a text
- 28:40here going back to the opioid settlement. Ask mister Selango if it's okay that
- 28:44opioid settlements would allow the sacklers who created the problem to ev aid any further
- 28:48liability in prison. Thank you sort of spoken that earlier. We go ahead.
- 28:52Yeah, you know, I don't think that a civil settlement can avoid
- 28:56a criminal prosecution. And that's just a general legal principle. You can't say
- 29:03because you pay me money. Therefore, the federal government, for instance,
- 29:06can't penam me to testify in the oprial lid case of the OPIALD criminal cases.
- 29:11Now what it does what. Anytime you reach a civil settlement, there
- 29:14is a release that is signed that releases them of not just past but future
- 29:19liability, and so that that may be what they're talking about, but I
- 29:22don't think it in any way prevents the US Attorney's Office or not just West
- 29:29Virginia but elsewhere, to prosecute. I mean, if the evidence is there,
- 29:33they can prosecute. The problem is when you're dealing with criminal as opposed
- 29:37to civil, civil is more likely than not, right, it's preponderance of
- 29:40the evidence. Criminal is a much much higher burden, you know, beyond
- 29:44all reasonable doubt is a much higher burden. So they would have to show
- 29:48and I swear I've seen some of these emails that that I think shows it,
- 29:52But they would have to show beyond a reasonable doubt that they you know,
- 29:53that they intended to this, and that's that's it is. Uh Texas,
- 30:00please ask mister Solango. You're a popular guy today, Please say,
- 30:03mister Silango. Why is Kent Carpers advocating for Westernginian American Water to take over
- 30:07Union PSD, which would increase customers bills by two to three times. Well,
- 30:11I'm not sure that he is advocating. What we asked the Union PSD
- 30:15was to sit down with Western American Water and make a decision. And I
- 30:21you know, whatever they decide, they decide. But one thing that I've
- 30:22said, and I'm going to say again because I said it in public,
- 30:26Mendia, I'm saying on the radio. If Union PSD decides not to sell
- 30:29to Western American Water, that's certainly their choice. Just when things go wrong,
- 30:33and they're going to go wrong, don't come to the taxpayers and ask
- 30:37for money to bail you out. You know, there are a lot of
- 30:40infrastructure issues, There is a lot of debt, There are a lot of
- 30:42problems there, and I want to keep rates as low as possible, but
- 30:48you've got to do it right. And if you're neglecting your infrastructure, and
- 30:52if you have some catastrophic, catastrophic failure, don't come to the Commission Texas.
- 31:00Will mister Selango be switching parties to Republican as his wife did. Somebody
- 31:04asked me that yesterday and I told him, I don't foresee that in the
- 31:07near future. Okay, in the near future, well, I mean I
- 31:12can't tell you having twenty years from now. If the good Lord blessed me.
- 31:17I'm still around. Who knows I got before we let you go?
- 31:19Texas, says the Lions. Here we go. We started with football.
- 31:22We're gonna have the football. Two cowboy guys here, the Lions. Only
- 31:25to worry. The Cowboys won't let you down. What could go wrong will
- 31:29go wrong. The Cowboys are an accident waiting to happen. Sincerely, Stephen
- 31:32A. Smith. Apparently Stephen A. Smith listens to the show Who Knew?
- 31:37Yeah, you know that. I've had many broken hearts because the Cowboys.
- 31:40I remembered stinkly when Dwight Clark caught that touchdown pass and that comes on,
- 31:42Oh my gosh, I forget how old. Oh I mean, I
- 31:45was probably nine. Was that like eighty three January eighty two, so I
- 31:51was ninety And I've handed the San Francisco forty nine ers ever since, and
- 31:53I remember, I just remember how devastated I was. And I'm not sure
- 31:59it's got a lot better since you know, I'll tell you a quick story
- 32:00about that, because you'll appreciate this. No one else will but you will.
- 32:05I was, of course a kid growing up in Logan County at the
- 32:07time, in sixth grade when that game was played, and uh, there
- 32:09was our cable. Television was out at that point, and I was I
- 32:15did not see the catch, but I somehow on my little transistor radio found
- 32:19a broadcast of that game by standing on one leg and you know whatever,
- 32:23uh and uh and and so I didn't see it live, but I actually
- 32:28heard it on via my transistor radio because our cable was out there. We
- 32:32did we did not have cable. I was the guy that cable that was
- 32:36like three channels. Yeah, I was the guy that I would always have
- 32:38to climb up on the trailer and adjust the rabbit here so we would get
- 32:42signaled. I was also the guy that would crawl under the trailer with a
- 32:44hair dryer and thaw the pipes. I was that guy. So yeah,
- 32:49I remember watching that and uh just I mean I was just crushed. I
- 32:54mean nine year old. I mean I had my Dallas Cowboys lunchbox, I
- 32:58have my Dallas Cowboys jacket, and the forty nine ers broke my heart.
- 33:01So yeah, I'm not a forty nine Ers fan. Well here's what happens
- 33:04to Dallas. You know, we beat Washington this week. Yes, we'll
- 33:07probably get a home playoff game. We go on the road and we'll probably
- 33:12lose, but the home spring's eternal. This is the exactly right. Well,
- 33:16I don't sleep on Washington because you know, they've not had a great
- 33:20season, but their season they will consider it a winning season if they beat
- 33:23the Cowboys. Yeah, exactly, exactly right. All right, We do
- 33:27have one more question for you. All right. It says, could you
- 33:29ask commissioner if the county has studied the impact of the Paint Creek chemical spill
- 33:34on fish populations as part of their settlement, and is it healthy to eat
- 33:38trout there anymore? So we have so that settlement, by the way,
- 33:44all went into a separate fund, and we're going to use it for that
- 33:46watershed, I mean to stock restock fish. But my understanding is the chemical
- 33:52tests have come back good. Even though even today, if it rains,
- 33:55you still see bubbles in the water, you know. And that's what I
- 33:59kept asking in the trucking company. You know, there are no fish there.
- 34:02Do you see bubbles? And how can you say it's not contaminated?
- 34:05But I think it is doing a lot better now, and they've studied,
- 34:07I mean, we've had you know, as part of the litigation. We
- 34:10had them analyze the soil, the water, everything. Okay, so it's
- 34:15it's looking better. Is it one? What I eat a trout in there
- 34:19right now? I would not and I don't recommend that you do it,
- 34:21but at some point we're going to stock it and uh, you know it'll
- 34:23it'll be safe. If you need fish, maybe a safer bat, maybe
- 34:28tidewater or or or or Captain D's. At this point it might it might

- 37:49I understand this is your first media interview. You are getting the exclusive Dave,
- 37:54and I appreciate your interest and invite and go heard buddy. I haven't
- 37:59seen in a while, so yeah, happy new year. Come it in
- 38:00here. Rocking the herd gear always makes me happy. Big road win for
- 38:05the Marshall basketball team last night, no doubt. Yeah, I think there's
- 38:07a lot of excitement and excitement really all of you. Know when you look
- 38:10at w and Marshall, I mean I think we're you know, there's struggles,
- 38:14but at the same time, good things happen. What exactly does the
- 38:16West Virginia Manufacturers Association do Now? I know this is only like day three
- 38:21on the job for you, so you're still trying to find where the restroom
- 38:22is, But I mean, what exactly does this group do? You know,
- 38:25I've done similar work in the past for other state associations and chambers and
- 38:30you know all that, But really, I think at the end of the
- 38:32day, you try to provide a voice for people that do a specific thing,
- 38:36and in my case, it's manufacturers. It's large companies that make things
- 38:39that we depend upon, not only in West Virginia but nationwide, if not
- 38:43worldwide, and that to me is a very important thing. Not to get
- 38:46too preachy here, but I think we have disconnected ourselves from the means of
- 38:51production. You know, we think the electricity comes from the outlet in the
- 38:53wall. We think our food comes from the supermarket, and we think all
- 38:57these devices and things that make our lives great are just exist. It takes
- 39:00skill, it takes ability, it takes some investment to make all that happen.
- 39:04And what's really cool, Dave, is we're at a time in West
- 39:06Virginia, I think where great things are happening, and yesterday's announcement is just
- 39:09another example that, Yeah, exactly and this LG thing. I mean again,
- 39:14as I talked to my other two guests about, you know, we're
- 39:16we're still learning about what exactly it's it's going to be. But the bottom
- 39:21line is, anytime you start talking about people coming here or being here making
- 39:23six figures at it makes me happy. Well, you and I, You
- 39:28and I are in long in the tooth that we remember the day is when
- 39:30that didn't happen or those companies were leaving. Yeah, so it's a very
- 39:32different momentum. And the thing I always try to mind friends of mine,
- 39:36and you know, whether it's apple action, fatalism, or just our nature,
- 39:38we're so critical of everything. Well they didn't, they didn't explain really
- 39:43what's happened. Well, okay, slow down. This is the private sector.
- 39:46It's going to take deliberation, it's gonna take time, it's gonna take
- 39:49investment, and there's always a degree of risk. You know, it's not
- 39:52a there's not a large federal state government to backfill you if needed. A
- 39:55lot of times people are putting their harder and money on the line, so
- 39:59there is risk. But at the same time, when you look at new
- 40:00Core, you look at Berkshire hath where you look at for a Energy,
- 40:02you look at a lot of the developments and also existing employers that are expanding.
- 40:07It's really exciting. And I'll be honest, I was there yesterday.
- 40:08I thought it was a really cool event. You know, Governor Justice is
- 40:13going to put his own kind of messaging on things. But at the end
- 40:15of the day, boy, those those LG folks were all smiling and really
- 40:19felt welcomed to West Virginia. Did he really give the CEO of LG a
- 40:27photograph of baby dog wearing goggles? As I as I read online last night,
- 40:32Dave, I'm gonna be very specific in my response to that question.
- 40:36Yes he did. And you and I are jaded enough that we don't get
- 40:39it. But if you saw the smile on that guy and how excited he
- 40:44was, and how really kind of disappointed he was a baby dog wasn't there.
- 40:47You know, maybe we don't get it, but boy, in the
- 40:50outside world, it's sliced bread. Buddy, whatever it takes you get on
- 40:53the bus, man, I'm telling you got you got in this new gig.
- 40:55You got some pretty big shoes to fill. I mean, predecessor did
- 40:59it a kick butt job there, she did. Rebecca's been a friend since.
- 41:02Sub Member Rebecca McPhail, who's gone onto the American Chemistry Council has a
- 41:06much larger nationwide role now, has done excellent work. And I'm cognizant of
- 41:09that. Dave. I mean, you've got to realize, you know,
- 41:12you want to take it to the next level, It's gonna be tough because
- 41:14she did great work. I think she was a strong voice. We'll see
- 41:17how I do. I mean, I want to do well. I've known
- 41:20Rebecca since two thousand and two when we both worked at Marshall University. I
- 41:22mean, but she's very capable, and you know, I'll do my best.
- 41:25I got a lot to learn, but I like to learn. It's
- 41:28kind of a fun thing. I had a great run with Senator Capitol.
- 41:30It was an honor to work for her, and I think left on very
- 41:34good terms. And the guy who replaced me, you'll probably do a pretty
- 41:36good job. Yeah. Bill Bissett is with us right now from the Westernian

- 42:00The legislative session begins less than a week from the day. What are you
- 42:04going to be taking a look at there? Well, I think there's a
- 42:07lot of issues that affect employers that we've got to get serious about. You
- 42:09and are just talking right before we went on the air about workforce, and
- 42:13I know this is something we've talked about and talked about and questioning. It
- 42:15does very poorly in this If we're not in the bottom of the rankings,
- 42:19we're at the bottom. We have to improve that. We have to remove
- 42:22impediments to people working. And I think one of the main ways when you
- 42:24look at things like childcare, when you look at transportation, I know,
- 42:29people coming from recovery to work is another thing that's we've got to be better
- 42:32at that. And it's tough because you know, we're talking about how do
- 42:35we increase our population, which I'm all for, but we also have to
- 42:38create our increase. Are you know people that want to work and we're talking
- 42:43about people that could work that choose not to and you don't. You can't
- 42:45just make it punitive. You've got to talk to these folks and figure out
- 42:47what is preventing from you from doing what you and I do every day,
- 42:51which is get up and the hustle and all that. I was just talking
- 42:53to some other folks in the hallway about that. There's got to be ways
- 42:55we can do that. When you're talking about a single parent, you're talking
- 42:59about all all the things that make it difficult, a car breaking down,
- 43:01anything like that. We've got to find a way through, because I can
- 43:04tell you right now, every employer that I talked to with US Senator Shilly
- 43:07Moore Capito and now in the new rule manufacturers, that's all I'm hearing.
- 43:12I can't find the people I need to accomplish my mission. Yeah, and
- 43:15it's and it's a it's a problem, and it is continuing, and it
- 43:17doesn't matter people's I've heard people say, well, you know, you if
- 43:22you pay people living wage the work, granted, I get that, but
- 43:24we're talking about higher paying jobs to a lot of higher paying jobs that people
- 43:29are just choosing. I don't know if it's a gig economy. We're still
- 43:30trying to get out of COVID because of what our government did to basically destroy
- 43:35the country. Editorial comment on my part there not, mister Bissett. Uh,
- 43:38you know, and we've got to figure out, you know, how
- 43:40to get you know, to kick these people in the butt and say you've
- 43:44got to go to work. You cannot, you can't keep doing this.
- 43:46I don't know if you had doctor John Deskins from w On Your On Your
- 43:51Show ever, but he he is very intelligent on the issue of workforce development,
- 43:54not especially into how it affects every member of our society. If there's
- 44:00no age issue, there's no gender issue, it's universal in this why aren't
- 44:04people working? And he's really distilled it down to kind of give us a
- 44:07better understanding that. But we have to enact I think, policies that allow
- 44:10people to remove these boundaries. Yes, I mean to speak frankly, you
- 44:15could be dealing with people who just simply choose to sit on the couch and
- 44:19have a mailbox economy where the government sends them a check every a couple of
- 44:22months. That's an option. But if there's reasons why they can't do it,
- 44:27we, I think as a society have to figure that out because it's
- 44:29going to start harming our economic development, it's going to start helping our job
- 44:32retention here in the state. We have to find ways to help people succeed,
- 44:36and I think post secondary educations in there too. If you don't want
- 44:38to work. You're certainly not going to want to get up and learn things.
- 44:42You know, in a post high school world, if you even complete
- 44:44high school. We've got to do better on this front. And it's a
- 44:45real it's a real challenge, and I think it's a culture change for West
- 44:49Virginia. Bill. I know you're going to do a great job in your
- 44:51new role. Bill Bis at West Virginia Manufacturers Association. Congratulations man, Thanks

- 48:10in Charleston. All right, Charleston City Council last night. Many in the
- 48:15crowd had hoped council would issue a ceasefire resolution in the Israeli Hamas War.
- 48:21Well, that didn't happen. The resolution was table Jeff Jenkins's story post to
- 48:24wv metronews dot com. Councilman Joe Solomon was the one behind this. He
- 48:29is Jewish. Council one Becky separately made the motion to table the resolution,
- 48:35saying the city had already spoken on the issue with its recent letter. Now,
- 48:38that letter was sent on behalf of the city and Council by Mayor Amy
- 48:43Goodwin and was sent to the state's congressional delegation asking them to work toward peace
- 48:47in the region. Now you've probably by now twelve hours or so removed heard
- 48:52or seen the response to some of the more vocal members of the crowd.
- 48:57We've actually played some of it on the morning news this morning. They began
- 49:00chanting shame, shame, shame, and they wouldn't shut up. So the
- 49:05mayor had to call for decorum, which wasn't happening. So that ended up
- 49:08going into recess. And I'm told, I'm told now I wasn't there.
- 49:13Some members were removed from the council chambers and there was a rally held I
- 49:16believe the last two nights on the steps of the City Hall. And I
- 49:22guess I, like many others, have a hard time understanding the need for
- 49:28this or the initial letter either. Now it is a tragedy. What's going
- 49:30on over there, Make no mistake about it. No one's going to argue
- 49:34that. But I'm not sure that why it is we need the City of
- 49:39Charleston to send a meaningless letter. I mean, it's not like those in
- 49:45charge over there are going to take a look at a resolution from Charleston City
- 49:47Council and the mayor and say, oh wait, they're right, we're gonna
- 49:51We're gonna stop this now. As a side note, as I said,
- 49:54I did not attend the meeting last night, but I read our story and
- 50:00saw some of the TV coverage as well the accounts of the meeting. And
- 50:02I got a text this morning from a member of the Jewish community in Charleston,
- 50:08and he, speaking for himself, asked for this to be read.
- 50:14And that is is that his words. The majority of the Jewish community in
- 50:20Charleston was not represented at that meeting last night. And according to this person
- 50:25from the Jewish community, this was a quote, we do not support a
- 50:30resolution like this from city council. We do not think this is a municipal
- 50:35issue in quotes. The person also went on to say that the majority of
- 50:39people there last night were Muslim, not Jewish. And this person said that
- 50:45seventy five percent or so were Muslim and the others were, in his words,
- 50:49liberals who couldn't find Gaza on a map. That is, according to
- 50:53a text I got from a friend from the Jewish community here in Charleston.
- 50:59Side note, Mayor Goodwin will be on the show next Monday. Her monthly
- 51:02Mayor Monday segment had to be shifting around because of the holidays and so forth.
- 51:06But she is going to be on the show next week and we will

- 51:22All right, let me see Texas, Dave, I wasn't a big
- 51:25Biden fan, but I am now. With all these jobs coming to a
- 51:29state, couldn't be happier for our state. Let's go Biden, says a
- 51:32texture Texas says, destroy the economy. Huh, all time record, highest
- 51:37stock market, all time record, oil and gas production, lowest unemployment in
- 51:40fifty years, more job creation in thirty years, historic investment, in infrastructure,
- 51:45real wage growth for the first time in a while, and more jobs
- 51:47are available to everyone, says a texture. So so far, the so
- 51:54called smoking guns and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein names have been offering nothing.
- 52:00We already know. The former President Bill Clinton's name is on the list,
- 52:02as is Prince Andrew and the late Michael Jackson. I think I'm close
- 52:07with this. I think a lot of people who are wanting to use this
- 52:09Epstein list as a sort of a gotcha moments for their political rivals are going
- 52:14to be greatly disappointed. It seems from what I have read, it's a
- 52:16good mix of Republicans, Democrats, and celebrities. So if you're planning on
- 52:21that, aha, those demonic Democrats are uh huh, those perverted Republicans.
- 52:24I think there's a lot of names of all sides going to be on that
- 52:28list as it comes out. All Right, we gotta go. Ryan Nicholson's
