Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Unreal, my wife is awake and ordering things on Amazon. Hey, well, hi.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We're on the air. It's Cubby Christine, producer Kristen. Morning,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Light FM. I'm just.
- 0:08Speaker 2: How did you catch her, by the way?
- 0:10Speaker 1: Because she just texted me and said, thank you for
- 0:12Speaker 1: letting me know. I just bought it. Are you familiar
- 0:15Speaker 1: with Amazon doing invites? If there's a product that's in
- 0:19Speaker 1: demand and you can't purchase it right away, you can
- 0:23Speaker 1: be asked to be invited. Then they'll send you an
- 0:25Speaker 1: email when you can order it. It's almost like you're waiting...
- 0:29Speaker 1: behind the rope at a club. Yeah. And you're waiting
- 0:31Speaker 1: for the door guy to open up the rope and
- 0:34Speaker 1: let you go in the club.
- 0:35Speaker 2: But you better jump, right?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah. So she told me, my wife said, because I
- 0:38Speaker 1: get all the Amazon emails, even though she's on the
- 0:41Speaker 1: app ordering all the time, I get the emails.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Uh-oh, you know what's going on then.
- 0:44Speaker 1: What's coming, yeah, you know, you know. So I got
- 0:47Speaker 1: an email about five days ago and she said, look
- 0:49Speaker 1: out for this. It says, invitation requested and received. We
- 0:54Speaker 1: processed your request. We send invites to qualified customers regularly.
- 0:58Speaker 1: while supplies last. If you're invited to purchase, you have
- 1:02Speaker 1: an email with a link. It's valid for 72 hours. Now,
- 1:05Speaker 1: we're trying to buy these Neetos. If you have a kid,
- 1:08Speaker 1: you probably are aware of these. They're the hot thing
- 1:10Speaker 1: right now. It's basically just a squishy thing, but they're
- 1:13Speaker 1: all different kinds, Christy.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Almost like a stress ball.
- 1:16Speaker 1: That's all it is.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Kind of that, yeah, smushes and stretches.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I don't get it. It's no big deal in my opinion,
- 1:22Speaker 1: but all the kids love it. Naomi wants one. Miles
- 1:25Speaker 1: wants one. They have different colors, blah, blah, blah. So
- 1:28Speaker 1: a week ago, we got the invitation request received. That
- 1:32Speaker 1: was the email. And then at 4 a.m. this morning,
- 1:35Speaker 1: I got the email saying, congratulations, you're invited. You now
- 1:40Speaker 1: have 72 hours from the time this email was sent
- 1:43Speaker 1: to complete the purchase. Oh, wow. So I forward that
- 1:45Speaker 1: email to Coco, my wife, at like 5.20 this morning.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Thinking she'll see this when she gets up.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Correct. 5.35, I get a text. Good morning. Thank you. Ordered.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yay.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I thought she was sleeping until like right
- 2:00Speaker 1: about now, but apparently she was up.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I think maybe like when it comes to shopping, we
- 2:04Speaker 2: sense something's going on.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Is that what it is?
- 2:06Speaker 2: We wake up and we can do it. We can
- 2:08Speaker 2: do it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It's like an alarm. It's like a superpower that we have.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know how long Amazon's been doing this,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but I'm curious if you can text us at 44363.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I guess some things are just so in demand that
- 2:20Speaker 1: you can't get it at the moment. But hey, we'll
- 2:22Speaker 1: put you on the waiting list. And then you have
- 2:23Speaker 1: to be like, I was so fearful of missing this email.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Because she's like, keep an eye out for this email.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And I'm like, if I miss this email, I'm in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the doghouse.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I mean, there's clothing companies, right, where there's something I want.
- 2:35Speaker 2: And it's like, sold out, we'll let you know when
- 2:36Speaker 2: it comes in. And you get an email. But it
- 2:38Speaker 2: doesn't feel, it's not quite like that. It doesn't feel
- 2:41Speaker 2: as urgent.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 2:42Speaker 2: This feels like she had to move.
- 2:44Speaker 1: The only good thing is you do have 72 hours
- 2:46Speaker 1: from the time this email was sent, it says. But gosh,
- 2:49Speaker 1: if I miss this email, and then all of a
- 2:51Speaker 1: sudden on Monday- She's like, you should have gotten it
- 2:53Speaker 1: by now.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I kind of, oh, man.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, there it was. Crisis.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, he's good. You're good.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You're covered. Going into the weekend. Pretty good so far. Yes.
- 3:02Speaker 1: All right. Thanks for going well for me. How about you?
- 3:04Speaker 1: What are your big plans, Christine?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Well, I'm coming back tonight. Because you know me, I
- 3:07Speaker 2: can't get enough in New York City.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You're escaping New York and then coming back.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Coming back to New York. And it is for a
- 3:12Speaker 2: good reason. Because there's a new musical. It just opened
- 3:15Speaker 2: last night, actually. I'm going to go see it with
- 3:17Speaker 2: my friend Ann Sayre. And it was Duncan Sheik's. Probably
- 3:21Speaker 2: the last musical that he worked on.
- 3:23Speaker 1: No kidding.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen. It's got an amazing cast, Sofia
- 3:27Speaker 2: and Caruso. I'm trying to look at reviews right now.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think it's going to be wonderful.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, we all... Look, remember Duncan Sheik? His
- 3:35Speaker 1: big hit, Barely Breathing? And then you think, okay, here's
- 3:38Speaker 1: a one-hit wonder. What did he do after that? He
- 3:40Speaker 1: did a lot after.
- 3:41Speaker 2: A lot of, you know, Spring Awakening.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, he just did some incredibly beautiful work. And it
- 3:47Speaker 2: feels like everyone who knew him... Just really, really loved him.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Great things to say about him and his talent and
- 3:53Speaker 2: the person that he was. So I'm really, really glad
- 3:56Speaker 2: we were able to get tickets to this.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We'll get a full review on Monday from you. Okay.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Let's play Duncan Chic.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Go for it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Barely Breathing. We lost Duncan a few weeks ago. We'll
- 4:05Speaker 1: play that next on Light FM.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You ever broken your finger in the middle of a
- 4:14Speaker 1: pillow fight?
- 4:15Speaker 2: No, not quite.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm reading some comments on a friend of mine's Facebook page.
- 4:19Speaker 1: It's Light FM, Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen. And he posted,
- 4:22Speaker 1: what's the dumbest injury you've ever given yourself? And somebody
- 4:27Speaker 1: said they broke their finger during a pillow fight. And
- 4:29Speaker 1: I'm reading the comments and they are so funny.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Okay.
- 4:33Speaker 1: This one I can kind of relate to. It says,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I hiccup so hard I broke a rib. Two weeks later,
- 4:40Speaker 1: I sneezed so hard I broke another. Oh. I've done that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I have sneezed so hard where I thought a rib
- 4:46Speaker 1: was broken.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But it ended up being a muscle. But I thought
- 4:49Speaker 1: the pain was so bad.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I was like, it has to be a rib broken.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It ended up being just a really tight muscle. Everything
- 4:55Speaker 1: tightened up after that. I was holding my breath to
- 4:58Speaker 1: try to get rid of hiccups and passed out. Smashing
- 5:01Speaker 1: my head on the open dishwasher door. I pinched a
- 5:05Speaker 1: nerve scooping the litter box. Then laid on the floor
- 5:09Speaker 1: for two hours with my face six inches away from
- 5:12Speaker 1: the box until a roommate got home and held me up.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Oh, that's awful.
- 5:16Speaker 1: These are random comments. What's the dumbest injury you've ever
- 5:19Speaker 1: given yourself? Last winter, I went for a run and
- 5:22Speaker 1: I was so focused on looking for icy spots that
- 5:25Speaker 1: I slipped on a banana peel. I scratched my eyeball
- 5:29Speaker 1: putting on safety glasses.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh, ouch.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Once again, I sneezed and pulled my back out and
- 5:37Speaker 1: pooped my pants at the same time.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Hard to ask for help at that point.
- 5:41Speaker 1: What are you going to do there? So, I mean,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you have to have a story, Christine. I thought of
- 5:45Speaker 1: you as a litter box.
- 5:47Speaker 2: The door without banging into the frame do you know
- 5:50Speaker 2: what i mean like.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Crazy stuff like a couple years ago.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah i had sandals on.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And you banged your toe oh oh really.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Bad oh there was blood it was it was bad
- 5:59Speaker 2: i think the door kind of closed it started to
- 6:01Speaker 2: close it was like the one day i was wearing
- 6:04Speaker 2: open toe shoes too.
- 6:06Speaker 1: In the summertime oh i don't usually do.
- 6:07Speaker 2: That i've done so many goofy things cubby i'm thinking
- 6:10Speaker 2: like because one person said they broke their finger Pillow fight?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Having a pillow fight.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I was trying to squeeze out the last bit of
- 6:17Speaker 2: toothpaste from a tube. And I squeezed so hard, I
- 6:21Speaker 2: dislocated my thumb. Don't. It's not worth it. Just let
- 6:24Speaker 2: it go. Not worth it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: You were like, I know there's one more pinch.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Of toothpaste left.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, come on.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And then I was like, uh-oh. Now I can't bend
- 6:31Speaker 2: my thumb. But I did. I was able to go,
- 6:33Speaker 2: you know, kind of like get it back. But no,
- 6:35Speaker 2: not worth it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: That gives me the willies, by the way.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Honestly, like, can't walk down the street. I'm the person
- 6:41Speaker 2: who trips over stuff. Or over nothing. You know when
- 6:44Speaker 2: you just walk and you trip and you're like, why
- 6:47Speaker 2: did that even, what was that?
- 6:49Speaker 1: That's just lack of sleep, man. We need more sleep.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I put the headphones on sometimes and I go, like,
- 6:54Speaker 2: hit myself in the face rather than, they don't quite
- 6:56Speaker 2: make it to my ears.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You know, just, ow.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So it happens more than we think with you, especially.
- 7:03Speaker 2: On the daily, maybe hourly.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Well, give us a text at 44363. Tell us the
- 7:08Speaker 1: dumbest injury you've ever given yourself. And we'll read some
- 7:12Speaker 1: back in just a couple of minutes.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Well, if you're getting ready for the weekend, perhaps it
- 7:21Speaker 1: involves a night out, maybe a nice dinner.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Get ready to put things on layaway. Can you put
- 7:27Speaker 1: dinner on layaway? Right. Good Lord.
- 7:29Speaker 2: What are those like payment fees where you can pay
- 7:31Speaker 2: it off in four installments? Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the prices. Right. are just unreal.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's gotten crazy.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah. I know.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I did, like, last weekend, just kind of a simple
- 7:42Speaker 2: deli lunch, two sandwiches, one coffee, two glasses of water,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and by the time I put the tip in, it
- 7:49Speaker 2: was 75 bucks. That's Manhattan.
- 7:52Speaker 1: You know, at the airport over the weekend, we got
- 7:55Speaker 1: just a couple of breakfast sandwiches, two apple juices for
- 7:58Speaker 1: the kids, and a couple of coffees. Anyway, it ended
- 8:00Speaker 1: up being like $ 51 just for breakfast sandwiches. Right. I
- 8:05Speaker 1: happened to be on Twitter slash X last night and
- 8:08Speaker 1: the restaurant Ruth's Chris was trending.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we love that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And I love that. Yeah. I'm like, why is Ruth?
- 8:13Speaker 2: I mean, that's a treat for sure.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, why is it trending? And people are all
- 8:17Speaker 1: talking about this one person that posted a receipt and
- 8:20Speaker 1: the overall meal was three hundred and fifty nine dollars
- 8:23Speaker 1: for two people. And they were picking apart everything on
- 8:27Speaker 1: the receipt. Yeah. Like one filet mignon.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 1: $ 89. 95. Oh my goodness, really? I don't remember it being,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I remember it being maybe in the 40s.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say maybe like $ 49 or something.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Because you and I used to go there a lot, Christine.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Right, well, like I said, that would be like special occasion, right?
- 8:43Speaker 2: If we were celebrating or something.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Cream spinach, $ 18. 95. People were talking about,
- 8:50Speaker 1: are you kidding me? Cream spinach, $ 18.
- 8:51Speaker 2: 95? Yeah, because you can make it at home.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Crab cakes were $ 32. 95. Anyway. Wow. Everything is expensive.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Does it even show the liquor on there? I
- 8:59Speaker 2: wonder if they had drinks because I've got a story
- 9:02Speaker 2: this morning about wine when you go to a restaurant.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Oh, wait.
- 9:05Speaker 1: One Modelo draft, $ 15, and one red wine, $ 26. 95.
- 9:12Speaker 2: One glass of wine.
- 9:13Speaker 1: That's what it says.
- 9:14Speaker 2: See, this is, okay, that ties into this. It's from
- 9:17Speaker 2: Money Digest. They're doing a study about how much the
- 9:20Speaker 2: restaurants are marking up wine when we order dinner. 300%.
- 9:26Speaker 1: For the bottle of wine at the restaurant. The glass. Oh,
- 9:28Speaker 1: for the glass.
- 9:29Speaker 2: They are marking it up 300%. The bottles, yes, they're
- 9:33Speaker 2: marked up the same, but they said as crazy expensive
- 9:36Speaker 2: as the bottles are, it's even more costly to get
- 9:39Speaker 2: it by the glass.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That is unreal.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And they said there's like kind of no way around
- 9:44Speaker 2: it because if you bring your own bottle, they give
- 9:46Speaker 2: you a corkage fee.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Well, I've done that too. I went out.
- 9:51Speaker 2: It can't be as much though.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It was $ 75 for a cork theater. No. Yes. $ 75?
- 9:57Speaker 1: Back in spring when I had dinner with Sharon, our
- 10:00Speaker 1: old friend Sharon and Tom.
- 10:02Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It was $ 75 for the corking fee at the restaurant.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Can't you just like lean over and say, I can
- 10:08Speaker 2: do it. Thank you.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Pretty much.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Bring your own.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Bring your own opener. Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And your own glasses.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Look, if you can afford it, great. I don't know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I just feel like I'm so happy that we're not
- 10:17Speaker 1: in the dating world anymore because I couldn't take out
- 10:19Speaker 1: anybody anymore. It would really add up if you're going
- 10:22Speaker 1: out on a lot of dates. Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 2: But I mean, you know, like I said, I'm going
- 10:26Speaker 2: to the theater tonight. Ann and I want to go
- 10:28Speaker 2: get dinner before the show.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Well, it looks like Arby's. Yeah. Yeah. Is there an
- 10:32Speaker 1: Arby's now? No. I'm going to see if she wants.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Chick-fil-A or White Castle.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Everything's expensive, like even all the fast food chains.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I know everything has gone up, but wow. But yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 2: we always look at the drinks because we always wanted
- 10:45Speaker 2: to get like one fancy drink that you would. Never get,
- 10:48Speaker 2: you know, or be able to make at home.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And those, the fancy drinks are, you know, that could
- 10:53Speaker 2: be like $ 25.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Like a, like a Fufu Cosmo. Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Something, not a Cosmo, but yes.
- 11:00Speaker 1: You'd be a champagne person. I wonder how much a
- 11:02Speaker 1: glass of champagne is.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Oh, well, that's what I like to get.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Lean champagne.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I'm going to. Really pay attention tonight. I just know
- 11:08Speaker 2: that any time we order a drink, it gets really expensive.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yep, that's the way it is. Well, listen.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Well, happy weekend.
- 11:15Speaker 1: How do we be happy now?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Still go out. No, no, no. You don't need a
- 11:18Speaker 2: drink either. You like coffee. Oh, wow. No. Okay, don't
- 11:23Speaker 2: want to take that away from you.
- 11:24Speaker 1: What do you have coming up in the news?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Let's check out the headlines. Benjamin Moore has now named
- 11:29Speaker 2: their color of the year.
- 11:31Speaker 1: What color do you think it is? Give us a
- 11:33Speaker 1: text at 44363. More Cubby and Christine.
- 11:36Speaker 3: And the great music variety you expect. Next on Light FM.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Good morning, Cubby. And yes, we wake up to sad
- 11:42Speaker 2: news today. There was a school shooting in central Oregon yesterday.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Authorities say a teenage gunman opened fire at an elementary school.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Three children, one teacher have died. Officers responded to the
- 11:54Speaker 2: Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend around 1 o'clock. Police
- 11:58Speaker 2: say the 16-year-old gunman shot and killed by an armed bystander.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Two other people, a teacher and student, were injured. No
- 12:05Speaker 2: word on a possible motive. The new White House press secretary,
- 12:09Speaker 2: Katie Zakaria, is confirming she never did pass the bar exam.
- 12:13Speaker 2: She was being interviewed and said she took the California
- 12:16Speaker 2: bar exam in 2011 but failed. Earlier this week, the
- 12:20Speaker 2: Campaign for Accountability filed a complaint with the California State
- 12:23Speaker 2: Bar Association demanding a probe into Zacharias claims that she's
- 12:29Speaker 2: an attorney. The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series,
- 12:33Speaker 2: first time since 1982. So they swept the L.A.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Dodgers.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians are facing off against Tampa Bay.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Their series with the Guardians leading two games to one.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Pope Leo is said to be recovering well. after lung
- 12:47Speaker 2: cancer surgery. Doctors say x-rays show good healing and that
- 12:51Speaker 2: his recovery is progressing normally. A lung cancer expert in
- 12:55Speaker 2: Texas saying, it's remarkable that Pope Leo's lung cancer was
- 12:59Speaker 2: picked up early before it had spread. Because once again,
- 13:02Speaker 2: as we know firsthand, this usually isn't found, unfortunately, until
- 13:07Speaker 2: it's late stage. He wasn't he wasn't somebody who would
- 13:10Speaker 2: typically be screened because he wasn't a smoker.
- 13:12Speaker 1: That's, that's, that's amazing.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So yes.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And of course you've told your story and, uh, you know.
- 13:18Speaker 2: The same thing happened with me.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 13:20Speaker 2: If I weren't wheezing from asthma, I wouldn't have known.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And so they were able to get it early. So
- 13:25Speaker 2: that's why we're hoping, um, you know, for, uh, uh,
- 13:28Speaker 2: more screenings being available to people at an earlier age,
- 13:32Speaker 2: no matter whether you smoke or not, it, It doesn't
- 13:35Speaker 2: seem to matter.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And that's what blows me away about how many people
- 13:38Speaker 1: that are non-smokers it affects.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Right. We seem to be, unfortunately, seeing more of that
- 13:43Speaker 2: and don't exactly know why. In sports, the Devils beat
- 13:46Speaker 2: the Rangers 7-1. Islanders lost to the Senators 2-1. Last night,
- 13:51Speaker 2: Broncos defeated the Seahawks 17-14. This weekend, Jets play the
- 13:55Speaker 2: Patriots on Sunday. Giants play the Saints. And Benjamin Moore
- 13:59Speaker 2: has named their color of the year. Da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Oh.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Webster Green.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Webster Green.
- 14:07Speaker 2: The color of 2027. We've been seeing a lot of
- 14:09Speaker 2: green cubby, I've noticed. Company says it is a quintessential
- 14:14Speaker 2: green that can transcend styles and time periods.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And by the way, I've always noticed they always have
- 14:19Speaker 1: a fancy word before the color. They never just say green. Oh, no.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Or blue.
- 14:23Speaker 3: No.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Or red. It's something, something, something fancy.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Now they have to describe it for you.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Webster green.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Webster green.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 14:36Speaker 1: We have not read this anywhere, but we guarantee that.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Taylor Swift is celebrating something today.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Oh, I am sure she is.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And what is it?
- 14:44Speaker 2: It is Global Cat Day. Global Cat. A day to
- 14:47Speaker 2: celebrate all the fabulous felines in our lives.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Are you going to post a picture of your Archie?
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm looking for Archie right now.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Like, just deciding which one to go with, you know,
- 14:56Speaker 2: because it's an important day. And he's like our ambassador.
- 14:59Speaker 1: On Instagram, right? Instagram?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Oh, I'll put him on Instagram, yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 1: The Christine Nagy. What?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Thank you, Paul Cubby Bryant.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Give us a follow and thank you for that plug. Yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 1: one long name, Paul Cubby Bryant.
- 15:12Speaker 2: And producer Kristen.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Producer Kristen, available to be followed. And the Christine Nagy.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Thank you, sir.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Well, it's Friday. It's Flashback Friday. Do you know what
- 15:22Speaker 1: you were doing in October of 1989?
- 15:25Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm trying to think myself.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Probably getting a costume together.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 2: What would it have been, though?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Well, if you were going to the movies, you were
- 15:33Speaker 1: checking out Look Who's Talking. That was the big movie
- 15:36Speaker 1: at the box office in October of 1989. And this
- 15:40Speaker 1: week in 1989, the number one song in America was this.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Can you identify that? Title and artist. One more time.
- 15:50Speaker 1: If you get it right, what are they winning?
- 15:52Speaker 2: You win a pair of tickets to see Carly Rae Jepsen, Saturday,
- 15:55Speaker 2: May 15th at Madison Square Garden. Tickets are available now
- 15:58Speaker 2: at Ticketmaster.com. Or, of course, guess our song and give
- 16:01Speaker 2: us a call.
- 16:02Speaker 1: 1-800-222-1067. Our flashback track is.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Good luck.
- 16:09Speaker 3: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It's Flashback Friday on Light FM. A few moments ago,
- 16:16Speaker 1: we played a clip of a song from the 80s.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You have to identify it, title and artist. If you
- 16:22Speaker 1: missed it, here it is. Hi, Light FM. Do you
- 16:26Speaker 1: know the title and artist of that flashback track?
- 16:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna guess Janet Jackson, Miss You Much.
- 16:32Speaker 2: You got it!
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yes!
- 16:34Speaker 2: I love that song.
- 16:35Speaker 1: That was the first single... from Rhythm Nation 1814, and
- 16:37Speaker 1: it was the number one song in America this week
- 16:41Speaker 1: in 1989. Who are we talking to?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Selena from Jackson.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Okay, Selena from Jackson. Congratulations. We're going to see Carly
- 16:48Speaker 2: Rae Jepsen, and this is going to be in May, Saturday,
- 16:51Speaker 2: May 15th at Madison Square Garden.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That is awesome. Thank you so much, guys. Hold on
- 16:56Speaker 1: one second. Kristen will get your info, and let's flash
- 16:58Speaker 1: back to 89.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Janet.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Light FM.
- 17:03Speaker 3: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Hey, Christine, do you mind if I quiz you? Oh, okay.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Pop quiz.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Put you on the spot here?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Light FM, good morning. Happy Friday. Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen.
- 17:16Speaker 1: It's Flashback Friday, and a couple of songs ago, we
- 17:18Speaker 1: played Janet Jackson, Miss You Much, from October 1989. It's
- 17:23Speaker 1: a great song. It's a great song. It sounded great.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I got to thinking about 1989, and I looked up
- 17:28Speaker 1: the price of things. I want you to tell me
- 17:32Speaker 1: if you can guess the price of items. Oh, wow.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I know you're not going to get them exact, but
- 17:36Speaker 1: you can get kind of close. For example, so in 1989,
- 17:41Speaker 1: a $ 100 bill had the same purchasing power as roughly
- 17:44Speaker 1: $ 271 today. Oh. So that kind of gives you perspective.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You're going to be, you know, prices are multiplying by
- 17:52Speaker 1: about two and a half times. So I guess you
- 17:55Speaker 1: think about current prices today, what they were in 1989. Right.
- 17:59Speaker 1: So if you get within 10 cents of this, I'll
- 18:01Speaker 1: be impressed. How much was a gallon of regular gas
- 18:06Speaker 1: today in 1989? On October 16th, 1989, ding, ding, ding,
- 18:11Speaker 1: you pull up to the gas station. How much was
- 18:13Speaker 1: a gallon of regular gas?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Well, now I can't even use that math because the
- 18:16Speaker 2: gas is crazy right now. Was it like 99 cents
- 18:19Speaker 2: a gallon?
- 18:21Speaker 1: I'm going to give it to you. Between $ 1. 02 and $ 1. 12. Whoa, okay.
- 18:24Speaker 1: And some spots were in the 90 cent range. How
- 18:30Speaker 1: much do you think a dozen eggs was?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 18:33Speaker 1: October 1989, a dozen eggs.
- 18:35Speaker 2: 69 cents.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I almost gave it to you. 95 cents. Up to
- 18:42Speaker 1: a dollar. White bread. A pound of white bread. How
- 18:46Speaker 1: much do you think?
- 18:47Speaker 3: 1989.
- 18:47Speaker 1: 250.
- 18:47Speaker 3: 250.
- 18:48Speaker 1: No, actually, it was only 67 cents. Oh, wow.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It was 67 cents?
- 19:00Speaker 1: That's what it says.
- 19:01Speaker 2: You're paying like $ 8 for a loaf of bread now.
- 19:04Speaker 1: How much was a first class stamp at the post office?
- 19:08Speaker 1: You went in, you said, I want one stamp. It's
- 19:11Speaker 1: October 1989. How much were you paying?
- 19:14Speaker 2: 23 cents.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Wow. 25 cents.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Pretty good.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 19:20Speaker 1: All right, I got a couple more here.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 19:22Speaker 1: How much was a home? You're looking at a brand
- 19:26Speaker 1: new house. Now, I know. Whoa. There's an average.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You've got low and high, but average. The average cost
- 19:33Speaker 1: of a new home in 89.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Well, I don't even know where to begin.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I know it's tough. Because it could be a million.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It could be 50,000. Okay, 50,000.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I don't know, honestly.
- 19:45Speaker 1: All right, go higher than that. It's between $ 100, 000.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Like $ 100, 000? A little bit higher.
- 19:51Speaker 1: $ 120, 000? A little higher. $ 150, 000? Boom. There you go. Wow. $ 150, 000.
- 19:56Speaker 1: And finally... We wish, right?
- 19:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Kristen's like nodding her head.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I know.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Like, please.
- 20:02Speaker 1: What was the federal minimum wage? October 1989. I'm like... $ 3. 35.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Oh, my.
- 20:12Speaker 1: You looked that up.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I did not look it up. I did not look
- 20:16Speaker 2: it up.
- 20:16Speaker 1: You Googled that.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I did not, sir.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You hit it on the spot. Yeah. It was $ 3. 35
- 20:21Speaker 1: an hour. There you go. This week in 1989.
- 20:25Speaker 2: How many hours would we have to work to... Well,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I guess it wasn't bad because the bread was $ 0. 67.
- 20:30Speaker 2: And gas was $ 0.
- 20:32Speaker 1: 95. Wow. Yeah, it's pretty incredible how times have changed.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah, they have.
