- 0:04Speaker 1: NFL Power Rankings is a production of the NFL in
- 0:07Speaker 1: partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Nothing better than starting the show with a little bit
- 0:12Speaker 2: of news. Welcome to NFL Power Rankings. I'm Mike Iamm
- 0:15Speaker 2: joined by Eric at home. And the news that I'm
- 0:17Speaker 2: referring to Eric Robert Slind no longer the head coach
- 0:20Speaker 2: of the Jets. We'll do a deep dive on Gangreen
- 0:22Speaker 2: coming up in just a few minutes here. But I
- 0:25Speaker 2: got to imagine when there's a change like this, this
- 0:27Speaker 2: affects how you view a team for your rankings.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I mean I moved him down five spots this week,
- 0:33Speaker 4: so obviously the hit in London that they took had
- 0:36Speaker 4: an effect.
- 0:37Speaker 3: But we may have to see how this works out.
- 0:39Speaker 4: They're heading into this massive game against the Bills on
- 0:41Speaker 4: Monday night that takes on an even bigger meeting. Now
- 0:44Speaker 4: Jeff Oldbrook taking over, can he fix this issue inside?
- 0:47Speaker 4: Really the problems are on offense, so we'll have to
- 0:50Speaker 4: see we've got this. We've got some quarterback situations that
- 0:52Speaker 4: are worth monitoring around the league, so little seismic activity
- 0:56Speaker 4: could have all these rankings influx pretty quickly.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and once again we'll talk more about the Jets
- 1:01Speaker 2: coming up a little bit later here. On power rankings,
- 1:03Speaker 2: you mentioned the international game against the Vikings. No change
- 1:06Speaker 2: at the top of the number one spot. As we
- 1:08Speaker 2: get you teams one through eight, Yes, the Vikings sitting
- 1:11Speaker 2: in that top spot. No change there. The Kansas City
- 1:13Speaker 2: Chiefs victorious five and zero on the season, got it
- 1:16Speaker 2: done against the Saints on Monday Night football. The Lions idle.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So those are your top three teams. We saw the
- 1:22Speaker 2: Texans with the dramatic win over the Bills overcame two CJ.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Stroud turnovers. Therefore, the Ravens, what a big time game
- 1:30Speaker 2: against Cincinnati at five, the Commanders five weeks down, they're
- 1:33Speaker 2: four and one, exactly how we all thought it was
- 1:35Speaker 2: going to play out. And at seven it's the Bills
- 1:38Speaker 2: with Josh Allen nine of thirty pass attempts completed, which
- 1:42Speaker 2: is just an odd number. In the Packers, they're sitting
- 1:45Speaker 2: at number eight after dealing with the Rams, who are
- 1:48Speaker 2: in a free fall right now. But let's start with
- 1:50Speaker 2: the number one team here. Look, I think what we're
- 1:53Speaker 2: seeing defensively, I know all the talk is going to
- 1:55Speaker 2: be about Sam Darnold and rightfully so. But Eric, this
- 1:57Speaker 2: team's defense is real.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Absolutely, and I think that obviously staked in the lead
- 2:03Speaker 4: with the Van Ginkel pick six, were so not used
- 2:06Speaker 4: to seeing Aaron Rodgers make plays like that.
- 2:08Speaker 3: But credit the Brian Flores.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And that Vikings defense and Stefan Gilmour shut the door late.
- 2:14Speaker 4: You know, they had a few shaky moments in there,
- 2:16Speaker 4: but they held on and it was really a three
- 2:18Speaker 4: phase victory.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:19Speaker 4: The offense contributed a little, not as much from Sam
- 2:21Speaker 4: Donolds we've seen recently, but Will Riiker three field goals,
- 2:25Speaker 4: good special teams play overall, and the big plays on
- 2:28Speaker 4: defense really put them apart. You know, I can see
- 2:31Speaker 4: this debate with the Chiefs the Vikings, the two undefeated teams.
- 2:34Speaker 3: They're both at buy. It's not going to change this week.
- 2:36Speaker 4: But you know a lot of people out there wondering
- 2:38Speaker 4: who is the best team in this league, and it's tough.
- 2:41Speaker 4: You can see elements of each that make them appealing
- 2:44Speaker 4: and also the few weaknesses here and there.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Well, you know a week ago when you had the
- 2:48Speaker 2: Vikings sitting at number one and you dropped the Chiefs
- 2:50Speaker 2: to two, there was concerns about Rashid Rice and yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 2: you still have them as the number two team. I
- 2:55Speaker 2: actually thought, coming off of the Monday night postgame show
- 2:58Speaker 2: on NFL Network, I'd walk into the studio with you
- 3:00Speaker 2: today and thought there might be a flip flop because
- 3:02Speaker 2: there was a balance attack and that defense balled out
- 3:04Speaker 2: and once again another win as they stay perfect on
- 3:07Speaker 2: the season, and.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Another team with a great defense. I think that's going
- 3:10Speaker 4: to be the formula for both these teams. Yes, the
- 3:12Speaker 4: quarterback Patrick Mahomes can get it done. Yes, Travis Kelsey
- 3:15Speaker 4: turned back the clock, and you know had that pitch
- 3:18Speaker 4: play in nine catches. A good block or two as well,
- 3:20Speaker 4: But you look at this Brian Cook interception really kind
- 3:23Speaker 4: of set the tone.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Supposed to be a throwaway, but.
- 3:25Speaker 4: A nice play nonetheless, And you know took Chris o'
- 3:28Speaker 4: lobby out of the game, took Alvin Kamara out of
- 3:30Speaker 4: the game, knocked Derek Carr out of the game late
- 3:33Speaker 4: with an oblique injury. So you know that Chiefs defense
- 3:36Speaker 4: when the offense isn't perfect. Yes, they rang up a
- 3:39Speaker 4: lot of yards, but two for seven in the red
- 3:41Speaker 4: zone isn't really getting it done, at least not to
- 3:43Speaker 4: the chief standard.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Then the defense is going to take care of business.
- 3:47Speaker 4: So again another three phase operation here in Kansas City.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And that's a big reason why both of these teams,
- 3:53Speaker 4: the Vikings and the Chiefs are unbeaten head into their by.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and Kareem Hunt goes over one hundred yards didju
- 3:59Speaker 2: Smith Schuster balls out in a game where he's got
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think one hundred and thirty yards receiving. So once
- 4:03Speaker 2: again Kansas City, we could talk about injuries, the defense
- 4:06Speaker 2: balls out and it just feels like Andy Reid will
- 4:09Speaker 2: figure it out on the offensive side. Well, let's take
- 4:12Speaker 2: a look at future champions as we get the odds
- 4:15Speaker 2: to win the AFC South and the Houston Texans, like
- 4:17Speaker 2: they've been rolling, they are still the favorite. The Colts
- 4:19Speaker 2: trying to figure out things offensively, the Jacks finally got
- 4:23Speaker 2: a win, and then it's the Tennessee Titans. That's the
- 4:25Speaker 2: order according to FanDuel to win the AFC South. Meanwhile, Eric,
- 4:30Speaker 2: to me, I think this is a win when Houston
- 4:34Speaker 2: not only scores a victory, but they do it when
- 4:35Speaker 2: they don't play their best brand of football.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously it came to anyone to watch the end
- 4:40Speaker 4: of that game, saw how it came down to that
- 4:41Speaker 4: final possession for the Bills and what they decided to
- 4:44Speaker 4: do with the ball and not do with the ball,
- 4:46Speaker 4: which is maybe force some timeouts, run the football, et cetera.
- 4:49Speaker 4: So obviously it sort of became a toss up game.
- 4:52Speaker 4: The Texans looked like the better club early.
- 4:55Speaker 2: C J.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Stroud did have some mistakes laid the defense obviously, let
- 4:58Speaker 4: Josh Allen and that offense move it a little bit after,
- 5:00Speaker 4: you know, kind of stopping him most of the game.
- 5:02Speaker 4: But and I would like to see the Texans team
- 5:05Speaker 4: play better in second half. So being outscored right now
- 5:07Speaker 4: sixty seven to forty, you know, it's enough of a
- 5:11Speaker 4: number at this point in the season where you say, hey,
- 5:13Speaker 4: even if they start strong, I'd like to see four
- 5:15Speaker 4: quarters from them. They couldn't put a few other teams
- 5:17Speaker 4: away early in this season.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So yeah, they're quibbles. They're four and one. Obviously they've
- 5:21Speaker 3: beaten some good teams along the way, but.
- 5:23Speaker 4: This is something that's going to be a little bit
- 5:25Speaker 4: more of a test when they face a little stronger
- 5:27Speaker 4: competition on the level of what we saw against Buffalo.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Hey, I don't want to get too deep into the
- 5:31Speaker 2: Weeds on Buffalo, who you have as seventh, But you
- 5:33Speaker 2: concerned about that squad?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Sure?
- 5:36Speaker 4: No, I you know, obviously the last two games have
- 5:38Speaker 4: kind of undercut what we saw from about the second
- 5:40Speaker 4: quarter on and week one up to that point.
- 5:42Speaker 3: So yeah, we're constantly.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Re evaluating here at the Power Rankings Laboratory, doing.
- 5:47Speaker 3: What we can to balance the good, the bad, the otherwise.
- 5:50Speaker 4: And so look, last season we saw Josh Allen on
- 5:53Speaker 4: this offense go through some slumps.
- 5:55Speaker 3: This one may not be as prolonged. We'll see, but yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Anytime they go through one of these streaks, so they
- 6:00Speaker 4: make it a lot harder on themselves.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You have your worries.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Eric, I do game day review on
- 6:05Speaker 2: Sunday mornings. I sit with Steve Witch and Cynthia Freelan,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and we all picked the Ravens, who you have number
- 6:10Speaker 2: five as a winner against Cincinnati. It played out that way,
- 6:14Speaker 2: but I'd be lying up. I said, I wasn't hedge
- 6:15Speaker 2: in just a little bit because of the desperate situation
- 6:18Speaker 2: that the Bengals are in. I think the way the
- 6:20Speaker 2: Ravens won this game is a huge positive side. We
- 6:23Speaker 2: were questioning them, you know, kind of putting the hammer down.
- 6:26Speaker 2: They had to come back and win this game. They
- 6:28Speaker 2: had overcome you know, one of those moments that Lamar
- 6:30Speaker 2: Jackson I'm sure was cringing about and still probably thinking
- 6:32Speaker 2: about this is a good win for him.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Absolutely, you faced three different ten point deficits in the
- 6:38Speaker 4: second half of a game on the road, and look,
- 6:41Speaker 4: you can look at the Bengals record and write them
- 6:43Speaker 4: off if you want to, but clearly they are scoring
- 6:46Speaker 4: at a pretty high pace and throwing the football very well.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Did a lot for Sunday as well, and you know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: the Ravens found a way. It was great to see
- 6:53Speaker 4: Justin Tucker back in the long range kicking department, you know,
- 6:56Speaker 4: obviously a stalwart for many years, but had almost become
- 7:00Speaker 4: a liability beyond fifty yards going back to last season.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Big fifty six yard or to tie it the game
- 7:06Speaker 4: winner and overtime classic Ravens win too. You can't shut
- 7:09Speaker 4: Derek Henry down the whole game. He finally got one
- 7:12Speaker 4: there at the end. So impressive on a lot of fronts,
- 7:14Speaker 4: even with some hiccups along the way.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And by the way, I think you have the toughest
- 7:18Speaker 2: job in the building ranking some of these teams. I
- 7:21Speaker 2: will push back a little bit later on the show
- 7:23Speaker 2: and which you have Cincinnati because the angles to me,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I get why you dropped them where you did, but
- 7:27Speaker 2: I think they're better than a few of the teams
- 7:29Speaker 2: that you have in front of them. So we'll have
- 7:30Speaker 2: that conversation coming up in just a bit. The commander's
- 7:33Speaker 2: at six. Be honest with me, when you're assessing the
- 7:36Speaker 2: teams before the season, no way in hell you thought
- 7:38Speaker 2: they'd be anywhere close to the sixth overall ranking at
- 7:40Speaker 2: any point during the season, right.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I tried to.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Talk myself into them almost cracking the top twenty. I
- 7:46Speaker 4: had them around twenty two to twenty three, and I thought,
- 7:48Speaker 4: that's that's pushing it a little bit, right, So I
- 7:51Speaker 4: backed him off to twenty five or six or whatever
- 7:53Speaker 4: it was. And what was funny is that I had
- 7:55Speaker 4: Washington media members coming to me and say, hey, this
- 7:57Speaker 4: is the most positive review we've seen this whole year.
- 8:00Speaker 4: So I may not have been onto it, but I
- 8:03Speaker 4: was a little bit onto it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think, yeah, no, no, I will take it. You
- 8:06Speaker 2: point to Jaden Daniels as obviously the singular reason why
- 8:09Speaker 2: they're there. I mean, there's a culture shift right. I mean,
- 8:11Speaker 2: dan Quinn is there. Defense has played some pretty good
- 8:15Speaker 2: games down the stretch. I know all the attention goes
- 8:17Speaker 2: to Jaden, but it feels like more than just him.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Austin Eckler, Reborn, you know, Brian Robinson's showing some juice.
- 8:24Speaker 3: You know, the defense has been pretty good lot three
- 8:26Speaker 3: of the last four games.
- 8:27Speaker 4: So Daniels was a little off early, so everybody else
- 8:31Speaker 4: kind of held him up, and then he obviously delivered
- 8:33Speaker 4: late and ended up with three hundred twenty yards passing
- 8:35Speaker 4: and rushing combined.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So yeah, this is a dan Quinn special.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Adam Peters, the new GM, the new ownership as well.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It feels like.
- 8:42Speaker 4: A new dawn in a new day, and the roster
- 8:44Speaker 4: was almost completely overhauled in the offseason.
- 8:47Speaker 3: You're seeing the results of that.
- 8:48Speaker 4: I didn't think it would happen this quickly, but it's
- 8:50Speaker 4: been very impressive and hard not to tip your hat
- 8:53Speaker 4: at the change of direction.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you there one hundred percent. By the
- 8:56Speaker 2: way they beat the Browns, I'm stomping on the panic button.
- 8:59Speaker 2: We'll talk about Cleveland until you win your rank a
- 9:01Speaker 2: little bit later. But there's more to come here on
- 9:03Speaker 2: Power rank has had some late heroics from Captain Kirk.
- 9:06Speaker 2: What did that do to their rankings? For the Falcons
- 9:08Speaker 2: and what did the loss leave the Bucks The answers
- 9:09Speaker 2: come it up next on NFL Power Rankings. Back here
- 9:19Speaker 2: on Power Rankings, as we look at teams nine through sixteen,
- 9:23Speaker 2: and once again the full rankings. You can scan the
- 9:25Speaker 2: QR code if you're watching or if you're listening on
- 9:27Speaker 2: NFL dot com, you can head there. The Tampa Bay
- 9:30Speaker 2: Bucks sitting at number nine. A little surprised to see
- 9:32Speaker 2: them here. The Steelers, despite a loss at home to Dallas,
- 9:35Speaker 2: they are number ten. Eagles sit at eleven. The Falcons,
- 9:38Speaker 2: Captain Kirk and company now at twelve. We'll talk more
- 9:40Speaker 2: about them in just a moment. At thirteen, it's the
- 9:43Speaker 2: Cowboys and yeah, Dak delivered three hundred and fifty two
- 9:45Speaker 2: passing yards in a victory. Don't look now. Bo Nicks
- 9:49Speaker 2: fired up three straight wins and the Broncos are the
- 9:52Speaker 2: fourteenth ranked team. Two consecutive losses now for Seattle, who
- 9:56Speaker 2: dropped to fifteen, and the Saints at sixteen. Another loss
- 10:00Speaker 2: for them. It's three straight losses after losing in Kansas
- 10:03Speaker 2: City on Monday night. All right, the Bucks, Like, I
- 10:05Speaker 2: don't think this is easy trying to navigate some of
- 10:07Speaker 2: these rankings here. I'd ask you off air if you
- 10:10Speaker 2: thought about dropping them that side of the top ten,
- 10:12Speaker 2: But I don't know how you could have considering the
- 10:14Speaker 2: team sitting right behind them.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, look, you could easily put Pittsburgh there,
- 10:19Speaker 4: but then you know, are you moving them up right?
- 10:21Speaker 4: You know, obviously Atlanta gainst the big win, but I
- 10:23Speaker 4: already jumped in pretty significantly too.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I understand if you're.
- 10:26Speaker 4: A Falcons fan and mad that the Bucks are ahead
- 10:29Speaker 4: of them, but you know, for three and a half quarters,
- 10:31Speaker 4: they did outplay Atlanta, and so I.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Look at Baker Mayfield. Could they have finished better?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Absolutely, in the first half, things look really good. The
- 10:38Speaker 4: injuries have piled up, but they are going to get healthier.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I think some of these these injuries injured players will
- 10:43Speaker 4: be coming back soon. And thin get this game was
- 10:45Speaker 4: played again tomorrow on a neutral field. Tampa is the
- 10:47Speaker 4: better team, but you're right, it is so tough from
- 10:50Speaker 4: about nine to twenty two. I don't think there's a
- 10:53Speaker 4: giant separation mic between these teams.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you there. One hundred percent. By the way,
- 10:58Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Bucks already en route to New Orleans
- 11:01Speaker 2: for a matchup against the Saints. Keep in mind, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: I know we're having this conversation way too many times
- 11:07Speaker 2: here in a very short period of time. With the hurricane, yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 2: squarely in Tampa Bay's path right now. So thoughts and
- 11:13Speaker 2: prayers obviously to everyone in the state of Florida with
- 11:15Speaker 2: the hurricane that is fast approaching. And Eric, let's get
- 11:18Speaker 2: to power moves. Is the Falcons now move up seven
- 11:20Speaker 2: spots to twelve. Kirk Cousins balls out, and I got
- 11:24Speaker 2: to tell you, when these games are close, I have
- 11:26Speaker 2: a high degree of confidence that Kirk Cousins is going
- 11:29Speaker 2: to be able to deliver.
- 11:30Speaker 3: They do right, you know.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Obviously the Falcons have had plenty of mistakes along the
- 11:34Speaker 4: way this season, including Monday night, they had like six
- 11:36Speaker 4: penalties in the plus territory on offense. So you know,
- 11:40Speaker 4: even though this guy through for five hundred and nine yards,
- 11:43Speaker 4: he was getting a lot of things thrown in his
- 11:45Speaker 4: face that kept setting them back plays, call back long
- 11:49Speaker 4: downs and distances, and so it was very impressive to
- 11:52Speaker 4: see him work the ball around.
- 11:54Speaker 3: They got it to.
- 11:55Speaker 4: The tight end, they got it to the receiver, they
- 11:56Speaker 4: threw it to the running backs as well. Everyone stepped
- 11:59Speaker 4: up when they had to make a play, even if
- 12:01Speaker 4: there were some land mines along the way. I mean, look,
- 12:03Speaker 4: Atlanta's got to play better defense. I think they know
- 12:05Speaker 4: they probably got lucky in this one, but it was
- 12:08Speaker 4: a significant move up, mainly because of how they finished
- 12:12Speaker 4: and how a lot of the other teams and that
- 12:14Speaker 4: part of the last week's power rankings did, which is
- 12:16Speaker 4: not as well.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, look at the matra of this team is and
- 12:20Speaker 2: I think you hit the nail on the head. Got
- 12:21Speaker 2: to play some better defense here. But more specifically, this
- 12:23Speaker 2: is an offensive minded team. And as the week's unfold here,
- 12:26Speaker 2: and as Kirk is getting more and more reps with
- 12:28Speaker 2: some of these guys, this offense looks like it is rolling.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Another team that was a dramatic mover in the right
- 12:33Speaker 2: direction of four spots, the Dallas Cowboys. I'm almost at
- 12:36Speaker 2: the point where I'm rolling to say this, just play
- 12:38Speaker 2: all your games on the road here. They just look
- 12:40Speaker 2: like a better road team than they are home team.
- 12:43Speaker 4: That is true so far, right, And yet when they
- 12:46Speaker 4: were leading thirteen to ten, I was not sure the
- 12:48Speaker 4: Dallas Cowboys are going to win this game. Sure enough,
- 12:50Speaker 4: Pittsburgh gets the ball back that go down and score,
- 12:52Speaker 4: and I thought, that's that.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Okay. Give Mike McCarthy credit.
- 12:56Speaker 4: He takes a lot of guff from a lot of
- 12:57Speaker 4: different people, including Cowboys fans.
- 12:59Speaker 3: His last drive. The play calling there, I thought was spectacular.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Obviously Brian Schottenhammer a big part of that as well,
- 13:05Speaker 4: but kept the Steelers off balance. Second big drive of
- 13:08Speaker 4: the fourth quarter.
- 13:09Speaker 3: They had to have it.
- 13:10Speaker 4: This played a lipkey right here was absolutely huge for them.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Things got a little dicey there at the end. Almost
- 13:16Speaker 4: coughed it up on this ball right there with an
- 13:18Speaker 4: amazing fumble punch out by Land and Roberts, but Dak
- 13:21Speaker 4: falls on it. Fourth down, a little mesh concept. Just
- 13:23Speaker 4: throw it open and that is a great play to
- 13:26Speaker 4: earn your third victor.
- 13:27Speaker 3: The season.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Never easy for the Cowboys, right They certainly have their
- 13:30Speaker 4: their way of making the degree of difficulty higher. But
- 13:34Speaker 4: they pulled it out and they had to well after midnight.
- 13:37Speaker 4: A lot of us were feeling it the next day,
- 13:39Speaker 4: but the Cowboys had to feel pretty good.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah. West Coast best coast when it comes to watching games.
- 13:42Speaker 2: When they are. I gotta tell you it wasn't too late.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Just one other note here from a Dallas perspective. Two
- 13:48Speaker 2: drives in the fourth quarter of at least fifteen plays,
- 13:50Speaker 2: So fifteen play drive and a sixteen place.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Wow.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That is big boy football from the Dallas Cowboys. It's
- 13:55Speaker 2: a reason why they moved up those four spots Broncos.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I gotta tell you this is looking better than I thought.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I love the exchange that we saw on the sideline.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Bodies get a little fired up with a coach. I'll
- 14:05Speaker 2: take that after you pick up another victory.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Felt a little different than the chats between Peyton and
- 14:12Speaker 4: Russell Wilson last year.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Didn't it right? And this is a rookie now.
- 14:15Speaker 4: He's played a lot of college football two different programs,
- 14:17Speaker 4: won a lot of games and all that. But when
- 14:19Speaker 4: you step into the NFL in your fifth game, you're
- 14:21Speaker 4: not afraid to go toe to toe with Sean Payton,
- 14:23Speaker 4: who can be a tough guy to deal with sometimes
- 14:26Speaker 4: very demanding.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Shows me a lot right.
- 14:28Speaker 4: He didn't have a pristine game Sunday, but I thought
- 14:30Speaker 4: he played pretty well. And I suspect Peyton's given a
- 14:33Speaker 4: little tough love here and when you have a defense
- 14:35Speaker 4: that can do what the Broncos have done. Patzertan had
- 14:38Speaker 4: a great game, ran back the interception one hundred yards,
- 14:41Speaker 4: kind of got the ball rolling a little after a
- 14:43Speaker 4: slow start. This is a good football team too. We
- 14:45Speaker 4: talked about teams like the Chiefs and the Vikings at
- 14:48Speaker 4: the top.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Broncos kind of have a similar, similar formula.
- 14:51Speaker 4: You know, decent offense, very good defense, special teams are
- 14:55Speaker 4: pretty solid as well. So there's a formula there that
- 14:58Speaker 4: could get them much higher on this list.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah. You know the Peyton in the press conference was
- 15:02Speaker 2: obviously asked about the exchange because you have to ask,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and he said that, you know, Boat's got a little
- 15:06Speaker 2: first Bueller in him and he's trying to get that
- 15:08Speaker 2: out of him. I gotta be honest with you, I
- 15:10Speaker 2: think I know what that means. I'm not one hundred
- 15:12Speaker 2: percent sure, but the point is when they're on the
- 15:14Speaker 2: sideline and Bo's fired up, I do legitimately love it.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I don't think there was disrespect that was there. It's like, hey,
- 15:19Speaker 2: I'm getting confident here because I don't think Bo does
- 15:21Speaker 2: that in Week one or in the preseason. I think
- 15:23Speaker 2: he's now starting to feel himself in a very good way.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And the Broncos this is paying dividends for them. Still
- 15:29Speaker 2: more to come here to Bill on NFL Power Rankings.
- 15:31Speaker 2: There's two teams that they got to be hitting the
- 15:32Speaker 2: panic button, the Niners and the Bengals. Where did they
- 15:35Speaker 2: sit in the rankings? The answer is covered up next
- 15:45Speaker 2: back here on NFL Power Rankings presented by Energizer, Team
- 15:49Speaker 2: seventeen through twenty four. For Eric at number seventeen, Caleb
- 15:53Speaker 2: Williams Arrow pointing up on this bear squad at eighteen,
- 15:56Speaker 2: The Niners, Yeah, I'm a little concerned on this squad
- 15:59Speaker 2: Sitting at nineteen, it's the Chargers. The Jets are at
- 16:02Speaker 2: twenty three. Interceptions for Aaron Rodgers means Robert Salad is
- 16:05Speaker 2: no longer the head football coach. We'll talk more about
- 16:08Speaker 2: Gangreen in just a moment. The Colts, it is going
- 16:10Speaker 2: to be Anthony Richardson when he's healthy enough to play.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Not Joe Flacco, but Joe. The offense kind of looks
- 16:15Speaker 2: better with him. They fall short against the Jacks at
- 16:17Speaker 2: twenty two. The Cardinals second half shutout against the Niners.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Hello Arizona. Twenty three, it's the g men, no neighbors,
- 16:23Speaker 2: no singletary, no problem. And at twenty four the Bengals.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I know it's a loss, but damn Eric got I'm
- 16:29Speaker 2: sitting at twenty four. We'll circle up on Cincinnati in
- 16:32Speaker 2: just a moment. But the Bears, I got to tell
- 16:34Speaker 2: you there was concerns about Kleb Williams. Jadon Daniels is
- 16:36Speaker 2: balling out. This dude is playing efficient football at the
- 16:40Speaker 2: quarterback spot. They figured it out away. Got to run
- 16:42Speaker 2: this football, and right now I think the Bears are
- 16:44Speaker 2: starting to become a little bit more of a threat.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Still got to.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Work on those opening drives. Those haven't really hummed yet
- 16:50Speaker 4: this season. But after a pretty bad opening drive, almost
- 16:52Speaker 4: threw a pick six, he really looks settled in. He
- 16:55Speaker 4: didn't look panicky or jittered or frustrated what was happening
- 16:58Speaker 4: on the field. It was much better body language, if
- 17:01Speaker 4: you buy into that stuff, than I think we'd seen before.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And much better physical execution here a great throw to
- 17:07Speaker 4: a wide open DJ Moore found his receivers, didn't force
- 17:11Speaker 4: the ball to I mean, when the shots were there,
- 17:13Speaker 4: he took them in much.
- 17:14Speaker 3: More accurate downfield.
- 17:15Speaker 4: You add that to that a Bears defense that I
- 17:18Speaker 4: think is pretty darn good. Now, look all this happened
- 17:21Speaker 4: against Carolina. Their defense isn't so hot right now, but
- 17:25Speaker 4: we've seen obviously what this Bears defense can do to
- 17:28Speaker 4: make up for when the offense was struggling. Now that
- 17:30Speaker 4: Williams has settled in, I like them much better as
- 17:33Speaker 4: a team. He's gonna have his bad games too, but
- 17:36Speaker 4: hard not to be encouraged by. I would say the
- 17:39Speaker 4: last seven quarters, going back to the Rams game, where
- 17:41Speaker 4: he's looked a lot more complete of a quarterback and
- 17:45Speaker 4: less frantic.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Well, they get the Jags in London, a Jags team
- 17:49Speaker 2: that finally figured out a way to get a win.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Nine thirty Eastern Time, exclusively on NFL Network at eighteen.
- 17:56Speaker 2: It's the San Francisco forty nine ers. I got to
- 17:58Speaker 2: tell you, I can story some of the losses. For me.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Sometimes it's just the health of these guys out there.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't know what the deal is. I'm actually legitimately
- 18:07Speaker 2: worried about the Niners.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there was a little bit of a
- 18:11Speaker 4: thing with Jake Moody being hurt in the second half
- 18:14Speaker 4: there changed their strategy. They had to go for it
- 18:16Speaker 4: on a fourth and twenty three within field goal range.
- 18:18Speaker 4: But that was notwithstanding. They have some issues right now. Obviously,
- 18:22Speaker 4: ball security is a problem. You saw in this Jordan
- 18:25Speaker 4: Mason putting it on the ground. Lake kind of opened
- 18:27Speaker 4: the door for the Cardinals to win it. But you know,
- 18:30Speaker 4: they weren't able to finish a drive in the second half,
- 18:32Speaker 4: and that's a problem. This is a team that's built
- 18:34Speaker 4: a score. Brandon Ayuk was having a big game at
- 18:37Speaker 4: that point. Rock Purty looked pretty solid in the first half.
- 18:40Speaker 4: You're up thirteen at half at home against the team
- 18:42Speaker 4: that you'd beaten pretty soundly in that building two years
- 18:45Speaker 4: in a row.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That's got me worried as well.
- 18:47Speaker 4: And you know, look, I will say they did lose
- 18:49Speaker 4: three straight last year, completely undoing what the start of
- 18:52Speaker 4: the season had him doing.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Still ended up in the Super Bowl. I can't quit
- 18:56Speaker 3: him completely.
- 18:58Speaker 4: But I get why your concerns are high right now
- 19:01Speaker 4: because they're they're multiple, they're adding up, and this team
- 19:03Speaker 4: looks a shell of what it used to look like.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're matching up against a desperate Seattle team
- 19:08Speaker 2: in Seattle on a short leak on TNF. So something's
- 19:12Speaker 2: got to give here. The Niners once again dropping six spots,
- 19:14Speaker 2: dropping five spots, and it meant to coaching change with
- 19:17Speaker 2: Robert Salad now being dismissed as the Jets head coach.
- 19:20Speaker 2: What's the fix right now? The short term fix for
- 19:23Speaker 2: this season as the Jets right now figure out ways
- 19:27Speaker 2: new ways to lose football games.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean getting DeVante Adams wouldn't hurt, right. I
- 19:32Speaker 4: wonder if those plans are still on the table though, right,
- 19:34Speaker 4: I don't know if those are separate. If they were,
- 19:36Speaker 4: you know, firing SLA had nothing to do with what
- 19:38Speaker 4: trades they might make and all that, but clearly adding
- 19:41Speaker 4: another offensive weapon would not be a bad thing. We
- 19:44Speaker 4: saw it during parts of this game, second third, even
- 19:47Speaker 4: the fourth quarter for stretches. Aaron can move the ball
- 19:49Speaker 4: a little bit, but finishing drives another red zone weapon,
- 19:53Speaker 4: somebody who can draw attention away from Garrett Williams or
- 19:56Speaker 4: you know, Wilson, excuse me. But also getting this run
- 19:58Speaker 4: game involved early, I mean you follow into a double
- 20:01Speaker 4: digit hole. Braylan Allen and Brece Hall an't going to
- 20:04Speaker 4: get as many carries. They both had a tough game Sunday.
- 20:07Speaker 4: That's two weeks in a row where all's been a
- 20:09Speaker 4: little missing, so that offensive line has not been as
- 20:12Speaker 4: good as it was they're early going.
- 20:14Speaker 3: That's got to be fixed. A lot going on. The
- 20:16Speaker 3: defense is okay.
- 20:17Speaker 4: That really wasn't the issue, which is obviously curious when
- 20:19Speaker 4: you fire a defensive minded head coach.
- 20:21Speaker 3: But things just weren't clicking.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Not at all. They get the Buffalo Bills, who need
- 20:25Speaker 2: a win that game on Monday night, which will be
- 20:27Speaker 2: a very intriguing matchup. We'll have the post game in
- 20:30Speaker 2: the pregame show on NFL Network for you. Cincinnati at
- 20:33Speaker 2: twenty four, I get it. They score thirty eight points,
- 20:35Speaker 2: it goes over time, and they figured they actually they
- 20:37Speaker 2: shouldn't have lost that football game. Let's just call a
- 20:39Speaker 2: spade of spade here. They lost to the Ravens. They
- 20:41Speaker 2: lost to the Chiefs. Like I think they're better than
- 20:43Speaker 2: this ranking that you gave them.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Well, I always say, at some point, you are what
- 20:47Speaker 4: your record is, and it's hard not to ignore the results, right.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I mean, Burrow is on pace right now for a
- 20:53Speaker 4: forty five hundred yard, forty touchdown, seven interception season. He's
- 20:57Speaker 4: been pretty terrific, at least since Week one anyway, and
- 21:01Speaker 4: yet this defense has not been able to stop people.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Consistently played pretty well.
- 21:05Speaker 4: On that side of the ball, all things considered in
- 21:07Speaker 4: the first half, but second half and overtime weren't able
- 21:11Speaker 4: to get those stops. We mentioned how Baltimore came back
- 21:13Speaker 4: from three different ten point deficits and then this might
- 21:17Speaker 4: have been the play of the year. Look, sometimes you
- 21:19Speaker 4: face the Mahomes or Lamar Jackson and they just beat you
- 21:22Speaker 4: with a couple extra plays. So the spot on the
- 21:24Speaker 4: power rankings reflects their record, and you know, and how
- 21:27Speaker 4: they've lost the good teams, like you said, the Commanders
- 21:29Speaker 4: as well, but you know, they just can't find a
- 21:32Speaker 4: way to close things out.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I gotta tell you. And just as an example,
- 21:36Speaker 2: the Jets. I think Cincinnati's a better team than Gangreen
- 21:39Speaker 2: and two teams I put them ahead of your Jets.
- 21:41Speaker 4: I thought, are your Giants. I mean, I thought maybe
- 21:43Speaker 4: I'd guess some credit for that.
- 21:44Speaker 2: You know, by the way, my gimn figured out a
- 21:47Speaker 2: way to get it done. Oh that opening drive, I'm like,
- 21:49Speaker 2: oh my god, this is the season in a microcosm
- 21:53Speaker 2: of the season, and it wasn't pretty, but they figured
- 21:55Speaker 2: out a way to get it done. Let's get your
- 21:57Speaker 2: teams twenty five through thirty two. The Raiders, Minshew gets pulled,
- 22:00Speaker 2: we see Ocondle. They sit at twenty five. We know
- 22:02Speaker 2: DeVante's going to get treated. At twenty sixth the Rams.
- 22:06Speaker 2: How about this squad. Worse start to a season in
- 22:08Speaker 2: Sean mcvay's coaching career. The Dolphins are at twenty eight.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Found a way to get it done against the Patriots.
- 22:13Speaker 2: The Jags, they get a win. They're at twenty nine.
- 22:16Speaker 2: At number thirty, this is rough to watch this Brown squad.
- 22:19Speaker 2: The Patriots are thirty one. They're also at times a
- 22:22Speaker 2: little difficult to watch, especially on the offensive side. And
- 22:24Speaker 2: the Carolina Panthers at thirty two. There's some teams here
- 22:28Speaker 2: that there's a reason why they're at the bottom. I
- 22:31Speaker 2: think maybe the biggest surprise considering what I thought they
- 22:33Speaker 2: could be the Cleveland Browns. Explain to me what is
- 22:36Speaker 2: going on for this squad.
- 22:39Speaker 4: It's not fair to put everything onto Sean Watson's head,
- 22:42Speaker 4: but obviously he has been a big part of this problem.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Considering what they paid two hundred twenty million dollars, considering
- 22:48Speaker 4: a full off season of.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Health and work in the program.
- 22:52Speaker 4: You know, the fact that he wasn't able to really
- 22:54Speaker 4: play as much in the preseason may have some effect,
- 22:56Speaker 4: but I just cannot believe that how far he's regressed
- 22:59Speaker 4: as a player. He and Stefanski maybe have never been
- 23:01Speaker 4: a great stylistic match anyway.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Football wise, the offensive.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Line injuries, the running back injuries, and that defense too,
- 23:09Speaker 4: Let's call them out. They have not been as dominant
- 23:11Speaker 4: as they were a year ago.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I'm with you. I'm with you in a big way
- 23:16Speaker 2: because defensively, there has been struggles for this squad. Hey,
- 23:20Speaker 2: before we wrap up here, the Jags, I made reference
- 23:22Speaker 2: to it getting a win. They're playing like the home
- 23:24Speaker 2: away from home game in London? Is this Are we
- 23:27Speaker 2: going to see this again? They're gonna beat the Bears?
- 23:29Speaker 3: Hey, they could.
- 23:30Speaker 4: I think they have a little bit of momentum, but
- 23:32Speaker 4: got to finish it off better than they did against
- 23:34Speaker 4: the Colts.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Catch the game nine thirty Eastern Time on NFL Network.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Raki the best Man will do it again next week.
