- 0:00Lake Snell, two years. Two years 62.
- 0:02Million, which will be one year. Whoa.
- 0:05I hope for him it is too bad for him.
- 0:09Do you? Kind of.
- 0:13A little bit. I mean, why do you hold?
- 0:15On Young. He probably got offered a lot of
- 0:18money and he turned it down. Do we know that?
- 0:20No, but you would think. He probably would guarantee that
- 0:23there were people kicking the tires earlier and they were
- 0:26like, Nope, we're holding out. We're holding out.
- 0:28We're holding. Out.
- 0:28I'm not saying they don't. Feel sorry for him.
- 0:30The kind of bag that the other guys got, but I guarantee
- 0:34someone gave more than that. Yeah, so now he's got two years
- 0:37with an out in between. Yes, he does.
- 0:41So he'll get by. Our rotation on his. 31 million
- 0:44or whatever he's paid in that first year.
- 0:46He'll get by on that. Yeah.
- 0:48Oh, for sure, I think. He can get by on that.
- 0:50Yeah, I don't think he's going to be eating ramen and tuna,
- 0:53but. The.
- 0:55But if you were, but if you were a team where you're you're
- 0:58starting rotation is. Has Jordan Hickson?
- 1:03OK or. If you're a team where maybe the
- 1:06guy you, you, you count on the front of the rotation, got a
- 1:09little hammy, little hammy and ain't going to make that first
- 1:12start, maybe you look into that. I don't know if I mean there
- 1:15might be a team out. There unreasonable.
- 1:17OK, I didn't know of this. It is Bob Nightingale who I
- 1:21love, by the way. But here comes the thing.
- 1:24But sometimes the the numbers can get floated.
- 1:27But Bob Nightingale tweeted the Yankees offered him 150 and then
- 1:34they pulled their offer. Now somebody else said six
- 1:38years, 168 from the Yankees. If we just, if we just assume
- 1:42Bob Nightingale's is true, I mean 6150 is kind of what
- 1:47everybody thought that all three of those guys would get Snell,
- 1:52NOLA got a little more and even Montgomery like that 25,000,000
- 1:56AAV, that's what Nola got what 7 years 168.
- 2:01I was gonna say 1:30, but so. He got, I think he got 24 AAV
- 2:06for seven years. Sounds about right.
- 2:08So if Snell turned that down, that's really stupid.
- 2:11Exactly. That's why I don't feel.
- 2:12So I don't feel sorry for I know.
- 2:13That's what I'm saying. Your agent screwed you.
- 2:16Was that reported though, Like, until yesterday?
- 2:19I don't have to. I don't have to read someone
- 2:21else's report to extrapolate on my own that he was offered a
- 2:27longer deal with more money. Maybe not what they were looking
- 2:30for, but I mean, Snell's out there.
- 2:33They were talking, no? Someone, someone put some on the
- 2:36table. Not what they wanted, maybe, but
- 2:39certainly better than what he got.
- 2:41But that's a really good deal. Turning that down is stupid.
- 2:45I understand if they said, hey, four years, 100.
- 2:50Is this the biggest gap from a somebody that you think would
- 2:52have? Has this happened before?
- 2:55I mean, I know it has, but like a big dog's, like I'm holding
- 2:58out and I'm holding out and all of a sudden.
- 3:00It just happened to Matt Chapman, right?
- 3:02We haven't seen Maddie Chapman. Wasn't he offered a?
- 3:04101 Fifty Declined 100 million Sign for 54,000,000 Giants, and
- 3:10then the wombat goes. Cody Bellinger seeking 200
- 3:13Schmel signed 80 million Cubs. But what was his offer?
- 3:17Because Chapman was actually offered the 100.
- 3:20Over how many years, though? I don't know 'cause the.
- 3:23AAV game, Kind of. OK.
- 3:25But if you're Blake Snell, you're not going to get better
- 3:28than six 150. That's a very fair deal.
- 3:31I could see him thinking in his head, slash with the council of
- 3:36Scott Boris, that if Aaron Nola got X amount of money, well, I
- 3:40got two Cy Youngs in my name. So I'm X plus something and I'm
- 3:45kind of, you know, feeling yourself a little bit in free
- 3:47agency and waiting for just an extra 20 million on the deal or
- 3:52something like that and so. Damn.
- 3:55I can see an argument where those guys are probably thinking
- 3:57man, pretty astronomical numbers even for these already
- 4:01astronomical numbers. But he had, he has issues with
- 4:05innings usually. I mean, this past year he was
- 4:08good, but he's not Aaron Nola from a workhorse standpoint and
- 4:12they. Also give you 5 innings, right?
- 4:14They also paid Aaron Nola to basically not go out there.
- 4:17I mean, they kept him, you know, and he's their guy.
- 4:20Somebody said I don't know where you're getting us from the
- 4:22wombat. It says baseball.
- 4:25Whatever. But Blake Snell seeking 300 +
- 4:271,000,000 declined 168,000,000 Yankees and remains unsigned.
- 4:32But I guess now he's signed for 62 million.
- 4:33Has Boris lost his fastball? I don't know.
- 4:38I certainly did this offseason. It's a it's a game of musical
- 4:41chairs, Yep. And you and you, if you're a
- 4:44player, are just sitting there while your agent plays that game
- 4:47for you. Sometimes the music stops.
- 4:51Terasenko, Same thing. He's going to be OK now,
- 4:54Hopefully. But he turned down multiple
- 4:56years. Thought he's going to get more.
- 4:58Got backed up into a jam. Then he signs one year with all
- 5:02the wall Ottawa miserable Ottawa.
- 5:07These baseball teams these days, they like to do it on the cheap.
- 5:12They do. All of them.
- 5:13They like to get deals. How about the Giants?
- 5:15The Giants get 2 steals. Do you blame them though?
- 5:18No. No, I'm saying if we we talked
- 5:21about both Chapman with a big offer and reportedly Snell with
- 5:24a big offer and the Giants get both these guys.
- 5:28Now I don't want to say a discount, but from from a year
- 5:31standpoint, but hell, it's essentially A1 year deal for an
- 5:36ace. This is what I thought of when I
- 5:38saw the deal. It's a it's an obvious question
- 5:41if you're the Cardinals, which deal would you prefer, Sonny
- 5:44Grey's deal or Blake Snell's deal?
- 5:46And it's not fair to throw it out there because it's totally
- 5:48different times of the market. What's?
- 5:55Grey's deal again. 375. I'd probably say Snell.
- 6:00Just for more upside. Snow a little bit better.
- 6:04I also. Younger.
- 6:05Factoring in that you know if if you're a team who fancies
- 6:10itself, or if you're a fan base who fancies itself a fan base of
- 6:15a team that you think is cheap, I get it.
- 6:17You know they're still like about #10 in the in the in the
- 6:21league in that regard. So they're the Cardinals are not
- 6:23a cheap organization. But relative to the Dodgers and
- 6:26the Braves and the Yankees and the other and the other teams
- 6:28that you're trying to get past, yes, compared to those teams,
- 6:32you're cheap. So I I can see there being some
- 6:36level of excitement if Blake Snell comes off the books and
- 6:40you're like, oh hey, $33 million just wiped away from our roster.
- 6:44Now we get to do it all over again and then there being some
- 6:47level of excitement next offseason for that.
- 6:49What What was your take on the Marmol extension?
- 6:54Charlie Marlow. Good old Ollie.
- 6:55Good old Ollie. I just.
- 6:58I just thought it was kind of odd.
- 7:01It it doesn't super surprise me just because of the way the
- 7:04Cardinals do business. I thought the timing of it was a
- 7:08little weird. It did feel like the the Friday
- 7:10Political news dump. For what's a?
- 7:13For what's a big piece of information?
- 7:15You see that, oh, the Cardinals are holding a press conference.
- 7:17You're you're trying to think, what is it?
- 7:19What's it going to be? Is it an extension for?
- 7:22Could it be for Newt or Jordan Walker?
- 7:25The Goldie thing, I think, would have to happen in the offseason,
- 7:27But then you see that. So then once I heard MO Zaylok's
- 7:31comments, I understand why they did it.
- 7:34I still don't. I don't like the way MO framed
- 7:37it. It almost seemed like there was
- 7:41this inevitability. Now there's going to be a really
- 7:43bad start based on the schedule. He had another injury with
- 7:47Keenan Middleton. It almost said, hey, we're going
- 7:49to have a bad start. The fans and media are going to
- 7:52start bitching. We're just going to put that
- 7:55aside away, which I understand why you do that, but I think
- 7:59it's. I don't know, I just don't think
- 8:01it's a great message two weeks from the beginning of the
- 8:04season. But you know what?
- 8:06I think he's not going to be fired mid season.
- 8:08I think it's fair to say that. But if he has a horrible year,
- 8:10could they still get rid of him afterwards?
- 8:12Sure. I agree with you that pretty
- 8:16much painting a picture of doom, just so if doom happens, it
- 8:21doesn't seem to be that impactful.
- 8:23You're not fooling anyone with that.
- 8:24So don't say that stuff. But I do think part of its
- 8:28optics, because I think if the Cardinals are a disaster, I
- 8:33think they still could whack Ollie at mid season if they're a
- 8:36disaster. And just because he's got two
- 8:39years, I mean, it's not like that's prohibitive in terms of
- 8:42money for them to make a move. So I think part of its optics.
- 8:47I also think somewhere in there there's a Yachty connection.
- 8:50We still don't know where Yachty is.
- 8:52Yeah, I don't know how this is related, but it seems like there
- 8:56might be a Yachty. Connection somehow, Yachty.
- 9:00And you got pool holes. Now who wants to be a skipper?
- 9:04Yes, he does. Where's he at right now?
- 9:06He's got his nice little 10 year, 10 year.
- 9:08What is it? Personal services.
- 9:10Deal with the. With Angels.
- 9:11With the Angels? Yep.
- 9:12That's a good gig, right? He's doing.
- 9:13Jersey exchanges. That's a good.
- 9:15Gig right there. That's a good gig.
- 9:16Do you see that jersey exchange with the NBA the other day?
- 9:19The funny one, Yeah, I did see that one.
- 9:21Yes. I think that's hilarious.
- 9:22Didn't Fred had a nice article about the Cardinals today?
- 9:25Nice little article. Kind of went through different
- 9:26things that's going on. Little stats.
- 9:28What do we got? Well, I'll find it for you.
- 9:31Forget stats. Go go with injuries.
- 9:33I mean, that's crazy. Yeah, we're dealing with that.
- 9:36He just mentioned Middleton now has an issue like they are
- 9:40besieged by injuries before the season even starts.
- 9:44Do you see the power rankings of MLB?
- 9:46What'd you say? How about you guess?
- 9:49Where they're. Where they were I.
- 9:51Think they're going to have the Cardinals lower than we would?
- 9:54Well, just throw a number out there.
- 9:57Just power. Rankings 22nd.
- 10:00Everybody. Pretty good guess.
- 10:01Pretty. Dang.
- 10:02Good guess. I'm gonna say 18.
- 10:04I'll go oh, now I gotta, gotta meet in the middle, 2020. 18 on
- 10:09the number Dude, that was lower than I thought it would be.
- 10:12Yeah, I thought it would be like 1415.
- 10:15So it was just written though, so to be fair you could take
- 10:18into account a plethora of injuries, so.
- 10:22Ben Fred's like, OK, zero. That's the number of camp
- 10:25appearances so far from the new special assistant to the
- 10:28president of baseball operations, Yadi, Her Molina.
- 10:30So much for hoping the retired catching legend would be would
- 10:34be hands on with Wilson Contreras and Ivan Herrera this
- 10:38spring. Time is running out.
- 10:42Hey, by the way, it's hilarious. Charlie, just it's great.
- 10:45Think about it. Charlie just gave us a trivia
- 10:47question, and that question was brought to you by the Post
- 10:50Sports Bar and Grill. The official cheesesteak of Hot
- 10:52Tank Central tied it in. The thing that's disconcerting
- 10:55about Yachty, like as a special advisor, your role is kind of
- 11:00undefined to begin with. OK, people, that thought Yachty
- 11:03is going to be the secondary bench coach?
- 11:06Probably not going to happen. You know, we're right sitting
- 11:08right there in the dugout, Probably not going to happen.
- 11:11But what's just concerning is the Cardinals don't really know
- 11:14when he's going to show up. And that's kind of.
- 11:19It's awesome. It's kind of like hilarious, not
- 11:22unexpected. It reminds.
- 11:23Me like Brett Hall like the Blues hired Holly And you just
- 11:26like I'm down Mexico drink go to go like how come when I need to
- 11:30exactly. That's what Yadi should do this
- 11:33entire this entire episode. If if you can't appreciate the
- 11:37humor in all of this so fun, then you have no sense of humor.
- 11:41It started. It started when basically Yadi
- 11:45said I have a job with the Cardinals, remember?
- 11:47And then MO's like, well we haven't really discussed it, but
- 11:49yeah, and then like 2 days later there was a press release.
- 11:52Yadi just does whatever he wants.
- 11:53It's hilarious. He does.
- 11:55They should just say, MO should just say, guys, we all know Yadi
- 11:58Yadi's going to do what Yadi's going to do.
- 12:00Yadi's going to do it. Yadi's.
- 12:01Because that's the truth. You're Dang right.
- 12:03Even even part of that maybe wasn't as public is when they
- 12:07were discussing a possible position on the coaching staff,
- 12:12someone in the organization, and they were in the middle of
- 12:15talks. And then Yadi wasn't hurt from
- 12:18for weeks until he decided he was going to be an advisor.
- 12:22Like it wasn't just Yadi. Yadi had talked to him about a
- 12:24coaching spot and then disappeared and then announced
- 12:28that he was going to be an advisor.
- 12:30For him though, he got whatever he's getting paid and not doing
- 12:34a lot good for him. He basically created a job,
- 12:38which isn't really a job. Let's be real about it, which is
- 12:40fine. Doesn't bother me.
- 12:42I just think it's funny. I can tell you the advisors
- 12:45don't make a boatload of money, they.
- 12:47Well, whatever he's making for not being there.
- 12:49I'll do anything. Here's another 113.
- 12:54It would be encouraging to see a 36 year old Paul Goldschmidt
- 12:57heat up at the plate before camp breaks.
- 12:59He's got a team high 13 strikeouts through 31 at bats.
- 13:02His spring slash line of one 61270 and 323 currently converts
- 13:07to a 593 OPS that would mark the lowest spring OPS of his career.
- 13:12Goldschmidt is entering the final year of his contract and
- 13:15there have been no signs that an extension is coming this.
- 13:18Spring. Listen, he knows nothing about
- 13:20baseball because anyone will tell you Paul Goldsmith talks
- 13:24about barreling the ball. If he barrels the ball, then he
- 13:28had a good at bat. He's working on some things.
- 13:31He's working on he's. Seeing what it's like to not
- 13:33barrel the ball. Yeah, he's working.
- 13:36On all seeing pitches. These stats are racing about 8
- 13:39days. I ain't worried about it.
- 13:40Alright, alright, I'm just reading what Ben Fred throwing
- 13:43out here, baby. Freddy's great. 5 548 I don't
- 13:47want to be an alarmist, but the Cardinals starters this spring
- 13:49have a combined 548 ERA through 20 through two starts and 64
- 13:54innings of Grapefruit League action.
- 13:56That's fifth highest among National League rotations.
- 13:58Dodger starters have a National League best spring rotation ERA
- 14:01of 286 through 19 starts and 50 innings.
- 14:06Well, the good news, the good news is Libertor has given up
- 14:09most of those runs and right now he's just rotation depth.
- 14:13There's been, there's been a lot of bad stuff, some good.
- 14:17I mean there's some guys having decent offensive springs.
- 14:20I don't know what you make of, yeah, spring training, but it
- 14:22certainly isn't something that makes you think it's going to be
- 14:25a great year. And it's not even the ERA.
- 14:28It's the injuries, right? I mean, Tommy's not there,
- 14:32Sonny's not there, Newts not there, Middleton's not there.
- 14:37Those are pieces that supposedly are important pieces.
- 14:40Now they're not long term injuries or so we believe, but
- 14:45you it's important for this team to get off to a good start.
- 14:48So it's not deja vu from last year and it kind of looks like
- 14:52they're going to slide in that direction.
- 14:53I hope I'm wrong. And you got somebody basically
- 14:56from every position group, almost nicked up Keenan
- 14:59Middleton. That that forearm tightness that
- 15:02can usually not usually I almost usually.
- 15:04Sometimes that turns into the big dog.
- 15:06The big sometimes the big boy. Edmond.
- 15:09Edmond. When the hell is he going to
- 15:10play? None of your business.
- 15:13None of your business, Charlie. How dare you ask that question?
- 15:15Well, I want to, I want to bet on the I want to bet on the wind
- 15:18total. Where are we at with that?
- 15:19What are we thinking Cole, are you excited?
- 15:21Are you excited for a OK, but 82, I feel like I would say the
- 15:27same thing, but I feel like how do you get to 82 because if
- 15:31they're bad there could be a sell off.
- 15:34You know what I'm saying? Like to me it's I almost think
- 15:37it's either going to be other. Well, I'm.
- 15:39Saying, I almost think it's going to be either 74 wins or
- 15:4190, you know what I'm saying? Because because if they suck,
- 15:45they're going to sell off again. But if they're at 82 pace at the
- 15:49trade deadline or they're just in the mix?
- 15:51Then they're going to add in the mix, in the mix, in the mix, and
- 15:53then they kind of die off at the end 'cause injuries.
- 15:55It's really a hard. Thing to pick.
- 15:57You know, but I'm telling the Blues.
- 16:00I think that for the Cardinals to get to 90, not impossible.
- 16:04Then they got a hit like crazy, they got a hit like crazy and
- 16:08then the guys they brought in have to go 6.
- 16:11Even if they're giving up four runs, you know five runs.
- 16:14They got to stay in games and out hit teams.
- 16:16I it's possible, but it's hard to imagine another more likely
- 16:21scenario than that. And by the way, I'm not rooting
- 16:24for this, because I truly I know Cole is.
- 16:26I'm joking. I want the Cardinals to be good.
- 16:28I'm not joking. But if we talk about storylines,
- 16:31it all wraps into what we said earlier.
- 16:33Here's the good storyline. I hate to say it, Cardinals have
- 16:37that really rough start. And the 2nd, that they're now
- 16:42three and eight who starts to show up to be the special
- 16:45assistant every day. That would be the interesting
- 16:48story. They're three and eight, and
- 16:50then all of a sudden Yadi starts showing up every day.
- 16:54And then they win. And again, I'm.
- 16:56I'm. Just this is this is 75% joke.
- 16:59Then they start winning. But that's seven.
- 17:00Straight. But that's that's the funny
- 17:03storyline, yeah. They start winning games.
- 17:07People are talking about yachties presents there.
- 17:09All these. Extensions.
- 17:11Damn, dude. I think it's tied in.
- 17:14I think no, Yachty somehow was tied into.
- 17:17I haven't talked to anyone, but out of the blue, Ollie gets the
- 17:20extension. They don't know where Yachty is.
- 17:22I don't know. It's got to be related somehow.
- 17:25Don't you think that was my whole point on the timing of it?
- 17:28I understand, even if I disagree, that Look, Ollie is
- 17:32their man. That's fine and it may work.
- 17:35But if he was always your man and you don't blame him for
- 17:382023, then you would have thought this way all throughout
- 17:42the offseason. And I feel like there was a a
- 17:45time to do this not two weeks before the season that wasn't as
- 17:51alarming. And this gets back to I agree
- 17:53with you, Yachty not showing up when again, a lot of folks think
- 17:57he's going to be the successor. If you think about John Mosalak,
- 18:01that he has two years left and you you would think he would
- 18:04want to have yati as his manager and try to corral him in his
- 18:08last two years, that's kind of insanity.
- 18:10Like I think Daniel Descalzo would have a better shot
- 18:13honestly of of getting that job. But I do think that his comments
- 18:17Mozalak's show they were very reactionary to the schedule and
- 18:22the injuries and I don't think from a messaging standpoint that
- 18:26was too great to throw out there two weeks before the season
- 18:29started. What's Skip's contract with the
- 18:31Marlins? I have no idea.
- 18:33'Cause that'd be the guy you'd want back if you could get him.
- 18:37Yeah, he don't want to leave down there.
- 18:39What are you talking about? He's product of the Cardinal
- 18:41Way. Yeah, now he's probably got a
- 18:43nice place down there. The media is OK.
- 18:46I don't know. Not even there.
- 18:48Nobody's showing up. No one's there, no one's.
- 18:50Nobody cares. Nobody even cares.
- 18:51You just go out there and do your thing.
- 18:54It's almost as if the Cardinals drubbed up a yay yachty is back.
- 18:58Smokescreen to cover up for an awful offseason.
- 19:00Completely shocked he hasn't shown up.
- 19:02Whatever. The win total is hammer the
- 19:04under. This team is an absolute joke.
- 19:0690 wins is a new ceiling. What happened to this once great
- 19:10franchise? So, so very sad. 90 wins
