- 0:00Hey everyone, welcome back to In THE Stillness.
- 0:03This is friendly. Happy Tuesday.
- 0:07I don't know what your week has started off like.
- 0:10Maybe it's already been busy heavy, or maybe you're just
- 0:13trying to stay consistent and continue showing up.
- 0:17But wherever you are right now, I'm so glad that you're joining
- 0:20me. Today's combo is real.
- 0:23It's direct, but it's also very encouraging.
- 0:27We are going to be talking about something that truthfully
- 0:30effects all of us whether we realize it or not.
- 0:34And it's what it actually means to live in authority as a
- 0:38believer of Jesus Christ. So let's go ahead and read the
- 0:43scripture for today. We are going to be in first John
- 0:47chapter 4, verses 4 to 6, little children.
- 0:53You can be certain that you belong to God and have conquered
- 0:56them, for the one who is living in you is far greater than the
- 1:01one who is in the world. They belong to this world, and
- 1:05they articulate the spirit of this world, and the world
- 1:09listens to them. But we belong to God, and
- 1:14whoever truly knows God listens to us.
- 1:18Those who refuse to listen to us do not belong to God.
- 1:24That is how we can know the spirit of truth and the spirit
- 1:28of deceit. OK, let's just be honest for a
- 1:33second. This world that we live in, it
- 1:37does not just tolerate evil, it often celebrates it.
- 1:41You see it everywhere. It is all up in your face in
- 1:45movies, TV shows, in the music we listen to, in celebrities,
- 1:52award ceremonies, even cultural trends.
- 1:55Things that clearly go against the heart of God are not only
- 2:00accepted, but oftentimes applauded.
- 2:05And Scripture is so clear about all of this.
- 2:09The spirit of the Antichrist is not just some distant future
- 2:13thing. It is already at work right now.
- 2:17It shows up through deception, through voices that distract and
- 2:22pull us away from the truth, through influences that really
- 2:26make sin look normal and sometimes desirable.
- 2:32But Jesus warns us for a reason. In Matthew Chapter 7.
- 2:37He says to beware of false prophets who come to you in
- 2:40sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
- 2:45So that is the danger. Deception does not always look
- 2:49obvious, and for believers who are not truly grounded in the
- 2:54Word and being alert and guarded, it can be really easy
- 3:00to be pulled off the narrow path.
- 3:03Rejecting Jesus is not always loud.
- 3:06Sometimes it just looks like ignoring His teachings, picking
- 3:10and choosing what might feel comfortable in the moment,
- 3:13following parts of the gospel, but not all of it.
- 3:18But y'all, we are not called to partial obedience.
- 3:22Ephesians 4 verse 27 says give no opportunity to the devil.
- 3:29Other translations say don't give him a foothold.
- 3:33But that is what compromise does.
- 3:35Compromise creates space for the enemy to operate in your life.
- 3:41So a real question to sit with is, is there any sin in your
- 3:45life currently that you've been justifying or even compromising
- 3:50on? This is not to bring
- 3:52condemnation because there is no condemnation for those who are
- 3:56in Christ Jesus, but this is an invitation back into alignment.
- 4:02While this is all super serious, we are not meant to live
- 4:06stressed, anxious, or even overwhelmed by the darkness and
- 4:10evil in this world. Jesus says in John chapter 16
- 4:15verse 33 that in this world you will have tribulation, but take
- 4:21heart, for I've overcome the world and that directly connects
- 4:25us to 1st John 4/4 that we just read earlier.
- 4:29The one who lives in you is greater than the one who is in
- 4:32the world. So yes, evil does exist.
- 4:36It is so real and prominent, but it is not superior to the Spirit
- 4:43of God that is within you. Think about what you carry as a
- 4:47believer. You have access to the Word of
- 4:50God. You have the Holy Spirit, God's
- 4:53presence, dwelling inside of you.
- 4:56You have Jesus in heaven interceding for you.
- 5:00There is nothing, nothing greater than what is within you.
- 5:05And yet so often I think we live like we are powerless, like we
- 5:11have less than what we have. Scripture says in Ephesians 2,
- 5:15too, that Satan is the Prince of the power of the air.
- 5:19So he influences the systems of this world, culture, societal
- 5:25standards, what is really normalized.
- 5:28And John, it says actually in the commentary, uses the word
- 5:33world in that way over 100 times, and it's implying society
- 5:40patterns that we're surrounded by.
- 5:43So think today like how success is measured by money or status,
- 5:49maybe how beauty is defined, what is celebrated versus what
- 5:53is actually holy and pure. Satan uses all of it to distract
- 5:59and to deceive. But The thing is, all of it
- 6:04pales in comparison to Jesus Christ.
- 6:07Matthew 28 verse 18 says that all authority in heaven and on
- 6:12earth has been given to Jesus. Y'all it is all authority
- 6:18entirely. Isaiah 66 verse one says heaven
- 6:23is my throne and the earth is my footstool.
- 6:26So if Jesus has all authority, the devil has no authority.
- 6:33Even in the book of Job, Satan had to ask God for permission to
- 6:38test him, and someone who has to ask permission is under
- 6:43authority. So why do we keep giving the
- 6:46weaker 1A voice in our thoughts, in our relationships,
- 6:51friendships, in our own homes? I think so often we allow fear
- 6:57to speak in, we let insecurity speak, we let lies speak.
- 7:03But we have authority in Christ Jesus.
- 7:07So just ask yourself, what am I listening to?
- 7:11What am I believing and who am I believing?
- 7:15Is it shaped by the world's perspective or by God's truth?
- 7:21Because there is a difference between what the world
- 7:24celebrates and what God honors. This part really stood out to
- 7:29me. I was praying and asking the
- 7:32Lord to give me a contrast to humility, another word other
- 7:38than pride. And I felt Him whisper the word
- 7:42hubris. And of course I've heard this
- 7:44word before, but I was like, what does that mean?
- 7:48And so I looked it up and y'all, it means excessive pride.
- 7:55The Holy Spirit literally gave me a synonym in the Greek word
- 8:00for the opposite of humility. It made so much sense because
- 8:05sometimes what looks like discipline in the world is
- 8:08actually idolatry that is rooted in pride and control, in self
- 8:14exaltation, not in devotion to God.
- 8:19But the bottom line is that God is after your heart.
- 8:23Malachi 4 verse 2 says But for you who fear my name, the sun of
- 8:28righteousness shall rise with healing in its rays.
- 8:33Nehemiah 111 It says, Let your ear, Lord, be attentive to the
- 8:38prayer of your servant who delights to fear your name.
- 8:42So these verses point to the fact that God delights in those
- 8:47who Revere Him, who love to live for Him.
- 8:51And that does not mean that life becomes easy, but look at what
- 8:55He promises. Isaiah 26 tells us that He keeps
- 8:59in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they
- 9:03trust in Him. Psalm 16, verse 11.
- 9:07In your presence there's fullness of joy.
- 9:10At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
- 9:14So even in trials, even in hardship, you can have peace,
- 9:19you can have joy. The question is, are you letting
- 9:23yourself live in that? Because living in authority does
- 9:27not mean ignoring reality. It means standing firm in truth
- 9:32in the midst of it. Sometimes that truth is not what
- 9:36people want to hear. People naturally want messages
- 9:40that make them feel good, that affirm what their desires want,
- 9:45but truth, real truth that is rooted in the Word of God.
- 9:50It corrects us, It rebukes us, it teaches us so that we can be
- 9:55thoroughly equipped as servants of God.
- 9:59And if we're more focused on being liked than being faithful,
- 10:03we're not going to be effective witnesses for the Kingdom.
- 10:06We have to be delivered from people pleasing.
- 10:10It is not a popularity contest. It's about being a faithful
- 10:14witness. So before I close out in prayer,
- 10:19I want to take a moment to reflect on these things.
- 10:22Where in my life might I be compromising?
- 10:26Am I giving the devil a foothold anywhere?
- 10:30What voices have I been listening to?
- 10:33Is it God's voice or is it the world's voice?
- 10:37Do I truly believe that the Spirit within me is greater than
- 10:41anything around me in this world?
- 10:45And lastly, what would it look like for me to actually live in
- 10:50that divine authority that I've been given?
- 10:54So let's go ahead and pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you
- 11:01for this message. Thank you for this truth.
- 11:06Thank you that your Holy Spirit leads us and guides us into all
- 11:10truth and points us back to you. I pray for wisdom, wisdom from
- 11:16heaven that is pure, that is sincere, impartial, humble.
- 11:24I pray that we would recognize deception quickly and to choose
- 11:29truth boldly. Father, would you give us hearts
- 11:33that are all in for you? Not partially.
- 11:37We want to be fully devoted to you as servants, as daughters
- 11:42and sons, as friends of God. Remind us that Your Spirit lives
- 11:47within us and because of that, we are not powerless.
- 11:52We are actually more than secure in You, Jesus Christ.
- 11:57I pray that you would teach us to walk in humility.
- 12:00May we delight in revering and fearing Your name.
- 12:05May we live in the authority that you have entrusted to us
- 12:09through Jesus. God, keep us steady.
- 12:13Keep us grounded. May we draw closer and closer to
- 12:17You every day, and I pray that you would draw closer to us.
- 12:23We pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 12:26OK guys, well that's today's podcast episode.
- 12:29Praying that y'all are blessed by it, that you can continue
- 12:32learning more about the heart of God, growing in intimacy with
- 12:36the Father, and that y'all have a wonderful rest of your
- 12:39Tuesday. I'll see y'all in the next
- 12:40episode.
