- 2:32Speaker 1: of these topics. So with that being said, let's get
- 2:37Speaker 1: right into the business of things, right, So big shout
- 2:40Speaker 1: out to Hip HOPDX dot com, Double XL mag Sometimes,
- 2:45Speaker 1: even though sometimes I don't like it, they be having
- 2:47Speaker 1: kids posting on social media. But it's all Good and
- 2:51Speaker 1: djbooth dot net and a couple of places where I
- 2:55Speaker 1: get my stories from. Let's get right in to the
- 2:57Speaker 1: business stuff. So the nominees for DBT Hip Hop Awards
- 3:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty four or twenty twenty five whatever have been released,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and honestly, I don't have to tell y'all. Y'a already
- 3:17Speaker 1: know what it is. Some of this is familiar territory,
- 3:22Speaker 1: which is crazy. So this is on hip hopdx dot com.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Meghan Stallion and Kendrick Lamar lead nominees for twenty twenty
- 3:29Speaker 1: four BT Hip Hop Awards. Meghan is leading the way
- 3:36Speaker 1: in nominations for awards, with Kendrick Lamar not too far behind,
- 3:42Speaker 1: which is crazy. He hasn't put an album out, so
- 3:45Speaker 1: you already know what it is. It's about that. Drake, Fauxpac,
- 3:49Speaker 1: BT and Nelson nominees for the nineteenth annual show on Wednesday,
- 3:53Speaker 1: September eighteenth, with Meghan nabbing a whopping twelve nominations and
- 4:01Speaker 1: Kendrick follows with eleven and Drake has eight interesting. Cardi
- 4:11Speaker 1: b Glrilla, Metro Booming and Nicki Minaj also scored multiple
- 4:15Speaker 1: nominations with seven each, while Future Travis Scott. Twenty one,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Savage and Moore received several nominations. Now, this is kind
- 4:25Speaker 1: of crazy. We're going to get into the nominations real quick.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But it's kind of crazy because I remember when a
- 4:34Speaker 1: warsh I'm gonna allow me to get on my old man,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but like my porch, I don't have a porch. I
- 4:40Speaker 1: have ales have a porch allow me to, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 1: do this. But I just remember when multiple nominations was
- 4:49Speaker 1: unique and special, right. It was like somebody had a
- 4:53Speaker 1: clear cut dope album and put out some dope music
- 4:58Speaker 1: and they had sei or eleven or ten nominations. It
- 5:03Speaker 1: feels like literally every star that put out some form
- 5:07Speaker 1: of music has more than five nominations. Now, I don't
- 5:14Speaker 1: know if that's a testa if that's a sign of
- 5:17Speaker 1: how limited music is as far as artists, or how
- 5:24Speaker 1: the newer artists aren't really making an impact or even
- 5:28Speaker 1: being considered, should I say for some of these categories.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So I don't really know how to take it, But
- 5:34Speaker 1: let's get into some of the nominations real quick. Hip
- 5:37Speaker 1: Hop Artists of the Year. These are the nominations. Twenty
- 5:42Speaker 1: one Savage, Cardi B Damn Cardi Bat, She only have
- 5:45Speaker 1: an album out all right, Drake Damn did Drake put?
- 5:51Speaker 1: I don't know future Glowriller, Hendrick Lamar, Meghan the Stallion
- 5:56Speaker 1: and Nicki Minaj. I think they might give that to
- 6:03Speaker 1: Megan the Stallion. I don't know how successful her music
- 6:07Speaker 1: has been, but I know she's literally been everywhere as
- 6:11Speaker 1: far as putting out music, charting new videos, collabs, hosting gigs,
- 6:19Speaker 1: tworking at the Democratic Convention, which I don't know why
- 6:25Speaker 1: peopuld do that, but you know what I mean, Like
- 6:27Speaker 1: her profile is up, so these award shows sometimes that's
- 6:31Speaker 1: all that matters. You know, it's not just the music,
- 6:34Speaker 1: So who else who should it be? Out of those individuals?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Maybe Kendrick. I mean, I know it was Disrecords, but
- 6:46Speaker 1: it wasn't just Disrecords. It was a whole display of
- 6:51Speaker 1: styles and flows and different types of beats that he chose,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and and the writing. Right, Like, we know it's all
- 7:03Speaker 1: dis Records, but there's something special when you can write
- 7:07Speaker 1: something like Euphoria and turn around and do six sixteen
- 7:12Speaker 1: in LA for the boom Batpads, then turn around and
- 7:15Speaker 1: do something so cryptic and eb is that you really
- 7:20Speaker 1: gotta be thinking to do meet the grams and then
- 7:24Speaker 1: you create a damn anthem out of not Like Us.
- 7:28Speaker 1: That's that's more than some of these artists done with
- 7:32Speaker 1: way more songs in the full on album. So I
- 7:35Speaker 1: don't know, call me a bias Kendrick fan, but I
- 7:39Speaker 1: think amongst the lists, I think Megan might get that
- 7:42Speaker 1: song of the Year. I think we might just skip
- 7:45Speaker 1: over this because it's trash year glow glow thriller, not
- 7:50Speaker 1: like Us. Kendrick Mamoshi Meghan Istallion, I don't know what
- 7:56Speaker 1: that's like. That metal booming future Ken Lamar get It Sexy,
- 8:01Speaker 1: Sexy red ftcu Nicki Minaj, I think that's that one joint.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I like that they're playing commercials. I think this is
- 8:10Speaker 1: Fiend with Travis Scott and Playboy Cardi Bent by somebody
- 8:15Speaker 1: named forty one I don't know, and Agora Hills by
- 8:19Speaker 1: Dosha Cam. It's gonna be hard to be not like
- 8:24Speaker 1: us out of these, I'm sorry, it's gonna be hard
- 8:26Speaker 1: to be the only thing that could be not like
- 8:28Speaker 1: us is probably like that, So just give it to him.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Already hip Hop Album of the Year American Dream twenty
- 8:35Speaker 1: one Savage. I think he's trash, so he shouldn't win anyway,
- 8:39Speaker 1: anything anything Glorella, that's the name of album. I like
- 8:44Speaker 1: Gorialer though for All the Dogs Scary Hours Edition, now
- 8:52Speaker 1: nobody really liked for All the Dogs, but the Scary
- 8:55Speaker 1: Hour additions not but auditions I like. But I always
- 9:04Speaker 1: like Drake's Scary Ours joints. I just wish she didn't
- 9:06Speaker 1: tack it on an so I don't think that's whening
- 9:09Speaker 1: In Sexy We Trust Sexy Red Megan, Meghan the Stallion
- 9:14Speaker 1: one of one from Gunna Pink Friday to Nicki minaj Utopia,
- 9:20Speaker 1: Travis Scott and we don't trust You Future in metro Booming,
- 9:25Speaker 1: it might. I think it's gonna come down. I mean,
- 9:27Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot of fans who are gonna
- 9:29Speaker 1: be mad because it's not somebody like Travis Scott. That
- 9:34Speaker 1: album was cool to me. But if I'm looking at
- 9:37Speaker 1: these awards and it's sometimes it's just like Top of
- 9:41Speaker 1: Mind and Popularity Contest. It's either gonna be Meghan or
- 9:46Speaker 1: it's gonna be Future and metro Booming because we don't
- 9:52Speaker 1: trust you and we still don't trust you, which I
- 9:55Speaker 1: love the title track to that Joint. We still don't
- 9:57Speaker 1: trust you. I just think they kind of along with Kendrick,
- 10:03Speaker 1: they kind of own the summer as far as vibe.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And I seen that album like trending when I thought
- 10:09Speaker 1: it was like Dad, like I, you know, the battle
- 10:13Speaker 1: done took place. People forgot about it. Now people still
- 10:15Speaker 1: bumping that album. So best h Hour video. Now I
- 10:19Speaker 1: ain't really watch videos. So there's eight Am and Charlotte
- 10:21Speaker 1: from Drake Ban for Bend. Since you see Ben forty one,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Big Mammulatto, Boa, Megan, thee Stallion, Enough CARDI b not
- 10:33Speaker 1: like us, Kendrick Lamar type Ish Metro Boom in Future,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Travis Scott, Playboy CARDI. Now I saw Boa, I saw
- 10:45Speaker 1: eight Am and Charlotte, but not like us. It's different,
- 10:52Speaker 1: not like us. Again, it's not just the fact that
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's a disrecord, like you forget in a lot of ways,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you forget that it's a disrecord. It's almost like, damn,
- 11:02Speaker 1: this record is so good and I forgot it's a
- 11:06Speaker 1: disrecord Towards Drake. But that video was extra special, like
- 11:12Speaker 1: the colors, the different scenes, how it was shot, the
- 11:18Speaker 1: easter eggs that not only went with what was in
- 11:21Speaker 1: the song, but you know, it was like Kendrick was
- 11:24Speaker 1: taking shots visually at Drake. It just was the perfect
- 11:30Speaker 1: video for this song. It met, it exceeded diype, so
- 11:35Speaker 1: I can't see how it doesn't win that category, all right,
- 11:38Speaker 1: real quick, Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artists forty one three
- 11:43Speaker 1: ten Baby, boss Man d Lo, Cash Cobaine, Lady London,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Sexy Red Skill of Baby, Tommy Richmond. I think it's
- 11:54Speaker 1: gonna be between Tommy Richmond and boss Man Dilo because
- 12:00Speaker 1: I haven't heard one song from boss Man Dilo, but
- 12:02Speaker 1: I swear his name pops up literally everywhere, and to me,
- 12:08Speaker 1: that just says, Okay, well, maybe he's just popular. We're
- 12:12Speaker 1: not going to go with Best Collaboration, Best Duo or
- 12:17Speaker 1: Group Kanye West and Tye Dallar sign two Chains in
- 12:20Speaker 1: Lil Wayne. I forgot about that. Forty one Common in
- 12:24Speaker 1: Pete Rock, Earth Game, Fly, Yana, Boss, Future, Metro, Booming,
- 12:31Speaker 1: Brick Ross, and meat Mill. This category is interesting, like
- 12:37Speaker 1: I think it's going to come down to either being
- 12:39Speaker 1: Common and Pete Rock, even though they are long shot
- 12:41Speaker 1: when you look at the type of artists who are
- 12:44Speaker 1: here and the type of audience they command. But I
- 12:48Speaker 1: think it might be Future and Metro Booming to be
- 12:51Speaker 1: honest and lyricists of the Year. Now this is crazy.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Twenty one Savage, Cardi, b Common, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, What,
- 13:05Speaker 1: MEGANI Stallion, and Nicki Minaj. Now when I say Lil Wayne,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'm like, what did he put out again? But I
- 13:11Speaker 1: forgot he did the joint with two chains, which I
- 13:14Speaker 1: thought was well, that was late last year. That's why
- 13:17Speaker 1: I was here. I don't know. I don't know why
- 13:20Speaker 1: twenty one savages on him, but it gotta go to
- 13:22Speaker 1: Kendrick literally dismantled Drake, literally dismantled this man's whole career
- 13:30Speaker 1: in life in four songs, four very different songs that
- 13:35Speaker 1: are crazy, uh produce of the yeah at l Jacob
- 13:41Speaker 1: Cash Cobain, hit Boy, hit Maker, metro Boom and Pete Rock,
- 13:45Speaker 1: Q Tip and Alchemists. My voter is for Pete Rock.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Them beats are crazy, but I think metro Booman might
- 13:51Speaker 1: get it. And let's see best hip hop platform. This
- 13:58Speaker 1: is interesting. Bootleg cav Club, Shay Shade, What Complex, Drink, Champs,
- 14:06Speaker 1: million dollars worth of game on the Radar, The Breakfast
- 14:09Speaker 1: Clubs Joe Budden Podcast the Shape Room double XL out
- 14:15Speaker 1: of those listed, I would say, just based off of
- 14:21Speaker 1: what they've been doing, they might give it to Shannon
- 14:25Speaker 1: Shop And I don't see any reason why he should
- 14:27Speaker 1: even be listed here. They got a couple other stupid
- 14:31Speaker 1: categories like Hustle of the Year and Best Featured Verse.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I think Kendrick might win that for like that Impact track,
- 14:41Speaker 1: Now that's interesting. Blessings by Nicki Minaj, Fortunate by Common,
- 14:47Speaker 1: Get in with Me, boss Man, Dillo, Hiss Meghanie Stallion,
- 14:52Speaker 1: Humble Me, Killer Mike. Not like us, Kendrick, Lamar, Precision,
- 14:56Speaker 1: Big Sean and Yeah Glow, I think not like us.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It's gonna get that, y'all. Too many black folk was
- 15:05Speaker 1: crip walking over the summer. It was just it was.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It was everybody black and white and Indian and Africa,
- 15:11Speaker 1: like it was everywhere. That's impact. So there you have it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I am not gonna watch like usual. I'll check out
- 15:21Speaker 1: the results to see how close I was as far
- 15:24Speaker 1: as predictions. But you know, and again I'm not on
- 15:29Speaker 1: no super boycott of bt wars. I just don't watch
- 15:31Speaker 1: Awards shows no more because they take a lot of
- 15:34Speaker 1: time to watch, just to not really see a bunch
- 15:38Speaker 1: of great performances. Usually there's one or two here and there,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and somebody has already carved them out and put them
- 15:47Speaker 1: on YouTube in four K where you can just watch that, like,
- 15:49Speaker 1: oh I heard this was dope, I'll watch that. So
- 15:52Speaker 1: it takes less time for me to absorb half of
- 15:54Speaker 1: this stuff. So I like a week off recently from
- 16:04Speaker 1: the podcast, as some of you know, but I put out,
- 16:07Speaker 1: you know, a different episode to kind of I guess
- 16:11Speaker 1: feel that slot, you know what I'm saying with that
- 16:14Speaker 1: time and hip hop bars. And in that week off,
- 16:19Speaker 1: you know, a couple of joints dropped that I didn't
- 16:21Speaker 1: really get to review, some of which I'm not going
- 16:24Speaker 1: to go back to, like Chaos is the Ladder featuring
- 16:27Speaker 1: Conway the Machine and Ransom, two guys who are listed
- 16:32Speaker 1: as top five spinners today. My review of that is
- 16:37Speaker 1: simply I thought it would be better and that's that.
- 16:42Speaker 1: But we'll see where it lands at the end of
- 16:44Speaker 1: the year. Also, Stove God Cooks put out an EP
- 16:48Speaker 1: on the Even website called like don't call me I'm cooking,
- 16:55Speaker 1: or something like that, stop calling me I'm cooking, something
- 16:58Speaker 1: like that. That's in my top five of the year.
- 17:01Speaker 1: We'll talk more about that in the future, but I'm
- 17:04Speaker 1: not going to do a full on review because Thomas
- 17:06Speaker 1: Passing and really everybody doesn't have access to it yet.
- 17:10Speaker 1: But trust me, it's the stove Guide album or EP
- 17:15Speaker 1: we've been waiting for. I think it's more of an EP,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but it's a perfect follow up to Reasonable Drought. But
- 17:23Speaker 1: there is one joint that did drop that I wanted
- 17:27Speaker 1: to review but didn't get a chance to do it
- 17:30Speaker 1: last week, and I figured now's the time because it
- 17:33Speaker 1: should be talked about. And as Dough, She's mixtape Alligator
- 17:38Speaker 1: Bites Never Heal. It's a mixtape mind you, released not
- 17:45Speaker 1: that long ago, a couple of weeks ago, about forty
- 17:47Speaker 1: seven minutes nineteen songs. So the first time I saw
- 17:53Speaker 1: or even heard of Dough she was the video on
- 17:59Speaker 1: tds Instagram for I Think the joint Catfish, and I
- 18:05Speaker 1: was like, damn, Showy's nice. Ain't she down? With tde
- 18:10Speaker 1: And in a lot of ways she reminded me of Kendrick,
- 18:15Speaker 1: which I've heard a lot of people say, like she's
- 18:19Speaker 1: TD's female Kendrick now, and I will say this, I
- 18:26Speaker 1: see the similarities and I think what reminds you of
- 18:31Speaker 1: Kendrick with her specifically, it is not her being just
- 18:36Speaker 1: a female version of Kendrick, but more so her creativity
- 18:40Speaker 1: and how she approaches the music right right, everything is
- 18:44Speaker 1: in bars, everything is in quirkiness. It's almost unpredictable. Before
- 18:51Speaker 1: you press play right you may look at a title,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you may have some preliminary thoughts about what that song's about,
- 18:58Speaker 1: your here to beat, and her approach can be very different.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I think she's an excellent storyteller because I was totally
- 19:06Speaker 1: engaged on Deny. It was a river and I love
- 19:12Speaker 1: what she did there. It reminded me of old school
- 19:16Speaker 1: hip hop and how creativity and artistry were at the forefront.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It's one of the reasons why I love Kendrick Lamar
- 19:22Speaker 1: like he reminds. He brings back that excitement, that anticipation
- 19:28Speaker 1: for his albums and where everything sounds like it could
- 19:33Speaker 1: be very simple on the surface, it never is so,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and that's a big part of hip hop. So with
- 19:40Speaker 1: this mixtape, keep in mind Alligator Bites Never Heal from Doshi.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think it is one of the best of the year,
- 19:52Speaker 1: but I don't know. Considering everything we've gotten this year,
- 19:56Speaker 1: if it's going to be it's not going to be
- 19:59Speaker 1: my top five, but I'm not even sure if it's
- 20:02Speaker 1: gonna make the top ten lists I have for Best
- 20:05Speaker 1: of the Year just because of competition. And I only
- 20:08Speaker 1: say that because I think this mixtape starts off extremely strong,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and then towards the end it starts to die down
- 20:17Speaker 1: a little bit, like the songs aren't as creative and
- 20:22Speaker 1: the energy isn't the same as it is when you
- 20:25Speaker 1: hit them first couple of records. Now, again, there's nineteen
- 20:29Speaker 1: songs on here, so it does take a while before
- 20:32Speaker 1: you even get to that point. It's literally towards the
- 20:35Speaker 1: end of the album, maybe the last five records. So
- 20:39Speaker 1: I'm definitely not killing her for that. But at the
- 20:41Speaker 1: end of the day, it's a mixtape, so it's not
- 20:45Speaker 1: meant to be anything but a collection of songs. It's
- 20:50Speaker 1: just the way they set up the first fifteen records,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and I don't like everything, but I like the majority
- 20:59Speaker 1: of it. The way they set it up, it starts
- 21:02Speaker 1: to feel like an album. It just isn't strong enough
- 21:05Speaker 1: at the end, Like I heard people saying, oh this
- 21:07Speaker 1: is this is comfortable to Kendrick. Section eighty No it's not.
- 21:14Speaker 1: It's not because that was considered a mixtape, right, but
- 21:19Speaker 1: it never it doesn't play out like a mixtape. That
- 21:21Speaker 1: plays out like an album. And that's why some people say, hey,
- 21:24Speaker 1: Kendrick's first album is section eighty, because it feels like
- 21:28Speaker 1: an album from beginning to end. The concept is there
- 21:32Speaker 1: and you just go from beginning to end and it
- 21:34Speaker 1: doesn't feel like, oh, well, what's that song? It doesn't
- 21:37Speaker 1: match blah blah blah. This feels like it's headed in
- 21:41Speaker 1: that direction, but it just doesn't end strong enough to me.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Standout tracks on here for me, Bullfrog Denial is a
- 21:52Speaker 1: river catfish for the boom bab Heads. There's a song
- 21:56Speaker 1: called boom Bab. I think it's pretty dope death role.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I like Nissan Ultima and probably another joint that I'm
- 22:07Speaker 1: not really seeing on here, or at least I don't remember,
- 22:12Speaker 1: but again, I think it's a dope album. And I'll
- 22:16Speaker 1: say this for her whenever they whenever TD decides to
- 22:21Speaker 1: release her debut album, I'll say that for those who
- 22:27Speaker 1: are wondering where she falls in the grand scheme of
- 22:31Speaker 1: female EMCs or MC's in general, but specifically female EMCs,
- 22:36Speaker 1: she's somewhere in between Rhapsody and the extreme of Cardi B.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Or Megan thee Stallion. Now she's not really them, but
- 22:52Speaker 1: she's not really Rhapsody either. She's a combination between intelligence, thought,
- 22:59Speaker 1: perform music, sex appeal, honesty. And I think when I
- 23:05Speaker 1: say Megan is Stallion and Cardi B. Sex appeal and
- 23:09Speaker 1: honesty is them as well. And uh, there's no shade
- 23:12Speaker 1: at Rhapsody. But Rhapsody is a rapidy rap rapper to
- 23:16Speaker 1: most people, and I think though she falls in the
- 23:19Speaker 1: middle where she has an opportunity to be a huge
- 23:27Speaker 1: hip hop star or the ladies with Bars, that's something
- 23:33Speaker 1: that was unattainable for Rhapsody. A lot of people like her,
- 23:36Speaker 1: but there's a lot of people who don't mess with
- 23:38Speaker 1: or or whatever because she's rapidy rap. And the same
- 23:41Speaker 1: goes for like the Cardi B's and the Megan. There's
- 23:44Speaker 1: a lot of people who like them, and there's a
- 23:46Speaker 1: lot of people who don't like them because they don't
- 23:47Speaker 1: think they're skilled. Though she is right in the middle
- 23:51Speaker 1: right like she's created, she's she is a platinum album
- 23:58Speaker 1: waiting to happen. She is a feature, a dope feature
- 24:03Speaker 1: on a boom Back album waiting to Happen like she's dope,
- 24:07Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens. But I think when it
- 24:10Speaker 1: comes to the mixtape, if you're you know, if you're
- 24:14Speaker 1: into what I described about her and the music on head,
- 24:18Speaker 1: you should definitely check it out. Because I think she's
- 24:22Speaker 1: interesting enough and new enough. But also she's talked a
- 24:27Speaker 1: lot about boom back and the origins of hip hop
- 24:31Speaker 1: and how important that is to her and her music,
- 24:35Speaker 1: and they are examples of her doing boom back, not
- 24:39Speaker 1: just the record boom Bat, but there are examples like
- 24:41Speaker 1: the song Catfish of her being an EMC and I
- 24:47Speaker 1: think it's dope, so check it out. And lastly, so recently,
- 24:56Speaker 1: cls Move appeared on the Drink Champs podcast. It said
- 25:02Speaker 1: three hours on that show, and I said, no, thank you, sir,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I'm good. I pay you at the door. I'm good.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I'm not coming inside there. No, I don't want to
- 25:13Speaker 1: be there. Not three hours of Seal Smooth and no
- 25:17Speaker 1: reinterrupt them. I can't do it. But I saw a
- 25:21Speaker 1: lot of clips from it, and one clip in particular,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I saw what Seal Smooth talking about how him and
- 25:28Speaker 1: Pete Rock should do a new album for the fans
- 25:33Speaker 1: because the fans want it right. And I find that
- 25:37Speaker 1: interesting because if you don't know the history, p Rock
- 25:41Speaker 1: and Seal Smooth's last real album was the main Ingredient.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I think it's their best album, to be honest, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't hold you if you called it a classic.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You know, like to say that, oh, p Rock and
- 25:56Speaker 1: Steel Smooth had two classics and a classic EP. I
- 25:59Speaker 1: would argue that at all. But that was years ago.
- 26:03Speaker 1: That was mid nineties or early nineties. I think when
- 26:06Speaker 1: Main and Gridy came out, probably mid or early I
- 26:11Speaker 1: think it was like ninety three or something. I don't know,
- 26:14Speaker 1: but that was a long time ago. That was decades ago,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and from that time on, I guess you would say,
- 26:21Speaker 1: if you don't know, well, why haven't they worked together?
- 26:24Speaker 1: You're talking about all they got is classics. Why haven't
- 26:27Speaker 1: they worked together? They've done a single here and there,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but there's been a lot of beef and a lot
- 26:33Speaker 1: of the heat in the venom was coming from cl
- 26:36Speaker 1: Smooth and he said a lot of things publicly about
- 26:40Speaker 1: pe Rock that to me suggested a new album would
- 26:44Speaker 1: never happen. And so when you fast forward now to
- 26:48Speaker 1: this Drink Champs interview and you hear and see O
- 26:51Speaker 1: Smooth express how much we should do, how him and
- 26:55Speaker 1: Pee Rock should do the project for the fans, and
- 26:59Speaker 1: the things that he's willing to do to do that
- 27:03Speaker 1: makes me skeptical because let's look at the landscape. Right,
- 27:08Speaker 1: For some people, they haven't seen Celsmove since the nineties. Now,
- 27:13Speaker 1: he've been around, He's released solo album or two, He's
- 27:17Speaker 1: been featured here and there on stuff, he's done interviews,
- 27:20Speaker 1: like I said, but there's some people who aren't so
- 27:23Speaker 1: locked in the hip hop to that like whatever happened
- 27:27Speaker 1: to CEO Smooth right. He Rock, on the other hand,
- 27:30Speaker 1: felt like he disappeared, but he really didn't. He did
- 27:34Speaker 1: a lot of production on the low. He did a
- 27:35Speaker 1: couple of albums with people like Smith and Wentston and
- 27:39Speaker 1: most recently sky Zoo and Smoke Dizzer, but it always
- 27:44Speaker 1: felt like he was on the low. Like he was
- 27:47Speaker 1: still around, but he was kind of on the low
- 27:49Speaker 1: producing for underground artists. Now, Pete Rod does an album
- 27:55Speaker 1: with Common, and Common's celebrity profile is much much bigger
- 28:01Speaker 1: than anybody he's ever collaborated with, including cl Smooth, which
- 28:07Speaker 1: means because of Commons music profile, right, because of Common
- 28:15Speaker 1: the actor profile. Remember he did win an Oscar and
- 28:19Speaker 1: what an Oscar and not an Emmy. I forget the
- 28:24Speaker 1: other award, but a Grammy Oscar and a Grammy for
- 28:29Speaker 1: a song that I thought really wasn't his greatest, But
- 28:31Speaker 1: I get it. His profile is so much bigger than
- 28:38Speaker 1: underground rapping or you know, we love him, but most
- 28:41Speaker 1: people don't know of him. Common is well known now,
- 28:44Speaker 1: so when he releases music, there's way more people checking
- 28:47Speaker 1: for And now he's releasing a full on hip hop
- 28:52Speaker 1: style album with Pete Rock and they get they're getting
- 28:57Speaker 1: flowers for it, like it's in my top five of
- 29:00Speaker 1: the year without a doubt. They have a tour going,
- 29:05Speaker 1: Pete Rock saying he hadn't been on tour in decades. Right,
- 29:11Speaker 1: that's one thing they got going for them. Then now
- 29:13Speaker 1: they're starting to get nominated, right, BT Awards nominated them.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's not gonna end there. I guarantee
- 29:20Speaker 1: you they're gonna get a Grammy nomination for that album.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I guarantee you that's gonna be it. It's going. I
- 29:26Speaker 1: don't know if they're gonna win, but they're definitely gonna
- 29:28Speaker 1: get the nomination. So Pete Rock is like breathing again
- 29:36Speaker 1: because Bete Wise, he ain't fall off at all. You
- 29:39Speaker 1: listen to the Auditorium Volume one, I'm more enamored with
- 29:43Speaker 1: the beats than Commons rhymes Half the time. I gotta
- 29:46Speaker 1: go back and just listen to see what comment say
- 29:50Speaker 1: I missed because I just love the production so much.
- 29:55Speaker 1: So this is where Pete Rock is right. He's on
- 29:58Speaker 1: Drink Champs and all like he is basically taking a
- 30:01Speaker 1: victory lap tour. And not only is the price going
- 30:05Speaker 1: up for Pete Rock, but he gonna get calls now.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And he was getting calls from the underground, but now
- 30:11Speaker 1: they're more high pro file artists who may be looking like, well,
- 30:18Speaker 1: I want a Pete Rock beat, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:19Speaker 1: So he going to get a lot of business. Why
- 30:23Speaker 1: would he do a Pete Rock and Seale Smooth album
- 30:27Speaker 1: right now? I don't think he would, especially because him
- 30:34Speaker 1: in Common as a duo have now set a tone.
- 30:39Speaker 1: If he goes back and does an album with Seal
- 30:44Speaker 1: Smooth before he does another one with Common, that would
- 30:47Speaker 1: be the wrong move because as much as you the
- 30:52Speaker 1: fans would like to think, who wouldn't want to peat
- 30:55Speaker 1: and cel album? I wanted it before this, I'm enjoint now.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I don't think he can go back after decades of
- 31:05Speaker 1: not even making music together because he's already filled that
- 31:09Speaker 1: void with Common. Comment is now his cl and it's
- 31:16Speaker 1: been way more I don't want the words not lucrative,
- 31:21Speaker 1: but it's been way more fruitful for him in his career,
- 31:25Speaker 1: especially today because of the exposure that Common brings to
- 31:29Speaker 1: him and his production with this project. So I think,
- 31:34Speaker 1: honestly what he should do is Auditorium Volume two and
- 31:41Speaker 1: maybe a Volume three and then break from Common and
- 31:45Speaker 1: whatever else comes after that. That could be I and
- 31:49Speaker 1: I'm announcing a Pete Rock and see a smooth final album,
- 31:55Speaker 1: complete the complete the trilogy. I'll take that. But that
- 32:00Speaker 1: can't happen now. That has to happen way down the line,
- 32:03Speaker 1: and we have to see what happens with Common and
- 32:06Speaker 1: Pete Rock, like it may just get to the point
- 32:09Speaker 1: where we don't want to hear nothing else. Right. The
- 32:14Speaker 1: only person, honestly who I would want him to work
- 32:17Speaker 1: with on a full album because of his production and
- 32:21Speaker 1: how in the pocket he is is not but Nas
- 32:25Speaker 1: is supposedly working with Prima on the album. So I
- 32:28Speaker 1: think what that interview did for CL it made him
- 32:33Speaker 1: look desperate. Now. I know he said a lot of
- 32:36Speaker 1: things and he's saying how he could be a man
- 32:38Speaker 1: and blah blah blah blah blah, But a lot of
- 32:40Speaker 1: things he was saying in the past were extremely immature,
- 32:45Speaker 1: extremely immature and angry, right, and he just seems angry
- 32:53Speaker 1: even when he's not angry, he seems like he's holding
- 32:55Speaker 1: on to anger. And I think he needs this Pete
- 33:01Speaker 1: Rock and See a smooth album more than Pete Rock
- 33:04Speaker 1: needs it. Especially now Again, before the Common link up,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been I would have probably been excited
- 33:13Speaker 1: for a Pete and CL album, But now that Pete
- 33:16Speaker 1: Rocket has done this for Common, and it's just so
- 33:19Speaker 1: dope the way everything is playing out. Nah, Man, you
- 33:24Speaker 1: don't need CL. You don't need it because you couldn't
- 33:29Speaker 1: even support it at this point. What would be the
- 33:32Speaker 1: point If you can't really put a lot of energy
- 33:35Speaker 1: behind the release, that would just be another beef, you
- 33:38Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Even if he sent CL all right,
- 33:42Speaker 1: let's start working on this album, blah blah blah, I
- 33:45Speaker 1: just think it wouldn't turn out well because they can't,
- 33:49Speaker 1: you know, get together and decide what is Pete Rock
- 33:53Speaker 1: and Seel Smooth today and then work together. Pete Rock
- 33:56Speaker 1: and Common did that, and that's why we got the album.
- 34:00Speaker 1: That's why we got the tour we got. Like Pete
- 34:04Speaker 1: Rock and Seal Smooth is just people just want to
- 34:08Speaker 1: hear hear those names again, want to hear Pete Rock say,
- 34:13Speaker 1: They want to hear cl Smooth say. It's a nostalgia thing.
- 34:16Speaker 1: But too much time has passed where I'm just not
- 34:20Speaker 1: as interested. I'm more interested in hearing another album would
- 34:23Speaker 1: come in in Pete Rock now again. If this was
- 34:29Speaker 1: closer to the nineties, I would be hungry for one,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but everything that's occurred since then, especially the beef. Even
- 34:38Speaker 1: if there wasn't no beef then I'd probably think more.
- 34:41Speaker 1: But you gotta wait now, cl because Pete Rock is
- 34:45Speaker 1: on a roll and I can see him producing for
- 34:48Speaker 1: a couple of people like, oh, Pete Rock gotta beat
- 34:50Speaker 1: on Kendrick Atum, pe Pete Rod gotta beat over here,
- 34:52Speaker 1: like I could see you gotta let the wave, got
- 34:56Speaker 1: to let the wave happen. You can't step in there, Hey,
- 34:59Speaker 1: well put this out. No, we're putting this out. We're
- 35:03Speaker 1: not going back, so we'll see it's and again. I
- 35:07Speaker 1: know some of y'all can't hear criticism without a meaning.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Cel Smooth his whack. I don't think he's whack. I don't.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I'm just nostalgia. I just I'm just nostalgic for what was.
- 35:21Speaker 1: But it was so long ago, and Pete Rock has
- 35:26Speaker 1: something booming right now that I don't think he needs
- 35:29Speaker 1: to take a break in order to do that, just
- 35:31Speaker 1: because I want to feel nostalgic again. Nows in Premier
- 35:37Speaker 1: Doctor Dreams, Snoop coming out, HAVG and Method Man. There's
- 35:40Speaker 1: a lot more nostalgia on the WANG, so Pete and
- 35:43Speaker 1: cl I could wait long, or if it never happened,
- 35:47Speaker 1: I wouldn't even be mad. So what do you think?
- 35:50Speaker 1: Do you want a Pete Rock and Seal Smooth album
