- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks. It'd be
- 0:12Speaker 1: follow this and a wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio. Now.
- 0:16Speaker 2: There's a little bit of criticism today of this week's
- 0:18Speaker 2: Micheline Awards. Micheline trained chef Jack Crossing posted on Facebook
- 0:23Speaker 2: that the awards were a quote absolute joke and that
- 0:25Speaker 2: the list looked like a list of places where the
- 0:27Speaker 2: cool people eat. Jack is with us now, Hijack, Yeah,
- 0:31Speaker 2: that's go. I'm very well, thank you. Why do you
- 0:33Speaker 2: say they were an absolute joke?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Okay, So I want to just clarify a couple of
- 0:39Speaker 3: things before before anything. So obviously a supporter very much,
- 0:44Speaker 3: you know Michelin coming to New Zealand, and I really
- 0:49Speaker 3: think it's good for the industry, really really good for
- 0:51Speaker 3: international recognition. Is I'm super happy for all Chef's restaurant
- 0:57Speaker 3: owners sontov Ausa so many years a the Deserver and
- 1:04Speaker 3: and again I'm very happy about that. My post was
- 1:08Speaker 3: obviously very direct with some sarcasm in data, but the
- 1:14Speaker 3: point that I wanted to make was that because those events, uh,
- 1:19Speaker 3: this event is probably once in a lifetime event for
- 1:24Speaker 3: for chefs and for operator. I don't think it was
- 1:29Speaker 3: delivered in a way where you expect Michelena do.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So you criticizing the ceremony, the way that it was,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the way that.
- 1:40Speaker 3: The a little bit of everything, a little bit of
- 1:43Speaker 3: from from the selection of of of of the restaurant
- 1:47Speaker 3: award that felt like very disconnected and I don't know
- 1:53Speaker 3: quite yeah, and with with with with some some some
- 2:00Speaker 3: restaurants left out, some others included. There was really and.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Which restaurant would you have given a star too? That
- 2:09Speaker 2: didn't get a star?
- 2:12Speaker 3: I'm not going into that because again I don't wanna.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I don't want to blame and Shama who got them
- 2:17Speaker 3: out or who like I don't want to get in
- 2:19Speaker 3: that conversation because I can be it can come like quite.
- 2:24Speaker 2: As I mean, if fair enough. If I was to
- 2:27Speaker 2: ask you who got a star that shouldn't have got
- 2:29Speaker 2: a star, that would be fair. But I'm asking you
- 2:30Speaker 2: who didn't get a start? Who should have got a start?
- 2:32Speaker 2: Like would you have given a start at onslot?
- 2:36Speaker 3: Again, I don't wanna. I don't want to mention individual one.
- 2:39Speaker 3: There is a there is a probably a bunch of
- 2:41Speaker 3: of restaurants and who dines out, who is in the industry,
- 2:45Speaker 3: who knows the hospitality industry, they probably know exactly what
- 2:50Speaker 3: I'm talking about. I don't want to again mention individuals
- 2:53Speaker 3: because I don't think it's fair. My opinion on on
- 2:58Speaker 3: the selection that was unconsistent, inconsistent like in a way
- 3:05Speaker 3: where if miche Lana is the benchmark, we we want
- 3:10Speaker 3: to see and be questioned, like how the stars that
- 3:13Speaker 3: are communicated?
- 3:14Speaker 2: What proportion of the restaurants that got stars should not
- 3:18Speaker 2: have got stars in your opinion.
- 3:22Speaker 3: It's not just the stars. I'm talking about the big
- 3:25Speaker 3: govermand as well and the and the selection in general.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And again like everyone that got like stars at the
- 3:31Speaker 3: Deserver and they did a great job. But my my
- 3:34Speaker 3: comment was around the consistency and how some some restaurant
- 3:41Speaker 3: was was chosen and some other were not h And
- 3:44Speaker 3: again I'm not talking about my my best friend the
- 3:47Speaker 3: restaurant or my favorite restaurant, and I'm just ranking or ranging.
- 3:51Speaker 3: It's it's I don't know that there were few few
- 3:56Speaker 3: players left out for the reasons that you know, many
- 4:02Speaker 3: people don't understand our questioning.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Okay, Jack, thanks very much, appreciate it. Jack Crossty, Micheline
- 4:06Speaker 2: try and shaf formerly of Me learned they root in Auckland.
