- 0:00SPEAKER_00: During this sound journey I will be throwing generic insults at you and you will practice the art of responding like a stoic sage.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: First, let's recap the seven strategies you can use to respond to insults.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Number one ask if it's true.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: If it is true, why be annoyed by something that's self evident?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: If it's not true, why be annoyed by what's not true?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: two ask if the insulter is ignorant and if they are, perhaps you need to educate them rather than be offended.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: three, ask if the insulter is someone you respect.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: If so, then their insult is good feedback.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: If not, then you have done well to be insulted by them.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: four.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Ask if the insulter has emotional difficulties, and if you should instead show them pity and compassion rather than anger.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: five.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Ask if you have truly been harmed or if you have actually harmed yourself by allowing yourself to think you have been harmed.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: six.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Positively reinterpret the insult with humour.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: seven.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Embrace the insult, exaggerated to comic proportions and laugh it off.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Now I will provide you with some insults and a space after which for you to practice responding.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: You can respond in your mind or if you prefer, out loud.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: When it comes to choosing your response, just use whatever sting elimination strategy you want.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: You can practice others tomorrow.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: If you feel uncomfortable during this exercise, that's fine.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: With practice the discomfort will ease and your resilience will increase.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Remember, this is social Jedi training.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: None of the insults I say are directed specifically at you.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: We do this exercise so that if we encounter situations in real life where we get insulted, we will be able to handle that with much more wisdom and more tranquility.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Let's begin.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So you're the ugliest fucking thing I've ever seen.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: You know your body, that thing that your head is on, is really out of shape and it's kind of disgusting me.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I gotta say, right?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: You're really quite stupid, and it makes me laugh that you think you're actually like smart.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: You're not.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: You're really, really stupid.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Some of the ideas and beliefs you have, honestly, you are really have you ever taken an IQ test?

- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, okay.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And and you think that this is gonna make you suddenly like happy or like or what?
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: What are you aiming to do?
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: It's kind of pathetic.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Why are you reading?
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: That's really not gonna help you.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: You're you're already fucked up.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: You're a dork.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Nobody likes you.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Not really, like I mean, seriously, nobody likes you, not even your own parents like you.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So your breath stinks.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Get away from me, don't talk to me, go brush your teeth.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: You, my friend, are a waste of fresh air.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Can you stop breathing?
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Seriously, like you're taking up other people's valuable oxygen.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I don't think you have a creative bone in your body.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Your work looks like it was done by a ten year old.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Huh, you're into some really weird stuff, aren't you?
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Can you get away from me, please?

- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Just saying.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Have you ever been in any kind of, you know, like relationship with, you know, like an actual person or whatever?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Because my first impression of you was that like no one would really want you No one will ever love you because you're too weird, you're a freak.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Can you stop talking, please?
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: It's a your voice is going through me.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: You ever shut up?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: You're talking about all this stuff I'm not interested in.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Be quiet, please.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: You have uh awful fashion sense.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Your clothes are appalling.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: How can you think you look good?
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: You seem to think that you're like a good person, but you're not.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Like, I've seen you get angry many times.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I've seen you be rude to people.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: You think I'm bad, you're a lot worse, you just try to hide it more.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: That concludes the list of insults.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow, listen to this again and practice responding to each insult in a slightly different way.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: You've done some really good work here, some really good, uncomfortable work.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Now I recommend that you do something that will make you feel good and accepted and validated.
