- 1:48Hey, sis. Welcome back to another episode of Girl Date the Good Guy. It's your girl, Emily.
- 1:54We have been discussing discernment this week. Yesterday's episode was on discernment.
- 1:59Today's episode is going to be on discernment because I really want you guys
- 2:04to pick up what I'm putting down. You know what I mean?
- 2:08And today we're not diagnosing. We're discerning.
- 2:11Because the Bible already warns us, and here it is, says again,
- 2:16Matthew 7, 16, you will recognize them by their fruits.
- 2:20I cannot express to you how important this is to know someone by their fruit.
- 2:28This is why we don't rush into relationships. You know, this is why we take our time.
- 2:33It's a slow burn because it takes time for fruit to reveal itself. Here's the truth.
- 2:39The devil knows scripture.
- 2:42Performance is easy. Character is costly. So today we are walking through six
- 2:48biblical red flags that reveal when ego is leading, not the spirit.
- 2:53Number one, how he responds to intimacy.
- 2:59We're not talking about bedroom intimacy. We're talking about connection, real intimacy.
- 3:07Like sharing your heart, sharing your hurt, building trust, being known.
- 3:13A counterfeit cannot handle deep connection.
- 3:17When you open up, he may deflect, minimize, make it about him,
- 3:23shut down, change the subject. Why?
- 3:27Because vulnerability requires humility.
- 3:30And James 5.16 talks about confession and healing.
- 3:34Healthy people lean into mutual openness.
- 3:38So why does this matter? Because if he cannot handle emotional intimacy,
- 3:43he cannot handle covenant.
- 3:46He cannot handle it.
- 3:48Let's be real. The takeaway is a God-led man builds connection and a prideful man avoids exposure.
- 3:58Number two, how he responds to correction. Thank you.
- 4:03This one's important. This one's really important.
- 4:07Constructive feedback is normal in healthy relationships.
- 4:11But when you bring something up, does he perceive it as an attack,
- 4:17flip it back on you, turn into the victim, leave you apologizing when you did nothing wrong?
- 4:25Proverbs 12.1 says this, Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
- 4:32but whoever hates correction is stupid.
- 4:36Strong word, but clear. The ego cannot tolerate criticism.
- 4:42The spirit produces humility.
- 4:44And why does this matter? Because if he can dish it out but can't take it, that is immaturity.
- 4:52Your takeaway is, if he cannot be corrected, he cannot be trusted with your
- 4:58heart. And I want to add this.
- 5:00When I mean correcting, I mean correcting with love.
- 5:05You're able to have a normal, healthy conversation expressing something that
- 5:14maybe he has done or that he does that you feel he could work on or that you have concerns about.
- 5:23And he's able to come back in a healthy way and respond.
- 5:29It's a healthy dialogue, and you're both able to give constructive criticism to each other.
- 5:36Not yelling, not screaming, none of that.
- 5:41Healthy, calm. Everybody's calm here.
- 5:45You might get a little bit, you know, agitated a little bit,
- 5:48but nobody's screaming or yelling or calling names.
- 5:51Because the truth is, real intimacy with someone that you love,
- 5:57that you truly love, that both of your hearts are turned towards God,
- 6:01you don't want to hurt one another with ugly words or yelling or screaming.
- 6:06It should be a healthy, beautiful, calm connection.
- 6:11Number three, pride dominates his conversations.
- 6:17So pay attention to his language. Is it always me, my, I?
- 6:23Does he constantly need admiration?
- 6:26Does he need you impressed? Does he talk about his accomplishments nonstop, but dismiss yours?
- 6:33Healthy people celebrate your wins
- 6:36and philippians 2 3 says
- 6:40do nothing from selfish ambition and humility
- 6:43count others more significant than yourselves a spirit-led man makes room for
- 6:50mutual dialogue come on sis and why does this matter because pride suffocates
- 6:56partnership and the takeaway is if his ego fills the room, there's no space for you in it.
- 7:03Number four, how he responds to your needs.
- 7:07Does he ask how you're doing, follow up on previous conversations,
- 7:13show real compassion, or does everything revolve around him?
- 7:20Scripture calls us to put others first, Just like we said, Philippians 2.4.
- 7:25Counterfeit empathy sounds good, but feels empty. You can dote on him, support him, serve him.
- 7:34He will take advantage, grow annoyed, feel entitled, never truly appreciate it.
- 7:42And I just want to add this real quick about getting annoyed.
- 7:45My boyfriend gets annoyed with me. Believe me, sometimes I have to talk about
- 7:49the same thing two or three times, and he'll be like, oh, Emily, you know, but that's it.
- 7:56And then we continue discussing whatever the subject is that we need to discuss
- 8:02or that I'm wanting to discuss with him.
- 8:05And so when I say getting annoyed, like he gets so annoyed that you just don't
- 8:12even want to finish the conversation. Okay?
- 8:16So if, you know, he's feeling entitled, if he never truly appreciates you doting
- 8:24on him and supporting and serving him,
- 8:26like my guy's always telling me thank you and how much he appreciates me and
- 8:31how thankful he is to have me in his life because of our true connection, our healthy,
- 8:38loving connection that we have and how much I support him and lift him up and love him, okay?
- 8:45So, because most of the time, toxic people, if they're giving,
- 8:51is often because they have a motive, all right?
- 8:54So you really have to watch their actions, right?
- 9:01So why does it matter? A God-led man values equality, compassion,
- 9:06and care. They really do, sis.
- 9:09These other toxic guys, they don't. There's a motive behind it.
- 9:15Their heart's not right.
- 9:17Run. Run, sis, run. Anyway, so your takeaway is, if your needs always come second,
- 9:25that is not Christ-like love, sis. He should be concerned about you and your needs and what you need.
- 9:32You really are that important. Don't forget that.
- 9:37Number five, accountability is impossible.
- 9:41He cannot be held accountable. He cannot be responsible.
- 9:45He cannot be held responsible. He plays the blame game.
- 9:49Every failure, your fault. Every conflict, your fault. Every issue, your tone. Come on, sis.
- 9:57A guy should be able to have a conversation with you. If you're a little upset and you're crying.
- 10:03You know, he should want to fix that for you because you're hurting,
- 10:08not like blame you for everything. It's your fault.
- 10:13Everything's your fault, right? Like, no.
- 10:17Like, it's okay to have a conflict. It's okay to have an issue.
- 10:22He should want to hear you and love you through that, okay?
- 10:28The other thing is there's no repentance no ownership
- 10:31no i was wrong so if a
- 10:35guy cannot say he's sorry or repent
- 10:39and when i say repent meaning
- 10:42saying he's sorry to you and genuinely meaning
- 10:46that like i take ownership of what i just did and i am sorry i was wrong run
- 10:53because no ma'am not today sir right because scripture calls believers to humility and repentance.
- 11:04A counterfeit will weaponize guilt and shame to always regain control.
- 11:10All right, so why does this matter? Because without accountability, there is no growth.
- 11:15And your takeaway is, if he never takes responsibility, he will never change this.
- 11:22Because it's first being able to own up to your own stuff.
- 11:27I messed up. I did this. I want to make this right. Okay?
- 11:31All right, number six. the biggest clue. You ready? This is the biggest clue, sis.
- 11:39Instability. You never get the same person twice. His mood shifts.
- 11:46His energy shifts. The ground is constantly moving.
- 11:51One day warm, next day cold. You start people-pleasing to avoid triggering him.
- 11:57You become anxious and,
- 12:00That is not peace. God is not unstable, okay? The fruit of the Spirit includes self-control.
- 12:08Galatians 5, 22 through 23. If he studies your pain points just to trigger you, that is manipulation.
- 12:15If he provokes you until you react, then sits back calmly and says,
- 12:21see, you're the crazy one, that is not leadership.
- 12:25That is control, straight up.
- 12:28So why does this matter? because instability keeps you off balance so he stays in control.
- 12:35My guy, consistent all the time.
- 12:38You know, I mean, there's days and weekends where he's really tired,
- 12:41and I get it, and he works a lot, but he's never mean or moody or hateful towards me ever, you know?
- 12:50So there are times where he's really happy.
- 12:53He's in a great mood, but we all have those things. What I'm talking about is
- 12:58the type of person where you literally feel like you're walking on eggshells,
- 13:02like you don't know what you're going to get from this person one day to the next.
- 13:06Right. It's got to be healthy. Right.
- 13:10So your takeaway is if you never feel secure, something is spiritually off.
- 13:18Now for your royal reflection. Sis, when you bring your heart,
- 13:24your needs, your correction, or your boundaries, does he respond with humility and stability?
- 13:31Or ego and instability?
- 13:35Does his confession of Christ match his character under pressure?
- 13:40Fruit is revealed in conflict, not compliments.
- 13:46So so give some criticism some
- 13:50constructive criticism with love and see how
- 13:53he reacts and i always when i come to my honey i'm always
- 13:56like honey can we talk about something you know
- 13:59and then i will address it and he listens and then
- 14:02we work through it sis if this episode gave
