- 0:09Hello there, and welcome to a mental health moment from the
- 0:11Life Live Better podcast. This is the place where we take
- 0:14just a couple of moments to care for our minds.
- 0:17I'm Paula, and today we're talking about something that
- 0:19might be a little uncomfortable to acknowledge, but it is still
- 0:23really important. And that is the fact that
- 0:26healing requires accountability. Now, let's start here.
- 0:32What happened to us matters. Our experiences matter.
- 0:38Our pain is valid. And many of the things that
- 0:41we've gone through were not our fault.
- 0:44But what we do next is our responsibility.
- 0:51And that's where accountability comes in.
- 0:54Because healing isn't just about understanding our past, it's
- 0:58about recognizing how that past might still be showing up in the
- 1:02present. Sometimes it shows up in how we
- 1:06react. Sometimes it shows up in how we
- 1:09communicate, in patterns that we repeat, in the walls that we put
- 1:14up, and and even in the ones that we don't.
- 1:17And here's the hard truth is, inside alone doesn't change our
- 1:22behavior. We can know why we do something
- 1:26and continue doing it. Accountability is the step where
- 1:30we begin to ask ourselves, how am I contributing to what's
- 1:34happening in my life right now? Not from a place of blaming
- 1:38ourself, but from a place of ownership.
- 1:42Because ownership is actually very empowering.
- 1:45It means that we aren't stuck waiting for other people to
- 1:48change. We're not waiting for the past
- 1:51to be different. We're recognizing that we have
- 1:55the ability to choose differently and move forward,
- 2:00and that can feel uncomfortable. It's much easier to stay in
- 2:04awareness than to move into action, to say this is just how
- 2:09I am instead of asking, is this still serving me or is it
- 2:13serving anybody else? Healing asks more of us than
- 2:17just reflection. It asks us to take
- 2:21responsibility, and that might look like apologizing when it's
- 2:25hard, setting boundaries instead of just avoiding the conflict,
- 2:30or even breaking patterns that feel familiar even when they're
- 2:34not healthy. So if you're in a place where
- 2:38you're doing the work of learning, growing, and becoming
- 2:41more aware, the next step might be gently asking yourself, what
- 2:47is mine to own here? Because healing doesn't just
- 2:50happen to us, it happens through us.
- 2:55The Life Live Better podcast thanks you for joining us for
- 2:59this mental health moment. And until next time, take care
- 3:02of your mind because it's the only one you've got.
