- 2:31Speaker 2: Metro News Meteorologies is Brian Hughes on airon online by
- 2:33Speaker 2: downloading the Metro New's television happened by following him on Facebook.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Coming up, big events Saturday, and it's indoors, which is good.
- 2:40Speaker 2: The annual Donna Elskin Senior expos Saturday of Benny KEATAM
- 2:44Speaker 2: in Charleston, nine to five. All kinds of stuff going
- 2:46Speaker 2: on there. We'll talk about that a little bit later on. Also,
- 2:50Speaker 2: a whole lot more people are coming to Charleston this weekend.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You thought that, you know, we had the USA Pro
- 2:55Speaker 2: road Bike Championships last week. Regatta next week, the America
- 2:59Speaker 2: two fifty Lebration Capital two fifty. Well, there's even more
- 3:03Speaker 2: coming this weekend. I'm going to tell you about that
- 3:05Speaker 2: coming up a little bit later on. But I'm going
- 3:06Speaker 2: to talk a little baseball now because the North South
- 3:09Speaker 2: baseball game is happening tomorrow, and we got with the
- 3:14Speaker 2: Shan Zaniga, who's with the City of South Charleston. Also
- 3:16Speaker 2: Mark Plants is with us as well. Good morning, and
- 3:18Speaker 2: welcome to the show. Guests. Thanks for having us. Good morning,
- 3:21Speaker 2: Dave and Marcus. Your first time ever on the air
- 3:23Speaker 2: with me, So I think it is all right, good morning.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm fully aware of you, know of your exploits over
- 3:28Speaker 2: the years. I said that like it was a bad thing.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I didn't mean like it was a exploits.
- 3:32Speaker 5: I know you.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Opinions very you're well, you're well known in the community.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'll say that. All right, let's talk about this big
- 3:39Speaker 2: baseball game. Shawn Able to start with you. This is
- 3:42Speaker 2: a pretty big deal. Of course, we just came off
- 3:44Speaker 2: the North South football games and the basketball games last
- 3:48Speaker 2: week and now we're going to play a little baseball
- 3:50Speaker 2: at South Charleston High School. Talk about that.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Sean, Yes, this is the first year at South Arleston's
- 3:56Speaker 6: hosting it. And it's Friday, June twenty sixth, and the
- 3:59Speaker 6: first game we'll start it three pm.
- 4:00Speaker 2: The second game starts at six pm. All right, And Mark,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I think your law firm is one of the sponsors
- 4:05Speaker 2: of this.
- 4:05Speaker 7: Is that?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yal?
- 4:06Speaker 8: Yep, we're happy to sponsor. We love that it's in
- 4:08Speaker 8: South Charleston. That's where my office is. And of course
- 4:11Speaker 8: one of the directors, Steve Krozier, was my high school coach.
- 4:14Speaker 8: So we kind of got everybody together and want to
- 4:16Speaker 8: just try to roll out the carpet for the players.
- 4:18Speaker 8: And of course Mayor Mallins always puts the players first,
- 4:22Speaker 8: and just without the city of South Charleston, this wouldn't
- 4:24Speaker 8: be possible.
- 4:25Speaker 2: South Charleston's kind of becoming to place, isn't it as
- 4:27Speaker 2: far as for these things, right, And we got a
- 4:28Speaker 2: lot of stuff going on in South Charleston. We'll talk
- 4:30Speaker 2: about them a little bit later on, including oh, that
- 4:33Speaker 2: little market that opened up over there, the small little market.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We'll talk about that a little bit later on. But Sean,
- 4:38Speaker 2: I know for you guys to have these events here
- 4:40Speaker 2: in Charleston's I said the events last week and this
- 4:42Speaker 2: one as well. It's a big deal for the city
- 4:44Speaker 2: of South Charleston.
- 4:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it really is. And then our biggest thing with
- 4:48Speaker 6: these events is we want to make sure everyone has
- 4:50Speaker 6: a great time and has a great experience in South Charleston.
- 4:53Speaker 2: All right, Mark, you and I were talking a little
- 4:55Speaker 2: bit in the green room about your days as an athlete.
- 4:58Speaker 2: You played in this game.
- 5:00Speaker 8: I did, and you know, and everybody remembers I was
- 5:02Speaker 8: a football player, you know, five different lifetimes ago. Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 8: you know, I was the surgeries probably luckily no no surgeries.
- 5:10Speaker 8: You know I had, I had, you know, so from
- 5:12Speaker 8: ninety five to two thousand, I played w as a
- 5:15Speaker 8: football player. Everybody kind of remembers me from that or
- 5:18Speaker 8: the prosecutor, like you know, when someone comes up to me,
- 5:20Speaker 8: I don't know if it's you know, how you're the
- 5:21Speaker 8: football player or you're the prosecutor or the criminal defense attorney.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Now.
- 5:26Speaker 8: But what a lot of people don't remember is and
- 5:28Speaker 8: I was also a baseball player. So not only that
- 5:30Speaker 8: I played in the North South game. And I was
- 5:32Speaker 8: first team All State as a junior and senior in
- 5:34Speaker 8: baseball and football, So four time first team off state.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I'm trying to figure out how you went through this
- 5:39Speaker 2: storied career. I never had any surgeries.
- 5:41Speaker 8: Just fortunate, I guess I've never never, never had a surgery,
- 5:46Speaker 8: and very fortunate, particularly you know, w yeah, I mean,
- 5:50Speaker 8: you know, we had a guy named Amos Airway. I
- 5:52Speaker 8: don't know if you all remember who that was lifetimes ago.
- 5:55Speaker 8: Both familiar, you know, pretty much. You know, I carried
- 5:57Speaker 8: the ball one or two times, and then Amy carried
- 6:00Speaker 8: the ball the first time, ran a sixty yard touchdown,
- 6:02Speaker 8: and I pretty much never got.
- 6:04Speaker 2: The ball again. It was just a which I can
- 6:06Speaker 2: kind understand talk about playing in these games, So what
- 6:09Speaker 2: it means for high school athletes to play in these games,
- 6:10Speaker 2: particularly those that are at the end of their of
- 6:14Speaker 2: their careers, so to speak.
- 6:15Speaker 8: It's a great experience to meet and compete against statewide talent.
- 6:20Speaker 8: And you know, we got sixty five seniors coming in
- 6:23Speaker 8: that are all all stars from all levels, all in
- 6:27Speaker 8: one place, and it's it's kind of one of those
- 6:29Speaker 8: situations where not only do you make some friends, but
- 6:33Speaker 8: you also get to size yourself up with other competition.
- 6:37Speaker 8: And it's a fun time. The kids are gonna have
- 6:40Speaker 8: a great time. We're gonna feed them, you know, we're
- 6:42Speaker 8: gonna come in Thursday. They're coming in tonight. They're gonna
- 6:45Speaker 8: have a practice from six to eight. South Charleston's gonna
- 6:48Speaker 8: feed them tomorrow. Like I said, the games, there's a
- 6:52Speaker 8: lunch in at noon and then the game's gonna schedule
- 6:56Speaker 8: to start at three and six, but because of the rain,
- 6:59Speaker 8: we might try to start little bit earlier. We want
- 7:00Speaker 8: to get down you know, it's a doubleheader. We want
- 7:02Speaker 8: all that.
- 7:03Speaker 2: They're all already going to be here, so we don't
- 7:05Speaker 2: worry about it.
- 7:05Speaker 8: Yeah, we don't want to We don't want to move it.
- 7:07Speaker 8: We want to try to get the game in. So
- 7:08Speaker 8: if we have to move it up to avoid the rain,
- 7:11Speaker 8: we will. And it's a doubleheader, so we're trying to
- 7:13Speaker 8: get all the players. You know, this is always about
- 7:16Speaker 8: the players, So we want to get them as much
- 7:18Speaker 8: playing time, as many as bats as possible. So we
- 7:21Speaker 8: want each of them to have time to get some games.
- 7:23Speaker 2: You know, last week in the midday show, guys, we
- 7:25Speaker 2: had a chance to talk to a couple of football
- 7:27Speaker 2: players that came in town, and there was one from
- 7:29Speaker 2: the North and one from the South. We had them
- 7:30Speaker 2: on the show at the same time and it was interesting,
- 7:33Speaker 2: you know, just talking to those and both of those
- 7:35Speaker 2: of most of those gentlemen are going on to play college ball,
- 7:38Speaker 2: which was good. I think one was playing it. I
- 7:40Speaker 2: know one was playing at Concord, and I think maybe
- 7:43Speaker 2: the other one was playing at Wesleyan. But but I
- 7:44Speaker 2: think it's it's just a great experience for them to
- 7:47Speaker 2: be able to play. I tell you what I remember.
- 7:49Speaker 8: I'll tell you what I honestly, you know, I'm I'm
- 7:51Speaker 8: forty nine, so I don't remember the game.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 7:55Speaker 8: But what I do remember is the warm ups. You know,
- 7:58Speaker 8: you run in baseball, you run sixty yardes. Well, I
- 8:01Speaker 8: don't know if you all remember getting Bobby Howard. You know,
- 8:03Speaker 8: I grew up playing against Rady Moss, Bobby Howard, those guys.
- 8:06Speaker 8: So in this North South baseball game, he would plea
- 8:09Speaker 8: played in the North South and we got the race
- 8:11Speaker 8: against each other in the sixty yard dash at the
- 8:13Speaker 8: same time. So that's the kind of you know, you're
- 8:15Speaker 8: playing against other players that you've heard of, and you
- 8:18Speaker 8: get to walk on the same field and just compete
- 8:21Speaker 8: those to those with them. It's something that you just
- 8:23Speaker 8: remember even when you're old, fat and balled in forty
- 8:25Speaker 8: nine and you're.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Still talking about well, and I think too. You got
- 8:28Speaker 2: to remember, you know, I mentioned the reference the two
- 8:31Speaker 2: young athletes that we interviewed last week. I mean, both
- 8:33Speaker 2: those guys are going to be fortunate enough in football
- 8:35Speaker 2: to go play somewhere else. But for some of these
- 8:37Speaker 2: athletes just might be, you know, the last time that
- 8:39Speaker 2: they play other than maybe a pickup. Maybe baseball is
- 8:41Speaker 2: a little different, you know, but but there's a possibility
- 8:44Speaker 2: that just maybe the last time some of them play,
- 8:46Speaker 2: at least in an organized event like that and that
- 8:49Speaker 2: and that means something. I'm sure you remember your last
- 8:51Speaker 2: game wherever it was, and uh, it's it's a lifetime
- 8:54Speaker 2: memory for that's true.
- 8:55Speaker 8: And again, my last baseball game was the North South
- 8:57Speaker 8: Baseball game all those years ago, and it really is
- 9:01Speaker 8: at some point and when you're particularly you know, in
- 9:04Speaker 8: this all star category where you're getting selected for scholarship,
- 9:07Speaker 8: you're getting selected for the North South game. I don't
- 9:10Speaker 8: care what anybody says. In your heart, if you're a player,
- 9:12Speaker 8: you want to play at the next level, right you're
- 9:14Speaker 8: always thinking about and you're hoping against hope you get
- 9:17Speaker 8: that opportunity. But sooner or later, we all have to
- 9:20Speaker 8: put our cleats on the wall. And whether it's you know,
- 9:22Speaker 8: whether it's out of high school, college or professional and
- 9:25Speaker 8: that's a that's a transition. Some people make it, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 8: making a positive thing. Some people don't. But it is
- 9:31Speaker 8: a special moment.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Talking again with Mark Plants and Shawn Zun again, we'll
- 9:34Speaker 2: get back to the baseball giving him to Shawn. I
- 9:36Speaker 2: want to ask you, it's been a big, a big
- 9:38Speaker 2: week for the city of South charlest not only the
- 9:42Speaker 2: sporting events last week, but but you open up that
- 9:45Speaker 2: big old Kroger this week. How's that guy? Have you
- 9:48Speaker 2: been in there at Mark?
- 9:48Speaker 8: I was there, I was I was there this morning.
- 9:51Speaker 8: My wife worked for the city, and of course, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 8: so I'm from south. South Charleston is center of the
- 9:56Speaker 8: universe to me, so you know, I mean, obviously everybody
- 9:59Speaker 8: knows we got the great you know, the best services,
- 10:01Speaker 8: the best youth sports. I mean, it's in my opinion
- 10:04Speaker 8: because that's where I'm from. Yeah, and the older I get,
- 10:07Speaker 8: the more I want to get back home and make
- 10:09Speaker 8: things like it used to be when I grew up.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So, yeah, there was a bunch of people Kroger's. I
- 10:13Speaker 2: stopped by, I.
- 10:14Speaker 8: Got I didn't know they were giving out ten dollars
- 10:16Speaker 8: gifts card. I couldn't believe how many people were there.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And I don't just mean like the.
- 10:20Speaker 8: Normal hey, you know the normal crowd that shows up.
- 10:24Speaker 8: There were I don't know how many hundreds of people
- 10:25Speaker 8: there that were in line to get in and walk around.
- 10:28Speaker 2: To cut the ribbon. I think it's seven thirty yesterday morning?
- 10:30Speaker 9: Was that righty?
- 10:31Speaker 2: He opened up at eight? How how did everything go?
- 10:33Speaker 2: I mean with this one, because it's well, it's what
- 10:35Speaker 2: everybody's talking about on the internet.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Yeah, just like Mark seven.
- 10:37Speaker 6: The line was down the building out the back for
- 10:40Speaker 6: people to get in. It was it was. It was
- 10:42Speaker 6: just nice to see everyone excited about it. And you know,
- 10:45Speaker 6: it's it's really special for South tross and you know,
- 10:48Speaker 6: not only South Charleston Rassen's, but for the Kanaw Valley
- 10:51Speaker 6: as well well, and even beyond that.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I mean I had a chance a couple of days
- 10:54Speaker 2: ago to interview the marketing guy, uh there, James Manize
- 10:58Speaker 2: for Kroger. I viewed him twice as a matter of fact,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and he talked about this and this is something that's
- 11:03Speaker 2: in the feather in the cap of the entire Kanal Valley,
- 11:06Speaker 2: especially the city of South Charleston. Is there's no other
- 11:09Speaker 2: Kroger location like this in the state of West Virginia.
- 11:12Speaker 2: He said that we may have some you know later,
- 11:14Speaker 2: but this is the only one that you can come
- 11:15Speaker 2: in and get your grocery Adams, but you can also
- 11:18Speaker 2: get furniture. You can also get clothing items and all
- 11:21Speaker 2: these other things.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Anson Mary cheese.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of cheese and a lot of sushi.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You had me at cheese and sushi on both of us.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I also, I want to just quickly mention last week
- 11:31Speaker 2: I talked about how South Charleston has been, as Mark said,
- 11:33Speaker 2: kind of like the center of the universe. You guys
- 11:35Speaker 2: had the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame event on Sunday,
- 11:38Speaker 2: your garden party, our sister station ninety eight to seven,
- 11:41Speaker 2: the mounth And was live, and it was it was
- 11:43Speaker 2: a great event for South Charleston.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it was a great It's a great turnout, great event.
- 11:48Speaker 6: The music was a great We're looking forward to having
- 11:51Speaker 6: it next year as well. So it seemed like everyone
- 11:54Speaker 6: kind of had a great time.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Well, first time you know, the first time you host
- 11:58Speaker 2: some you never know how it's going to go. And
- 11:59Speaker 2: you learn what you did right, what you did wrong.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But everything that I was told, according to Shockley, our
- 12:04Speaker 2: guy that was out there for the Mountain, everything couldn't
- 12:06Speaker 2: have gone better. Yeah. Yeah, And you got another big
- 12:09Speaker 2: event for seniors at the Farmers' market come up tomorrow.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Yes, right, tomorrow, from nine to twelve, we have a
- 12:16Speaker 6: Senior Market Day. And kind of what that is is
- 12:18Speaker 6: the Canaw Valley Service that's going to come out and
- 12:19Speaker 6: hand out with senior vouchers. We got some other places
- 12:23Speaker 6: come a WU Medicine, the library coming out to offer
- 12:26Speaker 6: what resources they have.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And now how often do you do is this every friday?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Of you you do this or this?
- 12:32Speaker 2: This is just once a year, once a year, So seniors,
- 12:35Speaker 2: you need to matter of fact, the next segment, we're'd
- 12:37Speaker 2: be talking to the people about the Senior Expo. So
- 12:40Speaker 2: on your way out the door, make sure you guys
- 12:42Speaker 2: kind of crossed that and they can tell you about that.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And then what time is that event tomorrow?
- 12:45Speaker 6: It's from nine to twelve, all right, Marke.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Let's get back to the baseball game, and it's a doubleheader.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Right, it's a.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Doubleheader again starting at three and six.
- 12:53Speaker 8: It's ten dollars cash covers, the whole day of getting
- 12:56Speaker 8: in free parking, have concession stands there, and you know
- 12:59Speaker 8: it might be your last time. You know, if you're
- 13:01Speaker 8: like me, the one thing about baseball season you love
- 13:04Speaker 8: is hot dogs. I'm a hot dog car story.
- 13:06Speaker 5: So you know what I mean.
- 13:07Speaker 8: You gotta have the right chili and the right coleslaw
- 13:09Speaker 8: and we'll be homemade, that whole thing.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So it might be your last chance. You got a
- 13:12Speaker 2: hot dog. You can tell you're a West Virginia boy
- 13:13Speaker 2: because and you're from Parkersburg, South you know, because you
- 13:17Speaker 2: said slaw in chili and you didn't call it sauce
- 13:20Speaker 2: and you called it chili. My man, my man, I
- 13:23Speaker 2: mentioned all the time, my wife is from Chicago. That
- 13:25Speaker 2: is a totally different kind of hot dog out there.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But they're still good. But there's nothing nothing like a
- 13:30Speaker 2: West Virginia not like nothing, No, I got it. So
- 13:32Speaker 2: what happens if it's a double header. What happens if
- 13:35Speaker 2: like the because it's what in the north side, what
- 13:37Speaker 2: if the north winds one in the south wind one?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Then what happened?
- 13:40Speaker 8: I think they'll both go away maybe a little happier.
- 13:43Speaker 8: I'm a little sad. I'm not sure.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I think you're gonna have years of back and forth
- 13:47Speaker 2: on Facebook and on Twitter about who who is the
- 13:50Speaker 2: better team? You know, maybe you just play like one
- 13:52Speaker 2: inning after that, just to see.
- 13:55Speaker 8: Break we'll do a home run.

- 17:47Speaker 12: Good morning. How are you?
- 17:48Speaker 2: I'm doing fun? All right? First of all, I got
- 17:50Speaker 2: to ask you, Jenna Skeen, have you ever been on
- 17:52Speaker 2: the show before to talk about this? I have no Okay,
- 17:55Speaker 2: scoot that microphone over to you a little bit there,
- 17:56Speaker 2: there you go. All right. So, but it's called the
- 17:59Speaker 2: Donna el Skien Senior Expo. Your name happened to be Skim.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I'm
- 18:07Speaker 2: saying there's got to be a connection here.
- 18:09Speaker 12: There is definitely a connection. Yes, Donna was my mother.
- 18:13Speaker 12: She was a big proponent in the community, big advocate
- 18:19Speaker 12: for many different people in the community.
- 18:21Speaker 1: So, yes, that was my mother.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Kind of lady was your mom? If you don't mind,
- 18:24Speaker 2: I'm not trying to make you cheer up here, but
- 18:26Speaker 2: what kind of lady was your mom?
- 18:27Speaker 9: No?
- 18:27Speaker 12: I love talking about my mom, so thank you. She
- 18:31Speaker 12: was just an amazing person. I don't know any other
- 18:35Speaker 12: word that I can think of that would encompass my mother.
- 18:38Speaker 12: She was kind, She was I would go as far
- 18:43Speaker 12: as to say, a saint on this earth. She just
- 18:47Speaker 12: loved people, and she wanted to make everyone feel seen
- 18:50Speaker 12: and loved, and especially the aged and disabled community in
- 18:55Speaker 12: West Virginia, because we're West Virginia's often forgot in many things,
- 18:59Speaker 12: but even more so in that realm. So she just
- 19:03Speaker 12: really wanted to make those people feel loved and seen
- 19:08Speaker 12: and important.
- 19:10Speaker 2: And that's why this is named after her.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yes, right, Ray here, I appreciate you being here. What's
- 19:16Speaker 2: your involvement with this?
- 19:17Speaker 13: So I'm with Boom Moral Health and we're really excited
- 19:20Speaker 13: to be coming back to the expo this year. We're
- 19:24Speaker 13: going to be sending several folks from our team doing
- 19:27Speaker 13: several different things. We're going to have lab work available
- 19:30Speaker 13: on site. We will have our market on Maine. This
- 19:33Speaker 13: is our farmer's market in Greenhouse. We're going to have
- 19:35Speaker 13: our market folks there with some healthy and local food
- 19:39Speaker 13: resources and information, as well as our population health team
- 19:43Speaker 13: and so we'll have blood pressure screening, healthy food samples,
- 19:46Speaker 13: diabetes education display lots of different things to help out
- 19:51Speaker 13: the folks who need it.
- 19:51Speaker 2: And this is all going to be at the Benny
- 19:53Speaker 2: Keatam Shrine, which is next to the Kylo Sema Convention
- 19:55Speaker 2: Center in Charleston. Jim Strawn is here. How you doing man?
- 19:58Speaker 3: And the best I've ever been thanking Dave?
- 20:00Speaker 2: How are you my friend? I'm don't be talking to
- 20:01Speaker 2: you tomorrow.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I guess I'll lobby by tomorrow for the Moses Outer
- 20:04Speaker 3: Group LIB on the levee. But yeah, I'm excited about you,
- 20:07Speaker 3: asked Jenna if she was on last year to talk aboutiness.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I think I snuck in and we kind of we
- 20:12Speaker 3: kind of hold hold on.
- 20:13Speaker 2: You snuck in somewhere where there was a microphone I.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Found, I found I started talking about the levee, but
- 20:20Speaker 3: we also started talking about the Donna l Skin Senior Expo,
- 20:24Speaker 3: you know, and Donna started loved Ones years ago, and
- 20:28Speaker 3: now Jenna is the president of loved Ones, a home
- 20:31Speaker 3: health agency that treats folks in their home in about
- 20:36Speaker 3: thirty three counties in West Virginia. And Jenna's doing an
- 20:40Speaker 3: out standing job and wanted to bring this expo to
- 20:43Speaker 3: the community and named it after her.
- 20:45Speaker 7: Mother.
- 20:45Speaker 3: So I've been working with loved Ones and I'm on
- 20:48Speaker 3: the expot committee and it's just been a neat thing
- 20:51Speaker 3: for me to follow. I'm actually a senior at myself.
- 20:54Speaker 3: We've talked about this. I'm on Medicare. And it's not
- 20:57Speaker 3: just for the seniors and all the great services that
- 20:59Speaker 3: were off bringing all the wonderful information that we're going
- 21:02Speaker 3: to have there, but it's for folks maybe in the
- 21:06Speaker 3: Sandwich generation, maybe the folks who are in there thirty
- 21:09Speaker 3: to forty to fifty taking care of their moms.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And they're very good point because sometimes we forget about that.
- 21:15Speaker 3: And so there's a lots of information for you sons
- 21:19Speaker 3: and daughters who are taking care of your elderly parents.
- 21:22Speaker 3: And I think Donna started loved Ones. Correct me if
- 21:26Speaker 3: I'm wrong, Jenna, but she started loved Ones so that
- 21:28Speaker 3: folks could get the care in their home. They just
- 21:30Speaker 3: didn't want to go anywhere else. That wanted to stay
- 21:33Speaker 3: in their home, but they still needed some care and
- 21:35Speaker 3: some treatment. So loved Ones we started. This expo is
- 21:38Speaker 3: all about sharing those resources and finding that information. And
- 21:41Speaker 3: then last year I touched base with Ray, a good
- 21:43Speaker 3: friend of mine. I go Ray we really could use
- 21:46Speaker 3: some blood work and some other elderly expertise and what
- 21:49Speaker 3: you guys offer. He's like, yeah, I mean they didn't hesitate,
- 21:52Speaker 3: So it's wonderful to have a Boon Health Boonemorial Hospital there.
- 21:57Speaker 3: As he mentioned, they're going to be providing quite a
- 21:59Speaker 3: bit of the lab work, the blood work. They're going
- 22:02Speaker 3: to be doing cooking demonstrations on the stage. There's actually
- 22:05Speaker 3: a stage there at the Benning Keatam Temple as you
- 22:07Speaker 3: well know, Dave, and from nine o'clock in the morning
- 22:10Speaker 3: until four thirty the afternoon until we closed down at
- 22:13Speaker 3: five o'clock. There's going to be a stage schedule. There's
- 22:16Speaker 3: going to be activity on the stage all day long.
- 22:19Speaker 3: From music. Lee Dean will be there to do a
- 22:22Speaker 3: little Elvis, to do a little Sinatra. We're going to
- 22:25Speaker 3: have lunch and learns. We're going to have seminars about
- 22:27Speaker 3: elderly and medicare. J. T. Hunter is going to do
- 22:30Speaker 3: something less these see from just Us Retirement Solutions are
- 22:33Speaker 3: going to do something. JK the DJ is going to
- 22:36Speaker 3: be providing singo. I can't wait. I've never seen singo.
- 22:39Speaker 3: It's like bingo, but with music.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Music. I leave it to JK to come up.
- 22:44Speaker 3: It's just going to be outstanding. The Committee for the
- 22:46Speaker 3: Senior Expo has done a great job. We've been meeting
- 22:49Speaker 3: for months. Kihy with Wowk been a real advocate for
- 22:55Speaker 3: this committee. We've had Samantha from Ray's Boon Health, We've
- 22:59Speaker 3: had folks from Hoffas, We've had folks from Puttnam Aging.
- 23:03Speaker 3: It takes a village to take care of our elderly,
- 23:05Speaker 3: and we have so many great sponsors, so many folks
- 23:08Speaker 3: have come together to put this event together. I'm so
- 23:10Speaker 3: excited for Saturday. And the best part about this folks,
- 23:13Speaker 3: if you're listening, a mission is totally free. There's no
- 23:16Speaker 3: there's no charge to come in. Jenna's sponsoring a complimentary
- 23:20Speaker 3: lunch during the lunch and learn. Of course, Boone's going
- 23:23Speaker 3: to be doing some cooking demonstrations, so that means there's
- 23:25Speaker 3: going to be some free samples on some items to eat,
- 23:29Speaker 3: and it's just gonna be one of those things where
- 23:31Speaker 3: you just got to come down if you're if you're
- 23:34Speaker 3: taking care of an elderly or if you're an utterly
- 23:36Speaker 3: and you just want to get you know, you want
- 23:38Speaker 3: to get out of the house, you want to get
- 23:39Speaker 3: out of the apartment. Get down there, Benny keatam easy,
- 23:43Speaker 3: easy to get in, and we'll take the care of
- 23:45Speaker 3: you when you get there. I'm looking forward to it.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I'm going to be there pretty much most of the day, Dave.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Well, and I think sometimes another group that you may
- 23:52Speaker 2: not have mentioned that maybe want to, especially since it's
- 23:55Speaker 2: free and all this information is available. There are those
- 23:58Speaker 2: of us that are the gen xers. I'll be fifty
- 24:01Speaker 2: six in September. I don't ever plan on ever fully retiring.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I'm going to be doing something. However, getting to that
- 24:07Speaker 2: age when you know there may be some information available
- 24:11Speaker 2: for me to come there too. Well, as I look
- 24:14Speaker 2: at that part of my life coming.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Home, well, as you think about it, you're not quite
- 24:19Speaker 3: there yet, but pretty soon you're going to be how
- 24:20Speaker 3: do I navigate this medicare path? And I didn't know
- 24:24Speaker 3: how to do it. Now I know how to do it.
- 24:25Speaker 3: There's gonna be folks there to help you through that.
- 24:28Speaker 3: There's going to be folks there from hospice if you
- 24:31Speaker 3: may need may need that. Loved ones obviously will be
- 24:34Speaker 3: there and this is what they do. They take care
- 24:37Speaker 3: of the elderly or folks who are a disadvantaged or
- 24:40Speaker 3: maybe have a disability, but they want to they're able
- 24:43Speaker 3: to stay at home, but they don't want to go
- 24:45Speaker 3: anywhere and get treatment. They want to be at home.
- 24:48Speaker 3: So we're going to help you navigate gate that. And
- 24:51Speaker 3: as you're navigating that at the Senior ex Bo, you're
- 24:53Speaker 3: going to have a good time. It's going to be
- 24:55Speaker 3: there's lots of entertainment there as well. There's lots of
- 24:58Speaker 3: things to eat, and there's gonna be lots of people
- 25:01Speaker 3: to talk to. It's we in the committee we were
- 25:04Speaker 3: saying for the past couple of months, this is not
- 25:06Speaker 3: your grandma, your grandpa Senior Expo. This is gonna be
- 25:08Speaker 3: kind of fun. We're gonna have a good time.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And you got my man lead in there.
- 25:12Speaker 3: How much fun will he be? Well, Jenna gets him
- 25:14Speaker 3: every year. She loves the Lee.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Does Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Uh, and he basically becomes
- 25:21Speaker 2: Elvis and Franklin Lee and I go way way back
- 25:23Speaker 2: for for coworkers and he does a fantastic.
- 25:25Speaker 3: And your mom liked him a lot, right, Yes, that's
- 25:29Speaker 3: how this and that's how this came about.
- 25:31Speaker 12: Yeah, when we started planning the first one, I was like,
- 25:35Speaker 12: we have to get him. Uh.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Plus, you know, Elvis draws in the folks, so of
- 25:40Speaker 2: all generations really exactly exactly. And for that matter, So
- 25:44Speaker 2: and Sinatra Ray, I want to talk about about about
- 25:48Speaker 2: Boom Memorials part in this and why is it that
- 25:51Speaker 2: you guys do this great question? Appreciate that.
- 25:54Speaker 13: You know, it's really important for us to be in
- 25:58Speaker 13: the communities that we serve, and you know a lot
- 26:00Speaker 13: of folks can't make it to us certainly as often
- 26:04Speaker 13: as they might want to or need to, and so
- 26:06Speaker 13: having opportunities like this to go out into the community
- 26:09Speaker 13: and not only provide information, but be able to provide
- 26:12Speaker 13: some level of services. And as Jim was talking about
- 26:15Speaker 13: just helping people navigate, you know, healthcare is complicated and
- 26:19Speaker 13: there's going to be a lot of people there, not
- 26:20Speaker 13: just from our team but Jenna's team and the other
- 26:22Speaker 13: great sponsors that are going to be there ask the questions.
- 26:25Speaker 13: You know, there is no silly question certainly when it
- 26:28Speaker 13: comes to healthcare. We want to help you navigate it
- 26:31Speaker 13: and get the services and the care that you need.
- 26:33Speaker 13: And so we're grateful with the opportunity and appreciate Jenna
- 26:36Speaker 13: and Jim for getting us involved again this year.
- 26:38Speaker 2: And Jenn, I'll let you talk about loved Ones a
- 26:40Speaker 2: little bit. What exactly do you against do.
- 26:42Speaker 12: We do in home care?
- 26:43Speaker 2: Jim talked about a little bit, but I want you
- 26:45Speaker 2: to expound upon it though.
- 26:47Speaker 12: Absolutely. My mom actually started the company in nineteen ninety six,
- 26:51Speaker 12: nineteen ninety seven, and it was born out of a
- 26:53Speaker 12: promise to her own mother. She never wanted to leave
- 26:56Speaker 12: her home. She wanted to be able to stay there
- 26:58Speaker 12: up until the life second of it. And when my
- 27:02Speaker 12: mom started doing research, she saw that there was a
- 27:05Speaker 12: need in the community, not just for my grandmother, but
- 27:08Speaker 12: for lots of people's grandmothers and grandfathers and even beyond that.
- 27:13Speaker 12: So she started loved Ones. And what we do is
- 27:16Speaker 12: we go in the home and we help with anything
- 27:18Speaker 12: which is called non skilled care. So that's you know,
- 27:22Speaker 12: helping people get in the shower, helping get them meals,
- 27:26Speaker 12: helping keep their places neat and tidy. We also help
- 27:32Speaker 12: with taking them out into the community to do some
- 27:34Speaker 12: community activity. So yeah, we just help them keep functioning
- 27:39Speaker 12: without having to go to a nursing home. Because everybody
- 27:43Speaker 12: we take care of actually is eligible for nursing home. Care,
- 27:47Speaker 12: so we keep them in the home.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Where can people learn more about about your service.
- 27:51Speaker 12: Well, they can go to our website loved onescares dot
- 27:54Speaker 12: com and it tells it gives everything, all the stuff,
- 27:59Speaker 12: all the stuff.
- 28:00Speaker 2: All right, Jim, I want to give you an opportunity
- 28:01Speaker 2: kind of wrap this thing up here because this is
- 28:04Speaker 2: and now with the with the baby boomers. Uh And
- 28:07Speaker 2: as I said, I'm a gen X guy, you know,
- 28:09Speaker 2: heading into that that direction right now, we're seeing you know,
- 28:12Speaker 2: more and more elderly people that are looking for information
- 28:17Speaker 2: on these services. And the great thing about expos and
- 28:19Speaker 2: events like this is is it's it's not it's not
- 28:22Speaker 2: a pressure situation. You know, if you pick up the phone,
- 28:24Speaker 2: with all due respect to the medical you call, you know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: it can be or you go to a facility, it
- 28:29Speaker 2: can be a little intimidating. This is basically these people
- 28:32Speaker 2: will be set up, all these vendors you have and
- 28:34Speaker 2: you guys, loved Ones and Boom will be there as well.
- 28:37Speaker 2: People can come to you and ask the questions kind
- 28:40Speaker 2: of you know, that's on their mind and they don't
- 28:41Speaker 2: feel like they're sitting in a waiting room or sitting
- 28:43Speaker 2: on a table Jim, you can you can talk to that.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I think Race ended it up best. You can come
- 28:48Speaker 3: and there are no selly questions that and every vendor,
- 28:51Speaker 3: everyone at the expo is going to be so welcoming
- 28:54Speaker 3: and so enjoyed to see you, so thrilled to see you,
- 28:59Speaker 3: so wanting to be helpful, and I want to help
- 29:02Speaker 3: you and your loved one and your family member. It's
- 29:05Speaker 3: just gonna be one of those easy to go to
- 29:09Speaker 3: and be at without any kind of pressure. If we
- 29:12Speaker 3: haven't got a if you haven't got a good sense
- 29:14Speaker 3: of what the event is about. There is a website,
- 29:18Speaker 3: the Donna Expo Donna Expo, Donna Skeen Seniorexpo dot com.

- 39:10Speaker 2: as Louis Vauton, so I think the perfect name for
- 39:13Speaker 2: the new marketplace is Cartier Kroger. Well, here is somebody
- 39:18Speaker 2: who is a once or twice three times a week
- 39:20Speaker 2: shopper at the Kroger in Tays Valley when it opened
- 39:23Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, those of us in the
- 39:25Speaker 2: valley started calling it the Prada Kroger. All right, so
- 39:30Speaker 2: I got DIBs on that. The Tay's Valley is the
- 39:33Speaker 2: Prada Kroger. Now we can call this one the Louis Vauton,
- 39:37Speaker 2: we can call it, you know whatever, or I'm sorry,
- 39:40Speaker 2: the Cardier or whatever the textra says there. But now
- 39:44Speaker 2: we kind of already named that one over there. I'm

- 39:55Speaker 2: boys will talk about it. Brad as the story posted
- 39:57Speaker 2: at wv metronews dot com, and it's this ruling about

- 40:12Speaker 2: Department waivers that allowed several states to ban SNAP recipients
- 40:16Speaker 2: from using food stamps to buy soda, candy, etc.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Etc.
- 40:21Speaker 2: This was a sixty eight page decision that ruled that
- 40:26Speaker 2: the agency quote exceeded its legal authority by approving the
- 40:30Speaker 2: state restrictions without congressional approval. Continuing with the quote the
- 40:36Speaker 2: federal defendants and the states may have a genuine desire
- 40:39Speaker 2: to improve the health of SNAP households by encouraging healthy
- 40:43Speaker 2: choices at the store, and they can take lawful steps
- 40:46Speaker 2: to meet those goals. But what they can't do is
- 40:49Speaker 2: violate the law and their own regulations along the way. Quote. Now,
- 40:55Speaker 2: in addition to West Virginia, other states, including Colorado, Iowa,
- 40:59Speaker 2: and Tendency try to enact a similar legislation basically saying
- 41:05Speaker 2: that those on SNAP benefits could not buy the junk
- 41:08Speaker 2: foot Well, it has been struck down. It has been
- 41:12Speaker 2: struck down, and the Morrissey administration not happy about that.

- 46:01Speaker 2: God Up, the Governor's Festivities. I mean, there's just so much,
- 46:07Speaker 2: so much going on in Charleston. And again you talk
- 46:10Speaker 2: about four hundred of these gymnasts coming here with an
- 46:13Speaker 2: average of two to three people per person with them.
- 46:17Speaker 2: That's a whole lot of people in Charleston. That's a
- 46:19Speaker 2: whole lot of people going to staying in the hotels,
- 46:21Speaker 2: that's a whole lot of people eating at the restaurants,
- 46:23Speaker 2: not only in Charleston, South Charleston, Tays Valley, you know,
- 46:27Speaker 2: on on down the line.
- 46:29Speaker 18: Uh.
- 46:30Speaker 2: But yet people say there's nothing to do in Charleston.
- 46:33Speaker 2: They say, there's there's this city is dead. Okay, sorry,
- 46:38Speaker 2: I can't. I can't go along with that. I'm sorry.
- 46:40Speaker 2: And I say that for South Charleston, I say that
- 46:43Speaker 2: for Saint Albans, I say it for Dunbar. I'd say
- 46:46Speaker 2: it for Winfield, Hurricane. I'm gonna leave one out and
- 46:50Speaker 2: I mentioned Saint Albans. All these towns and in Clendennon
- 46:53Speaker 2: this weekend, you know they are commemorating the anniversary, the
- 46:58Speaker 2: ten year anniversary, which was earlier this week flood. They
- 47:00Speaker 2: got activities going on Friday and Saturday. And the only
- 47:03Speaker 2: reason I keep bringing these things up is because nothing
- 47:05Speaker 2: gets in my crawl anymore. For people to say, God,
- 47:08Speaker 2: Virginia's dead, there's nothing going on, Well, I would beg
- 47:13Speaker 2: to differ. There's a heck of a lot going on,
- 47:16Speaker 2: and there always is every weekend, the regattas and the
- 47:19Speaker 2: big thing, that's what gets all the attention. But man,
- 47:22Speaker 2: every weekend in the Kenaw Valley there is something going on.
- 47:25Speaker 2: There's people coming and staying in hotels, the restaurants are full,
- 47:29Speaker 2: and so I just, I just, I guess I get
- 47:31Speaker 2: a little bit tired of the pessimism all the time
- 47:34Speaker 2: about people saying that this area is dead. Do we
- 47:36Speaker 2: have a population issue, Yes, we have a population issue,
- 47:39Speaker 2: But at least we have people that are coming. If
- 47:42Speaker 2: you heard the interview with the mayor of Clintennon that
- 47:44Speaker 2: I did yesterday in Clindennon, they got folks that just
- 47:48Speaker 2: moved here from California and Maine that are living here,
- 47:51Speaker 2: no ties to the area whatsoever. Granny and Grandpa weren't
- 47:54Speaker 2: from here. They came here because of the outdoor recreation
- 47:57Speaker 2: and because they can work remote and we need a
- 48:00Speaker 2: whole lot more of that, and I for one am
- 48:02Speaker 2: happy to see it Texas. Barack Obama appointed Amy Berman
- 48:05Speaker 2: Jackson as US State District Judge for the District of
- 48:08Speaker 2: Columbia March twenty eleven. She is an activist. Justice Left
- 48:12Speaker 2: can't win of policy issues like this, so they go
- 48:14Speaker 2: through friendly, strategically placed judges in the courts. Say it's
- 48:18Speaker 2: a Texter. One of the texts I wanted to I
- 48:21Speaker 2: wanted to I didn't get a chance to read this yesterday.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I wanted to go back to it. And I always
- 48:24Speaker 2: appreciate all the texts I was talking about. Yesterday, I
- 48:28Speaker 2: had Aaron wood On from the Kanas City Community Association.
- 48:32Speaker 2: They have a meeting coming up tonight at City National
- 48:34Speaker 2: Bank sort so I think at six o'clock over there
- 48:36Speaker 2: about an hour long meeting. Officials from Mayor Goodwin's administration
- 48:39Speaker 2: are going to be their first responders whatever. And basically
- 48:42Speaker 2: it is an opportunity for people to go out and
- 48:45Speaker 2: ask questions. If you don't want to do a full
- 48:47Speaker 2: on city hall thing, can be a little bit intimidating
- 48:50Speaker 2: whatever in front of a council meeting. If you're a
- 48:52Speaker 2: resident of Kanas City, if you visit Kanas City, if
- 48:55Speaker 2: you have an interest in Kanas City, if you're a
- 48:57Speaker 2: business owner, you can go to City National Bank and
- 48:59Speaker 2: as the tonight starting at six o'clock, plenty of free
- 49:02Speaker 2: parking and you can talk one on one with City
- 49:05Speaker 2: of Charleston officials, Mayor's office, council, police, fire whatever. They're
- 49:10Speaker 2: all going to be there. And I was just saying
- 49:13Speaker 2: the fact that the last time they had one of
- 49:15Speaker 2: these meetings over there, two people showed up. Two But
- 49:20Speaker 2: yet everybody wants to go to social media and complain.
- 49:23Speaker 2: They want to go to these pseudo ninety nine point
- 49:27Speaker 2: nine percent wrong more than their right Facebook pages and
- 49:32Speaker 2: put information on there when you have an opportunity to
- 49:35Speaker 2: go and talk to these people. And so someone's kind
- 49:38Speaker 2: of called me out of that, And I do appreciate
- 49:40Speaker 2: the text that says you said yourself, Dave, you don't
- 49:42Speaker 2: live there, but you do know the problems. So why
- 49:44Speaker 2: do these representatives need more people at a meeting to
- 49:46Speaker 2: complain or discuss issues They already know that they're going
- 49:49Speaker 2: to complain about well, it's an opportunity. Appreciate the text.
- 49:52Speaker 2: It's an opportunity for you to have a one on
- 49:54Speaker 2: one with them, to talk to them. As I said,
- 49:56Speaker 2: everybody didn't like to go to a to a city
- 49:58Speaker 2: council meeting, and this goes for any city. You can talk.
- 50:02Speaker 2: You can set just like you're setting at Wendy's, you know,
- 50:05Speaker 2: across the table from each other, and you can have
- 50:07Speaker 2: an opportunity to talk about it and say, hey, I
- 50:10Speaker 2: got a real issue with this in my community. I
- 50:13Speaker 2: got a real issue with the crime. I got a
- 50:15Speaker 2: real issue with the you know, the potholes and granted
- 50:17Speaker 2: sometimes they can't always do a lot about potholes. I
- 50:20Speaker 2: got a real issue with drainingg whatever the case may be.
- 50:22Speaker 2: They're there. So if you're a resident or a business
- 50:25Speaker 2: owner in Kanah City, Kanaw City Community Association meeting free
- 50:30Speaker 2: of charge, six o'clock tonight, City National Bank, all the
- 50:33Speaker 2: people are going to be there, so it's your chance
- 50:35Speaker 2: to go talk to them one on one. And I
- 50:36Speaker 2: would hope to God, but they can get more people
- 50:39Speaker 2: to show up than two because for that organization, and
- 50:42Speaker 2: again I don't live there. That's embarrassing. It's embarrassing. Only
- 50:47Speaker 2: two people showed up. You got plenty of notice. It's
- 50:49Speaker 2: all I saw about the meeting on social media. And
- 50:52Speaker 2: that's when I reached out to Aaron Wood, who's the
- 50:54Speaker 2: head of the organization, and said, do you want to
- 50:56Speaker 2: come on the show and talk about it? And it
- 50:58Speaker 2: showed up in my feet. I don't even live ink
- 51:00Speaker 2: and all City. So mister Meadows is here. How you doing?
- 51:03Speaker 1: Man?
- 51:03Speaker 3: Good?
- 51:03Speaker 2: How are you? I'm doing five? I just get a
- 51:05Speaker 2: little fired up with people would rather, you know, complain
- 51:08Speaker 2: on social media as opposed to actually going and talking
- 51:10Speaker 2: to people that could actually help them.
- 51:11Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 51:13Speaker 2: Well, you know, one's fun, one's work. I got you
- 51:16Speaker 2: what you got on the show today, buddy h So.
- 51:18Speaker 18: Coming up, we're going to be talking with Steven Allen,
- 51:21Speaker 18: Adams a million nicely, Brad McElhenny. You know they all
- 51:24Speaker 18: sat down with Paul Hardesty yesterday. I happen to be
- 51:27Speaker 18: in on that conversation as well. We're gonna have a
- 51:29Speaker 18: reporter roundtable. What did you hear yesterday? What's the path
- 51:32Speaker 18: moving forward? How does it all work out? So we'll
- 51:35Speaker 18: talk about that and get into some of the details.
- 51:38Speaker 18: There also coming up on the show today, Jared Alpert,
- 51:42Speaker 18: Fox News. Big shouting match in DC between Trump and
- 51:45Speaker 18: Republican senators yesterday. We're gonna get into that, find out
- 51:48Speaker 18: what it's all about. Hoppy at eleven oh six with
- 51:50Speaker 18: his latest commentary.
- 51:51Speaker 7: JB.
- 51:52Speaker 18: Mccusky, Attorney General of the Great States, will be PJ
- 51:55Speaker 18: dropped today or not.
- 51:57Speaker 2: We'll talk to him either way and see what's up.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Going to be a big news story, indeed, And I'm
- 52:00Speaker 2: back tomorrow for a Friday edition of the show. Later
- 52:02Speaker 2: on today, I'll see you on Metro News midday with
- 52:04Speaker 2: Amanda Baron till then have fun. I Love Somebody, Do
- 52:21Speaker 2: you see.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Hs AM six point five back then Charleston one oh
- 52:24Speaker 1: four point five Cross Lanes, w v RC Media Station.
