- 0:00There is a reality that every strong person eventually
- 0:03discovers. No matter how disciplined you are,
- 0:06no matter how gifted you are, no matter how mature
- 0:09you are, no matter how long you have walked with
- 0:12God, there are battles that cannot be seen. Battles
- 0:16that happen behind the smile, behind the title,
- 0:20behind the experience, behind the strength that
- 0:22everyone else sees. Because sometimes the greatest
- 0:25battles are not around us, they are within us.
- 0:28And before we can understand where strong people
- 0:31drift away, we must first understand how strong
- 0:34people become vulnerable, because no one collapses
- 0:37overnight. The visible fall is usually preceded
- 0:41by an invisible battle. And before we can understand
- 0:44that battle, we must remember the journey that
- 0:46brought us here. In episode 1 of When the Strong
- 0:49Get Tired, we exposed one of the most overlooked
- 0:52weapons used against strong people, physical
- 0:55exhaustion. Because sometimes the enemy does
- 0:58not need to destroy a person, he only needs to
- 1:01wear them down. In episode 2, we explored spiritual
- 1:05weariness, the slow fading of passion, the slow
- 1:09fading of prayer, the slow fading of intimacy
- 1:12with God, the kind of fatigue that sleep cannot
- 1:15cure because it affects the soul. In episode
- 1:183, we examined the pressures, responsibilities,
- 1:22burdens, and unseen battles that quietly drain
- 1:25even the strongest believers. Because strength
- 1:28carries weight, and sometimes the weight becomes
- 1:31heavy. In episode 4, we revealed how great people
- 1:35often fall, not because they lack talent, gifting,
- 1:39opportunity or calling, but because character
- 1:42failed to sustain what success had built. Because
- 1:45what elevates a person is not always what keeps
- 1:47them there. In episode 5, we uncovered one of
- 1:51the deepest wounds strong people carry. Disappointment.
- 1:55The disappointment of betrayal. The disappointment
- 1:58of rejection. The disappointment of unanswered
- 2:01expectations. The disappointment of watching
- 2:04trusted people fail. And how disappointment,
- 2:07when left unresolved, can quietly become bitterness.
- 2:12Then in episode 6, we entered the battlefield
- 2:14within. The struggle of the flesh. The reality
- 2:18that every believer regardless of title, position,
- 2:22gifting or spiritual maturity, carries an internal
- 2:25battle. A battle between the old nature and the
- 2:29new nature. A battle between what God is building
- 2:32and what the flesh desires. Because the greatest
- 2:35threat is not always the devil around us. Sometimes
- 2:38it is the war within us. And that brings us to
- 2:42today's conversation. Because if the flesh is
- 2:45always fighting and if disappointment is always
- 2:48pressing, and if responsibilities are always
- 2:51increasing, then a very important question emerges.
- 2:55Why do strong people suddenly become vulnerable?
- 2:58Why do people who love God sometimes make decisions
- 3:01they never thought they would make? Why do great
- 3:04leaders fall? Why do faithful believers drift?
- 3:08Why do strong marriages suddenly crack? Why do
- 3:12strong men quietly collapse? The answer may be
- 3:15simpler than we think. The enemy rarely attacks
- 3:18your greatest strength. He waits for your defenses
- 3:21to weaken. Today on Pamoja Podcast, we explore
- 3:25Episode 7, When Your Defenses Are Down, because
- 3:29the fall is often visible, but the weakening
- 3:32is usually hidden. Welcome to Pamoja Podcast,
- 3:37a ministry of Life of Christ International, where
- 3:40we build stronger lives, deeper faith, and Christ
- 3:43-centered homes. One story, One message and one
- 3:47revelation at a time. And now, your host, Barry
- 3:52Mwamba. Today I want to talk about something
- 3:54that every believer experiences but very few
- 3:57recognize while it is happening. A battle that
- 4:01often starts quietly. A battle that rarely announces
- 4:05itself. A battle that usually begins long before
- 4:08the visible failure. Today I want to talk about
- 4:12when your defenses are down. because there is
- 4:16something I've discovered while studying scripture.
- 4:19Most great failures in the Bible did not begin
- 4:21where we think they began. Most did not start
- 4:24with adultery. Most did not start with compromise.
- 4:28Most did not start with rebellion. Most did not
- 4:31start with someone waking up one morning and
- 4:33deciding to abandon God. The visible fall was
- 4:37simply the final chapter of a battle that had
- 4:39been developing for a long time. The collapse
- 4:42was public. The weakening was private. And perhaps
- 4:46that is why so many strong people are caught
- 4:48by surprise. Because they are looking for the
- 4:51attack, while ignoring the weakening. The enemy
- 4:55understands something that many believers forget.
- 4:58You do not attack a fortress when it is strongest.
- 5:01You attack it when the guards are tired, when
- 5:04supplies are low, when vigilance fades, when
- 5:08attention is divided, when resistance weakens.
- 5:11And this principle appears throughout scripture.
- 5:15The enemy rarely attacks strength directly. He
- 5:18studies weakness. Not because weakness is sin,
- 5:22but because weakness lowers resistance. And this
- 5:25is where I need every listener to hear me carefully.
- 5:28Weakness is not sin. Being tired is not sin.
- 5:31Being discouraged is not sin. Being lonely is
- 5:34not sin. Being disappointed is not sin. Being
- 5:37tempted is not sin. Even Jesus was tempted. The
- 5:40danger begins when weakness remains unattended,
- 5:43because unattended weakness eventually becomes
- 5:45an open gate, and open gates attract enemies.
- 5:48Maybe that is why all the previous episodes connect
- 5:51so perfectly. Episode 1 taught us about physical
- 5:53exhaustion, because exhausted people stop fighting
- 5:56battles they normally would win. Episode 2 taught
- 5:59us about spiritual weariness, because a starving
- 6:02spirit loses discernment. Episode 3 taught us
- 6:04about pressure and responsibility, because carrying
- 6:07too much weight eventually affects judgment.
- 6:09Episode 4 taught us about character, because
- 6:12success without character eventually creates
- 6:15cracks in the foundation. Episode 5 taught us
- 6:18about disappointment, because unresolved wounds
- 6:20often become bitterness. Episode 6 taught us
- 6:23about the battle within, the struggle of the
- 6:25flesh, the conflict between what God is building
- 6:28and what the old nature still desires. And now
- 6:31Episode 7 reveals what ties them all together.
- 6:34Defenses Resistance Spiritual Vigilance because
- 6:38every one of those previous battles has the potential
- 6:41to weaken our defenses. And when defenses weaken,
- 6:44temptation becomes louder than it should be.
- 6:47Not because temptation became stronger, but because
- 6:49resistance became weaker. Think about David.
- 6:52Most people think David's problem began with
- 6:54Bathsheba. It didn't. The rooftop was the manifestation.
- 6:58The vulnerability started earlier. Scripture
- 7:01says it was the season when kings went to war,
- 7:03but David stayed home. The warrior stopped fighting.
- 7:06the king became comfortable. Isolation entered
- 7:09the story before temptation entered the story.
- 7:12The rooftop was visible. The weakening was hidden.
- 7:15Think about Elijah, one of the greatest prophets
- 7:17who ever lived. He confronted hundreds of false
- 7:20prophets, called down fire from heaven, experienced
- 7:23one of the greatest victories recorded in scripture.
- 7:26Yet shortly afterward, he was asking God to let
- 7:29him die. Why? Was Jezebel suddenly stronger than
- 7:32God? No. Elijah was exhausted. physically drained,
- 7:37emotionally depleted, mentally exhausted. And
- 7:40when his defenses were lowered, the threat suddenly
- 7:43felt bigger than the God who had just answered
- 7:44by fire. Notice God's response. God did not begin
- 7:48with a sermon. God gave him rest, food, water,
- 7:52recovery. Because sometimes spiritual restoration
- 7:56begins with physical restoration. Now let's talk
- 7:58about something many churches avoid. Marriage.
- 8:01Because marriage struggles can create vulnerabilities.
- 8:04Loss of communication. Loss of affection. Loss
- 8:07of intimacy. Distance. Disconnection. Over familiarity.
- 8:12Neglected emotional needs. Neglected physical
- 8:14needs. None of those things excuse sin. Let me
- 8:17say that again. None of those things excuse sin.
- 8:20But they do explain why temptation suddenly feels
- 8:23stronger. A hungry person notices food. A lonely
- 8:26person notices attention. A neglected spouse
- 8:29notices affection. The problem is not noticing.
- 8:32The problem is what happens next. The danger
- 8:34begins when weakness becomes permission, when
- 8:37struggle becomes justification, when pain becomes
- 8:40a license, when we begin negotiating with what
- 8:43God has already settled. That is exactly what
- 8:45happened in Eden. Eve saw the fruit. Seeing was
- 8:48not the sin. The battle began when God's command
- 8:51became negotiable. The battle was not in the
- 8:54fruit. The battle was in the justification. And
- 8:56that battle still exists today. Many believers
- 8:59are not losing to temptation. They are losing
- 9:01to rationalization. They are creating spiritual
- 9:04permission slips. My marriage is difficult. My
- 9:07needs are not being met. No one understands.
- 9:10I deserve happiness. I deserve this. The moment
- 9:13pain becomes our defense attorney, danger is
- 9:16already at the gate. Let's talk about Sampson.
- 9:19Sampson did not lose his strength in Delilah's
- 9:21lap. That is simply where the story ended. His
- 9:24strength had been leaking through compromise
- 9:25for years. One compromise, then another, then
- 9:29another. Delilah was not the beginning. She was
- 9:32the consequence. The enemy often wins by repetition,
- 9:35not by one massive attack, by repeated small
- 9:38compromises, by repeated neglect, by repeated
- 9:42lowering of defenses. Peter gives us another
- 9:44example. Think about the night Jesus was arrested.
- 9:47The disciples had just experienced confusion,
- 9:50fear, uncertainty, emotional pressure, exhaustion,
- 9:55disappointment. Then Peter denied Jesus three
- 9:57times. Peter loved Jesus. There is no question
- 10:00about that. But in one of the weakest moments
- 10:02of his life, his defenses were down. What gives
- 10:05me hope is this. Jesus restored Peter. Because
- 10:09failure does not have to be final. And that may
- 10:11be exactly what someone listening needs to hear
- 10:13today. Maybe your defenses have been down. Maybe
- 10:16you have been carrying pressure. Maybe disappointment
- 10:19wounded you. Maybe the flesh has been louder
- 10:21than usual. Maybe temptation feels stronger than
- 10:24it did before. Maybe you are tired. Maybe you
- 10:27are exhausted. Maybe you are fighting battles
- 10:29nobody knows about. Listen carefully. God is
- 10:32not shocked by your weakness. God found Gideon
- 10:35hiding in a winepress. God found Peter after
- 10:37his denial. God found Elijah under a tree. God
- 10:41found Paul while he was persecuting believers.
- 10:43God specializes in finding people at their weakest
- 10:46moments. But he never leaves them there. That
- 10:48is the difference between grace and surrender.
- 10:51Grace explains our struggle. Grace never justifies
- 10:54our surrender. God meets us where we are, but
- 10:57He always calls us higher. That is why God looked
- 11:00at Gideon and said, mighty man of valor. Not
- 11:03because Gideon looked mighty, not because Gideon
- 11:05felt mighty, but because God could see beyond
- 11:08the weakness, beyond the fear, beyond the struggle.
- 11:11God was speaking to what Gideon could become.
- 11:14And perhaps God is doing the same thing for someone
- 11:16listening today. Maybe everyone around you sees
- 11:19weakness, but God still sees purpose. Maybe everyone
- 11:22around you sees failure. but God still sees destiny.
- 11:26Maybe everyone around you sees exhaustion, but
- 11:28God still sees potential. Before we close, I
- 11:31want you to notice something. Everything we have
- 11:34discussed throughout this series has been connected.
- 11:36Physical exhaustion, spiritual weariness, pressure,
- 11:40responsibility, character, disappointment, the
- 11:43struggle of the flesh. None of these things exist
- 11:46in isolation. They work together. Because the
- 11:49enemy understands a principle many believers
- 11:51ignore. Rarely does he destroy a strong person
- 11:54with one attack. He weakens them little by little.
- 11:57A little exhaustion. A little discouragement.
- 12:00A little disappointment. A little compromise.
- 12:02A little neglect. A little distance from God.
- 12:05A little less prayer. A little less vigilance.
- 12:08Until one day people see the fall, without ever
- 12:11seeing the battle that came before it. But today,
- 12:13God is exposing the battle before the fall, because
- 12:16heaven does not reveal these things to condemn
- 12:18us. He reveals them to protect us. Perhaps while
- 12:21listening today, the Holy Spirit has already
- 12:24shown you where your defenses have been weakening.
- 12:26A gate left unguarded. A wound left untreated.
- 12:29A burden carried too long. A compromise excused
- 12:32one too many times. If that is you, hear me carefully.
- 12:36The warning is not God's rejection. The warning
- 12:39is God's mercy. Because God warns what He intends
- 12:42to preserve. The same God who warned Noah before
- 12:44the flood. The same God who warned Joseph before
- 12:47the famine. The same God who sent prophets before
- 12:50judgment came, is still warning His people today,
- 12:53not to condemn them, but to save them, because
- 12:56restoration is always easier than reconstruction.
- 12:59And maybe somebody listening right now needs
- 13:00to hear this. but because they kept returning
- 13:19to God when they did. The strongest believers
- 13:22are not those who never get tired. The strongest
- 13:24believers are those who know where to run when
- 13:26they do. So if your defenses have been down,
- 13:29run back to God. If your walls have been damaged,
- 13:32run back to God. If your heart has been wounded,
- 13:35run back to God. If your strength is failing,
- 13:38run back to God. Because the same God who found
- 13:41Gideon in a winepress, found Elijah under a tree,
- 13:44found Peter after his denial. found David after
- 13:47his failure, and found Paul on the road to Damascus,
- 13:51is still finding people today. And perhaps he
- 13:53is finding you right now, because the story is
- 13:56not over. The wall can be rebuilt. The gates
- 13:58can be restored. The strength can return. The
- 14:01joy can return. The fire can return. The passion
- 14:05can return. And the God who began a good work
- 14:07in you is faithful to complete it. This is not
- 14:10the end of your story. This is not your collapse.
- 14:13This is not your defeat. This is your warning.
- 14:15This is your restoration. This is your moment
- 14:18to rebuild. And perhaps, this is your turning
- 14:21point. Before we leave today, I want you to understand
- 14:24something. This episode brings us to the end
- 14:26of a journey. For seven episodes, we have explored
- 14:29what happens when strong people become tired.
- 14:32But a new question now stands before us. What
- 14:34happens when vulnerability is ignored? What happens
- 14:37when conviction is repeatedly silenced? What
- 14:40happens when compromises are allowed to grow?
- 14:42What happens when a believer keeps hearing God's
- 14:45voice but chooses not to respond? Because the
- 14:48truth is this. Most people do not fall overnight.
- 14:51Most people drift. One compromise at a time.
- 14:54One distraction at a time. One neglected prayer
- 14:57at a time. One ignored warning at a time. One
- 14:59act of complacency at a time. The enemy rarely
- 15:02destroys people suddenly. More often, he slowly
- 15:05pulls them away from the place where God intended
- 15:07them to remain. And that will be the focus of
- 15:10our next journey, Season 2. why the strong drift
- 15:13away, a season about small compromises, ignored
- 15:16convictions, lost intimacy, spiritual numbness,
- 15:20the gradual departure from God's presence, and
- 15:23the incredible grace of a God who continues calling
- 15:25his people back home. Because maybe you haven't
- 15:28fallen, maybe you've simply drifted, and if that's
- 15:31true, there is still hope. Because the shepherd
- 15:33still goes looking for wandering sheep. The journey
- 15:36continues, and together we will discover why
- 15:39the strong drift away. and how God brings them
- 15:41back. I'll see you in season two. This is your
- 15:44turning point.
