- 0:41SPEAKER_09: Just like last week, it was 300.
- 0:42SPEAKER_09: Actually, my my uh my wife's aunt with who's a former uh elementary teacher, she would say it's not 300 and one.
- 0:50SPEAKER_12: No, it's it's 300.
- 0:51SPEAKER_12: 301.
- 0:52SPEAKER_09: Yes, 301, not 300.
- 0:53SPEAKER_12: I remember I remember going through that as in like elementary school, they're like, Don't say and okay.
- 1:01SPEAKER_12: It's 900 and no, don't say and so me, Doug, go into the store.
- 1:08SPEAKER_10: Doug Bryant goes store.
- 1:13SPEAKER_09: Make fire.
- 1:14SPEAKER_09: So episode 301.
- 1:17SPEAKER_09: 301.
- 1:18SPEAKER_09: Um, and boy, it's a lot a lot to talk a lot to talk about today.
- 1:22SPEAKER_09: We had a uh second um gig last week, last Friday, uh for Haystack Union.
- 1:28SPEAKER_12: Was it yeah, it was Friday.
- 1:30SPEAKER_09: Last Friday.
- 1:31SPEAKER_12: I was I was thinking it was Saturday, but yeah, it didn't sound right.
- 1:34SPEAKER_09: It was uh it was a lot like the first gig.
- 1:37SPEAKER_09: I mean, better than the first gig, I would hope.
- 1:40SPEAKER_12: I thought I thought it was uh much smoother.
- 1:42SPEAKER_12: I think everybody was more relaxed, including Jordan.
- 1:44SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_12: So yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_09: I you know, I think uh it we're just gonna get better from from here on.
- 1:50SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_09: It's just once we we get a few of those under our belt and and we get used to the songs that we're learning, because we're some of these songs are foreign to all of us.
- 2:00SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 2:00SPEAKER_09: Um but I think we're we're we're getting a pretty good reaction.
- 2:04SPEAKER_09: The the nineties country is uh quite popular.
- 2:08SPEAKER_12: It's uh it's catching on.
- 2:09SPEAKER_12: It's catching on.
- 2:12unknown: Right.
- 2:13SPEAKER_12: Actually, I have no idea what the kids are saying.
- 2:16SPEAKER_09: I don't either, because it's a different language entirely.
- 2:20SPEAKER_12: It's totally tubular, man.
- 2:22SPEAKER_09: Uh we're gonna play uh a kind of a it's not a game today, but uh Bob suggested something.
- 2:28SPEAKER_09: We're not gonna do it right right now, but um Bob had our friend Bob.
- 2:32SPEAKER_09: Well, actually Bouncing Bob is our friend too, but I mean Bob Well we gotta distinguish between the two Bobs.
- 2:36SPEAKER_12: We do.
- 2:37SPEAKER_12: We got Bob and Bouncing Bob.
- 2:38SPEAKER_09: Bouncing Bob Painter Bob?
- 2:42unknown: Painter Bob.
- 2:43SPEAKER_12: Because he's an artist.
- 2:45SPEAKER_12: Bob the painter.
- 2:46SPEAKER_12: Bob the Painter That's what we'll call him.
- 2:49SPEAKER_12: Bob Bob the Painter.
- 2:50SPEAKER_12: Kind of like Bob Ross.
- 2:51SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 2:52SPEAKER_12: Without the hair.
- 2:54SPEAKER_12: He has hair.
- 2:55SPEAKER_12: Bob the painter.
- 2:56SPEAKER_12: Just not like the you know, the white boy from He has more hair than both of us.
- 3:01SPEAKER_12: Yeah, he does.
- 3:01SPEAKER_12: He actually does.
- 3:02SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so um He's been blessed with hair.
- 3:05SPEAKER_09: He had a great idea.
- 3:06SPEAKER_09: And actually he had this idea a long, long time ago.
- 3:09SPEAKER_09: Um, but um he reminded me about it today.
- 3:13SPEAKER_09: He's like, I got another band for you, in case you have you done the other band?
- 3:16SPEAKER_09: And I'm like, Oh no, we're we're we're gonna do that tonight.
- 3:21SPEAKER_09: And we don't know what's happening.
- 3:23SPEAKER_09: So uh basically he said, have listeners uh send send suggestions of bands or artists that we may not have heard.
- 3:31SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 3:31SPEAKER_09: And and just kind of do a reaction to it.
- 3:34SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 3:34SPEAKER_09: I like it.
- 3:35SPEAKER_09: And uh so we're gonna I don't know, uh do you wanna call it what do you want to call it?
- 3:40SPEAKER_09: Um because it it's gonna be a song that music that we don't know probably.
- 3:47SPEAKER_09: Although I think he did send the one that he sent today, I have heard.
- 3:52SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 3:53SPEAKER_09: So but it's still an un it's a fairly unknown artist.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: You wouldn't know this person.
- 3:58SPEAKER_09: So I mean we we could still do it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_09: But um what would you what would we call that segment?
- 4:05SPEAKER_09: Because it will be a new segment.
- 4:07SPEAKER_09: Um it's a lot like we did with Bounce and Bob and his uh daughter, uh granddaughter, where where uh they she told us this band, this up and coming band, and we we played their music and we dug it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_09: It was really good.
- 4:22SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 4:22SPEAKER_09: Um Do you remember the name of the band?
- 4:24SPEAKER_09: I don't remember the name of the band.
- 4:26SPEAKER_12: It's been a while.
- 4:27SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 4:28SPEAKER_12: That was a couple years ago.
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: It was a couple years ago.
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:31SPEAKER_09: No clue.
- 4:31SPEAKER_09: They were really good, I remember.
- 4:32SPEAKER_09: They were really good.
- 4:34SPEAKER_09: Um I I'd thought about calling it who dis.
- 4:39SPEAKER_09: Like who dis?
- 4:40SPEAKER_09: Who dis?
- 4:40SPEAKER_09: But I don't know.
- 4:41SPEAKER_09: Is that is that too too I don't know.
- 4:45SPEAKER_12: Well, Brian and Doug probably react.
- 4:48SPEAKER_12: We probably don't know.
- 4:50SPEAKER_12: Or we probably do.
- 4:52SPEAKER_12: We don't know.
- 4:52SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 4:53SPEAKER_12: Well we'll think of something.
- 4:55SPEAKER_09: We'll think of something.
- 4:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we'll think of something.
- 4:56SPEAKER_09: Anyway, that that'll be up here in in just a couple minutes.
- 4:58SPEAKER_09: But but the first thing I want to do uh as we get the podcast going is share a little something because um I think it was towards the beginning of the year, maybe?
- 5:10SPEAKER_09: Maybe a couple months into t 2026.
- 5:14SPEAKER_09: Um I was approached by a young lady who was very special to me.
- 5:22SPEAKER_09: And she said Is it related?
- 5:25SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 5:27SPEAKER_09: Uh now.
- 5:31SPEAKER_09: Um she said she wanted to do something special.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: She wanted she wanted to write a song.
- 5:36SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah, I know that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_09: And she wanted my help to uh write the song and and how would we go about doing that?
- 5:44SPEAKER_09: So uh and I've done this a couple times before uh with people and um she sent me I I I told her I said just put your thoughts down.
- 5:55SPEAKER_09: You know, just just just write what you want to say and I'll kind of arrange it um and make it make it flow.
- 6:05SPEAKER_12: You know, you get your Harry Potter wand out and you're like Avaka musical.
- 6:10SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 6:11SPEAKER_12: And it's a song.
- 6:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_12: Because you have that power.
- 6:14SPEAKER_12: That's like your Hogwarts power.
- 6:17SPEAKER_09: I don't know about that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_09: But so so most of the words in this song are hers.
- 6:24SPEAKER_09: Um I may have massaged a thing or thing or two here or there.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: That's not what you why did your mind go here?
- 6:31SPEAKER_09: You are twelve.
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: Massage the words.
- 6:36SPEAKER_12: Um how does that feel?
- 6:42SPEAKER_12: Do you like that word?
- 6:43SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 6:44SPEAKER_12: That's a good word.
- 6:46SPEAKER_12: She's gonna be listening to this.
- 6:47SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 6:48SPEAKER_12: It's still funny.
- 6:52SPEAKER_09: So uh I don't think I added any line.
- 6:55SPEAKER_09: Maybe I might have added a line or two, but most of the I would say eighty maybe ninety percent, or maybe even ninety-five percent of the words are hers.
- 7:04SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 7:05SPEAKER_09: And I wrote uh and she told me what kind of vibe she wanted.
- 7:11SPEAKER_09: Um and so I wrote a piece of music, and essentially she looked at the words and sang to the music, and so she she made up the melody.
- 7:22SPEAKER_09: And so what I'm talking about is my uh my daughter-in-law, Kristen.
- 7:29SPEAKER_09: Uh so we wrote this for their uh second year anniversary.
- 7:35SPEAKER_09: Uh her and my son Jude.
- 7:38SPEAKER_09: We missed it because uh w the song was written, but we could not get together to record her voice in time.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: It was always you know, they travel a lot, they're gonna downstate, and and when they are here, I'm doing something, you know.
- 7:54SPEAKER_09: So so but uh she finally kicked Jude out on uh Saturday and I went over there and and she sang it.
- 8:03SPEAKER_09: And so this is the debut.
- 8:05SPEAKER_09: I don't know uh I I called it, I gave it a title.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: Um I don't know if that's what Kristen wants to call it, but um she can yell at me afterwards.
- 8:18SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 8:19SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know, but the but the debut is is happening right now because I think, if I'm not mistaken, um Jude is going to be listening to this podcast.
- 8:27SPEAKER_09: That's how he's going to hear about this song.
- 8:29SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 8:30SPEAKER_12: Um so Jude uh this So we will be we will be playing it in its entirety.
- 8:34SPEAKER_09: We will be playing it in its entirety.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 8:37SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: So this is uh Kristen Mojer uh and and me.
- 8:44SPEAKER_09: And this is a song that we wrote called With Your Love, and it is for my son Jude for their second wedding anniversary.
- 8:54SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: When I looked up and saw a boy I thought was kind.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: I wanted to know you and I move and say All I know your big blue eyes they pierce my soul We were hanging out with friends, you're still not mine, but I kept you in the corner of my eye before you left for college fell for you and two years later you fell to I saved my health.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: I saved my heart you my place to When I fell apart.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: You heard me love Even now you still give me a lot of flies.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: I love you in every way.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: That implies I can feel you every time.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: Baby cries, all I know is big blue eyes are pierced my soul.
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: I saved my hand I saved my home.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: You my place to land when I fell up.
- 11:27SPEAKER_04: You hew you are you have mercy on me endlessly.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: I loved you from the star, even in heaven, you always have my heart.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: I send I saved my heart.
- 12:24SPEAKER_04: You have my place to land What?
- 13:17SPEAKER_12: She has a hypnotizing voice.
- 13:18SPEAKER_12: That's really, really good.
- 13:20SPEAKER_12: It is, isn't it?
- 13:21SPEAKER_12: That's that's I okay, I've known that girl for years.
- 13:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 13:25SPEAKER_12: Never knew she could swing.
- 13:26SPEAKER_12: Sorry to sing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_09: Sing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_09: She uh and and my wife is always like she should be singing, you know, more.
- 13:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:33SPEAKER_12: She should be singing all the time.
- 13:35SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_09: Um and and she's gonna hear this, and and and um the argument what from her was because she's she's she lacks a little bit of confidence.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: Um I get that.
- 13:45SPEAKER_09: But when we were recording it, she's like, and I played it for her, she's like, Could you turn my voice down a little bit?
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: And so I did, and she liked it.
- 13:53SPEAKER_12: Okay, and I and and then I my my initial reaction would have been like, nah, brah.
- 13:58SPEAKER_12: Well, I just heard it in the headphones and the piano's too loud.
- 14:00SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_12: She needs to come up.
- 14:02SPEAKER_12: She needs to be more.
- 14:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_09: And and we can fix that, you know, but the yeah, the piano was was overpowering her a couple times.
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: So um but you know, as when you're doing it, you don't pick up on that stuff.
- 14:14SPEAKER_12: No, no, no, yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_12: It's a it's a it's it when you do it, is it's a completely different thing from the finished product.
- 14:20SPEAKER_12: It's true.
- 14:20SPEAKER_12: Uh quote unquote finished product.
- 14:22SPEAKER_09: Because you have to take a break from it.
- 14:23SPEAKER_09: You know, you have to step away from it and you know and then come back and listen to it.
- 14:26SPEAKER_09: And it's like, yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_09: And and that's the really kind of the first time I listened to it uh since we recorded it.
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: We recorded it, I mixed it, and and I sent it to her.
- 14:36SPEAKER_09: And uh I mean it I think it still sounds good, but yeah, she could definitely come up or the piano could come down.
- 14:42SPEAKER_12: Yeah, either or.
- 14:43SPEAKER_09: Um yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_09: So but yeah, so Jude, that was for you, bud.
- 14:46SPEAKER_09: Uh that was fantastic.
- 14:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:48SPEAKER_09: Fantastic.
- 14:49SPEAKER_09: I think she did a fantastic job.
- 14:50SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 14:51SPEAKER_09: And I uh I there's the the music uh lends itself to big production, like strings.
- 15:00SPEAKER_12: Well, yeah, I mean you because you're you when you're listening to it, you can you can hear, you know, from a musical perspective, you're like, oh, you know you know it would go really well if you're gonna be able to do that.
- 15:10SPEAKER_09: You can hear orchestration, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_12: And that that's that song screams for strings.
- 15:15SPEAKER_09: I uh I had I had originally done um a version that had some like percussion in it and it was I I I would hear it.
- 15:25SPEAKER_11: I hear it now.
- 15:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I would stay away from percussion.
- 15:28SPEAKER_09: But she wanted just piano.
- 15:29SPEAKER_09: There's a bass guitar in there, but she wanted just piano.
- 15:32SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_09: And it works.
- 15:34SPEAKER_09: I mean she's I think she's right there, but it does scream for some strings.
- 15:37SPEAKER_12: Yeah, some screen strings.
- 15:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_12: Like especially like after that la that bridge.
- 15:44SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 15:45SPEAKER_09: The last chorus.
- 15:46SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that last chorus, that that needs strings, man.
- 15:48SPEAKER_12: That would just that would just be like chef's kiss.
- 15:51SPEAKER_09: You know, I agree.
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: So uh happy anniversary, you crazy kid.
- 15:56SPEAKER_09: Two years and and one child so far.
- 15:59SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 16:00SPEAKER_09: Um, so that would that that's uh that's yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_09: Hopefully that uh he's uh surprised and hopefully he So he's not he literally has no idea.
- 16:10SPEAKER_09: No idea till he listens to the She's been going behind his back.
- 16:13SPEAKER_09: Well, we've been going behind his back.
- 16:15SPEAKER_09: Um, you know, he's should be like uh he's going to the movies tonight.
- 16:19SPEAKER_09: Can we get together and write?
- 16:21unknown: Sure.
- 16:21SPEAKER_09: So or practice the song or whatever.
- 16:24SPEAKER_09: And then Saturday I I've got him taking Peter to the fair.
- 16:29SPEAKER_09: So he took the baby, you know, and she's like, I'm gonna stay home.
- 16:32SPEAKER_09: And uh I can't imagine what he was thinking.
- 16:34SPEAKER_09: But he took the baby.
- 16:35SPEAKER_12: Well, he's probably just like ah, she just needs a break.
- 16:38SPEAKER_12: Could be.
- 16:38SPEAKER_12: I mean, you know, he he's probably you know clueless like most guys are.
- 16:41SPEAKER_09: So he took the baby to the fair for like three hours and we recorded the song.
- 16:46SPEAKER_09: So it was good.
- 16:47SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 16:47SPEAKER_09: It was good.
- 16:48SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, so happy anniversary to those those k those two.
- 16:52SPEAKER_09: Um crazy kids.
- 16:54SPEAKER_09: Crazy kids.
- 16:56SPEAKER_09: Um, so do we want to move?
- 16:58SPEAKER_09: Let's move on to um um painter Bob.
- 17:01SPEAKER_09: Bob Bob the Painter.
- 17:02SPEAKER_09: Bob the Painter! Bob the Painter.
- 17:04SPEAKER_09: He wanted us to see.
- 17:06SPEAKER_12: Bob the Oh, it's Bob the Builder.
- 17:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I know Bob the Painter.
- 17:09SPEAKER_12: What's a Bob the Builder song?
- 17:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, we should like we should do a song.
- 17:14SPEAKER_12: We should have like a song for Bob the Painter.
- 17:16SPEAKER_12: What's a Bob the Builder song?
- 17:18SPEAKER_12: I'll tell you.
- 17:22SPEAKER_12: Because we met that guy.
- 17:24SPEAKER_09: Yes, we did.
- 17:25SPEAKER_09: He was on the same talk show that we were on.
- 17:26SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 17:27SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 17:28SPEAKER_09: Full theme song.
- 17:29SPEAKER_09: Galko.
- 17:30SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 17:30SPEAKER_09: Galko.
- 17:31SPEAKER_12: That is Galko.
- 17:34SPEAKER_12: Like a dude with a cargo's headphones.
- 17:39SPEAKER_12: Bop the painter.
- 17:56SPEAKER_09: I want to get the song that he wanted here.
- 17:58SPEAKER_09: The song.
- 17:59SPEAKER_11: Bob the painter! We can't paint it! Bob the painter.
- 18:04SPEAKER_11: Yes, we can.
- 18:08SPEAKER_09: Bob the painter.
- 18:10SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 18:11SPEAKER_09: So Bob the Painter wanted us to check out the band.
- 18:16SPEAKER_09: And I'm uh am I gonna pronounce this right?
- 18:21SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 18:22SPEAKER_12: I don't know the name.
- 18:23SPEAKER_12: Pussifer?
- 18:27SPEAKER_12: Pussifer?
- 18:29SPEAKER_12: Is that the is it uh Maynard James Keenan?
- 18:32SPEAKER_09: I have no idea.
- 18:33SPEAKER_09: I don't know the band.
- 18:35SPEAKER_12: I think that's his other band.
- 18:37SPEAKER_09: Is it really?
- 18:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 18:39SPEAKER_09: Uh the Humbling River is the one he wanted us to start with.
- 18:44SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 18:45SPEAKER_12: Um I'm thinking of.
- 18:48SPEAKER_09: Well, I know nothing about the band, so let's do that.
- 18:50SPEAKER_09: Let's find out a little bit about the band.
- 18:53SPEAKER_09: Uh that looks like Maynard James Keenan.
- 18:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 18:56SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 18:56SPEAKER_12: Yeah, this is his other band.
- 18:58SPEAKER_09: Uh he said I told him when I told him that we were gonna do it uh tonight, he said, um you may like it, you may hate it.
- 19:08SPEAKER_09: If you don't know much about the band, better you wait till after anyway.
- 19:12SPEAKER_09: Okay, so uh yes, American Rock Group formed in LA by Maynard James Keenan.
- 19:18SPEAKER_09: Um later frequent collaborator collaborators Matt Mitchell and Karina Round became permanent members.
- 19:27SPEAKER_09: Uh uh Is it Puffer?
- 19:29SPEAKER_12: I think it's Pucifer.
- 19:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_09: Um Their original name was Umlot, a premier improvisational hardcore band.
- 19:40SPEAKER_09: The name Pucifer was first publicized as a fictional band in the first episode of Mr.
- 19:44SPEAKER_09: Show, including Keenan and Adam Jones as members.
- 19:48SPEAKER_09: Alright, well, let's just play a couple of these that uh uh Bob the Painter wants us to um to listen to.
- 19:54SPEAKER_09: So this is one called The Humbling River.
- 20:26SPEAKER_05: Some falling by the children cross the river Brave the Forest, Brave the Stone Brave the icy wind and fire.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Brave the mire.
- 21:12SPEAKER_09: Waiting for it to kick in.
- 21:13SPEAKER_09: Does it kick in?
- 21:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's do you know the spin?
- 21:16SPEAKER_09: I know the spin, yes, you do.
- 21:17SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 21:18SPEAKER_12: It's it's it's it's like tool and uh perfect circle.
- 21:24SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 21:25SPEAKER_12: They they build they build a lot.
- 21:29SPEAKER_12: Okay, so you may come to a course, you may not.
- 21:33SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 21:34SPEAKER_12: Who knows?
- 21:38SPEAKER_12: But it sounds like it's building.
- 22:04SPEAKER_05: A face, the quakes, the wind, the fire.
- 22:13SPEAKER_09: He's got two more songs he wants us to listen to, so I'm not gonna play the whole thing here.
- 22:17SPEAKER_12: Well, why don't we hold off on those so we have material?
- 22:21SPEAKER_09: Material?
- 22:22SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_09: Well he had another band for next week.
- 22:24SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's fine.
- 22:25SPEAKER_12: I mean, we this will give us something to do every week.
- 22:29SPEAKER_12: You see what I'm saying?
- 22:30SPEAKER_09: Play another song from Pussifer?
- 22:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_09: On top of another band?
- 22:39SPEAKER_12: No.
- 22:40SPEAKER_12: Just we'll work our we'll work our way through those those songs.
- 22:43SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 22:43SPEAKER_12: So we got what's you got?
- 22:44SPEAKER_12: Like three of these or two of these?
- 22:46SPEAKER_12: We got three songs from Pussifer.
- 22:47SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 22:48SPEAKER_12: So that gives us three weeks of uh material.
- 22:52SPEAKER_12: I think it's brilliant.
- 22:58SPEAKER_09: I like this.
- 23:36SPEAKER_09: This is Americana.
- 23:41SPEAKER_12: I mean, you never know what you're gonna get.
- 23:43SPEAKER_12: I mean, that gotta go in any direction.
- 23:49SPEAKER_09: This is an Americana stuff.
- 23:57SPEAKER_09: I mean, you can see mumper is not really you're right, it didn't go anywhere, it didn't build anything, but it it's hypnotizing.
- 24:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_09: That's uh called the humbling river.
- 24:41SPEAKER_09: Pustifer.
- 24:45SPEAKER_09: Am I pronouncing that right?
- 24:47SPEAKER_09: Pucifer.
- 24:48SPEAKER_12: Pus first.
- 24:49SPEAKER_12: Sounds right.
- 24:52SPEAKER_12: I mean we go, you know, phonetically.
- 24:54SPEAKER_12: Could be Well, if I go, if I look I mean it says pus you know, if you go pus puce, maybe it's maybe it's like a take on Lucifer, so maybe it's pucifer.
- 25:05SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 25:12SPEAKER_12: I don't think it's an actual word.
- 25:16SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 25:16SPEAKER_09: I but it it is spelled phonetically here.
- 25:22SPEAKER_09: It looks like Bussifer.
- 25:24SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 25:25SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, I guess if we if we remind ourselves, we'll hear some more from Bussifer next week.
- 25:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I mean just we'll we'll make it a segment.
- 25:34SPEAKER_12: You know, Bob Bob the Painter.
- 25:36SPEAKER_09: Bob the Painter, or is this the is this the the who-dis?
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: Because we're gonna do more than Bob, right?
- 25:42SPEAKER_09: Who dis! Bob the painter!
- 25:47SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 25:49SPEAKER_12: I think we just came up with a title.
- 25:51SPEAKER_12: No, I just can't know.
- 25:52SPEAKER_12: It's not very he's not very good.
- 25:55SPEAKER_12: Um but I like it.
- 25:56SPEAKER_12: I I like it.
- 25:57SPEAKER_12: Yeah, no.
- 25:58SPEAKER_12: I'm not a huge fan of of uh of Possifer.
- 26:01SPEAKER_12: Um because I like you know, I love Tool and I love Perfect Circle, but I'm not a huge fan of see I'm not a huge fan of Tool or Perfect Circle.
- 26:09SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 26:10SPEAKER_09: I I don't mind them, but it's not my I I admire uh them because it the music that they make, Tool and a perfect circle, is different.
- 26:20SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_09: I mean it's it's odd times and it's um very progressive and and heavy.
- 26:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_09: And it's good music.
- 26:28SPEAKER_09: I just it's not my thing, you know.
- 26:29SPEAKER_09: It's not your thing.
- 26:30SPEAKER_09: It's not my thing.
- 26:30SPEAKER_09: Well that music is not my thing.
- 26:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you know, I like I like Well you're not really a prog rock guy.
- 26:34SPEAKER_12: Not really.
- 26:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, not really.
- 26:36SPEAKER_09: Um except I mean Toto is uh you know, Toto can be considered prog rock in some in some instances.
- 26:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:45SPEAKER_09: Not their ballad stuff, obviously, but a lot of the stuff from the 70s and like George the uh uh St.
- 26:52SPEAKER_12: George.
- 26:53SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 26:53SPEAKER_11: Um what's the name of that song?
- 26:55SPEAKER_09: I know what you're talking about.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: You know what I'm talking about?
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I do.
- 26:57SPEAKER_09: St.
- 26:57SPEAKER_09: George and the Dragon.
- 26:58SPEAKER_12: St.
- 26:58SPEAKER_12: George and the Dragon, yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_12: I mean songs like that, I mean you're like Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: What is happening?
- 27:05SPEAKER_09: Uh speaking of progressive, uh, you've heard about this.
- 27:08SPEAKER_09: I know I know you have because um we I'm Wicked's Mac.
- 27:13SPEAKER_09: Uh I mentioned it to you when you walked in.
- 27:16SPEAKER_09: You're just like, yeah, I can't wait to see it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_09: Uh I'm really excited about this.
- 27:19SPEAKER_09: Canada's CBC TV Network has announced a new documentary about late Rush drummer Neil Peart to be aired next month.
- 27:27SPEAKER_09: Uh it's called Neil Peart, no one's disciple.
- 27:30SPEAKER_09: It's gonna talk about the history of um Mr.
- 27:33SPEAKER_09: Peart, um he's a who's a musician, lyricist, and author who retired in 2015 and died five years later at age 67.
- 27:41SPEAKER_09: Uh, three big name drummers, Stuart Copeland, Chad Smith, and Danny Carey, speaking of Tool, uh will be seen jamming with surviving members Getty Lee and Alex Lifeson.
- 27:52SPEAKER_12: I am so surprised Mike Portnoy is not in that list.
- 27:55SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 27:55SPEAKER_12: That surprised me too.
- 27:56SPEAKER_12: That surprises me.
- 27:57SPEAKER_09: Um uh Stuart Copeland was a longtime friend of Pearl's, but he never played with Lee and Lifeson before the filming.
- 28:03SPEAKER_09: Chad Smith and Danny Carey both performed alongside them at the second Taylor Hawkins Memorial concert in September of 2022.
- 28:11SPEAKER_08: Was it that long ago?
- 28:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:13unknown: Holy cow.
- 28:14SPEAKER_09: Man, that flew by.
- 28:15SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: Time's flying.
- 28:17SPEAKER_09: Fall of 2022 is when they did those concerts.
- 28:20SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that was like almost that was four years ago.
- 28:21SPEAKER_09: That's crazy.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:23SPEAKER_09: Um, let's see.
- 28:24SPEAKER_09: To sum up, Neil Purt is a daunting task, CBC wrote.
- 28:28SPEAKER_09: He was famous for blurring the lines between progressive rock, jazz pop, and heavy metal.
- 28:32SPEAKER_09: He was the ultimate live performer who crafted electric lyrics for the Canadian bands, huge hits for other drummers.
- 28:38SPEAKER_09: He was an icon, role model, and mentor.
- 28:40SPEAKER_09: And Doug, you are one of those.
- 28:42SPEAKER_12: Yes, I am in that list.
- 28:44SPEAKER_09: Um, so again, they said it's going to be airing next month.
- 28:47SPEAKER_12: Well, it's probably gonna be around his birthday, because his birthday is next month.
- 28:50SPEAKER_12: Okay, well, that makes sense.
- 28:52SPEAKER_09: So uh and this uh article came out August 6th, which was last week.
- 28:55SPEAKER_09: So, yeah, September.
- 28:57SPEAKER_09: It'll be in September.
- 28:58SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 28:59SPEAKER_09: Uh I'm excited about it.
- 29:00SPEAKER_09: I am so psyched about this.
- 29:02SPEAKER_09: Now, speaking of Rush, while we're on Rush, there's another headline, why Rush Isn't Thinking About New Music.
- 29:10SPEAKER_09: Um I meant to tell you, I have been listening to um one of my favorite uh new guitars.
- 29:17SPEAKER_09: She's not new, she's been around for a while, but I just discovered her.
- 29:21SPEAKER_09: Um and it's instrumental stuff.
- 29:23SPEAKER_09: It's like fusion.
- 29:24SPEAKER_12: Is she like one of those Instagram YouTuber?
- 29:27SPEAKER_12: No, no.
- 29:29SPEAKER_12: So she's legit.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: She's legit.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Actually, I should probably play her use some of her stuff.
- 29:33SPEAKER_09: She uh is from Brazil.
- 29:35SPEAKER_09: Her name is uh Laurie Basilio.
- 29:38SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 29:38SPEAKER_09: Or Basillo?
- 29:39SPEAKER_09: It's spelled Basilio, but it's uh uh she's friggin' amazing.
- 29:44SPEAKER_09: Uh but it's it's it's stuff a la Steve Lukather.
- 29:48SPEAKER_09: Or or maybe even it's not heavy, heavy stuff.
- 29:52SPEAKER_09: Um does she have a band or is she just like a solo?
- 29:56SPEAKER_09: Well here's why here's why I'm I bring her up.
- 29:58SPEAKER_09: It's because um I've been listening to her and she does does she do original stuff?
- 30:03SPEAKER_09: It's original stuff.
- 30:04SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 30:04SPEAKER_09: It's original stuff.
- 30:05SPEAKER_09: Um but Annika Niles plays with her.
- 30:07SPEAKER_12: Oh, okay.
- 30:07SPEAKER_12: Well that makes sense.
- 30:08SPEAKER_09: Uh Annika Niles and you would know um another drummer.
- 30:14SPEAKER_09: Um I know lots of drummers.
- 30:17SPEAKER_09: Um holy cow.
- 30:18SPEAKER_09: It's I'm blanking right now.
- 30:20SPEAKER_09: Uh Ringo.
- 30:23SPEAKER_09: No.
- 30:23SPEAKER_09: Keith Moon.
- 30:24SPEAKER_09: Here's a song called Seasons.
- 30:26SPEAKER_12: Charlie Watts.
- 30:28SPEAKER_09: Um trying to see who who put who's playing drums on this.
- 30:37SPEAKER_09: What is the guy's name?
- 30:39SPEAKER_09: This guy.
- 30:40SPEAKER_09: Do you know him?
- 30:54SPEAKER_09: Session guy.
- 30:55SPEAKER_09: Session guy.
- 30:56SPEAKER_12: He looks familiar, but I can't I can't place a name.
- 30:58SPEAKER_09: Oh my god, it says here.
- 31:00SPEAKER_09: He's a big name.
- 31:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Vinny Caluda.
- 31:03SPEAKER_12: Oh, Vin Kha.
- 31:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_12: Wow, it doesn't even look like him.
- 31:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:09SPEAKER_12: But what would be the last time I saw a picture of Vinny in there?
- 31:12SPEAKER_12: What would what would you call this music?
- 31:14SPEAKER_12: It's very Steve Vai-ish.
- 31:17SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 31:18SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 31:18SPEAKER_12: Very Joe Satriani ish.
- 31:20SPEAKER_09: See, no, I call it like fusion rock.
- 31:22SPEAKER_12: Yeah, which it's Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
- 31:28SPEAKER_12: Yeah, this is I would put I would put this up there with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani.
- 31:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and this is this is her signature guitar.
- 31:37SPEAKER_09: Um, and she's she's just amazing.
- 31:40SPEAKER_09: I've been listening to her stuff for like weeks now.
- 31:42SPEAKER_09: And uh, but I saw uh one a song came up on my on my car of hers, and it said uh uh Larry Basilio, Annika Niles.
- 31:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was it was noise.
- 31:54SPEAKER_09: I'm curious if uh let me just see if I type in Annika.
- 31:58SPEAKER_09: If if you're living under a rock, Annika Niles is is now playing drums with Rush.
- 32:02SPEAKER_09: That's why that's how that's how I made the the uh connection.
- 32:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, look at this.
- 32:07SPEAKER_12: Right there.
- 32:08SPEAKER_12: Here we go.
- 32:09SPEAKER_12: What's the song called Skyline?
- 32:11SPEAKER_12: Skyline.
- 32:13SPEAKER_12: Oh, they're hugging, they must be friends.
- 32:34SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so this is Danica's wheelhouse right here.
- 32:37SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: She's got great tone.
- 32:43SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 32:43SPEAKER_12: And it's just very it's very clean, yeah, and very crisp.
- 32:47SPEAKER_09: And as as Joko, it's a good touch.
- 32:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's got a good touch.
- 32:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:55SPEAKER_09: And of course they're both cute.
- 32:56SPEAKER_12: Oh, that doesn't hurt at all.
- 32:59SPEAKER_09: It doesn't, but yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_09: She's she's really, really uh I don't know, I'm digging her stuff lately.
- 33:07SPEAKER_09: And so that's the only reason I bring her up is because of uh the Anakin's connection.
- 33:11SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 33:11SPEAKER_09: Um but uh Rush's uh Rush's Getty Lee said that he knew there was only a certain amount of time left in the band's runtime after he and Alex Lifeson ended their 11-year hiatus and returned to action.
- 33:21SPEAKER_09: They both said they'd never worked so hard as they prepared their set with Anakin's and keyboarders Lore and Gold.
- 33:27SPEAKER_09: We had a schedule, we laid out what our rehearsal schedule was going to be, with an end date being May 2026.
- 33:34SPEAKER_09: Uh, and 14 months at the beginning, we thought, oh, that's plenty of time, we'll get it done.
- 33:37SPEAKER_09: The last couple of weeks we're like, oh my gosh.
- 33:39SPEAKER_09: They didn't say gosh.
- 33:41SPEAKER_09: Uh, we gotta really focus on this and really put it together.
- 33:43SPEAKER_09: And we see the fruits of that because their tour is just killing.
- 33:47SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah, it's it's it's it's wiping every other tour off the map.
- 33:51SPEAKER_09: Uh she had to learn something like 43 songs over the course of a year, and those are not easy drum parts to learn.
- 33:57SPEAKER_09: No.
- 33:57SPEAKER_09: Uh she was working hard, I think, if she's ever worked on anything.
- 34:00SPEAKER_09: She would work really hard on her own, then she would come to Toronto sporadically, and we would work really hard together.
- 34:06SPEAKER_09: Uh and I think she found it much easier to work with us in person because there's a chemistry that we have, and we can reassure her.
- 34:12SPEAKER_09: Uh, this part is right, this part is this long, and no, you have to play this part this way.
- 34:17SPEAKER_09: Um I'm looking for the part where they talk about new music.
- 34:26SPEAKER_09: Uh I'm ecstatic that we're playing so well and that the musicians that we've chosen to join us on the stage have gelled the way they have.
- 34:31SPEAKER_09: I'm not pretending when you see me smiling up there.
- 34:33SPEAKER_09: It's a joyous moment.
- 34:34SPEAKER_09: Uh asked if there was a prospect of new music, he said no.
- 34:39SPEAKER_09: We have enough to do.
- 34:40SPEAKER_09: We're still trying to remember the old songs and play them, which is fair.
- 34:45SPEAKER_12: Makes sense, man.
- 34:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:46SPEAKER_09: Um so uh and the reason I I bring that up is because there's another article.
- 34:53SPEAKER_09: You know, Def Leopard is making an album.
- 34:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they're working on a new album, and they have no fears of of putting out a new album.
- 35:01SPEAKER_12: No, they they've been doing it for quite a while.
- 35:02SPEAKER_12: I suppose.
- 35:03SPEAKER_12: They just keep every couple years you see a new album.
- 35:05SPEAKER_09: Nikki Six of Motley Crue uh says that Motley Crue is is not likely to record another album.
- 35:11SPEAKER_12: That's fine.
- 35:11SPEAKER_09: I know it's fine.
- 35:12SPEAKER_09: It's it's I don't care either.
- 35:13SPEAKER_12: But hey Nikki, it's okay, man.
- 35:16SPEAKER_09: Uh okay.
- 35:17SPEAKER_09: He preferred to record a single song with the band whenever the right moment came up rather than the extended effort of tracking an LP.
- 35:23SPEAKER_09: Um their most recent release was a couple years ago called Canceled.
- 35:28SPEAKER_09: It was an EP.
- 35:29SPEAKER_09: Uh it contained two new tracks and a Beastie Boys cover.
- 35:33SPEAKER_09: He says, I know fans don't want to hear this, but I don't believe in making full-length records anymore at this time.
- 35:37SPEAKER_09: Uh the amount of work that goes into an LP, if you're doing ten songs, you gotta write twenty, and you better hope five of them are stellar.
- 35:44SPEAKER_09: It's a lot of lyrics, a lot of notes, a lot of chord changes, a lot of time in the studio.
- 35:49SPEAKER_09: Um, and it's not just because of their age, uh, you know, both Def Leopard and Motley Crew.
- 35:55SPEAKER_09: I mean, they're they're not young as young as they were.
- 35:57SPEAKER_09: No.
- 35:58SPEAKER_09: Uh and it is a lot of work.
- 35:59SPEAKER_09: Uh, but I'm talking about he he's not the first one to say this.
- 36:03SPEAKER_09: That nobody buys f records.
- 36:06SPEAKER_09: No.
- 36:06SPEAKER_09: So why would they?
- 36:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah, why bother?
- 36:09SPEAKER_09: Def Leopard is doing it, so why is Def Leopard doing it?
- 36:11SPEAKER_09: Because it's Def Leopard.
- 36:12SPEAKER_09: Because they can?
- 36:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:14SPEAKER_09: Uh because they are creative and are trying to stay creative, try to follow the muse.
- 36:19SPEAKER_12: I think they're just trying to keep on the path.
- 36:22SPEAKER_12: Well, that's the thing.
- 36:24SPEAKER_09: That's the thing, uh, you know, that's interesting to me is a band like Def Leopard, they don't have to work.
- 36:30SPEAKER_12: No, I mean they could have you know packed it up years ago.
- 36:33SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 36:34SPEAKER_09: They could they could live off what they've made, which is millions.
- 36:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_12: They could have stopped after adrenalized and I'd have been like cool.
- 36:42SPEAKER_09: They can they could they could go out and tour on their old songs.
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, easy.
- 36:47SPEAKER_09: Which which they do, but they throw in stuff from Diamond Star Halo, which is their last album.
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: And I think I think it's exciting to write new music.
- 36:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:00SPEAKER_09: You know, that that way that you you are on top of your game.
- 37:05SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 37:05SPEAKER_09: You know, and and it's when you take those new songs out and and play them, um but I you know I don't know.
- 37:15SPEAKER_09: If there if nobody's going to buy it Actually a band like Deflepper doesn't care because they don't say they don't they don't need you to buy it.
- 37:23SPEAKER_12: They don't they don't care, they don't need it.
- 37:24SPEAKER_12: You know, they if you buy it great.
- 37:26SPEAKER_12: If you don't, oh well.
- 37:27SPEAKER_12: How about an up-and-coming artist?
- 37:29SPEAKER_12: Well that's a whole other story.
- 37:30SPEAKER_09: But if you look at the like the especially the country genre, uh up and coming artists, they they aren't even releasing full-length LPs.
- 37:39SPEAKER_09: They're releasing three songs.
- 37:42SPEAKER_12: Well, the field is crowded.
- 37:43SPEAKER_12: I'm I'm sorry, but it's country is a crowded house right now.
- 37:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_09: Well, it's not just country, it's everything.
- 37:48SPEAKER_12: You know, if you're if you're last of the bowl, you're gonna starve.
- 37:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:52SPEAKER_12: You know what I'm saying?
- 37:53SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_12: So yeah, I mean, yeah, you can you can be out there and put a put a song out every once in a while.
- 37:59SPEAKER_12: If it catches fire, then go for more.
- 38:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 38:03SPEAKER_12: But why would why would you put out a full album while you're in the, you know, as the run of the litter.
- 38:10SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 38:11SPEAKER_12: W why bother?
- 38:12SPEAKER_09: Right, because nobody's buying them.
- 38:13SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 38:14SPEAKER_09: They're they're at the end.
- 38:14SPEAKER_12: They're just gonna stream it.
- 38:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:17SPEAKER_09: And uh speaking of streaming, uh at least two radio stations that I know of uh in California have fired all of their staff.
- 38:27SPEAKER_09: Makes sense in the bat in the past two, two, three weeks.
- 38:30SPEAKER_09: And they're they're running like AI, you know, just without you know, and it's it's just the way it's going.
- 38:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:40SPEAKER_09: You know, it's the writing is on the wall.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: Uh which is really, really sad to me.
- 38:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it is.
- 38:45SPEAKER_12: You know, it's just it's it's an end of an error.
- 38:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, it's taking over everything.
- 38:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_09: It really is.
- 38:50SPEAKER_12: And it's Well, I was watching uh Phil from Wings of Pegasus, and speaking of Motley Crue, yeah, he was uh he was watching a video of Vince Neal quote unquote singing.
- 39:01SPEAKER_12: Singing, yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it uh it was terri it was it was so it was it was it was a pre-recorded track.
- 39:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_12: Because he played like two or three different from two or three different shows, right?
- 39:12SPEAKER_12: And he lined them all up and they were like perfectly aligned.
- 39:16SPEAKER_12: So I was like, well, that's what you're getting.
- 39:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_12: So but I was also watching him today, and he was this was from a couple months ago.
- 39:24SPEAKER_12: Somebody had sent him a Sir Paul video of him on uh Saturday Night Live.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 39:30SPEAKER_12: Doing help and everybody was like, Oh boy, he sounds awful.
- 39:34SPEAKER_12: He's getting he's getting old, blah blah blah blah.
- 39:36SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 39:36SPEAKER_12: But Phil was like, Well, yeah, but at least he's doing it live.
- 39:41SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 39:42SPEAKER_12: He's not he's it's not auto-tuned, his n it's not live auto-tuned, it's not pitch corrected, it's just him.
- 39:50SPEAKER_12: And you could tell it was him.
- 39:52SPEAKER_09: We've talked about how I I listened to a couple of uh tracks from his latest album, and his voice is is is changing.
- 39:58SPEAKER_09: He's eighty something, eighty something, yeah.
- 40:02SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 40:03SPEAKER_12: Something like that.
- 40:04SPEAKER_12: But yeah, but yeah, I mean, I mean, the man the fact that the man can still sing at 82 years old is the way he does, right, is a gosh darn miracle anyway.
- 40:13SPEAKER_12: So, you know 84.
- 40:15SPEAKER_12: 84, yeah.
- 40:16SPEAKER_12: So there you go.
- 40:17SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but uh yeah, Phil, you know, usually when Phil puts a video up, it's like, oh, he's a you know, oh look, it's it's auto-tuned because you can see it's right, you know, you can hear it snapping the to the note and everything.
- 40:28SPEAKER_12: And he was playing, he's like, no, this is great.
- 40:30SPEAKER_12: I don't know what you guys are complaining about because this is awesome.
- 40:32SPEAKER_12: He's doing it live.
- 40:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 40:34SPEAKER_12: What are you complaining about?
- 40:35SPEAKER_12: It's Saturday night live.
- 40:37SPEAKER_09: That's what you want, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:38SPEAKER_12: So for sure.
- 40:40SPEAKER_09: Uh well, uh nice dovetail because here we go.
- 40:42SPEAKER_09: We're gonna we're gonna play a little, we're gonna challenge you a little bit, Dovetail.
- 40:46unknown: Yay!
- 40:47SPEAKER_09: Um Ultimate Classic Rock has put out an article called Ten Facts About the Beatles Revolver You Might Not Know.
- 40:55SPEAKER_09: It's a great album.
- 40:56SPEAKER_09: Okay, so I'm just gonna read the fact uh and then you can either you can tell me if you know it, uh, and you can tell me about it if you do.
- 41:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 41:06SPEAKER_09: Uh and if not, I'll be like I'll enlighten you.
- 41:09SPEAKER_12: We'll like, ooh, we'll learn something.
- 41:11SPEAKER_09: So let's do this.
- 41:12SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 41:13SPEAKER_09: Number one The Beatles originally wanted to record the album at Stax in Memphis.
- 41:19SPEAKER_12: Yes, I did know that.
- 41:20SPEAKER_09: You did know that.
- 41:20SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 41:21SPEAKER_12: Well, that was the thing back then, as everybody was going to Stacks.
- 41:23SPEAKER_12: The stones recorded at Stacks.
- 41:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you know, you know, it was just it was the thing.
- 41:27SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 41:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 41:28SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 41:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 41:29SPEAKER_09: So I don't even have to go into that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_09: So you already knew that one.
- 41:32SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 41:33SPEAKER_09: The man who took the back cover photograph also took the Beatles' infamous butcher photo.
- 41:39SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 41:40SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 41:40SPEAKER_09: You knew that.
- 41:41SPEAKER_12: That's a that's a disturbing photo.
- 41:42SPEAKER_09: Uh have you ever seen the is it right there?
- 41:45SPEAKER_09: It is, yeah.
- 41:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's just disturbing.
- 41:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 41:48SPEAKER_09: Uh Klaus Vormann is the is the photographer.
- 41:52SPEAKER_09: And yeah, that one uh they took a lot of heat for that.
- 41:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they did.
- 41:56SPEAKER_09: Um it was just it was just dark humor.
- 41:59SPEAKER_12: It really is, and it's just disturbing.
- 42:01SPEAKER_12: And it especially the raw meat.
- 42:04SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you're just like, what the what are you guys thinking?
- 42:06SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 42:07SPEAKER_12: So, but whatever.
- 42:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 42:08SPEAKER_09: Uh the guitar solo in Tax Man was not played by George Harrison.
- 42:13SPEAKER_09: I did know that.
- 42:13SPEAKER_09: You did know that.
- 42:14SPEAKER_09: Who's it played by?
- 42:15SPEAKER_12: Uh that I can't remember.
- 42:17SPEAKER_09: Uh, let's see.
- 42:19SPEAKER_09: Uh, in a lot of bands, the roles are set.
- 42:21SPEAKER_09: So-and-so plays the instrument, so-and-so plays that instrument, but the Beatles were the sort of to switch things around if it served the song, which is what happened with Tax Man.
- 42:28SPEAKER_09: That's McCartney.
- 42:29SPEAKER_09: Oh, there's all the things.
- 42:30SPEAKER_09: Playing the league guitar solo, not Harrison.
- 42:32SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 42:32SPEAKER_09: Um, he said I was pleased to have him play that bit on Tax Man.
- 42:36SPEAKER_09: If you notice, he did a uh like a little Indian bit on it for me.
- 42:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 42:41SPEAKER_09: Um, the Revolving Door of Influences, Brian Wilson edition.
- 42:46SPEAKER_09: All right, follow the chain of influence here.
- 42:47SPEAKER_09: When Brian Wilson of Beach Boys heard the Beatles' 65 album Rubber Soul, it sowed seeds of inspiration that led him to write Pet Sounds.
- 42:55SPEAKER_09: Then once the Beatles heard pet sounds, the influence flipped back around.
- 42:58SPEAKER_09: This is we've talked about this.
- 42:59SPEAKER_09: Uh McCartney loved Sgt.
- 43:01SPEAKER_12: Pepper.
- 43:02SPEAKER_09: Uh, yep.
- 43:02SPEAKER_09: McCartney loved God Only Knows and was in turn to inspire uh Here, There, and Everywhere, a ballad that appears roughly halfway through Revolver.
- 43:10SPEAKER_09: Um Peter Fonda's lyrical contribution.
- 43:14SPEAKER_09: Did you know about this?
- 43:16SPEAKER_12: I don't think so.
- 43:17SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 43:18SPEAKER_09: Speaking of influences, at least part of the lyrical inspiration for She Said She Said came from a conversation Lennon had with the actor Peter Fonda while tripping on Acid.
- 43:27SPEAKER_09: It was at a party in California.
- 43:29SPEAKER_08: No.
- 43:30SPEAKER_09: Where a variety of people were present, including members of the Birds.
- 43:33SPEAKER_09: At some point in the evening, Fonda told people that he knew what it was like to be dead.
- 43:38SPEAKER_09: When he was a child, an accidental self inflicted gunshot incident led him to technically die on the operating table in a hospital.
- 43:45SPEAKER_09: We didn't want to hear about that, Lennon would later recall in an interview.
- 43:48SPEAKER_09: Uh we were on an acid trip and the sun was shining, and the girls were dancing, and the whole thing was beautiful and sixties, and this guy, who I really didn't know, he hadn't made easy rider or anything, kept coming over.
- 44:00SPEAKER_09: Wearing shades saying, I know what it's like to be dead.
- 44:02SPEAKER_09: And we kept leaving him because he was so boring.
- 44:05SPEAKER_09: It was scary.
- 44:06SPEAKER_09: You know, when you're flying high and I know what it's like to be dead, man.
- 44:11SPEAKER_12: That's funny.
- 44:12SPEAKER_09: I did not know that.
- 44:13SPEAKER_09: I didn't know that is.
- 44:14SPEAKER_09: Uh a little help from Donovan on Yellow Submarine.
- 44:17SPEAKER_09: Did you know that?
- 44:17SPEAKER_12: I think I knew about that.
- 44:19SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 44:19SPEAKER_09: Ringo Star's Shining Moment arrives on side one of Revolver.
- 44:22SPEAKER_09: Uh Yellow Submarine, uh, Linda McCartney were the primary songwriters.
- 44:26SPEAKER_09: Another iconic 60s figure played a role.
- 44:28SPEAKER_09: Um he paid a McCartney paid a visit to Donovan around this time who made a lyrical suggestion for the song.
- 44:34SPEAKER_09: It was a very small part, and I just went into the other room and put together Sky of Blue, Sea of Green.
- 44:39SPEAKER_09: Donovan recalled in the late 80s interviewing.
- 44:42SPEAKER_09: They had always asked other people for help with a line or two, so I helped with that line.
- 44:46SPEAKER_09: He knew that I was into kids songs and I he knew I could help.
- 44:49SPEAKER_09: I'm sure he could have written the line himself, but I suppose he wanted to add a line, and I added a line.
- 44:55SPEAKER_09: So I didn't know that.
- 44:56SPEAKER_09: Sky of Blue, Sea of Green was written by Donovan.
- 44:59SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 45:00SPEAKER_09: Uh the French horn solo.
- 45:02SPEAKER_09: What can you tell me about the French horn solo?
- 45:04SPEAKER_09: In uh for no one.
- 45:07SPEAKER_09: You know anything about that?
- 45:08SPEAKER_12: I have no idea.
- 45:09SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 45:11SPEAKER_09: Uh when they found a session musician they liked, they tended to call them back for other projects.
- 45:15SPEAKER_09: Such was the case with a man named Alan Civil, who played the French horn solo in For No One.
- 45:20SPEAKER_09: That made him one of only five session musicians ever to get a named named credit on a Beatles recording.
- 45:27SPEAKER_09: The following year Sivil played on A Day in the Life from Sergeant Bever.
- 45:32SPEAKER_09: Do you know the alternate altern alternative titles for Revolver?
- 45:39SPEAKER_09: Some of them are pretty funny.
- 45:42SPEAKER_09: Do you know any of them?
- 45:43SPEAKER_12: I don't know any of 'em.
- 45:45SPEAKER_12: I know they had 'em.
- 45:46SPEAKER_12: Because that that's what they did a lot.
- 45:48SPEAKER_12: Like uh yesterday with scrambled eggs.
- 45:51SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 45:52SPEAKER_12: For you know, until they got came out the title.
- 45:54SPEAKER_12: So yeah, it was that's pretty perfect.
- 45:56SPEAKER_09: So their their sense of humor came through on some of these alternate alternative titles.
- 45:59SPEAKER_09: Freewheeling Beatles.
- 46:04SPEAKER_09: You know, the the Rolling Stones came out with a um aftermath.
- 46:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:08SPEAKER_09: While the Beatles were gonna call it after geography.
- 46:14SPEAKER_09: They also thought about calling it Abracadabra.
- 46:17SPEAKER_09: Uh Bubble and Squeak, Beatles on Safari, and Pendulum.
- 46:24SPEAKER_09: I think Revolver was a good choice.
- 46:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah, very good.
- 46:26SPEAKER_12: Pendulum's kind of cool though.
- 46:27SPEAKER_09: Uh Lennon's Jesus comments led to the promotion of Yellow Submarine instead.
- 46:32SPEAKER_09: Did you know that?
- 46:34SPEAKER_12: Led to the promotion of it?
- 46:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well, they I think they were going to promote one song.
- 46:39SPEAKER_09: Let's read it.
- 46:40SPEAKER_09: If you're familiar with the history of the Beatles, then you'd like to know all about uh Lennon's infamous more popular than Jesus comments.
- 46:46SPEAKER_09: Uh this controversy actually led to some adjustment of promotion in America.
- 46:51SPEAKER_09: In the UK, Eleanor Rigby was the preferred single, but because of its religious references, Capitol Records in the US chose to push Yellow Submarine instead.
- 46:59SPEAKER_09: That worked out in their favor since the song went to number two on the Billboard uh Hot 100.
- 47:04SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that was a When you got the KKK coming to your shows to protest, you screwed up royally.
- 47:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_09: I think we've talked about this before.
- 47:15SPEAKER_09: You know what he was getting at.
- 47:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:17SPEAKER_09: He wasn't saying they were actually Yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_12: I mean, he said he said it was you know, he's saying we're not we're not better than Jesus, we're not bigger than Jesus, we're just more popular than Jesus at the moment.
- 47:27SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 47:28SPEAKER_12: But of course, everybody, you know, you know, the Bible belt in the South took it.
- 47:31SPEAKER_12: Right, absolutely took it that way, you know, took it the other way, and then bah.
- 47:35SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 47:36SPEAKER_09: Uh and then number 10.
- 47:38SPEAKER_09: It was nominated for album of the year, but lost to.
- 47:42SPEAKER_09: Do you know who they lost to?
- 47:43SPEAKER_12: No idea.
- 47:44SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 47:44SPEAKER_12: No.
- 47:46SPEAKER_09: Um Frank Sinatra.
- 47:48SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 47:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:49SPEAKER_12: Interesting.
- 47:50SPEAKER_09: Uh the Grammys in '67 Ultim uh Revolver Revolver ultimately did not win album of the year.
- 47:56SPEAKER_09: It went to A Man and His Music from Frank Sinatra.
- 47:58SPEAKER_09: They did, however, win Song of the Year for Do you remember what they won?
- 48:03SPEAKER_09: No.
- 48:04SPEAKER_09: Michelle from Rubber Soul.
- 48:05SPEAKER_09: Oh, really?
- 48:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 48:07SPEAKER_09: Um, so there.
- 48:08SPEAKER_09: So you did know your stuff, but there were some things I think we've got.
- 48:12SPEAKER_09: You can always learn stuff.
- 48:13SPEAKER_09: We surprised you with.
- 48:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:15SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 48:16SPEAKER_09: Time to play another poorly explained movie.
- 48:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:20SPEAKER_09: 80s edition.
- 48:22SPEAKER_09: And as always, I've picked a few, and I'm pretty sure that we've done at least one of these.
- 48:27SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 48:28SPEAKER_09: Um, but we shall see.
- 48:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we shall see.
- 48:31SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 48:32SPEAKER_09: Uh, here is the explanation.
- 48:35SPEAKER_09: A high school girl learns a lot about seaweed.
- 48:44SPEAKER_09: And the hint is.
- 48:46SPEAKER_09: You didn't even ask for it.
- 48:47SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna give it to you.
- 48:48SPEAKER_09: Because you're looking at me like that.
- 48:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_09: The hint is she's pleasantly plump.
- 48:52SPEAKER_09: 1988.
- 48:55SPEAKER_09: You may not have seen this.
- 48:56SPEAKER_09: I think your sister probably has.
- 49:02SPEAKER_09: I have no idea.
- 49:03SPEAKER_09: Actually, I've never seen I have not seen this all the way through.
- 49:05SPEAKER_09: I couldn't get through it.
- 49:07SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 49:07SPEAKER_09: No?
- 49:08SPEAKER_09: Hairspray.
- 49:09SPEAKER_09: No, never saw it.
- 49:10SPEAKER_09: Ricky Lake is in there.
- 49:11SPEAKER_09: I think so, yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:13SPEAKER_09: Um, okay.
- 49:14SPEAKER_09: Stumped you on that one.
- 49:16SPEAKER_09: This one I know we've done before.
- 49:17SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 49:18SPEAKER_09: Uh a scientist tries to make a lady really wet.
- 49:21SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 49:22SPEAKER_12: Uh it was splash.
- 49:23SPEAKER_12: Splash.
- 49:24SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 49:24SPEAKER_09: She's a great swimmer, yes.
- 49:25SPEAKER_09: 19 uh 84.
- 49:27SPEAKER_09: Uh and I think we've done this one too.
- 49:30SPEAKER_09: Um a booger ruins things for a football team.
- 49:34SPEAKER_12: A what?
- 49:35SPEAKER_09: A booger.
- 49:38SPEAKER_12: Ruins things for a football team.
- 49:39SPEAKER_12: It's gotta be Revenge of the Nerds.
- 49:41SPEAKER_09: It is Revenge of the Nerds.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: 1984.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: Another one from 84.
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: Here's one I don't think you'll get.
- 49:47SPEAKER_09: A tiger helps a family find their lost son in New York City.
- 49:54SPEAKER_09: It's animated, that's the hint.
- 49:56SPEAKER_09: 1986.
- 49:58SPEAKER_09: Tiger?
- 49:59SPEAKER_09: Do you remember?
- 49:59SPEAKER_09: Do you watch a lot of animated movies when you were no?
- 50:02SPEAKER_09: Uh a tiger helps a family find their lost son in New York City.
- 50:06SPEAKER_09: It's animated from 1986.
- 50:10SPEAKER_12: Not a clue.
- 50:11SPEAKER_09: An American tale.
- 50:13SPEAKER_09: T A I.
- 50:14SPEAKER_12: I thought that was about a mouse.
- 50:15SPEAKER_09: I think there's a cat in it too.
- 50:17SPEAKER_12: Oh.
- 50:17SPEAKER_09: I I I I don't I've never seen the movie.
- 50:20SPEAKER_12: I've never seen it either, so.
- 50:21SPEAKER_09: Anyway, uh, there you go.
- 50:23SPEAKER_09: We stumped you on a couple of them.
- 50:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:25SPEAKER_11: I don't know movies as well as I thought.
- 50:28SPEAKER_09: Have you heard from uh Miss Judgeness yet?
- 50:30SPEAKER_09: I've heard from everybody.
- 50:31SPEAKER_09: You have?
- 50:31SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 50:31SPEAKER_09: Fantastic.
- 50:32SPEAKER_09: Are we ready for this?
- 50:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah! Let's do it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judgeness, Judgeness, Judge Ness.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: It's time to play mixtape.
- 50:49SPEAKER_09: Alrighty then.
- 50:53SPEAKER_09: Uh let's do the past.
- 50:57SPEAKER_09: What was the uh question?
- 50:59SPEAKER_09: Do you remember?
- 50:59SPEAKER_09: Oh, it was the um Country Song.
- 51:02SPEAKER_09: Country song, right?
- 51:03SPEAKER_09: If you were on a desert island and you had to listen to only one country song forever, I guess.
- 51:11SPEAKER_09: Forever.
- 51:12SPEAKER_09: Until you got rescued, I guess.
- 51:14SPEAKER_09: What would it be?
- 51:15SPEAKER_09: So let's hear from Miss Judge this.
- 51:18SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, that was a fun week of mixed tape picks.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: Um, I had fun listening to them.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: I am with Cousin Larry.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: I don't listen to a lot of country songs.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and I almost went with Cousin Larry's pick, Toes in the Sand.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Um, but then I heard Doug's Pick, and that final chorus was hilarious, and I could not go with that one.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: Um being the best, was it Western country song uh ever written had to go with that one.
- 51:47SPEAKER_09: I was trying to think of what it was.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: I apologize for my dogs.
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: They're a little rowdy today.
- 51:51SPEAKER_10: That's what I was wondering.
- 51:52SPEAKER_10: That's what I thought was going on in the background.
- 51:53SPEAKER_10: David Alan Co, right?
- 51:55SPEAKER_09: David Alco.
- 51:55SPEAKER_09: You never even call me by my name.
- 51:57SPEAKER_09: Correct the mando.
- 51:58SPEAKER_09: Correct the mando.
- 51:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:00SPEAKER_09: Congratulations, Doug.
- 52:01SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 52:01SPEAKER_12: I got that.
- 52:02SPEAKER_12: I think I thought.
- 52:02SPEAKER_09: I did get a message from uh cousin Larry who said that I haven't heard The Bird by Jerry Reed in years.
- 52:09SPEAKER_09: Good pick.
- 52:11SPEAKER_09: Um, okay, so for the present, um, best song for a school cancelled snow day of sledding.
- 52:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:23SPEAKER_09: So uh school is canceled, you're going sledding.
- 52:26SPEAKER_09: What is the best song for that?
- 52:30SPEAKER_12: We're going back to bed.
- 52:32SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 52:34SPEAKER_09: I'm not going sledding, I'm gonna go sleep.
- 52:36SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna go sleep, then I'm gonna go sledding.
- 52:38SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 52:38SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 52:39SPEAKER_12: So what uh what did Cousin Larry say?
- 52:42SPEAKER_12: Cousin Larry.
- 52:44SPEAKER_12: Cousin Larry, cousin Larry.
- 52:47SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 52:48SPEAKER_12: Mixtape.
- 52:49SPEAKER_12: This one was kind of weird because nothing really jumped out at me for some reason.
- 52:53SPEAKER_12: Me either.
- 52:54SPEAKER_12: I thought of Alice Cooper's school's out, but that's a summer song.
- 52:57SPEAKER_12: A few songs from the soundtrack of the movie Snow Day might work, but the movie was more about the kids trying to stop Snowplowman.
- 53:06SPEAKER_12: Frosty of the Snowman came to mind as Frosty is the fasty fastest belly whopper in the world.
- 53:12SPEAKER_12: But I guess I'll go with Metallica's Fuel.
- 53:16SPEAKER_12: As it would be a song to get me fired up to go sledding, an honorable mention to the Chili Peppers.
- 53:22SPEAKER_12: Give me fuel! No hey ho.
- 54:08SPEAKER_09: That's pretty abrupt.
- 54:10SPEAKER_09: Well, I I was trying to get the F word out of there.
- 54:12SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 54:13SPEAKER_09: But then I hit the wrong button to bring it back.
- 54:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's been a long time since I was on the radio.
- 54:22SPEAKER_09: All right, what is your choice?
- 54:25SPEAKER_12: I can't think of who did it, but it's at uh What a beautiful morning.
- 54:31SPEAKER_12: Oh, the Rascals.
- 54:32SPEAKER_12: Yes, thank you.
- 54:33SPEAKER_12: Uh I was trying to rack my brain to remember who did that, but I could not think of who it was.
- 54:38SPEAKER_09: Star City Syndicate did that.
- 54:39SPEAKER_09: That's who that who did it.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Did we?
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we did that.
- 54:41SPEAKER_09: I remember doing that.
- 54:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we've done this one.
- 54:43SPEAKER_09: Uh Crispy.
- 54:44SPEAKER_09: That's Pete's That's DeJorno.
- 54:46SPEAKER_09: That's not Pete.
- 54:47SPEAKER_09: That's not wood delivery.
- 54:48SPEAKER_09: It's De Jorno.
- 54:49SPEAKER_09: It looks good.
- 54:51SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 54:53SPEAKER_09: Enough commercials.
- 54:54SPEAKER_12: Enough commercials.
- 54:55SPEAKER_12: Okay, here we go.
- 54:56SPEAKER_09: Yes, this is the song.
- 54:57SPEAKER_09: We've done this.
- 54:59SPEAKER_09: Have we?
- 54:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 55:00SPEAKER_12: I don't remember doing it.
- 55:01SPEAKER_09: We've never played it out, I don't think.
- 55:03SPEAKER_09: Maybe we have once or twice.
- 55:05SPEAKER_12: Was it one of the COVID songs?
- 55:07SPEAKER_09: I don't think so.
- 55:09SPEAKER_12: Maybe?
- 55:16SPEAKER_09: Good choice.
- 55:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we you don't remember trying to sing this part right here?
- 55:28SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 55:35SPEAKER_12: I have a feeling this was a COVID song.
- 55:37SPEAKER_12: Remember when we were in we had to practice in that garage?
- 55:41SPEAKER_12: We did a lot of songs that we've never done again in that garage.
- 55:46SPEAKER_12: I think this was one of them.
- 55:49SPEAKER_09: We've played this out.
- 55:50SPEAKER_12: Have we?
- 55:51SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 55:51SPEAKER_12: I don't remember.
- 55:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we have.
- 55:55SPEAKER_09: We didn't play it out very often.
- 55:57SPEAKER_09: I think we played it out maybe once or twice.
- 55:58SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 55:59SPEAKER_09: But we definitely played it out.
- 56:00SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 56:01SPEAKER_09: I believe you.
- 56:02SPEAKER_09: Anyway, good choice.
- 56:04SPEAKER_09: I like it.
- 56:05SPEAKER_09: Um so for me, I, you know, cousin Larry said uh that uh uh he he was going to pick a summer song.
- 56:15SPEAKER_09: Uh but he couldn't.
- 56:16SPEAKER_09: I I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 56:18SPEAKER_09: So I'm going sledding.
- 56:21SPEAKER_09: This is what's in my head.
- 56:25SPEAKER_09: Safaris wipeout.
- 57:02SPEAKER_09: Alright, so first pick was fueled by Metallica.
- 57:09SPEAKER_09: Rascals, a beautiful morning was Doug's pick.
- 57:12SPEAKER_09: And mine is this one wipe out from the Safari.
- 57:16SPEAKER_09: Good luck, Miss Judge Nist.
- 57:18SPEAKER_09: Enjoy! She's gonna pick Metallica because it's Metallica.
- 57:21SPEAKER_09: It's Metallica.
- 57:22SPEAKER_09: That's and that's okay.
- 57:24SPEAKER_09: It's a gimme! That's okay.
- 57:26SPEAKER_09: Uh okay, so that's it for uh mixtape.
- 57:30SPEAKER_09: Oh no, it's not.
- 57:31SPEAKER_09: No, it's not.
- 57:31SPEAKER_09: We gotta do it.
- 57:32SPEAKER_10: We gotta do the future!
- 57:34SPEAKER_09: We gotta do the future.
- 57:35SPEAKER_09: We gotta do the future.
- 57:35SPEAKER_12: I always We're gonna send you back to the future.
- 57:39SPEAKER_12: Oh, that's great, Doc.
- 57:41SPEAKER_12: I can hang out here for a while.
- 57:45SPEAKER_12: You just dropped all the time.
- 57:47SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I know.
- 57:48SPEAKER_12: I felt them.
- 57:49SPEAKER_12: I don't wanna want to look down.
- 57:51SPEAKER_12: That's okay, yeah.
- 57:51SPEAKER_09: They're all it's like 52 pick up.
- 57:54SPEAKER_09: Just pick it, pick from what you have.
- 57:56SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 57:56SPEAKER_09: We'll do that later.
- 57:57SPEAKER_12: Well, I'll pick it from the pile down here.
- 57:59SPEAKER_12: Maybe there's one in there that I haven't done.
- 58:03SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 58:04SPEAKER_12: You guys go over there.
- 58:05SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 58:35SPEAKER_12: Story time.
- 58:38SPEAKER_08: Story time.
- 58:39SPEAKER_12: Well, you have to you have to tell a story about why you chose what you chose.
- 58:43SPEAKER_12: Each player must play an instrument from there.
- 58:48SPEAKER_12: This is when you actually play the game.
- 58:56SPEAKER_12: Given the time of year.
- 58:57SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 58:58SPEAKER_12: The song that plays as your firstborn leaves the nest to head off to college.
- 59:02SPEAKER_09: Oh my.
- 59:03SPEAKER_09: Which is like in three weeks for me.
- 59:06SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 59:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 59:07SPEAKER_09: Not my firstborn, but Right.
- 59:09SPEAKER_09: Uh so the song that plays in your head as your firstborn leaves the nest and heads for college.
- 59:16SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 59:18SPEAKER_12: That's the That's the future.
- 59:20SPEAKER_12: You're gonna give me all the motion.
- 59:22SPEAKER_12: No, no! I'm chosen! Let's go back to the other one!
- 59:26SPEAKER_09: No, that's a good one.
- 59:27SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna pong a plate 52 pack of polar on quick.
- 59:29SPEAKER_11: I'm putting the putting the mic down.
- 59:32SPEAKER_09: Alright, you pick those up.
- 59:33SPEAKER_09: We're gonna take a break.
- 59:34SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna pick these up.
- 59:34SPEAKER_11: As you're as you're don't try to help me!
- 59:37SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 59:39SPEAKER_10: Don't worry.
- 59:41SPEAKER_11: You stay there!
- 59:42SPEAKER_10: Wait, are you sure?
- 59:43SPEAKER_11: You stay over there.
- 59:44SPEAKER_11: I got it.
- 59:45SPEAKER_11: Are you sure you don't need any help?
- 59:46SPEAKER_11: I've got this.
- 59:47SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 59:48SPEAKER_11: I'm not gonna pull a muscle or anything.
- 59:51SPEAKER_11: You know why?
- 59:52SPEAKER_11: Because they're not heavy.
- 59:55SPEAKER_10: You're doing a good job.

- 1:01:32SPEAKER_09: So last week we brought up this album from Sir Paul McCartney.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_09: We've been talking about Paul McCartney a lot tonight.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we have.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_09: Um this was uh from 2000 mean save.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_09: 2018.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_09: Uh Egypt Station.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_09: And uh look before you.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_09: We played a bunch of the tunes from it, and this is.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_09: So are we keeping it?
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_09: Are we are we smashing it or are we trashing it, getting rid of it?
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_09: Uh so let's just go around.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_09: We haven't heard from Jeff.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_09: So um Where are you at, carriani?
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_09: You know what?
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_09: I'm just gonna not that I'm gonna get his answer.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_09: But I am gonna You never know though.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_09: I am gonna message him and and uh ask where you been.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_09: Maybe maybe you went out and found a woman.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_09: Uh maybe.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_09: Why am I laughing at that?
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_06: Um Steal.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_09: Let's just see if he replies.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_09: Because it's not like him.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_09: We haven't heard from him since July 20th.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_09: I know, that's weird.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_12: Um He really, he really took our time off as literal.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_12: I guess so.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_12: He knows we're back, right?
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_09: I I'm assuming.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_09: Anyway.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_09: Uh, so we're gonna go around uh Bounce and Bob, not Painter Bob, or Bob the Painter, but Bounce and Bob.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_09: Uh Bounce and Bob says smash.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_09: Which means he would like to keep it.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_09: Um hold on, I have to do the sound effect.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_09: It's just because I want to use the sound effect as much as possible.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_09: Because it's fun.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_09: Because it's fun.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_09: So Bouncing Bob says smash.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_12: Uh you know, all the Gen Xers that are listening to this podcast are like, oh.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_12: Yeah, right.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_12: The more I know.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_09: The more you know.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_09: Uh Smash.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_09: While driving around town with my wife Sue in the car with me, Egypt Station was playing on the Apple Music app.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_09: And she thought that this was Sir Paul's best.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_09: She even wrote the name of the album down and said she was going to get the CD.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_09: I don't know why this is up for our review.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_09: It is a great CD and is much better than others we have talked about here.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_09: Shots fired.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_09: You're right.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_09: Jeez, Bob.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_10: My word.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_10: He is passionate.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_10: I don't know why we're talking about this.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_10: Why are you guys talking about this?
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_10: You guys are so freaking stupid up there.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_09: Breathing in all that Canadian smoke.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_09: Uh, did he answer did Cousin Larry answer you?
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_09: Because he just answered me.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_09: So did he answer you?
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's it's a very short one.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_09: What did he say?
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_12: I love Sir Paul.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_12: Smash.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_09: That's what he said to me, too.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_09: Okay, so that's two votes for Smash.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_09: Um do we have um misjudgments?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_12: Let me let me let me bring her up.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_09: Let me bring her up.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_09: Did she do a audio?
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_09: Negative.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_09: No, okay, good.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_12: He sounded really on the fence about keeping the album.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_12: I heard more unsure unsureness towards the negative versus unssuredness towards the positive.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_12: The instrumental is good, but keeping an album based on just the artist without getting into the music enough to enjoy it, it's not worth keeping.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_12: It's a trash for me.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_09: Um so uh Miss Judgeness votes trash.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_09: Correct.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_09: And I I like her response, and I'll get into that here in a second.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_09: So what what is your vote?
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_12: I also say trash.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_09: You also say trash, and you're a huge MAGA fan of the bigger.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_12: I'm I'm a huge fan of Sir Paul, but not that album.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_12: Well, I mean, you remember when you played it last week?
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_12: I was like, who the heck is this?
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you didn't know.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_12: I had no clue.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_12: So I mean, that that's that's a bad sign.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_09: And and the reason that m I think she just nailed it on the head.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_09: My my purpose here is to thin the herd.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_09: Uh I I I'm I'm trying to uh save space.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_09: I'm trying to diminish my Gigantic collection of CDs.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_09: And I think she said it.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_09: She said, keeping keeping music from an artist just because it's the artist that you like.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_09: And you don't get into the album, uh, doesn't make any sense.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_09: And and so for for that reason, I'm voting.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_09: Try! Whoa! Out of that field.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_09: So so that means that's three for trash, two for smash.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_09: Two for smash.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_09: Unless we hear from Kerriani, which I don't think we're going to tonight.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_09: Uh that means that Egypt Station from Sir Paul McCartney is going to KMH Music.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_09: And will be available for a very, very paltry price.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_09: I think it's three bucks.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's like three bucks.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_12: Two bucks.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_12: You can get it for very, very, very little money.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_09: Uh alright, so that means I need to pick a new one.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_09: Um you have a new one.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_09: I I I I I don't.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna stand up and do it.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_09: Oh really?
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_12: You literally don't have one.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_12: Well, yeah, I see that.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_09: But I'm I'm going to pick what's on top of the pile.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_09: I think I already might know my vote on this.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_09: Yogi Doki.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_09: Um I don't know that uh I don't know that they will know who this is.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_09: I think this is like everybody else.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_09: I think this might be Is it common graphics?
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_09: What the frick are these guys?
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_09: I think this might be um the first um unanimous decision of Smasher Trash.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_09: And and here's why.
