- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land Always was, always

- 0:11Speaker 2: Hey chicks, welcome to episode two of The Financial Glower,
- 0:14Speaker 2: the twenty twenty five Reset, the mini series where we're
- 0:17Speaker 2: going to reset and glow up our finances in twenty
- 0:21Speaker 2: twenty five. In episode two, we are diving into three
- 0:24Speaker 2: ways to boost.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Your income in twenty twenty five.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yep, we're talking about getting that pay rise that you deserve,
- 0:31Speaker 2: starting your investment journey, and easy ways to earn extra
- 0:34Speaker 2: cashola with a side hustle. If you missed episode one
- 0:38Speaker 2: on how to understand your income versus expenses, definitely go
- 0:41Speaker 2: back and listen to that.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it was very motivational, it was.
- 0:45Speaker 3: It was a good place to start.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Okay, shall we get straight into the EPP. Let's do
- 0:49Speaker 1: it all right. Our first tip to earning more money
- 0:53Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five is getting a pay rise. So
- 0:57Speaker 1: let's start with step one, getting your pay rise.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Girls.
- 1:01Speaker 1: This is your year to own your worth and ask
- 1:04Speaker 1: for what you deserve.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I get it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: The thought of negotiating a pay rise in steals fear
- 1:11Speaker 1: and anxiety into everyone.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It's not fun.
- 1:15Speaker 1: It's not fun, but it shouldn't be terrifying, even though
- 1:19Speaker 1: it feels like it. I promised you you got this though,
- 1:23Speaker 1: here is some helpful ways that you can make it happen.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Because this might surprise some people, but the best way
- 1:30Speaker 1: to get a pay rise in twenty twenty five is
- 1:32Speaker 1: to actually get a new job.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Get out of it.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Step number one, step your job.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Step number one to get a pay rise, quit your job.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So the most achievable way to increase your salary is
- 1:45Speaker 1: to actually change jobs. According to research by Seek, those
- 1:49Speaker 1: who changed roles had a one point six times greater
- 1:53Speaker 1: salary increase than those who stayed in the same job
- 1:56Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three. And now we'll speak for them
- 1:58Speaker 1: teach literally, so people who switch jobs saw a nine
- 2:02Speaker 1: percent average salary increase in the last job change versus
- 2:06Speaker 1: five point five percent average salary increase in the last
- 2:09Speaker 1: pay rise. So it's kind of really good timing because
- 2:14Speaker 1: the best time of year to get a new job
- 2:17Speaker 1: is the start of the year, so January February, this
- 2:20Speaker 1: is when companies are kind of looking at their budgets
- 2:23Speaker 1: for the year. They're looking at the teams and they're
- 2:25Speaker 1: seeing where they need more support or more people because
- 2:29Speaker 1: of last year. So they'll be like, Okay, what did
- 2:31Speaker 1: we feel like was working really well last year? What
- 2:33Speaker 1: teams needed a little bit more support? Okay, social media
- 2:36Speaker 1: they had a lot on last year. If we hire
- 2:39Speaker 1: someone else, you know that alleviate's out stress and we
- 2:41Speaker 1: could double the output or being bang bong and so
- 2:44Speaker 1: the exact way get exactly wording of that's what they
- 2:47Speaker 1: use in the big boardrooms, being bang boc. So having
- 2:50Speaker 1: this in the back of your mind means that even
- 2:52Speaker 1: potentially over the Christmas break or early January, you can
- 2:55Speaker 1: start working on your resume, cover letters or really figuring
- 2:59Speaker 1: out what it is that you want to do. Maybe
- 3:01Speaker 1: you want to change industries, maybe you don't want to
- 3:03Speaker 1: even work in the same thing you worked in last year.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's kind of like the best time of year to
- 3:08Speaker 1: have a complete professional rebrand.
- 3:11Speaker 4: And I love that.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And fingers crossed if so faso an encumboost.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, writing your resume and cover letter does put chills
- 3:22Speaker 1: down my spy. However, and I'm kind of a bit
- 3:26Speaker 1: bitter about this is that it's never been easier. So
- 3:30Speaker 1: the new iOS update on Apple has this new thing
- 3:34Speaker 1: called writing Tools, which you can write out your resume
- 3:38Speaker 1: and cover letter and when you highlight it, there's a
- 3:41Speaker 1: little button that says professional and it will rewrite the
- 3:46Speaker 1: whole thing with a more professional tone.
- 3:50Speaker 4: You can also go one.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Step further and use GPT, which is also incorporated into
- 3:55Speaker 1: the Apple Intelligence But in case you don't have that
- 3:57Speaker 1: update or you're not using an Apple product, you can
- 4:00Speaker 1: just use chat GPT and you can literally put the
- 4:03Speaker 1: dot points of your experience into it as well as
- 4:07Speaker 1: what that role you're applying for is looking for and
- 4:10Speaker 1: ask it to write it for you.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Well, it takes so much of that work and stress
- 4:15Speaker 2: and brain power out of it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And make sure that the cover.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Letters that you are writing are customized to the roles
- 4:21Speaker 2: that you're applying for, because you really shouldn't be using
- 4:24Speaker 2: the same cover letter and for every single job. You
- 4:27Speaker 2: should be tailoring them for the key responsibilities that are
- 4:30Speaker 2: included in that job ad and that can be a
- 4:33Speaker 2: lot of work, so using tools like this can make
- 4:35Speaker 2: that so much more manageable.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And it's still everything that you've done, It's still all
- 4:39Speaker 1: of your experience.
- 4:40Speaker 4: And achievements and everything about you.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And then the other tool that I do love is
- 4:45Speaker 1: Google's AI interview tool, so you can actually select the
- 4:49Speaker 1: industry that you are applying for or you want to
- 4:52Speaker 1: move into, and it will generate interview questions to ask
- 4:56Speaker 1: you and you can answer and practice and it gives
- 4:59Speaker 1: you like a little score at the end and.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Then you can go back and do it again.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And as someone who would always get so so nervous
- 5:06Speaker 1: for job interviews, I think this is such a great
- 5:08Speaker 1: tool to you so that you can really go in
- 5:11Speaker 1: with confidence and know your shit. Like you know when
- 5:13Speaker 1: you go into a job interview and they're like, what's
- 5:15Speaker 1: your name and you're like, I.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Don't know, Yeah, who am I? Forget it all?
- 5:18Speaker 4: Who are you?
- 5:19Speaker 1: School?
- 5:19Speaker 4: Did you go to You're like, I didn't go to school.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You're like, I have actually never even been to outside
- 5:26Speaker 1: my house.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I was raised by walls.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I was raised.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I love that it can really help you practice and
- 5:33Speaker 2: practice makes perfect and will make you more confident going
- 5:37Speaker 2: into those more stressful situations. If you want to stay
- 5:41Speaker 2: at your current role, you can use these things as
- 5:43Speaker 2: a bargaining tool to get a pay rise and go
- 5:46Speaker 2: in with the blue.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Prep Number one. Do your research.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Sites like seek or Glassdoor Australia are perfect for this.
- 5:56Speaker 2: For example, you can use seek salary filter to search
- 5:59Speaker 2: jobs by salary to compare what similar roles offer. This
- 6:03Speaker 2: could also be a good tool to see what skills, roles,
- 6:06Speaker 2: and responsibilities you may need to propose and take on
- 6:10Speaker 2: if you want to get a pay rise or a promotion.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Number two track your wins.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Make a brag list of all of the amazing things
- 6:19Speaker 2: that you've achieved at work. Did you nail a big
- 6:22Speaker 2: project or did you save the company money? Be ready
- 6:25Speaker 2: to show how you've gone above and beyond. Numbers and
- 6:28Speaker 2: specifics are really important here, So instead of saying increase sales,
- 6:33Speaker 2: say implemented x process which led to an increase of
- 6:37Speaker 2: sales by x percent between y to z.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Bonus tip.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Put this information in a presentation which you could make
- 6:45Speaker 2: for free with a tool like Canva, with examples, charts,
- 6:49Speaker 2: and key numbers to clearly communicate your wins. Number three
- 6:52Speaker 2: practice your pitch. Practice saying it out loud yes, in
- 6:57Speaker 2: front of a mirror or with a friend can feel
- 7:00Speaker 2: a little bit awkward, but asking for a pay rise
- 7:04Speaker 2: can be nerve racking and confidence is key and will
- 7:08Speaker 2: help communicate how serious you are.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Okay.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Our second tip on how you can earn more money
- 7:13Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five is investing. So let's talk about
- 7:18Speaker 1: growing your money. According to a study by nerd wallet,
- 7:22Speaker 1: forty eight percent of women have money invested in the
- 7:25Speaker 1: stock market, compared to sixty six percent of men and
- 7:29Speaker 1: a no. Investing can sound and does sound really scary
- 7:34Speaker 1: and confusing, but.
- 7:36Speaker 4: It doesn't have to be at all.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So let's break it down into three super simple steps.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Start small.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You do not need thousands to get started. Apps like
- 7:46Speaker 1: Raise or spaceship yep, they're Aussie friendly make it super
- 7:50Speaker 1: easy to begin with just a few dollars.
- 7:53Speaker 4: This is a great way to learn.
- 7:55Speaker 1: The basics of investing without the risk of losing a
- 7:57Speaker 1: lot of money. Sometimes we look at investing and there's
- 8:01Speaker 1: definitely this image of finance bros that are just like,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you know, from a billionaire family, that are like being like, yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I've got Treys and Apple streaming on all stream. Yeah literally,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and you just because you don't see yourself in that picture,
- 8:17Speaker 1: it's hard to see yourself investing. But there are so
- 8:21Speaker 1: so many simple and small ways to get started, and
- 8:25Speaker 1: it's about learning the basics, so you don't need to
- 8:28Speaker 1: be a finance expert to get into investing, and there
- 8:32Speaker 1: are so many free, amazing resources online, including a couple
- 8:36Speaker 1: of our favorite podcasts like The Get Rich Slow Club,
- 8:39Speaker 1: Equity Mates, and of course She's on the Money.
- 8:43Speaker 4: We'd also recommend.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Adding a couple books to your reading if you're serious
- 8:47Speaker 1: about starting your investing journey, So investing with She's on
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Money by Victoria Devine, Girls That Invest by simran
- 8:55Speaker 1: Core and How Do Not Work Forever? Start investing and
- 8:59Speaker 1: building a life, And last, but not least, think long
- 9:02Speaker 1: term investing isn't about getting rich overnight.
- 9:06Speaker 4: It's about building wealth over time.
- 9:08Speaker 1: It's the slow game for sure, but I think it
- 9:11Speaker 1: will pay off well in the end, So start now
- 9:15Speaker 1: and your future self will thank you seriously.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Compound interest is like magic.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I love seeing those comparisons from you know pages like
- 9:23Speaker 1: Girls that Invest and Cheese on the Money, and it
- 9:26Speaker 1: shows the difference of the amount that you would earn
- 9:29Speaker 1: when you put money in your savings over time versus
- 9:32Speaker 1: when you put money in investing and what you would
- 9:35Speaker 1: get over like forty years. And every time I see that,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm like.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Fuck, I God, I'm.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But a pro tip is to automate it so set
- 9:46Speaker 1: up a direct deposit into your investment account and it's
- 9:49Speaker 1: like paying your future self on autopilot. Love it, we love,
- 9:53Speaker 1: we love things. Your future self will thank you for
- 9:55Speaker 1: lazy girl money hack.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Our third tip to boost your finances in twenty twenty five.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Simple side hustles.
- 10:06Speaker 2: The gig economy is booming, and it has actually never
- 10:10Speaker 2: been easier to earn some extra cash on the side.
- 10:13Speaker 3: According to research by go.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Daddy, slay best names play quick, shout out.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm bad, I'm mad.
- 10:21Speaker 4: They got the name first.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I know slay.
- 10:24Speaker 2: According to research by go Daddy, sixty one percent of
- 10:27Speaker 2: oussie entrepreneurs are running their side hustle businesses alongside their
- 10:32Speaker 2: full time jobs, and the majority spent less than ten
- 10:35Speaker 2: hours a week running their side hustle venture. Yet more
- 10:39Speaker 2: than half made at least five hundred dollars a month,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and one in five made more than two five hundred
- 10:46Speaker 2: dollars per month. That's so good, yeah, which is really
- 10:49Speaker 2: cool because it shows you don't have to give up
- 10:52Speaker 2: your full time gig to pursue a side hustle, or
- 10:55Speaker 2: it doesn't have to take up a lot of extra
- 10:57Speaker 2: time if you are working full time as well. So
- 11:00Speaker 2: what side hustles can we do in twenty twenty five?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Here are three side hustles that can help you earn
- 11:04Speaker 2: some extra cash in the new year. Number one freelancing,
- 11:09Speaker 2: So if you've got skills in writing, social media, graphic design,
- 11:13Speaker 2: that's just a couple. Sites like air tasker or fiber
- 11:17Speaker 2: are amazing for finding gigs. All you have to do
- 11:21Speaker 2: is set your rates and you're off. It's so easy.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I saw a TikTok of these two girls that were
- 11:27Speaker 1: having a sleepover and they were bored, so they just
- 11:30Speaker 1: started doing errands or air Tasker. Yeah, they would have
- 11:32Speaker 1: picked up someone's like, hey, your table and got like
- 11:34Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty bucks for it. So good. I'm
- 11:37Speaker 1: so mad I didn't do this when I was like
- 11:39Speaker 1: living with my girl roommates. M was that little side
- 11:43Speaker 1: hustle get a cocktail after? Yeah?
- 11:45Speaker 2: I love that, But also I love that that it
- 11:47Speaker 2: can be so flexible, like you don't have to have
- 11:51Speaker 2: time aside every single week or day to work on
- 11:53Speaker 2: your side hustle. It can be like that you can
- 11:56Speaker 2: be like, oh, you know what, actually I do have
- 11:57Speaker 2: a free Sunday.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Let's look on air Tasker.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and just put that money away. It's such an
- 12:02Speaker 2: easy win. Number two selling products. Whether you're into making
- 12:07Speaker 2: gorgeous jewelry or you want to start a drop shipping business,
- 12:10Speaker 2: sites like Etsy or Shopify can help you turn your
- 12:13Speaker 2: creativity into.
- 12:14Speaker 1: A cash, go hard cash.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Maybe. Number three teaching or tutoring. If you have a
- 12:21Speaker 2: knack for explaining things, whether it's maths or tutoring or
- 12:25Speaker 2: yoga classes, apps like class, Bento or even Zoom make
- 12:30Speaker 2: it so easy to connect with people who want to
- 12:32Speaker 2: learn from you.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So we actually collected a bunch of top side hustles
- 12:37Speaker 1: and the average wage per hour according to Prepley, and
- 12:41Speaker 1: I was very pleasantly surprised by these wages. So a
- 12:46Speaker 1: removalist is ninety six dollars and fifteen cents, delivery driver
- 12:51Speaker 1: sixty nine dollars and seventy one cents, freelance writer forty
- 12:55Speaker 1: five dollars and sixty seven cents, handymans thirty eight dollars
- 12:58Speaker 1: and forty six cents. But in the thirties range there
- 13:02Speaker 1: was also dog walker, gardner cleaner, and then in the
- 13:06Speaker 1: mid to high twenty dollars per hour range was also
- 13:09Speaker 1: uber driver, freelance designer and blogger. So there's so many
- 13:13Speaker 1: things that you can do with that spare time, or
- 13:15Speaker 1: if you just want to kind of find something that
- 13:17Speaker 1: aligns a little bit more to your passions or creative flare.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah you're creative flair, creative flare.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But I think the main thing with this is don't
- 13:26Speaker 1: overwhelm yourself. Side hustles are supposed to be exactly what
- 13:31Speaker 1: that is, like a side dish on the side, So
- 13:34Speaker 1: make it small, make it doable. But as with all
- 13:36Speaker 1: things I feel related with money, it's just starting and
- 13:40Speaker 1: just setting it up, even if that's just setting up
- 13:42Speaker 1: your abn as a soul trader is the hardest step.
- 13:46Speaker 1: And once you get that like little bit of an
- 13:48Speaker 1: avalanche going with this stuff, it.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Takes off by itself. Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And to finish, here is the Master Money's Hip presented
- 13:55Speaker 2: by our sponsor MasterCard, that we want you to walk
- 13:58Speaker 2: away with. There are plenty of ways to make money
- 14:02Speaker 2: beyond your nine to five paycheck. As well as asking
- 14:06Speaker 2: for what you deserve and saying it with chest, you
- 14:09Speaker 2: can search for ways to make passive income, such as
- 14:11Speaker 2: investing or flexing your skills.
- 14:13Speaker 3: To make some extra money on the side. Hello, new site, Hustle.
- 14:18Speaker 2: The important thing to remember is that it's all about
- 14:20Speaker 2: progress and every extra dollar earned will.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Add up over time.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Well, there you have it, cheecks.
- 14:26Speaker 1: That's it for episode two of Today's financial glow up,
- 14:29Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five Reset. If you found this be helpful,
- 14:32Speaker 1: please share it with a friend who could also do
- 14:34Speaker 1: with some cheeky tips on how to earn some extra
- 14:37Speaker 1: cash in twenty twenty five.
